Its a Linksys need I say more?
I've never had a problem with any Linksys product. They are always fully functional at a great price.
Works well. If you use the setup on the supplied cd you may have problems getting it to work. I found that installing the unit into the laptop and letting windows do the installation works. When windows asked for the cd
then I inserted the cd but not before.

Fantastic performance !!!
I bought this Wireless adapter because the Wifi ON OFF button on my Sony Vaio was not functioning(Sony has become very cheap quality nowadays) and I was not able to use the Wi-Fi. This adapter works very well with my wireless router and the Sony Vaio and I am getting fantastic signal strength no matter where I am in my house. In fact I am even able to get "Very Good" Signal strength from a place in my house from where I was able to get only "Weak" signal strengths with my Sony Vaio in built Wireless B/G adapter. The connection is superb and data rates fabulous everywhere which was not the case earlier.
However, in case I put my laptop in standby mode and bring it back ON, I need to plug the adapter out and then put it back in to get it working. This seems to be a problem with the driver(Sleep mode not handled properly I believe) and is annoying, else I would have certainly rated this as a 5 star.
The card drivers installed without a hitch and I am getting good performance. Great deal for the price. What else can I say?

Great Wireless-G adapter
I got this Linksys WPC54GX4 adapter to replace an adapter that was 6 years old used with my Windows XP laptop. It connects readily and the price was right ... $[...]
Excellent seller with very fast shipping! Got it for a great price, but would not recommend this product. Got it for our laptop to take on vacation to Florida to keep up with email. No matter where we were we had a difficult time picking up a wireless connection.

Glad I bought it.
Had another adapter from Netgear that didn't work very well at all. I felt maybe my laptop was just getting too old and I just couldn't use wirelessly anymore; Gratefully,, Lynksys was easy to install and set up and it works and has been ever since. For a few times I had to re-type the WEP, which was inconvenient and worried that I would have to do that all the time, but after awhile. it stopped and now just works very well. So, I'm very glad I bought it. Not only that the price is great!!!

I needed a wireless notebook adapter and someone suggested this product. I bought it, installed the software, plugged in the WPC54GX4 in a wifi location, and everything installed and connected without a problem. How often does that happen?!

Costly service for Customer Asssistance
In order for the product to work properly, you must first have an internet service, router, and network setup in your home provided through your internet provider. Once ths product is installed, you will need to connect it with your home network and make certain to secure it. Should you need to contact Linksys for assistance, it could become costly. They have a start-up fee for assistance and it could accrue to higher fees depending upon what you need help with. Once all this is done, the product works fine. I can access wireless services at any location I visit without any problems.
What happened? I was charged but not have received wireless card.

Bad experience with this product
I installed it as laid out in the instructions. It worked for 1 week then when I unplugged it and tried to plug it back in my computer would freeze. I shut off the Windows Zero config utility and just run it off of the software, no luck. I tried to uninstall the software and reinstall it but it kept telling me I couldn't because the driver was already installed. I tried to run it off the Windows software, no luck. I even tried to use system restore and go back before I installed it to reinstall the software but got the same message. I quit.

Buying this item solved my networking problem
My problems started when I was trying to create a new wireless network at a neighbor's place. I bought a new Linksys router and installed it, but couldn't get my 2002 laptop to connect. Actually, it connected once or twice for a minute and that was it. The weird thing was, the laptop connected fine to my old (2004) Linksys router at my place.
So I moved the old router to my neighbor's place, brought the new router home, and spent an entire weekend screwing around with it. Despite excellent technical support from Linksys (the main reason I buy Linksys products to begin with), I wasn't able to get my old laptop to connect to the new router.
At first I thought the problem was with the new router. I even drove all the way back to Walmart, returned it, and bought a different model (I returned a B router and bought a new G router). Unfortunately, after uninstalling all the software for the B router, and reinstalling everything for the G router, my laptop still wouldn't connect to the network.
But then, on a lark, I fired up my old Windows 1998 computer just to see what would happen (I hadn't booted it up in years). To my amazement, that old clunker, with a 2002 USB Linksys wireless adapter, connected to the new Linksys router just fine.
That little miracle allowed me to narrow down the source of my problem to the laptop itself. What really threw me in all of this was the fact that the laptop still connected to my old Linksys router. So, I got online and bought this new WPC54GX4 card (and for an amazingly affordable price let me add).
After it arrived, I plugged it into my computer and at first it wouldn't connect to the network. I was like, "Dammit, guess I'll use it for a hockey puck". Then, all of a sudden "Waa-laa!", the card connected!!!
It has been working fine ever since and all of my networking problems are solved for now.

Solved the problem - was able to connect to the router (2 stars were from my previous review) NOW 555 stars!!!
my old review "I think it depends what type of router you use: this adapter showed 100% connectivity, but still failed to open the Internet Explorer, siting some troubles with the router! I had run the CD (did everything correctly), but I still cannot use it. Have to use my old adapter..."
EDIT: After upgrading the router and its firmware, this little adapter is WONDERFUL! Full 5 stars - just great! The range is amazing - I was able to detect some free wifi networks - and this little adapter was able to connect to them even if the signal strenght was 10-20%. Of course, the house network shows a steady 100% signal strenght (all 3 floors), indoors and outdoors. Very reliable!
I upgraded from an older, slower Linksys card. This item provided the faster response that was looking for.

no problems w/ a 2004 Toshiba laptop fr. 1st to 2nd floor
The setup and installation of this Adapter card was seamless and took all of 5 minutes or so in my 2004 Celeron-powered Toshiba laptop, whose own internal wireless adapter burned out for the second time in 4 years. Since i'm using a factory wireless-B router through Embarq that came w/ my DSL, emanating from the back room of the second floor of our brick/hardwood house, i was concerned that i might not get reception throughout our downstairs. There's been absolutely no problems. And the card hibernates and wakes up with the laptop perfectly too. It was a great buy for us.

Great for the price!
This wireless card installed with no problems. I found the range to have improved compared to my previous 6 year old Linksys card. I would have rated this card a 5 but I couldn't get it to work with Windows XP (service pack 3) auto wireless configuration option. I was forced to install the Linksys software to recognize the card. Once installed it worked like a charm. I would definitely purchase for the price.

Large Size - Small Signal
I purchaser this card to pick up WiFi signal in my area. I installed this card, which advertises "Range eXpansion," in a DELL Latitude and only get 8 - 10% on the signal which is insufficient to connect to the internet. My 9 inch Asus Eee PC picks up a strong enough signal with its built in WiFi (side by side with the DELL) to easily connect to the internet. Given the size of this card I was expecting it to receive a better signal than the Eee PC mini notebook. The claim of "Range eXpansion," is not accurate. I can only recommend this for close use to the wireless router.
In any case I would not recommend this seller due to their return policy.

Linksys Notebook Adapter
This Linksys wireless adapter is a good product. I have not been able to explore all its features other than to access the internet. It is indeed a great product for the price. One thing I wish were different is the interface to connect to different networks. It is not very intuitive and took just a few minutes for me to search around in before I figured out how to choose which network I want to connect to. Another thing I wish it had is a help/troubleshooting guide for the program. There is documentation on the CD, but when I don't have the CD or internet access, I am sunk with any individual problems. Those are the only two things, and neither has anything to do with its functionality. I haven't been able to test the range or stability, but it is a good product thus far, especially for the price.

Excellent results
This product has worked for me quite well. I use it on my work computer when I travel for business and use it on my home computer to help communicate with my wireless router throughout my big house. The only beef I have is that if it is not attached to my work computer, I get a bothersome dialog box asking if I want to send a error report when I boot up. That's my only complaint so no 5 stars but I recommend it wholeheartedly even so.
I have not had a single problem with this. Installed by the instructions and it started working first try.

Does not delivery what they advertize
I tested this product in a compaq 2100US laptop. I Compared the reception to a built in Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network connection in a DELL Inspirion 6000. The Linksys card had better range and signal strength than the internal wireless had, but not the advertized 10X faster and 3X farther. It kept the connection at 56K over a longer range but retrieving the web pages over the extended distance was like being on dialup. It was worth the $26.97 price I paid but I would not pay top buck for this product.

Nice, Reliable Upgrade
I found a great price on this item being offered by an Amazon merchant (brand new, factory sealed box) to replace my older Linksys Wireless-G notebook adapter. I did this at the same time that I upgraded my Linksys Wireless-G Router to a Linksys Ultra Range Plus Wireless-N Router. I swapped out the router first, and then the card. It wasn't until I installed the new card that I was able to realize the full power of the new router. So far, very very good.
I love this network card it works great. I think that it is one of the best. Ever since I have used it I have had great internet connection. It is far better than my built in network card. I would recommend this product to anyone with a router or any other type of wireless network in their house. I hope you enjoy this product as I am enjoying it.
This product was a replacement for another wireless card that broke. So far, it has been reliable and the signal has been great.

Very Solid Product for Business or Home Use
This product is a good solid, stable product that works well in a business environment. SRX 400 works well to boost signal strength and to give you that extra bar of signal when you need it. My mobile users with this card can routinely get a usable, solid signal where reception was poor before.
-
As always, I never recommend installing the Linksys application, but instead installing the card and then using the Windows wizard to install just the driver from the CD. I recommend using the Microsoft Wifi control and third party applications sometimes cause conflicts.
-
Again, great for home or business use. As an IT professional this is the card I would equip users with if their notebook was not equipped wifi or if their internal wifi was not performing up to the user's desire.
-
As a side note, I would recommend that with all technology items, that you install the latest firmware straight away. I suggest that before ever calling tech support or writing a negative review online. More times than note, a firmware update has resolved my problem unless an item was damaged in shipping. In that case it is not a poor reflection of the product, but rather the delivery service. Please consider that when writing reviews.

Up and running in less than 5 minutes
Being new to the wireless scene, I was a little leary as what to buy. After reading the reviews, I chose the Linksys card. I have not been dissapointed. The card was very simple to install and get up an running. Simply load the software, and plug it in. I appreciated the WPA passkey security settings to compliment my home network. Range is not a problem. As soon as I did a search for available networks, I picked several networks in the neighborhood, some more than several hundred feet away. I would recommend this product.

Not my favorite wireless adapter
I'm using Linksys Wireless-G routers with SRX400 with no problems whatsoever, but this particular notebook adapter caused nothing but problems. I could not boot any laptop with it inserted in the adapter slot. If I left it in the adapter slot and booted, the laptop froze. I had no problems inserting and using once the laptop was already started, but who wants to pull out an adapter every time you shutdown? Linksys wasn't much help getting it fixed and at the time I wasn't going to wait for new drivers to come out so I ditched it for the wireless-g USB adapter and have had no problems since.

Works great - for about 4 months
I bought this card based on its capability of range and speed. When I first bought it, it lived up to its promise. I got great range and speed out of the card. I could go waaaaaaaaaaay across the yard and surf the internet at blazing speed with no problems. It could go through two floors, a few walls, concrete, etc. without any issues. Like Superman. Life was good.
After a few months I noticed the card started to "hang". I thought it had something to do with my p.o.s. laptop, so I would just reboot and live with it. Another month goes by, and I notice that the card is not very stable. It stops working after about 30 minutes, but it seems to work just great at Panera for unlimited time. I once again chalk it up to my cheap computer.
Now, after 4 months total, the card barely works anywhere. It gets very hot when using it, and I am lucky to get 5 minutes out of it, at Panera or anywhere else. I tried it in another computer, same problem.
I wasted $[...], and now I am using a 3 year old slower Netgear card. But guess what? It works.
If you are wealthy, buy 10 of these cards and just throw them out as they fail (they work GREAT for about 2 months). Otherwise, keep shopping.

Wonderful product if your laptop supports it.
This is card is awesome! Thanks. I got it up and going and am using wpa. I put the SRX400 card in my dads older toshiba laptop and it is amazing. I went to the speakeasy website with the speedtest and it was amazing. With the srx 400 card in the laptop it was downloading at almost 6mp, which is how fast the cable modem we have is. The same speed my desktop DL from it that is wired to to the router... My Dell laptop (with expres card slot (so I cant use this card and that was the computer I wanted to put it in so bad!!!) and Dell 1390 wifi internal card) best result was 800kb, average was closer to 450-500kb. I never expected that much of an improvement! To bad they dont have a srx400 USB wlan adapter.... or one for ExpressCard slot yet. SO if you have a very new and or advanced colaptop, like the dell E705 or some of the Alienware as well as HP and others, make sure you have the needed PCMIA card slot. If you do you will love this card. It found 4 other networks my dell could not see! talk about a stong card!!!!
Thanks for the help!!!!

Great For My Home Network
I purchased the WPC54GX4 adapter for my Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook, along with the WRT54GX4 broadband router (for use with Roadrunner) for my desktop computer. I also connected a second desktop with the WMP54GX PCI adapter.
I don't subject these items to sophisticated uses, but for my home network, it is simply great. Setup was easy for all components, and I have yet to find any dead spots around my home. File and printer sharing is also easy to set up and use. The internet speed on all computers, including the notebook, is as fast as wired, and definitely faster than the standard Wireless-G card which came with the notebook.
The only delay I have encountered is when I use the Print Properties to change printing preferences while using the notebook or second desktop. After clicking the Properties button from the Print dialog box, there is a long delay before the Properties dialog box appears.
I have been using these devices for two months and have been very pleased. I have encountered one other problem which began several days ago, but have not yet determined the cause. The notebook speakers start to buzz whenever I insert the WPC54GX4 notebook adapter. Then, when I connect to the internet (open Internet Explorer or AOL), the buzz becomes louder. Dell is going to replace the port on my notebook, and I will then know whether the problem is the port or the adapter. Until then, this notebook adapter gets 5 well-deserved stars.
08/31/2006 Update:
Dell replaced the motherboard and Linksys replaced the adapter. The interference is still there.
09/27/2006 Update:
After getting no further help from Dell or Linksys, I just "restored" my compter to a date prior to when the interference began. The darn noise is gone, for reasons which I can't explain. The adapter still works great, and now without the noise.

breakthrough new technology that works
Purchased this along with a new Linksys WRT54GX4 router (the latest from Linksys). The installation was easy. And most important the combination reached areas in my home that my old router could not even come close to. In fact I can now go to the barn (200ft away) and go on line. This new MIMO technology is great.
I will never buy a brand new product release from Linksys again. Their Q.C. stinks. I am on the third WRT54GX4 router and it is the first that was not defective. I got it set up and tried my new WPC54GX4 network card(SRX400) and got a weak signal, but I had my second laptop with a WPC54GX card(SRX200) on the desk getting 100% signal strength. I switched cards in the two computers, and the old SRX200 card was better in either computer(both XP Pro). After hours with semi-English speaking techs, they came to the same conclusion I came to in five minutes...a bad antenna in the new WPC54GX4. So once again Amazon will replace a defective Linksys product for me. I had been a Linksys fan in the past, but not any more. Here's a link to a picture of the first router I got and its defect.
http://vowe.net/archives/006639.html
I bought the WRT54GX4 yesterday along with a WPC54GX4 PCMIA card for my laptop. My old WRT54G died after 2 3/4 years of service. Linksys will replace the old unit under warranty, but I run a small business and couldn't wait for a replacement. I also found the wireless link between the WRT54G and the WPC54G to be somewhat spotty with the wireless card not catching the router signal all to often so an upgrade was in order anyway.
I installed the WRT54GX4 router with no problem and found that my wired connection had better internet response although I know of no reason why that should be the case. I also tested it with the the laptop with the OLD WPC54G card and the difference was amazing. All of the dead spots in my home were gone, the signal was strong and the transmission rate was inproved. If you want to save a few bucks, but need an improved wireless network, the router will do that even with standard G product in my brief experience.
I next installed the WPC54GX4 card in the PCMIA slot in my laptop. Installation was a breeze. As expected signal strength was strong throughout the house and the data transfer rate was consistantly 240Mbps! To check the range, I put the laptop in the car and concluded I could easily keep connected if I were visiting any of the neighboring houses. The card also picked up a lot of other networks in neighborhood (most of which were not encrypted).
These are not cheap products, but they work and are well worth the money if you want a great wireless network.
