Product Specifications

You'll get great results with this Black & Decker heavy-duty Edge Hog landscape edger, one of the easiest-to-use pieces of equipment we've come across. You'll be thrilled with how quickly you can get to work, as assembly takes only a few minutes. This is an electric model, so you'll need an extension cord and an electric outlet handy, but you won't have to deal with gas or oil. And it's so quiet you can edge at any time of day--even early Saturday mornings--without worrying about waking up the neighbors.

We found the Edge Hog has plenty of power in its 2-1/4-horsepower motor for both edging and trenching, and it's easy to switch from one to the other by simply raising or lowering the edge guide. The edger weighs only 12 pounds, which allows for easy transportation and great maneuverability around curved paths, but makes it more difficult to maintain a straight line when you're tackling a lawn that hasn't been edged in a while. If you're digging out quite a bit of dirt along with the edge you're creating, it takes some effort to keep the unit stable.

Undoing a screw toward the front of the edger and raising or lowering its leading wheel easily adjusts the depth of the edge groove you're making along with your edge. The unit can also be adjusted to fit the height of the user more comfortably by changing the angle on the guide handle. The blade requires only a pull of the trigger to start instantly and, unlike many gas models, stops as soon as the trigger is released---an important safety feature.

[+] 10.0 Buy Cheaper at Lowe's
This is a good edger if your yard isn't huge. But like my title says, buy it at Lowe's. Just got mine on Father's Day for $69. The list price on Amazon is a little ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I love Amazon and you can get some great deals but always remember to shop around for the good price.

[+] 8.0 Excellent Design
Great piece of equipment. Very well designed. 3 bolts to put it together out of the box and no tools needed. I am very pleased with its performance. I had several areas where the grass had overgrown the walk by 3 to 4 inches. In the thicker areas I had to stop occasionally and move the cuttings out of the way as they were so heavy they were blocking the guide wheels. Now that I'm finished and got the heavy work out of the way, using this again next month will be a piece of cake. My drive looks nice and neat.

[+] 2.0 If only a zero were possible
I used this edger for exactly 20 minutes and the motor burned out. The funny thing is that I got this "Edgehog" as a replacement for an old edger - a much less powerful edger - that I had used for over 10 years in the same service. This thing is perhaps the last B&D product I will ever buy.

Like an idiot I threw out the box and receipt before I used it - because after all - it's a Black and Decker and I wanted it assembled and ready to use!

No refund, no replacement. A word to the wise -- especially if buying something with this name brand -- keep your receipts.

With products such as this being put out, is there any wonder that product loyalty is a thing of the past?

[+] 6.0 Better edger than a trencher
We bought this mainly for it's bedding trencher feature. Making a defined border around our many garden beds is hard manual work. The trencher feature on the Edge Hog merely cuts an edge rather than a wider cut I wanted for the beds to keep the grass from encroaching.
It does work nocely though as an edger.

[+] 10.0 Cutting Edge
The Edge Hog by Black and Decker worked very well for me. I had several years of thick over growth around my driveway, and this thing just tore through it. Plus, my driveway seems to have sunk a bit, meaning my yard looks like it's elevated an inch or two above the pavement. The Edge Hog was able to cut through both the grass and the soil and still made that little trench along the edge of the pavement. My edges now look very clean and manicured.

The only downside to my experience was the fact that I had to buy an extra extension cord in order to get to the far end of my yard to do the curb (I live on a corner lot). Otherwise, I was very pleased with the edger's performance.

The blade is now worn down significantly, but as I said I had quite a big job to do. I think now that the hard part is done, the remaining blade will last a while. Maintaining the edges shouldn't take nearly as much effort. The overgrowth was so heavy it was difficult to actually find the edge of the pavement, so I had a tendency to grind the blade against the pavement (a good way to wear down your blade).

Assembly was easy. All you have to do is attach the handle and put the pole together. The blade and wheels are already on there. It's not too heavy to carry around, but it has enough weight to stay in place and dig where you want it to. This is my first edger, and it's definitely a keeper.

[+] 8.0 The Electric Edger that Works
The Black & Decker LE750 is a very nice machine. I found it to require a very short learning curve and worked very nicely on our lawn (read the manual). The lawn has lots of concrete to edge around the driveway, front patio and the back patio and pool with lots of curvature and corners. The lawn had a bit of overgrowth over the concrete and that requires a little more attention and care. I recommend it highly.

[+] 10.0 OMG! Great tool
Been using the attachment weedeater edger. Killed my back for years. I'm over 6' 2" and the weedeater version killed my back and took almost two hours to edge with. This Black Decker version did it in 45 mins and better. It was a heck of a lot easier to use. Wish I bought sooner!

[+] 10.0 Great Edger
I have a lot of edging to do (corner lot, public sidewalks set in on both sides, driveway, my sidewalks, patio), and needed something that would withstand being used every week. As much as I didn't want to be dragging around 100 feet of extension cords, the fact is electric edgers have much greater continuous power than gas edgers. I picked one of these up when I bought my house, and have been pleased ever since. The blades easily last a season (I can usually get them to last a season and a half), and the adjustable height lets you edge nice and deep. I haven't used it as a trencher for my beds, but I imagine it would do the job quite well.

[+] 10.0 powerful, have to get used to it
This is a very powerful edger, easy to set up out of the box, with good settings for depth, and does a very good job in my yard and gardens. I had a little trouble getting precision edge-lines since I was used to a single-wheel model that has been discontinued. This three-wheel model works great on straight-away edges, but is harder to use on curves. I discovered that if you tilt the edger slightly forward onto the single front wheel, you can get much better control, and the tight curves are much easier. I would like Black & Decker to make a battery powered cordless model just like this one since keeping the cord out of the way is a chore, and B&D makes excellent cordless tools.

[+] 2.0 Cheap and poor design
This is an edger that will work great for maybe a season. Pay extra and buy a better edger from any other company.

My edger seems to have one fatal flaw. The unit tends to overheat. The brushings are held in with plastics. Run the unit hard for a bit on a summer day and the motor melts.

I smelled more burning plastic then cut grass when using this unit. The motor lasted long enough to show some spectacular sparks. If the grass was dry this would have been a fire hazard.

The repair costs about $20 for new brushings and shipping. They were out of stock and I had to back order. Few weeks later I had two new tiny bits of plastic attached to a thin strip of metal.

I cleaned the unit (disassembled and cleaned the blade) and was careful to run the unit for no more than a few minutes at a time with rests in between. The second set of brushings failed after a few uses. I gave up and have gone back to a 20 year old rusted edger that still soldiers on.

This will be the nicest looking piece of trash that I'll have had the pleasure of disposing of.

[+] 4.0 Not as good as previous versions
Let's start off with the good:
-Well powered
-Easy assembly
-Simple and effective cord retainer

The bad:
-I'm 6'2" and have to stoop to use it. It's made for someone about 5'10" max.
-The edge guide does not follow the concrete. You have to use the left hand handle to pull the edger to the side so it stays in a straight line. So now I'm stooping and applying a force perpendicular to the direction I'm going.
-If the edge guide happens to follow the concrete, the blade is spaced so far from it, that it doesn't catch everything and you have to go back and forth over it until you randomly get it.
-I've been hanging it by the handle in my garage and the plastic is cracking under it's own weight.

[+] 10.0 Exceeded my expectations!
I am amazed how well this little machine can cut through the toughest overgrowth (6") on my driveway. I had no problem handling it. I was looking at gas edgers, and am so glad I bought this model. Just make sure you buy plenty of electric cord.

[+] 10.0 perfect for what we need
This edger works great and is inexpensive. Easy to assemble and sturdy enough to do the job. We had not edged for a while because we didn't have an edger. Used a weed eater instead to try to edge. First we found out that we had lost about 6 inches of driveway because of overgrown grass and second we realized we could not get as clean an edge as we did with this edger. It took awhile to initially edge since we were cutting so much grass but it was well worth it.

[+] 8.0 Works really well...
I have used this product only once and it is far superior to the Ryobi that I had before it. It is easy to use and works very well. I use it on a small lawn but due to the electric cord attached to it I don't think it would be appropriate for a large lawn. My only concern is how well it will hold up over time. I had another Black and Decker product (a hedge cutter) and it was flimsy. I think that people who buy this product will find that it is good value for the money.

It is not as easy to use as I expected but it does a fine job edging tough areas. The difficulty is in getting it lined up correctly so that you are cutting at the right place. This needs to be improved. It is easy to assemble.

[+] 10.0 Black and DeckerEdge Hog
I had never owned an edger until I bought this one. Me and my wife had always used a hole to edge with. Boy waht a difference the edger made. What had been a chore for years turned out to be a short and sweet job to get the edging done and it looks a whole lot better than using a HOE. Thisedger works great and Iam going to use it for my flower beds and plan to use it to dig me a little trench to put in some lighting alon our side walk.

[+] 10.0 Excellent product for the price.
Although I have only used this tool for a few hours, my impression is that I will get a lot of good use out of it. Even at the end of an 150' extension cord there is plenty of power to handle the toughest jobs I could throw at it. There is no gas to mix, no cranking to mess with - just plug in and go. The adjustments are easy, the guide plate is excellent and I found it very easy to keep the blade away from the sidewalk and driveway.

My daughter also one and she is very pleased with its ease of use and durability.

[+] 10.0 Great Edger for Small Yards
Electric edgers have traditionally been the laughing stock of the landscaping world - but this one breaks that tradition. I have been using it for about a year now and it still does a great job. A few notes - Only use it when it is bone dry outside. If you try and use it after watering your lawn or after a rain mud will clump inside the edger and clog it up, resulting in you having to pull out large mud clumps from inside the edger every few feet. I have also found the first edge of the season, or the first time you use it if you haven't ever edged your lawn, can be challenging for you and the edger - but after that this edger can help you maintain your clean edge with ease.

In the end this is an electric edger that requires an electrical cord, so I could only recommend this for personal use on smaller residential lots. However for the average homeowner this is perfect.

[+] 10.0 Long time user - Happy with edger
I highly recommend this edger. I purchased my electric B&D Edge Hog in 2005 and decided to finally write a review on it.

I have been very satisfied with the product. I use it about 8-10 times a year. I live in Florida and have St. Augustine grass which is a southern species very similar to crabgrass in the northern states. It is tough. Many of the roots grow horizontally on the surface of the soil and creep over pavement edges. Trimming them is a challenge that the B&D edger handles quite well. Some escape the first slice, but backing over them usually wins the battle.

The guide works well for straight stretches of curbing/pavement, but the rounded portions are more of a challenge. Other than a few sparks, it does these with a few back and forth movements. I am still using the original blade, so nothing has been a serious problem. Compared with the manual edgers which you have to push hard and fast, this small electric model is a dream.

I have also used it to dig small trenches when I wanted to install some low pressure plastic pipe for watering a flower garden. The edger dug out a nice little trench that I could push the pipe into and then re-cover with soil and let the grass grow over it.

For the price, this edger is great for smaller, personal use. If I had a large area, I would get a larger, gas powered unit, but with my needs, this has been perfect.

[+] 10.0 Worked Great
I've been trying to do this edging thing with a trimmer for 2 years now and never got very far. Always thought these edger people were fanatics until I had to shovel snow and realized there was a good reason for doing it. Divorce is such a lovely teacher . . .

Finally broke down and bought this, don't really like the cord, but didn't want to mess with mixing oil and gas, and I guess rechargeables aren't an option for something needing this much power.

Didn't really know what I was doing, though I got the hang of it in the end. I read the instructions but didn't do it for about a month after that. I had to switch the handle to the other side and stand to the right of it so I could see--which I think the instructions probably told me, but I forgot.

Once I got going, it was great. I did my driveway and the sidewalks all around my corner lot. Then I did the neighbors' driveways, which were much more overgrown than mine. Got through most of it, including the strips in between with weeds growing in them. That was the trickiest, a few sparks, well, a lot sometimes. Good thing I bought an extra blade up front :). I'm very satisfied. I could never have done it without this tool. It took much less time than I expected . . . until I hit the nasty neighbor's overgrown mess :).

I recommend this product. Happy edging.

[+] 8.0 edger review
The edger seems to work fine. I bought it to replace a much more difficult one to use, a gas-powered one from Sears. Even though it is electric and using a cord is somewhat more restrictive, it does a good job and is easy to use.

[+] 10.0 Great and reliable
This was our second purchase of this edger. Our first edger lasted over 8 years and was used and abused until it finally gave up. After looking for other edgers, especially those without electrical cords we came back to this one. It is easy to use, not too large and not heavy. The only drawback is the cord, but compared to the weight and size of gas edgers the cord is minimal.

[+] 6.0 Edger Ok but not great.
This edger' wide housing makes it difficult to see where to line up the guide to the concrete walk when edging the lawn. It does not hold the guide as well as past products. You must set it on the mid to deepest setting to not keep getting off line.

I have owned two previous Black and Decker electric edgers. Each of them were out of commision and not worth fixing after about 25 Months. OF COURSE, THEY WERE WARRANTED FOR 24 MONTHS. AND BLACK AND DECKER HAD NO SYMPATHY IF THEY WENT OUT AN HOUR AFTER 24 MONTHS. Of course this one is likewise a 24 month guaranty.

[+] 10.0 Works very well and a great price
I wanted an edger that was moderately priced and did a decent job of edging. I was looking at the electric edgers since I didn't think I'd be using it that much and frankly using an extension cord is not that big of a deal to me.

It's extremely easy to put together, all you have to do is put two screws in and you're done. Be prepared however, the first time you use is will be the most difficult. After using it for the first time this past weekend, I found that the grass along the side of my driveway had grown over about 2 to 3 inches in most spots. I had to go over the same spot a couple of times so it could cut the sheer amount of grass that was over the edge of the driveway.

Once I got that part out of the way I feel it will be very easy to use since the grass will never be overgrown like that ever again. You can trust the reviews for this product, it's very easy to use and works very well. It's not underpowered at all and cut through 3 inches of grass during my use.

Everything arrived on time; the only problem was that the package was left at the wrong address. It took me less them 5 minutes to assemble the edger. I had no problems edging my lawn, Edger worked like a charm. I'll be trying out the trencher portion this coming weekend, will give feed back them.

[+] 8.0 Eager Edger
It does a great job for an electric edger. Before purchasing this edger, I did not edge my lawn for 5 years. The edger was able to cut through the turf with only minor difficulties. It did at one point start to overheat at a really thick muddy portion of the turf. I would not recomend an electric edge if you have a large corner lot, because the cord can be a hassle. Over all it does a great job. Go Cubs!!!

[+] 8.0 Look, it works...
I have St. Augustine grass, and this thing gets the job done quickly and cleanly. It's like any other piece of gear: you have to figure out how it works, what it does well, and how to take advantage of its strengths.
1. Plenty of power
2. Easy to control
3. Effective at making a clean, straight cut
If it doesn't make the edge you want with just one pass, so what? Move it forward two feet, back one foot--nice cut. Moving it forward and back gives you a clear sight on what it's doing and the results are fine. I have a couple hundred feet of edging on my front yard and I can do the whole job in maybe 20 minutes tops. Looks great. Do I have to bend down sometimes and pull out a runner that doesn't get cut? Yes. Is this a problem? No. It beats the heck out of trying to get a clean, even, straight job with a string trimmer. Just be careful with it, take your time. Your yard will look great. And the price now is better than at HD or Lowe's. Go for it!

I have had this less than 6 months. The blade does not penetrate enough depth to properly cut a decent edge. Perhaps the blade is dulled as others comment in this thread. Currently, I have to go over it 2-3 times waisting my valuable time. I can not recommend this unit. Good Luck if you buy it. Funny thing is the B&D rep who was in the isle at Lowe's gave great assistance and also commented to the fact that blades are available. LOL.............

This edger is a winner. I got it to replace my old fish-line weed whacker that I used as an edger. From bending over, my back was killing me. This edger is a worthy successor. It's comfortable (right height and adjustable), it gets the job done very well (my lawn looks great), and the powerful circular saw motor works unchallenged. [+] 10.0 Edge Hog works; I don't!
I was mowing lawns for neighbors about 1950, and did the edging with a spade and an old bayonet. Twenty years later I was a homeowner, edging my own lawn with a manual (push and grunt) edger that worked as well as the spade and bayonet, but with less time and effort from me. Ten years after that, I graduated to a string trimmer, and was able to groom my lawn with much less effort, although much more dirt and noise. Then I ordered the Edge Hog - great results - literally a walk in the park - no backache - little noise, and the most work involved is winding up my 100 foot cord!

I would give it more stars if I had the option!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[+] 6.0 Deep clean cut - not quite
First some background. I have a standard size residential yard in the Dallas suburbs with bermuda grass. It has been 3 weeks since I edged the yard. I tend to go through string trimmers/edgers every other year or so, just about the time the warranty ends. Either the thing eats strings like crazy or refuses to feed any out. I tried buying this edger from Amazon a couple of weeks ago but one of my packages made it to my house and for some reason, this one was returned to Amazon refused. Anyway, yesterday I found it on sale at Home Depot for $79.99 and figured with tax it was a wash.

My main goal is get a nice clean cut between the cement of the driveway, alley and sideway and the grass. I extended the edge guide to the lower position as recommended and proceeded along. To my surprise the edger was only about 85 percent efficient in removing the grass. At first I just reached down and pulled some stubborn-to-let-go grass but got annoyed at having to do so. I then went over the same area again, causing sparks along the way as the blade occasionally hit the cement. I suspect the edge guide prevents the blade from getting close enough to the cement. In any event I had to clean-up after using the edger with a string trimmer, which to me sort of defeated the purpose of buying it in the first place. This is my first time using this edger and maybe next go round I'll get better at it.

Another minor issue I have is that at the start from a corner the wheels of the edger prevent the blade from cutting the first few inches.

I am giving 3 stars mainly because I am hoping that my skill/talent/luck played a part in the poor performance. There have been a lot of great reviews of the LE750 so I am crossing my fingers that this is the case.

After using the edger a couple more times I would give the product 2 stars had I to do it again. I put the edger in trencher mode which seemed to help some. The thing is, I bought the edger to replace the trimmers I was using for this work. Since I still need to touch up with a trimmer my objective was not met. Guess I'll need to live with buying a new trimmer every other year or so.

[+] 10.0 This is a great product!
When our Crafstman edger wore out, we looked at offerings from several manufacturers including Craftsman. This Black & Decker edger is 'way above the rest of the pack. Easy to use, multi-purpose...a bonus with the trencher and it works right. Price was great and delivery was right on time.
