[+] 4.0 Peace in the Valley/Elvis
There are 3 disks in this "complete gospel" album. While some are wonderful, many are poor as they were only "jamming" sessions and outside of Elvis' vocal range. I'm glad I didn't buy the recording and pay full price.

[+] 10.0 Elvis doing what he did best
Singing Gospel Music. It's what Elvis loved the most, and what he did better than any mortal who ever lived on this earth. This incredible 3 CD set has every Gospel song ever done by the King - The 1 EP, three LPs, live performances, rehearsals, jam sessions. No one could do Gospel Music better than Mr. Presley & of all the various genres (rock, country, ballads, blues, etc.) Gospel was what he loved the best. I could listen to this music around the clock & it would never get old. Whether atheist or Bible Believer - YOU NEED THIS MUSIC - you'll never be the same. Thank you Elvis!!

[+] 10.0 Beautiful and Inspiring
I'm a huge Elvis fan and I love his gospel songs. He sings them so beautifully and they are so uplifting. This box set is a worthy addition to any Elvis fans collection. I like that there are also some live songs and some outtakes in this box set.

[+] 10.0 Inspiring
This is a wonderfully inspiring three disc collection of recordings by a person I feel puts his heart and soul into his gospel songs. How grand to hear the King of Rock pay homage to his Lord, the source of his "one of a kind" vocal talent. The impromptu recordings, including one where Elvis sings bass, I find especially enjoyable and touching. A few of the songs are done more than once but there are some that should be done more than once. This collection may not include all the gospel songs Elvis ever did but it a large uplifting, moving collection and well worth the price.

[+] 10.0 The origins of Elvis
Elvis, no doubt was the father of rock, but he was a communicator of feelings as well.
Many good singers, may I add, started their singing careers in church, as I believe Elvis started his.
He never lost passion for his religious origins, and was wery enthisiastic when talking about it.
The renditions of his music in this CD reveal some of that fire that inspired this legend.
He departs from conventional singing, incorporates some of the different styles of American folklore to it, and develops his own.
I believe that in his day, some religious music conservatives were alarmed by his style; and I can speculate that whoever wanted to imitate him in his time could have been alineated from performing in certain congregations.
Now all this is part on the religious mainstream.

[+] 8.0 A good complement to Elvis' "Amazing Grace" CD
This is a good complement to the CD "Amazing Grace" Elvis' Greatest Sacred Performances. Many of the songs are the same, though Peace in the Valley has many older performances on CD #3. There are quite a few songs from the "Million Dollar Quartet" session in 12/4/1956 with Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

[+] 10.0 Elvis - Peace in the Valley
I have most of these songs on casette. When I bought my new car there was no more casette player so I was very happy to see that my favorite songs are on this collection. I did not enjoy the beginning of tape 3, because it sounded more like Elvis was in the backroung. The rest of the tape was much better. The other 2 tapes were excellent.

[+] 10.0 Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord the guys at SonyBMG to come out with the collection. For the first time, the Lord's songs are placed in one super comprehensive. This is a must buy for all Elvis fans and this is the best way to know the Lord. It is a great listen any time. It is soothing and has the best lyrics for life. It is cheerful and hopeful. Although Elvis has gone to the Lord for 30 years, your contribution to contemparary Christian music will be remembered forever. Forever and ever, Amen.

[+] 10.0 Boy, this is fun!
Elvis Presley's gospel recordings are among his best recordings. In fact, the three Grammys that Elvis won were for gospel recordings. This three CD collection features Elvis Presley's "complete" gospel recordings. Of course, it's not actually entirely complete. The Christmas related gospel songs are not included, nor are the many alternate versions of most of the songs here. But they were right to leave those recordings off, we don't need ten versions of "Reach Out To Jesus". So, what is here? Elvis' three gospel albums, the "Peace in the Valley" EP, every other studio gospel recording, a few live performances, some of the Million Dollar Quartet songs, some home recordings and more. The Million Dollar Quartet was Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash having a jam session at Sun Studios (Johnny Cash left before the tapes started rolling). The home recordings feature Elvis singing songs with his friends at home (some of these recordings are of poor sound quality). These CDs feature Elvis at his best. Elvis always put his heart into a gospel song. I highly recommend this collection.

[+] 8.0 This CD is great!
Elvis sings gospel songs like no other! Some of the songs are a litte rough but you have to realize some songs were recorded in his home or at the studio while he is just playing around. The first disc is more of the released songs while some of the songs on the other CD's are live versions or unreleased versions with him laughing and talking. I thoroughly love this set!

[+] 10.0 Elvis at his best
Great, great, great! As you probably know, Elvis was deeply religious, and this is reflected in the especially heartfelt performances he gave of gospel songs, as you can clearly hear in this 3-CD set "Elvis: Peace in the Valley." He also gathered very talented backup singers to accompany him, including J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, the Jordanaires, and the Imperials, and they add greatly to the recordings. Heck, these performances are so beautiful that they always bring tears to my eyes, and I'm Agnostic! All four of Elvis's gospel albums are contained here complete - "Peace in the Valley," "His Hand in Mine," "How Great Thou Art," and "He Touched Me." Plus there's a lot of additional material too, from TV shows, movies, religious songs released as singles or on secular albums, home recordings, informal studio recordings, and concerts. After all, the subtitle of this is "the COMPLETE gospel recordings." Actually, a few of these songs probably should have been left out because of poor recording quality (mainly the home recordings), and a couple of songs where Elvis was kidding around on recordings he did not intend to be released. One could avoid these by getting the 2-CD set "Amazing Grace: His Greatest Sacred Performances," but the problem with that idea is that you'd be missing out on some great recordings included on this 3-CD set. So I would recommend this 3-CD set as the best compromise. In fact, for my own listening I re-recorded CDs 2 and 3 of this, leaving out some of the marginal tracks, and adding some other inspirational songs that Elvis performed, such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "An American Trilogy," and "If I Can Dream." Too bad BMG didn't ask my opinion about this!

BMG did a great job of putting all this together. For one thing, they did well in remixing and editing these songs. If you bought the original CD release of the album "How Great Thou Art" as I did, that was mixed terribly and had an awful hollow sound to it. All that has been corrected here, and this CD set sounds great. Usually, the sound levels of the songs have been set well, with just 3 or 4 either too loud or too quiet. The packaging is very attractive too, and the booklet contains a very interesting essay on Elvis's connection to gospel music, as well as pages of data about the songs. It would have been helpful, though, if there were more information given on the origin of some of these recordings, such as mentioning what movie or TV show a song was taken from, or where the home recordings were made. Someone not very familiar with Elvis would be puzzled about where some of this came from.

Putting these minor reservations in perspective, "Elvis: Peace in the Valley" is a fine, beautiful, and attractive CD collection that will bring much enjoyment to people of all religious persuasions.

[+] 2.0 Peace in the Valley:the complete gospel recordings-Elvis
Friends of mine played Elvis' 'Amazing Grace' CD for me - it was wonderful. When this album said it contained 'complete' gospel recordings, I expected it to be 'Amazing Grace' Plus - many of the songs are simply Elvis & a bunch of guys 'jammin' - the versions of the songs are different from 'Amazing Grace' & I don't like the album at all & will not use it - I wish I had ordered 'Amazing Grace'

[+] 10.0 Excellent
An excellent compilation of gospel songs. Elvis at his best. I enjoy getting to hear Elvis having a laugh and just having fun with his friends on one of the discs. I especially loved How Great Thou Art and He Touched Me. These are amazing songs sung by an amazing performer. With nearly 30 spiritual and traditional hymns on each of the three discs, there is something for everyone.

Something I love about Elvis is that he wasn't ashamed of his Savior and didn't care what the rest of the secular world felt about it.

Although I've never been a huge fan of Elvis, my father is a gospel music fanatic. I purchased this item for him for Christmas, and he has not stopped playing it. I've had the opportunity to listen to a large portion of it, and I must say that his voice is a wonderful soothing tribute in this album. Certainly, you are receiving a wonderful deal when purchasing this item.

[+] 10.0 WHEN ELVIS SINGS IT, YOU BELIEVE IT
I grew up with Elvis' gospel records and the thing that still strikes me about his renditions of gospel music is the emotional depth and sincerity in them. He really believed every word he sang and it comes through brilliantly. This collection showcases Elvis doing the kind of music he was raised on and the music that was most special to him. His arrangements are sometimes tender "Stand By Me", "Reach Out To Jesus" and "Crying In the Chapel" and other times joyous and wonderfully rowdy "I, John", "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot" and "So High". The recording session tracks are also a welcome part of this collection..they show Elvis having fun singing his favorite music...you can almost hear the smile on his face. My advice is to get this collection..you won't regret it. Keep it in the car..it's a great antidote to road rage!

[+] 10.0 Elvis was made to sing Gospel!
Very powerful performances and of course Elvis' voice is unmatched. He was made to sing Gospel. The only Grammys he won were for his Gospel recordings. An excellent collection. It includes not only official studio recordings, but also unofficial rehearsal recordings and some of the "Million Dollar Quartet" sessions. Some of these recordings are kind of rough and on others Elvis is obviously just playing around. If you are just wanting a collection of his more polished Gospel offerings, I would recommend the 2 CD "Amazing Grace" collection or the single CD "Ultimate Gospel" album. But if you want every Gospel song Elvis sung, this is the collection for you!

[+] 10.0 THIS WAS THE MUSIC ELVIS WAS BORN TO SING
I'm in agreement with E. Lambeth's Spotlight review. I was born in 1960 and I was lucky enough to have a mother who absolutely loved the BIG E. Mom never owned or played any of his Gospel music, except for the handful of Hymns from his wonderful CHRISTMAS ALBUM. (That record was the family favorite.) Recently I've been rediscovering the roots of my upbringing in music and buying a lot of Elvis Box Sets, movies, and Live DVD's. I love E'S Gospel hit CRYING IN THE CHAPEL and I wanted some of his Gospel recordings. I made the mistake of purchasing the single CD, ELVIS ULTIMATE GOSPEL. By the end of the first listen I knew I had made a tremendous error. It was such a gorgeous experience I was overcome with AWE. I wanted more. I needed more. Brothers and Sisters, I had sinned. I was coveting. Friends, do yourself a favor, commit a sin and buy this Box Set. You're gonna need it too. If you have to, cut back on the tithes for a month. Jesus will forgive and understand that it's necessary for your soul. The first 2 discs contain mostly the great production values of his best Gospel Hymns and a few Live ones, while the 3rd disc contains some alternate takes and many acoustic impromptu jams that remind me of E's '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL. Brothers and Sisters, I'm here to testify, this is raw, in-the-spirit, kicking-up-a-noise-for-the-Lord Gospel.

I just finished reading THE LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS and I'm in the middle of reading CARELESS LOVE. Elvis' first love was Gospel. He sang in church as a boy, admired the best Gospel groups of his day, and played Gospel music all the time in his home at Graceland. When Elvis recorded in the studio, it was always about the feeling at the session. Sometimes for a ballad he'd lower the lights in the studio for mood. Sometimes he did 30 takes and ended up on the floor in a cold sweat before he was happy with a song. But, listening to Elvis sing Hymns, it's quite obvious to me that his love for God and Man was so deep, that THIS WAS THE MUSIC HE WAS BORN TO SING. And Thank God for us he did. Nothing else in Elvis' catalog even comes close to the magic of his gift for Gospel. IF YOU DON'T OWN HIS GOSPEL RECORDINGS, YOU DON'T KNOW ELVIS.

(SOME UNUSUAL TRIVIA ABOUT ELVIS: After the Bible, Elvis' search for spiritual truth brought him to read and study many books on Eastern, Hindu, and Buddhist philosophy. For many years, Elvis visited with his Master who was a Yoga Mystic. Elvis understood that all faiths, not just Christianity, were a path to a higher power. Now, that's a Man of God. Very progressive thinking for a man that many people considered to be an uneducated hillbilly. At one time, Elvis thought of giving up his career and becoming a monk. I can't imagine a world without Elvis Presley. Can you? But, Elvis was made to realize that the gift of his voice was God's reason for his existence and the only way to serve and repay God's kindness to him was to sing and make people happy. That makes me happy and I admire Elvis even more as a Man of Faith. Although, it made me sad about the way he and the Colonel treated his first spiritual mentor, Larry Geller. But, Elvis was just a man and lived such an unusual existence with his entourage that it's forgivable. Read CARELESS LOVE for the whole story.)

Too bad Elvis never toured and filmed a complete Travelling Salvation Show Gospel Revival. That would have been something. Maybe when we all make it to Heaven, Elvis will greet us at the Pearly Gates with a fully robed Gospel Choir and some kicking Jesus music. That's my idea of Heaven, baby. HALLELUJAH!!!

ENJOY.

[+] 10.0 This is where Elvis shines
There should have been much, much more Gospel from Elvis. Maybe there would have been with better management. He should have sang "Why Me, Lord?" for 20 minutes instead of "Suspicious Minds". This is a beautiful collection.

[+] 10.0 If it wasn't for gospel music, we wouldn't have the king!
This is, in my opinion, the most beautiful Elvis box set I have ever purchessed in my life. This three CD set features every single gospel recording Elvis ever made and in my opinion his 1960 album His Hand In Mine is the greatest ever. It will bring you to tears when you hear him sing Known Only To Him, He Knows Just What I Need and I Believe In The Man In The Sky. Elvis sounded so good singing these songs and for some reason Crying In The Chappel didn't show up on the album. However it was released as a single in 1965 and it is truly one of the greatest. This is a great set for not only Elvis fans, but true gospel fans also. God bless BMG for this graet set.
