[+] 2.0 Not A Reliable Machine
I have had two iPod Classics and have had trouble with both. The first iPod broke due because water got into the machine. I don't know how it got water inside of it. I was walking in the rain to class and it must have gotten soaked through my jean pockets. I would understand this happening if the glass was cracked and there was some way for water to get in but there were no visible cracks or damage on the machine. My second and last iPod (or Apple product for that matter) broke when the it's drive was damaged. The day before, the iPod was working. After I was finished using it, I put it away and left it alone. When I went to use it the next day, it took a couple of minutes for the songs to start playing. It would also change songs without me pressing any of the buttons (the hold was also even on). I took it to an Apple store and they said that the driver was broken and would need to be replaced. I decided that it wasn't worth the time or the money (even if it was a cheap repair) to fix a product that was going to crap out for no apparent reason. This wasn't the only issue I've had with that iPod either. Prior to the driver breaking, the rotating dial often wouldn't work. I would rotate the dial to select another artist and nothing would happen. It would eventually start working again (sometimes requiring a reset) but it was always a pain to deal with. When it worked, it was good MP3 player. However, the trouble I've had with them don't make them worth the price. Additionally, I'm not a fan of iTunes. It would be a good program but the music sounds awful when I play it on my computer (I generally use Windows Media Player if I'm listening to music on my computer). It will be nice to get a reliable MP3 player that doesn't require me to run use iTunes as well.

In the end, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on an iPod.

[+] 10.0 Great Product
This product was as advertised. It was a great value for the money. It functions just like a brand new one and I would not hesitate to buy from this company again.
Why pay for a new one when the reconditioned one from ipodzen is just as good if not better.

I can't believe I went so long without one of these. It links quickly to my laptop and updates my music and podcasts extremely fast. The only thing that I have noticed is that the scroll seems to pause occasionally when I've played a game. Shouldn't be playing games anyway : )

[+] 10.0 Awesome for music and movies (on plane, hotel room, anywhere)
I do a lot of traveling and had been watching movies on a laptop when there was enough room. Finally decided to buy a portable devices with my extra per diem and researched them all. For price and hard drive space, the iPod classic is the best.

I watch movies on the plane, while working out, and purchased the accessory to plug it into a TV which makes the iPod into a DVR that can store over 7 days worth of movies.

Getting your DVDs or videos into the iPod format required the most amount of research and learning. There were several free and affordable programs out there, but I started getting more involved in audio and video and for the PC user I recommend [...] you can buy all their software which can do video conversion in almost any format, audio conversion, audio mixing & editing, video mixing and editing and it's a great mix of everything.

[+] 10.0 all your music in one place!
I've had this product for over 2 years now. I don't remember exactly when I bought it. It has been working
fine ever since I purchased it. Sure it will crash every now and then. Just google your problems and your
problems will be solved. I have not used up all the space either. I want to get the 160gb model. As
my music collection is growing.

I don't know how I would function in life with out this product. I use it everyday. I immediately
hook it up into my car stereo, use it at work, use it while walking, etc. This is the perfect mp3 player to get if you're
a music junkie like me. If your collection continues to grow then you'll want an iPod with more capacity. I have
not touched a single CD since I bought the iPod. I'll rip the CD to my computer and never touch it. I love my mp3's. For one
they never skip, they never wear out. They are reliable. I love my iPod and so glad I had bought one all those years ago. Again
I don't remember when exactly I bought it.

[+] 2.0 Be warned! Crashes every few minutes
I just got a new 160GB iPod Classic, and I'd ray every one to two songs it crashes. Sometimes it reboots back to the apple screen, you wait about a minute, then it starts back up, and other time it freezes and you have to force a reboot. Sometimes it freezes so a snippet of a song repeats causing a loud buzzing.

I'm upgrading from an old 20GB hard drive iPod. That one I've had for years and it's a tank. I've actually dropped it on pavement on two occasions, and despite a dent in the case it plays perfectly. Based on the many bad reviews, and Apple's 10% restocking fee, I'm shopping for an MP3 player made by another company now, though it pains me. I've always had a great experience with apple products, except for the airport express (3 died in a row within a month), and now this ipod. You'd think Apple would own up to the problem and fix it.

[+] 10.0 I can't imagine buying any other mp3 device
I bought this 160 GB ipod two years ago, and this thing is just a tank. It never fails and I use it every single day of my life. I seriously wouldn't understand anyone ever buying an mp3 device that isn't called "iPod". I measure a purchase in its ability to innovate, and to last for a very long time under heavy usage. I have hauled this thing to work, school, clubs, restaurants, and friends houses while dropping it, sitting on it, and jogging with it down the street. It still starts every day without a hitch, and mocks me and my inadvertent attempts to slow its never-ending production and execution. Seriously, why would you consider anything else? If you have a huge music collection as I do, nothing else substitutes for this 160 GB model. Mp3 perfection.

[+] 8.0 A great iPod, despite its flaws, and despite the distinction of being "the worst selling iPod ever."
NOTICE: This review is for the OLD 2007 160GB iPod Classic, NOT the NEW 2009 160GB iPod Classic!

I admittedly was not going to purchase the 2007 160GB iPod Classic when I first saw it; my reaction was along the lines of "Apple will just release a 200GB+ model next year," so I decided to wait for a model I believed would be released in 2008; I was wrong. When Apple released their 120GB iPod Classic, I ordered it right away, but fearing that my music collection would grow faster than the space on my iPod, I picked up the 2007 160GB iPod Classic on clearance roughly two weeks after purchasing the 120GB model. (I've since purchased the new 2009 160GB Model, which is my favorite iPod to date.)

First, it's worth noting that this iPod carries the status of the "worst selling iPod ever," at least the 160GB Model does. However, the capacity of this iPod is simply unmatched. The 160GB model was two years ahead of its time capacity-wise, and if it weren't for all of the bugs that these iPods had before the firmware update, they'd easily be on par with this year's 160GB model.

In spite of all of its flaws, the 160GB iPod Classic from 2007 really is a nice iPod. Up until this year, if you wanted an iPod that was larger than 120GB, this was the only model available to you without performing unauthorized modifications to the device. What's more, the fact that this iPod doubles as an external hard drive is a major plus in my book, because it allows me to carry fewer devices on me.

As another reviewer noted, there is a firmware update that fixes many of the problems with this iPod; however, that fact that it needs a firmware update at all, and that problems were so rampant on the 160GB model make this device seem very poorly designed, and very un-Apple like, which is probably why they dropped it in the first place. This brings me to the iPod's caveats, and there are plenty of them.

First, Cover Flow is outright slow. The simple solution would be to not use Cover Flow, and to browse your iPod using another method. The second caveat is the fact that on many of these iPods, the hard drive would continue to spin even after the device was turned "off," effectively draining the battery and reducing the life of the hard drive. My solution was just to keep this constantly "docked" to my computer, which effectively kept it from running off of the battery. While the firmware update has fixed this problem on most 160GB iPod Classics from 2007, every so often I run into someone whose still wrangling with battery issues. Another problem is the semi-unresponsive Clickwheel, which was also fixed in the firmware update, although compared to the 120GB model from 2008 and the new 160GB model released this September, there's still a noticeable lag in the Clickwheel, albeit far less noticeable than before the firmware update. The last real caveat though, the one that irks me the most and caused me to purchase the 120GB model from 2008, is the lack of "Genius" functionality on this iPod. I realize that "Genius" didn't exist when this iPod was released, but I was a bit disappointed that Apple didn't issue a firmware update to add Genius support to this iPod, and to further improve the responsiveness of the Clickwheel. A short list of pros and cons can be found below:

Pros: Largest iPod Capacity-wise (sharing this honor with the new model that just came out,) longest battery life of any iPod, (the new 160GB model has a slightly shorter battery life because it uses a slightly smaller battery,) doubles as an external hard drive.

Cons: Bugs are common and may or may not be fixed via a firmware update, more expensive than newer iPods, no "Genius" feature or firmware update for said feature, and the dual-platter hard drive (160GB model) has more moving parts than the single-platter models and thus, twice as much of a chance of breaking on you.

The verdict: If 36 hours of music or 6 hours of video at a time are enough for you, go with the new 2009 160GB iPod Classic. It's less expensive than the 2007 model, more reliable, and more feature-rich overall, not to mention the fact that it has "Genius" support and is slightly smaller because it's a single-platter model. If you absolutely must have 40 hours of music or 7 hours of video on your iPod, go with the 160GB model from 2007, but be aware of the problems that you may run into, and seriously ask yourself if that battery life is worth spending an additional $350.95. Unless you spend most of your life on transcontinental flights, the new 160GB model that just came out is far superior to this iPod in every way imaginable. All in all, I give this device four out of five stars, because even with the problems that it had, up until this month, it was the only iPod that could hold many people's entire music collections, and it still has the longest battery life of any iPod, which is an honor that cancels out the "honor" of being the "worst selling iPod ever." Again, unless you need that extra battery capacity or collect iPods, go with the new 160GB model over this one and save yourself some cash.

[+] 10.0 iPod set me free
I bought this model as a gift for my wife, who quickly filled up her Nano and needed additional space for her burgeoning music collection. We are happy to report this has given us no problems and holds a cavernous amount of material, it's only half full and she has hundreds of discs already imported. Some complain about the slow response time, but this includes a tiny optical drive which performs flawlessly but with a slight "lag" compared to the flash compact memories of the smaller editions. It never seemed an issue to us, and for the massive space was a great trade off in our opinion. We did get a protective case to prevent scratches and fingerprints which are easy to see on the beautiful black case. Still performing like a champion, I highly recommend the 160GB iPod. I hope to inherit this one when she upgrades to an even fancier one. Battery life is fine, it still lasts all day, and syncs to iTunes (we use a Mac at home) with ease.

[+] 8.0 Not sure really...
I've heard these are good but I'm not really sure, because I never received this item. But, I did get a refund. The reason I never received it, was because I ordered it whilst on holiday in Florida, expecting it to be deivered to the sub-division I was staying on, Watersong Davenport. But, after a week I enquired at Davenport Post Office, and was told that USPS did not deliver to Watersong. Something to do with the property developer not giving permission. I had no option but to report the item undelivered. The item was returned to sender, and Amazon refunded me. On the bright side due to the dollar/pound rate fall I made 10 quid!!

[+] 6.0 Enjoy for three years and then......
throw it away because the battery is going to die and the hassle of getting it replaced is just not worth it. I've had my 80 GB classic for three years now and sure enough the battery will not hold a charge any longer. I've been attempting to get the battery replaced but am not having any luck. Every time I think I'm just about to pull it off Apple raises one more hoop for me to jump through. I live about 150 miles from the nearest Apple store that will fix my iPod but they won't work with me. I offered to drop it off for repair if they would mail it back to me but they said they will not ship. I offered to pay for the shipping but they refused to make the effort to send it to me. Instead they referred me to the Apple web site for assistance. I spoke with an Apple representative in customer support and she explained that when I purchased my iPod I had the option of purchasing the Apple support plan which would have covered the unit for any repairs within a two year period after purchase. Since I did not have any trouble with the unit until the third year the cost of the support plan would have been a waste of money. Here it comes..."We're sorry you've had trouble but if you'll go to our web site and log into customer support you'll be able to arrange for the necessary repairs". More hoops and no good outcome. The customer support section for their web site requires you to select a support "package". It's just a battery. Why can't they make the process just a little easier to handle? Oh yeah, they want you to throw away the old and buy the new. So much for recycling.

[+] 2.0 $150 for this???? You've got to be kidding. Get a Zune!!
I bought this last year believing the hype. People are always talking about how great the iPod is, so I figured why not try get one so i can have tunes in my car.

This thing was nothing but trouble after i bought it.

My first complaint is iTunes which I know I'm not alone when I say iTunes is a huge resource hog and will bog down your computer, so don't plan on doing anything else besides using iTunes when you run it(My operating system is Windows XP Pro SP2 with almost 2GB ram). After about 30 minutes I finally figured out how to add music already on my PC. Apple sure didn't want it to be easy did they. I'm guessing they did it this way because if you can't figure it out they assume you'll buy it from iTunes. I could go on and on about iTunes, but I have more complaints.

Has anyone had as much trouble as I did with the touch scroll feature? At first I thought this was a really cool feature, and I liked it. After about a week though, the problems ensued. Why does the scroll have to be so sensitive? If I move my thumb just the slightest milimeter on the music track I want to listen to, it goes to the song after or before(depending on whichever way I accidentally moved my thumb). Might I say how much I really hated this feature in my car because I always ended up having to use the arrow key buttons to get to the right song. I think I have arthritis in my thumb from all the scrolling. OK moving on.

The hold button on the top of the iPod-BAD IDEA. At first I had no problems with the hold button, but after a few weeks the button would be set in the off position and still the iPod would stay on hold. I ended up looking on Google to find a fix for this, but nothing I tried worked for me. Why couldn't they have made the hold feature like a phone where you push a combination of keys for it to work?(ex. press * then OK) I have a 30gb Zune and the hold button was designed with an actual clicking mechanism on the top, trust me when i say its 100x better than the iPod's. People have said on many forums once they were able to stop the hold button from staying on they actually removed the hold button...(no comment)

All in all the iPod is far from perfect, but the only thing I will give it credit for is its battery life Then again I've only owned it a little over 7 months so knock on wood. I'd highly recommend the 30GB Zune over the iPod because it has an FM tuner, wireless, a bigger screen, plus the interface is a lot easier to use. Did I mention the Zune is a lot cheaper? Sorry to sound so biased towards the Zune, but I've had both and I know where my bread is buttered.

[+] 8.0 I don't see what's wrong with this thing...
I guess because it's my first and I have never had another one. I have had some of the problems other people have complained about (sluggish cover art browsing was one of them I believe, mainly if the ipod has been sitting for a while or playing music constantly for about an hour), but it holds a ton of videos and music (I have over a weeks worth of music and over 120 gigabytes of videos loaded on this thing and it's about full now) as well as photos from your hard drive. If this thing lasts for a while and doesn't crash or anything, I really see no point in buying a new one until Apple comes up with a revolutionary new ipod with wi-fi (instead of just the smaller Touch) and turn it into a great phone with a hi-def camera with the same size hard drive as this one (160 gb or larger). A radio would be cool too if they could add that, but as I said I am not buying one until they do that stuff. Too bad the ipod has been discontinued for an ipod with a smaller hard drive.

The product was awesome. People are still a bit scared of refurb's but you do not need to be. 70% of my electronics are refurb's and everything works great. I do at least try to buy my refurb's from the original manufacturer but that doesn't always happen. This ipod was awesome though as any brand new one!!!!!

[+] 10.0 DO NOT PAY $500 FOR THIS!!
Ok so I will start by saying this is a wonderful item. I have had my 160gb Ipod for about a year now and couldn't be happier. However, I only paid $350 for mine BRAND NEW at BestBuy....this OUTRAGEOUS price on Amazon is a joke to think anyone would even consider paying $500. I highly recommend this product but, for the love of god, go shop around elsewhere. I saw some 160gb Ipods on other sites a few months ago for a FRACTION of this price.....KEEP LOOKING!

[+] 2.0 Flash memory works better than the Classic's hard drive
I got my 80GB iPod Classic a little less than a year ago. Around early April, my computer became unable to recognize the iPod (my computer is an Apple). I took it to the Apple store and they ran it through several tests before finally determining that it had a failed hard drive. They gave me a replacement.

A little over week ago (late June), I plugged the replacement iPod into my computer (it had worked fine since I got it except for having to reformat it once when it went haywire because I interrupted its syncing process). The iPod's hard drive started making clicking noises and iTunes claimed that the iPod was corrupted and must be restored to factory settings. I followed its instructions. After I got all my media put back on, I unplugged my iPod. It got stuck on the 'OK to disconnect' screen, so I rebooted it and got it stuck on the apple screen, making clicking noises, until the battery ran out.

Keep in mind that I was never hard on either iPod. I never dropped them and rarely bumped them. Mainly I listen to music while I do homework or read.

At this point I was totally fed up. An iPod is expensive. It should be able to last several years, not just a few months. So I took it back to the Apple store, hoping I could trade it in for at least an iPod Nano (actually, I had my sights set on an iTouch, which now cost less than what I paid for this one). However, I was given two options: another Classic or a 10% off coupon for another iPod. Either way my [...] have been wasted. So now I am stuck with another of these things, which will probably malfunction again in a few months. Now I must save up my pennies for another, more reliable, MP3 player.

I guess what I am really trying to say is this: until Apple comes out with an iPod with a more reliable hard drive, stick to the ones with flash memory. My 1st generation iPod Nano has served me well for four and a half years and has never had a single problem, although it only holds about a sixth of my music. Until I have enough extra money for another MP3 player, I will be using my Nano and letting my replacement Classic sit in its box until I feel calm enough to do something with it.

I need an iPod I can rely on, and such a flawed design certainly isn't going to cut it.

This thing is the best! It seriously holds soooo much. Only problem I have had so far is that I bought a referbished one and the click wheel does not sit quite right. I love it there are a few differences the lay out of the menus, And one major difference. The old A/V cables will not work on the new one which is Bull-Puckey. They are [...] bucks from apple. I all ready paid [...] bucks for the first set, but now I have to buy a new set because the old ones are not compataible. [+] 6.0 It's giving me some problems
When I graduated high school back in 2005, a family member gave me an iPod Mini as a gift. The battery died in the spring of 2008, which I temporarily replaced with one of those cheap do-it-yourself kits while waiting out until the holiday season to ask for an upgrade (college kids have no money). With about 5,500 songs in my library, I had also ran out of room on the old player, so I thought the Classic was the best deal for what I needed in GB.

So, I've had the 80 GB iPod Classic Black for about 6 months now, and I wish I could say that I'm happy with the upgrade. My number one problem: songs keep going missing! I upload or download music to my library, but for some reason it never transfers to the iPod when I sync the system. Or sometimes, just as annoying, the artist names don't show up, but I can find their album.

I've also had some issues with stalling. Sometimes the volume locks and refuses to move, and I occasionally have the same problem while scrolling through the menu.

I'm happy that I now have an iPod that can hold my entire library (minus the aforementioned missing tracks), but I can't completely get past the assortment of issues. One thing that I do love about this player is how quickly it charges. Plug it in and it's ready in about two hours (much better than the older models).

Let this review act as a bit of a buyer beware. You may have some of the same issues I've encountered, or maybe I just got a semi-lemon. Weighing the positives and negatives, I'd probably give it 3.5 stars.

This 80GB Ipod classic was reliable for the year-plus our child owned it--until replacing it with another fancier Ipod Touch, The unit held more than 2,000 songs, with space to spare and the battery held up very nicely, unlike the batteries of other ipods we have owned. It was the third in a line of ipods, and the first not to strike out.

This time, I can recommend the Apple product with confidence.

[+] 2.0 Extremely used!
I bought the 80gb ipod in black and when I recieved it, the product had a skin on it that was hard to remove and left the product sticky. The back of the ipod was exrememly scratched. The screen had a few scratches as well. For a few dollars more I could have bought a brand new 120gb ipod instead I wasted my money on an ipod someone stole and decided to sell on amazon. His ipods are a waste of money. He has no return policy and he sent a extremely outdated ipod cord. Terrible.

This item is well worth the money! If you spend a lot of time on the run or on a bus, it's worth it. This is probably the ONE purchase I would make over and over again.

[+] 2.0 Extremely unreliable
I've had my 80gb iPod Classic for about 10 months now. Well, let me correct that - I've had it 6 months, after the first once I got died 4 months after purchase. I've got to give this one credit - it lasted 50% longer than the previous one! But, alas, it's just as dead. I've never dropped them or been rough with them - they either sit on a dock in my car, or in a radio dock on my kitchen counter - but inevitably, they start locking up, and a couple weeks later, Red Circle and X and no more ipod.

It really wouldn't be nearly so bad if Apple actually followed through with their warranty, but of course, their website refuses to acknowledge that my iPod is still under warranty - this one is only 6 months old, but even when you combine the two, it's still under the 12 month warranty it is supposed to have. All I can say is, this is the LAST Apple product I am ever purchasing based on the horrible reliability issues I've been experiencing - I mean, I've got an Xbox 360, and it, the epitome of unreliability, has required far less maintenance than the ipod.

[+] 8.0 Has been great
I wish I could have a normal and supported way to get the music back to my hard disk, but the iPod efficiency has been outstanding. Battery lasts long enough and the space is good as well.

Everyone in our family has a "Classic", so I felt left out. Got myself one, and very happy with it. So easy to use. Thought about the "Touch" but with my eye site the Classic fonts are much easier to see.

[+] 10.0 Pig out! You CAn have it all!
I am the quintessential gadgeteer. In the early 80's I always packed my ultra thin Sony Walkman cassette/radio jukebox with me. I could never dream back then as I ruined so many cassette tapes packing them around that there would be the day Icould pack everything and all the music I owned in something smaller!

Although Apple has discontinued this 160 gig behemoth, it gives us music and video addicts the chance to pack it all in our pockets! I have over 12,000 songs on mine and around 16 full length movies on it now, and I've just used half the available disc space! Which means the only restrictions I have on the size and quantity of stuff I shove into my "pocket jukebox" is the willingness to install a one terrabyte hard drive into my iMac to accomodate all my movies! Then I can pick and choose which ones I wanna "handbrake" to shove into the iPod to watch on long airplane flights.

The battery life is excellent. The thickness is accustomed and I can fit this iPod into most all my leather and rubber cases. The only complaint I have against it is that with all the crap I have on it, it seems a little slower to access what I want. Maybey this is so, because there is so much on it that it taxes it's processor to catagorize all of it!

There is no finer a personal jukebox out there than this 160 gig monster!

[+] 2.0 BROKEN
I think I may have the 5.5 generation but it's still the same basic product and the same company. Mine broke after one and half years. Over $200 and it lasts 18 months? Outside of warranty so I'm out of luck. You'd think a company like Apple would have the integrity to cover something of this cost for more than one year. But no, they want you to plunk down unreasonable amounts of money for some Apple Care Plan. Apple is supposed to be good quality. After 2 broken iPods I have to say I disagree. It's not like we're talking about a disposable razor here. If you buy one buy at Costco because they offer their own 5 year warranties. DO NOT BUY FROM APPLE OR ONLINE!!!!

[+] 10.0 Lots of gigs.
I had purchased this ipod for my fiancee for his birthday. At first I didn't think that anyone would ever use over 30 GB's, but he has used approximately 100 of the 160 GB's. It has been almost a year since I gave it to him and it is still going strong. Ipods are great to have, because of the amount of music, pictures, movies & podcasts that can be stored on them. If you have never purchased an ipod there is one catch that is a drawback to having one as compared to an MP3 player and that is that if you want to add music to it and your computer is down you can't hook it up to someone elses computer to do it or else you will lose all of the music you already have on it. It is one of the longest lasting MP3 players and you pay for what you get. It has a lot of other ways to recharge it other than your computer such as the docks with speakers wall plug ins that many other MP3 players don't have. I have purchased a number of MP3 players that were not ipod for my nieces and nephews and have found that in less than a year most of them were no longer working. Even some of the lower GB ipods don't have the quality that this one has.

[+] 8.0 iPod Classic 80g Silver
I luv my iPod...I have always loved music...and this way I have music with me 24/7 ...I also enjoy bible studies; Chuck Smith, Jon Courson, and Craig Coffin I go to bible college and am able to download the classes I am in, to hear at a later time. It helps so much for that...if you would like an mp3 player I totally recommend this iPod 80g player. The reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5 is the fact that sometimes; not a lot; it will freeze or the click wheel doesn't react that fast...other than that it has tons of space, I have over 2000 songs/bible studies and 2 movies and still have like 37 gigs left of free space.

[+] 10.0 Best purchase I've made in a while.
I was nervous about this purchase at first, I am not a very tech-oriented person so I couldn't get over the hump of software issues friends have had in the past.
However, after purchasing and familiarizing myself with the software I couldn't be happier. This is honestly one of the best purchases I've made in a long time, I've had zero issues with the iPod itself and iTunes has been great, aside from a few grouping/syncing issues which ended up being the user rather than the interface it's self....
I'd highly recommend this to anyone. As I fill it up I keep trying to decide if I should go for another 120 gig or something smaller, it'll probably be the 120gig classic.

[+] 4.0 Avoid - randomly pauses in the middle of songs - no solution from Apple
The subject summarizes it. We'll be grooving to a song, when all of a sudden the music stops for 2 to 10 seconds. It's very random - it can go 5 straight hours without pausing and then do it on 3 songs in a row. Replay the songs that it skips on, and it works fine. Hundreds of owners of this same model have this problem (do a Google search) and Apple hasn't solved any. They say all hard drive-based MP3 players do it. Well, I've had a hard drive-based Creative for 3 years and a 120 gb Zune for the past 6 months and they NEVER paused in the middle of a song.

[+] 8.0 Perfect if you have a large music library!
I had the pleasure of using my 80 GB iPod Classic for a few months before I sold it to get the iPhone 3G and the new iPod Nano in its place. It is the perfect MP3 player for people with a large music library and for those who love to take their movies and/or episodes of their favorite TV shows on the go without the inconvenience of carrying around a laptop or CD case. The sound quality is amazing (more so if you buy a set of more powerful earphones) and the menu, including the cover flow, while somewhat tricky at times, adds attractiveness to the overall device.

Even though I loved my iPod Classic, there were a few cons also:

Size. Though pocketable, the iPod Classic is too large to carry around with you for, say, jogging or going to the gym. I'd rather have something smaller than that for those purposes, which is why I got the nano.

Equalizer is faulty. You can set up your iPod to have whatever sound quality you'd like, but the bass and overall sound may be affected as a result. My advice? Skip the EQ. The original sound is fine as it is.

Cover flow lags a bit. I noticed that the cover flow was at times slow. Sometimes the album cover art took time to appear on the screen. I don't know if my iPod was faulty or if this happens to all of them, but I didn't have that much music stored into the thing (I probably had about 17% of it used), so it couldn't have been the amount of stuff stored into it.

You can't listen to the music all at once. What I mean is, if you select a certain song, the iPod won't continue on to the song in the device. I don't know if you can set it up so that it could do that though. I didn't want to shuffle the songs, which is why I didn't do it that way.

Only available in two colors. The Classic is only available in black or gray. Wouldn't it be nice if it were available in different colors, like the new nanos?

Other than that, everything is wonderful. Battery life is awesome and the storage is amazing (also comes available in 160 GB). So, if you have a large music and video library and are in the bargain of an MP3, and you're an Apple fan, then the iPod Classic is the one for you. I definitely recommend it.

[+] 10.0 I finally bit the bullet!
I have been wanting an iPod for a while now, but was hesitant because of the cost. I finally bit the bullet and it is wonderful! I highly recommend the classic for first time buyers because it has everything you need in an easy to use interface. I have a long commute to and from work and primarily use my classic for audiobooks and podcasts. And let me tell you, at 80GB, it will be years before I fill it up and have to worry about removing anything! And using it in this fashion, a charge will last most of the week, although when the kids use it for videos the battery drains faster.
Definitely a must buy.

[+] 10.0 Audio Study Made Easy
I really don't know how I lived without it before. For years, the software for iTunes constantly froze and frustrated me. So, I bought several other MP3 players, but none of them were particularly satisfactory.

Finally, the iPod software is working well on my computer, but more importantly, a range of materials are now available for my iPod. I have downloaded free of charge the audio Bible and other religious texts from the website of my church -- which now has audio scriptures available in Portuguese and Spanish in addition to English!

I discovered Faith Through Hearing and was able to download Bibles in Japanese and Korean.

Then I discovered the membership on audible which includes a free daily audible download of Wall Street Journal.

My iPod will now plug into the new cars that are being produced and I have the mini speakers and bring it with me whenever I travel so I have a full collection of scriptures, audio books, music. This magic little device allows me to easily and comfortably wait for a doctor's appointment or a plane flight. The battery is so long, it can keep me entertained on transoceanic flights.

It's the greatest little gift to myself.

[+] 10.0 80 GB-Great Investment
I got this one for my birthday last year and have already filled up 15 GB with movies, audiobooks, music and podcasts. One problem I am having is that some of my songs are not copying to the iPod. Also, I can't figure out how to sync songs from 2 different libraries and keep the songs from the second library on my iPod.

Other than these issues, I would purchase the 160 GB online from Amazon once I filled this one up. I also have a 2 GB Shuffle, 8 GB Nano 3G, and a 16 GB Nano 4G all of which are full. I may pass these onto my nieces when they get a little older.

Great investment since I also have a 5 GB Rio Carbon that isn't as customizable as the iPod.
