Okay, you can't screen w/ caller id, it takes up a little more desk space, but it actally has some meat to it and sounds great.

Best corded phone on the market -- voice quality, lighted keypad, small footprint. It's everything I need.

[+] 10.0 A simple & reliable telephone
The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.

The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great. I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up. The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".

Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.

A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)

[+] 10.0 BASIC, BUT SOLIDLY BUILT!
It's a very fair price and this is your basic phone (which is what I was looking for). The sound is good. But what impressed me is that this phone is a QUALITY phone. It is built solidly. It does not feel like those cheap thin weight-less plastic phones now available at Costco or Sam's Club. It doesn't feel cheap. Also, the black color will hide dirty fingerprints. I'm happy with this purchase.

[+] 10.0 When the power goes out....
Wireless battery operated phones are vulnerable to power outages. Cell phones do not direct 911 services to your physical address. When a child dials 911 using your household phone line, 911 personnel are directed to your address whether or not the caller can identify themselves or their location. Without a phone that is exclusively powered by the phone line you may not be able to contact emergency services during power outages. This phone is our emergency phone and stays plugged in at all times. Everyone home needs an emergency phone line when modern day communication fails. It does the job as expected in this role, buttons and numbers are visible in the dark and most of all it does not rely on cell phone towers or electricity. But don't just rely on my review. Call your phone provider to find out exactly how reliable your local and/or mobile phone service is during a power outage or an emergency.

[+] 10.0 Great phone for the price
THIS is the Trimline phone that I remember from past years! I had bought an AT&T "Trimline" phone that was really poor - it didn't have the features that I expected, and remembered. I bought one of these in white color for my wife, and then found that it was so good that I ordered the black model for myself.

This phone has a backlit screen (excellent for night-time calls), powered by the phone line - no batteries required. The light intensity isn't very high, but is readable in the dark. I found the quick dial use to be fine, although I was a bit surprised that one needs to program in the emergency number (isn't 911 standard?), but maybe some people want to call their relatives in an emergency or something. I have mine wall mounted, although the unit works either wall or desk.

The phone is handsome, and the features (handset and ringer volume, quick dial, etc) work well.

The only drawback is that the handset is fairly large. I am 6' tall with big hands, and it fits me fine, but if you are purchasing for a smaller hand you might need a different model.

[+] 10.0 Beyond reliable
People say this is basic and reliable, and we can attest to that. We're purchasing a replacement for the Trimline 210 that lasted for 26 years! The old one in the kitchen was the main phone that everyone went to first. It survived the handset accidentally being dropped countless times and has worked in every power outage. No bells and whistles, just a reliable, sturdy product that does what it should.

[+] 4.0 Not as good as my old Conair phone
Sound quality was down and keypad lighting was inferior compared to my old Conair phone. I also found the electronic tones to indicate a ringing phone to not be to my tastes. I guess AT&T forgot how to make a basic phone. Folks, go to a garage sale and find the phone you like for $1 or less. The only positives I have to say about the phone is that it looks nice in shiny black and that the part of the headset that sits by my ear is fairly comfortable in the "old classic phone" way. Two nice things to say means 2 stars.

Why oh why did Conair quit making phones?

[+] 4.0 Not a wall phone
Purchased this phone because the description said it could be mounted on a wall. It does mount on the wall, but the receiver keeps falling out of the cradle. This is NOT a wall mount phone--I have tried various things but nothing works. It's a great phone for desk, bedside table or counter use, but do not buy it if you need a wall mounted phone.

[+] 8.0 Functional, No Frills & Good Price
This is as simple and straightforward as a single line phone with a Caller ID display I have found, the price I paid for this is 1/3 of what I found on a web site specializing in telephones. The only quibble is the placement of the "Flash" button, if you grip the handset above the lower third of the handset, you will inadvertently cut off your calls by putting pressure on the "Flash" button. This phone could be improved by making the buttons on the back of the handset smaller, and leaving more "real estate" for large hands to grip it. [+] 10.0 Excellent Product
I purchased this phone to replace one of those cordless phones. Because it can be wall mounted, high out of the reach of my young grandchildren and because it has a corded handset that the g-kids can't make off with it; this phone is a great choice for households with small children. It is also an excellent product in its price and construction. I am very happy with this telephone.

[+] 8.0 Just in case the power goes out, which it does from time to time here.
The great thing about this phone is one simple fact: it's not digital. Why is that great? Because in emergencies where the power has gone out in your home you will not be able to use the nice gadgetry of your digital phone because, lo and behold, there will be no electrical power from which to run it.

But, the Trimline is not digital. It's an analog phone that runs simply off the standard phone cord. No other electrical power is necessary, and it will work even when the power is out provided that no local phone lines are down anywhere.

And that's a plus no matter how you slice it. My parents are aging and I'd like the ability to contact them in case the power goes out so that I can make certain that they are ok.

Phones are great for business or personal use, but if they don't function when you really need them then they are not worth very much, are they?

[+] 8.0 Good phone
Nice low-price and low-tech phone. Keypad is backlit by power from the phone line (no need to plug it in or to use batteries). Ringer can be turned up, down, or off right in the side of the handset which is nice if you have sleeping kids. Handset is comfortable to hold against ear. To hang it on a wall, a small plastic part in the base must be removed, flipped, and reinserted otherwise the handset falls out of the base. My only minor complaint is that the handset doesn't really 'click' into the base solidly even after reversting the part that hold it there. It feels like it might possibly fall off in an earthquake...but maybe not. This is the only thing causing me to give it 4 stars instead of 5. Anyway, I'd buy this phone again if I needed another.

[+] 10.0 Excellent deal for the money
I purchased this phone to replace an identical one that has served me for 20 years. I just finally wore it out. The new one has been in use for about a month now with no problems. It is our main land line phone so it gets a lot of abuse. It is a good, basic, no-frills phone that lasts. Sound quality excellent.

[+] 6.0 Reasonable for the price.
We were looking for a quality phone from a name brand
company. We wanted a phone that had some weight, since
we were concerned about it being knocked around on the
table. This phone fits the bill. The sound
is ok, but not always crystal-clear...however, there is a possibility
that our lines are causing the problem. For what its worth....we bought
one a few months ago and bought another for another room in the house.

[+] 4.0 NOT the ATT 210 phone I am used to
I have two other ATT 210 Trimline phones. I like them a lot. I like the lighted buttons in the handle and the solid construction with the heavy base.

This newer version is very poor in comparison. Only some of the buttons are actually lighted and the lighting is very dim on those that are. Its feels too lightweight, especially the base. The construction quality seems very poor.

I wish I could buy the same phone built in the same way as my older ones.

[+] 10.0 Good, solid basic phone for the money
My portable phone finally went haywire so I decided to buy this corded phone since I don't really need a portable and all the static that comes with it. This AT&T phone is a basic design, feels sturdy and works very well with clear sound. No static, no distortion, no sounding like people are in the distance or speaking from a straw or whatever, it sounds just like the good old solid phones we used to have before all the portable junk started spreading all over the place. I accidentally dropped it when answering a call and it came out unscathed. If you want a solid, basic phone without bells and whistles, buy this one. Actually, it does have the ability to program thirteen numbers (a feature I used successfully) so it does have some bells and whistles.

[+] 10.0 A Decent Basic Phone At A very Decent Price
All the good reviews are justified. Extremely good sound quality. Just enough features to make it satisfying to use...last number redial, mute, lighted dial(Not the brightest, but still adequate), up to 13 numbers memory dialing.
As others have pointed out, the handset cord is a bit short, but it's easy enough to acquire a longer one if you want.
The phone seems pretty sturdily constructed and it's pretty inexpensive.....a good buy.

[+] 10.0 Solid and dependable
This model is really Old Reliable. The price is right, the sound is fine (and there's volume control), the one-touch dialing is simple to program, the keys light up, and -- as I can affirm -- you can drop the phone onto a hard floor without it breaking.

[+] 8.0 Yes, you need a regular phone
For a very small investment, I'd recommend getting this phone to keep in touch with the world when our ubiquitous "fancy" technologies fail. We keep this phone connected to a jack in our office next to our desk where it's handy for everyday and it always works, regardless of power failures. You may think you have a real back-up to your cell phone if you have a land line, but remember that portable phones require electricity to work. I particularly chose this phone cause it doesn't have Caller ID (which requires batteries that need replacing) and the previous A T & T Trimline phone we had lasted over 10 years. We consider it part of our emergency preparedness.

[+] 10.0 Programming has to be done speedily, but a good phone, even with DSL!
We have DSL, and this phone has presented no problem. I did have trouble programming it; seems to me you have to move your fingers at a pretty good clip to get it to memorize the number. (No time to pause and check numbers as you go.) Instructions from other reviewers were helpful, more helpful than the booklet that came with the phone. Cheap, convenient.

[+] 8.0 Good cheap phone, but the cord is too short
Got this phone for all our power outages that we have. Can't use those cordless during those times. Unfortunately people call when our local grid goes out all the time, when most the area stays on, and they can't get through. It's a back up phone. The sound is a little tinney, but hey, its inexpensive. But the cord is just too short imo. You really have to stay or sit right next to the phone b/c of its length.

[+] 10.0 Works fine as a wall-mounted phone
I bought this specifically to wall mount it in a confined space. You must adjust the plastic thing-y that holds the handset onto the base when mounted vertically so it doesn't fall off the hook. The instruction manual tells you:
"To install the telephone on a wall jack, you must
reverse a small tab beneath the directory card. This
tab holds the handset in place when you hang up."
Voila!

[+] 2.0 NOT A WALL PHONE!!!
I feel like I should yell this out. In my home, we have a very basic wall phone. This phone seemed to fit the bill. However, when I hooked it to my wall, the receiver would not stay connected to the base. Therefore, my phone was off the hook constantly. Not a wall phone, desk phone...would be perfect.

[+] 4.0 Corded Wall Phone
I purchased this one to replace an identical one that suddenly stopped working after owning less than 1 year. Rather than repackage and pay shipping costs I purchased a new one. The programming feature does not work, but since it isn't a necessary requirement, I'm keeping it.

[+] 10.0 classic, simple technology at its best
What a relief that they haven't stopped making these yet. I've owned the same one for over a decade now with nary a problem. I just purchased one for my brother whose battery was always dying in the middle of a conversation. There's alot to be said for simple technology, like this phone still works when the power is out and it's likely to last forever because there's very little that can go wrong with it. This is an excellent phone to have around for when the fancy multi-function, cordless, combination answering machine, 10,000 ring tone, does-your-dishes-and-wipes-your-a%@ phone just doesn't work!

[+] 10.0 a pretty good phone for the price
I recently bought this phone for my father who likes his phones simple and easy to use. This telephone by AT&T works better than other, much fancier phones, including two expensive cordless phones with extra handsets, when I had to get a new phone for my new home. The construction of this telephone reflects great engineering; and it's very, very reliable for a price that's very inexpensive these days for a phone. Yes, it is corded; but when all you really need is a basic phone this really does the job.

The phone has back lit buttons which are desirable for those of us who are elderly or in any way sight impaired. The buttons could be brighter but the back lighting does improve upon no lighting. The phone offers well known features including "last number redial," and allows you to set the phone up with your telephone company so that you can use this phone with features like call waiting and three way calling. The phone has a mute feature, adjustable ringer volume and more. These functions never disappoint me. It also has a small knob that lets you switch between touch tone and pulse (rotary) dialing. I use touch tone dialing as most people do. I am particularly impressed that a phone in this price range even has a twelve number memory feature for speed dialing. Cool!

If you want to take a nap without the phone ringing, just turn the ringer off by using the knob at the base of the phone.

I highly recommend this telephone for people who need a basic phone at a cheap price that still has a few "frills" to like including memory speed dialing and call waiting. The extra features give you all you truly need to make this a well constructed telephone at a ridiculously inexpensive price. Sure, the back lighting for the buttons on the phone could be brighter; but overall this is still quite a good phone for the price. The phone takes up little space and it can even be wall mounted to completely save counter space in a kitchen or any other room.

[+] 2.0 Cheap Plastic
All the buttons don't lit evenly, because there's only one small light source. Second, the buttons are not the soft translucent pads. They are gray hard plastic. The whole unit feels light and made of cheap plastic. No metal reinforcement. Sound quality as usual.

It's cheaper at Fry's than from Amazon.

[+] 10.0 Happy With My Purchase
I purchased two of these phones, one for my Mom, and one for me. My mother is elderly, so I bought this phone for her because it has three buttons on the top row of the keypad especially for emergency numbers. Also, since it has a programmable memory, she can easily access family members cell or home phone numbers. This particular A T & T model phone has always proven to be reliable and long-lasting, so I know my money hasn't been wasted.
