Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 / QuickCam Pro 9000

Are you looking for an easy to use webcam with great picture quality? Using this camera to talk to friends across the US and in Germany, I've recieved many compliments on the picture quality. I appreciate that the camera adjusts automatically to low light conditions which are common at computer desktops where these types of cameras are used. I also like the face tracking feature that automatically zooms in on your face. I've had some problems with the microphone and currently have a support ticket in about it. Considering I bought this for the video and not the audio, I'm still giving this camera 5 stars.

I haven't anything to add to the other reviews--it a great 5-star item in my opinion. Just be aware--it has a built-in microphone that works just fine. There is no need to order a separate mic. Amazon posts a little computer-generated come-on statement that customers who purchased this product also purchased a Logitech microphone, but the external mic is not necessary.

I have Vista 64bit. Set up was quick and easy and it works very well with Skype. I recommend it.

Personally, I find Amazon much better than Ebay. Keep up the GREAT WORK AMAZON!

We've have tried other cheaper highly rated webcams, but this one beats them all. Spend the extra dollars for this one and you won't be disappointed. It can be set to follow you as you move. Also my kids love the extra software feature that turns you into various cartoon characters that will blink their eyes when you do, move their mouth when you speak, and move their head when you do. It does all this plus it has better video and sound than the others we've tried. This is the one to buy to use with Skype and other computer video needs.

I've had this webcam for only a few weeks now, and would rate my computer skills as novice to intermediate at best. The pro 9000 was simple to set up even by my standards, and works like a charm. The low light picture quality is excellent and the people I skype claim that the sound on their end is great. If I have any minor complaint it would be that more mounting options should be included. That being said, the stand on which it's mounted is extremely solid and does a great job.

I needed to know what to expect of the camera when activated. I needed to know how to optimize use. But, most of all, I still need somebody to tell me what the button at the lens end is for???

this product has work exactly as it is supposed to, load the software, plug it in and it works, first time, amazing.

I bought this item for a windows xp system but ended up using on a windows 7. Just plug it in and its ready to go. Love it. I would recommand this webcam and if fact I am ordering another one for the windows xp.

This is a great little webcam. Was shipped quickly and installation was very easy. Use it for "skyping." Feedback is that I come through very clearly and with good sound! This is a keeper! Highly recommend this make and model of webcam!

Pros:

This camera has excellent quality when recording video. It works with Windows 7 64 bit, just make sure to throw away the CD and download the latest drivers from the logitech website. Even in extreme low light, where the only light was from the lcd, it performed good enough for the other person on skype to see my face. Much much better than my laptop's built in camera. If you install the camera software it allows for options such as face tracking which keeps the screen focused on your face. You can move as much as 3 to 4 feet away from the center of the camera and it will follow your face and focus on it. Very nice indeed.

Cons:

Logitech camera software installs itself as a startup program. On the process tree it takes about 2.54 megabytes of memory, idle. Then to make that even more annoying, they don't include an option within the program to "uncheck" for "Run when Windows starts." All they have is "show icon in system tray" which doesn't stop the program from running on startup!

The only way to take it off startup is to go into msconfig and uncheck it (RUN>MSconfig>Startup). Now when you do that, starting a program like sykpe will run it, so it is all good.

Another con is that this was really meant to be place on a LCD screen. Trying to stand it on a table, while doable, makes it very unstable.

My final con is the built in mic, it is horrid. Using it on skype, my girlfriend told me I sounded as if I was a 90 year old man who's been smoking all his life. Then my buddies on Left 4 Dead 2 couldn't even understand a word that I said. I really don't recommend using the mic on this product, you can easily buy a standalone usb table mic (logitech makes an excellent one for $20) and get much much better quality. Windows 7 makes changing the hardware being used for a specific purpose very easy (MS did a really good job on this one).

Final Thoughts:

I chose this over the MS Cinema HD camera because this one has support for HD in Skype. With the Microsoft one, you have to download another program to force HD on Skype, which being the process tree fanatic that I am, is something I can live without. I am sure eventually Skype will be patched to use the Microsoft camera's HD features, but with that camera they force you to install the Microsoft Live messenger or whatever the call it POS along with the drivers. Again no thanks. With Logitech you can choose not to install the "Logitech Messenger" program during the install process.

I bought this webcam for $46.99 during a Cyber Monday sale. So keep in mind that this review and 4 stars is biased by that.

This is my first web cam, and I didn't know what to expect. I know I was leery of having something that was too blurry or not good quality. I'm glad I chose the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. After all my research, this was a great buy!

First of all, the packaging that it came in was very simple. One piece of packing tape holding it together, and inside was a little packing to keep the cam in place. Then the instructions were also very easy. I had the cam unpacked and installed in roughly 10 minutes, and that includes reading the instructions too. After it was installed, setup was easy as well.

It comes with a commuications package that sends out invitations to anyone you want to share the Logitech software with. But, this is optional, and this works great with Skype and Yahoo too. The clarity of the video is outstanding and the photos that come off of it are just as good if not better (due to the higher 8Mp resoulution). The built in microphone has excellent sensitivity too. You don't have to shout to be heard. It picks up your voice very well and is adjustable.

The other features are cool too. It has auto focus, auto lighting, the ability to automatically follow your face and has other visual effects. There's a privacy setting you can put a static photo so you can still talk but not show yourself. There's video effects you can turn on that do different things like put a cartoon face on your face, or put other silly things. I like that you can move the cam around if you want to show something that isn't in the line of sight, and it automatically focuses onto what your looking.

So, I'm really glad I got this one. I got it at a great price and it works very very well. I'm 100% happy with my purchase and highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice inexpensive web cam.

After reading reviews for the best webcam on [...], Consumer Reports and [...], I bit the bullet and purchased this camera. I couldn't be more thrilled! The picture quality is perfect, theres a mechanism that automatically adjusts the lighting (which is great for darker lit rooms), and the sound is crystal clear. The glass lens on the camera makes a big difference in quality. Set up is super easy and self explanatory, and it's great for laptop use. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to touch base with family and friends in the best and clearest way possible!

I purchased three of these for Christmas gifts. I kept one. It is an amazing picture and so easy to use. We did not use the software that came with it (logitect) but used Skype. It is awesome. We (the family members who also got one)would highly recommend!

You could not ask any more. Easy to install and easy to use. Very good picture quality. Microphone works good. A little more expensive than the ones you see at the stores, but it is worth the difference.

After seeing the reviews about how the Logitech software for this product sucked, I only downloaded the driver and use Skype to control the camera. It was easy to install and easy to use. Great picture quality.

We purchased this camera about three years ago and absolutely love it. Key for us were the reviews and the Carl Zeiss lens. We love the camera and have no problems with it. We have since purchased two more for family members and recommended to several friends. We skype internationally a lot and have never had a problem using this with our Vista computer. Our family members use it on Windows XP. If you want a good laugh, turn yourself into the shark avatar!

I've had many webcams in my day and this one is the best so far. It has high definition capabilities in Fullscreen and Widescreen. This webcam kept me from buying a lamp that I was going to put in my room to brighten up the picture. It has a mode that lets you see in lower lit rooms, which is perfect for my bedroom.

I purchased this product so that I could communicate face to face with family from whom I moved a long distance away. The web-cam adds personal warmth to conversations that otherwise would have taken place over the phone by allowing me to see the person I have called. On this basis, I would say having a web-cam is great and a must when you can't afford to make frequent face to face visits.

As for the technical specs of the Logitech web-cam, I am overall pleased but as never having owned a camera before, cannot say whether they are better, equal, or worse than other web-cams. The Logitech web-cam required very little setup (I had the camera up and running in about 5 minutes) and can be propped up and moved almost anywhere (or at least anywhere that the cable will reach). My only complaints are:

(1) the picture blinks out (i.e. disappears completely) during conversations but this happens not too frequently and doesn't last too long (duration of about one second).

(2) the picture is sometimes out of focus, especially when the lighting is poor or when the lighting is not even

I also would have liked the software to support three or more-way conversations.

As for the "frustration free" packaging, I definitely recommend it as it speeds up setup and reduces waste.

Easy to set up and use. Impressed with the high quality video it transmits, far superior to lower end cameras I have tried. Adjusts well to any lighting condition, makes me look good, I like it.

No compatibility problems observed with Vista, or Webex, seems to work well. Logitech has their own software bundle and free sever to host conferencing from, nice benefit, but I almost would have rather installed just the camera driver and let the other applications do the driving. No option for that available. The free use of their server is nice though, just haven't taken advantage of it given my use of existing video application programs.

This was a gift that we bought for our son and I was going by my daughter's recommendations to buy this.

The father of 2 of my grandkids is in Mexico for the holidays and I wanted the grandkids to be able to come to my old law office and have a video conference with their father in Mexico. The father uses Yahoo Messenger 10 (I prefer Skype). Furthermore, I wanted the kids to have their conference using the big screen TV in my client reception area instead of a laptop. So I bought this Logitech webcam Pro 900 because I wanted the best webcam I could find to mount on top of the TV. I then set the TV in PC monitor mode and away we went. I give it 4 stars. As for quality of image, the quality does not seem to me that much better than the standard 1.3 MP webcam already built into my laptop. It is perhaps above average, but not as great as I expected given the $80 price of this web cam.

But everything else about this web cam I must give 5 stars. I love the auto focus, the auto bright features (where the cam adjusts to the darkness or brightness of the background). I also like the ease at which this web cam would mount on a big screen TV about 1.5 inches thick at the top. Set up on the computer (running Vista) was very easy. And Yahoo Messenger detected the camera right away. This cam also has face detection abilities, something you usually find only on digital cameras. Another feature I liked was that you can digitally aim this web cam without moving the laptop or web cam itself. In other words you can "pan" about 45 degrees left or right and then zoom in or out as you please. As for the LogitechVid feature we have not tried that yet but will do so next video conference. It allows you to have free video conferences with anybody with an email address, regardless of whether they have Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype etc. Basically you type in the email of the person you want to video conference with and Logitech sends them an email with a free download of the Logitech Vid software, which Logitech claims works regardless of whether the other person has a Logitech cam or not. The software was easy to install. I also like the privacy shade feature, which sort of allows you to "mute" the web cam when you want. But instead of turning the web cam off, it just throws up a photo (some defaults are included but you can set your own photo if you want) that the other person sees until you click back to normal operation. You can also take still screen shots with this cam and I like that as well.

Bottom line is I give 4 stars. I deducted 1 star because the image quality is above average, but not as great as I expected for $80. All things considered, I do recommend it and would buy it again if needed.

I bought two web cams so we could see our granddaughter when not visiting as we live over 2000 miles away. One was sent to my daughter. So far it workes well, but have been disappointed in the lighting feature that is supposed to help in low lighting - it doesn't seem to work well. We are still trying to work out the kinks so maybe it will do better later. WE have also been trying to use it thought the busiest times on the internet, in December before Christmas. I get to hear and see my little angel grandbaby so I am happy. It is wonderful to be able to see and hear her while watching her bat at her mobile.

I like this cam - easy to set up, great for skype. I do have a problem with the constantly fluctuating pricing - I overpaid for this item, and here I am less than a month later with nearly ten bucks less on the price tag. I feel cheated.

This is my first webcam, and was purchased to work with a Dell laptop running Ubuntu Linux (Hardy Heron). Hardware configuration with Linux can be a real bear, but this camera was easy. The uvcvideo driver (kernel module) required to operate the cam is a stock module under this version of Ubuntu, and the luvcview utility, which can be used for testing and adjusting the camera, is available as a package. After manually inserting the uvcvideo module into the kernel, this camera came right up with no tinkering in luvcview and ran with Skype for Linux just as easily.

The built-in USB microphone is OK, nothing to write home about as far as quality is concerned, but quite adequate and intelligible for speech. It took some tinkering to bring the mike up on the system for testing, since the Latitude D600 on which it's being used has a built-in mike which takes priority in the PulseAudio server (which runs by default).

The most expensive and also the most ridiculous webcam I've ever bought.

First, the cord is so short that I had to drive down to Best Buy and buy an extension USB cable just to be able to use it in any reasonable manner. You'd think that for $100 they wouldn't skimp on cord length? (this is the shortest USB cord I've ever *seen*)
Also I was unable to use this camera with Logitech's own camera software on XP because every time I loaded it, a dialog would come up asking me if I wanted to enable some automatic lighting function, and every time I answered it - no matter what I answered - my computer would instantly shut off.
Third, the only way to stand this camera up is atop a stand about 1 foot tall, with a base only about 2 inches across , so (especially given the extremely short cord they provide) keeping this camera standing up is almost impossible. A little bit of common sense would have had them provide a base with a little bit more leverage..

Come to think of it, if you actually have a notebook PC I guess you don't need the (practically useless) stand it comes with, and neither do you need a longer cord because it just clips onto the top of the screen. So basically my recommendation is this: don't buy this webcam if you have a desktop PC.

Great webcam - grandparents constantly comment on the clarity of the grandchildren's video over the web link. Good product.

My family lives so far apart from each other and this is a great way to stay connected !

I purchased this camera to use with Skype. I wanted something simple but with a good quality picture and the simplest of installation. This camera meets all of the above. It could not have been easier. The installation and use could not have gone more smoothly unless Logitec showed up to plug everything in for me.

Camera is just excellent exactly what you expect from Logitec product for the price. Setup was fast, may be 5-10 minutes playing with the settings and you are good to go. I am primarily use this camera with Skype and quality is just exelent. I am using it for a few weeks already and quite happy.

I heard that this was the best webcam currently on the market, and I don't doubt it. The picture quality is great. I often transmit in high-def. My last webcam was a a Logitech Quickcam Messenger, purchased about 4 years ago, which cost about $30 at the time. I'm extremely glad I put a little bit more into this piece, because the value for the price is astounding. It works great in low light and over a wireless DSL connection.

This product is essential for communicating with my friends and family 500+ miles away. I highly recommend it!

This webcam is awesome. I use it weekly so that my two year old can talk to her grandparents who live in another state. Images are always sharp and well balanced despite non-ideal video conditions (dark room with harsh lighting). I liked it so much I bought one for my parents to replace thier Microsoft branded cam that was really lacking on clairty. They can now read her books and show her the pictures and there is no distortion at all. Its like they are just on the other side of the monitor. The audio is also very clear. My daughter and parents love it, and i coudln't be happier. Google's video chat is also partially responsible ;-). Excellent webcam!

I have had two Logitech webcams before, but the quality of the pictures was not that great. After reading the positive reviews for this particular webcam, I decided to give Logitech another try. I am glad that I did. The quality of the still pictures taken with it is very good. The pictures are clear, just like those taken with a regular digital camera.

...a nice carrying bag. I use this camera with my laptop, so it would have been nice if it came with one of those bags that I could put this into, something that would keep the lens from getting scratched when I put it in one of the laptop bag pockets.

This is really an excellent product. I am surprised at the sound quality, its ability to adjust for light and focus and its all round performance.

Was easy to setup. lots to controls and automatic functions. No problem at all. The quality of the picture is perfect. We use it to conduct training classes remotely and the auto zoom and face tracking works just fine.

With all the webcams available, this one's turned out to be everything I'd hoped for! For the price, the features and quality of picture and quality of construction are superb. Ease of use is top notch.

I purchased three of these and gave them to my family so we could keep in touch using Skype. The setup was easy on XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Pretty much all the camera features are automated (focus, light levels, face tracking, etc.) so once it is installed, there is really nothing a novice user would have to do. It worked with Skype right away. At first I was not thrilled with the design of the base, and it took a few minutes to figure out the best way to get it positioned on top of the monitor, but once done, very stable. I am very happy with the product and would purchase it again.

Before I bought this web cam, and experimented with older webcams, it was a huge mess
to try to get videoconferencing at home as good as what I had at work (in a special room at great expense).
Lots of web searches and technical searches, all messy. But when I hooked this HDTV-quality webcom into
my new computer upstairs (a quad core computer, hooked up to Verizon FiOS), Skype instantly noticed it and
when into an impressive high resolution mode, all by itself! My wife had an impressive video business conference with
a group in Hungary, just as good as we have at work, so far as I can tell. A one-to-one conference, where
you can see everyone in the room quite well.

Back when I did a technical search, I found that SightSpeed was actually number one in image quality,
because of some very well documented technology breakthroughs... and it was also free at that time. From the Logitech web
site, it looks as if they bought up that service, which is probably the best you can get if you want 4-way or more-way
video conferences without signing up to $100-per-month services. It also looks as if they upgraded the audio quality
and the interface, which was already happening but badly needed, to compete with Skype.

Under the hood is some fancy video compression. That's a matter of life and death for useful video
(especially at finite cost). The old traditional video technology ... is orders of magnitude worse
and fuzzy and ugly. This is the real stuff.

This is an excellent camera for linking corporate executives to the web.

I was assigned to specify cameras and install them for our CEO and head of HR.

The instructions were straight forward and installation easy!

This webcam is so easy to set up and use, without the hassle of the usual packaging when you buy it in stores. Picture is clear and colorful. I couldn't ask for anything more at this price!! :)

I bought this based on other's reviews. It installed easily, and folks "at the other end" say the picture is incredible. I like the design. It perches nicely on my LG flat panel monitor. One of the old "orb" cameras wouldn't have fit between the top of my monitor and overhanging cabinet, so the low profile is nice. I'm using it to skype with my daughter in Germany and it's a lot of fun. I probably could have gotten a less expensive camera, but I'm glad I went for this one.

So this camera has been the BEST of all the 6 webcams i've gone through in the last 10 years. i've always upgraded my logitech cams as they've improved over the years and let me say this one is by far the best logitech has put out so far. I use this on my 3 year old dual core HP DV9035nr. I've got 2gig of ram, and a built in graphics card. running win7 32bit pro. The camera is built well, hopefully it stays that way. never had any real quality issues with logitech except on one camera (which lasted about 2 years).

Compatible with Skype. The quality on skype as I live in california and my parents in chicago, is great. I show off my daughter to my parents weekly. since I got this camera they said the image is way better than the notebook pro camera i had for the last 2 years. We tested it with the logitech VID software, and my parents said the video quality wasn't as clear. but we'll try over time maybe logitech hasn't fine tuned the VID software. So we'll be sticking with skype since it gets the best image. My parents love watching their grandchild via this camera.

I had no install or driver issues with this so it should work assuming you have the dual core processor and enough ram. i'd highly recomend to anyone. Just wish it was smaller and more portable. the notebook webcams have a carrying case, this one does not. i'll miss that, but all in all it fits my laptop just right.

This is my first web cam and I'm glad I went with it versus a lesser model. The quality is what one would assume being from Logitech. I have Logitech speakers, mouse and keyboard and all of those work great as well. Enough of that, lets get to the web cam.

The picture quality is great, the pictures it takes are great and possibly very high resolution if you set it to max. The HD video it records is crisp and clean and I wasn't expecting it to be that clear.

The microphone so far is my only hurdle. I haven't been able to get it work right outside of recording video where it performs great. When I tested it in a video it picked up my voice clearly and it had little to no background noise. However when I tried it in windows recorder and even later in a PC game using voice chat it picked up a lot of background noise and static. The mic seems to be very sensitive and for some reason only works very well when recording video. However I will not hold it against the product as it could be related only to my situation and its small enough to let it slide.

In conclusion at the time of writing this review I would say this is the best web cam you can get. The fact its under $100, can take 8MP pictures and HD video at 720 plus its a crisp streaming cam, you can't beat it in my opinion. Given that this is my first web cam I might be slightly skewed but I am a very happy customer and I would recommend this cam to anyone.
