I was not able to get this photo album to work like it was advertised. So, after getting my electronic-expert grandson to check it out without success, I returned it.

    [+] 6.0 A Review of the Reviews
I would just like to note that the "Most helpful negative review" of this product, is for a different product. Look at the product number that the reviewer is giving. It's a 7 inch rather than an 8 inch frame. I have not purchased this product, yet, so I cannot honestly give it a rating.

    [+] 8.0 Works easily with a Mac
My wife is a digital camera freak when it comes to the grand kids. She wanted something she could put in her purse so she could show photos to friends. I wanted something that would interface easily enough with her Mac so that she could get her photos from camera to computer to pocket album by herself. This digital album fills the bill in that regard. You plug it into the USB port, it shows up on the desktop and you simply drag photos into a folder on the device. Nothing could be easier. No setup was necessary. Picture quality is okay, but not nearly as good as on her computer screen or the larger digital photo frame that's been running 24/7 in our kitchen for close to 2 years. Now if she can just remember to put the darn thing in her purse instead of leaving it in the drawer of our coffee table, we'll be good to go!

[+] 4.0 JPEGs Excl VIDEO poor
The Coby 8" played the JPEGs great. MP3s played excellent. Inserting the files were easy and the remote was a perfect addition to this unit. Sound quality was surprisingly good. I liked everything about this unit. Then came the video. The MPEGs, AVI and MPEG4 files were recognized by the unit, they began to play then the screen froze. The audio would continue to play but the video would play, then stop, play a little more, then stop. I tried a smaller file size, higher/lower quality video, AVI, MPEG4 and even tried different software to convert the video to MPEG and AVI. I tried everything but nothing worked and yes, all videos played flawlessly on my computer. Unfortunately, I bought this unit because it had video playback. I'm very disappointed as this was a Xmas gift to my dad. I've returned the unit and hopefully the next one will work as advertised. I will get back to you about the next one. Amazon was excellent in all areas reguarding the service they provide. I would buy through Amazon again with no worries.

[+] 4.0 Picture Quality is OK
Picture quality is OK. But I have tried 3 different Coby digital frames and the SD card reader on the Coby frames cannot read any of my SD cards. I have tried multiple cards, but they cannot read any of them. The same SD card works in my camera, other digital frame and even in this Coby frame if I put it in an SD card reader and attach it to the USB port of the Coby frame.

[+] 6.0 You get what you pay for...
This review is for the DP-887 (the one with the silver and metal frames).

I bought this frame based on the few reviews I could find on it here. It received glowing reviews. I checked the specs for it. It had a good resolution (800x600), which was the main selling point, plus it played mp3s and video.

It arrived in the mail in just a few days to my surprise. I opened it and it looked pretty sleek (I was afraid it was going to be a tad bulky). One weird thing that I first noticed was this weird protective film coating the metal frames. I didn't know if it was supposed to be removed or not, but it was peeling in some places, so I started tearing it off. It was very difficult to remove, and there are still some spots around the inner border where I can't get it off. It seems I'll need an exacto knife to remove the last bits. Until then, I'll have unsightly pieces of torn film around the inner border.

After that, I turned on the frame and loaded it up with pictures. The picture quality isn't as good as I thought it would be based on the reviews. I had previously bought two Kodak frames for family members for Christmas. The picture quality was a lot sharper and brighter on those. I'm not complaining that much, because those two frames were 20-40 dollars more expensive than this one. Mainly, areas where there are gradients such as skies appear very pixelated, like the frame has a very limited color palette.

If I could turn back time, I probably would have gone with a more expensive frame from one of the name brands. I don't want to pay shipping to return this, so I guess I'll keep it and maybe hand it down to someone when I decide it's time to upgrade.

    I hope this review helps.

    [+] 4.0 only 2,000 pictures max.
Overall a nice frame with decent picture quality. However, it has a severe limitation in that it will only recognize the first 2,000 pictures on a USB stick. A severe limitation that Colby does not describe anywhere in its sales materials (otherwise, I would not have bought it).

With 18,000+ pics on a 4 GB memory stick, the Coby frame does disappoint. With a digital camera, one does tend to collect pictures at an astonishing rate over the years. Forget about constantly updating/changing your memory device to have other pics to show on the Colby. You will tire of this very rapidly.

    [+] 6.0 Digital Picture Frame
Still have not figured out how to get the song to play at the same time the pictures do...should be way easier than this! I like the remote and the swappable covers, but the ease of use is just not there and this is a gift for my parents, who don't like technical things...so was trying to get it all set up for them. Not overly happy.

    [+] 8.0 Overall pleased w/ purchase
I just bought this product through [...] and it arrived in short order. As others have pointed out, the manual instructions are not the greatest, but after a little while I was able to figure it out. I managed to upload several pics from my camera by inserting the memory card and copying over the pics to the internal memory (yes, it did have internal memory), then added more pics from my computer using the USB mini port and also copied over a few music files. Great news, the slideshow did play w/ music, you have to set the music to play on the music set up menu.

I agree that the stand is flimsy and may be problematic down the road. The picture quality is great and the music plays beautifully. Although, I noticed a few times that the music had a slight break, then continues on. Well I'll see how it goes. This is a Christmas gift for my mom and I am really hoping all goes well. I got a really good deal for the price!

[+] 8.0 Good frame for the price
Was looking around for a decent quality photo frame to gift to a friend. This frame was well within budget and had good features.

It displays decent resolution photos, also plays MP3s along with the slideshow, and has 128mb inbuilt memory, which is sufficient for 100-200 photos @ 800x600 resolution.

The only disadvantage I found was that writing to its internal memory was pretty slow.

    [+] 2.0 Fatal flaw
The Coby DP888 has, for me, a fatal flaw that I feel should have been disclosed in the advertising. It can only recognize and show 2000 pictures from an SD card (and I would guess any other memory card type), even if the card contains many more pictures. Of course, over the course of a lifetime, many of us take far more than 2000 pictures. My 2GB SD card is only 1/3 full with 3300 pictures on it, so I expected the DP888 to be able to show a huge number of photos, but sadly, it can't. I wonder if Coby's more recent products continue to have this limitation.

    [+] 2.0 3 weeks later, I still can't use it.
First of all, this review is for the COBY DP-758 ONLY. be forewarned, Amazon has this tendency lately to lump reviews for different products together, which makes finding accurate ones for what YOU are purchasing difficult at best! That being said, here's my review: There's nothing like the gift that keeps giving, and this thing is like Herpes...the pain never stops. I received it as a gift, and if you are thinking of buying it for someone, DON'T!! Just give 'em cash, I beg of you. To begin with, it has no internal memory, so immediate purchase of an SD memory card is a must. Then you are limited to the old fasioned, slow SD card (SDHC not compatible) with a 2GB max. So if you have LOTS of pictures, as I do, you will need several, and have to interchage them at regular intervals. Ok, so you have your SD card and think you're ready to go, right? WRONG!! They didn't even include a connectivity cable to hook it up to your computer! The instructions (The marginally better downloaded PDF document by the way, not the crappy instructions included in the box) simply say to connect your computer using a USB 2.0 High-speed cable, which should be easy, but what you actually need is a USB male 'A' to male 'A' connector NOT an A/B extension or even A/A extension which has one female end. This cable thus far, seems to be made with unobtainium, 'cause it's impossible to find. First, I went to Radio-Shack, Staples, Wal-Mart, Best Buy (the list goes on...) and nothing, zero, zip nada...there just isn't any. Not even Belkin had one. Next, I tried online... but 2 tries later (even though the description sounded right) I have returned both, and had to pony up the return shipping to boot (more time and money wasted). Oh and forget about customer service, you are better off asking your pet, or maybe one of those fortune telling eight-balls. Consequently, I still have a picture frame that's only good for a door-stop, and my limited options are; Build the cable myself and risk damaging my computer for this piece of crap, trash it altogether, or perhaps re-gift to someone I really, really don't like.

    [+] 4.0 Limitied capabilities
Aside from a clearly visible grid on the screen, the products has many limitations. To do a slide show of pictures, you have to have all the pictures in the same folder. Besides, you can not have more than 500 pictures per folder, or the last ones will not be shown. So if you have lots pictures organized in folders (like most of us do), you have to copy them into a same folder, which is very troublesome; and most likely you will have to split them in different folders of 500 pictures each, and every once in a while select a different folder. I wish there was a firmware upgrade so the product could randomly display pictures in any folder in a memory device. ...Oops, almost forgot, even though you have different options for memory devices, they cannot be more than 1GB in size or they wont work, another annoyance since nowdays is difficult to find devices of less than 2GB.

    [+] 8.0 Coby DP350 Review
This is a nice purse sized photo album with good quality pictures. I found setup a little awkward and the ability to select individual pics cumbersome, needing a software upgrade, I think. Still, I haven't seen anything any better in this size at any price making it a reasonable choice to carry a bundle (up to 1000) of pictures for a proud parent or grandparent.

    [+] 10.0 nice frame
It is what it is... not to fancy, not too simple. It is easy to use and has a nice display window. I bought it for my grandmother as a gift and she was able to get it to work without any problems. I also like that it has several ways that it transitions between photos (ie. fade out, roll over into next pic, graphic cube fade....). I would recommend this item to anyone that is looking for a digital frame for their photos.

    [+] 8.0 Great gift
The style of the frame is what drew me to this product. Most digital frames just have the plain flat front, but this one was nicer. The images looked great on it as well. The only drawback was having to get the pictures the right dimensions, but that may be the case for all digital frames.
    Reviewer [A1TFOMY3KIGID] | Date [June 28, 2009]
[+] 8.0 Slightly goofy interface, but clean pictures
My siblings and I got this for our mom's birthday. We decided to be sneaky and preload it with pictures of the family before giving it to her, because really who gives a picture frame with the generic pictures in to their mom on her birthday? No one I know who doesn't want to hear about it until judgment day.

The frame itself looks just like the picture. What you don't see is the power cord you'll have to hide though. This take regular AC power from the wall outlet, no batteries. All of the connections, memory slots and USB connections are behind the larger frame. So with some work, the slots and power cord can be hidden from view.

I grabbed the manual and started trying to follow the instructions for adding new pictures to it. That's where my problems started. The instructions didn't seem to follow what the frame and my laptop were telling me. The screen was supposed to have some instructions to follow once the USB was plugged into the laptop. It didn't. It was stuck with a generic info screen that you couldn't navigate away from as directed.

Oh well. Thankfully, since it's a USB drive you can bypass the frame's directions and just drag and drop like you would any other USB drive. When hooked to a PC, you'll find a multitude of new 'drives' on your computer from the frame. These are the different card slots for extra memory. It comes with 128mb in the frame, so if you don't want to drop the money for an extra card, you'll be fine.

Once I narrowed down the internal drive for the frame, I delete the generic pictures and started putting on the ones I wanted, that was the easily part of the entire job. After putting all the pictures I wanted, I renamed the internal drive to make it easier to find later for my parents too.

From there, we started working to organize the pictures for a more random slide show when it was turned on (it has an on/off switch). It was frustrating to figure out how it read the pictures for the show and how it 'randomized' them. Basically we had to rename the picture files, then move them around in the internal drive and then we just told the frame to show them in order.

Mostly these are minor quibbles for me. The pictures looked just fine, the price range was affordable, the screen isn't too small and even my parents have figured out how to add new pictures.

    [+] 4.0 False/Deceptive Advertisement...
I received this Coby DP-350 photo player item 6/25/2009. It was neatly packaged and as described. BUT "DID NOT" COME WITH THE BLACK LEATHER POUCH, shown in the pictures and descriptions, where ever you see this DP-350 advertised, including Amazon.
Clearly false advertising. This handsome leather pouch is one of the reasons I purchased this item. What the heck Coby?? Also I can not play music & view photos at the same time, a feature I would expect to be understood. Coby advertises both music & photo, but not one mentions that you can not view pictures with background music at the same time, even in any of their manuals, they completely duck this issue. Again, What the heck Coby?

[+] 6.0 great deal just to return
I purchased the dp702 frame for father's day. We fully loaded a Kodak 1gb SD card with about 450 pictures (with 75% capacity), it worked just fine and dandy. But, we wanted to add more pictures and recopied the pics onto an PNY optima 2gb SD card with good success now totalling 500 pics. That way, they could load more of their own pics on too, but when we plugged it in, we had no success. It wouldn't read the card at all. We reloaded the old card in and it no longer read it either. We are taking the frame back to exchange and hopefully, it will work. It looks like it's all about total number of pictures or memory inserted.

You can load and see hundreds of pictures through a memory.
MP3 sounds are played and sound very good.
The remote have all applications needed.

The problems I see on this are:
    - You have to reduce quality of pictures ( Ie.: 640x480) in order they look good on the screen. Large pictures (5-7 MP) doesnt display vey good.
    - I have not found the video format it plays.
    - It doesnt have an internal memory that allows to save pictures. If you want to see your pictures you must insert a SD, USB... memory.

[+] 2.0 I have to resize every picture!
I have a regular format camera, not a wide screen one.
I could not find a way of setting display size in a way regular pictures look fine and fit well in this widescreen display.
So I had to crop and resize the pictures before putting them into the frame. Otherwise pictures show as a small square in the middle of the screen.
User manual says that you can update devices's firmaware but there is no such update in the support section of Cobys' web page.
    Very disappointed.

This photo frame doesn't have the vibrant colors that more expensive models have, and I had to resize all my photos to get them to better fit the screen size. However, if this wasn't replacing a pricier model for me, I probably wouldn't have known the difference. It does the job, although if I had it to do over I probably would shell out a few more bucks for better quality.

    [+] 10.0 Portable Photo Album
I was looking for a portable photo album for my wife, to show off pictures of our new granddaughter. The keychain models are just too small to view the pictures decently, and anything bigger doesn't fit well in her purse. The ability of the photo album to hold hundreds of photos is great for her. I also like the leather case that holds the photo album. It is soft and protects the album extremely well.
