[+] 6.0 Do a fairly good job
We have lots of leaves on our driveway. The sweeper does a reasonable job of picking them up so long as the leaves are not piled up to much. If the leaves are layered or in a pile the sweeper will not pick them up. It will picked up small branches that came down from the oak trees. One down side is the handle. After a couple of uses it started to bend to the side. I have tried to bend it back, but to no avail.

[+] 8.0 Quick and easy to use
I had another Hoover outdoor sweeper that lasted for years. I used it so much that it finally quit. So, I bought this new one and it works just as well at the old one. I use this on a long sidewalk and a blacktop driveway. I also have an electric outdoor vacuum, but I use the Hoover most of the time provided all the autumn leaves are not falling at the same time. The sweeper is great for a quick cleanup without having to pull out a big electric with a 100 foot cord.

If you are expecting perfection then forget it. But, if you want a device that is easy to use and helps keep your patio and sidewalk clean, then this sweeper is for you.

I bought this product from Reliable Paper and it had a missing part. They refused to remedy the problem resulting in my need to buy the part directly from Hoover. Do not rely on Reliable Paper.

Why keep item or show on site when you cannot deliver ... I Did not expected this from Amazon.

[+] 10.0 Quick outdoor clean up
This product works as advertised. It will pickup light debris from your patio and walkways without electricity or excessive noise. It does not work in corners, you will have to use a broom and move the dirt out of the corner. It has a simple, sturdy design. I was looking for a quick, easy way to remove leaves from my paved outdoor areas, without the noise of a vacuum or blower. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

[+] 4.0 Was expecting more, too.
Does not pick up any quantity of debris. You have to move at a snails pace for it to be effective. I have used it 2 times, once on the driveway and once on a patio, and likely will never use it again. It has infomercial written all over it.

[+] 6.0 SpinSweep review
I like the idea of the SpinSweep but it's not as easy as I had expected. Maybe it's because my driveway isn't flat. It has many cracks. It works well on the more even parts. I wish it was less expensive.

[+] 6.0 limited use, works on smooth surfaces fairly well
Disappointing. On blacktop, will pickup about 60% of leaves and small debris on first pass, but brushes get clocked fairly easily. Dumps effortlessly. On flagstone I found it useless and incapable of picking up the stuff that falls from the trees in the spring here in the Northeast. Made of plastic and not as robust as other lawn sweepers I've seen. I think it ought to sell for abou $30, which is about the value it has for me.

[+] 6.0 It works but...
for my patio application, required almost as much effort as simply sweeping with a broom and dust pan. I had to cover the area multiple times to get all the dirt. I have a lot of corners and it cannot get into those, forcing me to get out the broom anyway. In short, there wasn't that "WOW, this is great!" moment when you realize that a new tool will result in a fraction of the effort. The more I pushed, the more I realized the savings in effort would be marginal at best. Back to using a blower for me.

[+] 4.0 IT OK!!!
I clean parking lots for a living. I found out it does not do well when their is a lot of paper. The paper gets stuck between the wheel and the frame. which is trying sometimes when you have to stop an take the paper out. it does well on leafs which i encounter a lot but sometimes the leafs even comes out the sides. It comes in handy sometimes for the light work i do with it. perfect for cups, cans, and bottles. If bottles are full it will not fit but if empty it goes right in. I use it twice a day. This may be a bit much for it. once a week is idea for it.

[+] 4.0 Was expecting more
I bought this (L1405)after being a very happy owner of the previous model (L1400) for several years. The aluminum handles of the L1400 had broken/torn at a point where the tube is pinched flat in order to attach to the sweeper. I have been very happy with using the L1400 to sweep my driveway, primarily of pine needles. The needles stick a little in the middle scraper piece but I just pull in reverse for a few feet, they dislodge, and I sweep forward again and pick them up. Emptying is easy, and storing the unit on its end is very convenient.

I tried to order replacement handle uprights but Hoover wasn't very helpful. They are listed as not available from Hoover, and when I wrote to them they referred me to a local repair center without telling me if they were still made nor telling me a price.

I noticed one difference between the L1400 and the L1405 is the L1405 has a pivoting rear wheel while the L1400's rear wheel is fixed. This makes the L1405 much less stable - the rear moves freely from side to side so you have to stabilize it through the handles.

The real problem is the right wheel's gears stripped within seconds of first use. The L1405 comes with a piece of paper that says "If unit does not perform to your satisfaction DO NOT RETURN UNIT. Take it to your local authorized repair center." I can understand taking it to a repair center for a warranty claim, but if the thing fails straight out of the box I am not going to drive it to a center 20 miles away, drop it off, and return several weeks later to pick it up.

I thought about sucking up the entire $89.99 just for the handle uprights (which do fit either the L1400 or the L1405, so if somebody reads this review maybe that will help you - you could order the handle uprights from the L1405 parts list), but the rubber center scraper piece of my L1400 has worn a hole through part of it so I doubted it had much more of a lifetime left.

I sent it back to Amazon for a refund. I first told Amazon I would send it back via UPS, but UPS wanted $68 in shipping. Even though Amazon said they'd pay for the return shipping I thought that was obscenely high. I contacted Amazon again and got a prepaid USPS label and sent it back through them, which I think cost around $19. Amazon's customer service personnel understood what I wanted to do but kept messing up sending me links to get the prepaid shipping, so I had to file a new return request on my own in order to get a tracking number that would print out a prepaid USPS label. I worried that I wouldn't get my money back (because I had, in effect, two different return tracking numbers) but it worked out in the end.

I went to Frontgate's website and bought the Haaga standard outdoor sweeper, 20" width. It has two large rear wheels so it doesn't have any tendency to wobble about when pushed. It has the same weak pinched aluminum handle uprights so I expect to get about the same 5-6 year lifetime out of it that I got from the Hoover. It's a shame I can't get the L1400 again because the truth is the L1400 is the best one of the three. Hoover really made a great product right the first time. The L1405's pivoting rear wheel is a nuisance, a step backward rather than forward. The Haaga's bin is a fully separate piece than the head, not just a separate piece that sits on top of the main unit like the L1400/L1405. I find reattaching the pieces to be cumbersome. Also, the Haaga cannot stand on its end for storage. The large rear wheels cause the unit to roll and fall when I try to stand it on end.

As an aside, Haaga recommends lubricating the worm gears of each drive wheel with lube (a light silicone spray) every 10 hours of use, and includes a can of lubricant with the unit.

[+] 10.0 Awesome Tool to have!!!!!
We really love this outdoor sweeper. It worked better than I had expected! I was so surprised how clean our driveway looked after using it. You don't realize all the pieces of dirt and little pebbles that are all over. I give it 5 stars. Everyone who saw it couldn't understand that it uses no power...You just push it and it works. It's nice to have no cords or gas to worry about!

It's very green and keeps your property looking great!

[+] 4.0 just ok
I have what they call K-9 grass and thought it would be good for picking up all the tree droppings on it. Well it doesnt work as good as I thought it would. Its like cutting the grass, hard to push and have to keep going over it and over it. Does OK on flat surfaces but again such a small pick up area it takes forever....would return it if it didnt cost so much to do so...I just hope I find another use for it....

[+] 8.0 Leaves, leaves, leaves
Between the 200 year old oak trees and two pecan trees, this product is great! Does the job in half the time and our driveway has never looked so neat. This is my second purchase (I wore the other one out in about 4 years). I didn't give it 5 stars because even on the highest setting, you still have to use the old broom and dust pan to pick up a layer of leaves when there are too many on the ground (it also picks up sand and dirt which helps in drought starved Texas)

[+] 10.0 A HUGE time saver
I wish I had known about this product years ago! I have a big driveway with a big eucalyptus tree over it that seems to drop leaves all year round (I'm in S. Cal). I've been either sweeping or vacuuming constantly, and eucalyptus leaves have a way of "sticking" to the ground. This sweeper picks everything up effortlessly. I now have a clean driveway all the time, I almost hope for leaves just so I can push it around. Plus, my kids like to do it, too.

Pros:
-Effective at picking up otherwise hard to pick up leaves
-Effective at picking up various debris
-Not so hard to clean
-Not so hard to push
-Environmentally friendly
-Good value for the price
-Good exercise!

Cons:
-Not good at sweeping up mounds of leaves and debris
-Sticks and long pine needles get stuck in various parts (not hard to remove, though)
-Leaves a thin line of fine dirt it can't pick up each time (you can make a couple of passes to get it, though)

It does take some experimenting to figure out the best height and walking speed for the surface you are on, but once you figure it out, it works fine. Despite the product claims, don't expect to pick up big objects or plow through big mounds of leaves or dirt and expect it work well. It is NOT a vacuum cleaner. At first, I was a little dismayed in that it feels too light, i.e., a little cheap, but I got over it. I am also concerned how long the brushes will last, but I hope I can buy replacements.

Overall, one of the best outdoor maintenance products I have bought in a long time. It makes it so much easier to always have a clean driveway and patio. Highly recommended.

[+] 10.0 Great helper
I bought this product through an infomercial. I payed over $150 dollars for it. I bought because the tree in front of my house in the street, dropped a lot of little leaves through out the year. I got tired of sweeping them, so now I use the sweeper and the job looks like a professional street sweeper came by and did it. My neighbors are envious of me. I have so much fun sweeping the leaves that I do the neighbors side too!! I totally recommend this Item. The cons are that when it gets full it does it gets sloppy and it does not clean as well. So I empty it often and then it does a great job. It does leave a streak but then I go over it and it picks it up. I don't recommend it when leaves are wet! It gets messy. I have had mine for five years and it still works. I will definetly buy another one. Now they are cheaper!

I purchased the SpinSweep two years ago from Amazon and wore it out and now have ordered my 2nd Pro from Amazon again. Arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. [+] 6.0 It'[s Ok
When I received this I went out to my back patio and tried it. Took a couple of passes and was working great. Then the right wheel kept jamming. I took a closer look and the retaining clip that keeps the wheel on came off. Looking around I found the clip and repaired it.

I bought this thinking it would clean up the pine needles, leaves and dirt that is blown onto my back patio. It does a great job at cleaning up the pine needles and leaves. As for the dirt, it picks up most of it and leaves a line of dirt. You go back to clean up the remaining dirt and the line moves to where ever the center is.

If you have big things to clean up it is great. But don't expect it to pick up all the dirt. This was a lot of money for only picking up the bigger things. I should of just stuck with my rake and broom.

[+] 10.0 Great for bad backs!
I have several issues with my back that interfere with using brooms and dust pans, leaf grabbers, etc. I feed birds near my patio and seed is forever getting scattered around. Also there are many trees nearby and in the fall everybody else's leaves blow onto the patio and my drive and front porch. I got this outdoor sweeper in the hopes it wasn't too heavy to push, empty, or store. To my delight, I could easily handle the sweeper. And even better, it worked! The bird seed came right up and the few pre-autumn leaves were quickly removed. I can easily move it and store it, on the patio now, in the garage next winter. I was a doubter, but now I'm sold on this Hoover product!

[+] 6.0 Average Product
I was excited to buy this product but disappointed when it arrived. The construction is OK and the item works so so. It misses some items and does not do well on pations and driveways. Does OK in a garage and cellar but cannot easily handle and surface less than perfect. I was expecting better performance and construction from an outdoor sweeper. This is on the lower end of the quality spectrum. Buy with caution.

[+] 6.0 Not Bad

Very light
Works best if ground is dry, even better on smooth floors.
Does not work so well going downhill.
Picks fir tree needles up decently on my asphalt driveway.
You have to somewhat overlap your sweep passes on rough ground.

[+] 10.0 Pays for itself in one week
I purchase two of these for each construction project I do (multifamily residential). I only need one laborer to do the clean up job of two thanks to this contraption. It is fast, easy, and adjustable. It does not, however, do too well in corners and is not good if dust control is an issue. It will, however, save you a ton of clean up money...or you could just push the cost back on the subcontractors who messed your project up in the first place! Either way, you'll have a clean site.

[+] 6.0 One more piece that takes space.
This is a large item, about the size of a small lawn mower. It's light weight: that's not a problme. It's $100 bucks, all said an done. It doesn't actually replace a broom: you will still need one for some jobs.

This means it's one more thing to take space and use, and so it has to "pay the rent" to be around your home. In my case, it's a nice thing, but doesn't actually pay the rent.

It picks stuff up, but it's not a lot of fun to empty. When you empty it, at least half the time you spill, so you need a broom to pick up the spillage.

If you have LOTS of concrete with small enough sticks, leaves, grass and other junk, it's useful. I bought it because i have plenty of rental properties and send a crew out with a picjup fool of lawn tools. So this thing is just one more thing.

That also means I bought it with tax-deductible money.

It's not useful at my house. I tried it out there on my deck and patio. Many sticks are too long for it. When things get wet, you have the same proplem as a broom does. My 12-year-old grandson can run it, but emptying it well becomes problematic to him.

In short, this is one more piece that takes up storage space, and is likely not going to be much help to you.

[+] 8.0 Not bad...
After reading the reviews, my expectations were really high. But the sweeper does an extremely reasonable job. I use it to clean the driveway after using the mulcher/mower.
But I can't justify the cost and the sweeper is overpriced. This will probably the most expensive broom I'll ever have. But it works.

[+] 10.0 Lightweight, Quiet & Effective
If you like a clean driveway after mowing the lawn, but hate the work of sweeping or the noise of a blower, this is the perfect tool. It's assembles in a flash and stores flat against the wall. It gets right up to the edge of the drive, sidewalk or garage wall. Emptying it after cleaning is easy too. Save your back and don't annoy your neighbors. I've only had this 2 days and already my neighbor came over to check it out and said he wants to get one for himself.

[+] 10.0 LABOR & TIME SAVER
Although I was skeptical about buying the sweeper I decided to go for it & I'm glad I did.I got it for cleaning my horse barn aisle and it's AWESOME!It does what the company claims. My barn looks like it's been vacuumed! The aisle is 12'W x 72'L concrete with a row of 4'x6'rubber mats down the center & we have a smaller concrete aisle that goes from the barn to the indoor riding arena. I like my barn CLEAN so it's gets swept many times a day which is very time consuming & dusty - if you have a horse business you can relate. The sweeper picks up just about everything I need it to including the footing that's tracked back into the barn from the arena. I really like the fact that instead of dust being stirred up by hand sweeping it is for the most part picked up by the SpinSweep! It has a simple adjustment knob for different surface types, it edges really well, is very light weight & can be hung up out of the way.I still have to hand sweep under the stall doors but I now I just sweep it into the aisle and use the SpinSweep. I highly recommend this for any large barn owner. It's easy to use & it's cut my cleaning time way way down!Great for the driveway & walkways too.

[+] 8.0 as advertised
I, too, need to admit I love this thing. I buy too many gadgets - but this really works. We have an incline, rough pavement drive way that gets full of these prickly leaves from our neighbor's very strange tree. Sweeping & pick of the debris is difficult with a broom and dustpan. In addition, I have a baby ... I can actually clean our yard with this thing while holding her in about 10 min. It used to take about 30 - 40 minutes with a lot of hard sweeping.

[+] 10.0 Really Works!
Ok, I was a bit skeptical in reading the claims from the manufacturer, but now that I have a SpinSweep Pro, I have to say it rocks! I run a kennel, with large cement yards, and gravel areas, with LOTS of trees. I spend hours sweeping up leaves, dog hair, bits of shredded dog toys, etc. and can think of better things to do with my time. No, it doesn't work on the gravel, since it's so powerful, it sweeps the gravel right up, but it's more than halved my time that I spent sweeping the cement areas. Not only that, but it doesn't leave stuff behind the way most brooms do. What a pleasure to find a tool that actually works as advertised.

[+] 10.0 Better than Advirtised
I ended up buying 3 of these SpingSweeps. My company has a large sewing department. everyday at around 3:15pm, the department stops production and starts clean-up to go home. Clean-up includes using high preasure air hoses to blow scrap from under sewing tables into the main ailes then sweeping it up into lager piles and picking it up with a dust pan. when you multiply that times 27 people, that is a lot of bending and scooping up debris. when we got our first spin sweep, they still had to blow all of the scrap material into the main ailes, but it cut the clean up time in half. i have never seen a trial product go over so well. i was immediatly asked to buy two more. clean up now takes about half the time and effort than it did before and the sewing area never looked better. this thing picks up everything. Major Props to Hoover.

[+] 10.0 It does what Hoover says it will
We received the sweeper about the time we had a wind/rain/hail storm. The yard, our 16 ft. X 60 ft. driveway and the sidewalk in front of our 70 ft. lot were covered with branches and leaves blown down by the 60+ mph wind, along with 3 bushels of crabapples from a crab tree next to the driveway and a zillion helicopters launched by a maple tree in the parkway. My wife, who does our heavy lifting because I'm disabled, waited until the mess had dried up and then took a lawn rake and gathered up the big stuff. Then she took the sweeper and went to work. It didn't take her a half-hour to have the drive and walk completely clean, apples and all, with no strain. She was ecstatic, because she used to have to use a heavy pushbroom and dust pan, which wasn't an easy job. If you read Hoover's instructions explaining what it will do, and don't try to pick up large branches or wet debris it will do a great job for you. They say something about picking up cans and bottles, but that isn't important to us because we have a rule around our house not to throw those things out in the yard.

[+] 10.0 LOVE IT--LOVE IT--LOVE IT!
The world's most effective dust pan!
Super lightweight and very effective.
What it won't do...it doesn't like "green" things, like clippings from shrubs, grass, etc. But it does like them when they're dry.
Emptying is so simple as the unit is lightweight. If you get fine debris in your unit--outside of the bin---just upend it over the trash bag--it's that lightweight!
I have a huge, long asphalt driveway and brick walk--cleaned both in a snap--and they needed it. If occassional sticks won't pick up, it will sort of push them into a pile, easily picked up with your hands to toss in the bag.
Didn't buy here as I found it cheaper (by a lot) on BestBuys website--even with shipping, it was less. Would buy it again in a heartbeat--wish I'd had it all summer. Looking forward to it helping me with the leaves.

[+] 2.0 Stop and think.
Don't try to justify the purchase because you "don't have to bend over." You still have to bend over to empty the 6 gallon container. If you are picking up dirt, it gets very heavy. If you plan to pick up sticks and leaves, you will have to go very s-l-o-w, because it gets clogged easily. Stop and think...$90 can buy a lot of brooms and dust pans.
