[+] 10.0 vacuum is compact and powerful
vacuum is compact and powerful. The unit is great for cars, and other hard to reach places.
We are very happy with the product and the vendor.

[+] 8.0 Great handvac!
Overall I'm very happy w/ this purchase. The handvac has great suction and has no problems picking up crumbs, hair, paperclips etc. The added pivoting nose makes it easier to work around objects or when bending down to get something on the floor.

The downside that I have is with the charger. The base itself is just a plastic shell that isn't very sturdy. If you have it on carpet it's just fine but watch out if you have it sitting on the floor as that base will move around on you.

The base does a fairly poor job at holding the attachments and I've had the attachments fall out too many times to count. So much so I just keep them in a seperate drawer somewhere and they never end up getting used.

If they could improve the base I'd be really happy w/ this product but it's still the best handvac I've owned.

[+] 8.0 hand held vac
this is more powerful than I had expected and is easy to use, charge, etc. but it is still not as powerful as a corded vacuum. It is absolutely wonderful for the interior of my car, but it doesn't have the power to clean my stair carpet runner beneath the brass rods on each step.

[+] 10.0 Powerful Hand Vac
This is a powerful hand vac. It's a bit heavy, but it has good suction as long as it's fully charged.

The charge runs down fairly fast when it sits around. Otherwise it works well. It's easy to clean and reasonably easy to store because the nozzle pivots under the vac.

B&D used to make a lot of good dust busters. Now this is the only one they have that like isn't junk.

[+] 8.0 A good experince for a first time buyer.
Ive never owned a hand-vac prior to this Black and Decker so I dont have a wealth of comparison to give. Despite that the experience so far has pointed to a good purchase.

The Good
- Solid, weighty feel.
- Ergonomic and intuitive design. Easy to operate and maintain by all ages without even touching the manual.
- Powerful, consistent suction. The first power rating, of two, is enough for most everything.
- Easy to empty.

The Difficult
- It is a solid item, the motor and battery making it fairly heavy for children and the advanced elderly.
- Loud while in use but a good indicator of a low battery as the sound starts to fade rapidly.
- Easy to empty but messy to clean properly, including emptying the reusable filter.
- Be careful of the canister door. Ive not had this happen but were the vac to fall from your hand when the door is open I can definitely see it snapping from its plastic frame.

The Odd
- The rotating nozzle is a good option to have available, adjusting to a wide range of angles. On the other hand...theres -nothing- to stop the debris youve just sucked up from falling out again. And this can easily happen when the nozzle is tucked to the underside of a somewhat full vac.
- The two included nozzle attachments (an angle and brush tip) are essentially useless.
- Replacing the battery. While not hard to accomplish the requirements for doing so might turn some away.

Overall Im glad to have purchased this Black and Decker. While it has some odd issues it does its primary job very well and thats all I can really ask at this price.

Also, if you find that you like this vac there is a vehicle-ready 12 volt 'little brother' available.

[+] 10.0 Full Power Vacuum In-Hand
I was amazed at the suction power on this model. It's very portable, doesn't seem to loose power even after 10-15 min sucking up dust all over the house. It even has two modes on the switch - powerful and super power. Maybe I'm used to Dustbuster's of the 1980's but I'm very impressed with this hand vac. Great all over the house, in the car and have even taken it to the office to clean up around computer equipment, etc.

[+] 10.0 Great Vac
This has great suction power. It picks up everything. I like the cyclonic action. It is easy to empty and clean. Just keeping fingers crossed that the battery will last. Past Black and Decker dust buster batteries have not lasted that well. This is an 18 volt battery so it has more than the usual power. At this moment, I would say it is worth while to purchase.

[+] 8.0 Powerful with Good Battery Life
Powerful(this is not your mother's handheld) with excellent battery life. To be honest, I've never found much use for the pivot feature. The long nose does make it easy to reach places you couldn't otherwise reach with most vacuums. I love these powerful, portable, handhelds for quick pickups without dragging out the larger vacuum. I have 3 different brands/varieties each of which has its good and bad points.

Pros:
(1) Very strong suction. Really gets the dirt up

(2) Excellent battery life. Lasts much longer than I would have expected even when left off the cradle

(3) Long thin nose reaches places others cannot

(4) Very good filter design. Traps a lot of fine dust

(5) Easy to place on cradle and remove. The unit just sits on a contact in the base of its cradle. It doesn't have to 'click' or lock in place as some do; therefore, it can be easily removed with one hand. Just pick it up and go.

Cons:

(1) The long, thin nose will not accomodate some items: paper, leaves, etc. Depending on size, some items will not enter the nose at all due to size.

(2) Items other than sand, dust, dirt, etc will often get trapped in the long thin nose chute blocking it. When this happens, you will need to stop work to find something long and thin (clothes hanger, drinking straw, chopstick, etc to push the item through) This can be annoying. Things that get caught this way include leaves, pine straw, bits of paper or tissue, pretty much anything except dirt and dust.

(3) dust, debris, pet hair, etc tends to wad up around the filter area so that you cannot just open the door to empty it as stated. More often than not you will have to use your fingers to pull the [icky] stuff out of there. In the process, dust and debris is likely to end up falling back on the floor.

(4) accessories (carpet brush, etc) fit on the base unit not the vacuum. If you carry the thing any distance from the base and then find that you need an accessory, you have to go back and get it which is annoying. (Please find a place to put these things on the vacuum!)

(5) not the best for use on carpet. The Shark SV736K with motorized brush which I also own does a much better job on carpet, especially for picking up pet or people hair.

Summary:

I like this vacuum. I use it often, mostly on hard floors, and would readily recommend it to a friend. When I need to clean carpet, however, I use my Shark handheld with motorized brush except in the car where the long nose of this vacuum comes in very handy for getting into tight spots.

[+] 6.0 After 1 year, not holding a charge very well
I've been using this handvac for about a year now and I have LOVED it up until this point. Lately, it hasn't been holding a charge very well like it used to. It is still serving it's purpose, so I'm not getting rid of it, but it doesn't have the power it used to. I have pet birds and have to use this thing on a daily basis to pick up seed and feathers. I don't agree with what some others have said about the filter getting clogged. Maybe if you don't empty it regularly that would be an issue. Anyway, if it weren't for the issue of it losing it's charge after a year of use, I would give this 5 stars.

[+] 10.0 18 Volt Handheld Vacuum
This Black & Decker cordless, 18 volt, pivoting-nose vacuum is the best I have tried so far. Though it is a little heavy; it more than compensates for that with its powerful suction. It has useful attachments and a pull-out nose extension to get into tight places and corners. Well worth the price.

[+] 10.0 May as well be a vacuum cleaner
This thing really may as well be a vacuum cleaner its so powerful and efficient. Based on my last two dustbusters I really came to not expect much from them and rarely saw the benefit except for some circumstances. This thing has completely replaced most of the reasons I would pull out my full-size vac.

It is BETTER than the vac for the ruglines at the walls, and it pulls dirt, hair, and whatever else from behind couch cushions with ease. The button that locks the nozzle in position is really a good asset as it provides structural integrity when sweeping behind cushions as you don't want it flapping around.

A minor point is the brush attachment could be improved to actually lock in with some sort of release mechanism. It is necessary to remove pet hair but can tend to pull out on retreating strokes with the vac. It is still very workable though.

It is loud, but correlates to power. My last buster was quiet and ineffective. You will find yourself carrying it around to spot-check the rug, sucking tracked in debris practically off the floor without making contact. You don't really even have to bend over all the way or commit to a spot. Just point and shoot as you're walking by. I'm very pleased.

Purchased at Lowe's for $59.

[+] 10.0 The best DUSTBUSTER EVER
I've had several of these things. This one is the first to have great suction, an easy to clean container, and a decent design. Charging time is reasonable. The charge lasts a good long time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I love the pivoting nozzle design and retractable tube. It gets in narrow tight places easily.

Buy this for your friends and family. They'll thank you later!

[+] 8.0 Handy, and fun to use
The design is unique, and so is the functional pivoting nose, which can even be extended. I like the turbo power option, too. It's a little messy emptying the dirt compartment, and a nuisance washing the filter; but overall I recommend this useful household gadget. It's the best handheld vac I have ever owned.

[+] 10.0 Awesome product
I love this vacuum. It folds up to be compact and fits right in a recharging unit. So it is ready whenever you need it. Additionally, it has a filter system that you simply open and empty. You do not need any vacuum bags. I use it every day! You will love it as much as I do.

[+] 4.0 High volt; low battery & filter
The pivoting nose cordless vacuum is cleverly designed. The nose swivels to reach difficult spots. It folds up neatly for charging and storage. Unfortunately, it takes 16 hours to charge! Because the filter traps so much dirt and stuff (that's good), it rapidly loses vacuuming power and burns through the battery power quickly (those are bad). If I had to buy it again, I would not.

[+] 8.0 A Flaw You Should Know About!
While this is certainly a powerful little hand-held, cordless vacuum, it does have an annoying flaw: When you pick up small items like pet food or popcorn kernels they always come rolling out again unless you hold the vacuum tube at an upward angle. If I'm in a hurry, or tilting the vacuum to empty the dustbin, inevitably some nuggets roll out and I must either suck them up again or pick them up by hand -- which defeats the purpose.

I am going to try the Dyson.

[+] 10.0 A portbale vacuum with power
I have finally found a portable vacuum that has power! It picks up pet hair without any trouble at all! It has an easy discharge for dumping the vacuum contents and is extremely easy and quick to use. The charging holder allows for a full charge each and every time you use it!

[+] 10.0 Finally!!!!
Finally a decent hand vac! I don't understand the negative reviews--I love this product. I own several birds and use this several times every day. Sometimes I even use it to quickly clean out the bottom of a bird cage. Feathers, seed, bird droppings--no problem for this vac. It can even pick up small toy parts, beads, etc. I am planning to buy one or two more and keep them throughout my house for even more convenience. The sound from the motor doesn't bother me. What vacuum doesn't make noise?? Thank-you Black & Decker.

[+] 4.0 Looks great, but go with platinum.
not worth the purchase. Although it looked like a great idea, the nose was to small for chips and other items around by kids. The catch bay was also to small. In addition it seems that all B&D vacs have a poor system to close the main section off from the intake. Its a small rubber valve system usually based on a flimsy plug and hole system. This is always the first thing to break during cleaning out inside main section. Go with the platinum if you need something sturdy.

[+] 10.0 How did I live without this vac?
Let's see: I have a long haired dog who is currently blowing coat for summer; there are multiple crumbs at any one time on my table, kitchen counter and glass top stove; I leave long blonde hair all over the bathroom.... the list goes on. I love this cordless Black & Decker hand vacuum. The charger sits on the floor in our spare bedroom next to an outlet, and the vacuum keeps a charge for quite some time. Easy to empty out, and it's not too obnoxiously loud when running. Highly recommended.

[+] 10.0 Excellent, well designed vacuum
This vacuum is powerful and very well thought out. The pivot/narrow nozzle really does get into tight spots much better than the old wedge styles. The dial really works to knock dust off the filter - I tested by emptying the dirt chamber, then turning the dial a few times, then emptying again to see how much extra dirt came out. That means you can go longer without washing the filters. So far I haven't had to after 2 months. I use this vacuum mainly for cleaning the sofa, picking up scattered kitty litter, the car, and cleaning up crumbs in the kitchen.

I do wish it came with an attachment that had a wide broom-type nozzle that would be useful for getting kitty litter from around the litter box without having to go back and forth so many times. But that's the same with all hand vacs I have used - narrow nozzle path.

The suction is powerful, the noise is equivalent to any other handheld vac I have used.

Anyone considering this product should watch the Popular Mechanics video - it convinced me:

[+] 10.0 love this thing
I had completely forgotten about 'Dust Busters'. I hadn't thought about them since around 1989 when my family had one hanging inside the broom closet, and they've definitely come a long way since then. Now that I have a one year old who throws her Cheerios on the ground and stomps them into the rug, I realize how useful a Dust Buster can be. I really wanted the Dyson hand held vac, because it looks so cool; and it's so powerful. But all the reviews confirm that it's totally impractical with only a 6 minute battery life before needing a recharge. This Black & Decker 18-Volt Pivoting-Nose Handheld Vac hasn't ceased to amaze me. As weird as the Pivoting-Nose feature seemed to me at first, it has been very useful in different 'hard to reach' situations. And it's great that it folds underneath into such a compact position for charging. It is more powerful than necessary, I typically use it on the lesser of the two power settings; only for bigger messes will I use the higher power setting. The power charge lasts very long; I haven't timed it but I've never run out before getting the job done. My only complaint is the emptying procedure isn't the cleanest process, but I might be doing something wrong. All in all it's a very useful tool and gets the job done every time. Thank goodness the Dust Buster is making a come back; it's a beautiful thing.

[+] 8.0 Very powerful but loud and hard to empty!
I really love this handless vacuum. It's attractive and incredibly powerful. The battery lasts very long time after a complete charge. I disconnect the charger after a full charge (to preserve battery life and efficacy)and the charge lasts a few weeks!

I have pets and this device is indispensable for vacuuming cat hair, bird feathers/dust, and much more.

My only complaints are:

1) The vacuum's cannister is a bit hard (and messy) to empty. I find myself having to use fingers to empty it, and that's kind of gross.

2) It's very LOUD! Every time I use it my pets get scared!

Despite these two factors, I feel that this hand vac is the best one I've ever owned. It's super powerful!!

Black & Decker 18-Volt Pivoting-Nose Cordless Handheld Vacuum

What doesn't this little guy have?

I hate dust, crumbs, dead bugs, hair strands that have shed, grass or leaves that may stick to stilettos, little things that visiting babies find then fling to the floor, and all other mysterious (and possibly unseen) things flopping and dropping from the air to hard wood floors, lovely forest green short-fiber carpets and white sheepskin rugs. You know! Wheewhh!

I have had two of the metallic blue corded hand vacs. The first one was great, but the second never picked up unless you took the hose loose and used it moving over the carpeting half-dollar spot by half-dollar spot. How tiresome! Then I got the corded bright yellow hand vac that was a good sucker but so hard to maneuver across carpeting that I seriously contemplated physical therapy for both arms! I had another, forgettable, hand vac that stopped holding a charge two weeks or so after purchase. How utterly yukky!

I would, to be frank, put Pivoting-Nose up against the over-promoted Dyson Animal. I am one who thinks the only thing impressive about Animal is the name! I came to see it as nothing more than an over-priced, glorified, purple, hard plastic broom!

I think this little Pivoting-Nose, however, is unmitigatedly divine and so downright sporty! I really, really like that fresh, airy blue and white.

The suction nose folds up like flap mobile phones, but does it better. It snaps into place at various degrees until it extends and holds at 180 degrees.

The long nose hides the crevice tool except for the tip on which I just push down slightly and pull to extend. The tool then grabs up every little critter around the edges of armoires, partner desks, scanners, shredders, pool tables, escritoires, books stacked on the floor, car seats, every where! Oh, how wonderful!

And, there is a clear dust bin, so I can see the dust - carrying nasty, voracious mites - whirling around as Pivoting-Nose picks up every little, itty-bitty something that I don't want around! He is so splendiferous!

Emptying the Pivoting-Nose is all ease. I simply push the little silver release, turn the vac on its side over a trash bin, and pull the door free.

I don't think how the charger hangs is a vexation. As a matter of fact, I whipped out my "duflotcy" - ahem, my power drill - and put the thing up myself, a first for me. I was so proud!

I haven't done so yet, but I don't think there will be a problem changing the filter, either.

Now, the battery one of the reviewers mentioned is a whole 'nother thing! I have never before changed a hand vac battery. It is something to think about as Pivoting-Nose might give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money! (Thanks, Reviewer!)

I also got Pivoting-Nose's brother, the corded one. It is a very similar design with a slightly wider nose, but it is also superb. I keep it under my bed.

Somebody at B&D was thinking logically while someone added delightful dashes of creativity. They have unquestionably put forth a redoubtable product!

I am 67 years old and find this vacuum too heavy for me to handle as I have arthritis in both of my wrists. I have to hold it with both hands and this is also hard to do. I also don't think it picks up dog hair like I wanted it for. I wanted it to mainly clean my car since I bring my dog with me. In fact if it is not too late I am going to be looking into returning this product.

[+] 10.0 Works Fine... Clever Design.
Battery will run about 10 to 12 minutes continuously on high before dying, depending on intensity of use. I used it on the car interior and was amazed how much fine dirt it pulled out of the carpets and mats. Filters seem to trap stuff quite well and it is easy to empty. Filters are easy to remove and rinse clean with tap water. Too bad the battery isn't replaceable, as that will be the end of it... two year warranty, though.

[+] 10.0 Excellent performer on dog hair
I have four big dogs and rely upon this machine to keep me sane. I use it for touch-up after my Roomba runs (a daily occurrence).

I give it a five thought it does occasionally clog with dog hair. I gets my five because it is easy to see that it is clogged (look down the snout) and to unclog: I just stick a long flat tool like a breadknife down the snout and push the wad of dog hair through.

[+] 2.0 A big, loud, heavy disappointment
If you don't want to waste your time reading my review here, just look at any of the other 1- and 2-star reviews on this site, which all basically state how I feel about this piece of junk. Wear your ear plugs while you use it, and remember that louder doesn't necessarily equal better. A horrible design concept -- as several other reviewers have mentioned, cat litter rarely makes it up the nozzle and into the cylinder, which, as several other reviewers also mentioned, is a royal pain to empty and clean. I wish that I could return it, but alas, the box has been discarded. If I lose one of my 5-lb hand weights, this would be an acceptable substitute.

[+] 8.0 this works wonders !!!
The Black & Decker Pivoting-Nose Cordless Handheld Vacuum does an excellent job of busting away dust and small particles of dirt anyplace where a conventional vacuum cleaner can't reach or go. My vacuum cleaner does a great job on carpets and floors in general; but the narrow spaces close to where the floor meets the wall always seem to need a little extra attention. Wow, does this do an excellent job!

It's lightweight and very easy to carry. It comes with an electric charger; you'll need to charge the machine for 16 hours before you use it for the first time. After that, you're set to go! You only need to recharge it from time to time, not every day.

This handheld vacuum will do its best in narrow cracks and crevices; and of course you can use it to clean your car interior and other surfaces, too. I would keep it away at all times from wet surfaces

The filter and the barrel in which the filter is housed are both very easy to clean. If you clean it every so often the job is never time consuming.

I also like that this comes with an even smaller extension so that you get reach into the narrowest of crevices to clean them. The HEPA filter traps over 99% of dust particles so they can't come out the exhaust of the machine just seconds after you vacuumed them up--very good!

I have a few minor complaints. If you use this in the corners where the wall meets the floor, you will have to bend over or lean down somewhat to reach those harder to clean crevices. In addition, I do agree with reviewers who note that it's built in such a way that you DO have to operate a flimsy button to merely open the extended nozzle and allow it pivot to get into those very hard to reach areas. The plastic base for storing and charging could have been better constructed, too. I guess I have to take off one star for these issues.

Nevertheless, I still recommend this "Pivoting-Nose Cordless Handheld Vacuum" by Black & Decker. It's a great little gadget.

[+] 10.0 Leave others in dust, except shark SV736N
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2I13RBYWO3GE4 This video shows how this B&D pick up flour and rice, compared to a modified Dirt Devil cordless stick (my favorite). I use total three vacuums, all are cordless: an iRobot Roomba 530 to clean the rooms, a Dirt Devil ExtremePower stick (modified) to clean stairs and spots and a Shark SV736N for computers, cars and plasma TV fans. They all do their tasks very well and quietly (compared to a corded vac). No way back to cords and vacuuming is no longer hassle but fun.

I must add: the Shark SV736N is more powerful, as loud and runs as long (10 minutes without significant power decrease), but lighter (3lb vs. 4), cheaper ($40 vs. $60) and better tool (motorized brush). The Shark is already too heavy, this B&D has crossed the line for an one-hand tool. To make this matter worse, B&D's handle is not at the weight center; your hand fatigues very soon trying to hold it level. Those said, this B&D worth the extra $20 if you value its hi-end building quality, sophisticated design, decent look, non-touch dirt removal and very nice charging dock. It is a beautiful upholstery while the Shark is just a dummy tool. See my SV736 reviews for details.

This is a great little vacuum! Lightweight, comfortable in the hand. Easy to maneuver under sofas and chairs and into corners etc with the extendable/pivoting nozzle. Really good suction for a small vacuum. Very easy to empty. I love it!

[+] 10.0 Hand Held Vac's
I ordered this model because I saw the on-line Popular Mechanics tests done on hand held vac's. This one has plenty of power. When I showed it to a friend, she bought one just like it.

[+] 8.0 it sucks - that's a good thing
Good power for a cordless handheld. Somewhat heavier than I expected, but we usually use it for quick clean-ups around the kitchen, so its weight is not much of a problem. Not as cool looking as the Dyson Rocket, but the Dyson costs way more.

[+] 8.0 Great Vacuum!
This vacuum is very powerful and holds a charge. It's rather loud, but so is my Dyson. I would definitely recommend this product!

[+] 10.0 Wonderful item
This item was recommended to me for small spills, stairs and corners that needed a quick pickup. It certainly does the job well!

Whereas previous models from this company wore down quickly and the batteries fail to hold a charge, this is different and has a nice stand that can also be hung on a wall to recharge it and you can clean for a long time before a recharge is necessary.

The styling is great and the pivoting nozzle is good design and useful

I would recommend if you want a portable cleanup device.

[+] 8.0 Good Power!!
Vac is very powerful & good on my dog's fur balls; however, I wish the suction tube was larger. Leaves and dirt have clogged up the tube on occassion. It is easy to unclog using a knife or pencil but it is a little inconvenient. Far better fur power than most hand vacs but smaller but maller suction area. I'd buy it again.
