I ordered this for my 2.5 year old son. I had read the reviews here, and it seemed like it would fit our needs. I was a bit concerned about how it would be letting a toddler use it. Purchasing this DVD player is the best decision I could have made. We've had it for a little over 3 months. My son watches his movies on it on the way to school in the morning (daycare). He has discovered the Wonder Pets, Dora, Diego, and all of the standards. He will also watch his movies while Daddy is watching his programs (news) in the evening. He carries it around with him and likes to hold it to watch his movies. Mr. Rogers is one of his favorites.
We've dropped it, knocked it over, played it with the car adapter, on the battery, and plugged in. This little dvd player keeps on running, and my son thinks it is the best-- he calls it his computer (peter), and says it is only for big boys like him. If you are looking for something to keep your child occupied during long car trips, or any other time, this is the one. Ours has already gotten the toughest use I can imagine, and it keeps on going.

Seems to be a very nice DVD player
We bought this as a DVD player to leave in the car for our daughter to watch movies/shows. After a week, it seems to be a very good quality unit! Although it comes with TONS of accessories, the battery seems to hold up well since we've gone on outings and we forgot to plug it in the whole time. I bought the Square Trade extended warranty just in case, but so far so good!

No more calls, we have a winner!
Have been looking since Christmas for a replacement portable DVD player. The $50 loss leaders were attractive but wanted something more substantial. Have had the Coby tablet for about a month and am very pleased with the unit.
As others have said, it comes with a full suite of accesories. 2 around the neck headphones, a carrier that fits on the back of a car seat, home charger, car charger, and a/v cables. Allows for BOTH output from AND input to as a monitor; a switch on the side selects. Takes a video input from a tuner (ie to use as a TV) very well and looks good. Lightweight, decent sound, good picture, well designed. Have to be careful with the backstand as it could easily snap off. A cut above the rest. Only criticism is over the remote; all keys are equal size and shape so you have to have a light on to use it.

I've had two of these for over a year....
I have had two of these for over a year and they are still awesome. We have not treated them kindly at all. They have been left in the hot car, left in a cold car, found on the floor of the car, dropped, left running and abused in every way a 12 and 5 year old boy can abuse them. they are still going strong.

I'd buy it again!!
This has been a great little portable DVD player. The battery life is great, It is durable enough to let the kids use in the back seat of the car while traveling. I have not had any problems with this product at all.
The sound is small, but the sound was small on all of these portable type players without head phones. I do wish it would remember where the movie was playing when you shut it off. It always starts the movie from the beginning.
I am very happy with it.

Stopped working after ONE MONTH.. HORRIBLE customer service!
This was great at first. As previous reviewers stated, the accessories were great, the picture was fine.. we loved it. For a month. Then it quit working.
I called Coby customer service and they said they would email me instructions on how to return the item. In this email they request a cashiers check for $15. PLUS I had to pay for the shipping back to them. SO, in order to get my DEFECTIVE product repaired I was going to have to pay in excess of $20 when I'd only paid $80 for the whole thing.
I called and complained about this policy but was basically told "too bad". I let them know that my first order of business was to come here and share my story and I was told "okay". SO here it is,, Buyer Beware. I'm not willing to spend $20 to ship back something that might conk out again as soon as we get it back. We are the proud owners of an $80 paper weight.

Best value in the portable DVD market, IMO
At first I was rather hesitant to buy this item due to the unknown brand "Coby". After reading the reviews around the internet, I decided to pull the trigger on this item. I'm so happy with the purchase. Great quality product with an amazing BUNDLE of accessories -- that are usually extra $$$ with other players. This is not meant to have tack-sharp 1080p resolution. This is not mean to be for audio/videophiles. It's meant to be a portable, in-car/plane player and as such it excels. It fells well built and not toy-like like most name Brands out there that I tried. Controls are SUPER, SUPER intuitive. The image is pretty good, again considering it's a $80 portable player, and the sound works fine for in-car situations as well. With the plethora of input/outputs it could also works for a in-room entertainment if you're staying at a hotel. In short, this is a great product without the extra $100 tacked on top just for a brand name.

So far, so good!
We bought this to be used when travelling with our 2-year-old. It works great for that purpose.
I love the tablet style. We had borrowed a friend's player in the past, and he could kick the player from his car seat. With this one, being flat, he can't reach it. That is the biggest 'plus'
It's easy to use, and the picture/sound are clear. The cords are all a good length for our vehicle #small SUV#. The only thing I thought was strange was that you can't control the volume with the remote. You can mute and un-mute, but the volume is set by a dial on the side. Not a big deal, we haven't needed to adjust the volume once a movie has started. And because of the way the mounting device works, all of the button and dials are accessible.
So far, we love it! For the price, I don't think it gets any better than this for kids.

Complete package for car trips
Product comes with all the parts needed to play a movie and attach the player to a headrest. Headrest keeps the unit attached without problem, but a little flimsy and switches often get caught and unit turned off as you take it in and out of the headrest. Sound quality and image are both good. Plays home burned DVD's in addition to published DVD's. Easy to use. Has worked perfectly without defect. Would buy the same unit again given cost and options.

Great DVD player for the price
Great little dvd player- tablet style with a great holder that will fit anywhere-- we used it in the rear-facing car seat on the front of the backseat, on the stroller handle, and it could fit on a crib or any area that has a bar to snap it on to-- lots in the box including a dvd player holder, and 2 headsets, a car charger, and a home charger. I have dropped this unit on concrete and it was fine and still works great- I just wish it had a brightness control but other than that its a great player for my 11 month old who loves baby einstein videos.

Good portable DVD player
Was looking for a portable DVD player for the car for our 22 month old grand-daughter for Christmas. There's not a lot out there to fit the bill and the actual kid players did not get good reviews. Was glad when I came across this one with good reviews from other parents. We have been pleased with it so far.

Buy another brand that lasts more than two-three months
Yeah, I went through two Coby DVD players in 3 months. The customer service is awful and the people who work at customer service are clueless. I would spend ten times more on a Sony, because it will last that much longer.

You get what you pay for...
I ordered this item so I could take it with me when I travel (Airlines Etc).
This unit has more cons than pros:
1). Screen quality: The screen has basically no protection and scratches easily.
2). Battery life: The battery doesn't last as long as I had hoped.
3). Screen problems: Best when looking downward at the screen, worst when looking up at it. (See below).
4). The built in stand is of poor quality. It's hard to watch movies when the screen keeps tilting away from you because the stand can't hold it in place.
Due to the design of the unit itself, the screen is constantly exposed and is rather easily scratched/damaged. I found light scratches on the face of the unit after only a few days of normal use (plug and play, turn off and walk away). Part of this could also be due to the fact that the case included with the unit is made of rough fabric which could explain some of the scratching.
The battery cell (Lithium-ion) lasts about 2 to 2-1/2 hours at the most if properly adjusted. (Smaller screen size setting and use of headphones). Two pairs of cheap headphones are included but I found them to be of poor quality and fit. Of course, if you leave the unit plugged into an AC outlet with the included power cable then you've got no problems here.
If you're, say, sitting in a car and you're looking at a downward angle toward the screen then there's no problem with the viewing quality. However, if you're like me and you sometimes enjoy a good flick before bedtime then you're going to have a hard time positioning the screen in relation to the user's viewpoint without losing the picture almost completely, it looks like a photo-negative at the wrong angle.
All things considered, I would say that this is a relatively good product for the price but it could use a redesign with more rugged parts (IE stand/Screen) at the very least.
It's fifty/fifty whether or not I would recommend this to anyone. As for myself I won't be buying a tablet-style DVD player again anytime soon.
I was wondering if the product plays music cd's good, can someone help

Very Good Product
Purchased this portable DVD player about a year ago and finally getting to writing a review. I have been very pleased with this product and would highly recommend to anyone else. It was one of the least expensive items I found so I was worried about its performance and durability. It has not had any issues to date. The picture is really great and even when traveling on the road during sunlight my daughter can still view the picture. The battery life is good and have been able to use it off the charger for several hours. I have no issues with the sound. It comes will everything you need in order to use it in the home or on the go. The only thing I wish it came with is a carrying case. The screen has some scratches now due to normal use and we never invested in a case. I take it for what it is, a very reasonable portable unit that works perfect for entertaining our daughter.

Works...for a while
I purchased this for my daughter about a year ago. To start everything was great. It's a pain to change out the dvd if you have it all strapped in the car, but no biggie. One good thing about this item is it does have battery. So if you are on that road trip and need to stop for gas but not drag the kids out-they can keep watching.
However, after a few months of owning it started freezing up and just stalling in the middle of the movie. Next thing you know some movies are not playing at all-so it's a guessing game of what is going to work today. Sometimes it will make it through the previews of a movie then just quit, other times we're not so lucky and the thing just won't start at all. I'm now shopping for new.
I guess for the price-you get what you pay for. It did the job for a while, but I don't think I'm going to waste my money on another Coby and time soon.

CAN'T GO WRONG!!!
After weeks of reseach, I came across this tablet style dvd player. I was looking to purchase a dvd player for a 19 hour trip that I was taking with my 3 y.o. daughter. After reading the reviews, I decided to purchase this tablet. I absolutely LOVE IT! It's an ingenious design. It came with a bag that strapped over the seat. I was able to retrieve the player from the bag easily while driving (keeping my eyes on the road, of course :-)). When there is a glare on the screen, I'll take it out of the bag and she can easily hold it in her lap. The buttons are easy enough for my daughter to use. It came with headphones which I had to replace with some that would stay on my daughter's head, but that was it. She has dropped it several times and it keeps on ticking.

Not a good purchase
Took my chances with a bargain player. Crapped out on this one. Player worked for approx. 3 months, then became very intermittent. Would play for 2 - 5 mins. then would stop. Thanks to Amazon for assisting with the return, as the shipper of the product would not cooperate. Am going to bite the bullet and purchase a sony.

Picture Failure after 3 months
We bought this product 3 months ago and in about 2 months the picture became VERY faded, to the point where you can't even see anything now. We called and had one day before the 90 day warranty expired and it cost us $12 to ship it and we had to send them a check for $18 to ship it back to us ( A Total of $30). I thought that was pretty poor for what you have to pay for the thing and for it only being 89 days old !
I bought this player for my daughter who is 13. We had 2 other portable players that just quit working with few hours of use. I purhcased this Coby version for Christmas and it is now almost June. There have been absolutely no problems so far. She is very careful with her things so it doesn't have to take alot of abuse. I don't know how it would be with smaller kids.
This is an AWESOME product, especially for the price. We used it for my 18 month old on multiple road trips, some of which I took solo. The remote is great because I can control the DVD player from the drivers seat and not have to worry about pulling over to press play once the menu pops up etc. The cords are also super long so that they can reach quite a distance (the car and home plugs). There is also no skipping, problems I have had in the past with other DVD players. I love all the gadgets it comes with as well.

Never played through an entire DVD
Put CD in and it played fine until the end of the disc. When it got towards the end of the movie it would skip a lot and eventually freeze up and go to a black screen. Ritzcamera was very good about returning the item though.

Very happy with purchase
The item arrived timely and was ready to go from the box. Very simple instructions, great audio and the screen displayed DVDs wonderfully. Audio with and without headphones was great. Used it to entertain my toddlers at a restaurant that we enjoy, but know that the service is slow. Also worked perfectly during a 350 mile drive to Disneyland (just me and the 2 kiddos.) Really love it! Only drawbacks are the headphones that come with it (2 pairs) aren't adjustable so neither comfortably fit an adult's or child's head well. Power button must be switched on manually, wish there was a remote function to power on device and the stand doesn't work as well, toppled over a few times but still kept playing the movie (great anti-skip). Would definitely recommend this player...and really great price.
We haven't any problems and hope we never will. We bought a warranty on it just in case being that the reviews on all brands of these are average. Works great in our mini van to keep the 3 year old occupied. Love the headrest holster compared to other brands.

Pretty good, but some strange choices in the interface
What to say? Well, it works. I'd give it a 4, because in general, its fine. Opening the whole top to put in the dvd is a little annoying, and overall its a little "bulgy". However, the major issue is with the menu navigation. For some insane reason, you can only hit up and down in menus from the front of the thing. Not left and right. In order to navigate around, you need the remote control (unless there's some secret I haven't figured out, and I program interfaces all day). I look pretty dumb in the gym holding a remote control 3 inches from the thing.
I think I'm going to shop around for one that's thinner, has the disk slot load, and doesn't need the remote. Keep this for a backup, though. It does play fine.

Good deal for the money.
Over all, this product works well. The screen resolution isn't the greatest but my child doesn't know the difference! I only have 2 complaints. The remote needs to be facing the front of the DVD player, so if you are driving you have to reach behind the seat to get it to register (kinda defeats the purpose). Second the screen is a really shiny plastic, so it scratches easily, especially when removing from head rest sleeve, I guess if I had known and kept the velcro away from the screen it would be fine. The scratches aren't noticeable when the dvd player is on. I'd recommend this to a friend, just be careful to avoid scratches and set up the dvd player before driving.

great for the price
After doing some research I came across this portable DVD player. What a great buy for the money. We needed a DVD player for the car to keep our kids occupied during long trips. Easy to install, two headphones, car charger, headrest bag....all we needed. The only thing we will need is a portable DVD bag to keep the DVD player and attatchments together. We had it for about a month and it works great. It also has cables to connect the DVD player to a TV...which should come handy next month on an overnight trip at a hotel.
Bought this for my daughter for her birthday. She loves it. Its something she uses when we're on the road. Picture is great and excellent quality. Not bad for the price.

Tablet style DVD player
There are a few things I noticed when I finally started to use this for our trip. It does not have very good instructions. I even went online to find out how to use it and I cannot find much. That is the worst part for me. There are lots of cords and plugs but I am not sure what to do with most of them. Also the headphones fall down and are very weird as you wear them on the back of your head and I can't keep them on my ears. I also can't figure out how to play the DVD through the car audio system. I would do ok if I just had better instructions! And I assume you have to charge up the batteries as there are rechargable batteries in it but I am not really sure how to do that. So trial and error I am afraid.

Great quality - very good picture - would buy again
We bought this for a vacation trip - we have an earlier version of the same brand and were very happy with it. We now have two children and needed a second dvd player for the car. We like the tablet style so we can hang it on the back of the seats AND still have the ability to take it into the hotel, etc and watch movies. As we researched the models and prices, this was a great fit - a really good value. It has great picture quality, it's very easy to use, AND everything you need is included right with it.
AWESOME PRODUCT
For the price this little 'coby' unit is Fantastic.
-Great Picture
-Comes with all sorts of attachments, adapters, headphones, carry case. I wasn't looking for anything extra, but with all the extra's included, I think I will find even more uses for this unit.
-Virtually no set up required
-I GOT IT MAINLY FOR THE "VIDEO IN" OPTION (not common on most players) - I AM ABLE TO WATCH MY DirecTV (and old VCR's if I wanted to) on this nice little screen sitting next to my computer. It needs to be attached with cord, but I can move it around depending on whatever part of the house I am in without having to run back and check out what in playing in the background on TV that caught my attention.
- DVD player is fine (I have given up on DVD expectations other than it works and does not skip all the time. No problems so far.) The only DVD issue one might have is that you really need to use the remote to control the DVD and the remote itself is compact (as it should be) so FF/REV SKIP etc. are not as ergonomic as most and kind needs to be looked at before pressing to make sure you got the correct button - if you are a 'blind-remote-surfer' type, it might be frustrating.
The only sort-of con is the TABLET format. It stands fine and is usually a good angle for viewing, but it can not be quickly and easily angled forwards or backwards like a player that has a more laptop open screen configuration. I am the type who seems to be constantly pushing my laptop screen front and back to get a more clear view (I guess I move around a lot) and notice I can't do the same with the tablet DVD player. Still would choose this over anything else I've seen for sale.
note: I don't know what the 'silver' is referring to, but my order said 'silver' and it arrived exactly like the picture. All Black around the screen and the lower portion that is set back (where the speakers are located) is off white. The only thing 'silver' is the four buttons and directional selector on the front. Looks good.
Bought this for a 10 hour trip to help occupy my daughter. Lots of nice features and accessories. Very happy with the purchase and would recommend. The only thing I didn't like about it was it didn't make popcorn but then what do you want for under $100.

DVD player is a "lemon"
Don't bother buying this product. I've had it for only a few days and after charging it for over 12 hours the battery goes low after 30 minutes of watching a movie. Plus, you can't charge the battery to the wall outlet while it's playing.
