can't get it to work with HP computer
I like this flash drive. It's pretty quick both reading and writing large WAV and text files, both of which I do often. However, for some reason, I have an HP desktop computer and this drive just refuses to work in it. The computer recognizes the drive, begins the process of downloading and then the computer freezes, the flash drive disappears in the Computer screen in Win 7, and then it's finished. If I unplug the drive and reinsert it, it recognizes it, I begin the download and the same process happens all over. Very frustrating. This is actually a HP problem, because this flash drive works in three other computers with a range of configurations: All Win 7, but one AMD desktop computer, one Intel desktop computer, and one Lenovo laptop. On those computers, this drive works pretty fast and always flawlessly.
So, in essence, the flash drive is great. Using it in a HP computer is not great (at least my HP model.) Took off one star only because of that. Otherwise, would give it five stars. With some HP tech support help, (tried once with no success) I may be able to figure out what the conflict is.

This is one of multiple flash memory sticks I have bought from Kingston. They keep it simple, they always seem to work so I seek out this brand name.

Kingston Data Traveler 4G
Works great with no problems. I would recommend to anyone needing portable storage for important files.
I had this stick for a few months sitting in a package. I finally needed it, I used it 3 times and it stopped working. I used many other brands of usb sticks and had them even go through the wash with no problems. This one stopped working for no good reason. I won't be buying anything from Kingston, that's for sure.

Good Storage, Reasonable Price
This 16GB traveler is the perfect size and is so easy to use, especially if you need to back up your home computer and don't really have a lot saved on it other than personal files. 16GB is a lot of storage anyway and I have over 350 music songs and over 2,000 pictures stored on it, along with my entire hard drive backup. Plus, you can fit this traveler in your pocket and take it with you everywhere you go. Very good product at a very good price.
It memorizes what we tell it to and spits it back out when asked for, not much more to a memory stick than that....

Has trouble properly transporting larger files!
Bought this product in 2009 only because I had previously bought a very reliable Kingston 12-in-1 USB card reader. To my dismay, since I use this drive mostly to transport large files (AVis or Quicktimes from my digital camera, anywhere from 50MB to 2GB in size), I found it be painfully slow. To make matters worse, for some odd reason, it has a hard time recognizing larger movie files once they're done transporting (I use a Mac, running 10.5). So what I end up with often times are a bunch of corrupt movie files that cannot be opened. Reformatting the drive hasn't solved the issue either. If I were you, I'd spend my money elsewhere on a more reliable brand.
I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend and I found this purple USB flash memory. She really loves it! good capacity and great look.
I bought a flash drive, and it came in the right day, and everything was alright. Thanks!

Happy for one month
The Kingston DataTraveler 16GB USB 2.0 worked perfect for about one month. Now the thing has just quit working, I've used several tools to try and recover what I had on it with no luck. With such a short life I'm afraid that Kingston will replace it with the same model. I have bought alot of Kingston products in the past and I still believe their the best. But I will have to read on one of the tech sites that they have a fix for this model.
I needed more space to save my important data and did get it with this Kingston "Data Traveler". It's very eazy to work with, you just plug into your USB and windows does the rest, and fast, it's also eazy to unplug tho you must follow the instructions. Only warning is that you must have USB 2.0 in system other wise you will experience very slow downloads and uploads. So far so good, time will tell if it's a good quality product, but like the rest of us we must wait to find out how good it is.

i use the flashdrive to back up all my computer files every 6 months, with this new 32GB drive i am abel to make sure all my files are stored including mp3s.
I put this on my key chain and the black plastic piece where the ring goes broke. Good 'ol chinese un-know how I'm assuming. That kind of defeats the purpose of calling it the DataTraveler, doesn't it? I mean, I can put it in my pocket but really, I don't need one more thing to worry about in my pants.
BUT, the USB part of it works fine, so...

The Kingston Data Traveler 16 GB USB 2.0 flash drive is not much to look at with its cheap white plastic outer shell, but it performs admirably. At approximately $2 per GB with discount/promo, you can't go wrong.

Some construction issues
I keep my flash drive on my key ring, and within a month or so of having this one, the plastic loop designed for thip purpose broke. The cap occassionally doesn't seem to want to stay on. Other than these issues, it seems to work OK, though sometimes I wonder if it shouldn't be faster than it is.

Great for my homework!
Bought this jump drive for my homework and it's great! Can't believe I didn't think of buying one sooner ... LoL Easy to use and easy to store. Will definately buy more as I need.
No kidding. This pen drive is really really slow. Today, speed of pen drives have become way more important than space since all pen drives seem to be > 2gigs offering plenty of space to transfer most data.
This drive is really slow. It took about 30 minutes to copy 2 gigs of data on to the drive. I did a test compared to the sandisk cruzer by copying the same files on to the cruzer, and the cruzer was much faster. Basically the write speed is unacceptable. The read speed is more bearable, but still not great.
As an example, if I open a word document from the pen drive, every time I save the document or word autosaves, word completely freezes up for a few seconds. Seriously, given how cheap these things have become, get a faster one.
Thumb drives sure have come a long way in a short time. I paid 12 bucks for this item at a local store, which was funny to me because in November of 2007 I paid $11 for a 128MB DaneElec drive. Sure there are bigger ones out there, but for me 4GB is sufficient for carrying projects and papers between home, work and school. My HP Pavilion DV7 recognized it right away, as did the Dell desktop at my college, it could not be easier to use.

Good product, Good price!
Started buying Kingston memory after San Disk failed shortly after purchase and company would do nothing about it. I own several of these drives and they all work great. Definitely would recommend them -- especially if you want to be able to get your data after a few weeks. Norm
I have used Kingston DT100/4GB flash drives for some time and bought 2 of these DT 1's expecting them to preform the same. They do not! These are MUCH slower than the DT100/4GB. I have just ordered 2 more DT100's and will throw the DT 1's in the garbage when the new DT100's arrive.

review of purchase of Kingston Data Traveler I
The usb flash drive arrived at the specified time of delivery and was well packaged and at a very available price of purchase. I was able to use the product right away and it has worked very well for use with my computer. I will be using it frequently for my schoolwork.Thank you for the quick service and delivery of the flash drive for my computer.
This Flash drive works perfect with all my school needs. It holds enough memory and it has a good price to it. I use it to transfer all the school data around and use it when I have to present something in class and its compatible with everything. i haven't had any problems with it. I highly recommend this for the price it had. =D

Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'
I've had my 4GB thumb drive for about a year. No problems at all. Just now, I pulled a load of clothes out of the washer and found my thumb drive at the bottom of the basket. I took it to the computer, plugged it in, and waited. There it was on my desktop with ALL data intact.
Can't beat that. Wash and wear!
I used to have the 1gb but I bought this one because, I have more files that I have to transfer to different computer in college. This is really helpful when I did my essay and project in college.
This one I gifted to my wife and she is very happy about this..
She is using it most of the time..
Till date since 1 year it's working great..

Unusable for DevonThink
I bought this drive to move two large files between my iMac and my Macbook. The files are in Scrivener and DevonThink. Both of them are packages which contain many smaller files. This drive is so slow that it's unusable for this purpose. It is easy to re-format for a mac, and I think it might work better for another type of file. But for my purposes, it's such a waste of money that I'm going to buy another drive to replace it. If you want a thumb drive to move Scrivener or DevonThink files from one Mac to another, don't buy this one. It won't work.
ITS EASY TO USE....VERY COMPACT..... GREAT STORAGE FOR A VERY SMALL PRICE!!!!!!!!!
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT FOR BUSINESSES OR STUDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Unusable out of the package!
A brief update to the following: It looks like this (4.0 GB) Data Traveller, flash drive is not usable with Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard), but it works fine with the pre-release version of 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Maybe the drivers need some rework.
I expected satisfaction from a company like Kingston - they have a good reputation to defend, from their RAM DIMM products. But none of my Macs - Intel or otherwise - running various versions of OS X 10.4 and 10.5 - have been able to mount this 4.0 GB Data Traveler flash drive. The Mac's Disk Utility has not been able to Erase it, citing "Permission denied" as the reason. It is looking more and more like I'll have no option but to write it off.
I fit 6 1/2 months of pictures on and still have room for more! Maybe the whole year of 2009. Wouldn't that be GREAT?
well worth the price, i mean its 8gbs. The only reason its not 5 stars to me is because the cap is real loose.
Hi,
I bought the Kingston 4GB because I needed something good priced and yet with a large storage size. I found this very useful for movies, music and other important things I would like to have with me at school.
I've been having it for about 1 year, and no problems so far. The file transfer is fast, the capacity is more than enough for me, and it's quite small and durable. So, I am happy of purchasing it!

Best investment ever
This was the first time I had ever bought anything online through Amazon.com, and I would say it was the best move I ever made. The Kingston Data Traveler 8 GB USB flash drive was not only in perfect condition when it arrived, but has come in extremely handy for my computer class homework. The best part was that it arrived so quickly at my home address that I didn't have to worry about whether or not I would have to buy one before I started my classes. Thank you very much.

Works better than expected
I have never used flash drives before and I really didn't know exactly what to expect but right out of the package these things are great. I transfered several files from my XP desktop to my Vista laptop in a very short amount of time with no problems at all. This is truly a great device. I give it 4 stars intead of 5 because I thought it was a retractable flash drive instead of having a cap. That is my bad because I didn't pay attention when I bought it. But if I ever buy another one I will make sure it is retractable. I can see that it will be very easy to loose a cap.
Great buy!! I would recommend this for anyone who needs a bit more than conventional USB storage, especially with how easy it is to stick in your pocket and go (very small!).

Doesnt work with Ford Sync
I loaded this with 900 songs and it keeps knocking out the computer in my car. Nothing wrong with the drive it just doesnt work with the Ford Sync. I reformatted it to fat32 and that didnt help either. I use it for other data transfer and it works fine. I have an 2 older Kingston 4mb flash drives that both work fine in the car. I have 2 of these and neither one of them will work in the car and they both cause the SYNC to stop functioning.
