[+] 4.0 Good in theory / bad in execution
This printer is borderline useless. The first one I purchased was defective. The second one works, but not to my standards. Scanner is great, but the printer is below par. The printer is horrible for printing documents (very slow) and the paper feed jams for no reason ALL the time. It prints nice photographs but runs out of ink SOOO quickly. In fact midway, before the ink is even out it starts streaking and showing these horrible lines in the photos which is totally UNACCEPTABLE. I originally purchased this for the photo functions and thought the other functions would be a useful added bonus. It is not worth it. I often don't print things simply because dealing with this printer which only works well 50% (at best) of the time is such a hassle. I always think to myself it would have been easier and cheaper to just send them in to get printed. Plus this machine is huge. It takes up way too much space. It just sits there eating up the lion's share of my desk, taunting me. I have used this connected to a PC and a MAC, both with poor results. Printing from a memory card is an almost useless, clunky feature which allows for very little, or no, editing. I would advise doing it from Photoshop. Actually I would advise everybody to stay as far away from this unit as you can--it's a complete flop. I have had Canon printers in the past that were great and that is why I gravitated to this printer, but after this purchase my confidence in their products has gone WAY down.

[+] 6.0 Canon Pixma MP760 review
I received it very quickly. It didn't work so I went to the Canon company to get a replacement. Canon said the MP760s were no longer made and they sent me a MP800 instead. I was not told by Electronics Expo that the item was no longer made and it might be hard to get parts. The only reason they are getting a 3 is because I did bypass them and didn't give them a chance to right the problem. I don't like to be called about my reviews and after I made the first one I was called several times. Telling me I should remove it. I did so simply because I didn't give them a chance to fix it. DO NOT CALL ME OR I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT.

[+] 8.0 FANTASTIC photo printer
After a tremendous amount of research, I bought this printer for my parents and was SO impressed with it that I was sad to leave it at their house! The picture quality is phenomenal (and I have seen dozens of different methods of producing prints), and the colors are truer to life than some of even my studio prints of the same pictures (I tried it by printing some copies of my wedding pictures). The copy feature does just a beautiful a job as the print feature does, and it's a BREEZE to use and set up. If it's not clear in the description, this machine also makes prints from negatives and those old-school slides (from the '70s?), which is unheard of in a home printer in all my research. Finally (and MOST importantly) the print cartridges are truly cheap to purchase: it costs around $9 to buy any of the colors, and the cartridge lasts for a while even after printing 100 or so pictures. My parents absolutely love it. If you're looking for an all-in-one and want a good photo printer, do not look any further.

The only problem they've encountered is that the display screen got a thick black line across it in the first week of use, and it has never gone away. They can't even see the screen anymore, but the printing/copying/scanning is not disturbed, and it's probably a defect in this one machine.

[+] 2.0 Sorry, I disagree
I read and researched this product for a month. I was so happy to get it. I still have a 10 yr. old Canon product! It was great.....
However, after only 6 months, I started to have "on/off" problems and now my print cartridge carriage locked and sparks were shooting out of the printer!
Customer service is so hard to contact......their site is even difficult to download!
Bottom line, this model is not even being manufactured now! Interesting, since is was rated in the top 3 by a noted consumer rating co. What does Canon know?
I spent over $200+ on this, and it is going to the dump because Canon's warranty is limited and if it is shipped back to them ($60), THEY decide if it was defective or I caused it!!!! Guess who will win?
What a mess......I'm debating buying a Canon product now?

[+] 8.0 Solid all-in-one
This is a great all-in-one printer from Canon overall. However, there is a few items that potential buyers should know.

This printer comes with removable ink head which makes cleaning possible. I had to throw away two Epson photo printers because the printer head got dirty and there was no possible way of cleaning them. Even the Epson representative suggested to just toss them away and buy a new one after years of use. I don't know about you, but I don't want to buy a printer just to toss them after a few years *simply* because one component becomes unusable. Canon designed this printer with removable print head so when it gets dirty, user may remove it and wash it. Saves money in the long run.

Five separate ink cartridges means great color photos. Even though this is not a "photo" printer, this printer generates great looking photographs. Words of caution though. Only after printing 3 high-quality pictures on 8.5x11" glossy papers, color inks were reduced to half level. Black and grey inks weren't affected much. Therefore, even though Canon advertises that it might save money by using separate color cartridges, this particular model seems to use a lot of ink printing photos. In other words, if you are buying this printer thinking that you would save ink, you either might end up not saving money, or you won't save as much as you think.

Great film negative scanner. The built-in card readers were really convenient. This model doesn't have a parallel port so it's not to be used with older computers.

[+] 10.0 Great printer
The printer is quick for an all in one, the text is fine and the printed pictures are very good. I swithced from a HP deskjet 720c and have no regrets.

[+] 10.0 Smooth sailing
I like my choise of the Pixma MP760. It is easy to use and works beautifully. Like the idea of separate inks so don't have to buy all colors when one runs out. Can't wait to print pictures. Also, it is much faster than my previous printer.

[+] 4.0 Disappointing scanning performance
This model seems to be a reasonably good, if bulky, printer.

However, my primary reasons for buying this model were the scanning functions, and particularly the film/slide scanning features. The performance is really subpar for this use. Both prints and slides end up blurry in scans, even at the highest resolution (which isn't very high). I've thoroughly cleaned the top surface of the glass, but there seems to be some residue on the bottom side, which I can't access to clean.

The color accuracy of the scanner is also not good. Slides which have vibrant, exciting color on the light table, produce scanned images which are flat and dull.

Finally, the scanning software (MP Navigator) has a very poor interface and makes scanning large numbers of images more tedious than it needs to be.

[+] 10.0 So much better than my old HP
I've always had an HP home office printer (standard and multi-functions) because they were suppose to be the best. After 10 years, I literally put my foot through the top of my scanner. I couldn't take the buggy software anymore! It didn't matter what I did, I couldn't get the scanner software to work reliably and near the end, the printer would only print one page at a time.

After a TON of research, including many HPs, I picked the PIXMA MP760. I can't tell you how much better this printer is than any HP printer I've EVER owned. Not only does it print amazingly fast, the photos and documents look great. The scanner works like a charm and automatically creates docs as a PDF (a very nice and unexpected bonus). The copier is one touch, fast and clear.

After a month, I am now a very loyal Canon customer. I love this printer!

[+] 10.0 Good
This is a good solid machine. It does what it says it does and does it well. There may be some limitations to buying an all in one machine, but I have not found any. After purchasing this machine, I have been making a gradual migration to applicable Canon products. They seem well made, have a good overall design, and are not excessivelly burdened with "glitter functions." It might have been nice to have an auto paper feed for the copier/scanner, but, from my experience these often break or malfunction early on. Picture printer options and picture printing are superb. Ink usage is well designed and I do not need to spend a fortune on new ink cartridges every time I turn around. If you are working in an office and doing thousands of copies or scans a day, this is not for you. if you use it for home or small business uses, it can easily keep up with your demands.

[+] 8.0 Question re. Auto sheet feeder
I have not purchased this printer yet. I have a question regarding the auto sheet feeder. Please excuse me if this sounds dumb. If I wanted to scan a 10 page document (such as a contract), I believe I would need to manually place each page on the scanner and scan them one at a time. Does this also mean that I would have 10 separate pdf documents? Or, would it still be one pdf document which is 10 pages in length?

Thanks to anybody who can help answer this question.
- Ray

Auto sheet feeder: The mp130 and mp760 do NOT have an auto sheet feeder. All 3 of the others do. An auto sheet feeder is very useful when doing a lot of scanning or faxing.

[+] 10.0 NEVER going back to Lexmark!
I bought this printer in early July of this year, and was immediately impressed with how quiet, quick and well set up it is. My Lexmark X83, which was a TOY compared to this machine, was noisy, slow and CONSTANTLY gave me problems with file corruption, faulty operation, and the expense of replacing the cartridges, (about the size of small salt and pepper shakers,) got to be a MAJOR drag!

Someone at Canon ought to be given a medal for having the brains to finally do what every inkjet printer owner has WANTED manufacturers to do, that is: separate the color reserves from the print head! This makes replacing cartridges SOOOO much more convenient and inexpensive! However, the unit DOES seem to use up ink at a prodigious rate! (The ink reserves are STILL cheaper than Lexmark's!)

The MP760 makes almost NO noise when printing, and even in high res mode, will print faster than my Lexmark did in NORMAL mode! Setup was a snap, taking maybe fifteen minutes, tops!

Like their cameras of the sixties and seventies, the printer feels substantial and well made, and its performance bears this out. The LCD screen is a nice touch as is the yet-to-be-used ability to print pics directly from negatives, (Gott sei danke for Canon's experience in the photo field!) Within a year and a half, my X83 was malfunctioning...somehow, I don't think that will be a problem with this EXCELLENT printer!

Now, if only Canon would bring back the FTb, I'd be happy as a clam!

[+] 10.0 Canon MP760
Very nice all in one compared to any available on the market! Went from a HP Photosmart 1215 and the speed along with the quality of pictures is amazing. Nice installation compared to the HP drivers which cause hangups with the USB ports once in awhile. Good buy!!!

[+] 10.0 Great Printer
Stengths: Does everything the other reviewers say it will do, it is very fast and quiet. The negative holder is very neat for printing photos from negatives
Weakness: Very few, if anything the photo software that comes with it. But I would still buy printer again.
Overall: excellent printer
Quick shipping from Amazon, ordered on Thursday, received it on Monday

[+] 8.0 Best of the all in one's without a fax machine!
I looked and looked for an all in one machine, especially HP, but this was the best one because I decided that photo managment and creativity would be used more than a fax. Besides, I could buy a fax/phone combo separately. I had to return the first of the 760's that I bought from Amazon because it would not copy or scan. Amazon put a replacement in the mail promptly and I am very happy with the replacement. I like this relatively big, but multifuntion machine from Canon very much. It got a 4 only because I had to return the first one. I will look to buy other Canon products as I have a long history already with their cameras and printers and have been very satisfied.

[+] 10.0 An Excellent Printer - Very Impressive
I purchased the printer about 1 month ago. It has been a great upgrade from my previous 3-in-one. I based my purchase on other owners reviews and have been very satisfied. My main goals were true photo-quality printing, scanning and copying. I have no complaint about the lack of FAX capability. I did not want it and preferred not to pay for it anyway.

- The DRAFT print mode is truly "draft". It appears to print much lighter and with much less quality than "standard" mode which is the next mode available. Okay, not a big problem. It even saves ink but, I was surprised at how moderate the print quality is in that mode.

- I have been printing full-page graphics in "standard" mode along with cd/dvd labels with full-color graphics in standard mode and so far, the ink cartridges have held up well. A nice point to mention is that the ink cartridges are clear so you can see the amount of ink available.

- MOST IMPORTANT POINT - Photo Paper
I would not have considered that paper brand would make a difference but, it does...at least with this printer. A VAST difference.

My first attempt at printing 4x6 photos to glossy Plus paper was very disappointing. I used a very popular, name-brand, big-into-photography brand paper and the prints came out only acceptable. There was a large amount of digital noise in the photo especially in the darker, shaded areas. This was true even with noise-reduction enabled in the Canon photo print software.

I then printed the same photo using the Canon brand 4x6 glossy PLUS paper that came with the printer and the results were wonderful. A true photo with vibrant colors and no hint of noise. I was pleased to determine it was the paper and not the printer.

I plan on testing other paper brands including some of the major office supply store brands because they are cheaper.

I spent a great deal of time reading reviews on the internet on this printer prior to making the purchase from Amazon. I have noticed that the price has fluctuated a bit. I paid less then the current selling price and the shipping was immediate. I believe less than 5 business days.

I hope this review is helpful to you.

[+] 10.0 Very impressed! Canon quality again!
Great photo all-in-one printer, great functions to copy from slides and negatives. This scanner has a lamp built into the lid for proper slide and negative scanning. Duplex or copy to both sides as it's commonly known is done within the printer, no need to flip the paper over. Paper can be loaded manually or load the built in cassette with paper and your done, I loaded my photo paper into the cassette to avoid dust build up onto the print surface. Copy, Scan, Print without the PC running or even better purge photos from a memory card and print an index of your photos without PC. You can even edit enhance photos within the built in LCD without PC. This printer is user friendly; a novice will pick up the functions fast. Software suite is ok not the best but gets the job done, includes Arc-Soft Image Suite and Omni-Page SE. Decent scan speeds, Has a function for speedy B/W printing which is the fastest I have seen for an inkjet. Quality color photos, better than my old Epson. Ink is very affordable and the ink head is replaceable. Does not seem to bleed through when printing color on plain paper with setting on normal or default. When you use Canon paper for photos its better than original, no disappointments here. Never had a paper jam. If you need a fax function which the MP760 lacks use an on-line fax source. No clumsy power block, it's built into machine. MP760 is not a huge machine but its going to take up some space on your desk, 14"d x10"h x 20"w the actual footprint is 12"x17" height with lid open is 23".This all-in-one is the one to have. Looks and feels like a quality printer.

[+] 10.0 Great Machine...End of Story
This printer/scanner/copier is FABULOUS! can't say enough good things about it. This is amazing, it prints photos like any retailer would, but in a flash, somewhere around 4 seconds for each 4x6, the quality is SUPERIOR! and ink replacement doesn't put youin debt. The software included is great as well! AAAAA ***** last thing, make sure you order a USB printer cable at the same time, for it is not included.

[+] 2.0 Worst AMZN shipping experience to date
Unless you want to wait over a month for shipping, I would strongly suggest that you buy this at another retailer. I paid $179.99 but AMZN increased back to the $230's. Don't believe their BS shipping estimates!!!

I ordered the Canon 760 in May. After several emails and calls to customer service, it was shipped after approx 3 weeks of placing my order. It was upgraded to "standard shipping" which claimed to take 5 to 6 business days. Shipping alone is going to take 3 more weeks because it was mislabeled by the distribution center. Do yourself a favor and buy elsewhere....

[+] 6.0 Microsoft Digital Image 10 Suite not compatible
For months I have been using Digital Image 10 to scan thousands of photos. It's a great program. I used HP6110 to do the scanning. Smooth.

I bought the Canon 760 to be able to scan slides and film. It does that job well.

My problem is that when scanning photos, using Digital Image 10, only 1/4 of the photo was scanned.

I tried working outside of the Automatic mode and got my entire photo scanned on a white sheet with my photo in the upper left corner.

I am disappointed that when I brought this problem to Canon they told me to go to Microsoft.

Make sure your photo software works with the Canon 760.

[+] 10.0 wonderful AIO
I'm not sure what happened to the price, but I got this on Amazon for $186 on May 26, '05. It was a bargain, free shipping, no tax! So I bought it. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It scans negatives, slides, anything! As far as I can see, the quality is great. On the printing side, it is also superb quality, both photo prints and regular documents. Don't forget to use Canon photo paper for your photos! Also, buy your ink cartridges on amazon, with the free shipping. It is great that each color has its own cartridge, so you just have to replace the one that is out, instead of replacing all the colors. Also, one thing you can't see in the photos is that if that front door is closed (where the prints come out from), it will open up automatically (slowly, and silently) right before printing begins. It is like some kind of futuristic printing/scanning/copying machine. By the way, it is pretty big, so make sure you have space for this baby. The dimensions are correct on amazon, BUT the actual footprint is smaller. It is approximately 14"x17"!
