Hate paying the HP price, but you can't beat the quality
Ink cartridges are, as almost everyone knows, hugely profitable for the printer companies who have even taken refillers and imitators to court in order to perfect theier monopoly. I used to buy third-party cartridges - and destroyed an Epson printer with a bad cartridge. The vendor, whom I purchased from before, basically disclaimed responsibility.
Since then I use only ink cartridges from the printer manufacturer. True, they are obscenely expensive, but I haven't lost a printer to them either.
The HP 88XL installs in my HP printer without hassle and delivers trouble free performance. The page output quantity is easily twice as much as from the standard size cartridge.
So, I hate paying the price, but I am getting what I pay for in this instance: lots of pages and trouble free operation.

original, low price ink!
opened the package got one 88XL unlike other reviews, and installed it in my hp L7780 and printed something out right away. to put it short and simple: same ink at staples and hp website but for ALOT LESS ON AMAZON!
This is a good deal on OEM HP ink. I have never had a problem with the HP ink. Yes, it is more expensive, but the quality of the re-manufactured cartridges are spotty at best. The Amazon price is not much more than the remanufactured, so it is worth the price.
I tried alternative refills for lower price, but all they did was clog up the printer and caused problems. The HP ink works great for HP printer....I would recommend sticking with the OEM in this case....they must have a secret ingredient....
I still think it's too expensive, though...but there's no real choice, at least for my printer...

can't get this to work properly
My HP L7590 is only a few months old and after replacing the cartridges that came with the initial purchase the new HP black ink cartridge is not working properly. I primt test pages with no black ink. There are no "out of ink" warnings. Then randomly it happens to print in black and sometimes each page is lighter than the first. I tried printing on "best" quality to "push" more ink through the cartridge....... unhappy customer

Amazon falls down on the job
Usually we can depend on Amazon to only market and promote honesty and be a reliable seller of product...However, in this case they have fallen down on the job, selling non 88xl cartridges as xl's or, in one case, substituting two regular 88's for one 88xl. I am sorely disappointed.

Fresh Ink, Quick Shipping from Amazon
I received my 88XL black ink from Amazon (ships & sold directly from Amazon). The HP 88XL box is new and the expiration date is December 2011, so this is definitely fresh ink, unlike the other reviewer who says the ink they received had already expired (are you sure you ordered this from Amazon, or was it one of their "other buying choices?").
Very good price, fresh inventory, free and fast shipping - usually what I can expect from Amazon.
This is my first 88XL cartridge, and I've heard from multiple sources that you get significantly more use out of the 88XL vs the regular 88 black.

Expired Ink; Not XL
I'm torn. It is ink. It is cheap. And it arrived quickly.
However...it is expired ink, which sends HP printers (at least my OfficeJet Pro L7680) in to a hyperventilating tizzy every time I want to print. It takes me 4-5 menu-navigating button pushes every time I print, during which the printer repeatedly protests that my override is voiding any HP warranty. Nice touch, HP. Once I get through that, though, the print quality is fine.
Additionally, instead of 1 88XL, I received 2 regular-sized 88 cartridges. Not the end of the world. But not as advertised.
So...overall...it's ink. It's cheap. It works...sort of. But it is a big pain in the backside to use.

Love the XL size!
I use these in my HP Officejet Pro L7580 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8187A#ABA). It prints out pretty good quality photos -- obviously not as good as my husband's printer-- but good enough quality to hand them out to family and students and for use at home and in the classroom. Having the right inks is crucial to quality. Black ink sets the tonal scale from light to dark in photographs.
I do a lot of printing and the size of these is excellent for not running out all the time and it is economical in comparison to the regular size inks. I don't know if they last twice as long. Sometimes, when I am doing research, I print out 100 pages a day just because I like to be able to write on things and make notes on pages. This size ink lasts a long time: I never believe my printer the first ten times that it tells me to replace the inks.
I have bought these several times from Amazon with no difficulty whatsoever. I haven't had any defective cartridges. But I trust Amazon and its attention to quality customer service and I know that they would replace any defective cartridges. So often it isn't worth the risk or the time to buy from another seller. I know that the same sizes can be had from generic ink companies and that empty cartridges can be refilled -- maybe for $10 each at a drugstore. However, in my work and dealing with photographs, having inks be standardized and predictable is more important than the savings from refilling black inks.

Black Ink Cartridge
The black ink cartridge purchased served its purpose and delivered a satisfactory result. The price was extremely reasonable for the HP 88XL Black Officejet Ink Cartridge.
This is the large sized replacement ink cartrige. It's genuine HP out of the box...IT"S NOT a refilled, re-sold, ripoff. Good ink at nearly the best price around with reliable Amazon shipping.

Works great with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper and Plain White Inkjet Paper
Works great with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper and Plain White Inkjet Paper and I've bought two so far for HP OfficeJet Pro L 7580. This time it lasts twice long because this is XL inkjet cartridge. You have to try it and price-wise it make sense to go big.
this add was misleading. the picture shows an oem hp ink cartridg but when i got it in the mail it was a refurbished one. i was a little dissapointed about that. on the bright side the ink that i did get is really good quality and works well with my printer.

Works great in L7580/L7680
This cartridge is shown on HP's website to be fully compatible with L7580 (which I own) and the near identical L7680 printer. I use it and it works great and is a good deal.
This product is probably a good product. Amazon is a good website, I know from experience. The seller is good. But twice I have purchased an ink cartridge that is too big for the printer. When the description says "Large", most would probably know what that means however I'm thinking large is exactly what my new printer is compared to the free one I had previously with the purchase of my computer. The ink cartridge I received twice in the mail, by my mistake of not reading amazons description, was an XL ink cartridge. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but when it finally gets to you, the size does make a difference. Perhaps a little more separating from HP and Amazon for the L7680 ink cartridges would help. Its a great product and there are probably a lot more users/customers out there.
