Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner

My standard DVD player stopped "reading" my DVDs so I purchased this cleaner in hopes that I would not have to throw away my DVD player. It worked like a charm and I paid less for it than I would have if I had purchased one from Best Buy of Staples. Thanks Amazon!

I bought this as a gift, and have heard no complaints. I've also used it a couple times myself and loved it.

Argh! It doesn't work with my Pioneer DVD player. I was fooled by the high ratings, until I looked at the 1-star ratings after my DVD player kept rejecting the disc. :( The DVD player just keeps spitting the disc back out after a few seconds. I wish the item was more clear about exactly *which* players will work with this item.

I bought this product for the purpose of cleaning the optical lens on my Samsung DVD player. When I put it in and closed the compartment, the machine rejected it completely. It said it couldn't read the disk. Thus, it didn't do what it was advertised to do. It wasn't expensive (thank goodness), but I have the same need to clean the optical lens of the DVD player I had before only now I've lost time and a small amount of money. If this product works for you, then I think that's great. And it might do that on newer models. I don't know. It did not work on my Samsung DVD player, which is about 4 years old.

My Panasonic DVD Player/Recorder does not recognize this as a valid DVD and won't let it spin for more than a second. None of the 'features' will work. I'm taking it back.

works fine on my 2005 car's 6-disc changer, and my plextor dvd-rw on the pc. haven't tried it on anything else yet, but it's no-fuss. just stick it in and it goes.

Again, this is a 5 STARS product. It does the trick. It seems people do not read the instructions and then give it a 1, 2, or 3 stars rating. But this product is great.

I own a Philips DVD player. I had so much trouble with it watching videos. It did the trick in 1 min.

I do recommend this product for DVD players... not data CD-ROM though...

I burn a lot of dvd's and I had notice that I was getting some freezing when I would play them back sometimes. This seems to have fixed the problem.

I don't usually write reviews, but this product worked so well I was compelled to share my experience. Last week I settled in to watch a Netflix and discovered my DVD player had stopped working. I tried repeatedly to insert the DVD and it would immediately eject. I tried to load my DVD player about 100 times with a variety of DVDs and found the player simply would not acknowledge or read my DVDs. So I decided to do a little online research and came across this Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner. Figured for $10 it was worth trying out. After all, that's much less expensive than a repair shop or a new player. Long story short: it worked! The whole process took all of 10 minutes and now my DVD player is working perfectly. Very glad I decided to try this product.

Never worked. Have tried on several computers, and none will recognize it as a CD. Buy another brand, don't waste your time or money.

When i try to play a CD, my '97 Acura is rejecting CD's and responding with a code that says "PEO" 95% of the time, or more. I don't know if that means a dirty lens or not, but i figured this was worth a try. After dozens of attempts, i got the cleaner to work two or three times, but there was no change in the playability of the unit, so i returned the product.
Since then i have bought a disk that says it is especially for cleaning automotive CD players. i thought heat perhaps is more of an issue with car CD players, so i got one, and i have had no more luck with it than i did with the Memorex. Usually the player will reject the disk, but i did get the cleaning cycle to run a half dozen times. However, there is no change in playback - usually a CD is rejected. So i wonder if the lens problem (if that's what it is) is actually an alignment problem, or perhaps a cleaning problem that is too far along for a disk cleaning system to work.
The dealership wants $475 to pull the CD player and fix it. These disks are DEFINITELY the thing to try before turning to options like THAT ! Good luck !

I have a Toshiba SD-1800 DVD player, and at first it was able to play the first and second track of the Memorex disk, but then it stopped functioning and my player won't read it anymore. I tried to select track 13, which is supposed to be the cleaning track, but it doesn't appear to have done anything, since my player still freezes intermittently whenever it plays disks.

Money not well spent. Bought to clean lens on Samsung DVD player and just showed pic, no audio. Didn't clean lens. Went to Best Buy and bought Maxell Thunderon Brush System and it worked like a charm.

I trust Memorex, so I bought this to use in my DVD player, which is a pretty expensive Panasonic model. I put the disk in but the DVD player couldn't read it. I got "unreadable" disk errors. Just to test it, I put it in my CD player. The CD player could read the disc. I let it run through one test, but it gave me some pretty lousy results - the program incorrectly identified which speakers were front, center, rear--indicating that I had my system mis-configured, which I did not. I put the disk back in the DVD player to try again. Still unreadable.

I returned it and am looking for a better quality DVD lens cleaner.

The device only worked in some of my CD drives...but not the one I bought it for which is the primary one we use for the kids DVDs. So still have a problem playing DVD's

i am so happy with this product, i thought my older 250 watt sharp cd player was headed for the scrap heap. first it would not read disc 2, then it would not read disc 3, only disc 1 worked and then that started skipping.....

i used this product and all issues are now resolved, player plays great, i also used this in my older koss dvd player, and although player had no issues, i decided it was about time it too be cleaned...

highly recommend this cleaner, also it is very reasonably priced here at amazon when comparing same type items in the stores....

My DVD Player stopped reading about half of my discs. So I bought this thing to try and fix that problem. But guess what? My DVD Player wouldn't read this disc either. So I sat there like an idiot for 30 minutes ejecting and inserting but no luck. And the best part of it all is my DVD Player is also a memorex. Obviously it's not worth returning it for only 6 dollars.

My dvd player was so dirty it has stopped reading dvd's (although it continued to play music cd's). One clean with this product and I'm back on the couch watching movies!

this product will not work on either of my panasonic dvd players. i took it to work to ask a friend to take it home and try it but he suggested we try it in the player at work ( a sony). it worked there, so i tried it again at home with no luck, but it did work on my toshiba dvd player. my friend bought a different unit at big lots, so i guess i'll try a different one and see if it works.

This is an great product. It not only cleaned the unstable laser lens,but it also showed that the speaker system was not properly balanced. The whole process was fast and easy to perform.

This product works great, my DVD player no longer "skips" or "sticks". Does just what it's supposed to do for a very reasonable price. I ordered this from an Amazon seller, V.I.P. Group Corporation, for $5.99. It also includes tracks to help you fine tune your sound system.

I presume the product is a good one, but it did not solve the problem I have with my DVD player...still won't read the DVD's. Guess it just finally bit the dust.

DVD player stopped reading disks. Tech support suggested cleaning lens. Tried Memorex but it could not read the disk either. Either DVD player is shot or cleaner does not work.

This product arrived promptly and in excellent condition. My husband still uses a multiple-disc CD player in his office for background music of his preference. The Memorex lens cleaner worked perfectly to clean out dust and debris when the CD player was opened.

As far as cleaning, I wasn't impressed and that's what I really bought this item for. The portion dedicated to proper set up of your sound system is pretty good. If you have a CD/ DVD player that doesn't get much use and you just want something to run through every now and then, this may work fine, for my truck's CD player, it's not cutting it.

I bought this product as a precautionary measure to keep various DVD drives in good working order. Since none of them had stopped working, I am unable to say whether this product can revive a non-working DVD player, as other reviewers have said, or prevent future problems. But the price is low, and the product did not cause any damage to my DVD drives, so I will probably use it periodically.

As far as the audio testing, I have two comments.

First, it really is unnecessary. If you have any of the problems being tested for (for example incorrect wiring of speakers), you can easily tell without using this DVD; and this DVD will not solve any of those problems for you, but rather simply detects them.

Second, whether the audio testing works at all depend on your setup. Here are my results:
1. IBM laptop with no external speakers attached--no audio testing occurred (nor would I have expected it to in the absence of external speakers).
2. Apple Macbook with external speakers attached--no audio testing occurred (this did surprise me).
3. External DVD drive attached to Apple Macbook with external speakers attached--the audio testing showed up in iTunes as different tracks that could be played.
4. DVD player attached to TV--audio testing occurred, but the individual testing tracks were not displayed on the TV

Bottom Line: Purchase this product to hopefully prevent or cure optical DVD drive problems. But the audio testing feature may not work at all depending on your setup, and also is not really that helpful.

I though my DVD player was broken - all it needed was cleaning. This works great! If your DVDs arn't playing, sticking, picture breaking up, etc - this is for you.

I tried this product on two DVD players. It seemed like it was working from the audio portion of the program. I was unable to get the associated video portion to work on screen. It was unable to clean the DVD players for them to work.

I bought this to clean the laser on my MacBook Pro, which had been struggling to read certain discs. The laptop couldn't mount this disc and just spits it out. I tried it in two other devices, a desktop computer and a Sony DVD player, and it was rejected by both of them too.

I have a Sony DVD player that is a few years old. I also belong to one of those movies by mail companies. Although I would clean each DVD when it came, more often than not my DVD player wouldn't play the DVD. I could take it in on my computer and play it with little or no problem, but that's not nearly as comfortable as stretching out on the couch. I was going to either end my membership in the rental place, or purchase a new DVD player. As a last resort, I purchased this cleaner and it worked exactly like the directions said. I have had no problems with any DVD that I've rented since then. I would highly recommend this to anyone with problems.

The service was perfect. The product performed as advertised. I bought the cleaning disk to find out if I needed to buy a new DVD player. The disk cleaned the laser head so well that I don't have to replace it. Just as I had hoped.

I recently bought a 14 year-old car and the cd player had trouble skipping from track to track and would sometimes think it had a CD in the player when it did not and would switch from the radio to CD randomly. After using this product, it's worked flawlessly.

I have a 10-year old DVD player. It inexplicably started to not play DVD's, even brand new ones. I used this on the player and it works fine now. I recommend this product for this purpose.

Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens CleanerOur DVD kept stopping in the middle of a movie and would not continue playing. It is a year and a half old Panasonic VCR DVD Player. We were about to give up and thought as a last effort to buy the cleaner. It would not play in the player and kept giving the message "Cannot read DVD". So I tried it in our DVD Surround system and it worked great! Then I tried it in the DVD MANY MORE times and kept getting the same message. I went to the product reviews on Amazon and someone said that they experienced the same problem with the error message but they felt that even though they were getting the "cannot read DVD" message,it was still cleaning the DVD player. So I ran it through two more times and it fixed the problem. Our DVD is fixed! The cleaner never did the whole process but it worked anyhow.

I was getting a strange error every time I tried to burn a DVD with my Macbook pro. I researched online and it said my lens was dirty. This product fixed my problem in minutes. All I did was put it in, let it do it's thing and it ejected automatically.
I'm shocked that it worked.

I bought this item to try to clean my Wii laser lens. It was just an idea on my part, and in no way based on any claim by the manufacturer. It will not work for the Wii. (Oh, Well) My purchase was not a total loss though. I used this on an old DVD player that I thought I was going to have to scrap, and it worked wonderfully! My DVD player works like new again. I highly recommend this for cleaning your DVD laser lens.

I think this product works in older cars that have dust and crap issues. My 14 year old Lexus developed skipping and bumps that drove me crazy. I tried cleaning the music cd's but that didn't work. This Memorex disc, with a chickie giving the directions, solved the problems in a heartbeat. I have 2 cars, and will use it in the newer one soon. BTW, I think the negative reviews are simply people who have other serious problems with their cd radio.

I am sorry to say that I am highly disapointed in this product. I have only had my DVD player for about 6 months. Just wanted to keep it going so I decided to purchase The Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner. After the first cleaning that seemed to go fine. I popped in a DVD I got for my birthday and it read bad disc. I tried another, then another, etc. they all read bad disc. So I attempted the laser lens cleaner again and guess what........BAD DISC. I truely don't know why but as you can imagine I'm very unhappy.

Some rented DVDs had dead spots and after cleaning the discs and with no improvement, we planned buying a new player. Until a Google search sent us to the Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner at Amazon. One treatment with this inexpensive new tool and all was fixed. Obviously, the problem was dirt on the player lens, for which the player's troubleshooting guide made no mention. The cleaner would be better with a more concise (time saving) oral user guide. But, thank you Memorex (and Amazon).

The product worked well. Now I don't have to buy a new DVD player.

My DVD Player/Recorder was having problems recording. Some blank DVDs got the message "Cannot Record To This Disc" and some would record but have skips in the recording. The playback function was still OK. After using this cleaner once, there was a little improvement... but it still wasn't right. I ended up doing the cleaning function 4 times - and now the unit works just fine.

If your problem is stubborn, as mine was, you may need to use the cleaner several times back-to-back. But it made all the difference in the operation of this unit.

NOTE: Memorex recommends you use this product only 10 times... then replace it.

I had a problem with my car's cd/mp3 player, it used to stutter and make some kind of a static noise! After using this lens cleaner only once, all the problems disappeared, I'v used other cheap cleaners but it did not solve my problem, and I tought my cd player was damaged!!

I tried this memorex DVD, LENS CLEANER ON BOTH MY DVD PLAYER AND STEREO CD PLAYER... THERE WAS A SMALL IMPROVEMENT OF THE SOUND FROM MY CDS AND THERE WAS NO SKIPPING...I TRIED THE CLEANING PROCESS ON MY DVD PLAYER AND THE OUTCOME WAS WORSE, THAN THEN IT WAS, BEFORE I CLEANED IT.I HAD TO REPLACE THE PLAYER.

I tried this on two different cd player drives and a dvd player drive.
It did nothing to improve any of them. The dvd drive was working before using the cleaning disk, but didn't work after using it.
I thought before this that Memorex made a good product. I was wrong about this one.
Buyer Beware!

Tried it for the first time, and it looks like it is working.My CD player is quite a few years old, and it has never been cleaned before to this day.It has started skipping on some of my cd's So I knew it had to be serviced before it started getting worse. So I popped in the cd cleaner and heard all the instructions and stopped it when they told me. So far so good, At this time I just have played a few cd's. This does not mean it is a 100 percent guarantee. Your mileage may vary.

I agree with other reviewers that this is a lot for the price (other brands are 2x$ for same product--little brush hairs on a disc--but they don't have the audio diagnostic features.)
To those whose players reject the disc: re-insert until the player reads the disc. I had to insert the disc 4x on initial use. (Because the lens was dirty???) Not a problem any more.
I thought a lot of my discs were damaged, but it turns out most of the problems were actually the player.

This didn't work in my Sony DVD player. After several minutes of waiting, the player responded "cannot play this disc".
