GE 29875GE2 Digital Messaging System with Voice Time and Day Stamp - Black

I have had this machine for several years. For the most part it works well, but it randomly doesn't record messages. It seems like once a month or so my husband and I have left messages on the machine that aren't there when the other one gets home and checks for messages. These are not short "Call Me" messages but ones that tend to be a minute or so in length.

Other than that the machine has worked well. I am looking to replace the machine because I'm concerned that one of these times a missing message will have been important.

Two different machines were sent to me, in hopes that one would work. Both were duds. Messages cut out after about a minute. volume was up and then down - hard to hear. A definite NO.NO.NO.

Company did work with me, though.

I have only had this product for a few weeks now, but so far I am very pleased. It was one of the least expensive answering machines I priced, and yet it meets my needs very well. It was easy to set up and the sound quality is actually very good--better than expected. It is too early to vouch for durability, but so far I would definitely recommended it to anyone for a home answering machine.

This was a gift for my father, who just wanted a plain and simple answering machine, which, buy the way, is not east to find these days. This machine is plain and simple. It is easy to set up amnd operate. It is digital , so the sound quality is clear.

The price is attractive but I had to put caller ID in this week so I could tell what phone number they were leaving. It records sound but they are not words I understand.

We have this machine and I would never recommend it to anyone. There is NO battery backup. Everytime the electricity so much as flickers, the time and date settings are erased and you have to reset the whole machine. Keep shopping. There's got to be a better choice out there!

I'm very pleased with this machine. It's exactly what I wanted; I received it quickly and the price was right!

This phone answering machine will not record the message so you can understand it, it does not do what it is advertised that it will do. Do NOT purchase this item if you think you are getting something that will answer your phone and record messages, because what you get are garbled really low volume, in and out, with occasionally one word you can understand, but if you think you will be able to get someone's phone number to be able to call them back, do NOT be misled. I would not recommend you to waste your money on this item.

I've had this machine for 10 years and it has been EXCELLENT. The many buttons make it error-free, unlike menu-driven ones I've seen, where messagesGE 29875GE2 Digital Messaging System with Voice Time and Day Stamp - Black are accidentally erased, or they're automatically erased if you don't press a button within a few seconds. With this one, I can keep or erase whatever I want, and I can replay a message error-free. It still works fine and I'm ordering a spare, so if this one quits, I'll have no interruption in my voice-mail recordings. God bless America and GE also,

For few of us that do not want to be tied at the hip by a cell phone, this was the one for me. I checked Radio Shack,Dell,Big Lots etc. They all said it's called "TEXTING" and it comes with a phone .... Cool, But for now this is a brand new machine that does what an answering machine is to do..Answers calls, then I can return them when I feel moved to answer bill collectors. Arrived quickly, Brand new, Sleek design and decreatly small, so friends dont know I still have an answering machine. Very good buy, they will still be around a few more years.

Arrived on time and was what I ordered. I would like to have more features, but this is not the problem of the person that sold it to me.

I have one of these machines and couldn't be more displeased. The messages left vary in volume and usually cut off long before the message is finished even with message length set at 4 minutes. Sound quality is awful and it is unreliable. Do not buy this machine.

Answering machine was a must have after decreasing phone bill. Machine is working properly most of the time, but occasionally it manages to forget how many rings it should have before answering. Is rather annoying to both the caller and when trying to answer it.

I received this machine as a gift and have hated it since I hooked it up. It cuts messages off half way through the call and what remains on the machine is somewhat garbled (if I didn't have caller id I would not know who called). The message delete button is also the on/off button, which is completely inconvenient. I contacted the company for support and ended up totally frustrated. Am planning on replacing the machine with another brand. My advice to you is to buy a different brand!

This machine does in fact have a certain tinniness to recorded messages, which is somewhat hard to understand given the advertised statement that it's a 'digital' machine. I could barely understand one message I received. But I don't really get a lot of messages, so this one-time low cost machine will end up saving me about $100 per year over voice-mail purchased from the phone company.

Easy to set up but that is the only success I had. The caller's first 5 words are nothing but static followed by crystal clear recorded words for about 5 seconds and then their voice fades to nothing. Two machines with identical problems - I'm not trying again. I do not recommend this product.

I had an old 2 tape machine which we have had for probably over 20 years. The new digital system is very nice. the unit is small and very nice looking. The voice quality is great. The operation setup is simple. We will enjoy having the unit for years to come.

This product reminds me of products from yesteryear... Good quality, reasonable price and simple to use.
There is no difficulty understanding the messages - the audio is very clear. The instructions are easy to understand and the functions offered aren't high in number, but all you'll need.

I am returning this product, it cuts off messages, the sound quality is terrible and is is pretty much useless!

I had the answering service offered by the local phone company for 5 years at a cost of $6 per month. Since retiring the number of calls has dropped dramatically and I needed a less expensive solution. This answering machine provides all of the functions I received via the phone company for the equivalent of 3-4 months service. Message recordings are clear, options are plentiful, and it is accessable remotely.
I can't understand why I paid the phone company so much money over the years. This device works fine as advertised.

I agree that it makes your voice sound awful when you record a message (adds alot of bass and lowers pitch) but not only that mine broke within a week. Its stuck on 8 messages and pressing any button failed, unplugging it failed. They only offered me to mail it back to them and pay my own shipping for them to look at it.

Why are all these people upset with the product? I bought it because my (expensive) three handset Panasonic cordless phone system has an answering machine without digital read out, so I never know how many messages came in my absence.
After a lot of hesitation and reviews I bought this product and it works fine!
The sound quality is as good as it gets in any average priced answering machine. I have no problem with the clarity of recorded messages. The date and time stamp is there.
The outgoing message cuts off if a receiver is picked up. The set up is a snap. Yes, the on/off button also acts as eraser. Please, hit it when the message is playing to erase, that's all.
The display is big and I can read it from a distance.
Why not five stars? It just appears trifle flimsy, but for [...], its worth it.
I recommend it.

I was looking for just an inexpensive phone answering machine to replace one that no longer is working. This GE unit fills the bill, it is very simple to operate and does what I want it to do......... answer calls and play back. If your just looking for a basic machine and don't want to pay alot money for one, you should like this unit.

I read a bunch of bad reviews, and still bought this $20 gismo. Mine works great, was easy to set up, and I can understand the messages without any problem. It works with a fax machine on the same line (no problmes ... fax recognizes specific ringtone, and picks up by 2nd ring, answering machine set to 4 rings to pick-up. Plus, I can screen my calls, which I couldn't do with viocemail. I'm a happy camper!

This answering machine has very good sound quality and is easy to use.
The only negatives I found: the maximum message length is 4 minutes.
Also, there isn't a "conversation record" feature. That is, you can't
record a phone call, for future reference.

Remote access is very good.

For the money, this one is hard to beat.

I really like this product. It is very simple to use...better than the one I had before. I like this type because the one I had, had a phone attached and the phone quit working, so now I have them separated so if one breaks down, the other still works.

Purchase was for my father - it was just what he needed and I could not find anything similiar in stores.

This didn't get a good review from me because of poor sound quality. People's voices sound "quivering" and digitalized. If you just want something that's inexpensive and does what it's supposed to do then this is for you, but in this day and age of technology, there are much better ones out there!

This is surely one of the worst buy I have made in recent years. The sound is not great and, above all, it keeps cutting people before they finish their message, sometimes without even recording it! This is not clever if you want to keep your friends around! It is now in the trash can...

The machine records the messages, and was easy to program the message and time, however, what it did record was illegible. I could not understand any of the messages it recorded, even at full volume I had to listen to each message three or four times to understand who had called, their message, and their numbers.

I really like this digital message system. Easy to set up and use. One drawback, The sound quality. Sound sounds tinny when retrieving messages. Can't complain being I payed around $20.

I was very pleased to see how easy this messaging system was to set up and I have not found the "tinniness" mentioned in some other reviews to be the case. It is a great price for a digital messaging system. For me, it replaced one with two tapes that I bought about 15 years ago for the same price ($19.99) that did not have the voice time and date stamp. It does not, however, offer the eight rings described ... but the five it does offer are an improvement over the four offered by my last machine. Also, whenever the phone is answered anywhere in the house, the machine stops taping, so it doesn't fill up your inbox with the sound of your voice. I love it!

The on-line document claims 2-8 rings. I bought for my 91 year old grandmother, as she needs 8 rings. The actual product only allows 2-5 rings or tollsaver.

but when you really need quality, like when the caller is speaking fast, in a foreign accent, telling you an unusual name, or leaving a phone number from a speakerphone from what sounds like the other side of his office - you won't be happy with this, you're taking chances with it.

Other than that, good-enough features, etc etc. One thing, whether it's the microphone or the sampling, myself and my roommate sound the same on our outgoing message. But that's not that big a deal.

this thing is a great buy. It gets the job done, is inexpensive, and pretty easy to set up.

If your old phone had an answering machine built in, and your new one doesnt, and you dont care for the phone companie's "voicemail" service..... this is perfect for you.

I GOT AND HAD THIS MACHINE SENT TO MY DAD IN MARYLAND AS A REPLACEMENT FOR A DIFFERENT MACHINE HE'D HAD FOR YEARS. THIS ONE IS SO MUCH NICER AND DAD LOVES IT....AND HE'S NOT ONE, AT HIS AGE, (83), THAT LIKES CHANGE.

The machine was well priced for what you get. It's easy to setup and has a resonable memory capacity. The message play back sound quality could be better but for the price you can't complain.

The outgoing message that I tried to record sounded terrible, so I have to use the default outgoing message. To delete a message you hit the on/off button -- not very intuitive as sometimes it just shuts the machine off if your timing is not right. I've had it for over a year, it works fine, but I'm looking to replace it for something of better quality that's easier to use.

I have no complaints about the features of this answering machine, setup, etc....but the sound quality is bad. Messages are understandable, but have an annoying tinniness.
