[+] 2.0 Renters beware
As mentioned in other reviews, the nuts were dificult to thread onto the bolts. I had to use two wrenches to assemble it. I tried it in four different doorframes. It didn't fit in three, and it damaged the paint on all of them. On the only door it fit, I was afraid it would tear off the trim.

[+] 2.0 Worthless
The "self-locking" screws result in about 2 inches of play and won't hold the contraption together. Either the box is missing tools, or contains the wrong screws. They should have provided normal screws for all 6 bolts. I am returning this thing back to Big 5 tomorrow.

Assembly problems are a recurrent complaint for this item.

[+] 10.0 Does the job
Excellent chinning bar. The screws were a bit difficult to manage, but the bar was still relatively easy to assemble. Assembly did not take more than 20 minutes. It is a bit tricky to find the right doorway for situps but pushups and pull ups are a treat especially when you use the different hand positions that are available to you. You are able to target different muscles just by changing hand positions. Great product.

[+] 10.0 Great Product
Very satisfied with this product. I've been using it daily for about three months now. Durable, and does what it says. I've very happy that I was able to get a chinup bar without having to drill holes in my metal door frames. Make sure that you measure your door before you buy it, though, if it's too small, it might not fit.

[+] 2.0 DO NOT BUY!
This is a terrible product. A piece of junk. The assembly parts do not work properly, I had to go and buy new nuts and bolts and upon assembly the fixtures don't align to grip the door post - lost money on rubbish, have to throw away.

[+] 2.0 Terrible Product
It's a nice idea and I would say the variety that they try to emphasize is appreciated, but the workmanship and actuality of maintaining a pull up bar that can hold your weight simply with friction and the reversion of your weight is horribly done, sandpaper came off after only a few tries.

[+] 2.0 Waste of money and time
Wrong hardware and will damage your wall! It is a complete waste of time, look for some other bar. I returned mine and ordered the Iron Gym Bar. Easier to put together and works perfect!

[+] 10.0 Very strong and reliable
I recently purchased this item from Amazon and received the item in 3 days. Good job Amazon! The chin up bar is a little hard to assemble because the nuts provided were really tight and it's only possible to screw them with the help of some tools. Other than that, I think for the price, this bar is worth every penny. Bear in mind that the sandpaper on the wooden support does scrape off the paint on my wall. What I did was put a tape on the wall to minimize friction.

[+] 2.0 Great for real short people
There's a reason the entire leg of the model is not shown on the ads. In order to use this on the average door ,you legs must be constantly bent at a 45 degree angle to keep them off the ground .

[+] 2.0 You have got to be kidding me
Got this thing out of the box, tried to put it together. I could not figure out why there seemed to be two inches of play in the four main screws that hold the handles / door support to the main bar. From reading on here, it looks like they are basically too long! THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CORRECT ASSEMBLY HARDWARE. China is a big place, you'd think Everlast could find a manufacturer that could figure those things out. Or maybe there was some kind of Spinal Tap thing going on with the screw lengths. Whatever, save your money, anything else on the market has got to be better than this.

[+] 2.0 False advertising: Multi Function is a lie
Just got this item. did a pull up or 2 to see if it holds me...so far so good. I don't need a tool to do push ups. Now to test the 2nd reason I bought this thing: sit ups. I wanted something that holds my feet down while I do sit ups (as advertised in the picture with the dorky haired dude right?) This is the point you realize you've been had. If anyone knows how to make this work (the sit -up part), I'm golden with this product, if not, lying to a customer PISSES ME OFF!

(Please comment if you know how to make this bar hold your feet down whilst doing sit ups

[+] 10.0 The bolts are fine, use a wrench!
Everyone talks about the bar coming with the wrong bolts because if you try to assemble the bar with your fingers the nuts don't tighten all the way. There's a lining of blue plastic inside the nuts that help them stay in place when tightened with a wrench, but yes they will stop you if you try to put them on with your fingers. Admittedly, the instructions should have either made this clearer or come with a wrench tool.

Once assembled, the thing works great! Everyone else who complains about the "substandard" nature of the product seems not to understand how all of these door-frame chin-up bars work. This one is arguably as good as the P90X bar (depending on your grip style) for about 1/3rd of the cost, and it is way better than the other door-frame bars that cost $10-20 more.

As long as you own a wrench and a standard door-frame, I can see no reason to buy any other chin-up bar.

[+] 4.0 Awful product
Took way too long to assemble, screws aren't the right size.
Once I finally got it together, it didn't work on my door frame.
Apparently made for door that are very deep, the top part couldn't actually grip onto anything and I fell on my butt.

Really, really substandard product.

[+] 10.0 Excellent choice
I just recently purchased the P90X workout program and it requires a chin up bar. The Everlast bar is perfect. It fits nicely in the doorway and is very strong.

[+] 6.0 More than meets the eye
It is good quality, however it is hard to put together without the appropriate tools and even then it is a hassle. That should be included in the information about the product. But the more important part is
IT PUTS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE TOP OF YOUR DOOR FRAME.
Make sure that the top of your door frame is very strong because this will place a lot of pressure on the door and makes cracking noises everytime I use it. This occurs on every door in my house and my colleages house.

[+] 8.0 Everlast Multi Function Chinning Bar
The spec/measurement description stated a range, but nothing was adjustable. I took the center bar to a hardware store that was able to cut it 2" to my specification. After that, I've used this product daily. I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Works as avertised, The foam rips at the point that touches trim and the trim is dented on either side of my door. Its a great multi-use tool at a cheap price. This bar is worth the money.

[+] 8.0 Wish it would work in ALL door frames...
Quick and easy assembly (NO MISSING PART!). Several different grips. Holds A LOT of weight and does it well. I would deffinatley reccommend this chinning bar. The biggest flaw in this product is that it can only be used in small door frames. :-( I wish they would sell extension peices, so that it could be used in any door. (Closets, regular house-hold doors, and industrial doors are all different widths.)
I had a maintenance guy at work make me some custom extensions to mine so I can now use it on any door and I really like this product now.

[+] 10.0 Better than expected
I was somewhat skeptical about buying this item after reading some of the more negative reviews, but I ended up taking a gamble. Boy, am I glad I did. At 6'1 and 225 lbs, this bar holds my weight just fine. The entire bar took about 5 minutes to assemble and about 10 seconds to put up in a doorway.

After reading about how some folks had the bar fall down on them, I'd probably recommend giving it a couple of test tugs and visually inspecing the seat on the opposite side of the door.

Well worth the money.

[+] 4.0 Missing parts, looked used
Just received my order after paying next day shipping and it was missing the wooden strip required for assembly. Not only that, it looked like it had been used. There was rust on the ends of the metal bar and part of the rubber handles had already been torn. Amazon said they're sending me another one today and I should have it tomorrow. We'll see what that one comes with. I don't expect it to be anything spectacular, but I would expect it to at least be new and come with all the parts! At least they're sending me a return shipping label for free.

[+] 10.0 they are the right screws
like what people mentioned time and time again, these screws need the tools to get them in, it's suppose to be that way, so they stay tight and don't come out loose.

i had mine for about a year now, and the screws are still very tight.

they work like the suppose to, but they ended up damaging my door anyways. (really cheap wood frame, they gradually got huge dents on where the bars were supporting my weight)

however, they are great for your lats

[+] 10.0 Awesome pull up bar
The pull up bar is very versatile. It can be put up and taken down in a matter of seconds so it can be moved from doorway to doorway. I use it in my bedroom and then my son can take it to his room and use it. When we need to shut the doors, it can be taken down. It is very sturdy. It makes doing pull ups so available.

[+] 10.0 Very functional
Great option for anyone renting or not wanting to destroy a doorframe in order to have a pull up bar at home. Attaches easily and removably in most normal frames. Supports 200+ lbs with no give or bounce or damage. Closed grip pullup unique to this bar over most. Only downsides, no wide grip and will slightly scuff the paint just above the frame. Honestly in most areas you won't be able to see it but it does scratch a tiny bit.

[+] 10.0 A great thing!
Very easy set up, no putting holes in the wall. There's so many muscle groups you can work with this bar. All you need is to exercise your imagination! This is great, the padding is great, the strength of the bar is great. The only down side is that if you don't have a regular sized doorway, you can't use it.

[+] 10.0 Pleased
Bought this item at Modell's a week ago for $34.00. The instructions weren't the clearest but it took me less than a 1/2 hr. to put together.
I'm assuming that they corrected the nuts and screws problem because mine fit without a hitch. Although it uses include push-ups and sit-ups I only use it for chin-ups and pull ups.
The 1st doorway I tried it on was unsucessful due to the frame not protuding far enough, the 2nd door too narrow due to a wall being near the door, my 3rd attempt was a perfect fit and as long as your movements are slow and deliberate you'll be safe. I wiegh 200 lbs. and it worked for me perfectly.

So,if you purchase this item make sure that you measure your doorway width and check that the frame extends at least a 1/2" from the wall.
Overall a very good, inexpensive product especially when compared with very similar items that cost almost twice as much if not more.

[+] 8.0 Everlast Chinning Bar works well after tricky assembly
I am happy with my purchase of the Everlast Chinning Bar. The Bar seems sturdy with no hint of failure while supporting my 200lbs. I paid $30 at the local Academy Store and thought the value was good. I am satisfied with the Everlast and the ease of the bar's temporary installation that its design provides.

I do have a couple of couple of minor complaints. The assembly instructions were not the best, but after 30 minutes or so, i eventually figured it out. The plastic PVC Caps for the Nuts are too small and will not stay on. The sand paper strip on the Wooden Strip and mounts over the door frame could scratch the paint. They should have used rubber instead of sandpaper.

I would purchase the Everlast again based upon the $30 price, sturdiness, and functionality.

[+] 6.0 Parts missing!
Although the item arrived on time and in good condition, like other buyers, pertinent parts were missing (bolts, etc.). Rather than go through the hassle of sending back the product, I am hoping to find these parts at my local hardware store. A friend of mine has the same chinning bar (with all the parts, obviously) and so far, it is excellent, particularly for the P90X workouts.

[+] 10.0 This item rocks

People People People, I have read many negative reviews about this product, and it looks like the common complaint is that its not stable, maybe you all might want to try using a vise grip to fasten the screws, and trust me you will never slip off again....using your hand to tighten the screws "Not Smart" .......The screws do go all the way down TRY IT !!
I have been bodybuilding for 7 years......Results.....Priceless

[+] 4.0 Could Be Better...
After opening the box and counting the bolts, I was missing a few. Not sure where they had gone. It seems the were loosely packed so perhaps they fell out of the flimsy box.

Lucky I have some nuts/bolts/washers laying in my toolbox and they seem to fit.

This bas is definitely NOT for small door frames! If your door is under 26" in width, then this would not work. My door happen to be 24" in width. I live in a studio apartment so the only door I have if the bathroom door. I would use the entrance but then people would be walking by and watching me work out.

Also, the foam pads wore off on the 2nd set of chin-ups. I basically had metal chaffing onto my door frame.

The bar creaks like it wasn't made to last. I weigh in at almost 200 lbs. and I'm afraid the bar might give at any moment.

I'll give this bar another 6 months before it'll finally break on me...

Im not sure what all these people are talking about with "hard to setup this and that". The directions were simple and I put it together and was using it within 30 minutes. I dont/havent gotten any tools so this unit is not together right, however the bolts and everything still holds under my weight (178 lbs). Soild unit, Im impressed.

[+] 8.0 Does good job with chin up
This product does a great job with chin up exercise, but it doesn't do well with situp like it advertised at all. I have carpeted floor, which is not firm enough for the bar to leverage against during situp. I haven't try it on a hard floor to see if it work there or not, but I doubt it will. The bar is strong and sturdy once all screw is in place and tighten. The bar does need to have a doorframe header to work properly, I would not just depend on the leverage wood bar and its sandpaper to hold by itself. The bar size is not adjustable, so it will only fit certain size doorway only. The soft grip is nice and comfort as well. Overall it does chin up bar function really well without having to screw the doorframe, but does not work with doing situp.

[+] 6.0 Faulty mounting
I did some research on pull-up bars through other customer reviews, and the Everlast bar had the fewest negative reviews (that's not saying much). Many of the negative customer reviews on Everlast were because the customers had old doorways and the bar didn't work for them. I live in a new house, so I figured that I wouldn't have a problem with the door size.

The pull-up bar was straightforward to assemble, but I must admit that I spent awhile trying to figure out how it was mounted on the doorway. After looking at the picture and trying out different ways of mounting the bar, I finally realized that the bar just mounted on the doorframe, and had nothing to do with the door itself. The reason it took so long for me to figure that out was that it doesn't look safe or secure. There's a tiny sand-paper-like band on the wooden bracket that's supposed to hold it in place on one side of the doorframe, but that's a joke. I only weigh 165 pounds, and after three normal pullups, the whole contraption fell, and me with it. Most of the sand-paper tape came off the wooden bracket, showing how precarious the whole doorframe mounting idea was in the first place.

I'll just have to find a way to mount this thing on the wall, the doorway frame mounting idea is a joke!

[+] 8.0 Does what it's supposed to
Fundamentally this product does what its supposed to. I had read several negative comments about the assembly; while the instructions are not crystal clear it was reasonably straightforward. An improvement might be to include wrenches but pliars and a socket set put it together fine.

As stated it works on most door frames. I have one doorway in my house that is too wide for the bar so measure before you buy.

I was a little tentative on the first use but it holds my weight (210 lbs) no problem. In my mind it is the solution I was looking for.

The only real negative is that it has marked my door frame (as mentioned by other reviewers). It 'dented' the wood and scraped some paint off during the first use. Since then I always put some extra cushioning, like a towel, behind the contact points on the front side and it seems fine. It's a little extra hassle but nothing that upsets me too much. My advice is to add some extra cushioning in visible contact points.

[+] 2.0 Don't like it at all.
I put it together per the instructions and I actually fell when the bar came loose from the door frame. I put it back the way it is supposed to go and to no avail I fell again and got hurt...again. Ultimately I put one thick sandal on each side against the frame of the door to give the block of wood (from the chin up bar) above the door frame less space to come away from the frame if I rocked too much. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone. Horrible item.

[+] 8.0 Great Bar
This is a great pull-up bar. The only thing I would like to see on a bar like this is some wide grip handles that aren't at the same width as the door jam. That way one's elbows would have more room to move. The p90x bar has handles like this however, its padding is terrible. I prefer this bar for comfort and price.

[+] 6.0 Good product....only a small concern
The product itself is great; however, there were no instructions on putting it together included in the box. I had a difficult time putting it together. Also, there are several different ways to use the chin-up bar (other than the obvious), but the instructions on using it in different ways was not included in the box either. There are pictures on the outside of the box showing some different ways to use the chin-up bar, but it's hard to figure out how with no instructions.

[+] 2.0 Waste of time and money
To echo other reviews, this is poorly designed. The hardware they send leaves the two handle sections totally loose and they come apart - these are the handles that you are supposed to hang from. Even when I went and bought other screws and nuts, nothing fixed the issue.
Reviewer [A1L0VSWQ2ODSSH] | Date [May 4, 2008]
[+] 6.0 Beware - usability depends on the depth of your doorframes!
I had no problem assembling the chinning bar; the instructions are basic but anyone with a bit of common sense shouldn't have a problem.

The only problem I DID have is that I live in an older house and my doorframes are quite 'deep' compared to those in newer houses. By deep, I mean the width between the two rooms, NOT the actual width of the door frame, which was fine. Anyway, because of the depth of my doorframes, the wooden support doesn't properly locate above the doorframe on the opposite side which makes the chinning bar useless to me in the house I live in. So be wary!!!

Overall though, I can see that it would be a good product if my doorframes suited it so I'll tuck it away in the hope that I'll one day be living somewhere I can use it.

[+] 10.0 Learn how to assemble
First of all, you need to have a door with trim and make sure that your door will fit this product. Most newer homes will fit this no problem. As for the wrong hardware, if you know how to use a socket wrench, then you will not have this problem. The instructions are extremely simple if you know how to read, a 5 year old could figure it out.

You get what you pay for, it's the cheapest one on amazon so what do you expect? It is a good product for the price and suits me well, I weigh 190 pounds

[+] 10.0 great in all aspects
Everlast Multi Function Chinning Bar EXCELLENT product in all aspects, easy to put together, easy to install, maybe not so easy to use at first, but that is because one must build the stamina for the pull up/chin up. Great to keep installed at all times or to move to other doors in your home. I love it because I get to practice anytime of day on my chin ups and keep getting better each time, however the best part is the price!!!!!

[+] 8.0 Great Bar
It's a pretty good bar. It doesn't fit on 6 inch wall studs rather than the standard 4, unless you have low molding and trim on your walls. I had a little difficulty putting it together, and the loops can slide out if used incorrectly or for a long period of time. Other than that, it's pretty sturdy, and it delivers what it claims - an upper body workout.

[+] 10.0 Cheaply made but gets the Job Done
I bought this to help with my P90X work out. Putting it together was easy. The first couple of uses it felt like it was "bending". Now after a few weeks, it has "broken in" and works great. It handles my 185 pounds with out moving a bit. Note - if used daily, it will cause a little scuffing on the door frame. I would not pay any more than $30.00 for this product. If you see it for that price or lower, buy with confidence.
