Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550, and C580)

I can't say enough about this item but it's awesome. I have 2 cars that I move my GPS back and forth from and it's so easy to just take from car to car. You could also just buy 2 but I'm too cheap. In addition this thing makes your car less of a target than sticking one of those suction cups in your window that says "I have a GPS in my car for you to steal."

Just got this today and it is in manufacturer's condition, new unopened.

The item looks good and its got 1 maybe 2 key feature.

Its got a really good rotation and lock feature that allows you to fix a position for the ball and prong and lock it. So rotate it how you like and switch the lever to lock. The locking mechanism looks strong and secure.

The other feature is the removal of ball and prong so that you can put the device to another holder. I'm not sure what other accessory you can put this in.

This item is pretty heavy. Some reviews says this item may move but all I can see is if you are either a rectless driver or you may have placed the device somewhere it shouldn't to make it move.

The friction base is sturdy. All I am afraid of is it wearing out and become a smooth surface after repeated rubbing against it. (Dirt may also be in the factor) Do not put this on any fabric material cause it will move. The base is made of a thin, plasticky foam that sticks to surface. It may melt if under the sun for too long. Because it is a thin and soft plastic, I am also afraid that it will rip the bottom over useage.

So far, I am satisfied for the $26 price tag. Anymore and it will be not worth it.

The GPS stays in place where ever you put it because the mount has some weight to it.Being reasonably big is the downside to it.

This is great. I previously used the suction cup mount provided with the Garmin unit. This worked ok but would fall off the windshield at the most unopportune time and created a real problem. I ordered the dashboard mount and problem solved. It certainly will not move from where you place it on the dash. The material on the bottom of the unit grips the dash surface like glue. Does a great job, perfect for quickly switching between vehicles or removing to keep out of sight. Tacky surface on the bottom keeps it in place.

Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550, and C580) After reading reviews of possible theft of a GPS when using a windshield mount, I decided to get a Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for the nuvi 255W that was just purchased.
Found the dashboard mount to exceed my expectations with stability, ease of adjustment and vision. Totally satisfied.

This is an absolute necessity especially if you are using your Garmin in more than one vehicle. I wish they would include this instead of the suction cup mount.

It does what it is intended to do, the GPS stays on the dash with no slipping and fit my Nuvi 750 perfectly. This product is useful for states that do not allow you to attach a GPS to your windshield (like California-even though a lot of people still do). It also resolves any issues you may have with the windshield mount (some people have had problems, I haven't encountered any). With this mount you can easily move your GPS from car to car since all you need to do is take the mount with you. For storage it fits in your glove box or center consol. The mounting stem separates from the mounting yoke and you can store that piece in your case (as long as your case is large enough) Remember to move the slider to lock position when you place the stem back into the yoke. Amazon offered the best price. Most brick and motor stores were almost twice the price.

I just love it. I used one when I rented a car and had to have one. I did not want to mount my navigator to my windshield, so this is perfect and portable -- and it fits in my glove box!

This really works great. Put it where you want it on the dash and it stays - no sliding around.

Mount sits easily on an uneven surface. There is not room on the top level of the dash on a Toyota Avalon for the mount and GPS antenna to flip up; but on the next level down, even though not very deep, this mount sits firmly. The only issues (almost non-issues): yhere is not much space between the release button of the GPS and the base. Also, the wire from the GPS is a little tight against the base. I turn the GPS so that both wire and release are in the recess between the four feet of the base. No regrets on the purchase - far superior to the suction cup.

This works excellent. I have a new car and didn't want to attach the Garmin to the dash or to the window. This works great for easily removing the Garmin from the dash and storing it in the glove compartment. Would suggest this for everyone.

Love it. It holds my Nuvi in place and it doesn't budge. Very easy to move from my car to my wifes.

I got this item and it stayed in place on the dashboard. No problems at all. I have eye level viewing of my gps whenever I need to glance at it. No more suction cups rings on the window. I love it!!!

I have had the mount for about a month now and it is great so far. It is nice not to have something hanging on your windshield. It sits down low and puts my gps within closer reach. And my biggest concern was weather it would stay in place, but this mount hasn't moved since I got it. I would absolutely recommend it.

Really nice thing and stays on the dashboard very well. I haven't taken reallly hard turns though, but the experience so far seems that the traction is sufficient.

I purchased this dashboard mount for my wife's 2008 Dodge minivan and the NUVi 660 I bought her for Mother's Day. It sits nicely on the dash and does not move or slide around. It is easy to adjust. The only "criticism" might be where the connection is when you use the car adaptor - it is a rather tight fit IF you have everything connected already. Not really an issue, though. If you have a NUVI and you have a nice flat surface on your dashboard, I highly recommend you get this mount.

I use this with my nuvi 750 in a full size pickup truck and even on very twisty bumpy dirt roads the friction mount just doesn't move, period. It's so much easier to use and more convenient than the windshield mount I see no reason to ever use anything else.

I was not wanting to purchase a GPS unit if it meant having to only mount in using a window mount. My dashboard mount works GREAT and stays put no matter the road conditions.

This is a great product! The windshield mount that came with my Garmin Nuvi 660 would continuously fall off of the windshield on warm weather days. I no longer have to worry about that. The friction mount never moves on my dash and is very easy to stow when I leave the vehicle.

Works great. A little heavy and a little over-priced, but does what it's supposed to do. Very satisfied.

I prefer this device over suction cups, it sits nicely on the dash and it hasn't budged when I took a sharp right turn.
I heard that thieves look for the little circles a suction cup can leave on your windshield - then they know you have a GPS or radar detector or some goody - making it worth their investment to break into your car.
Probably an urban legend. But in the meantime....

This friction mount work great. You will never think of using the sucktion cups again.

This is the best way to place your GPS on the dash of your car. No suction cup marks on the window and the Garmin Portable Friction Mount is easily removed out of sight when your parked in as public place where items are sometimes stolen from cars. It's a great item to have.

I own one for the last six months on my Jeep Wrangler. I also owned the windshield suction. For ease of attaching the GPS (Garmin) this is the better product. You can also easily store or remove it.

The only minor downside is that it will slide off your dashboard if you make a sharp left turn.

I bought this with a Garmin 260W unit (which I also review) before my wife and I went to southern Utah for 2 weeks. Believe me, this thing works! We went up and down 10% grades, negotiated dozens of 180 degree turns and switchbacks going up or down rock cliffs, did 80 mph on I-70 and traveled bumpy, uneven dirt/rock roads in some of the state and national parks. And this mount didn't even budge. I can't think of any other situation we will be in to put this device "to the test", so I think it is safe to say this is one fine mount that will not disappoint you. And being portable makes it even nicer. You can move it side to side on the dash and tilt it up or down for better visualization of the unit. And it's easy to bring the whole thing in when you're through driving. No ugly windshield marks, either. Definitely worth it!

I would recommend this to anyone buying a GPS for the car. It does not slide, stays right where you put it, and doesn't leave suction cup marks on your windshield (which would tell people you have one inside and often leads to break ins) I wish I invented it! This would be a great gift for someone that already has a GPS too.

Here in California, we can't legally attach a GPS unit to the windshield of our cars, so we need something stable on which to mount the GPS on the dashboard. This unit is masterful -- it simply does not move once you place it. Yet it's completely versatile -- you can move the GPS into any position easily and detach it from the dashboard mount. I highly recommend this clever dashboard mount.

I first used a Garmin GPS and portable friction dashtop mount on a business trip. It was such a great convenience that upon my return home I bought a Nuvi 350 and the dashtop mount. The mount sticks well to just about any surface, making it easy to rely on your GPS for guidance. It's also convenient.You can store it and your Nuvi under the seat or in the trunk upon arriving to your destination, a great theft deterrent. However, the dash on my car is rather limited in space. The windshield is raked back and there is very little clearance. If I take off too abruptly, my Nuvi falls off. This is due to my car's interior more than the dash mount. It works really well if you have the space. A really great product!

this item is must for anyone with a NUVI. The thieves don't know it like they know a mark on the windshield

The dashboard mount is great and works like a dream. It is smaller than the ones I saw in stores. Being more compact, it serves the same purpose without the bulk. It is very efficient.

Very much like this product. Sits perfectly on my dashboard and doesn't slip or slide at all. Pretty easy to install and there ya go!

Not a big expensive purchase and everything was as stated in description. I am new, at using Amazon.com - 80 years old - and not used to computers. This was easy for me and what I need in the future Amazon.com will be checked first.

Pros: It holds your Garmin on your dashboard just where you want it to be.
Cons: You need to find someplace to store it out of sight when not in use.

So far so good the GPS stays put even taking 45 mph curves at 70 mph

This weighted mount works perfectly, especially if you use your gps in different vehicles, rentals,etc. like I do. It folds up nicely for your gps bag, and attaches to a variety of garmin units including the nuvi760. We use a couple of these in our cars and they work great, at least for most dashboards. Definitely recommend one!

I was looking for a portable dashboard mount for my garmin GPS unit since I did not want to put the GPS on the windshield. I shopped around and found this dashboard unit made by Garmin. It was fantastic. The GPS Monitor snaps in the cross piece, you plug it in the AC Adapter and you are ready to go! I have used it on all the cars I have without any problems. The dashboard unit is steady and easily visible. I recommend this dashboard unit to any garmin user that it would fit. In my opinion, it is better than the windshield mount. Also Amazon by far has the best price with free shipping!

I had read a number of buyer feedbacks before deciding to buy this item. All the feedbacks I read were positive, and I will have to concur and give it 5 Stars myself. This is a great dashboard mount, as it sticks to the dashboard very well... and it should, as it is as heavy as a medium sized stone...

All kidding aside, this is a fine mount for your Garmin GPS unit. It will mount on the dash, or on most center consoles -- I have a Ford Expedition, and it sits very sturdy on the center console.

I highly recommend buying this mount, as it will definitely serve its purpose.

The beanbag does exactly what it's advertised to do. It holds my Garmin 260W right in place without sliding back/forth when starting/stopping or side-to-side when turning. I highly recommend this item.

Holds my C580 on my dash without moving. Makes for greater portability. A good alternative to the windshield mount which can fall off, especially with the C5XX series which are bulkier.

This is an excellent product. Works great. Does not slide even on the sharpest turns. Makes using the GPS a snap since you can simply throw the mount on the dashboard. When i leave my car, I just put the mount on the floor..very convenient not having to put on and take off the suction from the windshield.

I was using the Garmin supplied glass suction-cup mount but grew weary of having to peel it off (and deal with the resulting dirty ring) every time I moved my Nuvi. This mount makes it easy to move the entire GPS unit out of the sun and prying eyes. It's a real plus if you move your GPS between vehicles. It's stable, and doesn't slide around, even with spirited driving. It's heavy enough to hold my Nuvi while I poke at the screen, all with minimal movement.

Note- In some states (California for sure), the use of any mount that attaches directly to the glass is prohibited, making the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount a necessity.

We drove 3500 miles and this never moved. It is easy to take off and put in the trunk when parked or move to a different car. I would never go back to the sticky dashboard mount.

This is a wonderful product. Easy to attach. Stays securely on front dash. No marks left on windows for nosy thieves!!! Although it was a trifle cheaper elsewhere, I felt more secure with Amazon!

This a great product for use with Nuvi. GPS unit REALLY does stay put even on a sloping dashboard. Makes GPS unit more secure. Just put it on the floor when you park. No visible unit for thieves and no suction cup or marks. I was even able to modify (not easy) the unit for use with older C340

This stand is perfect for mounting the Garmin on your dashboard. Once you put it in place, it stays there. I have taken very sharp turns at 40 mph and this thing stays put. Highly recommended, especially if you buy it at Amazon; You can't beat the price! 5*

When I realized that my window mount was difficult to use and left marks on the window, I looked for an alternative. Garmin provides a plastic disk that can be stuck to the dashboard, but I am opposed to messing up my car by attaching any device permanently to any part of my car.

When I first saw the friction mount, I didn't think it would work all that well, but I was wrong, it is excellent. It has never slipped, even under the most vigorous driving conditions. This thing is great, I highly recommend it to anyone who is reluctant to mess up their dash, or window by using things that mar the surface.
