Enya - Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya

This CD can reach many audiences, instrumental,vocal, world, soundtracky. An essential for any music lover.

My grandson does not just fall asleep when I'm watching him. He is either teething or just plain fussy at times. I had just bought Enya's Paint the Sky with Stars and decided to play it for him. It instantly calms him down as he really pays attention to the music. In a very short time, he is peacefully sleeping. I've tried other music, including classical. It just does not relax him. I absolutely love her music! When I'm trying to do homework, I used to listen to classical music because there were no words to interfere with my concentration. When I listen to Enya, I don't have that problem. I'm totaly focused and able to accomplish a lot!

My oldest daughter is incarcerated right now in Nevada. We got her two Enya CDS and she said this one made her feel the freest she has been in the time she has been in prison. She was so grateful for this and said she may give it to her youngest sister when she gets home to share with her.

I have been without my music for four years, and I forgot just how lucious Enya is. This is soul soothing, Celtic music with the beauty of her perfect voice blending over the back-up band -- Gorgeous.

I have never heard a bad Enya recording -- so whatever you choose, I believe that you will find a little bit of heaven when you close your eyes and let the sounds wash over you.

If your new to Enya this is a good little introduction.
Some classic tracks, but a few throw away ones as well.
Not a must have.
But if your curious....get it.

I purchased this new. The case was busted. I would have returned this item. However, I bought this as a gift. I have always trusted Amazon, and been very satisfied in the past.
Very disappointed.

Wonderfully relaxing, love celtic music, best of is perfect .

This cd is great for sleeping. I started playing cd this week for my 14 month baby, He loves the sounds. very relaxing. hard to find a music cd that has most of all the good/great songs. A ++++++
I really recomend this cd to everyone. By the way I got 2 of the same cd.. I also listen Enya cd in the car, it is great when you are in traffic ... love this product

Wow! what can i say? i just love enya, her voice is so enchanting and soothing. i listen to her songs everytime i feel like low and moody, her songs is just so perfect for the moments. it makes me feel like im in heaven and the angels were singing to me, it's lkie i'm floating and dreaming. Oh good lord her songs are so relaxing. my fave songs are "orinico flow", "only if" and "anywhere is", these songs really saves my day..

If you're not familiar with Enya, or you've maybe heard a couple of songs and would like to hear more, this is the perfect CD to start with. It contains her hits and some of her best known and best loved songs: Orinoco Flow, Caribbean Blue, Only If.., etc. etc. Of course, with Enya, many times I have found that her lesser known songs are my favorites, but that's an entirely different story. I first got into Enya because of Orinoco Flow, but it wasn't until years later that I started purchasing some of her music. I started with this album. This album is a good place to begin for those who aren't familiar with this amazing artist.

Veteran Enya listeners will enjoy it too. It's a Best of album; you can't miss with that. You'll also notice some differences, such as the version of Book of Days on this album is the Far and Away version. ;)

This CD is a good mix of her songs. Some are upbeat, some are slow, but all of them are beautiful. This is definitely one of my favorite CDs. I listen to it on my iPod, in my car, on my computer, everywhere! My only complaint is that she leaves off a few of my favorite songs (Tea-House Moon!!), but I can look past that because it's so hard to choose just 16 of her songs to put on a Best Of album. There are so many good ones!

For most of us, Enya didn't so much introduce us to a new kind of music. It felt more like she invented a genre and then invited us to listen in.

This anthology of sixteen of her hits is appropriately headed by the beguiling 'Orinoco Flow', the piece that first caught the public's attention and remains a compelling, joyous ode in a Celtic-tradition-in-variant-form sort of way.

Enya's song is not really about the words. Her lyrics are sometimes unintelligible, either because they're spoken in a language with which the listener is not familiar or simply because the music overwhelms them. Indeed, they are not printed in my CD liner. One does not much grieve the loss, for the flowing, passionate, enigmatic surge the music consistently produces is reward enough. In fact, some of her best work is entirely non-verbal though not non-vocal, 'Watermark' for example'.

Indeed I am oddly tormented by the mysterious lyrics of two pieces, one of which in this reviewer's fevered brain sounds like the repeated statement 'Pilpel', this being the name given to an obscure Hebrew verbal form. The other, more prosaically, puts me in mind of the repeated musical statement 'Your underwear!'. None of this should be held against Enya.

What makes Enya sound so different? Her formula layers coquettish rhythms played on well-beaten strings with very little conventional percussion over lush harmonies vocal background themes that fade in and out enigmatically. Very seldom does Enya's voice appear alone. In this she is more creator than soloist.

In becoming reacquainted with this CD after some years and in listening to it more attentively than before, I am struck by what a fine artist Enya is. Yes, I think 'artist' *is* the word. She defies conventional categorization in the way that pioneers often do. What is more, the highly *produced* nature of her work means that she will be dismissed often as unworthy of association with the word 'pioneer' and, for that matter, 'artist'.

I think this is mistaken. She is both. Her only perceived fault in this regard might be her commercial success, as though it is incumbent only upon compromised, sold-out schmucks to experience this blessing. She appears to this reviewer to be a much finer artist than all of that.

I still find her work profoundly moving and pleasant for long periods of time as I work and listen. This 'greatest hits' anthology makes a fine introduction to it.

Goose bump music...Enya reaches in your soul and makes you feel wonderful. Much More than a musical experience! 16 songs...and all of them are great...perfect for a best of album i find it great for stress relief..I could not recommend more highly...go buy it

Enya has produced so many wonderful cd's over the years. Paint the Sky with Stars, is a beautiful collection of her best work. Her smooth and soft voice along side nature, makes for a perfect evening for: study, wine, date, yoga, relaxing, etc. This album, is definitely her finest work yet!

You'll love this if you enjoy Méhdi, Loreena Mckenitt, or other soothing music artists. It is the very essence of good music. So tranquil, yet so spirited, this cd is a refreshing break from my well-worn collection, I just keep wanting to listen to it over and over again. I am amazed! I've listened to this CD over and over and I never get tired of it. Enya's music is so wonderfully soothing and serene. I recommend listening to this one while driving to keep road rage at bay!

As a musician myself I'm always searching for the ultimate unique musical experience and Enya's music is timeless. This "best of collection" will deliver hours of listening please. Enya's multi-layered voice textures, that give her music its uniqueness, are soothing to the ears. Real ear-candy!

Enya's music is spacey with airy singing. Much of it is genuinely moving and touches emotions, but other tunes make the listener almost want to die. Definitely mood music. Good songs:

Paint the Sky with Stars - not a good song. I mention it as illustrative of my above comment. This is a real downer. Don't listen to it if you are struggling with suicidal thoughts in your life. I'm not just making a bad joke with this comment; it is truly mournful.

Overall the first half is more enjoyable. Album could have 5 stars if it had maintained that pace, but the 2nd half is much more depressing rather than emotive

This music appeals to all senses primal and majestic, those felt, those buried. Enjoy!

I have been a fan of Enya for years, but never bought an album. I came across this one when deciding between Watermark and Shepherd Moons, and realized this had most of what I liked -- a great mix of slow and fast-paced songs. Simply superb overall!!!

Full version of Storms in Africa, The Celts from her first US release CD, two new releases: Only If, catchy, and a beautiful ballad, Paint the Sky with Stars, the title track is relaxation at it's best. A few from other CD's that she has released that I personally would have loved to seen on this one....but if you're only going to buy one CD from her, this is the one to start your collection. (I am a Radio personality for an easy listening station and get to review alot, this one was tops)

I should not have bought this cd. It is really for a true Enya fan. I just like a couple of her songs and assumed I would like most of her music. I didn't. It's not a bad cd, but if you were just looking for mainstream hits, to me it only had a few. The others may have been hits, with Enya fans, but I'm sure the rest us missed them because we just weren't interested. If you're an Enya fan, go for it. If not, don't waste your money.

I had thought that I had all of the songs that were on this CD until I looked a bit closer.
Turns out that there were a bunch of releases - not in my collection.

So purchase it - I did!

It is kind of a strange thing to consider a best of Enya.

She and her group produce more memorable recordings per release than most other musicians.

In my opinion Shepherd Moons, A Day Without Rain and Amarantine are all "Best of" CD's.

Her songs have been used in films and TV shows - still often used to set a majestic mood. [...]

They are always recognizable even without vocals and although they can't be considered classics they stir one's emotions as classics do.

The weird thing is that her music seems to always be "around."

Strangely enough - so many quality recordings - offer the casual fan an extremely large comfort zone. It seems almost impossible that a "next" CD could ever be better than what has already been created. The casual fan is happy with what they have and only the avid fan always needs more.

Even if you think that you have them all - you will be surprised that this CD offers gems that you may not have known existed.

One of my favorite "go to" CD's when I need some great tunes! Highly recommend if you want nice easier listening music you can't go wrong w/ Enya!

As a long-time Enya fan, I always recommend this for new listeners because it is almost like a greatest hits album. It showcases some of her most popular songs as well as introducing a beautiful new one. It is a long album with 16 tracks and has music for every mood. Enya's voice is so pure and angelic and her songs are so haunting. She is definately my favorite artist and this is a nice collection of some of her best work.

When My 14 year old son brought home "Watermark" from the local library, I though "okay, I can handle this". His birthday was coming up, so I picked up "Paint the Sky With Stars" on ebay. Since it was a used CD, I wanted to make sure it was okay. I loved it so much that I soon got 5 more CDs of Enya. I can listen to her music all day.

Enya's music appeals to a wide range of age groups that enjoy mellow, well orchestrated music with an enchanting voice in the vocal numbers. My 11 year old son, 14 year old son , my 53 year old husband and I (I'm 52) all enjoy her music.

Out of all the CD's I purchased of Enya, "Paint the Sky With Stars" is one my favorites. Thank you, Enya.

I bought this CD as a gift for my mother for the Holidays. The CD is constantly on repeat on our player. It's a very relaxing and unwinding collection of songs.

I took a chance to add this to my husband's wish list for Watermark -- he loves this CD better but I must admit he plays both equally. Isn't she great?!!!

I buy all music by Enya, she has the most beautiful voice and I am taken away by her music. And I love to use Amazon to make all of my purchases as you have everything I am looking for.

If you don't want to invest in all of Enya's CD's (as I have) this is a perfect choice. Definitely a must if you just want selections of her work.

I was extremely disappointed in this CD. Only 1 song could be considered a "best", the rest were apparently rejects from previous CDs - they all had the same tempo and background, and most contained lyrics that were undeciferable. If you truly love Enya, purchase one of her earlier CDs. This is a total waste of your money.

The Book of Days is one of my favorite songs ever. I can replay it constantly without being bored or tired from it. I feel energized and raring to go do something creative. Listening to Enya music has that effect on me. It's like a spiritual awakening listening to her. You begin to believe that there are other important issues out there in the universe. Listening to Enya whether you are driving your car or in yoga class is therapeutic at times. You feel like you are listening to a choir of angels and can't believe it is just once voice.

A good friend turned me on to Enya, whose songs I had enjoyed but had never connected with her name. The sonorous melodies and rhythms along with the ethereal quality of the choruses give many of the songs a haunting quality like no other contemporary artist. Her music is about as far from the ever popular hip hop as you can possibly get, recalling the art song of classical composers rather than the contemporary pop scene. I really appreciate Enya and hope this is just one of many more best of Enya albums to come.

To listen to ENYA driving alone on a lonesome road is really a joy and an experience.

I'm not going to layer this review with insightful information and all of that gibberish. I'm jsut going to come flat out and say that THIS CD IS THE BEST EVER!!! It's so beautiful, and Enya's Celtic songwriting compliments her music so well. Her voice is so pure! If I could, I would give this CD 100 stars! It's so beautiful!

When I need to relax, Enya helps fill the void and this definitely is the best of her best. There is not much that you can't do to Enya's music; work, draw, meditate and just plain relax. Along with Medhi, Digital Moodz, Amethystium and Enigma, I have quite the collection to "mello" to.

This is not the type of music that dominates my CD collection. However, there are times when I like nothing more than popping in this greatest hits album from Enya and singing along to a bunch of songs whose lyrics mean absolutely nothing to me. Her voice is totally unique, and the songwriting is very unusual. Nonetheless, this album just hits the spot sometimes. If you are new to Enya, this is a great place to start.

I love it my fav Carribean Moon gives me goose bumps hearing that song....other fav. songs , sail away, storms in africa and book of days..

when ever there is a tragedy in my family or i'm having a bad day just the sound of her voice puts me at ease, this is my thoughs can't speak for everybody else tho....

Put it this way: it is clearly worth the money. About half of the 16 (or so) cuts are excellent and exhibit a "catchy" melody which lends itself to careful listening. The other half are okay tunes which, and I don't mean this in an insulting way, are very good background music for when you are doing the dishes. Take note: it's probably not great stuff to listen to when depressed.

I've always enjoyed Enya and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of Mehdi (pronounced meddie). After an online search I found their site (SoothingMusic - Com) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times, I really must say that although I'm still an Enya fan, I find Mehdi to be a great addition to this CD. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

I enjoy the early titles of Enya. And find Celtic music relaxing after a days work.

'Paint the Sky with Stars' is an excellent best of album for those new to Enya and a nice addition for people who don't have all her earlier music. The title 'Only if' is new and compliments the CD play list nicely. This album is definitely better than her newest release "Amarantine." "Amarantine" lacks the spark and crispness of her previous compositions; actually it's very disappointing and tiresome--yawn!!! However, a good composition to go with 'Paint the Sky with Stars' is "Solas" by Ronan Hardiman, an Irish composer. Hardiman's style is similar to Enya's and casual listeners often mistake Hardiman's music for her group. The big difference is 'Solas' has the liveliness and freshness lost in "Amarantine." "Love Song" is the best, in my opinion, and everything else on his CD is wonderful as well. The music stands up to repeated listening without becoming tedious. In the CD liner notes Hardiman wrote, "Ireland has long been recognized as a principle source of original and innovative music." He is so right! I wonder why it took such a long time in getting to America. 'Paint the Sky with Stars' and 'Solas' are great additions to anyone's music collection. Try out the samples Amazon offers to see if you don't agree.
