Just what you remember!
I've been looking for a solid hibachi for a few years. The only hibachi grills I've found are the thin pot metal ones at the drug stores. I just used this last night and really like the simplicity of this cast iron hibachi. Easy assembly and use. I put it up on bricks or cinder block because it does get hot! Remember to season the grill before you put food on. It took about 40 minutes before the "burning paint" smell went away. I also sprayed cooking oil on the grill grates and let them season on the top slot after I had them on the lowest slot to burn off impurities.
BK
My mother bought this as a gift for my grandpa. He has been wanting a hibachi for years since theirs finally wore out. They are not an easy find and this one is perfect. They loved it and it is perfect for their small BBQ needs for two people. Very good buy for the price.

Gave it as a gift and it was a hit
I have a friend who mentioned that he would like to be able to find one of the "old Hibachi Grills". I searched Amazon and found it. The delivery time was great. The price was right.
My friend loved it and uses it all of the time. I am really happy with this item. May buy one for myself now.
One of the grill supports does not hold one of the grills evenly with the other grill.

Not what I wanted picture deceptive
The picture of the grill make is look like is is similar to the ones from the 70's with a grill bed of at least 4-5 inches. This one is only like 2 inches, and does not hold enough charcoal. The cost of shipping back and paying the initial shipping makes it not worth returning. Total flop. I have learned do not shop on line to deceptive.

Spend $60 more & go for a Lodge
We bought this to replace a 1960's Hibachi. It is, after 2 uses, unuseable. It is cheaply & poorly made; grates slant the wrong way and soon broke. Would definitely not stand up to being transported. So spend the extra money and gp for a Lodge; this is pseudo cast iron.

A FRESH OPINION!
I have wanted a Cast Iron Hibachi for years - had one in the 70's and 80's and enjoyed it a lot. But when I read all these reviews I was afraid of wasting my money. Then I read some of the lastest ones that implied some of the problems had been corrected and so I ordered. It arrived yesterday and I immediately put it together. And it went together perfectly. The directions were even in good English and very understandable - and correct in all respects! The only thing wrong, and it was VERY minor was, at the very last step when I was attaching the last handle to the cooking grid, a tiny bit of casting that I had to file away to fit the handle perfectly. The handle would have attached but I wanted it perfect if that was all I had to do. Now I'm ready to cook - I'm going to season it all for preservation and enjoy the heck out it! Thanks!

not a "cast iron" hibachi
It is NOT cast iron. It is pot metal. Pot metal is brittle and fractures easily. It is not something you should make a hibachi out of. Worse yet, the design looks nice but places great stress on the metal, in all the wrong places, thus all but guaranteeing failure. Well, I guess you can tell that I'm an engineer. Anyway, the thing broke the first time I tried to use it. I'm not sure what else is out there but how cheap is cheap if what you get is useless? Hey, d'ya suppose it mighta been made in China? Amazon, you should not sell this product.

Cheap Piece of Junk
My girlfriend found this thing in the bargain bin at a local store for 5 dollars and bought one. Assembly was a nightmare and it just feels cheap. Rusted after the first use. I was looking for a replacement on Amazon when i saw this and had to comment. Stay away from this unless it is for maybe a single use.

I like my old school Hibachi
I wanted something small and powerful.I looked at other small grills. They where either very expensive or manufactured with inferior materials.I wanted a multi purpose grill that I could set up in my backyard, tailgate at a ballgame or take to the beach. This Hibachi grill does it all for me.I can grill anything.I have cooked a couple of steaks one evening then turned around then next night and grilled ten pieces of chicken. It works great tailgating.I just rotate sausages, dogs and burgers as needed.I probably could feed 20-25 people off this grill.I like the adjustable settings.Handles get really hot. A cooking mitt or towel is a must have. The grill is small enough that it can fit in medium size gym bag.Great for toting to the beach. It is made out of cast iron but the weight is very managible.Since the grill is smaller than most it uses lease charcoal. So by the time you are ready to come off the beach or leave the game the charcoal has burned down making for safe and easy clean up.
This cast iron Habichi grill is old school. It is simple to use. I highly recommend it.The price is right. It should last a long time if taking care of properly.Do not leave out in foul weather.

Hibachi Grill Review
The Grill's main body had to be replaced twice because of manufacture defects. The body had holes where the molded iron was too thin or not hot enough when the the die was poured. Also, the grates do not line up properly when adjusted to the various heights. This is because the grill supports have flaws in them where one support's slots are at a slightly different angle from the other support. So one grate is level and the other one has a slight downward angle from back to front.
The grill does cook the food evenly and it heats up quickly as expected. I have enjoyed using it.
I have a propane grill but sometimes I just want a steak with that great flavor from cooking over charcoal. This is a great little grill. The reviews I read indicated the need to do a lot of filing to smooth the rough cast iron. I did have to do some to make the grates fit better but other than that everthing went together fine. The cast iron has a very rough appearance but doesn't create any problems. The instructions showed the grate brackets attached to the outside of the grill but they clearly have to be installed to the inside. You can buy other less expensive table top grills but the sheet metal will rust in no time and you can't adjust the height of the cooking grids. You can just use a little charcoal and grill on one side if you just want four burgers or a couple of steaks. I wouldn't trade this little Hibachi for any other small charcoal grill.

This thing is JUNK!!!!
If you are considering purchasing this hibachi, DON'T! It is shoddy and the "cast iron" it is supposedly constructed of is really what is known in the trade as "pig iron". Extremely brittle, and becomes more so as you subject it to heat. One of the grill brackets broke when I set the grill into it for the first time after putting it together. It is actually spray painted black to give the appearance of real cast iron but is actually so full of alloys and contaminants it is really the color of aluminum. Do you wonder why it is so cheap to purchase??? If you really feel like literally throwing away you money, do buy this item. A much better product is the LODGE hibachi...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
This item was made in China and it shows. We could not find a Hibachi locally and we wanted a cast iron one. We bought this one and the 15 minute assembly took over 3 hours. None of the bolt holes aligned. We had to drill new ones. Then when we got them aligned, the grates would not set level over the grill. We probably used over $20.00 in stainless steel hardware to get this grill assembled correctly. Why didn't we return it for another one? Made in China - and it would probably be exactly the same.

hard to find but worth it
living in florida, we grill out 12 montha a year.however, this year, we have had several bouts of cold, wet weather.this fits into my fireplace perfectly, the flue pulls the carbon monoxide up the chimney and i get grilled steaks in the comfort of my den. the hibachi is pretty well made and works perfectly
I gave this grill to my husband for Christmas. He loved the idea but has been able to put together yet because the holes don't line up on the cast iron.
Sturdy and portable. The only thing I wish was better is that the grills don't lay flat when you hook them into the adjustable rack. Easy to assemble. Overall, I really like it -- can't beat it for the price!

Excellent for Condo Decks
I'm a Condo owner with a small deck, so in order for me to keep it from feeling cluttered with a big grill, I decided to try out the Hibachi grill. I'm happy to say,it works just as well as a big grill, yes its a smaller surface, but it's great for dinner for 2-3 people. It's also easy to clean and store. I give this a 5 star rating....
Thank you,

A throw-back to my Youth!
A throw back to my youth! I've been grilling on a Weber gas grill for 10-years now (love Weber products!) however, I do miss the charcoal fragrance and taste. I purchase the Hibachi to provide me the occasional charcoal aroma to my foods. More than likely I will you this grill once a month vs. every weekend for the Weber. This BBQ set is quite simple to assemble.
Pluses:
- Ease of assembly.
- Portable
- Same quality as the Hibachi of the 1970's
- The side gratings are `flared' upwards to prevent you foots from falling to the side (an enhancement from the 70's)
Minus:
- Parts diagram for the screws are a bit off. Two types of screws are provided, however instructions only display one-type. A bit confusing and I had to disassemble and re-assemble to fit the correct screw on the correct placement.
- Similar to the 1970's models, the wooden handles are a bit `chinsey' and fragile. I look forward to changing them out w/ old broom-stick handles (w/in a year or so) like I use to do.
Advice:
- I recommend covering the hibachi after use and prevent additional expose to the elements. It is made of cast iron and rusts quite rapidly if left outside. I store my hibachi inside my Weber gas grill (fits perfectly).

Grill cracked but ShoppersChoice stood behind product.
I ordered this grill from ShoppersChoice and got it in 4 days. On the second day I used it the grill cracked in half while I was grilling? What can you say it is made in China from probably low quality cast iron. I was using lump hardwood charcoal which burns hotter then briquets and that probably cracked the grill. ShoppersChoice though sent me a new replacement part the day after I sent them an email and appologized for the grill cracking.
The grill is ok for what it is and it fun to cook on but I would definitly do business with ShoppersChoice again.

Pretty much what you would expect
Out of the box the casting was rougher than what I remember of my first hibachi many moons ago.
You have to assemble the product yourself which is a no-brainer. All of the parts and fasteners were there and there's not much to it.
One of the legs was shorter, or the the bottom of the hibachi is not quite level so the grill tends to rock a little bit.
Once assembled the grill works as it should, like a dream. Its just the right size for a small and quick grilling. I can burn three medium sized steaks with a little room to spare.
Well worth the price.
Where to start? I had to redrill the holes on the upright brackets that hold the grills in place. The brackets lean away from the unit so that when you insert the grills, they slant upwards at the handle end and are not level. The handles would have been part ways over the coals. The original holes were not even close!! The new holes that I drilled did not even touch the existing ones. I also had to add about 1/4" worth of washers on the bolts for the uprights to make them stand up vertically (pushing the bottoms out and the tops inwards). I had to file some iron off of the grates in order for the handles to fit properly. So, if you own a small machine shop and/or aren't afraid to use a little elbow grease it's just about perfect. Another piece of junk from China. I looked all over for a similar product but could not find one. After all is said and done, it did perform the job that I bought it for. $25 can I really complain?
mine came in good time. assembly was easy.... washed it before use.....fired it up, it stunk, putrid smell....like some chemical burning.......tried it anyway and black paint or dye or whatever came off grates and covered the chicken with black oily residue....I actually took a piece of chicken and rubbed it back and forth on the grate and the piece got blacker and blacker and the grate got more of a silver color......threw the food away......maybe the grill will go next...this after I scrubbed the grates before use.....
At first glance it looks good, if you buy this I suggest you clean it over and over till no more black whatever they used to coat it is gone...
I read one other simmlar report about dye ir ink, I,m surprised there were not more.....
This is a good cast iron grill for camping and home use.
Easy to assemble and use.
I gave it a 3 star because the cooking grids was not finished well. It had slag from casting still on it and needed ground off to be finished properly.

Best of its type now available
This is a very convenient little grill and cooks well. It is the best of its type since it is made of cast iron and not pressed tinny metal like most of the other hibachi 2 burner grills with adjustable grill height that I could find available at this time. It is not as good however as the cast iron grills of this type that were available in the 1970's which were of even heavier and strudier construction But again it is far superior to all others that I could find that are available at this time. If anyone comes across better ones like they used to be please let us know and where to get.

Hibachi and Kay Home Products customer service
Hibachi
I have not been able to find a Hibachi in SE Washington State for the past 3 years. An online search took me to Amazon.com and this Hibachi. It is good quality and the out dated complaint about the painted handles has been corrected. The only problem I had was the left cooking grid was not very stable in the grid support. I sent an email to info@KayHomeProducts.com on Monday evening. Tuesday morning I had an email response from Cathy advising she was shipping me a replacement left cooking grid. I received it in Saturday's mail. Because of the product quality and outstanding customer service I have ordered a 2nd Hibachi to use when we have company and need more cooking service.

love this hibachi
very sturdy all cast iron grill, which cooks the food very quickly, and evenly. a little heavy to carry, but thats to be expected of cast iron. i really like, and do recommend this grill!
I got what I ordered in good condition in a reasonable amount of time. Not much else to say about a piece of cast iron used for cooking.
This little hibachi is the neatest thing. It's wonderfully compact and fits great on our patio. Perfect for apartment dwellers. My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed everything he's grilled on it. Heats fast, grills fast and cleans up fast. Perfect!

Loving the hibatchi!
Growing up, hibatchi grills were the only grills I ever remember my parents using. I have wanted one for a while and am really enjoying this one. I was concerned about the transition to cooking on such a small charcoal grill, but every thing I've cooked thus far has turned out perfect. I did season mine before using to cut down on rusting. Very easy to assemble.Feels like a trip back in time for me and am loving it! My daughter wants one now, so I will probably be making another purchase of one within the next month or so!

Great space saver BBQ Grill
Pros: It's cheap and economical! Portable and space saver.
Cons: Only good for small cooks. Takes time to heat/warm up. It cracked in one area of the overtop grill when I was grilling. Not sure how long it will last but need to take good care of it, if you want it to last longer.

A great cast iron hibachi
We like the size and convenience of a hibachi grill for grilling meals for the two of us. The only thing we could find locally was a light weight sheet metal grill that was quite flimsy. This is a solid cast iron grill that should last many years. The racks fit well into the supports for a three level cooking option. We are quite pleased with this purchase. All of the parts were in the box, and assembly was easy.
If I had to find a flaw, some of the cast iron parts could have been trimmed a little better for a neater appearance, but there were no sharp edges.

This is a piece of junk!!!!
Packaged with four left legs (requires two left, two right)
One briquette grate is smaller than the other and falls to bottom as a result.
Had to drill / elongate hole to install grate support bracket
Paint on handles started to run when I handled them with wet hands. I tried to rinse off the remaining paint or ink under running water so that it will not continue to bleed off. What paint do you know of that rinses off under plain water?
Right cast iron grate cracked when it came in contact with heat.
The design and construction of this product shows clear disregard for the consumer and is absolutely unacceptable at any price. I have to question at this point weather or not the paint used on the grill and grates is toxic or lead based. I've come across my share of junk but this is really bad!

Shop around first.
I've been shopping around for a grill for awhile and was looking for something small enough to take with on our white water rafting/camping trip to Wolf River, Wisconsin.
I recommend you shop around for a Hibachi before you buy one here, because I found one at Dominick's Finer Foods for $9.99
for the same one advertised here, by BBQ Guys and it to is cast iron.
