Product Specifications

Over a remarkable 30 years, Aerosmith has delivered near-perfect hybrids of rock and balladry, converting generations of listeners into devout fanatics. O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits drives chronologically through 30 of their best songs, providing a tour of the construction process. And what a process! Listen to "Mama Kin" and you might not recognize Aerosmith at all--here is a young Tyler, before finding his distinctive gritty wail, fronting a simple blues-bar band. But the phenomenal energy and synchronization that developed between Tyler and Perry starts here, and is followed up by successive wonders. "Dream On" captures plodding despair; "Last Child" bears witness to Tyler's mastery of harmony and shriek; "Back in the Saddle" explodes with swagger. Built from the low-end up, Aerosmith's heavy kick, driving bass lines, steady rhythm guitar, and blaring exclamation-point horns create a perfect foundation. And the dirty, harmonic souls of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry do what they do best--put on an over-the-top, flawless show. --Laura Etling

[+] 8.0 Great mix of old and new Aerosmith!
I like that one CD gives you all the great older sounds of Aerosmith, and the other CD contains a lot of their newer hits. I especially like that "Big 10 Inch" is on it! Killer!

[+] 10.0 Back to Back Aerosmith!
I have been lately resorting and rebuilding my musical collection. I realized i only had a few of Aerosmith's CD's. Not to mention that they are all scratched up and old. This album was a fresh re-look at this legendary band!

i always loved the band's laid back and uplifting guitar rifts. Nice change from all the heavy metal stuff (which i equally enjoy) These guys really get the total harmonics and base guitar sounds balanced with every note... no to mention the solid drumming i hear!

I especially enjoy the fact that this was a remastered copy....oh yes there is a difference in sound! i might strike you a bit of an Audiophile.

I can't listen to allot of my music on iPods and MP3 players. If you are serious about music, any remastered disc will make your sound system really shine...such as this album!

All-in-all Aerosmith fans will appreciate this album.

[+] 10.0 A great 2 CD cross-licencing sampling of Aerosmith's best!!! OH YEAH!!!
This is a great Aerosmith 2 cd hits package, cross licencing from different labels gives us a nice career spanning collection!!! Sure a few hits my be missing, but thre's still lotsa great stuff here to enjoy, and most people own the original Columbia Greatest Hits, and Gems colletions, etc anyway Still with its modest shortcomings I still recommend it!!! Oh Yeah!!! A+

[+] 8.0 This one has Dream On
This is a great CD to have for the variety of hits. Many of the "Best of" collections are missing a few songs because Aerosmith jumped around between recording companies. This one has Dream On which is missing on many of the collections.

[+] 2.0 Unremarkable drivel from a bunch of has-beens
Aerosmiths music stopped being relevant after "Draw the Line", perhaps before that... everything since has been AOR pop drool!!! What's this??? another scooped together "greatest hits" package? wow...thanks (yawn)

Like the Stones and countless Heart, Styx, BOC, etc... bands that continue to tour americas backwaters....know when to "hang it up" and bow out with grace.

It's time to stop wearing spandex and chasing teenagers when your AARP card shows up in the mail

[+] 6.0 Not A True Best Of.....3.5 stars
This is not a bad collection of songs by any means. My problem lies in what is absent. There is a WHOLE LOT missing from Aerosmith's 70's heyday. Thirty songs on here and only ten are from the 70's. I'm sorry but that is just too much post-70's material. Where is "Walking The Dog", "Train Kept a Rolling", "Chip Away The Stone", "Kings And Queens". But in all fairness the name of the collection is "Ulitmate Hits" not "Best Of". And for better or worse Aerosmiths "greatest hits" came from 1987 on. And there is really nothing wrong with that material. "Permanent Vacation" was my first real introduction to the band back in 87 when I was in high school when they made there comeback, but where I have a problem is that there are umpteen Aerosmith 80s/90s greatest hits packages already. "Big Ones" and "Young Lust" were already out there with most of this material already on it. Did we need another double CD that was primarily dedicated to this same period. To me it would have been more beneficial for a pre "Permanent Vacation" era compilation. Pretty much the only thing available as a compilation that covers this early era of the band are the old "Greatest Hits" (not enough material) single album and the box set "Pandoras Box"(a bit too much material). All in all the material is not bad but much like my complaint of the Bruce Springsteen "Greatest Hits" package, too much is dedicated to late 80s/90s material and the early era is far too ignored.

[+] 2.0 This is the Anti-Greatest Hits Collection? Who put this together?
As other reviews have mentioned, all the classic material from the band's heyday is absent.....How you could issue a collection and not have Toys in the Attic is beyond me.........What a let down...they should have called this Greatest Hits from the bands reunion...forward. Way, way too many tracks on here that had outside writers...I want to hear Aerosmith, not writers...that's what Country music is for.

Check out the Fozzy All That Remains Reloaded Cd for some great american rock and roll. All That Remains Reloaded (W/Dvd)

[+] 8.0 A Good Career Spanning Compilation
This is what a compilation should be: a collection that spans the career of an artist, and gives the listener a good idea of what they have to offer, without being centered around one of two albums (doesn't Britney have a compilation?). Fortunately for me, this one was either lost or stolen, which gave me the perfect excuse to buy their albums! This compilation, combined with a great live show I attended, really got me into Aerosmith, and for that I am grateful. I limit my compilation ratings at 4/5, because they're designed to be all killer and no filler. This one is...it's not a standard studio album to that effect, but it's the best compilation I've ever owned.

[+] 8.0 the best available
aerosmith has no shortage of greatest hits on the market but this is the best available that spans their entire career.that being said this collection does suffer from some probelms. weak cuts, alt. mixes, and only giving only 1/3 of the set to their 70's material when it deserves half. but the point is it delivers the hits and if thats what your looking for then it should supply your needs.

[+] 10.0 Dude still got it
Aerosmith , thank god that there are still bands that sing about dirty women , drink and , well , you know what I mean ! as a mature rock fan who grew up in glorius late 60s and 70s this is what it's about .
In a world of political correctness it's hard to write good old fashioned rock and roll lyrics well , you've missed the plot if that's your mindset rock music is about having a good time , aerosmith are the good time band ! This album is full of classics from there early days to the recent present and , are then a band !
So , forget about your corporate lifestyle , your investments , that new car and big house get back to were it was when you had long hair dirty jeans drank like a fish chased a few babes and , well you know what i mean ! God bless aerosmith !!
P.S. Apologies to anyone who finds this review offensive but as you know the truth hurts .

[+] 8.0 Same Old Song and Dance - Yet another Compilation but the one worth getting!
Aerosmith have released over the years nine "Greatest Hits" Compilations!!! Outside their first and best back in 1980, this one, dubbed Ultimate Hits, is perhaps the best purchase a casual fan who was not around in their 70's hey day should pick up. It covers their entire output save the 77-86 period thus representing better value and wider appeal. Die hard fans should already have the original albums.

Disc One boasts one of the best collection of hard rock/blues recorded in the 70's. Each song is a classic representing the band on top of their game. Hungry, raw, rocking, sleazy and fun. There are a few tracks that should be included from this period but you can't fit them all in can you?
"Walk This Way" "Sweet Emotion" and "Dream On" all the big ones are here. "Season's Of Wither" is one underrated song, a highlight really.

The bands commercial comeback and commercial peak weaves into disc one and dominates disc 2 with well known material from their albums "Permanant Vacation" through to "Just Push Play", the latter providing the minor hit "Jaded" and a cool remix of the title track of that album. A couple of bonus tracks don't add much but "Come Together" and "Toys In The Attic" are good additions.

#1 smash hit, "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" the most well known of their latter, albeit uninspiring period. These days Aerosmith still have it in concert, but besides a decent middle of the road rock album half a decade ago, are in a flat spot as a recording entity and the release of another Hits compilation really highlights their lost muse for creating music.

Let's hope Aerosmith are back with one more classic album if they can steer clear of the gimmicks and focus on delivering like they once did.

[+] 10.0 Truly The Ultimate
Aerosmith is a band that has done more then stand the test of time, they have showed bands half their age how to really rock!
This collection 'O Yeah' shows them from the 70s beginnings all the way through the 90s and beyond!

I would recommend this collection to any Aerosmith fan and really any fan of music in general, but I would also recommend getting the other 'greatest hits' package 'Young Lust' because it features a lot of songs from their Geffen years that aren't included on this release...O Yeah focuses on the Columbia years (it has some Geffen years songs but not enough) and the combination of this along with 'Young Lust' would give anyone a perfect overview of this group of music legends
I would still tell people who can afford it to go out and buy the entire catalog because it's really worth it but having 2 CDs with all the great hits is very convenient to have in your car

there are some new re-mixes of songs from their more recent albums which makes this worth having for those (like me) that already have the whole catalog, but really the two new songs alone are worth buying this,Girls Of Summer and Lay It Down are both great songs..but Girls Of Summer is actually one of the best Aerosmith songs ever recorded
I don't know how they do it but this band gets better all the time! (with the one exception of 'honking on bobo' but I hope they learned from that disaster)...if anyone would walk up to you and ask who Aerosmith is,this and Young Lust are the CDS you should play for them!

The Upside - an almost perfect overview of a brilliant career! This covers the early years, the Geffen years, and the columbia years

The Downside - Missing some important Geffen years songs, they completely ignore 'Done With Mirrors' on this release, and 'Night In The Ruts' and 'Rock In A Hard Place'

The Bottom Line - If someone asks you who Aerosmith is,play this and Young Lust..these are great packages and well worth the price...donutman says so!!!

I remember Aerosmith from when I was younger my parents were 70's and 80's rockers and that is what I remember growing up. I love this CD pack (two CDs) it has their greatest hits and it is good. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see what Aerosmith is like. For those of you who already love them I'd go with buying their other CDs.

[+] 6.0 Flawed In Its Scope
Admittedly, the 70s were Aerosmith's raunchy heyday. From the runway tale of "Mama Kin" to the slow and dirty funk of "Back in the Saddle," the band just exhuded an unrepentant sleazyness that made them oh-so-great. This era is represented by about 10 tracks.

And then, the compilation takes us to 1987. After the rift between Perry and Tyler has been fixed, the band re-enters the public conciousness after the collaboration with Run DMC '86. The band goes on to create alright tunes for the rest of the decade. Alas, most of these tracks are subject to the overwrought productions values of the time. Well, at least the songs still have echoes of the old Aerosmith.

Disc 2, however, sees the band's sound utterly smothered. For some unknown reason, they opt to barrage us with the schlockiest ballads this side of Manillow. The compilation leads us to believe that the 1990s were entirely dedicated to the creation of such dross. Only in the new millenium does the band hit its stride again; "Jaded," "Just Push Play" & "Girls of Summer" see some bits of the old attitude re-emerge, albeit subdued and filtered through the banal production values of '00s.

The perspective offered on these discs is terrible. The first CD should have focused on the band's 70s peak, while the second should've accomodated the inferior 80s/90s/00s efforts. If anything, it should've also given us stuff from 77-86. Do you expect us to believe that the band was inert during that decade? Please.

Overall, the casual fan who wants the biggest hits should get this. However, he/she should be warned that this collection places to much emphasis on the "cleaner" era rather than on the raunchier 1970s.

[+] 4.0 Aerosmith.......Overrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aerosmith were one of the worst most annoying bands of all time. They only made 3 decent songs in Same old song and Dance, Seasons of wither, and Janies got a gun. Rest of the songs just stink explosively. Avoid most albums from this hugely overrated band, steven tyler screams, he can't sing at all??? this is music for drug addicts.

[+] 8.0 A decent Aerosmith collection.
Aerosmith are one of the great rocking bands besides Metallica.
This is a fine collection of hits from this good band that has
legends including Same Old Song And Dance, the sweet and lovely
Seasons Of Wither(which kind of reminds me of Foreigner's Waiting
for a Girl Like You), Sweet Emotion, Love In An Elevator, and Janie's Got a Gun. I would like for you to buy this album along with albums from Metallica, Dire Straits, Foreigner, GNR, Nirvana, and Green Day but stay far away from the crappy bands like the Beatles and Lynyrd Skynyrd who suck.

[+] 8.0 Ultimate hits O, Yeah minus the worst song ever recorded.
Fronted by the charismatic Steven Tyler, 'Aerosmith' formed in 1972 and by 1973 they had their first album out under the same title as the band. Tons of hits, albums, drug problems and arguments - the band survived somehow up until 1997 when they released their newest studio album, 'Nine Lives'. It wasn't until 2001 until Aerosmith returned, and not just with a new studio album, 'Just Push Play', but also celebrated their reappearance with a new hits album - 'Oh Yeah!: Ultimate Aerosmith Hits' in 2002.

This particular compilation album of hits was released with 4 different variation covers for collectors to get their hands on, and not only that - 'Oh Yeah!' featured 2 brand new songs -the beach party styled 'Girls Of Summer' and ballad 'Lay It Down'. The English version also included a few extra bonus tracks, one of them being the 'Theme From Spiderman' cartoon which had previously never been released on any album before.

The CD's design and inlay is exceptional, a montage of lead vocalist Steven Tyler, Joe Perry (lead guitars), Tom Hamilton (bass), Joey Kramer (drummer) and Brad Whitford (guitars) graces the front centre, while in each of the 4 corners one of Aerosmith's logos from the past/present is placed. Inside in booklet is information of where and when the songs were originally recorded with some nice band shots.

In any event, the CD looks great, and sounds even better, specially if you are an Aerosmith fan!

The 2 CDs work at tackling Aerosmith's career in order. Disc 1 begins with tracks from 1973 - 1989, and disc 2 continues from 1989 - 2002.

DISC ONE:
MAMA KIN:
Originally from the album: Aerosmith - 1973
'Mama Kin' is a song about trying to keep in touch with loved ones, despite the fact you may be off and busy with life. The song features brass, along side a very 70's sounding guitar riff, which sounds even better when played live in the days of present. It's a song that frequents between mid-tempo and a faster pace, and once you get the choruses in your head, you may have hassle escaping it. In my opinion, this opens the whole compilation off perfectly. You should also note Steven's undeveloped singing voice too!

DREAM ON:
Originally from the album: Aerosmith - 1973
This ballad was written by Steven at age 17, and eventually made it's way on to Aerosmith's debut album. The first album was overlooked, but this song was one that made it noticed, also this was the only song on the debut album that featured Tyler using his real voice, and not one he had put on. This piano driven Ballad simply tells you to dream on, and dream until your dreams come true. Tyler's screams of 'Dream on!' towards the end are fantastic, and are accompanied by the rest of the band's fabulous instrument playing. It is a track Aerosmith often play live, and often very welcomed by the audience. This is a nice second track for the album.

SAME OLD SONG AND DANCE:
Originally from the album: Get Your Wings - 1974
Same Old Song And Dance is a hard rock song, and perfect for the start of the album. The guitars and bass beat along at a steady pace, but the build up to the chorus and the chorus the music becomes higher as Tyler yells "the same old story, same old song and dance!" The song also stays true to Aerosmith's blues style as it also includes saxophones and a trombone. I think the guitar solo on this track is exceptional.

SEASONS OF WITHER:
Originally from the album: Get Your Wings - 1974
The ballad, Seasons of wither is even liked by some Aerosmith fans that don't like ballads. Seasons of Wither is a haunting, cold sounding ballad and said to be "Get Your Wings' version of 'Dream on" from the previous album. Steven Tyler plays the acoustic guitar on this track. Towards the end Brad and Joe's electric guitars really kick in and enhance the energy of the song. This song is more haunting than "Dream On".

WALK THIS WAY:
Originally from the album: Toys In The Attic - 1975
Starting off with some bass, and then Perry's guitar. Tyler does a great job at singing this song. I think one of the most famous funky guitar noises takes place in this song, which sounds near the start of the song. Most people that are not Aerosmith fans know of this song, probably due to the version created with RUN DMC. I prefer this version better, because it's the original version. Another highlight.

BIG TEN INCH RECORD:
Originally from the album: Toys In The Attic - 1975
A short song, 2:16 in duration. Starts off with a kind of clumsy noise, and then gets funky. I actually like this song, it is quite funny and makes me smile when I hear it .I really enjoy the line: "Record of the band that plays the blues, Well the band that plays the blues!" It's fairly short and simple.

SWEET EMOTION:
Originally from the album: Toys In The Attic - 1975
Starts off with some strange noises and then some bass slams on along side the lyrics: "Sweet Emotion". Then Tyler continues singing the rest of the song, briefly taking a pause between each line, in which a funky guitar sounds. There are so many good lines in this song, and all flows nicely. "I pulled in to town in a police car!". Towards the end of the song there's no singing, but we are treated to all the instruments pounding away together, and the guitar solo is exceptional.

LAST CHILD:
Originally from the album: Rocks - 1976
This song tells of a person that is now living the city life, being a punk in the street, yet dreaming of being back home where they originally came from - living on a little farm. When I first heard this I didn't care much for it, but as I heard it more and more, I have come to like more and more. The guitar solo has got to be my favorite part to this track, where the drums slam and the guitar goes wild.

BACK IN THE SADDLE:
Originally from the album: Rocks - 1976
This song provides a great opener at live concerts, when it's actually used as one. This lusty cowboy song has a killer guitar riff during the chorus accompanied by screams of "I'm baaaaaaaaack!!" from Steven. The track comes complete with galloping horse hoof sound effects towards the end and even a whip sounding noise. The band tried to use a bullwhip in the studio, but it didn't work; they just cut themselves up. Also to add a western feel to the song, Steven had tambourines taped to his boots and he stomped on a wooden board.

DRAW THE LINE:
Originally from the album: Draw The Line - 1977
This fast paced hard rock song is based around a simple yet effective guitar riff. I think if this song was a little harder it may have been more effective. Tyler really gives it some hard screaming towards the end on the lines: "Check mate don't be late take another pull, that's right impossible to be yourself, your the boss the toss the dice take another slice!" It's, despite the fact not up to the par of the track Toys In The Attic from the album of the same name, a satisfying track.

DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY:
Originally from the album: Permanent vacation - 1987
This track is one of Aerosmith's more known tracks. Its comical lyrics speak of a man that picks up women to find she is actually a transvestite hooker! One of the lines that subtly hints to it being a man is this: "Then she whipped out her gun and tried to blow me away!", if that isn't enough to convince you that is what song is about, then look at the chorus: Dude Looks Like A Lady.

Aerosmith sure are good at filing their songs with smut and disguising it as something innocent. The track opens up with fluctuating guitars and soon becomes a fast tempo rocking track. Tyler's screams of "Dude Look Like A Lady!" as well as "Do me, do me, do, me, do me!" are fantastic and I still wonder how he manages to pull such screams off. This track can be heard during the montage scene on "Mrs Doubtfire".

ANGEL:
Originally from the album: Permanent vacation - 1987
This power ballad slows down the album, as well as changes the tone, especially considering the speed of the last track. This power ballad is a nice song and my favorite bit has to be the guitar work at the start. Steven Tyler likes the song but thinks it is over played; meanwhile the bass player Tom Hamilton hates the track. If it comes on I don't skip it however, has it is a nicely done track, the guitar solo is great. The album just suffers due to the passage of time.

RAG DOLL:
Originally from the album: Permanent vacation - 1987
This song starts off with heavy drums beating away, shortly the guitars start up and the bass and guitar build up to the singing, which starts on the chorus of: "Rag Doll, living in a movie, rag doll, daddy's little cutie, so fine, they'll never see you leaving by the back door"

This sleazy song speaks of New Orleans and also of prostitutes. This song has always been a favorite of mine, it's just a good all around song. The song combines rock with its close counterpart Jazz. Trumpets also sound in this track and make it sound a touch sleazy as Tyler sings the suggestive lyrics.

JANIE'S GOT A GUN:
Originally from the album: PUMP - 1989
"Janie's Got A Gun" opens with a spooky beginning, and has to be one of the highlights of the album. Starts quite mellow along side gun shot sounds, and then gets more upbeat, along an orchestral kind of backing, as well as with a piano. Full of so many different instruments and it all fits perfect - it's great!

This track includes a great jangling guitar solo lead by Joe Perry which excellently portrays the urgency of Janie as she tries to escape arrest from the police after shooting her dad dead, as he has been sexually abusing her all her life (as the music video portrays). "She had to take him down easy! And put a bullet in his brain! She said cause nobody believes me, the man is such a sleaze!".

The music sounds like that of Hitchcock's Psycho shower scene for a brief period during the song. A great rock song!

LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR
Originally from the album: PUMP - 1989
This is probably one of the more famous Aerosmith songs. This song is great from the word go! Lyrics go from one to the next with no problem at all. This is a great song to listen to if you are feeling low. A great guitar solo included in this track which starts around 1:27 until about 2:03 "Lovin' it up when I'm going down!"

WHAT IT TAKES
Originally from the album: PUMP - 1989
This is an emotional rock/country power ballad, and isn't as over produced as "Angel" from the previous album "Permanent Vacation". "Angel" can sound very cheesy, but "What It Takes" never does.

The choruses are fantastic, as Tyler yells in confusion "tell me what it takes to let you go?! Tell me how the pain's supposed to go!"

The guitar solo is simple, yet complex to pull of in actual fact, and the way the song ends with the repetitive calls of "let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go...", makes you wonder if in fact the character on this song did ever get over his lost love.

Disc one conclusion:
Disc one is good, very good! There is a slight unbalance of the number of songs from the earlier albums, with only "Draw The Line" appearing from the album of the same title. Also, the late 70s and early 80s appear to have been skipped, although it is hardly surprising as Aerosmith were in trouble during these eras (not to say that there aren't good songs from then though).

However, the abrupt jump from mid 70s to mid 80s is apparent and disrupts the flow of things. However, casual listeners will be pleased, and they can easily see how the raunchy raw instruments develop along side Steven's voice, in to the somewhat, glam rock era of the Permanent Vacation tracks, with a prime example being "Angel".

DISC 2:
THE OTHER SIDE:
Originally from the album: Permanent vacation - 1987
The year of 1989 continues here with "The Other Side", which is a jazzy rock and roll song. Tom does wonders on the bass line, and the guitar solo's flicking vibe is fabulous. Not to mention that Tyler is in top form with his vocals as he shouts "I'm looking for another kind of love - the kind that likes to leap without a shove!".

LIVIN' ON THE EDGE:
Originally from the album: Get A Grip- 1993
This track "Livin' On the Edge", is an amazingly well-put together, although quite lengthy, song about racism which was inspired by the L.A. riots. The track has appeared on MTV various times, along with its interesting music video. Although it's not a big favorite of mine I still like it, it's definitely a great song, and the way the song begins quiet, builds up only to literally leave us "on the edge" as the music suddenly stops, and we get nothing but an eerie wind effect. The music then blasts back on and eventually brings the track to a close.

CRYIN':
Originally from the album: Get A Grip- 1993
This is the first of the 3 "Alicia Silverstone trilogy" tracks to appear on the album. Why Alicia Silverstone? Well, as mentioned before, she appeared on the 3 music videos. This track was only rehearsed 2 days before it was actually recorded - and it proves at how good Aerosmith must be to have been able to produce the track to the standard it is at. It is a slower ballad, and Joe plays a very 1960's sounding riff. Also present in the song is Steven's harmonica solo, which I think is one of the best bits on the track. This track was very successful, although a majority of hardcore Aerosmith fans deemed this track "too commercial". Which is probably true, however, it is still a good track.

AMAZING:
Originally from the album: Get A Grip- 1993
This is my favorite of the 3 ballads on the album and my favorite Aerosmith song ever. This song was played during a video montage for the home town hero and my favorite hockey player ever Boston's own Ray Bourque when he scored the winning goal at the 1996 NHL Allstar game in Boston. This track includes Richie Supa (the co writer, he also wrote "Chip Away the Stone") plays the piano for this track and Don Henley provides various backing vocals.

The first half of the song sets a very serious, thought provoking atmosphere as Tyler sings about how lonely he felt as he was on drugs. The song features some great screams from Tyler. The track then, for the second half, becomes an electric guitar and bass driven track with minimal lyrics. The music video shows the band playing the instruments like crazy and smashing their guitars up and jumping about all over the place, and I always imagine that now as I hear this second half. On the 4:33 marker, the guitars create a sound that sounds as if reflects Steven's drop in to darkness from the drug usage, however, on 4:38 the guitars then lift up and saw high, as the rest of the music follows. That I feel, is one of the best parts.

DEUCES ARE WILD:
Originally from the album: Big Ones - 1994
The song begins with a soft jangling guitar and keyboard effects as well as Tyler doing some soft yowling noises. The guitar lifts slightly and so does the bass. It is a nice steady song, with a great solid chorus which anyone can sing alone too. This also is one of the high points of the album. Some nice "pan pipe" sounding effects in the background. It always cheers me up.

CRAZY:
Originally from the album: Get A Grip- 1993
This song is often referred to as the "'sister song"' of "Cryin". Joe Perry didn't want to actually include this track on the album as he feared it would be too sappy, but they went ahead with it anyway.

A lot of non Aerosmith fans , which only really know the more commercial material, hear this and claim it to be one of the best Aerosmith songs, as they do with the Armageddon theme, "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing". It isn't the case though. This slower track is full off harmonica and mandolin, both which are played exceptionally, and the track creates a very emotional atmosphere. However, there are many more Aerosmith tracks that top this one.

FALLING IN LOVE (IS HARD ON THE KNEES)
Originally from the album: Nine Lives- 1997
This mid tempo track is full of double entendre, and Joe Perry is the star of the song with his exceptional and catchy twangy guitar solo. A very over - looked song, even though it was a hit.

PINK (SOUTH BEACH REMIX)
Originally from the album: Nine Lives- 1997
Starting off with drums and an harmonica and then in to a steady pop styled song. No hard rock here, however the catchy lyrics and nice beat makes up for that. "Pink it was love at first sight, Pink when I turn out the light, Pink it's like red but not quite, And I think everything is going to be all right, No matter what we do tonight"

However, this is a remix version, which I am beginning to think is even better than the original. This has added effects, and sounds even lighter than the original.

I DON'T WANNA MISS A THING:
Armageddon Soundtrack: 1998
The well-known and loved by many ballad written by Diane Warren. Steven Tyler was allegedly not going to do this song as he didn't want Aerosmith's reputation to be hindered, however, as his daughter Liv begged him (Liv was in the movie that this song was for) he decided to do it.

The song is orchestrated, and tells the romantic tale of two lovers laying together, one asleep, and one awake, thinking of how they don't want to go to sleep, as they don't want to miss a single thing that their partner does. The song erupts at the end at which point Steven Tyler does some great roaring shouts.

JADED:
Originally from the album: Just Push Play- 2001
Starting off with some nice drum beats, closely followed by jangling guitars. This is a great track and has a solid chorus as well as easy to remember lyrics. Apart from the chorus, another part of the song I personally like is the way Steven delivers the line: "Your thinkin's so complicated, I've had it all up to here!" as the music builds up, closely leading to a wild jangling guitar solo.

JUST PUSH PLAY (RADIO REMIX):
Originally from the album: Just Push Play- 2001
This is very experimental of Aerosmith, but don't let it put you off. It is still a very catchy tune. Perry's guitar playing is kind of drowned out by the other effects taking place - which is sad.

However, on this remix version Steven's explicit yells of profanity are replaced with a variety of similarities, such a "O-lay!" and "all the way!".

Sadly though, the flicking guitar outro on this track has been chopped off, which is in fact one of my favorite sections from the original version.

WALK THIS WAY (WITH RUN D.M.C)
The song that resurrected Aerosmith from their grave in the mid 80s. It is also the song that most people know Aerosmith for. I have heard this one so much it has begin to bore me. This is a good version as I like both Aerosmith and Run DMC but I prefer the original a little better.

GIRLS OF SUMMER: (previously unreleased)
This intro of this song begins with the main intro of the song rewinding backwards, it gradually fades on to a jangly, rather beach party like rock tune. It gets flack from quite a lot of Aerosmith fans, as being way too commercial and just plane bad.

However, I don't totally agree with this. It has a great bass line, and Steven's vocals are in top form as he exclaims "Some girls are all about it, some girls love to make you cry, some girls can't live without it, some give twenty reasons why".

LAY IT DOWN: (reviously unreleased)
Aerosmith enjoy creating bizarre intros lately, and there is no exception here, as the song begins with the noise of a what sounds like jet plane flying over, which fades to a rather dark sounding bassline and drum beat. A piano also features in this mid-tempo ballad, as Steven sings tenderly at the beginning of the song, although later on he does start to yell:

"I'll hold you so tight! Whoa, before the morning light! It's gonna be alright!"

There is a really cool section in this song, at which point the tune changes and the bass line really shines. Also, during the choruses, there is a faint yet effective water droplet noise that runs throughout.

BONUS TRACK - COME TOGETHER
This cover song is harder than the original version and sounds much harder live than this studio version. It's a nice track and Aerosmith do it justice I feel. Especially the choruses, at which point Steven's calls of "Come together, right now!", is accompanied by the great bass and guitar work which literally comes together to create a great song.

BONUS TRACK - THEME FROM SPIDERMAN
Here it is the worst song ever recorded! Aerosmith should be ashamed of themselves for recording a version of this song that is total garbage. (The Ramones did the best version of this song ever go and check it out now instead of listening to this piece of garbage) This theme was used for a Spiderman cartoon in the 90s although I don`t know why. It has a rather industrial punk feel to it, as trash can lids are used at drums and the bass pulsates. This is not a new Spiderman song but the worst cover of the original 60's theme song.

BONUS TRACK: TOYS IN THE ATTIC
Originally from the album: Toys In The Attic - 1975
The album starts off with the song in which the album takes it's name from. A great opening song in my opinion and one of the highlights of the album. The fast paced guitar at the start is effective and the song has a nice beat through out. One of the best lines being: Leaving the things that are real behind" which is accompanied by great guitar playing. Tyler's pauses while singing the lyrics really make this song great. The song is actually about once drugs have been used, you forget many things, and it's almost like they have been left to collect dust in the attic.

This song was added as a bonus to "Oh yeah!" after complaints
that it really should have been included in the first place.

Disc 2 could have been much more I think, however, you do have to take in to account that this is a hits album, and not just a compilation of bizarre and unappreciated tracks. The "Nine Lives" era seems too short, where as "Get A Grip's" era has at least 5 songs.

However, when it comes to representing the band's progression, this is the album, mainly due to the fact that no other compilation out to date has 70s/80s/90s/ and present day Aerosmith on it all together.

The newer fans will enjoy the second disc a lot more than the first half of the first disc more than likely, as the likes of "Jaded" will be much more know than let's say, "Last Child".

NOTE: This CD package says it will not work on PC/Mac computers. It must be played specifically on audio CD orientated products. That is not the case as it works just fine on my computer using Windows XP Pro and Media Player 10.

I've been a fan of Aerosmith for about 20 years. This collection is a great way to be introduced to the band, and also a great collection for the hard-core fan.

[+] 4.0 WHAT'S THE POINT?
When BIG ONES came out, it was cool. B/c it was basically "Aerosmith's Greatest Hits" except it took place w/o the substance abuse and at a time when technology in the music biz had improved greatly. When AEROSMITH'S GREATEST HITS came out, it was cool, too, b/c it showed the wannabes Aerosmith's most commercially-viable music (personally I wouldave gone with PANDORA'S BOX instead if I were alive then and/or if it were out at that time, because I like songs such as "Seasons of Wither", "You See Me Cryin'", etc.; a lot more than "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion"; I also get a kick out of live stuff). And for awhile, as far as I remember, after BIG ONES came out, Aerosmith pretty much fell downhill artistically, although commercially they rose to heights unseen by Aerosmith, but even the commercial success didn't last long, 'cause they took 5 years making a totally pathetic album (even "Jaded" wasn't that good of a song, although the video was cool). I mean, I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith, just like I'm not a huge fan of Tom Petty, John Melloncamp, or Bog Seger, but even the worst of Aerosmith can be enjoyable once in awhile...something that can't be said of their 'contemporaries'. So given that, what exactly does "Ultimate" mean regarding "Aerosmith Hits" and what value do these "Ultimate" Aerosmith songs have by themselves w/o any of their must-have buddies? There's nothing specific missing from this album, nothing that I can say is an "Ultimate Aerosmith Hit", but considering this is mostly ground already covered on other Aerosmith compilations, this CD set could have taken the opportunity to do kind of a more extended version of what GEMS was trying to accomplish and also a BETTER version of what GEMS simply was: good songs that weren't played on the radio...if this CD was trying to do anything other than that, it's either the wrong time, since they've only done two lame albums and a couple soundtrack songs since BIG ONES and, like I said, their career is too complicated to warrant a mere 2 disc career spanning collection. But if they made it a 3 or 4 disc collection, it'd be kind of a re-hash of PANDORA'S BOX...but then again, until Aerosmith gets better albums and more of them, that probably wouldn't be such a bad idea compared to this package. I wouldn't give this one star though, 'cause, as with any CD released by Aerosmith (with the exception of, sorry to say this, JUST PUSH PLAY), it's good music if you can't afford anything else and you happen to stumble upon this at the Salvation Army thrift store...

How i have enjoyed this band through the years. i recall listening to "toys in the attic" ( a birthday gift ; loved "dream on", wanted the album - ) and i don't recall having any thoughts, at that time, of aerosmith becoming one of metals all time power house greats. but - they did it ! what a portfolio, too - and most of it is on this hits album. just fantastic.

[+] 2.0 An awful collection that defies comprehension.
It's 2006, and the cultural gnat Aerosmith has yet to be swatted. Year after year, decade after decade, they relentlessly innundate our airwaves with hours of hair-brained nonsense. And now, after all of the abuse, they have the nerve to puke out yet another "Greatest Hits" album. Will someone please stop the madness!!!

Fearing that FM corporate radio will continue to play these bums in perpetuity until the end of time, we need a grass-roots effort to rescue the world from this scourge. If we don't start now, we all might end up listening to "Janie's Got A Gun" with blue hair and enlarged prostates. How's that for a pessimistic view of the future?

Hey Aerosmith, doesn't a "permanent vacation" sound pretty good right now? After all, the universe itself has grown tired of your worn-out comedy act. Thank you all. -DW

This is a pretty good album. Some of my favorite tracks from Aerosmith are, Same Old Song & Dance, Seasons Of Wither, Sweet
Emotion, Janie's Got A Gun, and Love In An Elevator. You got to

This is the best Aerosmith hits collection to get. Much better than 'Greatest Hits', 'Big Ones', or 'Gold/Young Lust'. There are a few songs missing like Kings and Queens and No Surprise though. But overall it is worth getting.

HEY AEROSMITH, IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA TO RELEASE SOME KIND OF BOX SET WITH ALL OF YOUR UNRELEASED SONGS, SIMILAR TO WHAT BON JOVI DID. I KNOW THERES PROBABLY LOTS OF EXTRA SONGS LYING AROUND.

[+] 10.0 My Favorite Aerosmith Compilation
O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits, released in July 2002, is an Aerosmith compilation.

Aerosmith is, with out a doubt, "America's Greatest Rock "N" Roll Band." There are many other great classic rock bands, but they were from different countries. Pink Floyd (England), Led Zeppelin (England), Queen (England), The Beatles (England), The Rolling Stones (England), and Rush (Canada). Do we see a pattern here? There are many legendary classic rock bands from England. So Aerosmith isn't the best ever, just in America they are.

Kicking this album off is 'Mama Kin' and 'Dream On', both from Aerosmith's debut album, "Aerosmith." I'm always happy to see 'Mama Kin' on a compilation, because it's an excellent song. 'Dream On' is also here, but that's no surprise, since it's one of Aerosmith's top five songs of all time.

From "Get Your Wings" come the songs 'Same Old Song And Dance' and 'Seasons Of Wither'. This is the full version of 'Same Old Song And Dance' and not the heavily edited copy found on "Aerosmith's Greatest Hits." (Note: I'm going to bash Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, because it has major editing problems.) 'Seasons Of Wither' is a nice song, but not the second best song on "Get Your Wings." 'Train Kept A Rollin' holds that title, but it's not here. Why? Who knows? It's an excellent cover but it's not found on "O, Yeah!".

'Walk This Way', 'Big Ten Inch Record', and 'Sweet Emotion' are the songs from Aerosmith's best album, "Toys In The Attic". This is the full, four-and-a-minute version of 'Sweet Emotion' and not the edited version found on Aerosmith's Greatest Hits. Two excellent songs missing from "Toys In The Attic" are 'No More No More' and 'Toys In The Attic'. It's nice to see 'Big Ten Inch Record' appear on an Aerosmith compilation, but 'Toys In The Attic' would have been a better choice.

From the album "Rocks" come the songs 'Last Child' and 'Back In The Saddle'. 'Back In The Saddle' is one of Aerosmith's best songs, along with 'Last Child'. But where's 'Rats In The Cellar', one of Aerosmith's most underrated gems?

'Draw The Line' is the only song on "O, Yeah!" from the album "Draw The Line". 'Draw The Line' has an excellent riff, and it's a very catchy song. But where in the world is 'Kings and Queens'. It's just one more missing gem, not making the cut for "O, Yeah!".

Now the compilation skips three albums, "Night In The Ruts", "Rock In A Hard Place", and "Done With Mirrors". These definitely are not Aerosmith's best albums, but they still had a few good songs. Songs like 'Remember (Walking In The Sand)', 'Jailbait', and 'Let The Music Do The Talking'. It's not a huge disappointment, but they should have at least put 'Remember (Walking In The Sand)' on "O, Yeah!".

"Permanent Vacation" kicked off Aerosmith return to the spotlight, with songs like 'Dude (Looks Like A Lady)', 'Angel', and 'Rag Doll'. All three of these songs deserve to be here. 'Permanent Vacation' would have been nice, but it's no big deal. 'Angel' was Aerosmith's first major ballad and they would have many more ballads in the albums to come.

Next we come to one of my personal favorites, "Pump". It's just one of those albums where every song is excellent. Making the cut for "O, Yeah!" are 'Janie's Got A Gun', 'Love In An Elevator', 'What It Takes', and 'The Other Side'. Other excellent songs on Pump that didn't make it were 'Young Lust', 'F.I.N.E.', and 'Monkey On My Back'. No huge disappoint about those songs not making the cut.

Now on to the so-called ballad album, "Get A Grip." The album's not all ballads, there are still rock songs, but they are not as well known as the ballads. The songs from "Get A Grip" include 'Livin' On The Edge', 'Cryin', 'Amazing', and 'Crazy'. All but 'Livin' On The Edge' are ballads. The non-ballad songs that didn't make O, Yeah! were 'Eat The Rich', 'Fever', and 'Walk On Down'.

From the album "The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience" comes the song 'Deuces Are Wild'.

'Falling In Love' and 'Pink' from "Nine Lives" made their way onto O, Yeah. 'Falling In Love' was a good choice, but I'd rather have 'Hole In My Soul' over 'Pink'.

Next, from the "Armageddon Soundtrack" is Aerosmith's only Billboard Hot 100 number one hit, 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing'. This is easily one of my favorite Aerosmith songs of all time, and it deserves to be here with other Aerosmith classics.

From their 2001 album "Just Push Play", come two songs, 'Jaded' and 'Just Push Play'. "Just Push Play" is one of their worst albums ever, and these two songs are no exceptions.

To close the album off, you have two bonus tracks and a rap version of 'Walk This Way'. That's terrible. Rap and Aerosmith just don't go together. It was a bad idea to recorded the song in the first place, let alone place it on an Aerosmith greatest hits compilation. The bonus tracks are ordinary songs, and nothing to get excited over.

In the end, you get an Aerosmith compilation loaded with 30 unedited songs, for a sale price of under 20 bucks. That's not a bad deal considering it's the best Aerosmith compilation out there. I'll end my review with a list of missing songs and a list of excellent Aerosmith albums to start a collection with.

Missing Songs:
1. Train Kept a Rollin'
2. Toys In The Attic
3. No More No More
4. Rats In The Cellar
5. Kings And Queens
6. Remember (Walking In The Sand)
7. Permanent Vacation
8. Monkey On My Back
9. Eat The Rich
10. Fever
11. Hole In My Soul

The Six Albums Every Aerosmith Fan Must Have:
1. Get Your Wings
2. Toys In The Attic
3. Rocks
4. Pump
5. Get A Grip
6. A Little South Of Sanity (Two-disc live album)

This is it...Aerosmith's Oh Yeah Greatest Hits, it's not all that great. It has some really irritating, simple, and boring songs, why do I have to always hear Walk this way or Sweet emotion on the radio???? They get old. Aerosmith are really overrated, plus they've only made like 3 really good songs. The 2 from Get Your Wings, and Janies Got a Gun. Other than that, this is junk.......and Aerosmith are for babies. [+] 6.0 Ultimate? I think not
Everytime a great band comes out with a "hits", or "best of" compilations. There is always going to be that fan that says there is missing tracks.

I really need to know who put this 2 disc together. I have heard it countless interview with Steven Tyler that he thinks the best song Aerosmith has done was "Kings and Queens" and that is nowhere to be found on this set. I'm not going to complain about all the newer crap that is on here, because that is what sells and if that is what is most important to these guys now that they are into their 60's, they will have to live with that.

With this set, you get some good aerosmith songs, but calling this ultimate is sad

[+] 6.0 another greatest hits?
Sure this is definitely a great collection of Aerosmith songs. If you are a new fan to Aerosmith then its definitely worth picking up. However if you already have a Greatest Hits CD from them then don't bother. Or maybe I'm the only one who doesn't want 18 CD's with 'Dream On' on them. It is a great song.. but come on guys get with the program. You have more Greatest Hits CD's out than most bands have albums overall. Only gave a rating of 3 because they have so many Greatest Hits albums out.

[+] 10.0 Aerosmith-A compilation with a view
This collection of 70's, 80's, and 90's greatest hits has everything one would want in preserving life as we knew it in the past. Listening to the band belt out songs gone-but not forgotten-takes us through the decades of multi-colored wear, big hair and the years of the bands. This compilation is so great, I would buy another copy just for backup.

I love being reminded of the movie hits like "Dude looks like a lady" and "I don't want to miss a thing" which has you swaying and jammin' where ever you are. Don't miss this compilation. Aerosmith definitely has a smash with this one.

[+] 2.0 Help Me! Aerosmith Sucks
This is a really dissapointing greatest hits album, plus Aerosmith never made a good song. They are just overrated, I heard them on every radio station (Overplayed) and they suck so hard. Awful songs like Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Crying, & What It Takes reek. I hate this band so much, hate em hate em hate em.
Aerosmith really sucks. They should have just quit after the release of their second album, Get Your Wings which in my opinion is their only good album. Every band is dissapointing, maybe except for Dire Straits. This is so worse. Don't buy this, buy any album from Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler insted.

These are the worst and most overplayed bands of all time.
AC/DC, AEROSMITH, & QUEEN.

[+] 8.0 An "Amazing" collection.
Ok, I admit, I used to not really like Aerosmith. But that was back in the early 90's when the "Get A Grip" album had them way over-exposed. Now that that time has passed, and I've heard more of them since, I realize that they're pretty much the American Stones, and not just because Mick and Steven both have big lips. I think this is a great 30 track collection. I know alot of fanatics feel numerous songs are missing, but for the casual fan, the hits are all present, and this is after all a "Hits" package. With this we get the early classics like "Sweet Emotion", "Dream On", and "Back In The Saddle Again". We get the comeback hits like "Angel", "Love In An Elevator", and "Livin' On The Edge". Plus the newer stuff like "Pink", "Girls Of Summer", and the mega-hit "Don't Want To Miss A Thing". The two discs are basically hit after hit after hit. This isn't the only "Best Of" collection they have out, but you'd be "Crazy" to get another one.

[+] 2.0 Aerosmith SUCKS!
Aerosmith were always bad. The singer don't know his name just screams. This isn't music, just noise. They are also overrated,
and overplayed. This is one rock band that every rock fan must
AVOID! Go get THE BEATLES,or even better DIRE STRAITS.

[+] 10.0 Don't Hate it...BUY IT!
Yeah yeah, how many times have you heard that this is the umpteenth Greatest Hits album from Aerosmith? Well just ignore that stuff, and listen to me: THIS is the album to get if you want to get a whole lotta music from the band. I just discovered it about a month ago and it's got me spinning around! I'm honest, this is the definitive Aerosmith collection...possibly. It's got a good dose of their early stuff, then it skips to their late 80s tracks (thanks to countless other ''Greatest Hits'' and ''Live'' albums), but it's all right.
Let me start my review: It bursts open with Mama Kin and Aerosmith's gritty but talented blues-based hard rock. And it bursts even further with power ballads such as ''Dream On'', and ''Seasons of Wither'', (thought you might also be able to call it an epic), and other hard-rocking classics such as ''Same Old Song and Dance'', ''Back in the Saddle'', and ''Dude (Looks Like a Lady)''. And it's not even that that makes the album worthwhile (I haven't even gotten to the second CD). ''Love in an Elevator'' is a wonderful rocker and actually sounds a bit like a Def Leppard anthem. Cool!
Now we cross over to the other side, where Aerosmith is living on the edge (two of the opening tracks). I don't listen to this disc as much as I do the first one, but it's worth every, single penny!!! We got some great rockers (Livin' On The Edge) and some beautiful ballads in the same class as Kiss's ''Beth'' and Guns n' Roses ''Sweet Child o' Mine'', in this case, it would be songs such as ''Deuces Are Wild'' and ''I Don't Want To Miss A Thing''. Great stuff! We also got some of the most recent tracks, including, ''Jaded'', ''Just Push Play'', ''Girls of Summer'', and ''Lay it Down''. All are good, but the two ending tracks sound kind of similar. But they're still great!
Oh yeah, and they team up with Run-D.M.C. to do a cover of ''Walk This Way'', (The original version is one of the greatest tracks on the entire collection!
Conclusion: One of the greatest ways to get into Aerosmith, but if you just got a big paycheck, you might wanna get the first, several albums. But hey, don't let me tell you what to do. This is the only Aerosmith album I have, so you don't have to listen to me. But if you want to get into Aerosmith and only want ONE compilation that's TOTALLY worth your money, it might be a good idea to check this out. Thanks for the time. :-)
