[+] 8.0 Sometimes assumes too much knowledge
This book is a complete, good review. It sometimes assumes to much background knowledge, especially with math. A particular calculus solution has me completely stumped how they did one of the steps. Still, explains things well to a guy like me without a bachelor's in engineering.

[+] 10.0 Passed October 2009 Exam!!!
There is nothing I can say more than I passed!!! I have an engineering technology degree, not an engineering degree. I've been out of school for over 2 years. I took the test, and I pass the First Time.

I have to admit I did not study much at all. I didn't read through the chapters in this book.

What I did was, practice all (ok some) of the problems in the book and looked up how to get to the answer.
After I did that for weeks, I started to get a hang of it. When I took the actual FE exam, I was the first one to finish and there were hundreds of people there.

Because I was lazy, I did not pay my dues by studying, but somehow thank to this book, I am an EI. I studied no more than 10 chapters of the 50+ chapters in this book. But what you must do is, take the sample exam at the end of this book. All of it! It helps!

[+] 8.0 FE Review Manual
I would say this is a must have for taking the FE/EIT. I would follow the timeline given in the manual, as I wasn't able to cover all subjects in two weeks. However, there are many errors that can get quite annoying, such as using US standard units in the problems when they are supposed to be in metric. Also, the solution sometimes are not fully explained and can be frustrating.
With that said, it did help me review the subjects I forgot and was very helpful.

[+] 10.0 Great Text
I purchased this text only a week before the FE exam and it provided me with the necessary review material. I haven't gotten my results back but I am confident that I at least passed. Before every chapter there is a diagnostics section which I liked very much.

[+] 10.0 A must read for those who want to pass the FE / EIT
I personally had only one month to prepare for the exam.

Purchased this book and took the tests which comes at the end of this chapter.

If you have enouug time, read the entire book, if you don't jump to the tests, take the tests on your own, then grade yourself and review those you missed.

It's simple as that. But i guess you should already have a solid grasp of engineering courses or be smart enough to use this in an effective manner.

Good luck !

[+] 4.0 Lots of information, but not enough
The book contains a wealth of information that you are expected to know, but as an engineering student who has been out of school for a while I've forgotten some of the specifics the book takes for granted. For example: Many sample problems in the book require performing derivatives, but I need an example to follow to job my memory. Another example: A problem refers to finding the number in a Fibonacci sequence, but nowhere in the review material does it explain that a Fibonacci sequence is the sum of the previous two numbers in a series.

I realize that may have made the book much larger, but now I keep having to review other sources for information I need.

[+] 10.0 No fluff, just what you need to know
I have been using this book for about a month now to review for the FE exam. Each major section begins with a diagnostic exam which you can use to gauge your strengths and weaknesses. Within each major section, there are chapters dealing with specific subjects. Each chapter presents its content in a straightforward way, showing you just what you'll need to know (no derivations of equations, for instance). In addition to presenting content, there are practice problems at the end of each chapter. The practice problems are excellent for applying your knowledge - if you're not going to do the practice problems, don't bother studying for the FE exam at all.

Great book overall, no downsides.

[+] 10.0 I passed the first time
The Book is Excelent. Follow the author instructions>> Focus on the Exam and avoid distraction. However you will find in the exam some questions (20%) from obscure topics (you wont find here or in any other book). Dont Worry. Choose any answer and continue.

Time is very important. At the end of the book there are 2 excellent practice tests. Take those tests 2-3 weeks before the exam.

If studied properly this book is enough to pass the FE EXAM.

[+] 10.0 Excellent book
This is a great book to get, especially if you've been out of school for a while like me. I used this book, the Engineer in Training Reference Manual, and the FE/EIT Sample Examinations - all written by Michael R. Lindeburg, as my only study material for the exam last year. I used this guide and the Reference Manual to revise each section examined, and I worked through the sample questions at the end of sections that needed more attention. I used the Sample Examinations book 2 weeks before writing to work on my speed. Buying these books will be helpful to anyone who is taking the FE exam.

[+] 10.0 It worked!
In preparation for the FE, I bought this book and worked through a bunch of the chapters. I was a physics major in college, and not an engineering major, which meant that I never took a structures class, or anything on concrete, etc. I focused on reviewing the material I knew, and material I thought I could learn directly from the book, like engineering economics. I'll confess, my study habits weren't the best, and I did not review daily. However, I did pass, and I did not need to take up the book publishers on their "pass or you'll get a refund" policy. I'm happy with it.

[+] 10.0 ****A MUST FOR FE EXAM****
Hey Everyone,
First of all i intended to take the FE exam on April 2009. ( in the American University in CAIRO,EGYPT)
After reading all of these reviews here on amazon.com, i decided to go for General afternoon exam and get this review book as i found everyone saying that its the best ever.
i decided to go on and order it and trust these reviews for no reason.

I studied heavily 2 weeks before the exam using that book and the NCEES sample questions ONLY.

I was very depressed as i thought that i wont pass the exam as i didnt finish all of the book problems.

On the exam day, prepare to face the WORST day in your whole life, you will never ever face a day like this till you breathe your last.

I finished the Morning session just on time, and i went out ONE HOUR before the time was called in the Afternoon session.

I was very happy and i was sure that im going to pass (N.B.:passing score approx:50%).

Yesterday 18th of June 2009 i recieved the email telling me that i've passed the exam.

-The book's problems are a bit harder than the FE, and thats what you really need.
-Try to start studying 2 months before the exam, i think it will be more than enough.
-Trust this book as its REALY GONNA MAKE U PASS!!
Any questions about the FE exam (hatem_diab@hotmail.com) im ready to help anyone who's interested to know what i've passed through during this journy.

[+] 8.0 Worth the Buy
I just took the FE exam, having been out of school for about a year. My background is aerospace engineering so I decided to take the general exam since I want the option to independently consult in the future. Although I don't have the score yet, I'm very confident I passed, mostly because I had this book. The 4 star rating is only because this review won't work for people who are short on time (1 month or less to study).

The good:
-The FE Review Manual helped me waaay over-prepare for the exam. Going in, I was afraid because there were some subjects I was still rough in, but overall I was very happy with how well the book readied me.
-Very thorough (both breadth and depth) overview of undergrad curriculum, broken up into specific, manageable chapters. Even subjects that you think you know forward and backward have chapters that stretch you mentally.
-The practice problems are meant to be difficult, but they prepared me for the worst of exam. The solutions to practice problems were critical to learning the material.
-Good intro to subjects I never encountered in school, such as toxicology, economics, and rotating machines.

The bad:
-On average, the chapters took me 1.5-2 hours to complete (read, work, troubleshoot). This equated to about 140 hrs preparing for the exam over the course of 3 months, in all.
-Without being specific, the book did fail to cover a few topics on the exam. It actually failed to even mention them, leaving me to scramble during the exam to find the relevant info in the supplied NCEES Handbook. This was expected though, since some things will always be left out since engineering has such a large scope.
-I left the "hardest" chapters toward the end of my study regimen, which left me frustrated as the exam got closer. In hindsight, I would study them at the beginning and come back to them a week or two before the exam to review.

Overall, I will probably reference this book again in the future for general engineering questions. I found that being disciplined and sticking to a study plan was the best thing I could have done to prepare. Much thanks to the author - well worth the price!

[+] 8.0 Great Review Book with a Few Minor Flaws
This is a great review book. It's complete and has tons of practice problems and diagnostic exams to help you pinpoint your troubled areas, as well as having a full-length morning and afternoon practice exam. I won't go into many more of the positives because they have been thoroughly covered by other reviewers. Instead, I'll list some of the book's (relatively) minor flaws.

For one thing, the book is subtitled "Rapid Preparation for the General FE Exam." As other reviewers have pointed out, rapid must be relative because this book is massive (>800 pages). Expect to take several weeks (months?) to prepare going at the fastest rate possible. Still, the FE exam covers so much material this is probably expected. This book takes an in-depth approach to covering all the kinds of problems one can expect to see on the FE Exam, but considering the exam only requires you to get ~50% of the questions right, it may be overkill. I've heard of alternative strategies that only focus on a smaller set of recurring questions that are constantly seen on the FE exam, expecting you to guess on the remainder (guessing is not penalized on the FE Exam and logically you should guess correctly on ~25% of the questions). Perhaps this would be a better studying alternative for those pressed for time.

Second, another problem I have when going through the practice problems is finding the equations used in the NCEES Reference Handbook. It seems many of the equations used in this book are either absent or greatly modified in the NCEES handbook (I'm using the 7th edition but I know the changes between it and the current 8th ed. are minor). If this book referenced what pages or sections the formulas are on in the NCEES Handbook, it would be extremely helpful.

Third, the last problem I have with this book is that it assumes you're taking the general exam for the afternoon exam... Which is fine, but what if you're talking a discipline-specific exam in the book? It would be nice for the author to mark which sections in this book are for the morning exam (obviously mandatory sections) versus the general afternoon exam so those taking DS afternoon exams can safely skip them to save time for studying, without having to constantly refer back to the tables of what material is covered on the various afternoon exams.

That said, this book is still very good in both the practice problems and the review sections. It has a money-back guarantee that you'll pass and I would definitely recommend it to anyone just graduating or who has been out of school for a few years and are wanting to take the FE exam!

[+] 8.0 I think I've been out of school too long
I'm sure this book will prepare you for the FE exam just fine, but instead of an hour per chapter that it was "designed" for, it took me a good 6 or 7 hours to get through chapter 5 and another 6 or 7 for chapter 6. Then the first problem in chapter 7 made me so angry I remembered why I didn't want to be an engineer after I graduated. Its not worth it for me to get so worked up over a stupid test. I "quit" being an engineer now. I'm going to go raise horses.

I bought this book 2 months prior to taking my FE/EIT for the second time. The first time I used another review book by Rea and failed it miserably. I just got my results from the Fall 2008 exam today, and passed. With no doubt, I have this book to thank for my success. If you want to pass the test you need to buy and go through this entire book. I took the Electrical in the afternoon.

[+] 10.0 THIS will help you with your FE exam
When i ordered this product, I only had approximately 2 weeks to study, yes that was a bad choice, I was studying some other things, but felt that I need more depth in a lot of topics on FE Exam. So I ordered this book and crammed this book for 2 weeks. I learned so much from this book in 2 weeks than I ever did when studying for the FE exam for like 3 months. IT really shows great examples and covers almost everything on the FE exam. I would highly suggest this for anyone who wants to have a full depth study guide on the FE exam. You will learn a lot from this book even if you didn't really learn in your class =p!!!

This book is a perfect review book. It covers everything you need to know for both the morning and afternoon General Engineering portions. If you cover all 55 chapters you will be well prepared. Don't wait until the last minute to buy this. I bought this 3 weeks before the exam and I spent a lot of long nights going through it just to finish reviewing-get it at least 1 1/2 months ahead.

[+] 10.0 Excellent Review Manual!
I sat for the FE exam yesterday and had used this book as my study guide. I took the general afternoon section, which is covered by the FE Review Manual as well.

One of the major selling points for this book is "Pass the exam or get your money back." It's obvious now why they make that claim. The thoroughness of this study guide is such that there are no unexpected questions. As I sat moving through the sections of the actual FE exam, it felt exactly like moving through different chapters of this book. There were no surprises.

A hint to future FE test takers is to study the "Engineering Economics" section. This is one of the easiest sections to snag points. I overheard many people in the lobby talking about how stupid it was and how they didn't understand any of it. The FE review manual does a great job of explaining the interest rate tables in the Reference Manual (the manual you can use during the exam), and once you understand how to use them, the problems are a breeze.

One warning, when you use this book, it's very easy to reference the chapter you're working on to find an equation. Make an effort to only use the FE Reference Manual when doing practice problems (Order or download a copy of that as well. Make sure it's the most current edition). Once test day comes, you'll know it well and have no problem finding what you're looking for.

Good Luck!

[+] 2.0 Not the best...
I purchased this book along with the Mechanical specialty study guide. I've only been out of college for 6 months, but I still found this book to be confusing and unhelpful. Its basically only good for practice problems because the review sections are WORTHLESS. Even in the practice problems throughout the book I found numerous typo's and mistakes in both the problems and the solutions. I haven't tried any other book to compare it to, but there has got to be something better...

[+] 8.0 EIT Review Book
I think this book covers the material very good. The methodology is excellent. The only section that I would recommend is to wide the differential equation section because it was poor in this subject. I have been out of school for about ten years and I need more material in order for me to ketch up. Other that the problems are well explain and plenty of problem for the student.

[+] 10.0 An excellent preparation tool
Give yourself about 3 months (or more) and go through the entire book. Follow the author's instructions on how to use the manual. If you go through each chapter and do the questions, you will pass the FE. The format and level of complexity are a spot on match to the test. Time is a factor with this method, it is about 3 inches thick, so don't wait until you have 3 weeks left to study. Pay particular attention to subjects that you studied in your freshman and sophomore years, such as electric circuits and electromagnetism, also make sure you cover structural analysis and geotech thoroughly, you'll find that it will come back to you quickly once you start studying. Also, get yourself a new edition of the equation manual and use it when studying this book, you'll find that they are arranged in approximately the same order of topics. Learning your way around the equation book is extremely important, as time is a factor on the test. If you make a genuine effort and use this manual you will pass the FE. Good luck!

[+] 10.0 Good FE Review Book
I used this book to review for the FE exam which I passed this past April 2008. I had been out of engineering school for two years and wanted something to help me review. As a mechanical engineer, there was a decent amount of material in the book that I hadn't learned in school (Engineering Biology, Chemistry, and Finance) and it proved useful on the test. My biggest recommendation is to get a copy of the FE handbook and use it for every problem. The most important part of the test is being able to reference the handbook for formulas and charts. It can be obtained for free online through [...] Good Luck

I would strongly recommend only and only this book if you do not have that much time left for studying.
I purchased the book, studied for only 40 days, and passed the FE exam on my first try!!!!
This book covers a short but good enough review of all the subjects included in the exam. Then walks you through a lot of useful problems and their solutions.
on the exam day, the problems were very similar to the ones i had worked out in the book concept wise.

[+] 8.0 Pretty Good Study Aid.
To those who are preparing to take the FE exam soon, there is no way you will be able to go through the whole book cover-to-cover. This is the Truth. It would be Great if you could go through the whole book at your own pace, and then take the FE exam. This is Impossible. So, my advice is that you should only study what you aren't comfortable with. Brush up on Thermo, Fluids, Circuits, etc. If you have additional time to study, go over other smaller subjects like Chem, Bio, Ethics, etc. Seriously, you will have to wing alot of stuff during the Exam.

[+] 10.0 Excellent FE Review Book
16 years after college graduation, I used this FE Review Manual and passed the 2008 FE exam. Since I am working full time and 60% of the topics I am not familiar with, I spent 2 hours/day for 6 six months. All the efforts finally paid off! During my preparation for the exam, I gained more and more confidence through working on practice examples. The actual exam is easier than the practice examples, and you need to be familiar with the NCEES Handbook. Though I am very good at maechanical design, kinematics and vibration, I am not familiar with thermo and fluid. I took the Genral Exam in the afternoon instead of Mechnical Engineering Exam, and I did well.

I planned to take the PE exam october 2009 and will use Michael's books again. With all my dedication in learning, I should be able to pass the exam. I wish those who want to take the exam can pass the exam, but you need good book and dedication.

[+] 8.0 Shocked that I Passed
After being out of school for 15 years, I had a lot of work to prepare for the FE / EIT exam. I worked nearly every problem in this book over a 5 month period and didn't really have time to look at other books. I passed the Florida exam so it certainly helped.

My biggest complaint about this Manual is that it doesn't reference the equations found in the NCEES handbook. As you know, the NCEES handbook is the only reference material allowed during the exam. To solve the problems you have to rely on equations presented at the beginning of the chapter. These equations are not always found in the NCEES so it gets confusing.

[+] 10.0 Great tool for preparation
This is a great book for preparing for the General portion of the FE/EIT exam. I highly recommend it. Make sure you give yourself enough time to work through the entire book. It's better to over-prepare for this test, because after all, if you are an engineer, then these are things you should know. An iteration of problem solving and reading with this book, and then a review of the things you don't feel that confident about should be enough to guarantee a passing score. Also, you'll want to download a free version of the NCEES Reference Guide, and solve the problems while using that as your only reference. The ability to easily wade through that reference guide will make everything go much smoother while taking the exam.

This book is a new edition of a long-running FE preparation manual. It covers all the materials in the FE morning exam, and the questions in the book are very similar to the real FE test. [+] 10.0 Very useful book
I strongly recommend this book for passing EIT in the first go. I had lost in touch with some specific subject basics of engineering. I worked through this book for one month which got me on track with the 'A to Z' of engineering problem solving methods. Then I took the sample exam from the NCEES FE study materials and gradually gained confidence required to face the exam. After I passed the exam, I was just thanking Micheal R. Lindeburg in my mind for writing this book.

[+] 6.0 Large but not clear
more explanations and clearer path of description and priority of subjects is needed, some subjects are discussed and explained in this book briefly which makes it hard to understand the purpose or use of some information or equations in practical engineering, other than that , the book has a lot of mathematical derivation that is not needed to be mentioned for engineers who has studied them in college, this book also lacks graphs and explanation diagrams that would make it worth more and more efficient.

[+] 8.0 Good Review Book for the FE Exam
This book is well-written and contains everything you'll need to know to get a high score for the FE Exam. There are a lot of practice problems that are more difficult than those encountered on the real test, so if you can't do all the problems, it shouldn't be a big deal when you take the real test.

Some things you should be aware of: This will be the only text you need ONLY if you plan on taking the general exam in the morning and the general exam in the afternoon (as opposed to an exam more specific in your field, like chemical engineering). The general exam in the afternoon is more difficult and covers different topics than the one in the morning (and pass rates are generally lower for people who take the afternoon general exam). Thus, if you plan on taking a module specific to your field in the afternoon, you'll need another FE review book specific to your field. With that said, all the chapters in this book are not necessary if you plan on taking a non-general exam in the afternoon. Make sure you find out which chapters you need to study or else you'll go through a lot of unnecessary material for the morning exam, which is what I did.

[+] 10.0 Great book for FE test
This is the only book you need to buy for the FE. Use it with a copy of the reference that will be supplied during the test, you can download it for free. I passed the FE in OCT 07, after being out of school for 16 years, easily using this book.

[+] 10.0 Great before and after test reference
I found the book to be very complete and helpful. The example and practice problems were more than adequate to prepare me for the exam. Most often, the practice problems were much more difficult than the actual test problems.

I studied for three weeks prior to the exam, and I have no doubts that I passed. This book was an invaluable resource during my preparation.
