[+] 10.0 BOUGHT FOR $70- WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Ok, First let me say i did not purchase this item online. I was at the mall and sam goody was going out of business and everything was 50-60% off! This lil beauty cost me 70 bucks and thats with tax! I got my moneys worth in the first week i had it. My son is 2 and completely obsessed with spongebob. There are occasions when we take him out and he acts 2 and all we do is pull this out, pop in the spongebob dvd and hes content and quiet. Even going to the doctors office or a restaurant ( like chilis, etc..) we can take it and its not a noise issue. It can be quiet enough to not bother people. and they would rather hear spongebob with their meal or in a waiting room rather a screaming 2 year old throwing a fit. Besides the fact it keeps our kiddo happy, the VAST accessories that come with it are enough. The a/v cables, the headphones, REMOTE, and car and home charger. WALMART has nothing on this. The cheapest model at walmart is 79.99 and it isnt as nice as this and doesnt have half the accessories.

If you have kids or you take alot of road trips, i really reccomend this. It has been more of a necessity to me then a luxury .

Hope this helps you guys.

[+] 2.0 Coby's do not last long. Google "wrong disc" error and Coby DVD.
This is a good DVD while to works but as you can see from other reviews and if you do any research (just google "coby wrong disc." After about 6 months of use itt just stopped working and is not fixable. I would go with a better brand and even pay more for the quality assurance. COBY IS JUNK! STAY AWAY! Also COBY customer service simply told me I was SOL. What a help they were...Find another brand.

[+] 10.0 Nice Portable DVD Player
This is a great little protable DVD player for the camper. We don't always take our laptop with us everywhere ... so this DVD player fits the bill. Of course like any other electronic device that has to run on a battery, it doesn't have as long of a charge as I would like.

[+] 2.0 A Good Disposable DVD Player
This DVD player worked great with light use for a little while. Then it said "No DVD" for certain DVDs. Soon it said "No DVD" for all DVDs.

It is now a good looking but worthless piece of electronics that I hope can be recycled.

[+] 2.0 Poor Battery Life & Broke after 3 uses
Well, I think my title says it all. When it was working it seemed like a good little dvd player. The first time I used it during a lay-over the battery died before the end of my 2 hour movie. It then broke for no apparent reason after only two more uses.

[+] 10.0 Bought this over two years ago...
I bought this player over two years ago for my son for Christmas. I was hesitant at the time because of mixed reviews. At the time I purchased it on sale through amazon for about 100.00. The player still works I'm very please with it. It has traveled with us on various trips and is used at home by family members. Past reviews which mention the player only working a couple of times and not working again may be cause by a little switch that sometimes is tampered with by children. The switch is an AV in and out switch. If the power button is on, the dvd is in the player, and you get a blank screen I'd suggest playing with the AV switch on the side of the DVD player.
Now there are plenty of portable players to choose from that are new and affordable- this review is just to inform others that after two years ours still works and we are pleased with it.

It worked fine the first day.
The second day it refuses to play any DVD. Keep getting "wrong disc" error when playing DVDs. It still can play CDs.

[+] 2.0 Keep breaking down with wrong disc
I bought one a year ago. It broke 8 months later although I did not use it that much. I got the Wrong Disc error message. I tried many disc with various format, including many which played on it before so I know that it was not a format problem. I searched the web and then found that this is quite common with Coby. I had to send it back for warranty repair which took over 2 months.

Guess what, it just broke again just a few days over a year from my date of purchase. No more warranty.

No only I will never buy another Coby. Get a quality brand and you have much better peace of mind.

[+] 10.0 Good Deal!!!
I bought this piece in 2005 so I am in a better position to comment on it as far as durability is concerned.I had bought it for around $150, and its around half the price now.I have dragged it,dropped it,thrown the remote but it has no complaints. Its really a nice one both indoors and oudoors if you want something compact and efficient.

Worked as expected. Great price. Quality of screen is below average, but that all depends on what you will use it for. Battery life is below average.

I bought this for my kids to use on long trips, and it works great. Nothing about it is exceptional, but it's all functional and hasn't broken down over dozens and dozens of movies played.

[+] 2.0 don't buy it
I bought the Coby TF-DVD-7100 player and it worked for about a half dozen movies before giving me a "wrong disc error" message. I wrote Coby customer service about this after reading on the web that many others have had the same problem, four months have gone by without a reply. They should be ashamed of the way they do business. Now let me tell you about my philosophy on purchasing something. When I buy an item I take care of it so I don't have to buy another, and I expect that item to give me reasonable service. If it doesn't, like more and more products we purchase these days, Then I never buy another product from that company again. I also take the time to let the company know there is a problem and give them a chance to rectify it, It's time consuming, but only fair.

[+] 4.0 Cony dvd player stopped working....
It won't play dvd's. I can still use the input feature, which is nice for hooking up a game console, and now, a seperate dvd player. I pretty much just use this as a screen now, which is annoying. I paid hard earned money for this. I wanted to be able to use it while traveling. ha not now. amazon shouldn't sell cheap stuff. I want my money back!!

[+] 10.0 Experenced Portable DVD shopper
This was the 1st of my 13 Portables and the only one i didnt sell it lasted HEAVY use and wear and tear for 9 months survived over 30,000mins of play time and 7 drops before the back broke. It still works tho it just wont stand now. This is my alll time fav Portable i normally like the Coby cause there cheap and they last long this modle is a little bulky but more durable and when useing it for more then just a road trip its very handy to have a sturdy modle. This is a good buy ^^

[+] 8.0 Bought two!
Works great. I used them on a 10,000 mile summer road trip from Alaska to Ohio and then the Oregon coast and back again. I used one as a master and plugged it into the "video in" on the second player. So everyone watched the same DVD at the same time. Then I plugged the audio out into the car stereo so everyone could here it, too. I opted for this method instead of buying a single system with 2 monitors because I like having 2 complete DVD players instead of just one player with two screens. Plus, when I take a longer flight, I have 2 batteries to take along.

The speakers aren't very loud so I suggest headphones for personal use.

[+] 2.0 Junk Junk Junk
I resent the fact that I can't give this DVD player "0" stars.

It used to work fine -- as a matter of fact, just about until the time that the limited warranty ran out. Now, after about an hour of use, it gets hung up and just spins around and won't go forward or backward or anything. Unplugging the player for 30 minutes (as Coby's trouble shooting guide suggests) does seem to "reset the player," but then it's only good for about another hour of use before the problem happens again.

Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

[+] 10.0 Bought two as gifts - awesome equipment
Like everyone else, I got one for my five year old to keep her amused on a cross country road trip. Survived and out performed expectations. Its made several air plane trips and long vacations tossed around in a back pack since and still works great. It has also crossed over as a DVD player for a small TV set we have using the plug in jacks it comes with. It is an outstanding value with an agreeably small foot print.

I bought an identical model for my 67 year old father to use on his trips and at home. He likes it and my daughter shows him how to use it. Now she can watch Barbie Princess movies and he can watch John Wayne on the couch together.

It has every accessory you will need and works out of the box.

You cant go wrong with it. I'd buy it again.

[+] 8.0 Great little companion
I love this little player. I have been using it for almost two years now and take it on several trips a year. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, because the built in sound is quite low and it was hard to hear on a plane with regular headphones. But things improved vastly with a noise cancelling set.

[+] 10.0 Never had a problem
There are a lot of reviews on here that put this little guy down, but I've never had a problem. I've had it for over a year, and I take it with me on the airplane every month when I visit my fiance. It fits nicely in my satchel, and the sound is decent. I have crappy headphones, but all I do is turn on the subtitles, which is easy enough to do through the setup button during play, or from the main menu.

You even have the option to change the contrast, brightness etc and screen size (16:9 and 4:3), which is great, no squashed or stretched images.

At home I don't have a TV in my computer room, so I set it up next to my desk and plug it in, since the screen is just the right size. I use it every few days, and even use it to test DVDs that I make using Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, and it runs them perfectly. Once in awhile a burned DVD will not work, but it's the DVD, not the player.

It says it will play PAL, but I haven't had a chance to try that out yet.

[+] 2.0 Good While It Lasted
This was a nice dvd player for about 15 months of limited use. Recently tried using it, and it started making loud grinding sounds. For some unknown reason, the player won't play anything past track #6 on any of the dvds I place in it. This seems consistent with many of the reviews on the site from people who have had the player for an extended period of time. My limited use of the player over 15 months was probably equal to 90 days of intense use, which ironically is the length of the limited warranty. My next purchase will probably be a Sony or Toshiba model.

[+] 2.0 Piece of junk
We purchased this player prior to a road trip. We have a 3 year old and wanted to keep him entertained for the 6 hour drive. We ordered the player and payed extra to overnight the player before we left on the trip. It came to the house and I hooked it up in my truck and it played no problem. The next morning there was a problem. All of out DVD's are legal. We kept getting Wrong Disk errors. After finally just smacking the player around out of frustration, it would play a few hours and then quit.

This is the worst DVD player I've ever come across. Don't buy it.
Plain and simple it sucks.

[+] 2.0 This is a piece of junk, don't waste your money!
You get what you pay for! I bought this for it's low price and I'm sorry now. Less than six months of use and it no longer works. I get a NO DISC error or WRONG DISC error for the majority of the DVDs I try to play. Some searching on the web has enlightened me that this is a common problem for this player, and of course it's out of warranty. I have tried contacting Coby with no response. If you want a disposable DVD player, this is the one for you.

I order this product for a gift and ended up keeping it...of course it wasn't opened until after the warrenty expired. The battery green light shows charged but never works when trying to use it for service. I don't know it the battery is bad or the player. I wouldn't buy this product again.

[+] 4.0 Possible P.O.S.
I literally just bought this thing for a flight home from Chicago a couple days ago, fully charged. I watched it for about 2 hours when the battery died. Then I plugged it into a TV at home, got about halfway through a brand new movie (no scrathes), and it started skipping. I basically had to skip the whole chapter just to finish the movie. I also noticed that the motor in it is quite loud when the airplane noise doesn't block it out (at home), good thing you mostly use these portables with headphones. I'd say go with a more established electronics brand that's known for it's quality.

[+] 2.0 Save your Money
Pay a few bucks more and get a reliable brand that will work for more than a few weeks and one that won't ruin your DVD's like this one. Get one that comes with a carrying case, they are a must for a portable and are expensive.

[+] 2.0 Probably nice....if it worked
Purchased this portable DVD player last Christmas. Unfortunately, after it was opened it was clear something was wrong as the motor made grinding sounds and it wouldn't load (naturally...) a DVD. I had chosen it based on reviews at the time and the price.
Alas, we shipped it back to Amazon and got a refund with no hassles! Because of the lack of quality control, I can only give it one star.

[+] 4.0 Good only for the short run
I received this as a gift, so have no idea where it's from. When it worked, for about the first nine months, it did a good job. Unfortunately either the battery or charger failed about then. Coby support VERY slowly said:
Return the unit to the retailer for an exchange..
If the retailer will not exchange the unit, then the product can be replaced by Coby Electronics.
Our units have a 90-day warranty. Any product that is out of the 90-day warranty is subject to an out of warranty cost to have the product replaced. Any product being returned without a receipt is subject to an out of warranty cost. The cost would be ( see # 3) .
To obtain warranty services:
1) Return the product to the below address:
Coby Electronics Corp.
Attn: Customer Service
56-65 Rust Street Maspeth, NY 11378 USA
2) Include a copy of the receipt
3) Provide a $65.00 Money Order for the return shipping of the replacement unit
4) Provide a detailed note stating what is wrong with the unit.

So, for half again its price, I would get a unit less than a year old replaced. Definitely not worth it. I'll buy another, but a different brand for sure.

[+] 2.0 Very Dispointed! Wish I had returned rather than changed
I bought this DVD on Aug. 14. When it arrived, I found that I cannot plug the power line into the AC Adapter. I called Amazon. The reps were very nice. But I made a mistake! I should have RETURNED it rather than replaced it!
The replacement came promptly. I took it on a trip for the first time use. Within a week, the power switch falled off. I was going to call Amazon again. But feel not worth it and thought I would just use the remote.

All in a sudden, on Nov. 11, whatever DVD I put in, it keeps saying wrong disc!!! All these are legal DVDs!!!

Now, I no longer can return this to Amazon! I don't know what I am going to do with it!

DON BUT THIS DVD PLAYER!!!

the Coby is everything you said it would be. Very pleased with the ease of operation and the quick charging time of four hours. Some others are 6 or 8 hours.

[+] 2.0 Don't get this one!
If you are buying a portable DVD player, don't get this one. It stopped working within 1 month of getting it. The motor for the spinner stopped working, and it would not even recognize that I put a DVD in. Also, even before that, it wouldn't play many of my DVD's. It behaved as if they were all scratched up, even brand new ones. All of my DVDs play just fine on any other DVD player. Plus, I had a brand new DVD that I tried to play on it (first time watching it), and it scratched up part of it so bad, that I can't watch the last 15 minutes on any DVD player.

Don't buy this DVD player, the Polaroid like it is much better. I had one for over two years before the battery stopped working well and I tried to replace it with this one. I now have another Polaroid one that I have no problems with.

I only gave this player 1 star, because I couldn't give it zero stars.

[+] 6.0 Its OK for the money-but
It was advertised as multi region 1-6 but it would not play European DVDs.
I bought it as a gift for a friend in Europe thinking it would be perfect for the region.
The biggest issue I had with it was that the item clearly was not new.
Scratches, screen protective plastic unstuck half way. After I checked it thoroughly I decided to keep it anyway as it would have been too much trouble to go thru the return process and I didn't have the time as it most likely would take weeks to get it back.

[+] 2.0 Use and Discard - Disposable product!
Initial impression was good product. Now I wish there were an option to give 0 stars. It died just after before end of 90 days of warranty after normal usage (lasted for around 10 movie views). Shows "No Disk" error. Customer service says that after 90 days it is all your problem and recommend to buy a new one! Sorry no more Coby products. Buy a product with 1 year warranty from a better brand.

[+] 2.0 Returned Two
I had to return two faulty DVD players. One would freeze frame the picture and the audio would keep on playing. The replacement DVD player kept saying "Wrong Disc" and was very very loud when it would actually play a disc. I ended up having to search and find a different DVD player all together because they wouldn't replace the 2nd faulty product. (Which was packaged inappropriately and possibly damaged in shipment).

[+] 4.0 Good While it Lasted
This player worked pretty well for 8 months and I used it a lot. I was a little annoyed by the humm it made while playing a movie. My husband says I am too sensitive to noise and calls me "bat ears" though so maybe it wouldn't bother most people. The real problem is the one mentioned by others: it konked out after 8 months and started giving me the "no disk" and "wrong disk" messages. We bought the extended warranty and NEW sent us a check for $119 without any hassle. But now I have to buy a new one and have been without it for 3 weeks already. Why can't someone make one of these things that will last?

[+] 8.0 coby 7100
Just received my dvd player yesterday so I might be a little premature writing this. My first impression is great. I would give this unit 5 stars if the sound was a little better. Its too soft if there is any background noise, like when in a car. When you use the headphones WOW. It will knock your socks off. I wish there were two sets of headphones for my two grandsons. I hope my unit continues to perform as it is now. Its a great bargain.
