[+] 10.0 Kindle - what a great product
I love my Kindle. It is so easy to use and to download books. I would recommend to anyone.

[+] 10.0 If you're deciding on an eReader: Go Kindle
I knew I wanted an eReader, but was torn between the Sony and the Kindle. After watching a few online demos, I took a chance on the Kindle and I believe I made the right choice. My two favorite things about the Kindle are: (1) wireless connectivity and (2) nice, big buttons to go to the next page.

The Kindle has exceeded my expectations. My only complain is that some of the books I would like to download on Kindle aren't yet available. But the list is growing everyday.

If you've already decided an eReader is for you, then the Kindle is a no brainer. It's light, easy to carry, extremely clear and easy to read with adjustable fonts, and I'm devouring books faster than ever before. I have no hesitations about recommending this product.

[+] 10.0 Best purchase in my life!
The Kindle is amazing! I love that I can have the print small in the day time when I wear my glasses and large at night when I read in bed. I am glad it will put itself to sleep when I fall asleep. It is light, easy to operate, and the books are not expensive. I would reccommend to all who love to read!

[+] 10.0 One of the best purchases I've ever made
Before I decided to purchase the Kindle, I had read ebooks through PDF format on my computer. I was getting tired of being stuck to my computer and not being able to sit outside in the sun, or bring the book with me to finish when I went to work. So I did a lot of research between the Kindle and a few other devices that are on the market. This one won hands down. Not only are the prices of the books cheaper, but I have more of an option, and the ebooks I already had would convert over. Plus I could bring files I was working on or reading for others with me and make notes right on the Kindle. And this was all before I got the product.

When I actually received it, I was blown away. This piece of technology now goes with me wherever I go, and has become the constant companion of my cell phone. I love that I can get books virtually whenever I want a new one. If I get bored with what I'm reading, I simply turn on the wireless and shop for a new one. I don't have to wait to finish the ebooks anymore - though that can be problematic when I want to finish and my break is over. I work in a bookstore and still love print books and will continue to read them, however there are books I read that are only available as ebooks. That, combined with the fact that I read a lot but cannnot take many books with me when I travel makes this absolutely perfect. I would recommend this to anyone, and whenever a customer at work asks me if I know anything about it, I'm honest. Sure I don't want to lose sales for the store, but at the same time, this is such a great device, how could I not share my opinion on it?

[+] 10.0 Best gift ever
I just got mine this week, and I have not been able to put it down.
I love how the screen isn't a glowing screen, it actually looks like ink on paper. You can buy books in an instant, even get the first chapter free, to see if you'll like the book! You can even go on the internet, though, I still am finding this really quirky.
I have a teeny complaint, and that is that the page buttons are very sensitive. If you're reading sometimes you'll accidentally hit one of them and then have to re-find your place. It's quite easy, but a bit of a pain.
I have never received such a great gift. It's like having a library at your disposal! There are so many books to already choose from, and more coming all the time.
I highly suggest to anyone to buy the kindle book, or even paper book:
The Complete User's Guide to the Amazing Amazon Kindle -by Stephen Windwalker.
Yes it's a user's manual, but it's more! It helps walk you through all the tough stuff, and even some of the stuff not explained in the manual.

[+] 8.0 Kindle review
It is easily packed with my carry on when I travel and therefore provides a wide variety of reading material with minimal weight/bulk. The only down side is not having the automatic download available in Alaska. The manual down load via computer is a bit cumbersome.

[+] 8.0 Almost Returned the Kindle!
I researched the Kindle before buying it but obviously should have researched more. I bought the Kindle and tried to download books. Much to my surprise, I was unable to download books as Sprint's data network coverage does not include North Dakota. On the Web site it states the service was not available for Montana and Alaska, nothing about North Dakota.

Now I am downloading through my computer which works just as good. I look forward to the day when I can use the wireless feature though. Other than that, I love my Kindle and just ordered one for my husband for Christmas and it is on backorder until March 4. Now that was a real disappointment. I would recommend the Kindle to anyone who enjoys readng!

[+] 10.0 I love it!!
I love my Kindle! It's everything that they promised. Downloading books in only a minute is great! The library of books is also very good, with a lot of them under the $9.99 price of new releases. Using it is very easy as well. You can do everything that you would ever want to do with a normal paper book... highlight, notes, and bookmarking. I love the added feature of the dictionary and how easy it is to look up a word in the middle of reading. No more stopping and opening a dictionary! It's light and very easy to read. I especially LOVE the fact that I can change the size of the font so easily to make it easier to read... no more putting on my reading glasses! It's light and they've made the "next page" bars easy to access no matter what position you're in, which is great for my night reading from bed. The only thing I wish it had was a built-in LED light for reading in the dark, but using a clip-on light really isn't a big deal. I looked up the similar product from Sony which has a built-in light but I'm glad I got this one. The Sony product is more money and the downloads are not as easy.

[+] 10.0 Kindle
Great product, I bought two as gifts this season, both for elderly's who can't get out to the bookstore and have trouble with their eyes. The font and audio options are wonderful and the convenience of shopping in your home is an added bonus.

Would recommend the Kindle for every avid book reader.

[+] 6.0 Handle with care
I bought a Kindle. While the video on the "drop test" is interesting, I dropped mine about the same distance and the screen BROKE and is just black with some stripes. Amazon doesn't have any Kindle authorized repair services, so I have to pay $180 to get a replacement. BUMMER!!!! I like the Kindle otherwise, at least for traveling. It isn't the same as having a book in your hands and being able to flip through the pages, but it is convenient. It's also very easy to spend money - downloading books is a snap, and those $9.99's add up! I think either the basic design or the case that comes with should offer more protection against breakage. I didn't throw it or step on it or drive over it - it just fell out of the trunk of my car and now it's dead. $180 is a LOT for a replacement given how much I paid in the first place!

[+] 10.0 My portable library
There is no question that Kindle is an amazing product. This is especially true for the frequent traveler. Baggage restrictions and frequent and long delays make a Kindle an almost essential item for the weary traveler. There is little to say against the Kindle. Probably my only criticism would be the fact that once books come out in paperback the Kindle price is too high. Most paperbacks can be purchased for much less than the Kindle price especially if one belongs to a wholesale club. Other than that I love my Kindle. It is easy to see and read and the speed to download new material is amazing. Along with my noise blocking Bose headphones, this has become my new best travel companion.

[+] 10.0 Beyond fantastic
The Kindle is one of the great innovations of our time. I can't praise it too highly - for so many reasons. It's small, lightweight, totally easy to read in ANY light including bright sunlight, has six different fonts, illustrations are clear and clean, endless choices of books, magazines and newspapers at prices that are so low they will soon pay for the Kindle itself. This probably relates mainly to me but I live out in the country with a very slow dial up internet connection so having the Kindle use the Amazon Whispernet connection and completely bypass my slow computer is great. I've never had a book (no matter how long) take longer than a minute to load. Beyond fantastic.

[+] 10.0 Simple but Elegant
When I saw the Kindle on the Oprah Show, I knew that my very smart, very technical, educator daughter would love it. She did! She was so excited when I gave her an early Christmas present that she started it up immediately, and within about 5 minutes she had it opened, charging, and had ordered her first book from Amazon. She pronounced it very intuitive and told me that it was exactly what she had wished for several years ago. Next thing I knew she was showing me how easy it was to use and I was reading the first chapter. To me, it's magic! I'm looking forward to receiving my own for Christmas. I'm glad I didn't hesitate to purchase the Kindle. It's a quality gadget that's going to be very popular with all ages.

[+] 8.0 I Hated it at first..........
I recieved my Kindle about a month ago, and must admit, I hated it! I thought it looked very cheap and it was so frustrating to use! I kept pushing the next/previous page buttons. I even wrote in to get a return authorization to send it back! By the suggestion of another Kindle ownner, I took their advice and used it for "a week, then decide" So I did, and now I simply Love it. It does take some getting used to though, But it is Awesome. I have read more books in the last month, than I had in the entire year. And because of the cost savings on books, I have saved over $60 in the difference! It won't be long before it simply pays for itself. I would, and have, recommended it to anyone that will listen! It is simply the best thing I have purchased all year.

[+] 10.0 No More Bookshelves
My Kindle has kept me from throwing out the furniture to make room for more bookshelves. I'm a reader, my husband is a reader, and we both buy books. In our home there are books all over the place. He's retired, but I work full-time and have classes in the evening, so my lifestyle just doesn't allow me to get books from the library and read them before they are due back. It is just great to pick up my Kindle and read whenever the opportunity arises. It is also convenient to be able to switch from one book to another. I can check out reference material in one book and then get back to my novel without ever losing my place. And it is awesome for traveling. I don't have to choose which book to take - I can take them all! The Kindle is light as a feather. My Kindle is the most wonderful gift I could have ever received.

[+] 10.0 Best gift ever
I received the Kindle as an anniversary gift. Having lived with me for over 50 years, my husband was attuned to the fact that: (1)I always had a book on the bedside table, (2)I always carry a book in the car, (3)I usually have a paperback in my purse. Now that we are downsizing it is becoming more evident that we have no room to store our frequent book purchases. I can now carry with me as many books as I am interested in reading in one small package that is smaller than an average paperback. Plus, being able to adjust the print size is a true gift.

[+] 10.0 Kindle is great!
I love the Kindle. The variety of books available is fantastic. I frequently use the free sample option as a reading list. The ease of downloading the books is also a great asset. I originally purchased my Kindle in August. I have been reading books on the Kindle continuously (to the exclusion of most TV including sports) since then. This Kindle is a Christmas present for my wife. I highly recommend the Kindle to anyone who loves to read.

[+] 10.0 GREAT PRODUCT
I love the kindle. It is so easy to use and easy to read. I love that the books are easy to get and so affordable, but the down side is not all books are available for kindle use... BUT you can ask the publishor to release it to kindle. I think that the design is great and I know some people complined about the button use but it isn't bad at all. All in all, I love the kindle and would recommend it to anyone!

[+] 2.0 Beware of lack of available product.
Amazon will not tell you that they are having inventory issues until after they take your money. I would also recommend using upgrade shipping as Amazon feels the United States Postal Service is perfectly suited to deliver a $350.00 electronic device. I would love to rate the performance of the Kindle if Amazon could ever tell me the estimated availability and shipping date. If this is a gift be sure to order a month in advance or they will not hit the date. In addition they give the USPS a five day window beyond the estimated date to find and or try to deliver the item. Very disappointed with the execution after payment especially during this period in our economy - one would think Amazon would have their act together when people are willing to spend $350.00 on a product.

[+] 8.0 First Thoughts
I've only had my Kindle for about 3 weeks, seems like 3 months and thats a good thing. Love the concept and I'm glad I invested the money. However, I do wish I had waited for the next generation because I am sure there will be welcoming improvements.

I enjoy the ease of reading. Purchasing books is a pleasure, it's quick and it's easy. I can carry it anywhere and read anytime, having so many books available at one time is incredible and I doubt I will ever go back to paper books.

There are a couple of things I don't care for. The most important, the sensitivity of the page navigation buttons. There is little to nowhere to hold it without pressing one of them once or twice and then trying to figure out where you were. I wanted to buy one for my father who was very interested in it, but he lost the interest because, he kept pressing buttons he didn't mean to press or pressing the wrong buttons.

Turning it on and off is a bit of a challenge, especially if it's in the case that comes with it. I love the case and it is actually the only thing that makes holding onto it without pressing the infamous buttons happen a little less often.

It's difficult enough getting it to stay in place and then you remember the buttons to turn it on and to turn the wireless on are located on the back so then you have to start all over trying to get it to stay in the holder but now the page navigation buttons are active and you you will most definetly press buttons you didn't mean to press, etc... It sometimes is like a comedy of errors.

Patience is a virtue when dealing with some little but huge issues. I would imagine that like everything else one will get use to all the little things that need tweaking.

The page numbering system is not like reading a paper book, it is based on location numbers which don't seem to follow any rhyme or reason and hard to find where you were if you hit one of those sensitive navigation page buttons. Stay as far a way from the back button while reading as you can it takes you back to the beginning and I haven't figured out wether or not there is a way to get back to where you were, so I have to press the next page buttons many, many, many times to find where I was.

I'm thinking that the next generation should have smaller and less page navigation buttons this will make it hopefully easier to hold. The on and off buttons should be on the front so that once you get it to stay in the case it can stay there. These little changes would make it top notch in the user friendly category.

It would also be nice to have a light built in that illuminates the pages at night so the need for a lamp wouldn't be necessary.

What I don't understand is how the people involved in approving the design didn't notice the page navigation issues. I realized it within a few minutes of using it and so have many others.

I'm hoping that when the next generation comes out existing Kindle users get a huge break in price since we are the pioneer users of the first.

[+] 10.0 better reading
I find that this kindle dose it all. I have poor eye sight and the kindle is so clear and easy to use. The only concern that I have is that every now and then when I turn pages it will turn 2 pages. Might just be a sensitive tab. Over all I love this new book as I don't have to wait on the mail for what I want.

[+] 10.0 Owner for 6+ months - and finally reviewing ...
In short - I LOVE IT!!! I got it as a gift for Father's Day and it has turned into the best present I've ever received. I'm an avid reader and had been following e-readers for several years but never took the plunge. I was a "gotta touch the pages" kind of a guy. However, the Kindle changed all that. All the features (that are described in detail in other reviews and the product description page) really combine to make using the Kindle a superior reading experience to paper. In particular, I really like the following:
+ e-ink/screeen - the text looks phenomenal. Very easy on the eyes.
+ LOTS of books in one place - no longer have to take up backpack/
luggage space for lots of books on trips
+ TRY A SAMPLE feature... What a great way to try new authors/books!
There's usually several chapters that you can try for free for a book -
easily enough for you to get a feel for if you'll like it.
+ Quick downloads - Really cool to be sitting on the balcony overlooking
the beach and deciding you'd like to try new book and be reading it <1 minute later!
+ Great battery life - I generally keep the wireless feature turned off
(only turn it on to "shop") and my Kindle easily makes it a week (LOTS
(of readding) w/o a re-charge.

Is the Kindle perfect? No, there are a couple of things that would improve it, such as:
- REALLY needs to support folders so you can organize your books. Once
you get more than a screen's worth of books, it would be really nice to
have add'l ways of categorizing/filing them
- More easily accessible wireless on/off switch
- Smaller page-turn buttons - this is tough one. When reading I love the
page turn button size. However, pretty much have to lock the screen
before handling otherwise - almost impossible to pick up w/o changing
pages.

Finally, one tip that made the cover that comes w/ the Kindle much more usable... Put a small strip of velcro on the back of your Kindle and the cover. It makes the Kindle MUCH more secure in the cover.

[+] 10.0 I was hesitant.....
I was hesitant....I waited for a full year before ordering. I travel 100% of the time for work, and although I hated lugging books everywhere I was addicted to the paper....kinda like I was addicted to the "old" card catalogs at libraries. Well, I finally ordered and received my Kindle, and I AM IN LOVE! The convenience of purchasing books, and magazines, and not having to carry several around is awesome! The speed of the whispernet and connectivity are incredible. The dictionary feature is completely the best tool. Another great tool is being able to adjust the font size....how nice to not have to wear my bifocals while trying to lie down to read. Every airport, plane, train, or bus that I am on, I have people constantly asking questions and looking at my Kindle, and I rave about it! The size and weight are fantastic, and although I do miss my "paper" it is doubtful that I will ever go back. Considering the hassle of parking for libraries, time constraints with due dates, crowds at bookstores.....I have sworn my allegiance to my new "wonderbook" The sample feature is extremely generous....50 pages or better at no cost to see if it is a title I am actually interested to read. The price seemed steep, until I got my hands on the product, and I have yet to even begin to explore the other possibilities described in the manual that are available to me. My family most likely will all be receiving Kindles in the near future.

[+] 2.0 Bummed in Alaska
After seeing the Kindle on the Oprah show, I immediately ordered it. It arrived quickly and with no shipping charge, but...the wireless network needed for the Kindle is not available in Alaska. So, I had to send my wonderful toy back.
I now know that the wireless information is located in the online product description (if you keep scrolling down). Wouldn't it would be better service if Amazon would warn Alaska buyers before sending the product?
Couldn't an optional wireless internet feature be added?

[+] 2.0 Check the Whispernet Map First
I am so disappointed that the Kindle does not work in my area. I should have checked the whispernet map first, but got swept up in the Oprah mania about the device. Maybe someday the network reception will improve in my area, but for now I am still reading books on paper.

[+] 6.0 Purchased Kindle for a gift
The promotional material implied that no personal computer was required for the use of this item. The person who I purchased the gift for was very resistive to using a personal computer. We were eventually able to create a way that the product could be used by that person, though I am not sure that it will be used because of this difficulty. I suspect I could have been more diligent in investigating before purchasing, but I still had the feeling that I had been misled. Also, it is a large disappointment that pictures, graphics, etc. are not part of the viewable materials. All in all, I am a bit disappointed in the product.

[+] 8.0 It'll make you smarter!
I've owned the Kindle for about a month now; it was given to me as a gift. The price is a bit high, not sure that I would have purchased it for myself at this price point but nevertheless I am very happy with it. In about a month, I've read 7 books so far. It's highly addicting in that it's very convenient to be lying in bed, browsing for books (either online at amazon.com or on the kindle itself in the Store). The books (or free samples of them) are delivered immediately to your kindle and within minutes you're into the book. I've never read this many books in so little time before. I love not having to lug the book around (although I love books and the way the cover feels in your hand) and the fact that it's saving paper and space in my home are 2 major pluses.

The only drawback with the Kindle is in the design. I know some people complain it's a little awkward, and it can be, but it's something you get used to very quickly. I'm sure it could be designed sleeker, or more ergonomic, but this is the way it is for now. I found different color skins/covers for the Kindle online but I'm concerned they might affect usability.

Overall I'm pleased with my Kindle and the books available for it. When I find a book that's not available on Kindle I make sure to click the "tell the publisher you want to read this on your kindle" button below the picture. I would urge all users to do so, as it will improve everyone's kindle experience.

[+] 10.0 Gotta love it
I really love my Kindle. It is SO convenient to browse titles & then have it download in mere seconds. The only complaint I have is the book cover that comes with it. The Kindle doesn't sit solidly in there even with the stretchy band and it's not very convenient for reading. A soft (possibly zippered) carry case would be more effective and make me feel less nervous about packing it around. Gotta love it though!

[+] 10.0 Love it!
I have had my kindle for a week and I wonder how I ever lived without it. It is a great invention-so easy to use. I took it to the gym with me twice this week and found it to be much easier to read then the hardbacks and paperbacks I usually bring. I like how you can adjust the text to whatever size you are wanting. I am also enjoying the word lookup and bookmark features. If you love to read, the kindle is the gift for you this season.

After reading many reviews, pro and con, I decided to go ahead and purchase the Kindle and then decide for myself. The bottom line - I love using it. I'm in my third book and find it so convenient and enjoyable to use. It took about 15 minutes for me to adjust from reading books the usual way. Also, I am so pleased to be able to order books from Amazon and receive them instantly. Buying my Kindle was a good decision!

I can't believe I waited so long to get my Kindle! I really love this device and how easy it is to use. I understand what some people have said about the next page button being a problem but I really has not been a problem for me. The ink is so clear that I'm finding it easier to read that a regular book. I also read a lot of stories from the internet and this is such a great way to not have to print them all out or read them only on my laptop. If you love to read it's a must!

[+] 10.0 Ideas for more options
I have had my Kindle for two months and really love it. I like that I can read samples of books before buying them. The kindle is user-friendly - it is very easy to navigate.

I wish more newspapers and magazines were available for purchase. I also think this would be a very nice option for college students who might want to buy their textbooks this way. I teach at a university and know students struggle to carry all of their books. This would make their information easily accessible at all times and relieve some of the burden of hauling books around campus. I would love to have the option of having my all of my textbooks available on a Kindle.

[+] 2.0 Great Idea but Too Expensive
I would like to have easy access to books and newspapers. But at $350 the commitment is too expensive. Why can't we have the product at an affordable price of $99 or even $49? If the Kindle is as good and useful as the reviews say, I think I would make up for the special price by buying a lot of books and papers. Similar to what AT&T did for the iPhone and Microsoft for the Xbox.

[+] 10.0 Love my Kindle
I have had mine now for a few months. Yes the inital cost is a lot, but if your like me and buy a lot of books it really does make sense long term. The books ARE cheaper. All I can say is any shortcomings are totally overlooked after the first few pages you read. I have now read about 12 books and I dont think I could go back to paper books. Aside from the paper savings which is a big thing, the ability to have mulitple books at the touch of a finger is just wonderful. The screen does not give you headaches or anything crazy like that. After a minute or two you forget your looking at a 'screen' its just like a book page. I have no issues with battery life or anything like that either. All in all I just love sitting down and getting the kindle out and reading a good book, and can feel good about saving money on the cost of my books and not using as much paper enjoying my favorite pasttime.

[+] 10.0 Kindle
I requested the Kindle as a retirement gift & my friends came through for me! This is the most wonderful device made for someone who reads as much as I do. I've had it a little over a month and have read 14 books. Downloading the books instantly is so neat! Since retiring, my husband and I live in our 5th wheel (RV) and space is very limited. I was worried about having stacks of books everywhere. The Kindle has solved that problem for me. I don't use any of the other features of the Kindle yet, but will do so as time goes on. My son now wants a Kindle too since he's seen how convenient it is and he reads as many books as me. I highly recommend this item!

[+] 10.0 The best bookcase I've ever owned
I've had my Kindle for approx. 6 months, and the negatives are few in number and insignificant in daily use. The positives are many and significant in daily use.

I know that I'm reading faster, better and a greater number of books(ideas); because of the font adjustments, device accessibility and library portability.

The search and bookmark features are helpful research tools beyond imagination. For example, type a keyword and see immediately the context in which you've read it on the page of the book(s) in which it is contained.

And the ease of PDF convertibility makes the topical--- well, topical and available.

Above all, I'd much rather buy SD cards than bookcases. A model economic analysis would be--- Savings: book cost+bookcase+Prime Membership. Investment: original price of Kindle+SD Cards.

I'm no expert on the marketing of books, but there have been a number of books without Kindle editions that I've foregone, in order to buy Kindle editions of books on a related subject. I've got to believe apriori that the market will increase the number of ebooks available, especially in an economic downturn. Will I duplicate the paper books I have with Kindle editions? Only rarely. Will I continue to order paper books? Yes, however, it won't be many. From me, furniture stores, network television and UPS will see less business.

[+] 10.0 My Kindle is Awesome!
I love my Kindle! I delayed, waiting for either a better deal or a new version to come out. Now I wish I had bought it sooner. I did get a great deal anyway due to the $[...] rebate plus the $[...] rebate for getting the Amazon credit card. I have read several books already on the new unit and have subscribed to 2 newspapers and a free blog. I find that I am even buying copies of books I already have in print because it is so much easier to carry them around in the Kindle with my other stuff. I don't even get consistant whispernet signal at me home, so have to bicycle to our downtown area for uploads, but I am still not complaining. I just hope for a better signal in the future. If you don't have one, buy it now!

[+] 10.0 BEST NEW WIRELESS DEVICE SINCE THE CELL PHONE
THE KINDLE HAS MADE READING EASY FOR ME BECAUSE I HAVE MS AND IT IS HARD TO READ BOOKS UNLESS THEY ARE IN GIANT PRINT. ALSO, IT IS EASY TO HOLD THE KINDLE BECAUSE I HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY HANDS. ANYONE THAT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR HANDS OR EYES OR ANY HANDICAP WITH TROUBLE READING SHOULD GET THE KINDLE. THIS IS SUCH A GREAT READING DEVICE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE!!

[+] 8.0 I wish I could give this 4 and a half
I recently purchased the Kindle after much arguing with myself. (I truly hate the sticker price.) I can say that I can't put it down and that I can't wait to store my whole library on it.

Some things I don't like:

1. The fact that it's so easy to turn the page accidentally, it drives me nuts that I hit those buttons all the time.
2. The wheel is a little difficult to deal with also slightly confusing with placement on the strip, but that could be just me.
3. You can't reach the on off buttons while in case
4. The case itself, it does not have anything to anchor it on the one side and that terrifies me that it will fall out ($359 down drain)
5. It feels so fragile to me

I have made a little solution for the case I'm using the black elastic on the case as the anchor, it covers the wheel and view wheel strip but at least it won't fall out.

There are things I do like:

1. It has an expandable memory which for me who has over 300 books, I'm beyond grateful, once it's all converted I can donate the hard copies and save an enormous amount of space and clutter.
2. Wikipedia, gotta love it at your finger tips and for free
3. Under experimental, you can get some basic internet like the news, google, weather and a few more.
4. Whispernet, I don't ever need to use the computer to buy a book from amazon if I don't want to or if I'm away from home.
5. This is so cool, you can download mobipocket to your computer and convert your word and pdf files if you want them on your Kindle.

Overall, I really do enjoy this little gadget even though I'm still a little sore over the price. If I don't break it, it will be money well spent.

[+] 10.0 Love the Kindle
From one who has been an avid reader for close to 70 years - the Kindle has given me a new lease on reading. Because of a torn rotator cuff, I've only been able to hold a "real" book for a short time, but the Kindle has made it easy for me to read again. I'm currently enjoying Antony and Cleopatra: A Novel (Masters of Rome), a fairly large, heavy book, which I've taken with me on Kindle to the dentist's office, to lunch, wherever I go. I've praised the Kindle to everyone I know. I like the availability of so many books and the ease of downloading, the ability to change font size, the built-in dictionary, and so many other features. In short, I'm delighted with the purchase and the product.

I'd also recommend buying theM-edge Genuine Leather Executive Case for Amazon Kindle (Red)since it serves to carry not only the Kindle, but also a few extras such as lunch money, driver's license, credit card. Saves carrying a purse in many situations.

[+] 10.0 My wonderful Kindle
Early in September I bought my Kindle. It far surpasses all my expectations! I took it with me (loaded with ten novels) on a recent trip to Europe and it was truly a life saver. I was able to pull up and read any book I wished to read on the plane, in airports, in hotels - all from a small, easily carried, user friendly device. The readability of the type is also excellent. When I returned home, I purchased two more Kindles for relatives and they are each enjoying their Knidles as much as I enjoy mine. While the initial cost of the Kindle is not insignificant, the cost of Kindle books is much less than most hardcopies and the convenience of having your book "in your hands" in less than 60 seconds more than makes up for the initial outlay.
The Kindle is wonderful!!!
