An absolute must have
What a shame the series ran only one season. It is so well written and perfectly cast. My 15 year old started to watch it with me and I later found him in the middle of the night finishing the whole series! The added features, outtakes and commentary are fun to watch too. It is well worth every penny, don't miss this one.
I'm on the 4th disc right now and every episode just gets better and better. I know I can just watch them over and over again!

Greatest Comedy Ever!!!
It truly is a shame that this incredible show only lasted one season, but this season really does deliver, in every way possible! Fantastic acting, writing, music, and more. I am happy with the condition of the box set, and it arrived quickly after I placed the order. I highly recommend this show to all fans of shows like "The Wonder Years" and "My so-called Life".
One of the best tv shows (series) I've ever seen! Great music from the 80's and a true-to-life perspective of high school, not just from the 80's, but even for today. It's universal - all teachers & students should have to watch & learn! The geeks and freaks are still out there.
took a little while for it to come in the mail but over all good service, quality product two thumbs up.

How did I miss this one?
I can't believe it took me so long to catch this. It's pretty funny to look back now knowing how almost all of these young actors turned out. Great casting choices across the board - has a little of everything - heart, comedy, drama, and good music. Kudos for getting all of the original songs on the DVD set. Now, if we can just get The Wonder Years to receive this same treatment!

Over too soon...
One of the best shows to hit television in quite some time, and it was over way too soon. I found the characters (especially Sam & Lindsay) very easy to relate to, and perhaps that was why I enjoyed the show so much...I think I had a lot in common with both of them.
There's a little bit of drama, but it's not ridiculous. There is some comedy, but most of it is rather "geeky" humor, I suppose.
This show has gained quite a cult following and my guess is that the people who love it are the people who see themselves in the characters.
Wish it had lasted longer, it would have been great to get to know the freaks and geeks a bit better.
Many of the people have really taken off since the F&G days, James Franco probably most of all (Spider-Man, Tristan + Isolde) . Judd Apatow is obviously still working with many of the guys (Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and I look forward to seeing more of them in the future.

Loved this series!
I cannot understand why the network canceled such a timely show! The writing was dead on and the acting was note perfect. None of these kids in the show had that way-too-intelligent/old soul way of talking that some kids did, such as in Dawson's Creek, so unrealistic! No one I knew growing up pontificated like that! These kids were awkward, geeky, trying on new persona, lost at times, but REAL. And this show could make you howl with laughter and squirm with discomfort. My husband and I were geeks in middle school, and some of these episodes are so dead-on that my husband has to leave the room, it was so realistic, bringing back uncomfortable memories. If you haven't seen this show, and you were a fan of My So-Called Life, PLEASE! Give this series a shot! Thank me later. And then mourn it's loss when you have raced through all the episodes. There are some great tributes to this series on You Tube, too.

One Exceptional Show
Despite having a degree in Media Studies and am able to discuss this show on a academic level - I'd much rather just express how well written and acted this show is, never mind funny!!! I had never seen the show - but got to watch with my 12 yr.old as he recovered from having his tonsils out - anyway to quote my kid "I am going to miss them when there is no more to watch" - these characters and their sentiment (all of them, parents included) are as real as it gets and so are the laughs. Kuddos to the writers, directors, actors, producer and musical director! I just wish you could have ROCKED ON!!!!

I cried when the last show ended.
I have just recently discovered Freaks and Geeks, and now I don't know how I could have missed it when it was on television, well, probably because only 18 episodes aired, so that sure did not help my initial chances. But thank god for netflix, where I was able to discover this show and watch all 18 episodes in about three weeks. I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS! and even last night had a dream that I was hanging out with Kim and Nick. Now how is that for twisted? I love them! And when the Grateful Dead rolled the ending credits and Leslie and Kim jumped in that van to go hear them, I balled like a baby. I think I relived a little bit of my youth at that moment. I will purchase this DVD box set without hesitation and watch it faithfully. I am in love with this show and can relate to so much of it. I am glad it existed if even only for a brief moment in television history.
I watched this show when I was younger and then saw it at a video store and watched it again. Now im hooked...

A set bursting at the seams with goodies
When people list shows that were cancelled before their time, "Freaks and Geeks" will frequently come out. With NBC basically clueless about what to do with it despite rabid and passionate fanbases, the show moved to bad timeslots and pre-empted episode showings before getting the axe. And while there's a huge devoted following to the show, I only heard of the show recently and finding it on sale at the store, I figured I'd see what the big deal is and while I'll admit it's funny and well-written, I wouldn't say it's when of the perfect shows out there.
The show, set somewhere around 1980, centers on the title groups, the "freaks" or the ones that are too cool to attend all their classes, prefer lazying around and rocking out, and the "geeks" who love Steve Martin and "Star Wars". In the center of both groups is Lindsay and Sam Weir who try to find their place in high school as Lindsay sheds her mathlete image and hangs with the misfits while Sam struggles with young adolescence and being in love with someone that tells you the dreaded f-word: "friend".
Even though I graduated from high school a few years ago, many of the themes and character moments presented in the show are just as familiar to me as anyone. From the faculty member who thinks he's cool from the punks who think they're better than everyone, there's a lot here people can relate to. Getting away from the overdone melodrama of Dawson's Creek where everyone will inevitably sleep with everybody, this show had least had the intelligence to follow these characters realistically. While future Apatow movies like "40 Year Old Virgin" combined this with more raunchy humor (to a strange disconnect for me, personally), it's this and his follow-up series "Undeclared" that I prefer for taking on more universal themes.
Ironically, the problem I have with the show is some of the characters. While some I loved having such as nerdish Bill, school's badboy Daniel or central character Lindsay, some of the others kind of irritated me. Nick Andapolis, a frequent stoner with ambitions as a drummer, is incredibly creepy and no girl I know would find anything he does romantic and even a bit uncomfortable. Ken, played by Seth Rogan of "Knocked Up" fame, is basically the dry-humored guy who puts down almost everything and doesn't stray too far from that while Sam is incredibly whiny and can barely get through a line without cracking a smile. At least the adults like Tom Wilson, Larry Flaherty and Dave Allen add some spark to the show.
One thing that I can appreciate is the amount of love the creators had for the show as evidenced with the DVD. Attractive book-like packing that reminds me of the old "Smallville" sets, there's lots of featurettes and surprisingly, many commentaries. I'm talking at least 29 commentaries for 18 episodes here folks with people who worked on the show, starred in the show, actors on the show in character and fan commentaries. While most of us probably won't even check out half of em, it's nice to see such a huge assortment of goodies available to fans as opposed to the rather anemic ones on other sets (2 commentaries and 3 featurettes? Booooo).
I'd recommend Freaks and Geeks since there's bound to be people that love it but there's plenty of other shows that I absolutely love and there's some I like, and well...I like Freaks and Geeks.
"Freaks and Geeks", although shortlived, is one of the most relatable and hilarious accounts of high school ever created. I guess the closest comparison I can think of would be my personal favorite, "The Wonder Years" which is a huge compliment to this show. This is a great series for people of all ages, young and old, and it's great seeing how a bunch of these young and talented actors got their start.

so AWESOME it hurts to think about it!
Disclosure: I was one of the diehard fans that petitioned creator Paul Feig to put his series on DVD after it was cancelled. Now that you know where I'm coming from, I have to tell you that the set is FANTASTIC! It was clearly put together with much love and dedication for an awesome series that was tortured by NBC before getting the ax. I splurged and got the "yearbook" edition, [...]. The DVDS come packaged in a yearbook with tons of cast photos, essays, interviews and episode notes. Even without all that stuff, though, this collection is a must-have for all Judd Apatow fans (and now there are many, thanks to "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up"). The only downside is that after you watch the last episode you CANNOT BELIEVE this show was cancelled and you will ache for more.

I effing love this DVD set!
I had somehow never seen this show before and netflixed it. I watched one episode and promptly bought the series on AMAZON because I couldn't imagine not watching the rest of it immediately. I think I even went total dork and got the next day shipping. I love it. I have watched it all the way through at least 12 times since then and it has become a requirement of being my friend to watch it with me. Everyone I have introduced it to loves it also. It's incomparable, with the hilarious Judd Apatow comedic genius, an intensely wonderful soundtrack (the scene from the episode where Nick tells Lindsay there's a song describing exactly how he feels about her and then plays Lady by Styxx cracks me up every time! I fall into hysterical peals of laughter no matter how many times I watch it), and very real relatable characters. I myself was a smart kid who decided smoking pot and listening to 70's rock was way cooler than school, of course, I did it in the early nineties as opposed to 1980, but I felt like I understood it just as well as if I'd jumped into Kim's sweet Gremlin and headed off to tour with the Dead myself. Buy this set, you will not regret it...well, unless you're a douche.
This is the funniest show ever!! But I'm sad that there is only one season...

A Time Capsule Back to Public High School of the 80s
I grew up in the public school system of the 1980s and really identified with this emotional and humorous series created by Paul Feig. All characters are perfectly cast and are portrayed dealing with the same confusing and stressful situations that come with the teenage experience that many of us can identify with in some capacity. The period music of the series is a pivotal connecting point with the 80s and these characters, spanning from RUSH to Van Halen to Billy Joel to Alice Cooper to the Who and more. Cameo performances are also a joy, including Joel Hodgson and Trace Beaulieu from MST3K fame and Jason Schwartzmann to name a few. A great trip back to the often scary and humorous public high school teenage experience of the 80s. Paul Feig has also written two books on this subject as well, which I found to be as rewarding as this series. These characters really stayed with me.
This is an amazing series, one of the best on television in years. Its really incredible. It nails the subject matter at every turn, and I can't stop watching it.

Honest and heartwrenching
This has been my favorite TV series since it came out. I re-bought it because my deluxe edition got scratched up and they no longer sell that version. Judd Apatow and Paul Feig have both since been involved in popular projects like 40 Year Old Virgin and Arrested Development. This show is definitely worth watching.
Freaks & Geeks is the reason I barely ever watch TV. That this GREAT show was cancelled after 18 episodes (Only 13 aired I believe)when endless lists of horrible shows go on and on season after season is exactly why TV sucks. Freaks & Geeks is such a great show, the actors are perfect the writing was spectacular. NO coincidence that the group responsible have been coming out with the best movies of the last few years as well.

Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!!!
This is one of the best tv shows EVER in tv history. However like all good things unfortunatly it didn't last long. For anyone who felt like high school was cruel or lame or whatever, needs to check this show out. Any kid entering high school should watch this show. I love how honest it is, it's not melodramtic like 90210 or even Degrassi: Next Generation. This show goes there but not that extreme. Also unlike My So-Called Life, it's funny. My So-Called Life had it's funny moments but was more of a drama. I like Freaks and Geeks because of the comedic element, because that's how life is, it shows that sometimes the funny people have their issues as well and deal with them like adulterous parents or having your mom date your p.e. coach. I could definitly identify with Lindsay, I felt the same exact way my sophomore year. And I remember when this show came out and trying to catch it whenever I could but it was scheduled at a bad time, Friday's at 8 or 9, then it moved to Saturday's. The few episodes I did see were great and I would tell friends about it and they never heard of it. And who knew years later Judd Apatow and his motley crue of collaborators would become a comedy gold mine. Also Paul Feig who created this show, he's such a great writer who's written some great episodes of other shows like Arrested Development and The Office. God bless dvd, although there is only one season of this show it will be timeless.
This was a favorite tv series of mine (though short-lived) and I was thrilled to see that I could get it in it's entirety on dvd. It's a great set - 6 discs with all 18 episodes, plus many different commentaries, some deleted scenes and great liner notes by the creators of the show, which tell all about each individual episode. If you are a fan of the show you will love this set. And the price is very reasonable too.

Taken before its time!
There are some shows that complete their run, and although you love them, you feel they are complete and you can let them go in peace. On the other hand, you have amazing shows like this one that are taken far before their time. Like Veronica Mars and Arrested Development, everytime I watch Freaks and Geeks, I wistfully savor every moment (sigh) and wonder how these treasures were cancelled, while there are 47 different versions of CSI on at any given time. Definitely buy this DVD set. Do it!

This is not a comedy
I work during prime time television but I always see what shows are being talked about. When this came out on DVD, I bought it because Freaks and Geeks was a show that got rave reviews from magazines. But I never saw it. I bought the complete series here and I gotta say - it's horrible. This is so cliche and unfunny that it is unwatchable. Oh, Sam broke up with a cheerleader - so what? It wasn't worth getting up to that point. If you are thinking about getting this because you are curious but never saw it - rent it first....It's a drama not a comedy. If you like comedy check out good shows like The Office or Mr. Show.

True From 1967 On
After enjoying Judd Apatow's, Knocked Up and Super Bad I thought I'd do my homework and study one of his first adventures, a TV series that barely got on the air, Freaks and Geeks. I missed it altogether the first time through. Though there's little obvious frisky activity and the booze and drug scenes are limited to brief experimentations, the general impression of G&F is a reality somewhat theatrical, but close to the 1980 high school experience. That experience has been consistent from about 1967 on. The less popular kids live a life of overindulgent internal fantasy, as their persona is lower than dirt. The athletes and cheerleaders have a better time of it on the surface, but suffer youth angst anyhow.
Linda Cardenelli gets the most face time and she is very good, a brainiac with a loss of faith. God doesn't exist because grandma told her so. Okay, now we'll be deadheads and live the Gerry Garcia lifestyle. Forget that scholarship to Michigan. I had an old Army jacket like the one she tents her body with. That's because I was in the army, but I digress. Yes, there's an undertow of progressive politics in here somewhere. The young Republican cheerleader that John Frances Daly of the juvenile good-looks has fallen for turns out to be kind of Gerald Ford dull despite the make out sessions.
There's that geek kid with the goggle glasses, Martin Starr though. I swear, he's really a retard or Lawrence Olivia. Also, special mention for Seth Rogan. This guy's subtle sarcasm made his scenes stand out. His predicament when he finds out his girlfriend was born with all possible equipment is priceless.

Nearly flawless in execution, Freaks and Geeks is one of the best shows I've ever seen
When the credits started to roll at the end of the last episode, Discos and Dragons, I was profoundly sad. I was so because: 1) I knew this show only lasted for one season, so there was no more to see; and 2) it is another sad example of how great - no, prodigious - television is denied airtime because of low ratings. This is the kind of show that should cause TV snobs who are proud to advertise to the world that they don't even own a TV to go buy one just to watch this.
Television doesn't get much better than this. Although billed as a comedy, and while the show steadily delivers staggering punch lines, this is as much drama as comedy. There are *real* characters in this show, with real feelings, and quantifiable reactions to stimuli that resound with verity. While many shows that chronicle a time past suffer from an abundance of anachronisms, this does not. As a child of the 80s - my freshman year in high school began in the fall of 1980 - I can vouch for the shows authentic grounding.
Freaks and Geeks won an Emmy, Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, and not only is that spot-on and deserved, it also serves as greater frustration for this show's single season stint. Even in the best shows, there's often one character that doesn't quite fit their role. Eric Mabius, IMHO, is a good example. He has essentially two roles on Ugly Betty: 1) the playboy who, for complex and mostly paternal reasons, resembles the prodigal son and a frighteningly irresponsible executive; and 2) the reforming playboy who wants to succeed, is riddled with self-doubt - again, mostly for paternal reasons, and responds positively to Betty's unflagging encouragement. In the second role, he's outstanding. In the first, he's not believable.
There are no miscasts in this show.
From the hippy guidance counselor trying to relate to a new breed of students that emerged almost as anti-hippies, to fringe characters like the discotheque DJ, every character is fully realized and acts in congruence with their personality. I didn't notice one single character in the entire season who ever said or did anything that disagreed with that character's core personality. That doesn't mean that nobody grew. They did, and that is the genius of this show. Every main character, and most fringe characters, experienced growth.
***Spoiler...read the next two paragraphs at your own risk! ***
The best example (again, IMHO) was that of Sam, played by John Francis Daley. He began the school year hopelessly in love with Cindy Sanders. Not Cindy - Cindy Sanders. As he was a "geek", and she was a cheerleader, the likelihood of them coming together seemed possible only if Cindy Sanders stepped out of character. However, they did get together, and Cindy did not step out of character. It seemed that the show's writers, producers, etc., laid the groundwork for their potential relationship early on, so when it finally happened, it felt normal. Granted, Cindy expressed interest in Sam a bit too quickly after breaking up with her handsome jock boyfriend Todd, but her reasons for wanting to get together with Sam, which were that she wanted to go out with a *nice* guy (and Sam is nothing if not a nice guy) were convincing.
But a funny thing happened. Sam discovered that he was bored when they hung out together. They went to malls, and spent the rest of the time making out. Neal couldn't understand what could be wrong with that, but *we* know. If you have nothing in common with a person, it doesn't matter how attracted you are to them. Ennui will set in and fester like a suppurating ulcer, and the relationship itself, if untended, will become septic. So Sam makes the unbelievably brave decision to break up with Cindy Sanders. I might not have believed that his character was capable of such bravery - for what geek, especially in high school, would ever break up with a cheerleader? - but again, as the series progressed, we learned that Sam was not just a nice guy, he was a guy who knew what was right and what was wrong, and someone who was very comfortable in his own skin. He knew who he was, and he knew that Cindy would not make him happy.
***End of Spoiler***
It's a shame that this show was cancelled, but that is often the fate of great TV. Low ratings, low advertising dollars, no money for the network, so, so long and good-bye.
I would have loved to watch Sam and his friends grow up, mostly because I had absolute faith in the show's producers and writers to continue presenting us with great television. It would have offered an interesting counterpoint to 90210, where, IMHO, we saw plots change, characters given different "assignments", but no real growth.
One thing the show didn't do was show the extremes. There are "freaks", and then are "FREAKS". Same goes for geeks. That was a wise decision. The freaks were kinder and gentler, and the geeks weren't quite as extreme as one would expect. This allowed us to relate to them better than we would have if those factions were represented by the extremes. (That should go without saying.)
What is great, though, is that we're seeing some of the brilliance of Judd Apatow's and Paul Feig's work on the silver screen. Knocked Up and Superbad had all of the sensibility of Freaks and Geeks.
Here's to hoping that they have long careers ahead of them.

Best one-season series ever
I just finished watching the complete series of Freaks and Geeks and it left me wanting more. Sadly, I am unable to watch more episodes of Freaks and Geeks as NBC executives cancelled just over halfway into the series due to low ratings. Low ratings came as a result of placing a series on Saturday nights.
The series focuses on Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini) and her brother Sam (John Francis Daley) during the year of 1980-81.
They are joined in the cast by the Freaks: Daniel Desario (James Franco), Ken Miller (Seth Rogen), Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel), and Kim Kelly (Busy Philipps). The Geeks include: Neal Schweiber (Samm Levine) and Bill Haverchuck (Martin Starr). The Weir parents were Harold and Jean, played by Joe Flaherty and Becky Ann Baker.
The series starts as Lindsay wants a change in her life. She's tired of being just the smart mathlete and starts hanging out with the freaks. Sam and his friends are tired of being geeks and want to fit in.
There were notable guest appearances on this show, often going unhyped, with the likes of Ben Stiller, Shia LaBeouf, Rashida Jones, Allan Covert, Ben Foster, Jason Schwartzmann, David Koechner etc.
It's evident from the get go that Sam likes Cindy Sanders, a cheerleader, who likes Sam because he's nice. However, we don't find out til later on that she likes Todd, a jock. Towards the end of the series, Cindy starts dating Sam but they have nothing in common as evidenced by the fact that she doesn't find anything funny about The Jerk while the theater is laughing up a storm.
Bill's mom is dating Mr. Ben Fredericks (played by Thomas F. Wilson of Back to the Future fame), the gym teacher. Bill is upset at first but then they start to get to know each other better. Towards the end of the series, he and Vicki, the head cheerleader actually make out during "7 minutes in heaven."
Other great casting choices included Dave "Gruber" Allen as the guidance counselor and David Krumholtz as Neal's older brother, barry.
All in all, this was a great series. The casting played a huge role--Allison Jones, Coreen Mayrs and Jill Greenberg won an Emmy award for Outstanding casting. Two episodes were nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Pilot, Discoes and Dragons).

Freaks and Geeks Review
This set was the best thing I've ever bought on DVD. I wish the show had aired for more seasons but nonetheless, it's great to have it now. There are a ton of very cool interviews and bonus features too, great buy.
I watched this show when it was on, and then the re-runs of it, and once those stopped playing I had to buy it for myself. It's one of my all-time favorite shows. Hilarious, heartbreaking, sweet, touching, and cringe-inducing. I love it all.
Finally, a show about the kind of people I hung out with in high school. It makes me wince with embarassment to watch it sometimes, which is just a testament to how real it is, and how GREAT the actors are. It's perfect to own on DVD because it's something you'll want to watch over and over again. Judd Apatow is a genius, and the entire cast is hilarious and talented (even though I do save most all my fangirl love for Seth Rogen).
Also - the music ROCKS. It just ROCKS!
I don't know how many times I've loaned it out to people, and so far everyone I've loaned it to has loved it. It's definitely worth every penny.

One of the best shows of its time
This show is absolutely genius. Whenever I watch an episode, it takes me back to that time. I find myself connecting with every character in one way or another. These kids are dealing with problems that real kids deal with in high school. It's not another one of those Dawson's Creek shows that favor the preppy kids and make high school seem so black and white. This is the real deal. Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are totally boss!

Do yourself a favor and buy this brilliant DVD set!
You won't regret it, I promise you. However, I was quite reluctant to buy this set awhile back just because the show sounded like another one of those lame teenage sitcoms that is more stupid than funny. And the title--"Freaks and Geeks"--doesn't really make you want to watch it. Personally, I think it's one of the reasons the show didn't find an audience--who wants to watch a show about "freaks" and "geeks"? But NBC did not help the show any by airing it on Saturday night (this was long after the days of Mary & Bob & Carol & "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island"). "Freaks and Geeks" never really had a chance to succeed--and that's a crying shame, my friends.
This show is a classic. Even with only 18 episodes. I watched this series on DVD, just sadly shaking my head and going "How could such a wonderful show be cancelled after only one season when so much other TV garbage goes on for years and years?" Life is a cruel bitch--at least to poor "Freaks and Geeks". But you can rejoice that it's been released on DVD with tons of extras.
So what's the show about? Basically it's about two groups of teens at a Michigan high school in 1980--the "freaks" (who smoke pot and get high and just hang out together, man) and the "geeks" (who are young and nerdy and always get picked on by the jocks and are definitely not cool). What makes "Freaks and Geeks" so outstanding is the excellent writing that really captures the 1980 high school experience and the culture/fads of that year, the perfect cast who make you care about each and every character and the music. This is no lame "WKRP in Cincinnati" DVD set--oh no, all the original music of the series has been retained so we get to hear Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright", The Little River Band's "Reminiscing", Billy Joel's "Don't Ask Me Why", and many many other great tunes of the era (Van Halen, Styx, Cheap Trick, Journey, Supertramp--just to name a few others).
My favorite performances: Linda Cardellini as Lindsay (who is now on "ER"), James Franco as Daniel, Seth Rogen as Ken (who starred in "Knocked Up" and "Superbad" this year), Jason Segel as Nick (who is now on "How I Met Your Mother"), and Becky Ann Baker and Joe Flaherty (from SCTV) as Lindsay's parents.
My favorite episodes: the Halloween episode "Tricks and Treats", "The Little Things" (which received a nomination from GLAAD) and "Discos and Dragons" (which gives us Jason Segel's hysterical disco dancing and James Franco becoming a bit of a "geek" as he discovers the game of Dungeons & Dragons).
The DVD set features deleted scenes from every episode, outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage AND 29 commentary tracks by the actors, writers and directors (many episodes have TWO commentaries!).
It's an amazing show that will make you wish the series was still on the air today--or had at least lasted a few seasons (like the dearly departed "Arrested Development"). And the box set is terrific (SHOUT! Factory deserves a big kiss for releasing such an outstanding DVD set). I could sit right down now and watch the entire series all over again, it's that good. So buy someone this DVD for Christmas--especially if you want them to love you forever. And they will.
I was Sam Weir growing up, and I felt I was watching an edited version of my HS trauma...this show is uncanny in how authentic the portrayals are! I also wouldn't have minded a knockout like Lindsey as my sister! the fact that John Francis Daley was actually 13 during filming, made this even more real. My favorite scene is in episode#5 when love's theme plays as Sam is in the office. Judd and Paul, put out the soundtrack! This show also proves that no good comedy needs a laugh track.
This is really one of the best shows of all time, enjoy, freaks and geeks of the world (myself included!)

My Favorite Show of All Time!
I was loaned this disc from a friend on a whim and never before have I been so delightfully surprised. This show is funny, touching (in a non-sentimental way), and irreverent. My wife and I watched the entire season in less than 2 weeks and I actually got sad when it was over. Stuff like this can never last too long, it's not meant to. It's meant to be unappreciated in it's time and snuffed-out early.
I had heard of this show when it was on TV, but never got a chance to see it for whatever reason. I checked it out because everyone I ever talked to said this was one of the best shows of all time, so I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype.
without a doubt. This show is amazing. I'm upset that I missed it during it's original run, but am glad that I now have the complete series with oh so many extras. 29 commentaries, bloopers, deleted scenes w/ commentary, auditions, sneak previews, and more. This is definitely worth the money.

One of the best TV shows of the last ten years is Freaks And Geeks, and in this box the complete eighteen-episode series can be yours for one low-low price. But that's not all! You'll also get:
Delete scenes!
Audio commentary!
Interviews with cast and creators!
Bonus material!
And more!
MUCH more!
Probably the most realistic and yet endearing show about high school ever made for American TV, and loaded with talent. Freaks And Geeks is intelligent, nostalgic, satisfying, and darkly funny. It's the antidote to mediocre programming, and even while it makes you watch it should remind you of just how badly the stratified caste system of public education sucked!
High School Musical this ain't...

Best $55 I've Spent in a While
I cannot believe that this show got cancelled. This show GOT IT RIGHT! Funny and painful at the same time. If you want to remember what high school was like, but without the laugh track supplied by the producers, GET THIS DVD. Arguably one of the best shows ever made. Even though there are only 18 episodes. And watching Sam Weir thinking he's the hottest thing when he bought his baby blue Parisian jumpsuit is both funny, troubling and at times unwatchable....but in the best way. I cannot recommend this enough. My wife & I were staying up well past our normal bedtime constantly saying "OK....one more episode"!
I watched a few episodes of this on Irish tv years ago (mainly because I thought Linda Cardellini was gorgeous!) and remembered quite liking it especially the great music. The whole cast are excellent, my favourites being James Franco and the guy who plays Neil, Sam's friend. Very funny and quite touching at times. Not schmaltzy like the wonder years, or vacuous and wannabe like most other teen shows, buy this and shame those network executive idiots who cancelled this show by driving its sales through the roof!

The funniest show--for parents and kids
I never saw this show when it first aired, but my brother turned me on to the DVDs, and it is one of the funniest (and also honest) shows I have ever watched--it captures high school perfectly. I watch it with my about-to-enter-middle-school son, who loves it as much as I do--as preparation for all the tough years that are about to come! Maybe now that people know Judd Apatow from his movies, they'll come back and revive this wonderful gem.

HANDS DOWN.... one of the BEST SHOWS EVER
I was completely blown away by how good this show is. It is far and away the best show to be cancelled that soon, by the end of it you wish there was more. However, rewatching each episode is almost just as good, because there are a ton of subtle things you may have missed, and the audio commentaries on this box-set are amazing, they are very fun to listen to. Buying this boxset is a must for anyone.

Criminally Cancelled
Terrific, touching and well played, sans a star as the show ends abruptly. Does James Franco not age?

Just buy it. You'll thank me.
If I were to sum the greatness of this show in one sentence, it would be: this is something you should definitely see before you die.
one of, if not the best show on tv...should've made way more than one season.

Freaks and Geeks review
My friend said it best, once she had finished the last episode: "There's an incredible empty sadness that occurs when you watch the last show...knowing there are no more and there never will be."
One of the most hysterical and most human shows in television's history, a true example of the medium's power in the right hands. It's uncanny that some suits cancelled it before it reached it's full potential. Get it. And kiss the next few days goodbye.

One of the best shows ever.
My title more or less says it all.
This show does a great job of creating characters that we love not because they're so cool or so beautiful, but because they're so real and relatable.
The cast is great across the board - freaks, geeks, teachers, parents, and especially Millie. If only there had been just one more season - or two or three or five...

Believe The hype
I have to admit that I was spurred to buy the Freaks & Geeks TV series DVD set by the constant references to it in the Onion AV Club posts. It was definately a worthwhile purchase providing several hours of enjoyment, and I haven't even listened to all the extra commentaries available (I believe there are two for every episode-of which there are 18). It has several cringe-worthy awkward teenager moments, but it also captures the everyday ups and downs of high school life in a more realistic fashion than most TV teen dramas. One of the main reasons, probably ahs something to do with Judd Apatow (The Larry Sanders Show, The 40 Year Old Bachelor, Knocked Up), but credit must also go to the creator Paul Feig who was inspired to make a homage to his high school days. There are some standout performances by people like Linda Cardellini who went onto fame as an ER regular. Other cast members would become Apatow regulars like Seth Rogen (star of Knocked Up), Jason Segel, and Martin Starr.
It is set in 1981 in Michigan and covers some uncharted territory like pot smoking, fake IDs, dungeons and dragons, and other more well worn themes (fist kiss, cheating in school, getting picked on by bullies). However, one of the more inspiring aspect of the series was the music which combines the sublime (The Who, Faces, Joe Jackson, the Cars, etc...) with the dated (Van Halen, Styx, Journey, etc...), but completely appropriate in all cases. I love the scene where Sam asks a girl for a slow dance to Styx's "Come Sail Away" and it switches from a slow dance to a fast dance just as he gets on the dance floor-absolutely hilarious.

should have kept rocking on...
I never watched this while it was on air, and i'm sad that I didnt. I loved this show. I love anything Judd Apatow puts his hands on. I would have to say that this is my favorite DVD purchas I have bought this year.
