[+] 10.0 Great Fun!
I'm so glad I bought this weed trimmer.
I have quite a large lot and this trimmer is perfect for me.
I keep both batteries charged and get about 20 minutes per battery.
That is plenty of time for me.........that way I don't overdo.
Great purchase.

[+] 6.0 Good for small jobs
I do not think this model was ever designed for a large job/area or tough weeds/grass. I find it has it place as a touch-er upper when you don't want to deal with a long extension cord or the heavy duty "artillery" gas and oil high horse power week eater. For the right light trimming job it is very convenient.

[+] 8.0 Product is as ordered
The product arrived as ordered. It is a reconditioned model but it appears to be a brand new trimmer. It came with two batteries and both have charged appropriately. Because we still have a few feet of snow, I can't state how well it trims but will know in a few months!

Good value for the product and it was free shipping! I'm satisfied so far.

[+] 10.0 Perfect for Women who Want to Trim
I have used a gas trimmer years ago and recall trying to pull the cord to get it to start. Not good for someone with a bad back. I love this trimmer. I have had it for over a season and it works great on my pseudo landscaped quarter acre. Don't expect it to do well on very thick stalks or "weed whacking" as we call it on the farm, but it's great for small trimming. Girls, if you have a husband, make him decide on which trimmer to buy but for yourself, you will love this. I do have to use both battery packs but it's nice that I have a third from my cordless drill if I need it. The hardest part about this product for me is trying to remember to go in the basement and switch out the batteries when charging them. It definitely worth not having to pay $30 for a landscape service to come. Buy an electric start gas push mower to go along with this trimmer. No messing with those aweful pull cords for starting.

[+] 2.0 Hardly cuts grass at all
I have numerous Black and Decker Cordless items and thought this might fit my needs at work. Have a 10 X 20 patch of grass in front and not worth getting a mower for. This just did nothing. I used a battery up and hardly cut any grass at all. Can't give it away. It sits waiting for one of my children to have a garage sale.

[+] 8.0 Poor battery life, but lightweight
Pros: light, easy to carry, no cord, not as noisy and gas-powered
Cons: battery runs out fast

[+] 10.0 great for light trimming work
I bought this based on the other positive reviews I saw here, and I have not been disappointed. My yard is a little over 1/2 acre and includes several flower beds, trees, storage shed, etc which all need to be trimmed around whenever I mow. It's a good thing this comes with two batteries for this size of yard, since the first battery starts to noticeably slow down after about 2/3 of the job. The parts I trim with this are basically just grass, which it does fine with; it has a little harder time with thicker weeds, etc.

The things that are great about it are:
1. It is much lighter than the gas models, without being tethered to an extension cord like the plug-in models.
2. Instant-on: just attach the battery pack and squeeze the trigger and you're ready to trim
3. Not having to do maintenance on yet another small gas engine, worry about fuel/gas mixtures, etc

[+] 10.0 Highly Recommended
I wasn't aware I'd have to assemble this. It wasn't difficult, however it did take a significant amount of time. The batteries and charger, as well as the trimmer, all work extremely well. I rate this product "excellent".

[+] 8.0 Eats Weeds without Cords, Meets Expectations
I read many of the reviews before purchasing this item. I had almost given up on it due to all of the complaints about battery life. On a visit to a local hardware store, I noticed one that was in an open box for a highly discounted price, so decided to at least give it a go.

Look, people, if you are expecting this thing to be as powerful and last as long on one "tank" as a gas powered trimmer, you are missing the point.

This product does a great job on routine maintenance tasks. If you are trying to weed eat a lawn that hasn't been trimmed in a month...of course one charge isn't going to make it!

After moving into a house, I had this exact issue. The grass was out of control. It took me 4 battery swaps to complete the whole yard. But, since then, my weekly trimming takes about 1/2 a charge and I'm done.

So, if you're a lazy slacker and tend to let your grass grow for a few weeks until your significant other beats you into submission or you've received your third neighborhood association violation, this product is not for you.

But if you're pretty good about keeping up with the mowing (a week or two of slacking allowed), this product will work just fine.

[+] 10.0 Another good product
Works about as well as any corded trimmer that I have ever had. Battery life is no problem, it did my whole (large) yard with the two batteries included. since I have several other B&D products, I could trim the whole neighborhood if I wanted to!

Easy assembly too, and was delivered quckly.

The battery life is extremly small. It says that the fully charged battery is good for 7-8 hours, but it lasted only 20-30 min.

[+] 2.0 Toy or tool?
LISTEN UP! I read all the reviews all over the internet and they are very promising; this product proves that ratings are not always reliable.

I purchased this a a major retailer and had no problem putting it together; charged the batteries for the 9 hours as instructed, then went out to see how it worked. It spins fine and makes real sound effects, but CHOKES on the smallest amount of grass. You can tell by the immediate change in pitch of the motor.

I teased my wife and told her we would keep it and give to our 5 year old as a toy..LOL. We would remove the razor blade and the string line first, but SERIOUSLY. This is weak at best. I purchased this because I have gone electric or cordless because of my degenerate disc disease all along my spine. It is easy on the spine, but lacks any backbone.

Now I'm back to the reality of looking at the dreaded corded for my residential neighborhood yard (3/8 acre). If I go this route I recommend the Stihl FSE60.
I have checked it out and it is solid and well balance and comes with a shoulder strap and can maneuver it with one hand, which might be good so you can keep the cord in the other. Also, the spool is the easiest, you stick the new line in and turn; do not need to remove the spool. Also uses an thicker .080 line, which is another plus and runs about $119.00.

"Comparison tests show that the Stihl FSE60 is one of the few electric string trimmers that perform as well as gas trimmers in its price range, even for handling tall grass and weeds. Yet it's not only far quieter and better for the environment, but also costs less to maintain and operate. The downside is that the user's range is limited to the length of an extension cord -- with this trimmer, that's up to 200 feet." - consumersearchdotcom

[+] 8.0 convenient, adequate for minor tasks and touchups . . .
Free of restrictive power cords, an electric weedwacker is a very convenient tool. Black and Decker's NST2018 trimmer is very lightweight, and easy to use. With a 12 inch diameter cutting path, the unit is suitable for light trimming, touch ups, edging, and catching small areas missed by a mower. While the motor has enough power for moderate tasks, if you want to trim large areas, or tackle thick, high grass, you probably should look at something more powerful.

The trimmer comes with two 18 volt batteries, and you will probably need them both to take on anything except a small job. It is hard to predict how long a battery may last under actual use, but you might get fifteen minutes of run time from a new battery. It is a just a good idea to make sure both batteries are charged up, before you start a job.

The 0.065 inch trimmer line feeds automatically, you don't bang the spool on the ground, or manually feed line. The auto feed system works pretty well, but does get stuck at times. Since the electric motor does not generate higher speeds like a gas motor, the noise level is relatively low. The unit is very light, and vibration is minimal. The trimmer guard is constructed of durable hard plastic, and should not crack under normal use.

This trimmer is a great for touch ups and smaller yards. The freedom is wonderful, you are not polluting the air, and your hands won't get dirty mixing fuel.

[+] 10.0 Simplicity and Convenience
Just as the product description says, "There are no extension cords or gas engines to maintain, and the light weight adds to simplified operation." And no more of the bump and go with the string trimmer mechanism. I spent way too much time with my other trimmers restringing the spools. The two batteries provide just enough work time to get the job done with a smaller size fenced in yard. I find this unit very handy indeed and probably will never use my other trimmers again.

[+] 4.0 Trims good when it's not throwing out too much line
After using this item for less than 3 months, the line cutter has fallen off and we've had the constant problem that the auto-feed allows way too much line to be let out, especially when trimming against a hard surface (concrete, side of deck, etc). I wish I had my old trimmer back that I'd held together with duct tape - it did a better job than this trimmer.

[+] 6.0 not satisfied
I used the trimmer -edger two different times. We have about 800 ft of trimming as we live on a corner double lot with sidewalk bordering the property--plus the trimming around the landscaping. The unit did not have enough power and it took both batteries fully charged and even then the power was very low or stopping before the trimming was complete. I returned the unit to A Black & Decker service center and recieved a check for 99.97--the amount I paid Amazon for the unit.

I would have liked to have knowm the amount of full power running time for the battery. I believe this unit should only be reccommended for small yards or for trimming that takes 30 minutes or less.

[+] 2.0 Noisy, terrible battery, am returning it
I had bought the little Earthwise (I believe the name is) trimmer, which feels like a toy and is not at all powerful.

I thought I'd try a B&D and see if it is any improvement.
The B&D has a bit more power, and is substantially heavier. Yet it is incredibly poorly built. No pieces fit together easily. And the battery charger is a joke-- you charge and charge and charge. I was waiting for the red light to turn green, but get this, it does NOT turn green. You just have to guess!

Instructions are useless. Kind of a bad diagram and that's it.

There are two batteries, which is something, but you will only get 13 minutes out of each one.

SO... while it has a bit more power than the Earthwise product, and two batteries, I will stick with the Earthwise unless I find something better. At least the Earthwise usually gets me 15 minutes of cutting and weighs less. Oh, did I mention the B&D is incredibly noisy? It sure is.

Back to the store with it...

[+] 4.0 Batteries won't last; save your money!
The product actually works pretty well when it is new. Unfortunately, their estimated 3 hr. run time never lives up to their high hopes. You can expect a full 20 minutes of actual, effective run time. I have had mine for 2 years and 1 month; the second battery is now dead while the first one died a couple of months into it's use. Now, the batteries will cost roughly $40 each to replace. Double that to replace both batteries and you can almost purchase a new unit.

I used mine roughly 1 1/2 seasons and primarily found it frustrating due to the battery draining too quickly. To my surprise, the spool of cutting string lasts quite a bit longer than I expected.

If you have a small yard...perhaps in a townhouse, this may work for you. For the average suburb. owner, I say save your money and go with a small gas weedeater. I would NOT recommend buying this.

[+] 6.0 A handy backup trimmer but not a primary tool
I had a corded trimmer that worked great, but it burned up after 12 years. Since I had a B&D 18v cordless drill, which I love, I thought I'd give this trimmer a try. Now I'm looking to buy a corded trimmer again. I have 120 linear feet of yard for which the edger can't manage sufficiently. Since I can't bump it to unwind more string I end up trying to edge with a single 1 1/2 length of string. I find myself manually removing the cover and unwinding more string. I shouldn't have to do that.
As for trimming, it's great on a fully charged battery, but once the battery gets beyond mid charge, you're wasting your time. It takes me four fully charged batteries to do front and back yard. Now I don't ever have a full battery for my drill.
And, if you buy this, you definitely need to buy the charger that won't burn up your batteries if you leave it on too long. You're going to spend a lot of time charging batteries and you can't afford to forget about them while they're charging.
The tradeoff of being cordless is spending my time going back to the garage to change out batteries.

[+] 4.0 works great at first, but beware!
This trimmer works fine out of the box. Batteries last a while 15-20 minutes (even though you only have one charger). However, after a couple of months, the battery life kept dwindling and dwindling to about 5-6 minutes, and I had to buy an extra battery and charger, but the same results. I tried different chargers, even different outlets, but I have to use all three batteries to get halfway around my yard.

Forget this, I'm going back to corded! And keep this trimmer just for the remote out of the way places the cord wont reach!

[+] 10.0 Review of Black & Decker Grass Hog String Trimmer
This is a great trimmer. For a medium size yard, having the two batteries is essential. I can do 3/4 of trimming on one battery. It is as good or better than the Black and Decker I had before it. Former one had one battery which meant I could never do all the trimming at one time. It was heavier. The string did not automatically advance in the former one even though it was advertised to do so.
I am very pleased with this item (Black & Decker NST2018 18-volt Cordless Electric 12-inch Grass Hog String Trimmer with 2 batteries).

The only negative is that it did not come with a wall mount like the former one. But since it is much lighter than former one, I was able to just hang it on existing hooks.

I give it my highest rating.

[+] 8.0 Great Item!
This is a great cordless trimmer! Once I got it assembled, it is really easy to use. Converts from trimmer to edger with ease. It is light weight. Came with two batteries, which is convenient. The batteries are lasting approximately 30 minutes with steady use. I'm satisfied because by the time the battery gets low, I am ready for a break!

[+] 10.0 Grass Hog has been trimming our lawn for years
I recently purchased my third grass hog string trimmer, not because I needed the trimmer but because I needed batteries and wanted another charger. For 2 batteries, a charger and a string reel the price seemed equitable to purchasing the items separately.
I have been using a grass hog trimmer at home for several years and another at our country place. The trimmer is very good on the St. Augustine grass we have at home. The country place has mixed grasses, some of which are very tough, so the trimmer's use is limited there.
I use the home trimmer to edge the walkways, patio and driveway, then trim around the house, garage, flower beds, trees and fence. It is usually necessary to use a second battery to complete the lawn. The trimmer works best with a fully charged battery so I frequently place the partially discharged battery from the trimmer into my B&D blower to further discharge it, then finish trimming with the fresh battery. The batteries are guaranteed for 2 years and that is about as long as they will take a good charge.

[+] 10.0 Weedwacker for Boondockers
This unit is great for my boondocking. I do not have to worry about fuel/oil leaking in my tow vehicle. One fully charged battery is more than enough power to clear a site for my camper and tow vehicle.

Also handy when fishing - no more standing in weeds.

Really helps reduce annoying bugs.

The telescoping handle makes the unit easy to store.

Happy I finally own one.

[+] 6.0 So So Weedeater
If you don't have a large area to maintain, this weedeater will do the job but you will burn through both batteries to get the job done if you're lucky. It does work great for 10 minutes or so but fades fast. Still, i am satisfied with it's performance and when you keep up with your lawn, it works good. I do not regret buying this product since it was on sale.

[+] 8.0 Very adequate (just not perfect)
This weed wacker is very adequate for my yard (150'x40' with fences, playset, etc.) Battery life is satisfactory- can do the whole job if fully charged. 12 inches is smaller than it sounds- I would not want to have to whip a large area or large weeds with this machine. My biggest complaint is the vibration- not really noticable while working, but my hands are tingling for some time after I'm done. Next cutting I will wear some thick gloves and see if that helps. Have not used as an edger yet. Price seems reasonable. It's nice not to have to mess with starting the gas whipper. Noise is more than you might imagine from electric, but quieter than gas. Again, this is adequate for my little city yard- I would definately recommend something bigger and more powerful for real work on a bigger country lot or overgrown yard.

[+] 10.0 Sooooo Happy
I have a large yard where a corded trimmer is not an option. Gas powered trimmers were always a challenge, so I wanted an electric trimmer. Problem was always to find one that had enough power. This trimmer answered that problem. Works great!
It's also nice that I already have the Hedge Hog trimmer, and now I have several batteried to power everything.

[+] 10.0 Best for older adults
As I could no longer carry our gas operated weed eater and the electric cord on the next one was a nightmare of heavy tangled wires, this machine with it's batteries seemed a practical choice . [+] 10.0 Lightweight and no cords!
Lightweight, no cords, effective edge trimmer and weed-wacker . . . great product. I've noticed that if it says Black & Decker, it's probably a well-priced and well-thought out piece of equipment.

[+] 2.0 No battery life!
Extremely disappointed in the battery life! Two batteries are provided and it is a good thing, because I am barely able to finish an average sized lawn with both batteries! And they take a long time to charge as well. The other bad thing is as the battery charge goes down the cutting action is greatly impacted. I would not recommend this unit at all.

[+] 8.0 Not bad!
I got tired of the gas powered homelite I was having trouble with. It seemed to always have little things I needed to fix. I had it rigged with a great replacement head that I loved, but could not overcome the problems with the gas engine issues so decided to look for an alternative. I had already switched to a Toro electric blower which I was shocked to find worked so well and is so easy to use (other than having a long cord attached to it). Saw the reviews for this trimmer. As with the Toro blower, this trimmer has limitations. But, for anyone that has about 15-20 minutes of not too heavy trimming, this thing is great. It is lightweight. It has automatic feed (no bumping, etc). It takes 2 seconds to switch it to an edger. Best of all, no cord to pull and no gas mixture to deal with. I find that it goes about 15 minutes on each full battery before it starts running slow. For me, I can finish my yard on one battery. If you have more, this thing comes with 2 batteries. Granted it does not cut through 12 inch weeds as easily as my gas Homelite did, but it will cut high weeds. For someone with a huge yard and lots of high weeds, etc, this is not the right trimmer. But for someone who eges their driveway and walkways and trims around flower beds and fences on an average yard, this thing is really convenient and easy to use.

[+] 10.0 This animal makes edging fun.
I can not believe that I am using the same animal others have reviewed. I looked on the box to be sure. This is my third year and it is still working as well as the first time I tried it. I have a small lawn and what used to be reachable by mower is now only reachable by trimmer. With all the compost I use and other earthy products, the lawn has risen above the driveway and sidewalk. By using the "Groom 'N' Edge" button to rotate the trimmer head 180 degrees to convert the trimmer to an edger, I not only groom the lawn but also cut away the overflow dirt. Maybe this is why I seem to use more Black & Decker AF-100 String than the average reviewer. I think this thing will never fall apart; if it does I will go cordless.

[+] 8.0 Great!
I love this weed whacker. It cuts grass / weeds perfectly and I love the fact that it's battery operated - no cords, no messy chemicals to deal with.

The only gripe I have is that one of the batteries never fully charged properly so I only get 5-10 minutes out of it. Also, let's face it, it would be nice if it came with a double charger!

I definitely recommend this item. Happy weed whacking!!!

[+] 4.0 two batteries, still no staying power
Black & Decker NST2018 18-VOLT CORDLESS GRASS HOG TRIMMER.
The auto string feed is great, now if they can get some "staying power" from the two batteries! Cannot trim front or back yard before both batteries need charging. The re-charging time for each battery makes the trimming operation a two day affair. Now have three batteries, but re-charge time is still a hold-up

[+] 6.0 30 Mins of Use
I got 30 mins out of one battery on a full charge. Kind of disappointing.

[+] 10.0 Worth the value
Arrived today ahead of schedule. Quick easy set up and ran great (had 18 volt black and Decker batteries from another product) I have about a 1 acre yard and with one battery was able to do a good trim job the first in over three years. The ability to change the angle is a great feature, also string was included which I did not realize. A great value.

[+] 10.0 Grass Hog String trimmer
I bought the first trimmer for my wife for Mothers Day she had wanted one for the past year or so. She took it to my son and daughter in laws new home recently and needless to say it found a new home there. Sooo, I went looking for another one at Sears, they were out them, after a short search I found the item here on Amazon. I bougth another one for her. This thing is great, works very well we can do our entire yard and still have a bit of battery left, we always keep the second one ready but so far haven't had to change mid-way throught the yard. Our yard is large and the trimmer works very well even in getting into to some tight areas near our deck and front porch. The price was right and the two battery system is great. I would tell my friends this is a good investment, used correctly it will last a long time.
