Great Multi-Purpose Sharpener
While I do not own this product myself, my good friend Patrick Bateman raves about his. Being a serial killer extremely dexterous with many bladed weapons and amazingly poor at sufficiently restraining his victims, he rarely really gets into it before he finds himself disarmed and reaching for the next available implement. Axes, knives, swords, and even the occasional pitchfork make it into his arsenal, all gleaming with the same fearful sheen.

Axecellent Sharpener!
Works great....took a wired edge on my gerber kitchen knife and in 5 strokes I could push that knife through an orange without even drawing the blade.
Great!
Got this to sharpen a Friskars axe I have. Does the job decently, not much more I can say about it.
It's a little too big to take camping with you but it's great to keep in a survival kit. It has a stone wheel that sharpens both sides of the blade at once. The wheel is removable.

The best knife sharpener around for everyday use
I love knives. And they've got to be sharp or I won't use them. I have Japanese sharpening stones and one of those expensive electrics and it's great, but I keep a Fiskars in my knife drawer and use it all the time. I've made this item my favorite gift for friends. Somehow I always get asked to carve the meat, ham or Turkey. Now I don't have to worry about carving with a butter knife.

Good all purpose sharpener
This sharpener uses little ceramic wheels set at the proper edging angle for blade sharpening. Its small size is deceiving for it is well designed and works as described. Takes just a few strokes to sharpen even the most neglected blades.

Does a Fine Job...
This product does what it claims...sharpens knives and scissors (I have not yet sharpened an axe with it yet). And it did a fine job. It is safe and easy to use. However, I would have liked it if it was little sturdier, the plastic feels kind of light and wimpy.

Don't waste your time
I bought this thinking I could save some time and sharpen my knives and axes "the easy way". Lesson learned that there are no shortcuts. The sharpener put a slight edge on my pocket knife, but did very little for my estwing camping axe. It is a fairly cheap plastic case with ceramic wheel inside. It was not expensive however neither is a wet stone. There is no substitute for learning to sharpen your knives/tools with an old fashion wet stone. I generally do not rate items, but feel compelled to say that I would not recommend this.

takes a little work
You use a back and forth motion to sharpen the hatchet or ax, not a pull through.
I used a very dull hatchet that's used to split kindling wood, mainly 2x4 pieces.
It takes a lot, I mean, a lot of back and forth pulls but, you know what, my little hatchet started to develop an edge and was getting sharp.
I'll get back to it when I need to split more kindling and run the hatchet through a couple of dozen more times.
The more you run your az et al through the sharpener, the more it works for you. No need to worry about shaving off too much metal from a hatchet.
I would not use this sharpened for my kitchen knives, though. But I would use it for a cheap camping or outdoor knife that would get sharp with a crude edge.

As advertised... BUT....
I don't care for this product. It easily slides around on most smooth surfaces; not good when working with sharp objects. Cumbersome. Cuts very roughly. Difficult to use with bulky or awkward tools like axes and hatchets. Would probably work ok for dressing up kitchen knives if the stones were finer. While it works as designed, to a degree, there are better products out there.
i sharpen and sharpen oh they are all very sharp gleaming gleaming gleaming i can use an axe to shave its so sharp i love my blades they are beautiful i must go sharpen sharpen sharpen
i haven't sharpened anything in knife drawer number two this week

Good for the Price
If you are looking for a good sharpener in this price range then this is it. It does a good job on my Fiskars Chopping Axe. I am not sure how good it would do on knives. I have only used it on my axe. But for the price this is a good sharpener.
This sounded like a good thing, but it just falls apart. I was sharpening a cutlass, but it's now in the garbage. It might work for knives, but nothing heavier.
Great for axes and for a cheap knife but nearly ruined a benchmade. I got the benchmade back by buying a wusthof sharpener that brought it back to shaving sharpness. I love it for axes and other big blades that have a lot of cheap steel to chip away at but I wouldn't use this for a good knife.

Worthless...no, LESS than worthless
It says it's an ax as well as knife sharpener. Well, I have a machete, and what would fall more within that category of blades than a machete...you might call my machete a cross between and ax and a knife. So, with almost no instructions (just one line on the box to tell you to roll the item back and forth in the groove...with no mention of downward pressure, speed, starting from one particular side of the sharpener, tilting of the blade....absolutely NOTHING that could help you have a better result), I took my dull machete, and followed the only instruction I was given. And, the result was a MORE DULL blade than what I started with. So, after repeated attempts, I figured "Why not?"...and tried variations in all the parameters I listed above (pressure, etc.). Still...just a dull, rounded machete blade! Maybe mine was a lemom, but as usual, for $10, it isn't worth taking the time to send it back. I'll go to a knife/scissors sharpening place in town, and for around $2, I'll likely get (at least) considerably closer to the 'blade sharpness' I was hoping to get. I'd give this item a "0" if I could.

Good Knifes Are Sharp Knifes.
I love this tool because it is easy to use, gets the job done fast, and is small. I've never used it to sharpen an Axe, but I can say that my knifes are now always sharp because it takes zero skill to use. Sharpening a knife is as easy as "cutting" the knife sharpener a few times.
Get this tool, and you will always have a sharp knife.
BTW, the tool is just the right size, maybe 4 inches long (the picture makes it look like this is a big tool). When I got this as a Christmas gift, I was totally surprised because the picture makes it look big.

the plastic holder seems very flimsy, while it does fit the axe well, I don't think it sharpen the saw very much as I couldn't put much force on it.

Easy-to-Use Axe Sharpener
I bought the Fiskars Axe and Knife Sharpener so I could keep a sharp edge on the Fiskars 17-inch Splitting Axe I also bought. I like the design of this sharpener. The hand grip and shield are good safety features. I have used it on my pocket knife and on my hatchet and axe. It's very easy to use - not at all awkward. It put a sharp edge on my little knife as well as on the heavy blades of my hatchet and axe.

Serves its purpose
This probably isn't the greatest knife sharpener in the world, but it serves it's purpose and my knives are very sharp at the moment.
Overall pleased and would recommend to anyone looking for a low cost solution to the dull knife epidemic :)
This sharpener is the only one I have found that will sharpen my cheap kitchen knives. It will sharpen them to almost shaving. Believe me, that is very good for the cheap knives I have. Nothing else has come close.

Good, but some flaws
This is a handy tool that really simplifies sharpening. However, it has a few flaws.
Pros:
-Very Easy
-Hand Guard
-Lifetime Guarentee
Cons:
-Sharpens at 30 degree angle. Great for an axe, but for a knife, most people prefer a 20 or even a 10.
-Leaves black dust on the edge of cutlery
-Ok heres the big one: When sharpening, you press the axe into the sharpener and pull through the wheel. However, as you pull your axe out, it slices through the plastic in front of the wheel, there for somewhat dulling the axe. And sooner or later, you get deep cuts in the plastic, which really limits the sharpener's usefulness. Major design flaw.
Overall, the sharpener is great for axes, but for knives I tend to go back to the whetstone. And then there's the design flaw...

Design perfect, price right
My Tools of the Trade set of knives were not really sharp when I bought them and I couldn't get an edge with the sharpening steel that came with them. I decided, for the price, the Fisker axe/knife sharpener was worth a try. Glad I did. It has sharpened everything I've used on it. I didn't give it 5-stars because that would have been equivalent to the results of a professional knife sharpener. Using the Fiskar sharpener as needed should reduce the number of times you have to take your knives to a professional. I also have the Fiskars Pro Chopping Axe #7858 with which I'm satisfied.

Best Wood Splitter
This is the best wood splitter. It is much superior to the 6# maul I have used, even though it is much lighter at 4 1/2 #.
The handle length is just right for me at age 81, but might not suit a young Paul Bunyan.
In summary, I have been splitting wood a long time, but this is easily the most improved wood tool I have used.

Works better than anything else I've tried!
I've tried sharpening rods, stones, blocks, and more in an attempt to keep my kitchen knives sharp, and none worked nearly as well as this little gadget. I've owned this one for a couple of years now and it still does the job. You just slide the knife in and out of the "mouth" of it a few times until a satisfactory sharpening is achieved. I only wish I could use it for scissors, too!

Better than electric!
Several years ago, I bought an electric sharpening system for around $40 and was never very impressed. This Fiskars sharpener is 10 times better! It puts a razor-like edge on my knives with very little effort. I took it to my mother's house to do her knives, and all she could say was "WOW!" I would recommend this item to all.

A Reasonable Substitute for a Whetstone
If one really wants to put a razor sharp edge on an axe or knife, a set of diamond whetstones is the best way to do it. This painstaking manual process requires time and proper technique. Beware: a razor sharp edge is exactly that and not to be trifled with. On the other hand, if "pretty darn sharp" is good enough...and it should be for most utility purposes...a dedicated sharpening tool like the Fiskars will get the job done quickly and with minimum risk to one's fingers. There are a number of similar products on the market. This one comes from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point.
I love my sharpener, it restores the factory razor edge with ease, a must have.

Great companion for your4 Fiskars Axe!
This product is well made and does what it's supposed to with ease. It's far superior to other axe sharpeners I owned. I'd recommend it to everyone who puts their axe through it's paces. It's quick and easy to use, saving you time for chopping.
Good product for the price. It does provide a quick and easy "utility-grade" sharpening. However, it is no substitute for an old-fashioned (but time consuming) hand sharpening using stones.

knives and axes?
eh? You seriously think I'm going to use the same thing to sharpen the Henckels 4 star knives I use to prepare family meals AND the axes I use to chop wood?
Seriously. This sharpener will reset just about any blunted knife or axe to a finely honed edge.
It does just a good a job on a fine filleting knife as it does on my favorte chopping axe - I just have to remember to clean it before I switch uses.
Now if only they made a lawnmower that could julienne vegetables....

My mother left me this, and it's great!
I'm a utilitarian kind of guy. I can handle dirty, torn coveralls. A cracked, scuffed hockey mask doesn't faze me. Heck, even if I get some pokes and scrapes while on the job, that comes with the territory.
But I absolutely demand the sharpest edges possible when I use a knife or an axe. There's no point (ha!) in doing a slicing or hacking job with a dull blade.
That's why I highly recommend the Fiskars 78616984 Axe and Knife Sharpener. With this useful tool, I can sharpen any blade I pick up in minutes, with an exact 30-degree angle (thanks to the patented ceramic wheel). Plus, the pop-up head (excuse me?) makes cleaning a breeze. It even has a built-in safety guard to protect one's hands.
It's kind of a bummer that the Fiskars 78616984 Axe and Knife Sharpener isn't available for gift-wrapping, because my pals Michael and Freddy would each love one as a surprise.
I never head off to camp without my Fiskars 78616984 Axe and Knife Sharpener!
