[+] 10.0 A must have for any greatest hits enthusiast
This is a fine compilation of hits from a great band, and truly epitomizes the term "greatest hits". This collection is just that...hits. If you are a fan of Journey, you'll love it. If you've heard one song on this collection, chances are you've heard them all. And if you haven't heard them, one listen and you'll be hooked.

[+] 10.0 Some of the BEST stuff from one of the BEST bands of ANY decade
While critics will debate forever the impact of Journey on the world of music, for us fans, there IS no debate...the band rocks and we love 'em and their music--for the most part--will be timeless. I've been in radio for the better part of 20 years now, and I cannot remember a time when I did not receive regular requests for Journey, both then and now. Why? I suppose every person must ask themselves why Journey *works* for you, but for me? I just love a song with a great hook, and Journey is definitely in no short supply of those.

I have noticed that even some Fans have been critical of why some songs were included why others were omitted...and for the most part, I agree--but we have to temper that with the fact that Journey more than likely had ZERO choice in which songs were included on this particular collection. However, whether or not your personal fav was left out or not, there is little doubt that the songs that ARE included, really are great. Personally my two all-time favorite Journey songs have Steve Perry singing back-up...and of course were NOT included.

If for any reason you want a more thorough Greatest Hits collection from Journey, I recommend purchasing their Time 3 Anthology...it represents the larger scope of Journey from before Steve joined to their all-time greatest hits, some a little less popular tracks as well as even some demo versions...all in all a more complete collection. Course, with that said, if you consider yourself a serious Journey fan, you really ought to buy their individual CD's and get the absolute FULL representation of all their hits as well as the more obscure, and sometimes truly magnificent songs that never saw any exposure on the radio (much to my dismay).

[+] 10.0 It's All Hits
I listened to Journey when I was younger and I admit like other music from my youth I still enjoy them. Perhaps they were a bit poppy and perhaps people consider them too '80s' like some here, but they wrote great catchy songs.

I had not listened to them in quite awhile except for occassionaly cathing them on the radio, but when Tony Soprano heard this song in the infamous (famous?) episode I wanted to find an album that covered what I remembered and this record is it. Of course there is "Don't Stop Believin'" and others.

A couple of the songs are just okay (never did care much for "Faithfully") but it is more than made up with with "Wheel In The Sky", "Who's Crying Now" and my favorite "Seperate Ways."

[+] 10.0 Awsome collection of hits!
I know there are some of you out there that probably either 1. are not sure if you really like Journey or 2. are torn between the different era's. If you look at my reviews you will find that I am one of those people who has gone retro. I have purchased Journey from the years that really appealed to me. With that said this is a very complete compilation that spans several of their very best years. To that end, a couple of songs that are missing that are personal favorites for me are, stone in love, still they ride, and mother father. If those 3 were on there this would probably be the perfect journey cd. But for those of you riding the fence, do I or do I not want? by this one, from there you can span out and venture to the older cd's and then move to the later offerings. But in my opinion this is a great place to start.

[+] 10.0 Two Generations of Journey Lovers Now
I'm pushing 40 and have loved Journey from their beginning. But getting this CD has created a new generation of Journey lovers, my 10 and 12 year old daughters! They demand I play the Journey CD in the car and jam out to "Any Way You Want". Not to mention, the bonus track of "When You Love a Woman" prompted us to buy the sheet music so we can play and sing it on the piano. This is an amazing collection of Journey at its best. A must have for any Journey fan and a great way to introduce Journey to those that haven't seen the light yet.

[+] 10.0 Raised on Radio
Journey has a special place in the heart of anyone who fell in love in the 1980s. Having seen them with Glass Tiger on their Raised on Radio Tour, I can say Steve Perry was Journey. Anything else was Bad English (not a bad group either).

This CD has what you are looking for. It is something to put in the car on a 1 hour drive and loose yourself. Be careful not to play air drums on Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).

If you like a couple of Journey songs, but don't have all of these in your MP3 collection, download them now. But listen to them in order.

I bought my original CD in 1988, the day after Thanksgiving at the Strawberries at Downtown Crossing in Boston. When I got married in 1997, this was one of only two duplicate CDs, me and my wife had (out of 400 CDs).

A must. Listen to tracks 10 and 11 and tell me I am wrong.

If you feel that loves unfair, you just ask the lonely.

This is a CD that needs to be converted to Guitar Hero IV or Rock Band.

[+] 4.0 Not a good representation of the rock band Journey
I'm a long time Journey fan but this album is just too pathetic. Journey was a great touring rock 'n' roll band with a lot of great material but this compilation makes them sound like a ballad making machine. Ballads make up less than a third of their catalog, yet that's about all that made this album. Don't waste your time with this disc, just start with buying Next, Look Into The Future, Infinity and Evolution. Then you'll be hooked and want to buy Departure, Escape and Frontiers. Then you'll realize that Greg Rollie was a huge contributor to the band. Neal Schon's talent helped keep it going for a while before Journey ventured on to other journeys.

I'll leave you with some Journey history: the band was started by Greg Rollie and Neal Schon who played together in Carlos Santana's band. Santana's band broke up, and they found each other wanting to start a new band which resulted in the birth of Journey!

[+] 10.0 One of the best American Rock Bands Period!!!
This is one of the best albums in the last thirty years. There are no "filler" songs on this cd and just about every song you hear consistantly on the radio. Its no wonder why Journey's greatest hits has sold 14 million copies since its release, and is one of the highest selling albums of all time!

To those that are negative and talk bad towards extremely popular rock bands such as Foreigner, Journey, and Boston, take your negativity elsewhere.

You cannot argue with success and Journey is one of the best rock bands of all time. According to the RIAA, they have over 20 top 40 hits, sold over 75 million records worldwide, 45 million in the United States alone. They are the 29th best selling band in the U.S. Nearly all of their albums have gone multi-platinum. Most importantly Journey had one of the greatest singers of our time, Steve Perry!

[+] 10.0 a must have for any music collection
If you buy only one Journey album this one is it. It contains the biggest and best Journey hits with the wonderful voice of Steve Perry - the best rock vocalist of all time. A great trip down memory lane if you were alive during the late 70s, early 80s, and if you're born after that, you should get this album to hear one of the most original, accomplished classic rock bands. Journey is an American classic.

[+] 2.0 What is wrong with people?
It seems that people (by people I mean College age kids, sorry) seem to only like this music because today's popular taste is backwards. People like "the office" because its awkward. people like Will Farrell because he's "stupid." People like the 80's again because their glitzy, lame and tacky. Anytime I hear "don't stop believin'" all I can think of is a bunch of drunk frat boy yuppies and their girlfriends in their big belts and sack dresses, yelling and screaming tone deaf lyrics in a drunken crowded stupor. Anyone who says Journey is their favorite band and is under 25 is a liar. I guarantee that any one in this age group only has the "hot singles" and 80's greatest hits albums. This is ridiculous.

[+] 10.0 a journey through your mind
Journey is one of those bands where their hit songs ARE, in fact, the best selections from the band (excluding the debut which is totally awesome). Maybe I'm bias because I have a childhood connection to the popular music from the early 80's, or maybe these are just really nice, well-performed songs.

"Wheel in the Sky" is probably my favorite song. It gives me hope, and God knows I need it after last weeks major fight I got into. "Faithfully" is really a touching song, isn't it? I love that one too. "Open Arms" is the reason I wanted this disc in the first place. It's one of the nicest-written songs of all-time. Well, maybe not. There's a lot of music out there. Let's not jump to conclusions here.

"Don't Stop Believin'" is now remembered for being the final song that played during the final segment of the popular TV show the Sopranos. Yeah, I didn't like the ending either, but the song was nice and fitting. It's amazing how heavy "Separate Ways" sounds to this very day. Back in the day it sounded like a regular pop song with a loud chorus. But now, father time has shown us just how unbelievably loud it really is.

Overall, good music, good memories, and good times.

[+] 10.0 Great album
Those of us of a certain age remember all of these great songs. What certain age, you may ask? Well, when the lead singer breaks his hip, that's an indication that his fans may be closer to the same than they want to think. And these songs bring back a lot of memories. Sure, some of those memories are of the time you asked this girl to prom, even though you'd have to drive your dad's Oldsmobile Omega, but she decided she'd rather stay home than go with you, but you still remember that "Open Arms" was the official theme of the prom you didn't go to. But now we're old enough not to be bitter whenever we hear that song. Right?

This album has just enough Journey, and includes all the hits without leaving any out or adding a lot of material from obscure sources that the casual fan may not have much interest in. If you're a hardcore Journey fan, buy all of the CDs; if you just like the music and you're having some 80s nostalgia, just buy this CD instead. It's full of great songs and it's a lot of fun.

[+] 10.0 It's the Journey, not the destination
Once Steve Perry joined Journey for the "Infinity" album, the band's course was inevitably reset. They changed direction from being a progressive rock band to an arena rock juggernaut. Perry's main contribution was a strong melodic sense coupled to his more soulful vocals. The hits started almost immediately, as "Lights" and "Wheel In The Sky" became FM Rock Radio staples.

That is what this greatest hits focuses on, the songs that became the standards by which the public remembers the band. If you were interested in the albums BEFORE "Infinity," I suggest "Time 3," which adds material from the years when Neal Schon was still aping his jazz-Rock tenure with Santana and Gregg Rollie was doing standard rock keyboard boogie. Personally, I liked them better when Perry got on board. The sound focused and the songwriting tightened. Songs like "Separate Ways/Worlds Apart" and "Any Way You Want It" could add a jolt of adrenaline to a day of radio. When Jonathan Cain replaced Gregg Rollie on "Escape," Journey took on a romantic bent from Cain's songwriting. "Open Arms" came first, then "Faithfully" (on "Frontiers") solidified it. These were pop radio songs without peer, and they make Journey's "Greatest Hits" an essential document of 70's and 80's radio rock. (The updated version includes the best song from the 90's reunion "Trial by Fire," "When You Love A Woman.")

The other reason you might be looking at this is not because of Steve Perry's voice or Neal Schon's guitar heroics, but because of Tony and Carmella. It was Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" that echoed out of the final minutes of "The Sopranos" closing episode. It was funny that Tony passed over Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra for Journey and inspire a million parodies in the process. (Including Hilary Clinton...where the best moment is when she and President Bill Clinton are flipping through songs and Bill says "My money's on Smash Mouth...") Talk about cementing your place in pop culture...who could have asked for better?

This best of offers a pair of soundtrack rarities in "Only The Young" (from "Vision Quest") and "Ask The Lonely" (from "Two of a Kind"). Missing are a few crucial singles like "Suzanne," "Stone In Love" and "Walks Like A Lady." If you really want them, go for the box sets or individual CD's.

Unfortunately, it does not include my favorite song tandem Feeling That Way/ Anytime. For that you need to buy The Infinity album. It does include some great songs, a good mix of rockers and ballads. [+] 10.0 Dollars and (common) cents.
I'm going to rate this CD based on a $1 per song cost to total cost for the entire CD (Apple and Rhapsody charge $1 per song).
I can still remember the days when, if you were a guy, you didn't admit to your friends that you liked Journey. I guess because they wrote a lot of soft rock or 'pop' love songs and had a really big lady following back then. Journey was so damn popular that they had their own video arcade game. It was much better than Kiss' pinball machine. Is Steve Perry ever going to do a reunion with the band?
This CD is great. I'm not afraid anymore to admit that I like Journey. The CD on Amazon is priced at $10. There are $14 worth of excellent songs on here (Tracks 1 through 14). So this CD is worth the price. You can also load the entire album on iTunes for $10, if you don't want to wait for the CD in the mail (and save yourself the shipping costs).

This is the best disc I have purchased so far from Amazon. I grew up listening to bands like Journey and I am glad I found this disc. As far as I am concerned, Journey were at their best when Steve perry was fronting the band. [+] 10.0 A sensational album that transcends generations...
Journey is a unique group in so many ways. It takes all the elements of great melodies, great vocals, great subject matter, and all-around talent and puts it all together in this Greatest Hits CD. Steve Perry is one of the most talented vocalists in the rock genre, with an amazing range and impeccable tone and control. This album has a little bit of everything, form the slow, smooth feel of "Lights" to the soaring, melancholy overtones of "Open Arms" to the upbeat, all-or-nothing, forceful drive of "Separate Ways". This is a great release from one of the greatest bands of our time.

[+] 4.0 A Little Too Flat
Somewhat disappointed with this CD as it is not as dynamic as other Journey recordings. A burned download of Faithfully (Frontiers Album) from Walmart Downloads - then burned - blows away the dynamic range of this CD. If you are looking for a great collection of Journey songs, this CD has a good song list. If you care about dynamic range in the presentation, you may be a little unhappy. Bottom line -- the remaster is a little too flat for me.

I am very, very pleased with this CD showcasing JOURNEY'S Greatest Hits. All of the songs are great and I enjoy all of them. I am 29 years old and did not grow up with Journey. However, I do recall listening to their songs on the radio in my junior high days. If you like Journey then purchase this CD because you will not be disappointed. It was even better listening to it when driving on the open road especially on rural sections of highway without much traffic. It really puts you in control of the driver's seat! [+] 10.0 Only the tip of the iceberg... so don' t let this be your last Journey CD
I will give this CD 5 stars because these are all 5 star songs but we are talking about only 15 or 16 songs (depending whether or not you get the newer or older edition of "Journey: Greatest Hits"). I have talked to plenty of people that never heard any of Journey's original albums/CDs before they got ahold of only one CD by them... "Greatest Hits". They all said it was "awesome" or "great". Some of these fans were very young compared to me and it was heart-warming to hear that "vintage" Journey continues to have such a positive impact on listeners even to this day. It's also great that many times there is a "common ground" discussion when the subject of Journey comes up. Back in '78 there was a lot of talk about Journey. That was the year "Infinity" (the fourth album for Journey but the first with Steve Perry on lead vocals) came out and for those of us music-loving teens of that time period, it was a pretty big deal."Evolution" came out the next spring in '79 with a similar album cover (but having different colors) and we all had to get that one too. What's interesting to think about is the fact that none of us ever thought about the idea of a greatest hits collection by Journey coming out because every album by Journey in the late 70s (as well as in the early eighties) was like a greatest hits album in itself. The songs many times ran together on each side of the records and tapes and the songs were thought to be inseparable from the album. I don't remember anyone recording different songs to play from different Journey L.P.s. They wanted all the songs played and in the order they were in on the albums. But this of course was during a time when Journey was not crossing over to the pop charts. Mostly the FM rock stations would play their songs two at a time since they many times ran together. "Departure" came out in 1980 and it was a very different album than the previous two as it contained many different moods. Greg Rolie was about to leave the band and that was thought by some (in hindsight) to be the reason for the title "Departure" but later after obverving subsequent albums and their art-work it looked more like merely the first phase of a trilogy. A "Departure" only to be "Captured" and then to finally "Escape". In early 1981, their live album "Captured" came out and everyone that heard it wished they could have attended those concerts but we were all made to feel a part of the experience as listeners. Perry told us (via vinyl) "THIS IS YOUR ALBUM". That is one thing that stands out about Journey, they never seem to loose touch with their fan base. Even the songs (most of the time) are written with fans in mind (especially after Jonathon Cain had joined the group). "Escape" came out in the Summer of '81, the same year I graduated from high school making the album most meaningful to me. I bought the album that summer and heard the song "Open Arms" before it was ever even a hit. It sounded almost sacred and I had no concept of it ever being the monster hit (number 2 for 6 weeks) it turned out to be but I'm glad it did since they deserved the wide recognition they received for composing and peforming such a great song as that. I could say much more but by the time "Frontiers" came out in Spring of '83, Journey was getting a lot of exposure. MTV came out in late '81 and by '83 you could see these guys every day. We could all relate to these songs (both guys and girls). That is what was (and is) so special about the group Journey. It's like Valentine's Day any day their ballads are heard being played in the background. My opinion about this greatest hits CD is it's artwork is beautiful and the songs it contains are wonderful. So, if you buy just one CD by Journey this is the one to get. But remember, any additional purchase of any Journey CD is never a bad bet. All of the albums from 1978's "Infinity" to 1986's "Raised On Radio" are 5 star Albums/CDs. In Short, 15 or 16 songs simply isn't enough in my opinion. I had to get 'em all (including this one) speaking for myself.

I tell you something. I first saw Journey on a show called "Midnight Special" with the late Wolfman Jack. Anybody remember that? I saw this band and from the moment I saw Steve Perry, I knew without a doubt that this band was going all the way to the top. Steve Perry just blew this black woman away with his singing and I have been a fan of Journey from the moment I saw him! Can't nobody tell me that Steve Perry can't sing! Journey would never have been successful without him. He's a very talented singer and songwriter. I remembered when Journey came to Wichita, KS. The concert was SOLD OUT! The band gave me my money's worth!
How could they not especially with Steve Perry front and center stage rocking Wichita like they never been rocked before. I would recommend this CD to every Journey fan. I already own this CD and it is so good to hear the hits and think about the good memories that Journey gave me and others throughout one of the biggest highlights of their career. But I'm going to rate this CD 10 + stars because of the music, memories and most of all, the legendary Steve Perry.

[+] 2.0 Everybody in the world already has this album
In the process of remastering the entire Journey back catalog, Legacy decided to remaster their first Greatest Hits album. WHY?! Everybody in the world already has this album (you might as well admit it). You'd have a good argument that it's for the bonus track "When You Love a Woman," but if you don't have the Trial By Fire album, you can't call yourself a Journey fan anyway. There is also more of a selection of hits on The Essential Journey 2 CD collection.

Great line-up of songs. If you don't have any Journey, this is a good way to get started.
