[+] 10.0 Great for Small Kitchens!
I bought mine from a guy, who also had bought it from someone else. Although I am the 3rd owner, the dishwasher still works great. The dishes are always clean and I have no problem about the draining of water.

Haier HDP18PA Portable Dishwasher is 18", which is way better than the 24" models for the ones who have little space in their kitchens. Besides, you will still be able to put your DEEP PANS inside it!

Contrary to the other reviewers, I can fit my 10" plates, also. I put 3 of them on the back, right and left edges. 3 plates per washing cycle is enough for me. If you need to wash 6, run the machine again. Don't forget that this 18" portable dishwasher is designed for singles, couples without children and students. If you belong to one of these groups, this Haier will fully meet your needs.

I'm delighted to own this thing!

[+] 4.0 Do not buy poor quality
I bought this applicance for a disabled young adult who has trouble washing disher. This dishwasher is very low quality, the back panel is cardboard. Wheels fell off, 10 inch dinner plates do not fit. Hose connection and electric cord does not store after use. The poor guy had water all over his kitchen floor day on 2. I wouldn't suggest this appliance to anyone.

[+] 6.0 It's a love/hate relationship
I've had this washer for over 4 years. It's still working, HOWEVER (and this is a big one) I've screamed at it lots of times, including today, but will still recommend it for those living in small apartments or studios. There are some things you need to know and if you're not willing to troubleshoot or mess with it, it's really not for you.

1) The wheels will fall off. They're horrible- don't even bother with them. Go to a hardware store and buy a furniture mover/dolly and leave it on it at all times. It will save your kitchen from flooding when a wheel actually decides to fall off.

2) You might have trouble with the hose blowing off the sink-connector/adapter. This will be due to one of two thing- the sink adapter gets worn out after a while or you're missing a rubber washer inside the hose. Both of these things can be replaced. I was able to find the parts from www.apwagner.com/ The sink adapter was $8 the rubber rings were 75 cents. The hard part was trying to get the part numbers from Haier (sink adapter is #DW-5800-06, rubber ring is #WD-0015-01). You can also reduce wear on the sink adapter by using a rubber band to keep it on tighter when you're running the dishwasher.

3) When the instruction book says the dishwasher has to be level, they aren't kidding. This will flood your apartment- even if it's only off by 1/8 inch. I must have been lucky but after four-years, today was the first time it ever happened to me. I thought the door was leaking, it was actually just a level problem. If it happens, when you turn back on the dishwasher it will beep and flash at you. To reset it, you have to tilt backwards 45 degrees until it's totally drained. This will flood your apartment worse but will fix the problem. Re-level the dishwasher and start it back up again and it will work. Basically, if you live in an old apartment building, your floors probably aren't level so check it often, especially if you move the washer around at all. You wouldn't believe how little it takes for it to flood.

4) No, this dishwasher does not fit full sized dinner plates. You can get away with putting one on each side (so the spinner doesn't hit them) but I think 9.5" plates are as big as you'll fit in here.

I realize these sound horrible but it's only a handful of times that it goes wrong and so far (knock on wood) nothing has been bad enough that I haven't been able to fix it myself. Plus, if you're anything like my old roommates, husband and me, having a dishwasher- even a little one- will save you tons of conflict and keep dirty dishes out of your sink and for me- it's worth it. If you have a small apartment- it's the way to go- much better than the counter-top units.

Hope that helps at least some of you!

[+] 10.0 I LOVE my Haier Portable Dishwasher
I live in a modest space and enjoy it that way and prefer to not use the utilities and the water consumption of a full size washer. I have had my dishwasher for two years now and have never had a problem. No leaks, beautifully clean dishes, pots, pans, silver, you name it. I have never been so satisfied with a household small appliance.

If you live in small space and have little time for dishes, this is the product for you!

[+] 4.0 Could be a winner but . . .
Haier Portable 18" Floor Model:
I had a very limited budget, only enough storage room and need for a small portable dishwasher. This Haier unit was the only one available in my immediate shopping area (with exception the over priced, $529 Kenmore model). I really like this machine but gee-meenish, one problem after another:

First, the hook-up. This AIN'T no plug and play. Like most, I had hose connection and water leakage problems but once I realized the illustration in the Haier manual is wrong (though the wording is correct- THE RED HOOK-LIKE END CONNECTS TO THE DISHWASHER), I took the faucet quick connect piece and hose back to the home improvement store, had their personnel undo my work, and then correctly assemble the parts together. He used "2" adjustable multi-position clamp-type pliers to make the connection (no tape needed and all threads completely screwed in). At home, we used box joint pliers to attach the red hook-like end to the dishwasher (no tape needed) until there was no movement of the hose attachment. Connected to the faucet and TA-DAH, absolutely NO leakage! (Ladies, I am also female and I simply did not have the strength or proper tools necessary to get these connectors fitted together properly, so get help if needed.) I loaded the dishes, started it up, and 45 minutes later, wow, does this little machine really cleans!!!

Second, 10 inch plates will not fit! Now, what good is a dishwasher if I can't wash the plates! I finally managed to work in 3 (nope, couldn't get in the 4th) with a lot of maneuvering and pressing down the tongs so the plates would lean enough to avoid the spray arm, and everything came out spotlessly clean! I really liked this dishwasher and decided to purchased 9.5" plates, however, couldn't find them anywhere. Then . . .

Third, during the 3rd use, the machine started beeping, beeping, beeping, and appeared to be stuck in-cycle (though my dishes were clean but a little wet). Not realizing the control buttons were locked up, I pressed one, and it broke (but still worked). There is nothing in the manual about this problem. I went to Haier's online site and the problem is addressed there. I worked through the steps and got the machine to clear. However, the next time I used the machine, it happened again but this time I could not get the dishwasher to clear and after multiple attempts, I finally/reluctantly gave up. I returned the dishwasher for a refund.

This dishwasher has a lot of nice features: A 45 minute normal cycle (with 3 other cycle options), top or bottom rack cleaning only or both, quiet operation, compact size (but needs to be taller), stainless interior, and I think I mentioned - it really cleans thoroughly. For a one-person household, it seemed to be just what I need. This really could be a great little machine - but Haier must work out the kinks (starting with the hose assembly).

PS: Consider the Danby 1805W. Fortunately, I found it on-line with free ship-to-store included. The size is similar (taller to accommodate 11.5" plates and deeper for already-attached hose storage), and the is price comparable. While it is not perfect, it solves a lot of the problems of the Haier model (I was told Haier and Danby are manufactured by the same company).

[+] 6.0 A Fair Review
I purchased this dishwasher due to it's small size and used it for a little over a year. All and all I think it's a good product, but it's not perfect, but had the manufacturer spent a little more on this machine it would have been. Here are the three major problems with this dishwasher:
1) The lower rack needs an inch or so more clearance, regular size plates just don't fit. I became and expert in loading this machine and found that one can get three full size plates to fit by placing one on the far left, right and back edges of the lower rack, but for the back you'll need to angle the plate in to clear the spray arm located under the upper rack.
2) The inlet hose connection at the back of the dishwasher seems to leak, I was able to fix this using a new rubber washer (red) from home depot.
3) The connection kit that comes with the dishwasher is just plain silly. I replaced this with a Maytag portable dishwasher hose connection it. the inlet require no modification, the outlet I attached using a hose clamp attached to the what I left of the flexible gray stock hose. The Maytag house is long, but I found that the extra length allows you to loop the hose thereby ensuring that the discharge pump can push the water to the height of a faucet connection.

Other problems that can arise is if you try to force the door closed. I did this once and discovered that the dishwasher did not seal correctly and as a result some water got into the control switch and just continued to beep. There are repair parts available on the web but you need to search. I made this repair, and gave the dishwasher away after deciding I wanted a larger portable dishwasher. The Haier is still running strong. It does a great job cleaning dishes, but you should periodically wipe clean the gasket and the space between the door and tub as detergent will build up and start spotting up the dishes, this is an easy maintenance.

On other note: If you get a constant beeping sound and have eliminated an electronic fault, the problem may be due to the float switch being stuck which is telling the computer that the water is not draining thereby triggering the alarm. This happened to the people I gave it too after I had it in storage for a couple of weeks. I think this got stuck when I laid the machine on it's side to transport it. The fix is to dislodge it, which can be done by picking up a back corner a half inch or so and dropping it, you might need to do so more than once, just don't get carried away.

All and all I would recommend that you only get this dishwasher if there is absolutely no way you can purchase a full-sized or 18" Kenmore style machine b/c of space, if it's a money issue I recommend you do your dishes a little longer by hand until you can get a regular one. I can, without hesitation, recommend the Maytag jet clean II convertible dishwashers, great machine.

[+] 8.0 Not too bad
I bought this on Craiglist, and then read all these reviews, so I was quite worried.

However, after about 6 washes, I'm feeling good. I haven't had any leaking problems. However, if the connection between your faucet and the unt's water hose isn't solid (tight, teflon tape, etc), water will drip down the hose and onto the floor. If you wrap a towel around the connection, it will trap the water and drip off the towel (not the hose) into the sink. I imagine that was some of the leaking problems, as even a little bit will run down the hose and eventually cause a puddle. The wheels are said to be cheap, but just roll them nicely, and everything's fine. Tough stains and gunk have come out fine with the normal wash.

CONS: Yes, plates over 9 3/4" (manual says 10") dont' fit the right way, but you can place 3 10 1/4" plates leaning over the other way where 5 should fit; yes less capacity, but they fit. The glass/top rack should have a way to change heights to accomodate the larger plates. The top rack's bottom surface doesn't really hold large mouth glasses nicely, but you can work around it.

I don't really know how a small dishwasher could hold 10"+ plates straight up, and wine glasses on the top. That's what you get with a "portable". You have to be a little creative, but for two with glasses, cooking utensils, pots, bowls and plates, and other strays from lunch, this is working fine.

--- UPDATE----
Moving into 6 months, and I am still pleasantly pleased with this product. If you jiggle the connection to your faucet, you don't need the towel to keep it from leaking. My wife never rinses off items (to my consternation) but rarely do items need to be cleaned again, no matter how much grease they've got.
Although the wheels ARE very weak. They have collapsed on each other, and although that just makes it swivel when rolling, I'm afraid they'll break shortly.

[+] 2.0 Terrible Product!
We've had similar problems with this dishwasher. This first problem is that regular sized dinner plates don't fit!!! The second is the soap dispenser doesn't open all the time. I agree with others, a total lemon.

[+] 10.0 Excellent
I'm surprised to read negative reviews on this. I couldn't be more pleased with it -- I have an apartment so thought I could never have a dishwasher, and then there was this. My expectations were low as to what performance to expect from a portable dishwasher, and they were exceeded.

It's a well designed little marvel of technology. It does exactly what it should, in every respect. It's compact on the outside, roomy on the inside (fits one sinkful of dishes, which is all I tend to do at a time). And the removable silverware basket and guards mean you can also fit large bowls/pots or strange-shaped items in. I've not had any problem with the wheels -- they are strong and the machine moves smoothly and stays in place wherever it's moved (I even plan to put a cutting board on top and use it as counterspace). Quiet, no vibration, no dancing across the floor as I was worried there would be. And dishes are very clean and shiny when you use the rinse agent (impressed that there is a rinse agent dispenser, along with all the other features).

I think some of the other reviewers made things too complicated for themselves. I just hooked it up as it is intended to be hooked up, right out of the box. Didn't need a single tool or adapter.

Yes, the U-bend is too narrow for the lip of my sink. I'm sure there's something larger I can get that will substitute. The only other thing I'd change is to put a hook on the back of the dishwasher that you could wind all the hoses and the power cord around (much like you do with a vacuum cleaner). There is a loop you can put a fastener through, and that's what I plan to do.

[+] 8.0 Awesome compact dishwasher for handy-type person
I LOVE my haier portable dishwasher. I ordered it with trepidation after reading several negative reviews, but since it's the only portable diswasher that fits in the area I had for it (is the smallest of the non-countertop portable dishwashers), I took a gamble and bought it.

The shipping service people for Walmart (where I bought) are idiots--screwed up delivery times twice. Once I got it, setting up took some craftiness. This is NOT a dishwasher for folks who just want to plug and play. However, if you are mildly handy with a relatively intelligent brain, you should be able to figure it out. Hopefully, my tips will save you lots of set-up time.

The biggest problem was the connecting hoses. They are short (6' for the fill hose, less, I think, for the emptying hose) and they are NOT retractable, like a lot of other portables' are. So, I bought a new 8' fill hose (6', 8', and 12" are avail, but the latter is hardest to find) and another emptying hose and clamp to extend that hose (since the emptying hose already comes attached and cannot be replaced). I also bought some silicon tape (standard plumbing stuff--just ask in the plumbing dept.) and extra washers that were slightly larger than the ones which came with the hoses, since those aren't enough to prevent leaking. My first attempts at hook-up had a lot of leaking at the connecting spots. Do NOT hook all hoses up and then just press start on the dishwasher or you may have water everywhere--first make sure your hose from the sink doesn't leak, then hook it to your Haier, turn the sink on, and make sure that connecting spot doesn't leak. Only then do a trial run, with the emptying hose safely emptying to a sink or outside.

To fix leaking, I had to put 2 washers together, wrap silicon tape around them, stuff them into the hose ends, making sure they were pressed all the way in with a nail head as a presser, then put silicon tape on the faucet and the haier connector, and then hooked the hose up, making sure it was all very tight. No leaking that way. As for the emptying tube, on my first run, the extension tube was not clamped on tight enough, so I had leakage there--but a screwdriver tightening to the clamp fixed that.

I made sure the dishwasher was on a flat surface, had good detergent, and loaded dishes correctly--all as according to directions. Pressed start and voila! I haven't had dishes this clean the entire time I've been handwashing for 3 years. I should note that I did not wish to wheel this machine back and forth, so I did not even bother installing the wheels. I have read they are flimsy, but they don't look like it. You will need a pair of long-nosed pliers to install them. Also, since my dishwasher is in it's spot "permanently", I hooked my fill hose directly up to my utility sink, and did not use the "quick connect" that apparently goes w/ kitchen sinks--doesn't look that quick to me, but I have not tried it, so can't say for sure.

If you need something bigger than countertop, but still extremely compact and affordable, I highly recommend this dishwasher as long as you don't mind a bit extra time (maybe 1-2 hours between shopping and hooking up), cost (apx. $20), and effort to get it up and running. Hope this has helped you.

[+] 2.0 worked for 1 month
I've had it a little over 1 month, and now all it does is beep. Called in for repair and the technician from a very reputable company said that no one is familiar with this brand and to keep my fingers crossed on parts being available(which they were not). He said just return it since I had it so short of a time. After waiting a week for parts that are still not available , that is exactly what I'm doing. Keep your receipts and original pakaging:)

[+] 2.0 Add me to the wet floor crew
I have no time to wash dishes and no space with my small countertop and single bowl sink in my apartment. When I saw this I knew it would be exactly what I needed. I used this product a total of three times. When it did work it worked beautifully. I had perfectly clean dishes. Then it started leaking water all over the kitchen floor so I returned it. I now am the proud owner of a similar sized Kenmore product and couldn't be happier. Take my advice and spend more initially so you can save yourself a few aching muscles from having to return it.
