[+] 2.0 Done with this... looking for a new one
This vacuum did Ok when I first received it. I needed something small to keep in the kitchen for quick pick ups only. After a while it lost its suction power. I need to throw it out because people keep picking it up and trying to vacuum with it. All it does now is trap dirt in the beater brush and spreads the dirt around. I will be purchasing another stick vacuum, and it won't be this one.

[+] 4.0 buy a real vacuum trust me
this sort of works for a little bit but it definitely doesnt vacuum like a real one. It loses suction very quickly, in like 3 minutes, because the dust will build up. After a years use, mine wont even pick up any dirt at all.

[+] 6.0 Only one "con", but it's a biggie.
For close to a year, I used this vac daily and loved it. It's easy to maneuver and did a sufficient job picking up cat litter and various dirt and small objects. However after about 8 months I noticed a significant decrease in suction as it took multiple passes to pick up simple dirt/litter from hardwood and linoleum. As it approached the one-year mark, after 1-2 minutes of use you could audibly hear the charge drop off. The problem here is the rechargeable battery is not replaceable, so a whole new unit is needed every year. Supposedly the new Accucharge model overcomes this limitation, so I'll be buying one of those soon.

[+] 10.0 Can't live without it.
This is a fantastic little machine that cleans up everything and anything. It's handy- we keep it right in the living room in its charger. We have two children and use it several times a day and it helps with almost every mess and spill.

[+] 2.0 Maybe I got a lemon...
I purchased this item based on some excellent reviews here but it was a huge disappointment. I have been meticulous about cleaning the filter and cup, but the suction is very weak. It will pick up dust and tiny dirt particles, but anything larger (e.g., toast crumbs) is either not picked up or requires multiple swipes or is picked up momentarily and then falls back to the floor. I never expected a stick vac to pick up large items or handle heavy dirt, but this one doesn't perform even light cleaning. We recommend you preserve the packaging and test it thoroughly in case you need to return it as we did.

[+] 2.0 Bad Battery
I bought this in July 09 and by the end of October 09 it only holds a charge for about 2 minutes. I loved it when it worked. I used it everyday and cleaned the filters after every use then returned it to it's charger. I guess I expected a $50 vac to last longer than three months. My understanding is that the battery is not replacable. I have contacted Dirt Devil and am waiting for a reply but I don't have great expectations because battery is not listed on their warranty.

[+] 4.0 Not worth the money
I purchased this vacuum in November 2008. After my initial honeymoon phase (being happy about the cordless part), well I might use it every couple months now. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, and all Pergo flooring. In the winter the brush on the vacuum does nothing but produce tons of static, making it impossible for the vacuum to suck up any pet hair at all. In the spring / summer, the little rollers on either side of it collect all the hair, so it must be turned off, picked up, and cleaned out every few minutes. I had very high hopes after reading all the positive reviews here, but unfortunately it just hasn't worked out for my living situation.

[+] 8.0 The dirt devil and god send?
Its light weight and can maneuver through pretty tight spaces. Also, the battery lasts a good length of time after charging and very easy to clean out the filter. However, I wish the suction was stronger.

[+] 6.0 NO REPLACEMENT BATTERY
I purchased this vac a little over a year ago. My original thoughts were its just an ok vac... I've owned my share of them..I have alot of birds so i constantly need something i can just whip out and clean up after them. I've owned probably everyone thats out there. I figured i was tired of replacing them so i figured this one was a little more expensive it will last longer. boy, i was wrong..it just died the other day so i thought i'd call dirt devil and just replace the battery..wrong again! they don't make a replacement battery for this vac. I had already purchased the extra filters months back and now i'm stuck with extra filters and a vac that won't charge. I think this is rediculous..they should inform the customers that there is no replacement. what a disappointment

[+] 2.0 Worst vaccume I have ever had.
This is a junk. It stopped sucking after a few times of use.
Then, it started spreading all the trash that inside the vaccume. instead of cleaning my house, it made a huge mess !!! I was so mad when it started doing this.
I totally wasted money on this. This vaccume is going to be in the trash can.

[+] 10.0 All the vacuum a small apartment needs.
I live in a small studio with a hard tile floor, where I've been using this vacuum now for over two years. It works like a charm! It leaves my floor squeaky clean.

I never wear shoes at home and I'm very aware of how a clean floor feels on my feet, this vacuum keeps it as clean and dust free as can be. I use it almost everyday. It has never broken, and the battery is still going strong, I can use it for no less than 10 minutes before the sound of the motor weakens (a sign of low battery charge).

I also have a small rug that I vacuum with the brush setting on, and I'm always amazed at how well this vacuum cleans that little carpet. It looks new afterwards. I actually use the brush setting all the time on the tile floor too.

I bought this vacuum because I hate cleaning and unless I find a way of making cleaning easy, I'll let the place go. I had a regular vacuum before, but dreaded using it because it was too much trouble plugging it in, wrapping the cord, changing the bags, with this little vacuum I don't even think about it, I usually vacuum my entire apartment in the space of one TV commercial!

This little vacuum is a lazy man's best friend.

[+] 10.0 Love it, easy to use and VERY convenient
I bought this Stick Vac for my parents to use in their multi-level home. They're both in their 80's and hauling their regular vacuum up and down the stairs was tedious and dangerous. Saw a review of this Dirt Devil Stick Vacuum in "Consumer Reports" magazine, they rated it very highly and combined with Amazon's GREAT price and shipping policies, buying it was a no brainer. The vacuum is very light weight, easy to use, and recharges quickly when needed (although it doesn't seem to need recharging very often). They have hardwood floors with an occasional throw rug and the vac works well on both. Not only would I recommend it, I purchased a second one for myself!

[+] 8.0 pretty good - very handy
This is so convinient for quickly getting a mess cleaned up. So much nicer than getting out the big vacuum and plugging it in and dragging it around the house. I have mostly harwood and tile in my house and that is why I got this. I have used this on small amounts of carpet and it seems to do the job, but I wouldn't reccommend for just using on carpet. It is very easy to dump the collection chamber, but the filter seemed to be full of lint in mine and I need to figure out how to clean that out so it won't effect suction. Guess I need to get the instructions out. The longest I have used it for is about 15 minutes and it worked fine the whole time. I did leave it off the charger after that and when I went to use it the next time it died after about 5 minutes. So just make sure you put it back on the charger each time used. I love this overall and it is so easy and kind of fun for me to just grab up and clean up the babies crumbs all over the house.

[+] 4.0 Not worth the money
I think I would rather have one of the manual, push sweepers for small jobs.
This vacuum was broken within a few months of use. The more I read about Dirt Devil, the more I hear that they break quickly. Think twice before you spend the money on this one.

[+] 2.0 Lost suction power very quickly
Its like my kid. It just wont pickup anything completely from the floor. I would have to use something else to finish the job. The worst vaccum I ever bought. My older Black & Decker CHV9600 9.6 Volt Cyclonic DustBuster Portable Vacuum Cleaner, which I planned to replace with this, does a better job, only I have to bend with that one.

I ordered this so I could have a lightwieght tool to get our hardwood bedroom floor and under the bed and down the stairs . I have three large dogs and to drag my big Dyson up and down the stairs everyday became tough and painful. This machine is perfect to get under the bed, and for the everyday quick vacuum of the upstairs and is easy to clean and keep clean.

[+] 6.0 Great Power, But...
I just purchased the Dirt Devil Extreme Power Stick Vacuum Cleaner because I have some physical issues that make it difficult for me use a heavy vacuum cleaner and bend down to use a dust buster. And, although it does have great suction power, I've already had some annoying issues with it...

1. I have 4 dogs, which leads to a lot of hair balls throughout my home. Although it picks these up, within 1 to 2 minutes it won't pick anything up anymore because the hair gets caked into the vacuum brush - so I have to keep stopping to pull the hair out.

2. The "deposit cup" is pretty small - I can only do about 1/4 of a room before it's full.

Now, if you don't have a lot of pet hair to deal with, and plan to use this for smaller jobs, I would recommend it (like I said, the suction power is excellent), but if you have a lot of pet hair in your home, I would pass on this vacuum.

[+] 10.0 Best little vacum
This is by far the best tool I have had in a long time.
It is powerful, easy to clean, always ready when I need it.
I have both hard wood floor and wall to wall carpeting as well as tiles in the bathrooms.
With 2 indoor cats and one dog, I use my dirt devil several times a day... love it!
Why did I wait so long to buy it when it makes such a difference in my daily life?

[+] 4.0 Would not buy it
I bought this product after reading the reviews and was very disappointed. Its power didnt last more than 20-30 mins even after charging it all the time. The most irritating factor was the dirt falling off from it while lifting it or even while placing it on its stand/Charger. I would definitely not recommend it and I am returning my vacuum cleaner.

[+] 4.0 Not powerful enough
I have ceramic tile floors throughout my kitchen, dining room, bathrooms and hallway, so I thought this would be perfect for those last minute pick-ups when company is coming over. I have 3 cats that track tiny litter balls across the tile, but it won't pick them up. Although it's light and easy to use,I end up going over things repeatedly to try and pick them up. It ends up hurting my back and taking more time than it would to pull out and run the regular corded vacuum. If you have grout, forget it - it doesn't have enough power to get anything in the grout. On my floor it is really only good for removing hair and dirt from the tiles, even little dried leaf pieces remain. It also doesn't pick up very well on throw rugs or carpet. I waited too long to 'give it a chance' and now cannot return it. I bought the Eureka Quick Up for less, and LOVE it. It works as good as the big vacuum on the floors, even picks up the kitty litter!

[+] 8.0 Devil of a good machine
I moved into a home with polished concrete floors and needed something to do touch ups on the concrete and the various rugs I have. I looked at many other cordless vacuums and after reading the reviews chose this one. It took the 16hours to charge that some have complained about, perhaps for those folks a corded one would be more to their liking.
There are two settings on the vacuum one is just plain vacuum and another is suction with the rotating brush. I have found the best results is had if you clean out the debris chamber often and making sure the filters also are cleaned often.
For the price this is a very usable vacuum. I park it in a closet that has a electrical and pull it out when needed. This will not replace your more strong vacuum but it will be very handy on those days when all you need is a quick pick me up.

[+] 10.0 4 years daily use ... still as good as new!
I'm a 63 year old grandmother with 4 grandchildren. I've owned this cordless Dirt Devil stick vac for about 4 years now. Received as Christmas gift from my daughter ... so I returned the favor and sent one to my daughter for her birthday this year. Very pleased with the pickup power of this handy little vac. Hate fighting with power cords - this one just stays in its charging base for quick and easy use as needed. The charge lasts through all my hard surfaces (foyer, kitchen, breakfast area, bath, utility room) standing up the pile on the living room carpet walkways ... and still has power! Actually I've never run the charge all the way down since I've had the vac. Can't say enough good stuff about this little machine.

[+] 2.0 Loses suction in under two minutes!
I've owned this vacuum for almost three months now. When I first bought it, it was GREAT. The suction stayed steady while I cleaned for a good 25 minutes before the charge wore out. Now, I turn it on, start vacuuming, and within two minutes (seriously!) I hear the vacuum get much quieter and the dirt it's picked up in the canister goes from a full swirling motion to barely moving. And no, the canister isn't full and nothing is clogged up anywhere that I can see. Arghhhh! I just upgraded to a Hoover Linx cordless vac today which has a different type of rechargeable battery that is supposed to be much better. We'll see what happens!

[+] 8.0 DIRT DEVIL EXTREME
I just purchased the Dirt Devil Extreme and have used it four times and it works well. It is not a heavy vacuum and so you cannot just give it alot of tug, but it works well. I used it for the floors and my throw rugs and it picks up everything without delay. It folds so it will store it a small closet. The charger is not that attractive, but it serves its purpose. Overall, you get a good value for the funds spent, since the vacuum does do the job.

[+] 4.0 Good while it lasts...
I bought this vacuum about two years ago at The Home Depot for my hardwood floors. It worked perfect for about a year. Then, the problems started. First, the suction was not as strong so I cleaned everything I could remove until it was spotless. It worked better for a while, then the spinning mechanism stopped working altogether. If it tells you anything this vacuum was sold in a yard sale for $20. I have gone back to a broom and dustpan.

I really like this vacuum. It sweeps carpets much better than I thought it would and is great on hard floors. It doesn't dig deep into carpets like a plug in vacuum does, but it picks up pet hairs and surface dirt really well. I highly recommend this product.

[+] 8.0 GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY
THE DIRT DEVIL EXTREME POWER STICK VACUUM IS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT FOR IN- BETWEEN CLEANINGS AND PICK-UPS. IT IS LIGHTWEIGHT, MANEUVERABLE AND HAS SUITABLE SUCTION FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS. THE POWER BRUSH FEATURE IS GREAT FOR CARPETS. THE BATTERY LIFE IS SUFFICIENT FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES OF CLEANING AND THE VISABLE DIRT STORAGE ALLOWS ONE TO SEE WHEN THE VAC REQUIRES EMPTYING. THE RECHARGE UNIT IS COMPACT ENOUGH FOR OUT OF THE WAY STORAGE. A GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY FOR SUPPLEMENTAL CLEANING.

[+] 6.0 Handy
It has kind of a high pitched squeal (still scares the dog like the 12 amphoover windtunnel i have lugging around) when its running and the engine sounds like its going to die when I use it. It was charged when I got it & hasnt gone dead yet. Picks up pet hair well. A lot handier to pick up & use in a hurry without tripping over cords. The thing I hate....is that to empty the cup (which it seems like you have to clean after every use or it sounds weak) you have to stick your fingers in the dirty filter to lift it out to empty the cup. Stupid design. It looks nasty after less than 10 uses. I almost returned it the first time I used it because I couldnt open it.

[+] 8.0 Nice product but not so much for kitty fluff...
I was looking for an inexpensive, cordless sweeper so I didn't have to drag out the big vacuum or try to chase the fluff bunnies around with a broom. Our house is almost completely hard flooring and we have seven cats so the latter scenario has been commonplace.

Unfortunately, I don't think this vac is the best for what I was wanting for several reasons. One, it doesn't get right up along the wall nor does it have attachments to help it do so. Since this is where the fluff tends to collect, it means I have to get my broom out anyhow to sweep these things to the middle of the floor. On the other hand, at least I don't have to try to catch it in a dustpan. Second, the dust reservoir is incredibly small. Hand vac small. It looks bigger because of the design of the filter but it is really only the bottom quarter of the "tank". Not a problem if you're just using it for spot cleaning the dirt just tracked in but the kitty fluff takes up a little more space and means emptying it at least once during a run. Last, the kitty fluff wreaks havoc on the beater bar. This is going to be true on pretty much any model but seems to be more so in this case. I spend what seems like a third of my cleaning time removing things from the roller.

This all said, I still give it four stars because it does work somewhat for my uses and very well for more conventional uses. If you're looking for something just to pick up the little spills and such, especially for carpet, it should serve you well. When I cut my son's hair, I let it all fall onto the rug and this sucker (pun intended) picked up every strand without a problem. On the hard flooring, it easily gets the dust and dirt but is less effective on small items as it tends to try to push things around before picking them up. Turning it on the carpet setting so the roller bar could help push things in the right direction seemed to help.

[+] 2.0 Far less effective than a hand vac
With lots of tile and a cat, I really wanted a lightweight, cordless vac that I could zip around the kitchen and hall every day or so, just to get up the visible crumbs and hair. (Getting out the big vac that often is never going to happen!) On that basis, after over a year of trying, I have to declare this vac a failure. Here's why:
-- The cup won't tolerate more than a tablespoon of (very fine) debris before it quits drawing. (I promise, the filters are clean, almost insanely clean.) That gives me 1-2 minutes of use before I have to empty the canister.
-- As others have noted, it is not powerful enough to pick up anything heavier than dust or cat hair puffs. It sometimes picks up some stray litter on a nearby rug, but not consistently.
-- Also noted previously, the canister is tricky to re-install - I always have to try several times before it clicks into place.
For the time it takes dealing with all these shortfalls, I could've just hauled out my big vac and done a great job. Instead I end up annoyed and frustrated, and with very poor clean-up results.

I don't quite get why a stick cordless should be weaker than a hand-held cordless vac, since it is primarily just a hand-held attached to a stick. But in this case, it IS dramatically weaker. (My Dirt Devil Kone hand-vac is 10x more powerful and has 4x the dirt capacity!) So, reluctantly, the Power Stick is going to Goodwill and I'm just going to use the Kone.

[+] 10.0 Great on hard surfaces!
I love this stick vac. In fact it's the second one I've purchased. I bought the first one about 4 years ago. It still works fine but doesn't hold a charge for long. I have a lot of hardwood and tile floors (about 2000 sq ft). This vacuum is great for quick yet thorough pick ups. It gets all the pet hair, dust bunnies and stuff from the kids. It's nice not to have to deal with a cord. It only does a fair job on carpet...even low nap like an entry mat.

[+] 4.0 Not powerful enough
I bought this product due to the price and good reviews. However, it does not have near enough suction to clean even a low pile area rug. It does not get any lint out of the carpets at all and you have to go over the same spot over and over again in order to get it just a bit clean and even after that, there is still crumbs there so I have to go over it with a regular corded canister vac which I was trying to avoid by purchasing this. Its best used for hardwood floors and tile but forget it if you want to use it for carpets. My little handheld Shark vac
does a better job. Very disappointed with this and just received a Roomba for xmas so now the Dirt Devil just sitting in a corner gathering dust.

[+] 6.0 Loses its suction power pretty quickly
This vacuum was awesome for the first couple of weeks, but after that it seemed to lose some of its suction strength. It just hasn't been as good since, even after changing the dust filter. It will lose suction almost totally if the dirt cup is slightly full and/or the dust screen (the nylon fabric one, not the replaceable one) gets clogged. Every time I use it, I have to empty the dirt cup and knock all the dust out of the screen or it won't work the next time. Sometimes I have to stop and do that after only a few minutes of use, because it just stops picking stuff up.

It is handy and light, and easy to get around furniture and into small places. I have hardwood floors and use it for picking up bits of litter that my cat tracks around, dirt tracked in from outside, and vacuuming area rugs. On the rugs though, I have to apply considerable downward pressure and sort of scrub it back and forth to get it to pick up stuff that is stuck to the nap. If you're just using it to vacuum up pet hair, it will work fine, but it will only pick up very light debris - like, it would probably pick up grains of rice, but not a half a peanut (or even a half of a half of a peanut).

It's useful and I'm glad I got it, but I don't count on it to do a super thorough job. There are times when it's actually more trouble than it's worth because I end up going over the same spots again and again. Often I end up hauling out the larger vacuum or a broom and dustpan because they are more effective and faster.

Bottom line: good enough for picking up crumbs and a quick once-over before company comes, but use a real vacuum if you want things to be actually clean.

[+] 10.0 It's Handy...and Dandy!
This Dirt Devil Power Stick is easy to put together, easy to place on its charger and so easy to use. I live in a one-bedroom apartment, so with the hardwood floors, the vacuum works great for getting those dust bunnies, and the area rugs get the brush-mode setting - and the results are great from this light-weight, powerful li'l guy.

[+] 4.0 Doesn't suck all that well.....
I bought this as a present for my wife. Read all the reviews and picked this one becuase of most of the reviews were positive (at the time). I did see a few others mentioning that it did not seem to suck as well as they would like. I chose to go with the majority that said it was great.

Well, unfortunatley our does not do so well we have a 5 year old corded bissell that is falling apart more or less that does better than this one does. We use it for cleaning the tile floors of the kitchens and bath. We tested em out by first cleaning with the new cordless then following up with the old corded bissell. This one missed some visible stuff and the old Bissell picked it right up.

We do love the idea of the cordless and the carpet brush. But just cannot live with its suction. So far Amazon has not done so well with responding to our inquires either. Hopefully that will change soon!

[+] 8.0 lightweight, easy to use vacuum
I needed something light and easy to use as an everyday vacuum, and this one does the trick. No cords, decent suction, perfect for daily sprucing.
