USB Ethernet Adaptor got me Connected!
My 2003 Dell Inspiron 8200 has seen its better days, but it is still Kicken! Both exspansion slots, the ethernet port, the Disc Drive & the floppy drive are all Broke! My only access to the outside world is (2) USB ports and I needed to install a Wireless G Router which required an Eternet Port. With That, I went with the "Belkin F5D5050 USB Ethernet Adaptor" and it worked like a Charm! I just Plugged it in and Windows XP found it and ran the setup wizard. My Router, connected thru the "Belkin F5D5050 USB Ethernet Adaptor" has been running fine for weeks now!

Gets the Job Done
I needed an ethernet adapter in order to log on to an employer's network from home, because their server could not read my DHCP with the cable I was using. The Belkin F5D5050 was among those recommended for this purpose.
I used Super Saver shipping and received the Belkin in the mail much sooner than I was expecting, as it shipped the very next day after I ordered it (way to go Amazon). The item was in perfect condition in packaging that was easy to unwrap.
Setting up the adapter was as simple as plugging it into a USB port and hooking it up to the router. My laptop recognized the manufacturer instantly and created drivers without me having to open the wizard. One thing to note is that the drivers that automatically install are for Windows XP, but this model does have an update available to make it compliant with Vista, you just have to download it from Belkin's website. There is a little bit eyestrain involved in locating the correct driver update, but once you've found it, downloading is a snap.
The adapter did precisely what I purchased it to do, and for general purposes it works much better than the setup I was using before, which is a nice bonus. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others looking for an adapter for similar reasons.
I would like to write a good review for the battery charger but I can't because I don't have it. I ordered it on Sept. 18 and it is now Sept. 24 and no charger. The USPS says I should have it by October 14.
Why on earth would someone ship a small item costing more than $350 by ground USPS?!
I was told by TIVO this would work but it doesn't. Now I can't return it.

Does not work with xp
Firstly, it says 10/100 mbps but its a 1.1 usb adapter and not usb 2.0 which
means you can get no more than theoritical 12 mbps. This is no big deal
as most dsl and cable broadband have around the same bandwidth ranging from
2mbps to 12 mbps.
No way you can get 100 mbps in your home network.
Will be slower than wireless g speed.
Specifying 100 mbps in 10/100 mbps is very misleading.
I tried installing the device on windows xp sp2.build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.
Next its not plug and play on windows xp. You plug it in and the
internal speaker bell keeps beeping non stop.
On vista 32 bit it recognised this as Belkin nework
adapter and was plug and play.
After the driver was installed, it did light up the device and worked.
On windows xp, the plugged in USB just keeps ringing the internal speaker bell every 2 seconds
with or without no driver installed. No light appears
on the device.
I tried installing the driver that came with the cd.
It wrongly recognises it as 'bluetooth lan access server driver'.
I went into control panel,
, devices uninstalled it.
Then went through the "add/remove hardware wizard" and tried to
add it. No luck it updated a driver 'AN986 usb to fast Ethernet adapter"
which was useless. A waste of time.
I disabled all ethernet devices i.e. the built in an on my compaq laptop. Also the wifi and the
bluetooth dongle and went through the above install doing the song and dance
routine of ... install from disk.. No luck .
I thought this problem was specific to my compaq dell laptop with xp. Tried installing the device on ACer laptop with windows xp
of my friends and well the same problem or internal speaker bell keeps ringing for no reason when the device is plugged in. The plug and play was activating
the bell like ti ting ti ting ta ta ta. Not sure if i wanted my laptop as
a dance partner .
I am dissatisfied. Not worth the trouble in todays age of plug n and play.
I guess it might work in win2000 or win2003 or vista 32bit as per the reviews. Not sure how
it can work on windows xp. Worst experience.
spent hours.
The setup file on the cd for belkin Usb has a driver file dt. sep 26 2001
on cd. (8 years ago), The drivers on the web site for file NET8511 that contains setup information for this device was dated 11/8/2006. (3 years)
Was unsuccessful in it recognising the belkin correctly with both drivers
.
No luck and a total waste of time. spent hours and not worth the trouble
in todays plug and play age of software.
Returning the same.

USB 1.1 - Max 12Mbps
I struggled with whether or not to review but felt a need to inform potential buyers that this is a USB 1.1 device. Meaning - at best it will transfer 12Mbps not 100Mbps. If you will be using this primarily for internet access you will likely not see any speed difference as most broadband speeds are far less than 12Mbps. However, if you have a home network and use this device to send/receive information across the network you will notice a significabnt lag compared to a standard network card or a USB 2.0 adapter which can take advantage of the full 200Mbps Full Duplex mode.
I am not suggesting in any way that this is a bad product - just make sure you get the product that best meets your needs. I do think the $25 is excessive for a USB 1.1 device, should be more in the $15 range - my opinion anyway.

This item works just as promised - great
When a recent lightning storm came thru I thought all my equipment made it thru okay - I just lost a few light bulbs. But when I could not get online I found my network port was dead. I had the choice of putting in a network card but all the slots were used so I started looking for somthing else to fix my problem.
A USB to Ethernet Adaptor was just the answer. When I searched and came up with a Belkin product I felt safe in trying. I was not dissapointed. It installed with just a plug in and was able to be back on line in minutes. All I had to do was add this device as a network connetion and I was up and running.
This adaptor shows no compromise from the built in port I was using before. It fixed my problem and I was back to work. It did just what it advertizes and no installations issues. I trust the Belkin name and was fully satisfied. I would recommend this for a fix over installing a network card.

works for TiVo Series 2
This adapter works for my TiVo Series 2, to allow physical network connection (not wireless). No drivers nor hassle. Great if you just want to plug your TiVo into your home router with a patch cable, and not bother messing with an (exploitable) home wireless connection.
Don't forget to check and see if you need to buy an IR control adapter wire, now that we've all been switched over to digital services.

Even more impressive, I ordered it yesterday with just the standard 3-day shipping, and it came in this morning. Amazon has excellent service and fast shipping.

Simple and Effective
I recently had to bypass my ethernet card to connect to a particularly fussy network, and the Belkin F5D5050 USB to Ethernet Adapter was exactly what I needed. Forget directions, this adapter is plug and play simplicity at its finest, and never gave me a minutes trouble. Works just fine with Vista. Couldn't be better.
There are some third party drivers for this on the internet for OS X, but the results are SLOW, must slower than wireless. You can buy a USB to Ethernet converter from Apple that is FAST.
earlier I had linksys usb ethernet adaptor, just like memory stick. After that I purchased this because design of the older adaptor was not good and it broke down. This is very good in design. and you can also attach this where there is very less space around the USB port.
I recently signed up for cable internet, but could not get the Ethernet port to work (and can't find a driver update - it's an older motherboard). This USB adapter was very easy to install, is VERY compact, and my download speeds have been around 4,000 (my connection is rated for 5,000 max, so not bad since I have USB 1.1 ports, not 2.0)
Eventually I might look at getting an Ethernet PCI card or hold out for my long-awaited driver updates, but this solution has been very satisfactory!

A simple solution
I have a Dell desktop that I purchased in 2002 & I wanted to get it hooked up to the Internet for the kids. It has no ethernet port (only a phone in port for dialup Internet) and I thought I was going to have to install one. When I searched on Amazon.com, this product came up & I thought I'd give it a shot. Plugged it in, installed the software, restarted the computer and here I am. I highly recommend this product!
I'm usually sceptical when buying after-market computer peripherals but I must admit this thing works like a charm. If your ethernet port is broke like mine then I would highly recommend this product.

Replace the motherboard?!! Nah!! Just get this!
When a storm fried my ethernet port, the Mac forums I researched said you'd have to replace the motherboard to fix it. That, of course, would mean a ridiculous amount of money.
Fortunately, I found an article that recommended this under-$30 device. To make it work with Mac OSX, it explained, you'd just need to download the free Pegasus USB-to-Ethernet driver (found at sourceforge, among others).
Well, I got it today, plugged it in, and at first it didn't pull up an IP address. I called my ISP and went through a couple of simple steps -- something involving a manual setting in my network -- and soon up popped those beautiful IP address numbers. Who knows -- it might have just taken the modem a minute to figure it out and the settings I fiddled with might not have done anything. Point is, it worked with minor hassle.
What a relief! Great product at a great price. (Would be even better if it came with the Mac software/driver - we're not Untouchable Fringe People, you know, Belkin!) ;)

This gadget saved me almost $280!
My daughter's HP DV6226US notebook was plugged into our router/hub when lightning struck the cable box in our community. While the router came out unscathed, the Motorola cable modem, Netgear hub, my son's desktop PC and my daughter's HP notebook all sustained damage. All but the notebook were a total loss. On the notebook, the built-in ethernet adapter took the hit and stopped working. Although the wireless continued to work fine, that would be little help when she returned to school in the fall and connect to the cable in her dorm room. As the 1 year warranty on the notebook expired in February 2008, HP wanted $300 to repair it. Before committing to the repair, I decided to try the Belkin F5D5050 as I had used one previously on an old laptop and it worked fine. After downloading the Vista drivers from the Belkin website, the Belkin ehternet adaptor came to life! The money I saved on this fix will be put towards a new notebook for her maybe next year.
Worked flawlessly to connect my TiVo Series 2 to the wired network. Plugged it in, and by the time I got to Settings the TiVo had a network connection and had switched itself off of phone. Couldn't be happier.

Easy solution to messy problem
I have several Macintosh computers, all of which had their Ethernet connection damaged by an electrical surge from a lightning bolt which hit next door. On iMacs and iBooks, for all their many virtues, replacing the Ethernet jack and board is an expensive proposition.
