[+] 10.0 It works!
I bought a knock off one. It didn't work. This one works perfect and reasonable price.

[+] 4.0 I ordered this item, but I have got the other product.
Accually, I ordered it, but they sent the other one.
However, I have just used it, because it is difficult to resend and it takes many days.

[+] 10.0 GREAT price for an original Garmin product
After our son destroyed the original Garmin automobile power adapter I bought an off brand that lasted until I turned it in the socket and that was that. Two things I have learned. NEVER rotate the plug in the lighter socket and always buy from Amazon. (You'll pay 3x what Amazon charges if you buy this from Garmin.)

[+] 2.0 in correct item delivered
How can I rate this item when i didnt recieve this item?

Why bother? Reason being, is wheni 1st received the cable, i imediately wrote to Amazon as well as the dealer, and I never received a respone back. it is highly unlikely that i will purchase another item from Amazon. If i can not get a simple cable as avertised correct, how would i have any confidence that i will receive a more costly item correct and be stuck for a larger bill and remain unsatisfied?

[+] 10.0 Plug and play
Mounted this plug on the motorcycle where the red led light is visible, plugged it into the usb connection of the GPS and it has worked perfectly. Very pleased.

[+] 10.0 Exactly what you'd expect.
This is a simple device that does exactly what you'd expect. The manufacturing quality is good, and it works perfectly. The Amazon packaging is much more customer friendly.

Worked as well as the original charger, which I lost. And the packaging was easy to open.

[+] 10.0 great purchase so far
We have only used the GPS and adapter a few times, but are anticipating a lengthy trip to Florida soon. I am sure this will help a great deal.

[+] 8.0 Works Perfectly for Nuvi 7xx
I've never posted a review on an item here but I felt compelled to do so given how long I searched for a product like this. I own a Garmin Nuvi 780 which requires the use of a cradle in order to power the unit in a car. However I wanted to a do a custom install on my car in which I didn't have to use the cradle, suction mount or any combination of the two. This only left one choice which was to power the unit via USB port but as you know the USB cable provided with the GPS will put the car into PC or Storage Mode rendering the GPS useless. Yes there are workarounds, ie power up the unit without cable plugged in, then plug in the USB cable after "Loading Maps" appears. But that was too much of a hassle and considering this is a custom install, seemed somewhat pointless. The goal was to have a clean install with the "set it and forget it" approach.

I researched online for days and found out the reason most USB cables won't work is due to something about pin 4 being grounded or not. All I know is that there were only 2 cables that seemed to have worked, 1) the HTC charger and 2) this cable. Since I had Amazon Prime, I decided I'd buy this cable first since it'd arrive faster. Plus since it was OEM, thought I'd have a better shot as opposed to the HTC cable. End result, the cable works beautifully and charges my unit as it should. Since it's USB however, it might charge slower compared to your conventional 12v adapter but that's not a big concern for me. I never purchased the HTC charger but I presume that would work as well.

As someone else mentioned here, I don't understand why some people gave this item a negative review. If you're frustrated that you bought this item when it was already included, blame poor description of contents in the GPS product page. But this cable itself works and functions great. Plus how hard is it to look at a close-up pic of the charger and note the plug end (USB) is different than the standard charger? And if you want to get really technical, in some instances Amazon was correct in stating this was NOT included in your GPS since most came with the cradle adapter/charger. But for people like me who wanted to actually charge the unit via USB this was not included.

FYI... the ONLY times you might encounter an issue is if your GPS has the Traffic feature included (where the antenna is part of the original charger). Not sure how this cable would work with such a unit, ie the 765T but again, it worked great for my 780. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is b/c I'm not a fan of the "accordion" style wire.

[+] 10.0 Better than the original
I bought this to replace my original cable because it kept coming out of my cigarette lighter socket. Now this stays in the socket.

[+] 6.0 end cap unscrewed and parts lost
I bought the Garmin Nuvi for my wife a few months ago. She loves it. As far as I know, she liked the power cable, too. Until today, when the cap unscrewed in the car and all the parts shot out and were lost. So now I'm buying her a new power cable. My rating is based less on it's abiltiy to do the job -- but rather that it no longer does the job. I'm sure this next one will last longer since she'll be aware of the possible problem.

[+] 8.0 misleading offer on amazon
When I tried to buy the Garmin GPS device, Amazon showed that apparently other people who bought it also bought a car power cord for it, and suggested to buy with it. So I bought it only to find that the kit contained the car power cord, and now I had two. When I wanted to return it, Amazon wanted to charge me the postage as it was "my mistake" to buy it. When I e-mailed about the misleading "offer", there was no response.

[+] 8.0 works fine, be careful of insert end unscrewing
We purchaed a Garmin last year and it really has reduced road anxiety and travel "discussions" between my wife and I when driving the nether-regions. The adaptor for the car plug works fine however the connector tip has a screw on retainer cap that over time and just with the use of the device, can unscrew. This happened and the little metal spring supported piston went south in the process and could not be located. Result, I had to buy it again. So when purchasing it you may want to snug this plastic srew-in cap with glue or tape, just to be sure

I purchased this cord because I got tired of taking the other one from my work truck to my personal vehicle. The one I received is a OEM cord, this one does not look like the one I received.

[+] 4.0 auto charger not the one pictured
The plug-in Nuvi automobile charger/power unit I obtained certainly performs electronically as intended. It does not, however match the unit pictured here by Amazon. Instead, the plug-in end is about 5-inches long and straight, much like a cigar. In that configuration (rather than the stubbler one shown), the unit and its wire project further into the cabin than would otherwise be the case, and that cramps the space around my shift lever. Since I drive a standard transmission car (1999 BMW Z-3 Coupe), that presents more of an issue (and more frequently) than it would in a car with an automatic transmission.

[+] 2.0 Unhappy with Amazon suggesting you buy something which is not needed and then charging for return
I did not open the product because it was not needed. It was suggested by amazon and so I ordered it. Returning what was not needed cost me the return postage. Amazon then provides no way to complain so I am with this review creating my own way to complain.

[+] 10.0 Improved Power Cable
So far this unit looks and works great. Our original Power Cable came apart at the auto plug side and the plunger was lost. It appears that mechanical improvements have been made on this unit. The plunger/connector looks more robust and should resolve the problem we experienced. I paid for shipping and received the unit in a reasonable length of time. The process was a much better experience than a recent purchase of a Garmin Approach5. It took 14 days to receive. Five days to ship an "In Stock" item and 8 days to receive via USPS. Guess I should have paid the $6 to have it shipped instead of asking for free shipping. Live and learn

[+] 2.0 Unnecessary product but recommended by Amazom
The car charger actually come with the box. as I never buy Garmin before and it is recommended by Amazon so I bought it. I found that the one come with the box is more useful as it is connect to the unit that come with Garmin too. This charger has to connect to Garmin's USB port itself and you have to plug/remove it everytime if you want to take your Garmin out of the car.

[+] 8.0 Had to replace my orginal cable
This one is better than the original power cable that came with my Garmin nuvi - 360.
One of the parts of original power cable was lost during the road trip. So I had to order new one. This one looks better and works well. It was little pricey though.

[+] 2.0 Don't buy it
I bought this cable because it was recommended by Amazon in a package to supplement the Garmin GPS. It isn't necessary, as there is already one that comes with the GPS. Now they want to charge me to return it because they say it was my fault for buying it. Ripoff?

Original broke and although this product is bulkier, it works and that's the important thing.
Reviewer [A3RIJHA8CS3E0E] | Date [September 8, 2009]
[+] 2.0 Unnecessary Item
This item is promoted with the Garmin nuvi 780, and is an unnecessary add-on.
The nuvi 780 comes with its own vehicle power cord that attaches to the window mounting bracket, so the extra power cord gets a free ride in the glove box, and the seller gets a free ride for $19.87 of up-selling.
If, and only if, one uses the gravity dependent dashboard bean-bag mount, would this item be useful.

[+] 8.0 Garmin Vehicle Power Cable
Garmin Vehicle Power Cable for nüvi Portable GPS Navigators (010-10723-06)This power cable is quite a bit better than the one that was supplied with the unit in the box. The power adapter that came with the nuvi seemed to be cheaply made. For example, it had plastic tabs to grab the inside of the power supply socket. THIS power cable actually has metal tabs that does the job much better. Also, the LED light on the new cable is more subdued whereas the LED on the supplied cable was much brighter, so much so, that at times, I actually turned the adapter down so that the light wouldn't be so noticable. The only complaint that I would have is the cable is somewhat stiff. The cable on the supplied unit was more pliable and manageable. (It could be that the cable on the new adapter is actually made with a heavier wire, therefore, as a result, stiffer.) However, it is one that I would buy again. Certainly an improvement over the supplied cable.

[+] 4.0 Falls apart too easily
This unit works well enough and allows you to use power from your car rather than rely on AA batteries in the GPS. But, the end of the plug with the tip can and does unscrew itself unexpectedly. The next time you go to use the GPS, the power adapter does not work because part of it is missing. So far, this seems to happen to my wife when she is out of town alone. Eventually she has found the missing pieces in the car, but the day is coming when the missing pieces will be in the rental car she turned in at the airport an hour before. It needs a different style of threads or some adhesive to keep it from unscrewing so easily.

Update: I wanted to do something to keep the nut from unthreading itself. Then I noticed the plastic nut was breaking up so that the threaded portion was separating from the rest of the nut. I finished breaking off the threaded portion. I soldered a short piece of copper wire to one end of the fuse and bent it into a hook. I hooked the wire over the spring. I turned the threaded portion of the nut into its place to act as a collar. The fuse end now makes direct contact with the cigarette lighter. Garmin needs to improve the design of this power converter. I had already had to use electrical tape to hold the two halves together.

[+] 10.0 Garmin Power Cable for Nuvi
I needed an extra power cable for my Garmin Nuvi 255W to be ale to operate on my Yamaha Royal Star motorcycle. The length just barely reached the accessory connection under the seat, but fit the bike perfectly. Now I can keep from getting lost on my motorcycle too.

[+] 6.0 Power Cable
I bought this item because the description "What's in the box" did not include an automobile power cable for the Garmin 265WT GPS unit. I checked both the Garmin website and the Amazon description. It turns out this item was not needed as it "was" included with the GPS unit. I didn't return it as it arrived first ahead of the GPS unit itself and I opened the package. (The packaging was destroyed.) I'm sure its okay although not needed. I wasted my money. I blame Garmin and not Amazon.

[+] 6.0 unnecessary
The amazon site is very confusing as it doesn't specify anywhere that this power cord is included in the box for the Garmin. So I ordered it unnecessarily, and then had to pay return postage plus a restocking fee. According to the vendor, this happens all the time! so if you are buying a new Garmin, just realize that you will be receiving one of these in the box!

[+] 2.0 Nuvi vehicle power cable
Unnecessary to buy this separately. One comes with each Nuvi GPS system. The Amazaon site does not adequately explain this.

[+] 4.0 Amazon shipped the wrong product
Amazon sent me the wrong product and the restocking fee and shipping mean I would be better off to try and sell it on craigslist.

These cables are highly overpriced.

It looks like a normal mini-usb connector on the Nuvi, but my mini-usb cell phone charger does not work, so Garmin is using a proprietary mini-usb adapter.
