I love this House this is the best show i have watch in a long time. All the actors are excellent.
It's refreshing to watch a television program that isn't written for the "stoopitt" people out there in the world. So many shows lately have to dumby down with their writing so everyone understands what's happening. It's insulting and gets really boring for those of us out here who actually already get it all along...HOUSE is one of those amazingly written shows that appeals to the smarter folks out here. It has excellent humor and drama and mystery, and is worth spending an hour of your time watching because you're going to get everything you tune in for every episode.
There's a formula to each episodes, much like with LAW AND ORDER, but even though you understand how the process works, the endings are most often still quite the surprising twist that you'd never see coming.
The special features are great, but of-course, I always wish for more. Highly recommended!!

Awesome-est TV show EVER
It's all good. Yeah, season 3 is slightly better because obviously there's more eps. Season 4 is trimmed slightly due to the WGA strike but it was worth it. The season finale two-parter is fantastic.

Like the seasons before it, this is definatly a great show. However because of the writers strike it was sadly cut short a little bit. But its still great.

House is, of course, addicting!
House season 4 started out kinda shaky for me. I really loved the old characters, and to see them get replaced troubled me. However, once the season got going, I got into it and got used to the newbies. Now in season 5, I'm actually getting used to them. House is addicting as it is. It's a wonderful show, and season 4 just keeps bringing it!

Dr. House , business , as usual , maybe a spoiler (!) for some..
Season 3 ends with House sacking Dr. Chase , Dr. Foreman resigning because he does not want to turn into House and Dr. Cameron following Dr. Chase .
Season 4 starts with House without a team , which causes him some problems , which he does not notice , so Cuddy and Dr. Wilson try to strongarm him into hiring a new team . After a while , he sees the light , and hires a lot (!) of new doctors , Cuddy is NOT pleased . The season moves along as House eliminates one after the other , until the last 3 are left , as the new team . Also , Dr. House has hallucinations(?) about his old team . Dr. Wilson falls in love with a former applicant for Houses team , which does not have a happy end , enough said .
Only 4 dvd because of the writers strike .
Brilliant - from a massive fan who cannot get enough of this adorable character. Admired Hugh's work for many years and he is the epitome of a great actor. The show would not have survived without him. The other actors pale into insignificance in his presence. Keep up the great work Hugh!

Totally loved it
I read a lot of rewiews when I bought it, not because I for a moment actually considered *not* to buy it, just to see what people thought. I'm from Norway, and they're still showing season 3 over here, so I've been watching season 4(like the other seasons) together with my boyfriend and we both love it, love it, love it. Of course we're sorry there arent more episodes, but that's life, I'll never get enough of this guy anyway. Hugh Laurie, I LOVE YOU!

Four disk season four
I believe this is the season that the writer's strike affected. Although the quality is exceptional when played through a PS3 (up-converts to near bluray high def quality), there are only 4 disk for this season. I have the other three seasons and they contain as many as 6 disk ..... Curious that the number of disk seems to be independent of price.

Season 4 - Out with the old, in with the new
Season 4 in essence seemed like a reboot of the series. Season 3 dove into House's own problems way too much (but still very picking up). However, the series creators knew when to quit and thankfully their "reality" game show plot worked out well to introduce House's new staff. They also brought back his old staff so it's good to see they didn't lose great characters by doing this. Still one of the best shows on TV and definitely recommend picking up Season 4.

House, the must have season!
Every ounce of humanity House has gained in the first 3 seasons is lost at the start of season 4 - to the extent that ***Spoiler*** House uses a janitor as a replacement for his team in 1 episode, hires 40 replacements in another, and arbitrarily weeds the rest out throughout the next 7 episodes. Coupled with the only slightly sharkish 2 part season finale, season four of House is the best, most gripping, vicadin-popping, edge-of-your-seat season yet.
Buy this! Buy this! Buy this now! The "House party" only gets better in season 4!

Started off slow, but ended well
Season Four of House, M.D. was a very big shift from any of the first 3 seasons. Gone were the the old, and in were the new. The new team is far less interesting or engaging; rather, they actually take away from the whole diagnostic process. Despite this unfortunate change, House, Wilson, and Cuddy are at their finest as the season started moving on. The two-part season finale was, in my opinion, the best episodes ever produced. This could only be achieved though with more appearences from Chase and Cameron.
This season is far shorter than any of the past, so don't expect the same as in the past. The extras are not very strong in this DVD collection. I bought the DVD because I love the show and already have Seasons 1-3, but I would recommend purchasing the first 3 season first if you haven't seen them yet.
Not nearly as good as usual, but still worth watching.

The finale makes up for it.
I agree with some that this season was way too short and they probably tried to cram way too many characters and tried to develop them along with the old ones was a little too much at times. But I must say, I just the 2 part finale and that was probably the most chilling, well filmed and beautifully put together finale I have ever seen.
There was just something about those episodes and the characters involved and what happens to them is just so hard hitting, that many TV shows wouldn't dare doing this in fear of being "too real" for many people. (I say this because reading reviews of season 1 and 2, and 3 people complained a lot about House being an jerk, which makes this show so much better then all the rest)
So in the end, I loved this season, was a little short, but the finale which the bus scene, is some of the best television I have seen yet.

I own seasons 1-4 on DVD now. This 4th season is by far the best. The new characters are great, the story lines are fresh and complex and the season ending double episode is my personal favorite. The only downside is the shortened season due to the writers strike which left season 4 with only 16 episodes. Other than that I would have rated it 5 stars.

Writer Strike Cut 8 Episodes & Messed w/ House!!!
We love House. We live in remote area...no FOX TV so we have to rely on DVD season to season. We of course scarf the whole new season in several evenings starved for such fare. So how sad that FOX charged for a full season of DVD's the usual 24 episodes reduced to 16. That darn writers strike struck one very sad cord indeed here. However Fox should be honorable to viewers and charge a reduced price too.....meantime....As much as we love the orginal cast in it's orginal style...we managed to grasp the reasons behind the shake up. And once again House staff had us hating "the Bitch" only to have us crying along with everyone in the final episode when they killed her off. OUCH! This actress did one heck of a performance throughout this season. And kudo's to her and Wilson and House. Leaving of course a whole year of waiting till next year for the 5th season to come out. And what possiblities of intrique...Wilson will hate House and can House forgive House and will Wilson forgive House.... oh my what a cool set up. And yes I hated House in season 3 when the drug/cop thing made him about as stupid as stupid could go. But isn't this all part of the House Character that draws us in? We are now trying to watch the BBC sets of Lowery and Fry and Wooster and Jeeves. The last not so bad the first earlier stints a bit getting into. But you can see how House the actor has matured and honed his extremely interesting skills at pulling just about anything off....cool! Definitely an impressive and entertaining series that I hope goes on for numerous years yet without any further writers strikes etc...is House dark comedy or is it just me? By the way Bones is just not in the same class of acting or production here...the low budget directing comes so through! House could run year round and make a bonus summer.....Ok so the actors need time off.

House Fans Beware
I was so excited when the forth season of House M.D. became available. My husband and I are huge House fans. I was somewhat shocked when I got season four to find that it only had sixteen episodes. I felt somewhat cheated. Then watching it I felt that the first five or six episodes, while okay, seemed more like some reality TV show where House is eliminating his choices for his team down to three. I became more interested in who was going to be fired next than House's brilliant diagnosis' and bizarre treatments. Once House picks his team, the shows begin to feel more like those of season's one thru three. But then the two part season finale hits kind of out of place with the rest of the season. I felt like I had skipped a couple of episodes. I don't want to spoil the season for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I will say that the finale was completely unexpected. True House fans might be somewhat dissapointed as I was, but true fans will still buy it and watch it.
I absolutely adore Hugh Laurie; we go waaaay back.
But...what can I say, after the uber lame Season 3, and a few episodes of Season 4, things took a major shift. What was once a great - and funny - show about the darkness of human condition, simply became....well, pure "General Hospital".
So I broke up with House.
Enough said.
I haven't had so much fun with a show since The West Wing, and then they changed the cast aaaghhh why why?? why do such thing?, I forced my self to see the fourth season, and I still like House tremendously but, something was missing, it just was not the same. Someone please give us back the team!!

Season Four--IN BOX!!
I was very pleased to discover the new Green Box and the creative innovations within. For me, the Bonus Features alone are worth the very reasonable pri$e of admission! I felt that the homeroom class of 30 new Survivor candidates resusitated new life into the show as we had tired of the whiteboard's inclusion of (the usual suspect)"lupus", & witnessing for the umpteenth time a tracheotomy, (ugh) etc,---but now,new & exotic computer generated special effects enhanced the story of the would-be Astronaut. And there's comic relief as House's electric guitar is kidnapped for ransom by a terrorist! And that Cutthroat B____ (Amber) "has legs that go all the way up to Canada". Also, a beautiful scientist at the South Pole disrobes live and on camera for a physical examination by Dr.H. Doesn't anything excite him? And you might Not believe who has become a Stripper! As we know, the world revolves around our ever enigmatic misanthrope, House. The writer's biggest challenge is the huge research going into new medical conundrums. But our dedicated team of writers and producers are unflagging and seek out new twists & turns. Holmes/Wilson are the modern day Sherlock & Dr Watson ...warts & all but Occam's Razor is beneath the pay grade of our Greg House. After enduring their share of insults, Kutner, Taub & Ms13 were chosen as the new team & they are excellent and will strive to keep the life-support system working for our quirky and pugnacious Dr.H.and will protect him from harming himself & others. I would like to see more medical anomalies such as a new strain of Elephantiasis without a known cause, and a case of immaculate conception (which does occur abeit extremly rarely). And of course the usual soup du jour of cul de sacs. So what's coming next Season? The first 4 Episodes are to bridge the gap from the short lived Season 4 (due to WGA strike) & to tie up some loose ends & start new oddities, yet they will be joined at the hip to the Season 5 proper. Also, the perfect relationship of House & Wilson may be Doomed---stay tuned. But i thought that the death of Amber and the bus crash was incongruent and inexplicable and unnecessary. Alright now---all around the House!

Only Morons Rate Season 4 With 1-3 Stars!!!!
This is probably the Best season!! House not only faces new challenges but the re-emrgence of the old staff in new positions was a nice touch, as was the whole competition for the new staff.
I am baffled why some people think that season 4 was a disappointment because the original cast was sidelined. Don't get me wrong- I loved Cameron, Chase, and Foreman during the first three seasons, and I love them still. But Cameron was starting to get on my nerves (a bit to whiny for my taste) and the show needed something new and exciting. What is braver than scraping half of the original cast? Kudos to the writers for not following a stupid formula that has made so many good shows turn boring. How many seasons can the same cast rehash the same plots? It's only natural that House would eventually run off his team...how is that surprising? Plus, I like Taub, Kutner, and Thirteen. Olivia Wilde is beautiful and a wonderful actress- she's doing a great job in the role. Kal Penn and the guy who plays Taub (forgot his name) are also fun and wonderful. What's not to like? Season 4 was fantastic and I look forward to season 5.

Wonderful Season with a mindblowing finale wrapped up in a small little package
I personally believe this was the best season of house. Like the below author it was time for a change. The writers were very clever in creating the roles for the needed characters we were going to love and hate this year. Another great thing that happened this year is we saw more of Wilson and Cuddy. I felt that their characters werent being used up as much as house's team was. Which made me wanting to see them more and more. Seasons start out with all sorts of questions that arent answered right away. When the shows get good it is towards the middle and end of the seasons. This show never disappoints, every episode is a masterpiece that should be treated as such.

Clever and Entertaining
I've said it so many times before, and played it for proof to so many of my friends- that now all that remains is to carve it out here for posterity: "House" is the most clever and witty medical tv series ever presented before the American viewing public!
Hugh Laurie, who's British, plays the title character. (He played an amusingly droll Mr. Palmer in 1994's SENSE & SENSIBILITY, alongside Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet)- I therefore knew, even before I saw the first episode of Season 1, that this was going to be an entertaining show...
Season 4 differs from the previous seasons because House's whole staff must be replaced due to circumstances laid out by, essentially, his own idiosyncrasies.
This, surprisingly, hampers things very little. The sharp intensity of the storylines that has characterized this series- the conflict, heartbreak, angst and humor- does not let up for even a little while.
Again, let me just say that the availability of Unbox has made it possible to enjoy the past season of this excellent program most engagingly!
I have all of the seasons, and all of them are great by the way, but this one is the BEST. I love it because I can't always stay up late enough to watch it and I end up missing episodes. You can watch these right in a row, over and over!!!! I just love the the guy who plays house so much. I wish there were more episodes. One thing I always tell people who are new to the show is that it takes about two or three episodes to get hooked. Just take my word for it. You'll see.

I Still Love This Show
At the end of season 3 we were given the shocking conclusion of losing the team we have loved for three years. Foreman quit because he didn't want to become House, Cameron quit because it was time for a change and Chase was fired. I know a lot of dedicated fans felt this was a big mistake, as these were characters that we had fallen in love with and didn't want to say goodbye to. Season 3 left us with a message that it was time for a change. Let me tell you that this change was awesome. Starting with episode 1 of season 4, House is alone in his office and hasn't worked since he lost his team. Determined to get House to hire new staff, Cuddy sets him a challenge. Cure his patient alone and he doesn't have to hire a team, otherwise if he can't figure out what's wrong on his own, he must hire a team. House loses the bet and episode one ends with House in a room of 40 doctors hoping to be on the team.
Season 3, in a way was one of the more emotional seasons when testing his friendship with Wilson and testing his previous teams loyalty. Season 4 was more of a relief from that drama, with which some people may not like, but I truly loved. The first few episodes became a reality TV type show in which House would test his 40 possible employees and fire the ones that failed. Over this time we started to become aware of who the team would eventually be and what their quirks and personalities were.
I'm afraid I have a criticism for this wonderful show, the criticism is that it was hampered by the writers strike. I can't help but think that they had plans to have the old team re-unite at the end of season four. Unfortunately we wouldn't get to see that at the end of season four. I hope we really do get to see this situation arise in season five, although the team aren't completely gone. Cameron is in E.R., Chase is now a surgeon and Foreman is back and working for House already. This season, as usual was filled with the classic lines that it's famous for and below are some of my favourites.
From Episode 4: Guardian Angels:
House: "I can't ask the black guy or one of the chicks to do it; it'd be insensitive."
From Episode 10: It's A Wonderful Life:
House: "You talk to your kid about sex so she'll think you're open about everything. Keeps her from asking questions about the things you don't wanna talk about."
From Episode 13: No More Mr. Nice Guy:
House: "Run him for everything you can think of: lepto, schisto, hemo and the fourth Marx Brother nobody ever heard of. "

Season four - a drop in overall quality
First let me start by saying House my my favorite show, I couldn't think any more highly of season 1 through 3 - intense, compelling, funny, great camera angles, writing, just everything about those seasons is perfect in my eyes. Even today watching those episodes for 5/6th time, I'm still so impressed.
Season four took a drop, I can't see myself watching the episodes over and over like I could the first three seasons. Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer are no longer in the show (much, anyway) and all the great chemistry between House and his team is gone, replaced by three new boring one dimensional characters. The writing seems like it's slacking, resorting to ridiculous lines that feel as if they're only there for shock value.
If you're new to House, I recommend picking up the first three DVDs before considering this one. It is still a great show compared to what else is on TV, but it doesn't stand out like it used to.

Overrated beyond belief!!
How a show like this is still on the air is a mystery to me. This show should have ended after 2 seasons - now it has just become a parody of itself. Same plot regurgitated again and again - don't waste your money.
I was torn between three and four stars in rating this season. I am an avid fan of House, but I feel this season missed the mark in a few ways. Although "House's Head" and "Wilson's Heart" were brilliant episodes, I feel that several of the core characters (Foreman, Chase, Cameron) were neglected. I'd like to see more development of these characters and their relationships in Season 5.
I would have liked to see more movement with the original cast, than the addition of all of these new characters. However, the use of Amber was an interesting way to highlight House's neediness and insecurity and taught us something about Wilson and his relationship to House.
I would buy the DVD because I enjoyed bits and pieces of the season, but I won't feel good about the price. For sixteen episodes, we shouldn't have to pay MORE than we would for 24 episodes.

Breaks the season 4 curse
When it comes to tv shows, season 4 is usually the worst. Smallville, Buffy and Angel, etc. All horrible. However House breaks with tradition and just gets better and better. With the exception of Thirteen, the new additions to the cast are excellent. And Olivia Wilde could be good if they make Thirteen a character that isnt basically Dr. Cameron.
Also the last 2 episodes are some of House's best.

Over the Line, Sagging Badly
I have to preface this by saying that House is one of my favorite shows. However this last season was almost unwatchable at times. In the first 3 seasons we learned that House could be a real jerk, but we felt that underneath it all he cared about his patients (and about his relationship with Wilson) and that his less admirable behavior was more from past baggage and not from malice and inherent nastyness. His game-playing usually benefited his patients or forced his team to recognize something in themselves. We forgave him his behavior because the net outcome was always positive. (And because he was always right, ultimately.)
In Season 4, however, House is playing games just for the pleasure of watching the negative reaction. Worse, he is shown as being wrong in his diagnoses. This is over the line. I guess we're supposed to believe that he is sinking to a point where he will be forced to choose between his relationships with patients and friends vs whatever neurotic jollies he's getting from his negative behavior. But you can't change a character's nature just to fit your dramatic needs.
He does indeed reach a choice-point in the final episode of the season, and this is the best episode this year, but the set-up for this isn't worth it.
I do feel for the writers of this show. It's extremely difficult to keep a show fresh over 4 years (and more) and there is a need for longer archs and conflicts. Season 4 just wasn't one of their more successful efforts.
