[+] 6.0 Setup fails in Windows 7 but Router works. Abysmal support.
I'm running Windows 7 and the setup utility for the router gives a failure message and tells you to push the reset button and try again. Pushing the reset button and trying setup again does not work. However if you ignore the message, don't push the reset button and just start using the router after running setup it works! Tech support was unreachable in a reasonable amount of time. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. There is no firmware revision beyond what came with the router anyway (version 4.5). The router does work with my PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 game consoles so far. I bought this more expensive router because it is a name brand and I expected professional support if I needed it. With this lack of support and apparent incompatability with Windows 7 I should have bought the cheaper router at 1/3 the price. They both are made in China anyway. Apparently the hardware is good but the setup software, firmware and tech support are abysmal.

This was so easy to set up, my totally non-tech spouse did it in less than 5 minutes. Priced right, does a great job and super easy application.
The perfect product!

[+] 10.0 Perfect router
When I got this, I did feel like I was in over my head due to the fact I never hooked anything like this up to my machines. I have to say, it was super easy to hook up. It just took a few a minutes to rearange the cables and get back online. Works fine for me and very happy with it.

[+] 8.0 Easy setup, performance is very good
I have two networked PC's, a printer, and Verizon Expander as well as a laptop and Xbox 360. I currently use the Linksys WRT54GL Wireless G router without problems. But I needed more than four ports to use DirectTV's Video on Demand and allow for expansion. I purchased this product to place in front of the wireless router. The setup required some searching on Linksys's support site to get the connections and setup correct. I placed the Ethernet cable from the RoadRunner modem into this router. Port 1 cable went to Port 1 of the Wireless Router. Port 2 & 3 for the PC's, port 4 for the printer. Port 2 on the Wireless Router for the Expander, Port 3 for the DirectTV and Port 4 available. After getting everything setup, it has worked perfectly. I did have a problem with the CD included for installation but like I said, the support site provided the needed information.

[+] 10.0 Works with Windows 7
I recently purchased a rather well used version of this router, and although it was my first router, setup was straightforward. Granted, I had to download the quick-start guide from LinkSys, since no documentation came with the used version. But following those instructions, using Windows 7, I was able to easily set up a network with several computers and internet access. Though it's clearly old and well used, I'm happy with its speedy internet performance. A great product, by my experience.

[+] 8.0 product works, but delivery was not great
The product itself shipped late, but I was notified rather quickly that it would be late. But when it did finally arrive the box was rather smashed and I was surprised that it worked properly. I'm not sure if this a shipper complaint or a postage complaint, but either way, that was the most negative thing about it and this seller that I encountered.

[+] 2.0 Don't buy this router
The first one of these I had for 9 months. My internet speed started going slower and slower. I had my ISP provider out several times to check the line, speed was fine. Never thought it might be the router, until I read several review on this piece of equipment. The router just went out, so I bought another one. Worked great for 10 minutes. Now I have no internet connection unless I hook my PC directly up the the DSL modem. This is going back to the store and I'll never buy another Linksys router/switch/hub again.

[+] 2.0 The router that eats connections
I had an internet connection, this router chewed it up and demolished it, am returning it now. The set-up disk would never get beyond 99% complete, the PC could never detect the device, we plugged the old router back in and lo and behold I am here returning my product and reviewing the crap I'm sending back. It even came dusty out of the box, how messed up is that?

[+] 8.0 Great ... once you can get it hooked up right

First off, I have to admit that I'm an intermediate (at best) user. Far from a newbie (I started back in the pre-DOS days with a Kaypro!) but I have been left in the dust in recent years.

I have been using an older version of this same model router for 7+ years and found it incapable of handling my ISP's hi-speeds. I was clocking only up to about 5-8 Mbps download (my ISP supposed to deliver up to 20 Mbps).

The good news is that once I managed to get this new version up and running (about 2 hours and 3 phone calls), it was fantastic. I'm getting 16-18 Mbps over most test servers.

The bad news is that it wasn't as simple to install it as I'd hoped. First, I connected everything EXACTLY as the Wizard instructed. When it came to configure my router, it said it could not detect a router. I tried again. It said it could not configure the router. I tried again and again. I called my ISP to make sure the internet type, etc., was correct.

Then I called Linksys and got their call center in the Phillipines. The first customer service person I called was very friendly but told me I'd need to connect directly to the modem so I could configure the router manually. Since I was having a bit of trouble doing that, I got a case number and told her I'd call tech support back.

I managed to get online by bypassing the router altogether and called Linksys back. I got a guy whose accent was so thick I had trouble understanding him. He was rude and impatient. He told me the advice the first person gave was wrong -- that I had to be connected to the router in order to manually change its settings (which is, I have to admit, the correct info).

When I had a little delay in reconnecting the cables (with him waiting impatiently on the line), he asked me how many cables I had. I told him I had a cable from the computer to the router and one from the router to the modem. He asked again, with clear impatience in his voice, how many cables I had. I repeated my answer. Then he said it would be best is they did a remote hookup to make the changes to my computer. I do not feel comfortable with that but, reluctantly agreed. Then he told me they'd be an extra charge for the service.

I said NO, that I needed him to help me install the router. Well, I'm not saying he hung up on me, but the line went dead at that point. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Anyway, I kept fiddling around, using different cables (NOT the one that came with the router) and giving my cable modem time to reset itself (that may have been the key, I don't know).

Suddenly, everything was working!!!! I'm so happy with the performance that I'm like a new mother who immediately forgets the pain of childbirth. I have a healthy 16 Mbps connection and can easily dismiss the labor pains.

So, bottom line is that the router itself is excellent but the documentation and customer service stink.

Tried to download firmware from Linksys as I was unable to connect through the internet with it after asking the tech guys at Verizon about the problem and they say it's something about the router that is not working. I tried to download the firmware, but it lead to a dead link.

[+] 10.0 One hiccup, otherwise fine
I've had this router/switch for a couple of months and it does the job. Very easy setup for Mac (although I had to call tech support, as the manual only addresses PCs). The device serves my computer, Netflix Roku player and Xbox console. One time the signal stopped and I had to unplug/plug in the device to reset it. Then I found out there's a reset button in the back of the router. A friend said it's not unusual to do an occasional reset. But that was the only one so far.

[+] 4.0 Linksys BEFsr41 v4
I picked up this wired router a awhile back and after about 6 months of putting up with its crap I ditched it for a Netgear, which has preformed flawlessly under the same conditions for the last 6 months.

The Good: The hardware itself preformed admirably under MOST conditions; throughput was good and reliable, internet speeds remained high even with large amounts of traffic over the LAN, setup was very easy and the kit came with everything you would need to connect it to a computer (no skimping out on the Cat-5 cable like some companies do).

The Bad: The firmware is garbage, as a result this modem can not handle bittorrent traffic, multi-party video chat or any other kind of traffic that requires sending/receiving data from many different outside connections. It goes into a reboot cycle every time. I asked all over the Linksys web site and talked to forum users and costumer service people alike, the final answer I got was that its related to the router firmware and until Linksys fixes it its gonna stay broke. I did all the standard hoodoo garbage they recommend, tinkering with countless settings inside the firmware, holding the reset button and cycling power, cycling power multiple times after updating the firmware, rolling back to older revisions, etc. I did everything short of building a shrine and sacrificing a chicken. So unless Linksys has fixed the firmware since I washed my hands of this dog I wouldn't risk your money on it.

The Ugly: While not a real "problem" the case of this router is overly large, flimsy, and ugly looking. It has a slightly domed top with 4 insets near the corners so you can stack multiple routers on top of each other using their stubbly little legs, something most people would probably consider useless. The case itself is also very pliable, if you squeeze the top and bottom a bit the case starts to pop off. Plus there are little nooks and crannies all over to catch and show off dust. Coupled with its patented "doesn't match anything" two tone blue and black color scheme and cheese grader vent holes covering large areas of both its top and bottom it is not a fun piece of hardware to look at.

To summarize its faults: Its ugly, a pain to clean, larger than it needs to be, flimsy, poorly supported and doesn't work for half the stuff I need it to do. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because it was cheap and the hardware itself is solid. I've used Linksys products in the past and they used to be good quality for the money, now they are crippled by poor software. Clean that up and get a styling team that didn't flunk out of design school and they could easily be making 4 star products again.

[+] 8.0 Good Router - Poor Documentation
First of all, this router works great. I now have all my computers connected to my DSL connection. I no longer have to disconnect one cable to install it into a different computer for Internet access. It was easy to wire my computers to this router. I have not noticed any decrease in speed on my Internet connection.

The problem was setting up the router's firmware. My best guess is that Linksys expects you to connect this router to a cable company modem instead of a DSL modem. In order to connect to a DSL modem, you must change the router's address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. Be sure your DSL modem is not connected to the router when you do this.

I could not find this information on the CD that came with the router. I had to go to the Linksys website for this information.

Overall, I do recommend this router.

[+] 2.0 Worst support ever
I bought this router and it worked flawlessly for about 6 months. Then it began to drop the connection occassionally. After about a year it started to drop more than it worked. I searched Linksys forums and the Linksys website and found a firmware upgrade that specifically addressed my problem. Yes, I was careful to follow instructions and the upgrade was successful. Well, after doing the upgrade, the router failed completely. After 4 hours of trying to get it working again, I called support.

I explained my situation and after turning several pages of his manual and repeating things I had already tried (I was VERY cooperative and friendly), the agent had the nerve to tell me that the reason the router failed was because when I upgraded the firmware, I skipped a level (went from ver 2 to ver 4). He blamed me and said it would not be covered under warranty. I asked him to point me to where there was a warning/documentation about upgrading the firmware in this way, and he could not. He also refused to pass me to a supervisor.

Linksys has lost a customer for life. I have enjoyed my D-Link thoroughly.

[+] 2.0 Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll work on the first try for you...
I give this product 5 stars because it works pretty well. I give it -4 stars because it took 2.5 weeks to get it to work. I read all of the mixed reviews before ordering the BEFSR41 router, but my coworker assured me that this was the one to get. I was told that you just plug it in and it works.
When I received the thing from Amazon, I inserted the CD that it says to insert before doing anything else, and I followed the onscreen instructions. At the last step, where I assume the software configures the router, it gave the error message, "router not found." So, I repeated the instructions more than once but with the same end result. I'm not a network guy, so I didn't know how to make this thing work off the top of my head. I consulted my coworker who gave me a convoluted set of instructions, and I read a few forum posts whose solutions were vaguely comparable. After trying all these ideas, and after all the aggravation and frustration, the router still didn't work.
In the end (two and a half weeks later), I found another article that suggested something I hadn't tried yet. What finally made this thing work was getting into the web-browser interface where you can adjust the settings for the router, and simply clicking on the "Clone the PC's MAC address" button. After saving the settings, the thing began working like a champ.
So, that's what worked for me. From what I read, it could be different for other people, depending on the setup. I have 2 PCs and an Xbox 360 plugged into the router and everything works fine now. I'm surprised that a big company like Cisco would market a product that's so hard to make work. There isn't even a paper manual for the router. You have to explore the installation CD for the pdf manual. Who wants to read or flip back and forth through a 70 page document on their laptop? Maybe it's my fault that I didn't call support, but I didn't feel like getting the runaround, and I didn't want to go changing a bunch of settings on the PC to make the thing work. Overall, 1/5 stars.

We owned one of these routers for 4 years, and it was perfect. The item was easy to set up and never failed. We stopped using it only when we acquired a new IP provider that sent us a router and modem, all-in-one. Which, by the way, is not as good.

[+] 2.0 After 2 I give up
I'm attempting to put a dent in the ratings and persuade others not to buy this product. I've had 2 of these, replaced the initial one a year ago after talking to Linksys and determining that it had malfunctioned. I purchased a D-link EBR-2310 a month ago and after installing it (5 minutes) I haven't touched it. The second Linksys I had to reboot every few days, sometimes twice a day. My fastest internet speed tests were plus 10Mb, and after a day or so my bandwidth would degrade and come to a crawl (300Kb). It was so frustrating.

The Linksys wave has crashed, get on a different one. I've gone through 2 Access Points, 2 Range Extenders and now 2 Routers by Linksys. I'm fed up with their products.

[+] 2.0 THIS ROUTER IS GARBAGE!!!
Just got off of the Linksys "customer no-service". What an unbelievable waste of time. This should have been a pretty simple installation given that I have only one desktop computer and am not looking to go wireless. I started the enclosed CD and followed the instructions. The last step is a "system check" and the router "was not located". So, I unplugged everything and started the instructions again just to make sure. Still, no router was detected. I called customer no-service and they have me double-check that I can get onto the internet without the router - no problem, everything works fine. I follow the technician's instructions and did a manual installation and still no router detected and no internet. Fast forward about an hour and they are still having me run the same idiotic tests while getting the same idiotic results - I think that it was Einstein that said, "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results". Finally, the technician states that the problem must be with my computer and that I should call the computer manufacturer, to which I replied, "how could it be a problem with my computer when I can get onto the internet just fine when the router is not connected, and as soon as I connect the router, there is no internet access?" She finally admitted that the problem was with the router and that I should take it back and get a replacement. Yeah, right, I'll replace it with a NetGear router this time. Save yourself the time and money asn skip this peice of garbage.

[+] 4.0 Buyer Beware
This router does a fine job distributing the internet to my many PC's, Media Extenders, etc on my wired network. Hoewever, none of my PC's could see each other when I installed this (they could with the old router). Linksys support was useless, saying that internet distribution is the router's job, and I should see Microsoft about my computers. I wrote this purchase off and reinstalled my old (before the Cisco acquisition) Linksys router (same model number, but earlier firmware version). Now all my computers see each other and my DHCP table is full. Buy another router if in this situation.

[+] 2.0 Never again....
I bought a Linksys 4-port wired router (Befsr41ver4.1) at the beginning of 07. Setup was a breeze, just plug it in and go literally. The utility disc that was enclosed didn't even work properly. You could get up to the point where it asked you to log in to the router and that was it, it would not take the pre-configured username and password. Warning sign #1. After about a year my wife and I were playing FFXI one night and it crashed the connection we couldn't get back on for days. After getting that taken care of the PC would connect through the router but the PS2 would not. I try to get to the router set-up page through my web browser like it tells me to, no luck can't navigate to it at all. Warning #2. I call Linksys customer support and find out I need to port forward and to even garner that much info I had to pay for a warrenty extension $29.95 out the window.

I send repeated E-mails to Square-Enix for the port numbers I need to configure, 16 days later and an all nighter to catch a live tech support rep becaues SE dont answer e-mails obviously. I get my numbers get on the phone with the support from Linksys, give them my case number and find out I have to pay an ADDITIONAL 29.95, extended warrenty only good for 15 days, they failed to mention that tidbit of important information.
6 hours later with the tech support and I get my router back online and all is right with the world.

That was 5 monthes ago as I'm writing this I am direct connect to my DSL modem that router fouled out again. I still cannot access the set-up page through my browser window. I call linksys and they want another 29.95 or I'm out of luck, I tell them to shov^ it. I will not reccomend this thing to anybody even though it lasted a over a year-ish its been nothing but trouble.

[+] 10.0 Super easy setup
Extremely easy to set up. I had used a wireless router previously, but found I was sensitive to the radio waves (sounded like high-pitched buzzing) and bought this all-wired router instead. When I tried to unplug and replug the new router to further cut down on EMFs during the night, it had trouble reinitializing, but Linksys Tech Support was very helpful in setting up some custom, manual settings to prevent that problem. We are using it with one PC and two Macs, and have no issues with it now.

[+] 10.0 Reliable, cheap, secure, flexible .....
I bought this wireless router for use with my RoadRunner cable services. I work from home and run a variety of network intensive tasks, throw in a wife and a Wii and this router has taken care of everything with only a minor quirk or two all year.

At home my network consists of CentOS 5.2 servers, a Windows Vista Home Premium Desktop, two Vista laptops (Business and Home Premium), a MacBook, a Windows XP machine, and Virtual Machines up the wazoo. The 4 ports are full, everything else is run through the wifi including the new Wii. I port forward HTTP, FTP, SSH, Oracle, and Terminal Services through to statically assigned IP addresses and everything else is making use of the routers DHCP services. In short -- I think it is getting a pretty good test!

Setup was a breeze, but that is standard for Linksys routers I have found. The instructions were clear and would allow an absolute idiot to set this up although I didn't need them being familiar with their other routers.

I live in a largish apartment, and rather than being in a central location the router is squirreled away in the corner office on top of a desktop and below my TV - not ideal I know but the coverage throughout the apartment is always at maximum strength, is as fast as can be expected and I am happy. I often play online games in my living room on the opposing side of the apartment without problems of laggyness.

I first turned on the router in July 2007. It is now November 2008 and it has been reset maybe four or five times during that period. Wi-Fi services disappeared forcing me to power off and on again however considering that this is a router based on home usage rather than a fully fledged commercial enterprise I can handle that. So yes, I don't get my 99.9999% uptime, but I think the five minutes this router has cost me over the last 16 months is rather trivial.

[+] 10.0 Slingbox Friendly
I bought this for use with my new Slingbox and it works perfectly. The only thing is that when I set up the sling box there was a IP address problem where the router did not have the correct setting but it was quickly solved by reviewing all the places where the router needed to check and match IP addresses. Moreover, it does "hide" your computer from intruders.

[+] 10.0 Newer revision works great!
I purchased this same router a few years ago, but this one is made differently than the old one. I'm guessing this one is a revised design because it works better than the old model. The only complaint I had about that one was each time I had a power surge (my PC line is connected to an A/C in the summer) the router would reboot even though I had the router and PC connected to a UPS and line conditioner. That's been fixed in this model. It still works flawlessly in all other areas. Easy to setup. Highly recommended.

This is my first experience with a router of any sort. It worked great right out of the box. Easy to set up and understand.

[+] 8.0 Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is a good product.
I was looking for a wired solution in order to share my DSL Modem between by laptop and desktop. This product was definitely high on my list as far as price and and all previous ratings were good on this product as well. My experience with this router has been definitely positive but the only thing preventing me from rating it higher would be the installation instruction. After several frustating attempts with installation wizard and failing I had to go to the Linksys site for help. To their credit I was able to find information that indicated that I had to change the default IP for the router but I did have to dig for it. Once this was done the installation went forward without any more glitches. Therefore the product is good but the installation CD and associated instructions...not so good.

[+] 10.0 Up 'n Running in a Snap
I purchased this router to replace an older Linksys router that finally failed after 7-years of uninterrupted service. I read many reviews that indicated problems with having to reset it often. I have hand none of those problems. Its been installed for about two months and I haven't had to reset it once. It has run and performed great! Some reports suggest it was "slow", but the only time I have experienced a slow-down was when it was peak internet use hours; thus I attribute it to the high volume on the internet and not the equipment. All this said, I opted to replace my old Lynksys router with a new one and found it to be reliable and responsive. It was easy to configure through the web-style interface and took very little effort to get it up and running. You should consider it too.

[+] 2.0 Junk
I replaced my old BEFSR41 that was damaged by lightning with this newer revision. I have had nothing but trouble with connection problems on the modem side. I've read lots of similar complaints on the net. I have the latest firmware. The connection to the modem hangs, and to fix the problem you have to unplug the router, plug a computer to the modem, do some surfing to clear out the problem, then re-attach the router to the modem. Ugh!!!

[+] 8.0 Security online with Linksys
I find the Linksys routers to perform very well as an addition to a secure home network. I connect the BEFSR41 to the cable modem then connect the WRT54G inline to create a more secure network for my sensitive computers. I can connect my server to the first router in the DMZ and no bad traffic can reach the machines behind the second router. Both routers perform fast and I can't detect any latency.

[+] 10.0 Just what I needed.
I had worked with one of these before.
I needed a router for my new home, and started looking around. Once again I find myself with a Linksys.

It is easy to administer, will handle logging in my DSL Modem (I am much happier with DSL then Cable) and has kept things running smoothly.

Oh, and I could not beat the price.

[+] 2.0 I cannot configure my router. I cannot have my ISP configure my router.
Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch (BEFSR41)
Heidi 28639 and another Linksys rep denied me help to configure my router, spewing forth a very long worded set of explanations stating that my BEFSR41 version 2/ serial number C2110f700813 is not longer supported. Linksys's web service has instruction which are UPSIDE DOWN in the "customer service" support drop down menu.

That is sloppy.

I had a Lynksys wireless router which broke due to Lightning in South East Florida. I liked it. I purchased another networking product from Lynksys and the customer service was so outstanding, I bought a THIRD product, this item.

I cannot configure this router. I cannot have my ISP configure my router. I can't access the instruction online as they are upside down. I was to hook up a Apple G3 OS10/Safariand a Windows Millenium/Mozilla Borwser. Both are Legacy items, yet both work.

This product had a high reputation, but I found out otherwise.

I buy and spend MORE for customer support, and do not want to hear wordy, bureaucratic non USA foreigners try to dissuade me from simple information. This review goes onto amazon.com, the Palm Beach Post and I going to purchase another product from another manufacturer, never to touch or recommend but dissuade other from using this manufacturer.

It is simply good customer service or not. Linksys is not equated with good customer service. My ISP was terrific- they couldn't help me, but they got to the point quickly.

I am attemting to return this product.

I have used many other vendors with much better customer service who are willing to take the customer's hand and help them.

This was a horrible, time consuming experience and a more than disappointing product. I wish that other's considering it may perhaps have better service than I did, and if they do feel comfortable, then buy it. If they read this review, they may feel that other reviews reflect other applications. I purchased this product as it was "plug'n'play" and easy to configure with another persons similar Legacy computers.

[+] 2.0 Purchase at own risk
Bought one at BB and, at first, it worked well. But two weeks later I had to 'reset' the router meaning unplugging, reattaching wiring, and finally calling my IP for help since my Quickstart help couldn't help cause it couldn't connect to the internet. I learned alot about routers then including resetting this router. Since then its been a continuous battle of resetting retuning and finally rejecting this equipment. On the bright side it didn't cost all that much. I would steer clear of this unless your into frustration and futility.

[+] 10.0 Awesome if you know the simple way to install
I bought this, worked for a couple of hours, got fed up, boxed it and was going to send it back. A computer whiz buddy of mine called, and in the conversation I mentioned what a mess the router was to install. He said this to me. First, make sure your automatically set up to get an IP. So, first, left click on the start button - far left side of that bar at the bottom of the screen, then again on the control panel, then double left click on Network Connections. Now, where you see among the many thingys (yep, I am very technical), Local Area Connection, right click on it. Then, at the bottom of the window left click on properties. Then scroll down to the bottom where it says Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and left click once on it to highlight it. Now, left click the button that says "Properties". You want to make sure there is a dot next to both "Obtain IP address automatically" And "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Then Click Ok, Click Ok again, close all of your window programs and ""turn off the computer"". This was the hard part and it takes far more time to write than to do it, as you will see. Now comes the really hard part. Unplug the power cable from your internet modem that is going to your internet service provider (cable or DSL) so it's totally turned off. At the back of the Modem, take off the cable that is linking it to your computer and plug it into the first of four holes on the router - There is a "1" above the hole. Now, take the supplied (pretty blue) """category 5""" internet cable and connect one end into the empty hole you created in your modem, and the other into the single hole in the router that says, "Internet" - it is kind of standing away from the other four that are close together. Now, put the power ac plug into the router and then plug the square boxy thingy at the other end of the wire into a live AC socket. Wait a minute or two, that's 60 seconds, while the router runs its self testing program - the power light will be flashing as I recall. At the end of its cycle, you will have a power light on, and the number one plug light on and none will be flashing. NOW, plug back into the modem the ac cord, make sure it is turned on and again wait a minute or so for it to cycle, reconnect to your internet service provider and then start looking for your computer, but in actuality, it sees your router and through a series of internal operations, connects to the router. Now, you will also see the internet light on the right side front panel of the router blinking. Once this happens, turn on your computer which will then negotiate a connection with your router and there you have it,, you are on the Internet. Least ways, I was,, and shocked to be so too after all of the wasted time I spent not knowing this simple process. Happy Browsing. Ron ... PS. I talked to the tech where I bought it and he said that though it was a discontinued model, it was known as a super work horse so his company bought a couple thousand of them. He had no reason to just share this with me,, so,, I think it truly is a number 10 as one fellow said.
PSS, You know where you found the Local Area Network before, well below it, if you are using XP and probably Vista also, is a Network Setup Wizard. This is what I used to connect my second computer, and Yes, you will need to go out and buy a category 5 Ethernet cable for each computer you are connecting. I just called tech support at 1-800-326-7114 and they happily helped me through the entire process on both computers. One other possible glitch. Since this model is out of date, you do get your full one year warranty however in my cases, I had to insist upon it as when she looked at the serial number, she said it had been purchased in 2005 and the warranty expired in 2006. I insisted that I purchased it, that it came in a fully sealed Linsys box and I have the dated receipt for the purchase. She noted it in the case number folks always seem to be giving out now, and said anytime I called, if there was any question, just have them look up the case number she gave to me. So, a full one year warranty I have from the date of purchase. I believe this is why a couple of folks were so angry saying they were charged for tech support. Yes, after the warranty period they do charge, as all companies do, but during the warranty, you can call as often as you like and there is no charge. Should this come up, you just have to let them know that this came in a factory sealed new box, and you have the receipt to prove the date of purchase. They were very nice about it. AND also,, you will not be talking to India. You will be talking to the Philippines. They have a Much Better understanding of English, thank heavens. AND, last of all, yes, it is a discontinued model,, but,, It Works Like A Champ, Is a Server along with being a router thus much faster connections for all computers hooked to it,, so,, what are you buying, a model that has a long track record of working great, or something new that may or may not work so well as time goes by. I take the one with the long track record that does what I want it to do, and does it well, and I don't care if it was manufactured in 1921. :-)

[+] 10.0 Quality Product
I purchased this unit to replace a Belkin router that had died. I'd heard a lot of good things about Linksys products, so I gave this one a try. Six months later, it's still running great, and I'm very pleased. It supports our small home network nicely, and allows us to share our cable Internet connection across multiple XP and Linux machines. It also provides the firewall protection I want for our always-on connection.

Since then, I've had to replace our cable modem, so I went with the matching Linksys unit: Linksys BEFCMU10 Ethernet Cable Modem. The two make a great team. I especially appreciate the stacking feature. It looks great and saves on desk space.

The only negative I found was that the version I received has only one row of LEDs on the front, as opposed to the version shown in most illustrations with three rows of LEDs. (I was hoping for the three rows because I like lots of flashing lights on my electronic equipment). Obviously, this is a purely aesthetic point, and shouldn't deter anyone from choosing this product.

Bottom line, it's a solid product at a reasonable price in an attractive and functional package. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I would definitely recommend this product to home and small office users.

Probably a good product, I'd read good things, but it sure didn't work to hook up our 2 Mac computers. Went through a headache with tech support but in the end it just didn't support Mac. Returned it and got a D-Link instead which worked great from the get go and hasn't given us any problems since.
