Product Specifications

Ideal for the chemically sensitive or those with small children, the Bissell Steam Mop deep-cleans hard-surface floors using the power of pure water alone. No harsh (or expensive) cleaners means no fumes or residues to irritate lungs or muddy delicate finishes, while the use of hot steam rather than buckets of water leaves floors dry in just seconds. Heated and ready to use in 30 seconds, the remarkably quiet mechanism works something like an iron: steam is dispensed on demand, rather than continuously, by pressing the trigger while passing the mop over the floor. Hot steam easily removes hardened and sticky gunk, especially if the mop sits over the mess for a few seconds. (Leave it in place 15 seconds to actually sanitize the cleaning surface.) The machine steams for approximately 15 minutes before the tank needs to be refilled, but there's no lag once you refill it.

The Steam Mop's low-profile 360-degree swiveling head accesses hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, like under kitchen cabinets, while its compact profile stores easily in small spaces. Other thoughtful design touches include a quick-release cord wrap and easy-carry handle, as well as a built-in water filter to protect from the minerals and impurities in hard water. (An indicator lets users know when the filter need to be replaced.) Durable, reusable microfiber pads are safe on all sealed hard surfaces and clean up nicely in the washing machine, making them more environmentally friendly than disposable options. Measuring 6 by 11 by 45-1/2 inches, the Bissell Steam Mop weighs less than 7 pounds and is covered by a one-year limited warranty.--Mary Park

[+] 10.0 Great Steam Mop at Affordable Price
The Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop works great. I have the vinyl wood plank style flooring that sticks together with an adhesive seam that creates a waterproof floor. I was worried that that steam mop might actually heat the adhesive seams and break the waterproof seal, but that was not the case. It cleaned my floors beautifully and was easy to use. My daughter had a new puppy in her room. We found that the puppy had been urinating behind her desk and the urine stains had been there a while, like a couple weeks, so had crystallized in some parts. Very gross. The steam mop had no problem getting the entire mess up. We did go through 2 pads to finish the job because there was quite a volume of mess. Thank goodness the steam mop came with 2 pads. I love the fact that the pads are washable and can just be thrown in the washer and dryer. No extra pad costs every month. I would recommend getting a couple extra pads if you have a large house and want to mop everything at once. A single pad usually cleans one room before needing laundered. If the floors are especially dirty (like with my 3 dogs muddy feet), you may need two mop pads per room. The pads are easy to put on and take off the mop. The mop heats up pretty quick and is easy to push around. Other steam mops have the water reservoir in the bottom of the mop which means you have to use more effort to push the mop around and steam the floors. This mop seems to have the right balance with the water reservoir being along the length of the handle without being bulky. I would recommend this mop and have recommended it to several friends and relatives already.

Found that it does work. It's steam generation is pretty weak. All I seem to be doing is a good wet mop without chemicals.

[+] 8.0 Bissell Steam Mop a good product
I'm a single guy and I'm not a neat freak. But I have 2 dogs and a cat so my floors get dirty. This item is great. It's ready to use in a few seconds and it does a really good job cleaning the floors without much effort. I've noticed some minor streaking but not too noticeable. I highly recommend this steam mop for everybody.

[+] 6.0 It's sorta ok, but could be better !
I was searching for a proper solution for the all tile floors in a one bedroom apartment with kitchenette. I was tired for spending half of my life cleaning floors, so I gave it a try. It will never compare to a solid old fashioned cleaning. Nothing ever seems to. I viewed the videos on this item before purchase. But they only showed them cleaning a small portion, like two rows of tile or something. You may have to change pads and water from time to time. Bissell recommends distilled water, though they say it uses tap water. Once the pad is saturated with water, or you try to rinse it out, it will leave pools of water, and really doesn't do a great job. There are other models on the internet to check out. The totally ability of the steam mop depends on its absorbant quality. The Eureka 313A Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer seems to be a good model to consider.

[+] 10.0 I love this mop
When I first got this mop, I cleaned my floor with my regular cleaner and a mop. I then cleaned it again with the steam mop. I was amazed at the difference. I have both tile and hardwood floors. I can clean my floors in half the time without having to lug a heavy bucket around. I love being able to re-use the mop heads. It gets up sticky messes without much effort. I have had this item for going on 3 years now and I still love it.

Could there be some improvements? Sure. A longer cord, an on/off switch, and the mop heads could be more durable. It doesn't clean corners and as close to appliances as I would like, but it doesn't take me very long to clean what the mop leaves behind.

[+] 10.0 works great
The design is compact, light and easily maneuverable in tight spaces. Does extremely well on tile. Have yet to use on wood, but from my experience it should do well. I did find you can be too heavy on the steam trigger leaving excess moisture, where any occasional pull is sufficient. Easy to fill and washable mop pads are a plus.

[+] 2.0 Didn't work for long
I bought the Bissell steam mop last April and was happy with the job it did on my ceramic tile floors in the bathrooms. I didn't get such a good result on my wood floors, but anything's better than cleaning a huge wood floor on your hands and knees! The steamer left lots of streaks, so I decided to add some white vinegar to the water tank when I filled it up. That improved the situation.
All was going well until one day in November, I plugged in the unit, it heated up fine, but when I went to pull the trigger for steam, nothing came out. I tried letting the unit be for awhile thinking that it needed more time to heat up the water. Not the case!
I tried seeing if the hole where the steam came out was plugged, but nothing changed. Then I tried taking it apart to see if the plug was up higher. Well, that was a HUGE mistake. I couldn't get the unit back together, so I just threw it out!
Afterward, I contacted Bissell and told them my story. Unfortunately, they said because I tried to fix the unit, it voided the warranty so I was out of luck. Don't tamper with your steam mop!
If your Bissell steam mop just quits working, contact Bissell if it's within 1 yr of purchase. I'm not sure how much they'll charge to fix it, but I won't buy another Bissell because the unit only worked for about 6 months.
I'm looking at others and will read customer reviews before I select another.

[+] 6.0 I am confused on what to buy.
I have not yet used any of these products, but i have read lots of reviews on the steam mops. I have read the one where they compared 5 other mops and teh bissel won the challenge. I have read lots of reviews that sais the bissel leaves a sopping wet mess behind and takes forever to dry. I have allaminate wood floors and do not need this hassel. So my question to users is are these people with the sopping wet mess just not using it correctly? How can there be so many reviews that really like this and so many reviews that say its a sopping mess. Because if it is a sopping mess on everyones I would not think they would like this mop. Can someone please answer this for me before I purchase a mop?

I love this mop it is wonderful I have no complaints at all. the only way it could be better if that were possible would be to make it lighter. but it isnt bad. and maybe put the water on the top of it so you could see easier what the water supply is. but I would buy it again in a heart beat just like it is if I had to have another one. and I would diffently recommend it to anyone wanting a steam mop. I have tried several before I got this one. and as far as I am concerned this is the best I have found.

[+] 2.0 Watch your step
I am a neat freak. I have white ceramic floors in dining room and kitchen and thought this mop sounded great so I bought it. What a pain in the back. I used it on my hallways (pergo ) and had to get on my hands and knees to dry it off. I used it on my ceramic tile and had to towel dry it too. The mop does clean, the water is hot and while I was talking to Bissell on the phone I plugged the machine in and had the represenative guide me through the process. Still, lots of standing water. My floors are slick when wet so my only option is to hand dry them. Leaving the ceramic floor to dry on its own took about 6 minutes and left lots of streaks. If I had lots of time to clean the floor and hand dry it I would probably keep the mop but I wanted a way to get out of the kitchen quicker so this proudct does not work for me.

[+] 4.0 Maintenance costs too much/Floor too wet
Had I known that I would need to spend 20% of the cost of this unit over and over for the water filter which doesn't last as long as they estimate, I would have gotten one without the filter. Also, you cannot bypass the filter, and if you don't change it the steam STINKS up your house like fish. It also does leave the floor wetter than I'd like out of a steam mop, but I can live with that, as it dries faster than a mop/bucket would.

I would recommend that you get one without a filter. They sell "aroma oils" now so that your house doesn't stink when you are done using it, but wouldn't this contribute to the shortened life of the filter???

I'm all for green cleaning, but at what price?

[+] 8.0 get's the job done
This product does what it says it will do. I use it on my laminate and vinyl floors and it does a good job of making them look clean (gets rid of spots, etc.) I love how I don't have to use chemicals anymore to clean my floors! My only dislike is how much water it leaves on the floor - I just have to be careful as to how long I hold in the trigger. Other than that, I like this product.

[+] 10.0 Works Great and is Easy to Use
After reading many reviews I decided to buy this Bissell Steam Mop. It was a very good decision. As soon as I received it I put it together (which was incredibly easy), read through the brief instructions, and started using it. It works amazing! I was actually very surprised at how well it cleaned my floor (which is linoleum tile and also Italian ceramic). It worked wonders on both. Cleaning the pad was a breeze. I tossed it into my washing machine and it was ready for another cleaning. You do get two pads with this mop. This is my first steam mop so I cannot compare it to any others, but I am very pleased with this one and would recommend it to anyone.

[+] 10.0 fast. simple. easy.
The Bissell Steam mop has been great so far. I've owned it for about a month and used it regularly. it's so much easier than my regular mop because there's nothing to lug around with you or clean up afterwards. it only takes a minute to heat up and then you're good to go and the only clean up is to toss the pad into the dirty clothes.
I have used it on my hardwood floors, tile and vinyl with no problems. The water left behind evaporates very quickly because it's so hot, so there's no damage to the wood and I don't have to keep the kids and dog out of the mopped area for more than 10 minutes total.
I've also actually used it on the shower walls and tub, too.

[+] 10.0 Wish I would have bought one sooner!
After a lot of thought and research I just bought this Bissell steam mop. I will admit it was not my first choice (did not have enough money for that), but I am very pleased with the Bissell! Went to work on the bathroom tile floor first and it got up some stuck on tarry goop that I had been trying to get off for over a year now. It maneuvered well around the toilet, so I could thoroughly sanitize that area. Next day I tackled the kitchen and diningroom linoleum and it got off stuck on tarry goop again with no problem. Next I did the wood laminate livingroom and hallway and it was a breeze to clean. Did I mention we live in the country, have dogs and cats, not to mention a husband who works in industrial maintenance and refuses to remove his work boots when he comes in? I have tried everything (bleach, brushes, various mops, etc.)to remove those tarry goop spots in the past and with this Bissell steam mop they come off with a few seconds of steam and a couple of rubs. My floors have never looked better! I actually am excited to clean them now because I know they will actually get completely clean, and I will not have to drop from exhaustion to get them clean. I am also glad I will never have to pay for those expensive Swiffer mop pads again, which did not do near as good a job. Even better, no more chemical fumes to harm my pets' and my health. I told my 84 year old father about it and he is getting one also (for his housekeeper to use) since he reacts to cleaning chemicals. My only regret is I should have bought this sooner! I love it!

I recently installed 16 x 16 Brazilian slates in my kitchen and dining area and I really pondered what would be the best way to clean them. I bought the Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop and it really does the job. It heats up quickly and really gets up dirt and dog drool. I love the color too as it matches my glass tiles in my kitchen. It was meant to be! Thank you Bissell!

[+] 8.0 Clean Floors With NO Chemicals
I just ordered my first steam mop, and received it 2 days after ordering through Amazon.com. I did a lot of research before making my choice. I almost went with a Monster, after seeing one in the vacuum store, but... they were actually out of stock, which ended up saving me about $60. After I came back home and went back over all the reviews, I went ahead and ordered the Bissell. The two main reasons I chose the Bissell over the Monster were that the Monster's handle is attached at the sides of the mop head, instead of in the center, so I didn't think it would get under the toe kicks of the cabinets, and the reports of the handle being flimsy. The Bissell's handle seems very sturdy.

Description:
It comes in a rectangular box, in three pieces: the steam mop base, and the two-piece handle. Two included screws hold the pieces together, so all we needed for assembly was a basic Phillips-head screwdriver.

Put together, the whole thing is about 45" high. The mop head, with the cover fitted on, is a rectangle with a slightly curved back edge (I'm sure there's a geometric name for this shape, but I flunked geometry), 11" wide by about 6" across at the widest point front to back. The handle fits onto the mop head in a ball and socket joint, allowing a full rotation of the head to get into tight spaces (but it won't fit behind the toilet, sorry, I tried).

The cord is about 18' long, and winds around a pair of catches on the handle; the top one is a quick-release style. This is long enough to do my entire kitchen and breakfast room, or the bathrooms, without having to stop and move the cord.

The top of the handle has a downward curve set at an upward angle, with a control switch under the curve. I've read other reviews that indicated the control switch gets tiring to use, but I think it's been redesigned since then; this switch is a very simple lever that you hold up to produce steam. How much steam you get depends on how far up you hold the lever.

The tank holds about a pint of water, and fits very neatly onto the back of the handle, on top of the water filter. It is easy to remove and replace. The filter is composed of tiny green and white beads; when they turn blue, it's time to change the filter. Using distilled water will lengthen the life of the filter.

One of the microfiber covers was already fitted onto the mop, the other was included in the packaging. I ordered 2 more sets of 2/ea mop covers, which arrived today. All I had to do was add distilled water, plug it in, wait for the water to heat, and I was ready to go. The ready light, indicating that the water had heated, took a while to come on the first time it was plugged in. The owner's manual said it would, and that after that it would not take so long again until the filter was changed. So far this seems to be the case; the next time I plugged it in the unit heated very quickly.

Usage:
Our kitchen and breakfast area has unglazed Mexican tile brick; it's currently unsealed, as we are not quite finished with a kitchen remodel. Two bathrooms have ceramic tile floors with fairly wide grout spaces. An issue on one of those bathrooms has been the cat's litter box. As she got older (she lived to be 20) and her hips got arthritic, she didn't always get all the way into the box and sometimes missed the litter, which resulted in urine soaking into the grout. (Here's a tip, by the way, original formula Listerine helps kill the bacteria that cause a lot of the odor in cat urine and spray. Mix equal parts Dawn detergent, Listerine and water, apply, scrub, rinse, and repeat. It may take two or three tries, but it really has worked for us.)

I first used the mop in the bathrooms, after vacuuming the floors. It did a very good job removing dirt, and further deodorizing the area where the littler box used to be. It didn't help the tile floor of the shower very much; guess those mineral stains will take a lot more elbow grease.

Then I mopped the kitchen floor. Wow. This space is about 9 feet wide by 24 feet long. The bricks in the floor are not evenly and smoothly laid. I seriously doubt if any of them are really level. The surfaces of the bricks have various crevices and indentations, giving it "character" or something. (We didn't build the house, or pick this floor!) And they are porous, in addition to being rough and uneven. I have worn out every type of mop made trying to clean this floor. These bricks are mop-killers. The best way so far has been the old hands and knees with a large stack of old towels routine. I'm too old and too fat to crawl around like that very often. So far I've only done the area in the kitchen proper (ran out of distilled water). So I can actually compare the "before" and "after" effects of the mop. The results are very clear, and I am VERY happy! The size and shape of the mop head, coupled with the center-mount ball and socket handle, allow the mop to get into the toe kicks; the swivel action is easy, even on these uneven bricks. And the amount of dirt it pulled up was amazing. I swear, it hadn't been THAT long since I'd mopped! But the floor in the kitchen now looks better than it probably has since it was laid 30 years ago.

It does take a full tank of water to do my kitchen. I used the sanitizing feature in a couple of specific places, which used more steam. The unit does get very hot, and you will want to let it cool some before changing the covers.

A week later, I went over the whole kitchen floor, including the so-called (on the blueprint, anyway) "breakfast area". I started in the kitchen proper, where I mopped last week, and when I was through, I checked the cloth. It was a little grimy, but not much, which tells me that 1) the mop must have gotten that floor cleaner than it's ever been with regular mopping, and 2) it seems to stay cleaner longer, probably because dirt attracts dirt, so with less dirt to start with, you don't get as dirty. I used 3 covers to do the whole floor, and just a tad over a tank of distilled water. It took all three covers to clean the "breakfast area" -- which has two outside doors, to the garage and the back porch, so it was pretty grimy. WAS grimy. Now it's so clean, this old Mexican tile almost looks pretty!

Then I tried it on the laminate floors. I'm not 100% happy with the laminate floor we put in last year, because it seems to always look dusty, streaks when it's mopped, and we have yet to find a cleaner that really makes it look nice. When we first put them in, I mopped them all with a weak solution of Murphy's and water. Then I rinsed the floors with clean water, wiping them down with a towel; the old handsnknees method. BIG mistake. This put a film on the floor that nothing seemed to get up. I tried a solution of water, vinegar and alcohol, as someone suggested, and it was... better. Not great. You could still see every filmy footprint when anyone walked down the hall, and the living room, while better, still had that dusty appearance that has made me grit my teeth so hard.

The floor manufacturer warns against using steam mops, and I've seen other reviews that also warn against it. But other reviews say it works beautifully. What to do, what to do....

I did use the Bissell mop to clean one particular area (kitty had an accident) and while I it really got the area clean, I was still worried about too much water on the laminate product. So I finally just bit the bullet, crossed my fingers and used the Bissell steam mop on the floors. First I mopped a small area, maybe 5 feet long, across the hall, going with the "grain" and direction of the planks. Then I followed up with a flat mop that I got years ago from Seventh Generation that has replaceable terry-cloth covers, drying the area just mopped. I tried to regulate the steam so that it was only about half-blast, with the switch only half-depressed, to keep the floors from getting soaked. I changed the mop cloths on both the Bissell and the drying mop several times.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! For the first time, there are NO footprints or smears on the hall floor, even after several days. Finally, regular vacuuming and dust-mopping will be all the maintenance needed most of the time, as Wilsonart likes to advertise. I am finally happy we put in the laminate.

For me, the job this Bissell steam cleaner does on this horrid kitchen floor makes it well worth the price! Cleaning up the laminate was gravy. And yes, I've ditched the Murphy's!

[+] 10.0 Does the job!
After reading the reviews on steam mops (including this one), I was a little hesitant on buying one. However, we have a lot of tile, and needed something besides mop and bucket.

Assembly was pretty easy, and I was able to start mopping in a few minutes. The steam was generated quickly, and seemed to be just the right amount. For the most part, I just hold down on the trigger the entire time. Some reviews say there are pools of water left or streaking, but I didn't experience either of those effects. The tile was clean, and dried quickly.

I also bought the microfiber pads; however, they already come with the package. They are machine washable, just don't dry them in the dryer (shrinking).

[+] 8.0 Great product for those who hate mopping
This product is wonderful for those who dislike mopping. It's a quick and easy way to clean hard floors. However, it leaves streaks. If you can live with streaks more than you can live with mopping, this is the product for you! On a side note, I've used it as a spot cleaner on my carpet and it worked great for that too!

[+] 8.0 My floors and my knees thank me for buying this
In the last 15 years I have tried many mops. All of them failed to do the job I wanted in some aspect and I always went back to scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees. When I found myself putting off cleaning the floor because of the pain it caused both my knees and back, I knew I needed to look again. I did a search here on Amazon and although there were a couple with a better "Average Customer Review", none had the amount of positive reviews that this one did.

In my original purchase I bought the Bissell Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner, Green Tea and some Bissell Steam Mop Microfiber Pad Replacements. All along hoping that I wasn't making a mistake because it was a bit more expensive than some others out there.

So now that I've had it for a while, what do I think? I think it's exactly what I always wanted, but couldn't find. It's super easy to use, compact enough that storing it isn't a problem and most of all - it gets my wood floors extremely clean without the wear and tear on my body! Some other positive things about this steam mop are the fact that I'm not using chemicals, just water. The microfiber pads are also a great idea, when you're done cleaning just toss them in the wash and they're ready for next time. They seem to last quite a while too, after about 6 months I'm still using the 2 original ones it came with.

If you are like me and have always felt that nothing could come close to the clean of a floor hand scrubbing, definitely give this a shot. The price is minimal compared to the results you will get in return.

I bought this to replace a Lysol Conair which broke after 7 months and performed sub par, guess you get what you pay for. This heats up fast, is sturdy, puts out a good steam jet and has a nice this mop head that is easy to get on and off and is thick enough to get to the grout between the tiles. There might be something better out there but compared to what I wasted my money on the first time the difference is like night and day.

This product is fantastic, so easy to use on ceramic tile. The pad is washable and so no throw-aways. The water heats up in seconds.

[+] 10.0 At last - an easy way to mop floors!!!
I love this steam mop!
I've had two back surgeries, so I'm in pain most of the time. For years I've tried to find a solution to keeping my floors clean without spending the next day unable to move - at last I've found it. Now all my old mops are heading for the trash.
No more lugging pails of hot water around the house - no more scrubbing on my hands and knees - no more wringing out mops and no more stink of chemicals when I'm finally done.
My Bissell Steam Mop is a breeze! It cleans my floors beautifully, and it's light and very easy to move around. But one of the greatest things for me is that I can stop and start as I need to rest, all I do is unplug and walk away, then when I feel like carrying on, I just plug my little green beauty back in and away I go.
Even with a break or two - I have a lot of hard floors - it still takes less time than with my old mops.
And on top of that it's all done with plain water. Now how can you beat that?
By the way - it's so easy to set up that it's just as convenient as the "wet jet" type mops, for quick clean-ups.
Make life easier for yourself and buy this mop - your back will love you for it.

Cord is too short - constantly re-plugging. Falls over easily. Difficult to keep steam button pressed. I gave it away after only using it one time.

[+] 8.0 Great product for the money!
This steam mop works like a charm. And I agree with other reviews that said the only thing you need to be careful with is holding the steam button down too long because it wets the floor too much. Once you get the hang of it that's not a problem. As usual, you can't beat products with the Good Housekeeping Seal.

[+] 4.0 Messy
I am soo dissapointed with this product. I had reviewed it just to make sure that it was the right one for me. Great idea however I had to use my regular mop to clean up after the bissell. It was very messy..left water everywhere...I tried not to let out too much water...but it just didn't matter. I was kinda upset because I love the company. I am just going to save up and get one that is better.

I purchased this item to clean vinyl floors that seemed to have dirt stuck in the grooves that an ordinary mop couldn't remove. While it did remove a lot of dirt, it didn't clean the floors completely. The manufacturer does say that it won't work well if wax has been applied, and that could have been the reason. I wound up using TSP and that got the floors almost completely clean. I also used the Bissell on the cedar floor in the master BR closet. It did pick up a lot of dirt in this case and also picked up some dirt on my mother's vinyl floor that she's never waxed, so overall I'd have to rate this product with a "B."

[+] 6.0 Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner
Seems to do a good job, BUT is kind of awkward to push around. I wasn't counting on having to exert so much effort to get it moving across the floor! It does heat up quickly, and the steam lasts -- no need to do a lot of refilling (filled it up twice to get through the entire kitchen, which covers a pretty big area).

[+] 8.0 Worth the money
This cleaner was a good purchase. It is lightweight and is easy to maneuver. The floors are really clean when I am done. The cartridge holds enough water for me to clean all of the floors, which is handy. The pads hold up well with washing, and they grab a lot of dirt off the floor.

The only thing I wish it had was a longer cord. Other than that, it's great!

[+] 8.0 pretty good little machine
This machine does what it says it will. I did research before purchasing and in this price range, it's the best. I found the steam button takes awhile to get used to (it can leave the floor pretty wet) but when I was done with my bamboo floors, they looked much nicer than the spray and mop hardwood cleaner that I have been using. And it's less trouble than using the spray bottle over the entire 524 square feet of flooring! The pad went through the washer in good shape and I air dried it as recommended.

[+] 10.0 Flooring in Military Housing : Excellent Mop!
Let me set the scene: We live in military housing with the most horrendous laminate flooring you ever did see. We've been here 5 years and no amount of elbow grease or cleanser has worked on my kitchen/bathroom floors. No matter what we did or used, the floor still looked dingy. I've been trying to replace my string mop for ages, but hadn't heard of steam mops until recently. Go figure, I live under a rock.

This afternoon my Bissell arrived. I quickly put it together (super easy), swept the kitchen and entryway, and went to work. Since it's my first time using it, I took my time. I must say I am very pleased and impressed. My cheap military housing flooring actually looks clean. The mop isn't heavy, the swivel head is terrific for getting under the 3inch lip at the bottom of our cabinets, and the cord is more than long enough. Some of the reviews left me feeling that the cord might be flimsy, but it's nice and durable. Scuff marks that I haven't been able to get up for love or money, have disappeared.

Now, I'm not a slovenly housekeeper, I don't have a gourmet kitchen, and my kids are in their early teens. I loved that I could steam the areas where I keep the dog and cat bowls and the trash can. My laundry room looks great. Our entryway is made out of a dark grey stone type tile. This works well on that too.

Cons: None so far. The tank size is a good one, cuts down on heft. My floors actually dry quite a bit faster with this mop than with the old string mop. There is no streaking or dullness. I felt it with my hand and it doesn't feel filmy, but does feel clean. I am very pleased with this mop, highly recommend it, and am glad that I don't have to buy more cleaners that can't do the job on bad flooring. The only thing that could be better is to replace the flooring (not going to happen anytime soon), and I would still use this steam mop.

Two thumbs up!

[+] 6.0 Bissell vs. Shark
So I brought home both the Shark and the Bissell steam mops to test them both out on my hardwood floors and see which one I liked better. Here is what I thought:

Shark-

Pros:

~ You can see that it generates a lot of steam

~ Very easy and simple to assemble

~ Doesn't leave too much water behind (but doesn't clean anyways so I don't know if that's really a pro)
Cons:

~ Hate that the cord attached to the mop is all the way on the bottom because it gets in the way when you are mopping (The Bissell's is attached to the middle part so it doesn't get in your way)

~ The handle feels completely flimsy... I feel like it's going to break after a few uses. (The Bissell's handle feels nice and sturdy and thick)

~ Generates a lot of steam but doesn't really clean! I saw this at a store and they had a video to go with it showing the mop removing tough dirt, etc and trust me it does NOT do it in one sitting. You have to go over and over and over it to get it to even come off a little (not an exaggeration)

~ Wish the mop had a button (like the bissell) to release steam instead of having to push the handle up and down.

~ Don't like the pad... it's just a velcro pad attached to the very bottom (the bissell's pad actually looks like a nice towel wrapped around and attaches at the top)

~ Don't like that you can't just remove the water tank and fill it at the sink... instead you have to bring water to it and then pour it into the tank... kind of annoying.

~ Lots of streaking!

Bissell-

Pros:

~ Nice sturdy construction

~ Removable water tank

~ Button to release steam

~ Cleans pretty decent

~ Nice mop pad (instead of cheap velcro attached pad)

~ Cord attached to middle part of mop so doesn't get in the way

Cons:

~ Leaves a good bit of water on your floor after you clean... but dries up pretty quickly. Definitely not puddles of water as some reviewers have stated.

~ Lots of streaking!

Overall-

I think steam mops are kind of overrated... but I am definitely more satisfied with the Bissell than the Shark... who knows, maybe as I use it more I won't be able to live without a steam mop.

[+] 4.0 Love it till it stops working!
This works great until the element stops working. The warranty replaced it twice b/c the new mop didn't emit steam like our first mop. We now have three mops, multiple pads and filters. The first time, steam shot out of the hole on the side. The second time, the steam wasn't enough to saturate the mop pad.
I have heard that this mop is more substantial than the Shark, which is why I like it. I used this on a medium size kitchen floor. I even used the Ionics purified water from our tap. Be prepared to buy one annually after the warranty is up. Again, love this mop until it stops working efficiently.

[+] 8.0 Easy and Convenient!
I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this mop. I had looked at the Shark in stores and couldn't bring myself to pay $99 sight unseen. After looking at the reviews for the Bissell, however, I decided to take the plunge.

I could not be happier! I assembled it immediately (assembly is very quick and easy), filled it with distilled water and away I went! I am not much of a "down-on-my-knees" scrubber but I love a clean floor. I was amazed to see stains removed that previously I was not able to get clean. I have older linoleum flooring and the Bissell gave it new life. I have a larger kitchen and I never had to move the plug I could reach all the way around. The swivel head is perfect for corners and around the toilet. I was slightly concerned about the comments about the wetness of the floor afterward. Now that I've used it I can see how it could be problematic for hardwood but I didn't feel like the floor was any wetter than traditional mopping or using the Swiffer wet pads. I did notice the dullness and streaking that some people complained about. This can be remedied by drying the floor after mopping but it goes away quickly enough just by walking on it. I have five cats and two dogs and the kitchen is the main thoroughfare through my house so it acquires a lot of dirt. I have never seen my floor so clean as after using this mop.

The only reason I gave this mop a four out of five is due to it's performance on textured flooring. I work at a veterinary hospital and I thought it would be perfect for cleaning up after messy animals since it worked so great at my home. The floor there has a slight bumpy texture and I found that it just wouldn't move across the floor. It kept stopping and the head would flip upward so I had to keep constant downward pressure to prevent that from happening. I don't think any other steam mop would perform any differently, I just feel if you have any roughness or texture to your floor you might want to stick with old-fashioned mopping and not get a steam mop at all.

Otherwise great product and I can't wait to mop again!

[+] 8.0 So far, so good!
I am a mom of 14 children, so my floor gets very dirty, very often. I had seen the Shark mop on TV and wanted to give it a try. I did my research on here and too many reviews said it was flimsy and quit working after about 3 mon. While hardly any reviews of the Bissell said that it had quit working on them (although to be honest many were like me and were reviewing it after only a short time of having it), they did say it was sturdier, but left more water on the floor than they would like. Since I knew I would be giving this mop more use than the average person, I chose to get the Bissell even though the floor didn't dry almost immediately like the Shark Mop, a feature which was highly desirable in my book. I have had the mop for a couple of weeks now and I have to say, so far so good. I like the way it works. It gets even dried on spills up easily. It doesn't leave my floor as wet as my old mop, but it does not dry almost instantly. I use it almost every single day, so I'm hoping it will last me long enough to get my money's worth and justify replacing it, only time will tell. I did purchase the Tersano Lotus pads which another reviewer said would fit it, even though it's not made for the Bissell. They do fit and they work just as good as the pads that come with it. When I first used it, it tended to leave a film on my tile, but I think that is due more to the pads than the mop. I put just a little vinegar in my water and that seems to help. Not sure how this will affect the mop over time. My one complaint about this mop is that while it will get underneath cabinet edges, it will not fit under the edge of my fridge and in the corners like I would like it to because the head is too thick. I keep my microfiber mop handy to do those areas before doing the rest of the floor. I read the Shark mop head does not swivel as does the Bissell, a feature that is a must! Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and if it lasts long enough, I'll buy another when it quits!

[+] 10.0 Love this mop!
I would definatly recommend this mop to anyone. I always use distilled water so the filter will last longer, and I've never had any problems with it. I love that I'm just using water to clean my floor and there is no soapy residue left behind on my tile. It leaves my floor feeling smooth and clean under my feet.
