Not sure what all everyone is fusing about
I'm a professional photographer that travels alot and I bought the 760 last weekend and I have been using it for about a week. I love this product and I haven't had any problems. It only takes me about 30 seconds to plug in an address and I'm on my way. The blue tooth feature works great and the I don't have any sound issues like the others have complained of. The FM reciever is also wonderful and the unit gets me around high traffic areas in Atlanta. The only thing I have not tried is the sound through the speakers in my car. Overall this unit is great and I couldn't ask for more from this divice.
I'm fairly new to the GPS world and I was VERY overwhelmed trying to pick the best unit for me because everyone made the reviews so complicated. The bottom line is this product gets the job done --- I love it.
Hope this review helps us "simple minded" people.

Bluetooth Compatibility Issues
I just received my Garmin 760. I wish to point out that I've owned several navigation units including Garmin nuvi 200, Navigon 2100, Tom Tom one and a couple of Magellan basic units. I was very much looking forward to this unit after all the hype and the awesome reviews on the net. I couldn't wait to pair the 760 with my LG Voyager. What a disappointment!
After trying different things for well over an hour I decided to call Verizon who in turn put me in contact with LG. The LG rep put me on hold for a couple of minutes and then came back on the line to let me know that the only two phones they carry which are compatible with the 760 are the 8600 and the 9400.
after I hung up with him I decided to try my wife's newly acquired Blackberry Storm. Guess What? IT WORKS JUST FINE! Here is a phone that came out last week and it hooked right up. The Voyager has been around for a year and does not work with the 760. Please note, I did upgrade the firmware prior to attempting to pair the phones. My advice... Check your phones compatibility with the manufacturer to avoid any disappointment.I haven't yet decided if it's worth it to me to keep the 760 and buy another compatible phone or hope that garmin or LG may put out another firmware miracle to correct this problem? Maybe I'll just give the Garmin to my wife... Yeah, right!

Garmin GPS nuvi 760
Just got it and have found it to save me time and gas. I travel many midwestern & southern states and find it sometimes takes me on different routes than I'm used to. All in all it has saved me time and gas money.
For the price an excellent purchase. I like the voice calling out the streets so I can concentrate on the road.

Excellent Deal, Excellent Quality, & Superfast Delivery
I ordered nuvi 760 this Tuesday, and got it on Thursday. After receiving the unit, I just could not wait to try it on my trip to Slugger Museum and Louisville Zoo, the two places we are completely unfamiliar with and had never been to. The GPS led us to our destinations and did its job beautifully. I also found that this unit is made in Taiwan, and to my knowledge, products made in Taiwan are always high quality guaranteed, and this unit is absolutely no exception.
Another big plus is the interface is really user-friendly, and even my 7-year-old son can operate it, not to mention his fourth-grade brother. The points of interest installed in this unit are also amazing. And even in very remote areas, it still offers tons of places for lodging, restaurants, and attractions, and more and more. This saves me a lot of time from researching tour books and maps. How incredible is that! I highly recommend this unit to those families who love to travel and explore new places.
Stepped up from a NUVI 360. Wider screen is very nice. Other features are about the same. The one thing that bothers me (and I've contacted Garmin, who said that's the way it is), is that if you have found a POI and you want to make a Waypoint of it and dump it into the unit, it will NOT allow you to import the Comment. (phone number, address, state, zip) to your Favorites.
In other words, you can only import the name of the Waypoint...
Then... you can only add the phone number in the unit's Favorites, no address, state, zip, suite #, etc...
Paying more money for a unit should not have the developers subtract a nice feature that was in a less expensive unit, a feature to let you customize the way the Waypoint in your Favorites reads. Otherwise, I like the unit and will stick with the English, instead of the English Emily TTS. I found the TTS voices are not as loud and are distorted and not as clear at high volumes.
I returned the new Navigon 7200T. I feel it was a lot of hype and not as many useful features as Garmin...
I recently purchased the 760 and I really like it. The larger screen is really nice. The blue tooth connectivity works really well, it hooked up with my Blackberry Pearl very easily with no problem at all. Unfortunately, the FM transmitter is just a little weak, consequently there is a little too much background white noise and interference. For the most part the maps are pretty good, but of all the things it has my own home address wrong, it's about 4 houses off. I downloaded the latest maps and it still didn't fix the problem. For the most part it gets me where I'm going very nicely. There are a lot of Points of Interest, but it takes just a little digging to get to them unlike my older and much cheaper MIO which floats POIs such as gas stations and hotel icons right across the screen to let you know that they are up ahead. I wish the 760 had this feature, or at least make the POIs more readily accessible. The mounting bracket has a swivel knuckle that works very good which makes the bracket quite sturdy. Over all I like this unit a lot it would be excellent if Garmin made the FM transmitter stronger. I do recommend this unit.
this is a beautiful machine, you will never get lost again, you you will feel safe on the road, i took a trip 300 miles away without knowing where i was going, i got there and back without an itch, i strongly recommend it

Overall good product, but still far from perfect
I've had my 760 for a couple of months now and overall I'm happy with it. I like that it will give me traffic information, as well as restaurants, gas stations, etc. It has some features that are available that I don't really use such as bluetooth, mp3 player and it also allows you to get the voice to play thru your car speakers via an unused FM station frequency.
My biggest gripe with it is the routing. Even though I know my way around Houston pretty well, I use my GPS to get me around heavy traffic to and from work. There are times where it tries to send me on very odd routes or it will frequently tell me to exit off the main freeway to an access road and back up to the freeway for no apparent reason. I have changed the settings from fastest to shortest in the navigation options but that doesn't help.
I am about to go on a long road trip from Houston to Orlando and I think it will come in real handy but when it comes to city driving, I don't put a whole lot of faith in it, unfortunately.
One of the things I'm a little confused about, also is the difference (if there IS one) between the software that is installed on the device vs. City Navigator North America which would cost me about $70. If anybody knows if this is worth the expense, I'd certainly appreciate the feedback.

Nuvi 760 aka Jill
Well having had / worked another GPS for a few years this has been a pure pleasure.Very easy to read, its bright in the daytime, auto-dims at night and is very intuitive.Between the written, voice, and visual directions, anyone of which will get you where your going, you can't go wrong.
I use mine everyday in work to weave my way through all the one-way back streets of downtown Boston, its Great,I love it,and would recommend the nuvi 760 to anyone of my friends or family. And that's just the navigation part.I've only scratched the surface.I'm just now getting into some of the other features /functions, but they appear to be the same easy to navigate and find info.experience that I've had so far.Enjoy
Sincerely

One of the easiest
I have owned other GPS units and this one is by far the easiest to use. It has a very large screen and the interface is really easy to use. I now use it to load audiobooks and music files and the FM interface is great. I have used this for a short time and I traveled through small towns and rural areas and this has been one of the best tools I have had! I would recommend this to anyone who needs an easy to use GPS and one that can be easily updated.

Garmin Needs Help
We got the unit back in August and it works great and the unit hasn't expericened any problems and is in use everyday. The car charger tip came off about two weeks after we got received the unit. We contact Garmin and they said they'd ship out a new cord ASAP. Well let's see that was in September and here it is Nov 21 and we are still waiting. Their customer service SUCKS as does their map updating site. Come on get it together Garmin, its not rocket science we're talking about. Just plain old customer service.

Almost everything
I usually read reviews written by others and figure at least part of the complaints are "user error." Before I ordered the Garmin Nuvi 760 I read the complaints about the FM transmission quality or lack of power and figured it probably had more to do with the cars' radios. Well, I got the 760 and can absolutely agree the FM transmitter capabilities are just barely above non-existant. No way is the music or navigation info transmitted with strong enough of a signal to make it usable. Bummer, as I was hoping to use that feature while we were on a trip in a rental car (wanted to listen to MP3 songs I had loaded on the 760). I've tried it in several cars and always the same results.
Otherwise, the 760 lives up to all the accolades and service. It was great at locating restaraunts while in completely unfamiliar (to me) territory. When the occasional missed turn occured the 760 quickly recalculated a corrected route. I was also very impressed with the 760's ability to display the posted speed limits, which it seemed to update within a few yards of us passing speed limit signs.
Overall a very good product and extremely easy to set up and use. The Bluetooth was a bit squirrely at first, but seems to be okay. The FM capabilities, well, are not capabilities and you should NOT buy the unit if the FM transmitter function is important to you.

Awesome Deal...Super Fast Shipping!
I ordered my Garmin Nuvi 760 on Monday 11/17/08 and received it on Wednesday 11/19!!!! It took only two days and I chose standard free shipping. The estimated shipping date was originally 11/24. Now that's what I call service...Amazon.com rocks! Anyhoo...one big concern was if it was loaded with old maps...not the case!!! It came loaded with the new North American 2009 maps!!!! Yahooo!!! No need to purchase update or get free download from Garmin. It looks and feels good...screen seems to be touch sensitive enough. I will have to play with features a bit more and test it out. I would recommend this GPS and of course Amazon.com as a seller! Do not buy from Broadwayphoto.com...absolutely rude and horrible customer service...and they refused to make a price adjustment on my order that was on backorder...they should read their own policy on that! Glad I canceled that order and came here...lesson learned. {rant over}
No problems so far with this unit. i really like the feature that states the name of the street that you need to turn on. other units just state turn left in 200 yards. That can be progmatic if there are two streets close together.

The best of the best in Garmin
This is my first time I bought a GPS for my car, because during years I have used the Microsoft Street & Trips 2006,2007, 2008 and this 2009 and I have decided to start a new 2009 year changing my MSS 2008 for a new Personal Travel Assistant and it doesnt have comparison.
The Nuvi 760 was the best option after I had review hundread options like precision and the price was very cheap additionally it has a incredible resolution, it's compact and easy to go anywhere.
I have borrowed a friend's GPS for over a year and finally decided to purchase one for myself and my driver (the hubby). We just love it! Would recommend this one to everyone. Great size, easy to use and great price.
I had to return my 760 within 3 weeks of purchase. After, 3 weeks of use the internal speaker stopped working. The FM transmitter signal is very weak. Maps are adequate, but a few point of interest where out of date. The maps seamed to take longer to load, when I had the SD card installed, which became a pain. Also, the price fluctuation on the 760 has me concerned. The cost of the 760 dropped nearly a hundred dollars, in 3 weeks, since I purchased it. I have used and like Nuvis. I may try again with a 7xx model (770 or 780), after watching the price go down.
This product is very easy to use! The hands free bluetooth is loud and clear. The screen is very bright lit and easy to navigate. The routes are are easy to follow. I especially like how it tells you how many miles/feet to turn then it counts down to zero and at zero tells you to make a turn left/right.
I haven't had any problems with it. Haven't been lost since I purchased this product.
I recommend this for anyone who's looking for a GPS.
Very good product. The bluetooth is a nice feature. Some of the maps are a little out of date, but this is a rare occurrence. I highly recommend this product.

Fantastic gps and blue tooth
This nuvi replaced an outdated Magellen roadmate 760. The garmin is so much more user friendly and basically so simple you dont need a manual. The blue tooth works extremely well sometimes you get a little static on the fm frequency if you are stopped at a stoplight. That is the only time I have noticed it. I use the fm transmitter a lot and have a sd card full of music I downloaded that the Garmin plays thru my car stereo. It works so well that I did not renew my sirius subscription. If you use the Garmin to play music through your car stereo it will lower the volume when you get a call and it does a fairly good job of allowing hands free calling through it. I am totally satisfied with this unit and love it. It also has a very bright display that you can see with no trouble on even the brightest day.
Excellent product. I live in San Antonio and recently travelled to Washington DC, it was a life-saver. I use it extensively in San Antonio every week. Highly recommend.
works great , only problem is fm receiver I find worthless as has insuffient range due to fcc restrictions. MSN direct has problems as data received is often innacurate and incomplete for desired information.
Prior to this we have had comparable Magellan and TomTom. This is the best, gives clear directions, easy to use and more reliable.

Good but I expected a little more
A good product that I do not regret buying BUT I am less than satisfied with for 2 reasons...
1) I quickly learned that the loaded mapping program is out of date. A few times I wasted time following the unit's instructions only to discover that I was directed to an old location. I also noticed that newer locations (open for business in the last 2 years) were not identified by the unit. You can look up the directions on Google maps and download the directions to the unit but, a) this is a hassle and b) you have to know in advance that the location is new enough NOT to be included on the program. You can also purchase the 2009 mapping program update (Garmin Map Update of 2009 City Navigator North America NT) but, when I priced it, I found that it costs 50+ dollars... the last thing I want to do after spending $300+ for the unit itself.
2) Another problem I have with the unit is that, to the best of my knowledge (I haven't had time to research it further), while you can find services (e.g., food, fuel, etc.) near your current location, you cannot know for sure the location is along the route you are currently traveling. Therefore, if you are traveling and need to stop for fuel, it is difficult to tell if the nearest gas station is actually the best one to go to (i.e., along your route). The "nearest" gas station could be just a few miles away but "off the beaten path" and not the most "convenient" choice.
My overall suggestion is, while I like my GPS unit, I'm not sure I got the best deal. I would suggest that you shop around before settling on this model... I'm guessing that I could have bought an equivalent model for about the same price. Good luck and happy shopping!!
Great GPS- we have used other brands in rental cars and this is the best yet! Very fast, and I use it every day and it hasn't gotten me lost or sent me on a route where I felt I shhould have gone a different way. Very easy to use. The traffic feature that I didn't think I needed is amazing. Highly recommended.

Sleek design and user interface; but it doesn't work reliably
I did a very significant amount of research before purchasing this GPS system, and felt very comfortable at the time that the nuvi 760 was the best choice given my needs. I wanted a wide GPS display in a thin device that could be stored easily, had Bluetooth functionality, and had accurate and fast directions. The 760 was supposed to have all of that. However, we've been incredibly dissapointed with this device and could not recommend it to others.
The key problems are, in order of signficance:
1. The nuvi 760 fails to acquire satellite signal. My device would consistently go 5-10 minutes trying to look acquire a lock from the GPS satellites outdoors outside the car in plain view of completely clear skies. Given that most errands usually take 10-20 minutes of driving time, a 10 minute delay before the GPS starts working renders the device completely useless.
2. The device sometimes has trouble correctly assesing the location of the vehicle. My device would show us driving on the grass, off a road or even on the water while we were driving on a highway. It also seems to get "confused" easily and it recalculates routes constantly, albeit all of them being wrong.
3. The Bluetooth feature is very poor. The voice quality is bad and you have to yell for others to be able to hear you. It's no better than simply using the speaker feature of your cell phone, and significantly inferior to a $30 bluetooth earpiece you can pick up at Radio Shack.
It's unfortunate because the device, in theory, has all of the features I was looking for.

Generally pleased
I purchased this product for my husband for his birthday. He seems to be very pleased with the Garmin nuvi 760. He quickly realized though that the maps are not current. There is a road that we travel quite frequently that does not show up on the system and this road has been in existence for at least 3 to 4 years. It is a bypass route around our town and is heavily travelled so one would expect it to show up on the map. When we drive that road, the Garmin shows us driving through a field. :)

Almost completely satisfied
After getting 2 defective 660's in 2 weeks (which Amazon replaced, then refunded), I upgraded my order to the 760, and I'm pretty thrilled with the unit so far. It came with the latest maps and software (unlike the 660's), worked right out of the box, and has been very accurate. Speaker has been fine-although the pronunciation of street names is often peculiar. (Come on, Pine St. isn't hard!) My only gripes are that the POI's are limited, and you can't sort easily by preferences. AND that the bluetooth is not compatible with my LG phone- I'm hoping Garmin will keep adding compatible phones at a reasonable rate, or this function is useless as there aren't very many on their list. Otherwise, I love the integrated antenna-good unit!

Lives up to it's reputation
When I bought this as my first GPS there was no question as to which brand I would buy. Just about everyone I know has a Garmin nuvi and they all love theirs. The question became which model would I want. After comparing the many different features I decided the 760 had everything I wanted on it. I definitely wanted it to be bluetooth compatible cause I spend an awful lot of time on my cell phone while I'm on the road and when I saw that it could be run thru my car stereo that was a big plus. The bluetooth worked great from my end. I could hear the callers perfectly. Unfortunately, since I drive a MINI cabrio the callers had a difficult time hearing me. My voice apparently became muffled between the wind and traffic noises. But I have no complaints about the rest of features. The many I have used have come in very handy and been mostly accurate. My only other complaint was, that on a recent trip to New Orleans the GPS apparently did not know which roads were one way in which direction. On several occasions it told me to turn the wrong way down a one way street. I don't know if this is because New Orleans has changed the directions of their roads since the maps were installed or if the information was just incorrect to begin with. Maybe I need an updated map, although since then I have been told that GPS' simply do not work in New Orleans for just that reason, no matter which brand nor what year the maps are. Other than that I love it! I feel so much safer having my Garmin on board. It is incredibly easy to use, read and listen to. I could arrive just about anywhere without ever having to look at a map or street sign as long as I can enter the address.
This is the best GPS system I have ever owned. I love the fact that you can change the settings to automatically reroute you if you miss a turn or something. My old GPS would just get mad and tell me to turn around whereas this one just recalculates a new route everytime I make a mistake. I beleive for the money this is the best unit around. The only downfall is that if you want audio you have to keep your FM dial on the GPS station and you miss whatever you may want to listen to. There is also kinda static on. I just don't use the audio and everything is perfect. A++++

Great so long as you don't run into any detours or traffic.
Overall this is a great unit. It is very easy to use, has good map quality and gets you where you need to be. If I had to buy a GPS unit for my Mother, this would be it!
That being said, this and all other Nuvi GPS units I've used have a major flaw. The re-routing and detour features on the Nuvi are an absolute joke. On a recent trip, from Ohio to Michigan, I encountered a highway which was suddenly closed. Well, no problem I thought, I'll just hit the "detour" button and route around. What I didn't know at the time was how the detour function on the Nuvi works.
Detour essentially will avoid the road you are currently on. So, if you are on an access road about to get onto a closed highway, the unit will still try to guide you right back onto the blocked highway. If you are already on the highway in question hitting detour will try to avoid the entire length of the road segment which can be up to 50-100 miles!
An alternative to using the detour button is to simply ignore the instruction the GPS gives you and then take another route, after which the GPS will attempt to do anything to get you back on your original route. This is rarely a major issue, but when it comes up it can cost you dearly.
On a recent trip to Germany (I have Europe maps loaded on a SD card), I was routing to an address. The autobahn(highway) exit I was supposed to take was closed. Beyond that, the next exit was completely blocked by an accident and traffic. At this point, no combination of pressing detour or simply letting the GPS re-route was able to get me on track. The Nuvi went into a logic loop of trying to re-route me right back into traffic or back to the closed highway ramp. It simply would not take me off the highway onto country roads to get around the problem. I ended up circling for 45 minutes with Nuvi constantly steering me wrong.
Other GPS vendors solve this kind of problem with more sophisticated avoid and detour options. TomTom units allow you to select to detour (avoid current road) for a specific distance. So if there is an accident ahead, you can say "detour 3 miles" and the unit will figure out the best route assuming the next 3 miles of the highway are blocked. In addition, you can choose to avoid particular highways or exits altogether with just a few keystrokes, something Nuvi Can't do.
Alternative Routes: I'm planning a trip from Cleveland Ohio to Decatur, IL. My Nuvi thinks the best route is to go via Columbus and Indianapolis. However, I'd rather go via i90 and take the northern route along the great lakes and cut south near Chicago. Well, on the Nuvi it is damned near impossible to make this happen. Even if I just started driving that way, Nuvi will keep trying to force me to head south too soon. The tomtom I've used allows me to select "Alternative Route" from the beginning and the northerly route is chosen after a single button press.
Update: It is possible to force the nuvi to use a particular route, but you have to be very clever about it. Enter your destination, then hit "Go". Next, scroll out on the map and scroll to the highway you want to take. Click that point on the map and then select "Go" you will then be asked if you want to add this point as a via. Your route will then re-calculate to go via that point. Be careful however, you must select a point near the end of the highway section you want to take, otherwise Nuvi will still try to route you off your desired path.

Loaded with features...
I purchased the Garmin nüvi 760, my first GPS unit, and was very surprised to see features I did not even know where there! The display is easy to read, the unit is easy to operate, and it has been a major time saver on road trips. The "look up" capabilities are wonderful for addresses, intersections, points of interest, etc...
Now, the things that did not make me happy. What upset me by far the most is after the unit arrived I attached it to my PC, registered the unit and was informed I needed an update. After updating the firmware I was informed I should update the map... for $69....what???? I just took it out of the box and it is outdated??? Not happy about that at all.
The FM transmitter will fade out during travel depending on signals in the area, small towns the maps are outdated and road changes that may be several years old are not reflected which has caused some unnecessary turns and route changes. The MP3 player portion has enough memory to hold every song I have, however the playback quality if not even close to the CD or radio.
Overall, I am happy with the unit, but I will not pay the outrageous price to update the map any time soon, and that still upsets me.

Wonderful to have
Well after debating for months between the 660 which is now D/C and the 760 I finally purchased the 760 after hurricaine Ike (it would have been really helpful at that time) my husband was skeptical but we love this thing. It is 100% right on with directions and we have no problem aquiring a quick signal. I like the way a little car shows where you are and the voice is very helpful and clear. My husband is using the bluetooth feature and apparently that turns off the voice commands we will have to figure that one out. Have not even read the manuel it is so easy to work. I would highly recommend right now we transfer between 2 cars with the little dash mat. I may just buy another one if the price goes lower.
Great device easy to use right out of the box, I traveled to Pittsburg Pa. recently and it navigated me all through the city and I did not get lost even once and I am not familiar with Pittsburg at all. I highly recommend the Garmin 760 or the 660

I have used this on 2 trips so far...and both times it had problems. Perhaps I need to get the latest maps. On one trip...it took me down a deadend street...thinking it was a thru street. The second time...the directions weren't very clear...as I was to merge instead of turn left.
Other than that...the unit has performed well...I would recommend this to any one considering a GPS unit.

Nuvi 760 and 660 - some thoughts
I got the Nuvi 760 from a TD Ameritrade promotion. Originally the promotion was for the 660 but they ran out and sent me the 760 instead. My brother got the 660 on the same promotion and I've played around with both units. The 660 comes with a case and an a/c adapter whereas the 760 does not. The 660 has the flip up antenna where the 760 doesn't. On the 660 you can quick press the power switch and it'll have a little menu where you can change the volume and brightness, which is nice. I think on the 760 you have to go through some of the menus. The 760 does have a "trip log" where when it's enabled, will show you where you have gone (your route). I don't think the 660 has that.
The most annoying thing with 760 though is even when I'm not moving, it sometimes "jitters". My car would show suddenly then it's turning or jump a little. The speed would also go from 0 to 4 mph (again, I'm not moving). And if you have that "trip log" display on after a while you can see all these scribble lines around your stationary location. I called Garmin and they said this was more or less "normal" behavior on the 760. The technical support guy I spoke to said the 760 doesn't have WAAS so it's a little less accurate than the 660 (if that's enabled on a 660), but they thought that that sort of accuracy wasn't really needed in this type of product (plus it takes a bit more power). I tried all the resets and stuff and have updated to the latest firmware but it still does the "jitter" stuff at times. On the 660, if I wasn't moving, it wasn't moving and the speed was always at 0 mph (as it should be). (I even had them both in the car at the same time).
We used the 760 on a recent trip to Sea World in San Diego and as we were going south on the 5 and at times it thought we were on the side street and kept trying to recalculate how to get to Sea World. It was so annoying I had to turn off the sound. I did the big reset after that, and I haven't used it on any trip since then, so I don't know if the reset really helped (I was holding the unit in the backseat while someone else was driving).
One other thing, on the 660 and other Garmin units I've seen you can bring up a display of the satellites. I couldn't find how to do this on the 760 but it seems that's probably been removed (how useful is a satellite map anyway?).

We love this GPS, except....
I bought this GPS system for my husband for Father's Day from Costco ($[...]). The GPS system is awesome no complaints about it, we have used it to find places in our small area and take it with us on vacation to other states.
The only disapointment I have is the clarity of the phone/speaker while using the bluetooth. Which happens to be the why reason I bougth this model.
If the clarity was better I would have given this GPS system 5 stars without an after thought.

Some kinks, but still fun to use
I've almost become dependent on my Nuvi. I use it for everything - especially to find restaurants, ATMs, etc. in unfamiliar areas. It's so much fun! I even switched the voiceover to a male British voice (there are several English speaking voices to choose from as well as other languages). I just took a trip to Indianapolis and it worked wonderfully. The only problem was that it took too long to 'acquire satellites' a few times. Once, I had to stop the process b/c it took too long. I wasn't near tall buildings, either, but in the suburbs. My friend used her Magellan to get us to our destination with no problem.
Having the system use street names to tell you where to turn is a useful feature. I also like the multi-destination feature which really helps me in my real estate business while showing houses to clients. The graphics are great and you can pick the level of detail (more detail will list all your favorite locations and home) along with more street detail.
My favorite feature is that you have the option of using the QWERTY keyboard - so much easier than the default straight alphabet system.
Customer service is also great. I got my free 2009 map downloads after a little bit of computer trouble (my computer's fault) - but they instructed me on how to bypass the computer trouble.
All in all a good choice. I also bought the portable friction mount as I did not want to use the suction cup system that comes with the product (too obvious to thieves). The fricion mount is an EXCELLENT alternative! I highly recommend it, along with an Invisibleshield (a screen protector).
Also, I went online and downloaded the user manual, which is MUCH better than the mini-manual Garmin sends you.
Love the portability. It is very up to date and we don't know how we survived without it!
I recently purchased the nuvi 760 and overall am pleased with it. I had been using a Street Pilot III so the 760 is a step up. I also have a GPS in my Honda and the Garmin product is much better than the system which Honda uses. Like most products, the 760 is not perfect. I do enjoy the large screen and blue tooth capability. The 760 is easy to remove from its cradle and easy to carry. The features which are lacking or need improving include the lack of a scale as you zoom in and out of the map, the lack of a clock on the map page, and the fact that you have to constantly hit "back" to go from a sub-menu to the main menu page and back to the map. You also have to go back to the main menu if you want to use the blue tooth phone mode although you can dial from your phone.
The routing feature works well and the 3 dimensional view is better than the traditional 2 dimensional view of the Street Pilot. I recommend this product to anyone looking for a GPS.

Don't believe all reviews
This is a great piece of equipment. We have used the Garmin 760 several times and have fount that it is quite acurate. Some of the reviews read indicated that the FM reciever was not of good quality. We found that if you are willing to take a few minutes to ensure the you locate the appropriate station the reciever works just fine. We have used the Garmin in the car and on foot and was directed to the correct point of interest. The time lines given are acurate as well. We have been very satisfied with the Garmin and would recommend to others.
I have had this fornabout 5 weeks, and I love it. It is very good at updating where you are and recalculates instantly if you make a wrong turn. I have tried 2 other brands and sent them back because they had poor navagation or was very hard to work. Amazon is a great company to deal with will use them in the furture.

Garmin 660 is similar to garmin 760
Garmin 660 has almost the same features as Garmin 760, except it does not have the multipoint feature and the msn feature. Garmin 660 is under $300. I have a 760 but I think the msn feature is not essential.
found other sellers selling the same model for lower price with free shipping. waiting for amazon.com to lower the price of this model to match other seller's price.

Really a good product
I have only had a couple problems with this product. It wants to send me through town when there is a bypass available, and I have been unable to get it registered. Otherwise I've been very happy with this garmin.

Excellent Product... excellent price!!
My cousin from Seattle introduced me to the Garvin nuvi760 on his recent stay with us. He had purchased it within the past year for $700 and felt, at the time it was a good price. I liked the features but wasn't willing to pay that much. You can imagine my delight to find the Amazon price to be so attractive! Now I've just returned from a week on the road using it and it is marvelous. Always feel in touch with where you are and the sights close by. It is extremely user friendly with easy access to accommodation info and easy phone calling access with the bluetooth feature which we totally found to be useful and so very convenient. Highly recommend this item!

Easy, accurate, pleasant
We've been using this GPS for 2 months. It is very easy to operate, it has not steered me wrong yet, except for some misunderstandings when I thought it wanted me to exit the freeway when it indicated a turn was coming, when actually it was alerting me to stay ON the freeway because a merge was coming. Now that I am used to it, I enjoy it very much. It gives enough warning before turns and it is very helpful to hear the street name again. It is easy to program my favorites and pick multiple destinations. We like "Karen"'s voice the best. It is small enough to carry around in my purse, rather than leave it in the car, so I can program it inside.
Garmin760 GPS - performed as expexted. Easy to set up and easy to use. No actual owners manual, need to download. Map update took hours to download, even at cable speeds. Picked up satellite signal within seconds. Excellent detail on maps. Easy enough for technologically challenged wife to use. Good suction holder, easy to place on windshield. Easy to read in bright sunlight. Highly recommend.
I love my new Garmin 760; it is fast, accurate, and has great graphics. The search feature is spot on & has plenty of categories to narrow down your choices. I first bought a Navigon, then sent it back- it was insanely slow. The only two downsides to this are:
1- It doesn't take verbal commands...all of these things will be able to do that in the next couple years, I just couldnt wait, nor pay $999 for the next model up.
2- If youre used to NeverLost from Hertz, this thing is going to annoy you since it doesn't 'ding' or 'chime' when youre suppose to take an action.
I am someone who could get lost in his back yard, so the garmin 760 is a miracle of technology for me. It gets me where I'm going and allows me to talk on my cell phone hands free. Occassionally it will tell me that the location is on the wrong side of the street but I'm right there and can figure it out for myself. I love it and can't believe I lived without it.
