[+] 10.0 Totally Romantic
I know I'm a bit behind buying this album now when its been out for a few years, but I own the two newest albums and LOVE them. I have to say that this album did not disappoint me one bit. I think I like it even more than his most recent albums. The songs are so romantic and sexy. If you are a Michael Buble fan and don't have this one yet, do yourself a big favor and buy it!

[+] 10.0 Outstanding and A Blast to Groove Along!!
Michael Buble is an unbelievable artist. he has brought back BIG BAND! I purchased two of his CD's before attending a concert at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and my boyfriend and I found ourselves immersed in a nostalgic time past. Growing up listening to Big Band, Sinatra, etc.. with my grandparents was a treasured experience and i am extremely pleased that there is a young artist to bring this beautiful style of music to my 7 year old. He likes the CD too:) The concert itself was nothing short of amazing and i highly recommed one in the future for anyone 6-106:) Great buy!!

[+] 10.0 more music for lovers only
Michael Bublé's self titled album truly shows off his excellent set of pipes! Michael has an excellent voice and it's great that he shares his gift with us. The sound quality on this CD is excellent; and I like the artwork, too.

"Fever" is a number made so famous by the great Peggy Lee; and if she heard Michael sing this she'd be very pretty! Michael's rendition plays with the tempo and adds a few key changes to make this version of "Fever" all his own--excellent! The drums and percussion do a lot to carry the melody; I love it! "Moondance" is a great cover of a Van Morrison song; Michael sings this with energy and his enthusiasm is practically infectious! Michael sings this awesome love song with panache and he never misses a beat. Michael's talent really shows through here.

Listen also for "Kissing A Fool;" Michael delivers this George Michael tune with all his heart and soul; the arrangement for the piano is so elegant. "Kissing A Fool" is a prime example of music for slow dancing with your sweetheart late at night all alone in your living room. "For Once In My Life" features Michael Bublé performing a marvelous cover of this Stevie Wonder song; Michael slows down the tempo somewhat and the brass helps the musical arrangement along quite a bit. Michael performs "For Once In My Life" with true heartfelt passion and that's very special.

"How Can You Mean A Broken Heart" has Michael singing a bit more near the top of his range; the Gibb brothers would love it! The elegant music that accompanies Michael as he sings this fits perfectly to make this number soar.

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" is a cover of a great rock song by Queen; and when Bublé sings this he makes it just as electric as Queen did--but in his own way. On "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" Michael Bublé keeps the original tempo of the rock song but his voice is so smooth it easily rivals that of Freddy Mercury and Queen's original version of this tune. "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" features Michael Bublé squarely front and center--and he commands your attention so easily because of his natural vocal talents. Wow, how Bublé can sing!

"The Way You Look Tonight" is a classic love song that gets the royal treatment from Michael; listen for an elegant arrangement to enhance the natural beauty of this number. "The Way You Look Tonight" is easily a major highlight of this album. Of course, "Come Fly With Me" is a marvelous cover of this tune Frank Sinatra loved to sing; and Michael does this great justice with his fine voice. The musical arrangement for "Come Fly With me" fits in perfectly with Michael's singing this song, too.

The CD ends with Michael performing "That's All." This tender love song shines like gold when Michael delivers this all the while sounding like pure silk. It's wonderful!

Michael Bublé fans will want this album in their collections. Other people just discovering the magic of Michael Bublé can use this as a fine CD for starters.

[+] 10.0 Michael has it all!
Having already purchased Michael Bublé's two albums, 'Call me Irresponsible' and 'It's time' I was totally hooked on this great singer. Would this earlier album be up to the standard of the later ones? The answer is a resounding YES! With a smooth, sexy voice like Michael's he just can't lose and as with the other albums, the arrangements are brilliant.
Highly recommended!

[+] 10.0 Smooth as Butter Brickle
I have several of Bubles' albums and this one along with his other releases are fresh and smooth. If his music was a ice cream flavor it would be Butter Brickle. His Vancouver, BC roots coupled with his almost innate interpretation of standards has lit every bulb on Broadway, or at least inside of me. I have never been a real fan of Sinatra but Bulbe' has shown me the way. I don't even really give much stock to vocalists singing someone else's work but he has shown he can stand on his own two feet with his own compositions and lyrics.

[+] 6.0 Enthusiastically reviewed, but...
I was given this CD for Christmas by someone who knew I was into this kind of music (jazz standards), and I listened to it a few times, but now it has fallen out of favour. Why?

Look, this is a decent effort by a popular, good-looking young singer, and it is pleasant enough to listen to. It is a lot better than similar efforts of singers like Rod Stewart, but Buble can hardly be considered one of the great interpreters of the Great American songbook.

When I rate on a five star system, I am only going to give the full five stars to an album that I think is the best, or equal to the best of its type. When you compare this to some of the classic albums also available here on Amazon, you can hardly fail to note that while Buble has a pleasant voice, the arrangements and orchestration are verging on the insipid. The songs, yes the songs are great, but you can hear them better arranged and better sung.

Here are a few alternates for comparison. Listen to the samples and then think about whether this is a five star album.

Blue Rose Rosemary Clooney with Duke Ellington.

Come Swing with Me! Francis Albert Sinatra

The Best of Joe Williams: The Roulette, Solid State & Blue Note Years

Pure Ella: The Very Best of Ella Fitzgerald

Steppin' Out: Astaire Sings Fred Astaire re-recorded his hit songs in the early 50's with an excellent band led by Oscar Peterson. Very enjoyable.

[+] 10.0 More Buble Goodness
My wife and I really enjoy Michael Buble's style - one you just don't see that often today, and especially not done well. This album keeps with Buble's Jazzy style, I especially enjoy "Sway" as well as his rendition of "Come Fly With Me" - makes me think of Frank and the rest of the smooth voiced crooners of years past with a fun modern spin on it.
I look forward to more from Buble to add to our collection.

[+] 10.0 Great sounds for a young singer.
I recently heard Michael Bublé on PBS and was impressed. I decided that I had to have a least one of his CD's in my collection. Its been a long time that his type of voice and music has made it big time. I'm 68 and grew up with Sinatra and his style of singers, so this guy really caught my ear.

[+] 10.0 Excellent CD
If you enjoy listening to the "crooners" - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, etc. - you will enjoy this present-day voice. An excellent gift choice for those who listened to the crooners when the crooners were the present-day voices, or for those who like the music. I was delighted to discover this artist.

[+] 10.0 "Just a Dream"
Michael Bublé's voice takes me to another dimension high above. His voice has an undescribable quality that you have to experience to understand. He's like a cross between Frank Sinatra and Jack Jones. If you enjoy the standards of the American Songbook, you'll love the fresh yet traditional versions of the standards which he sings. I've been listening to the standards sung by Sinatra, Nat King Cole, etc for decades and usually don't enjoy remakes by recent modern artists; Michael Bublé is one of the rare exceptions who outshines all of the recent standards singers wannabes.

This CD is an incredibly great album to from start to finish; there's no need to skip songs which are merely mediocre or plain terrible because each song is a great rendition and a true gem.

Excellent Music. Vintage, soothing - I heard alot of
Frank in some of his tunes and I heard Michael too.
Unfortunately, be aware, there is a blank 1.31 selection
at the end. I thought it was a unique defect, but it
was produced that way.

[+] 6.0 Michael Buble - How does he compare....
Buble has the style and phrasing of the great singers of the 50's through the 80's. He needs a little more work on his styling but that will only come with experience. You like Sinatra and Darin? Then give Michael Buble a shot. You won't be disappointed.

[+] 10.0 A Great Talent
It is so unusual these days to find a talent who can sing recognizable songs and old standards with a fresh twist. Michael Buble makes all the songs on this album his own. Even those that I dreaded to hear are absolutely wonderful.
A fresh face, a fresh voice, a fresh talent who is certainly going to be around for a very long time.

[+] 10.0 The Best Talent Yet
This is one of the best albums ever. It's so rare that you find a young singer that masters the sounds of the past. Rather than be wrapped up in a lot of different genre's that isn't really all that great, he serenades his listeners with the sounds of yesterday and to be honest, without yesterday there is no today. He doesn't become cliche and that is definite staying power in my music collection. I have all albums ever created by him and I'm happy I heard his music. I can't wait until he does another concert so that I may be the first in line to hear him. (I will sleep outside the ticket booth to get the best tickets. Crazy but anything for REAL talent!!!) Anyone still not so sure about his music, take it from a twenty three year old: BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!!!

[+] 10.0 Wears well
I got this album as a Christmas gift. I figured "male crooner flavor of the month puts out good background music album." After all, pretty standard covers. Well, Mr. Buble totally surprised me and caught me off guard. He actually manages to make these standards and covers fresh in some subtle, artistic ways. If a song ain't broke you don't need to fix it, and this is his approach, which I like. But he still brings a unique artistry to the works. My absolute favorite is "Fever." I mean at first I thought, "how hackeneyed, the original was perfect, end of story." Buble brings a very sexy male perspective to the song and knows what it's about. He makes it his own, and he does it by just singing it unabashedly for what it is. That's just one example, he does it with the rest of the material too. Half the genius is his selection of covers.

[+] 8.0 Former wedding singer makes good!
After wining a talent contest in Canada, and later being disqualified for being under aged, Michael Buble toiled in relative obscurity, until his big break came in 2000 while singing `Mac the Knife' at a wedding in which award winning producer David Foster was attending. Foster immediately signed Buble to his record company, and in 2001 released this self titled debut `Michael Buble'.

Although it achieved modest success in his native Canada, it went largely unnoticed in the United States. However with the huge success of his sophomore release `It's Time', in both Canada and the U.S. many people have gone back to sample his early recording.

Though critics have accused Buble of attempting to be nothing more that a Frank Sinatra clone, I believe that he attempts to channel the spirit of The Chairman more than he tries to imitate him. Sure, if you compare `Come Fly With Me' with Sinatra's Capitol recording, the two are nearly indistinguishable, but it's in the other tracks that you find Buble hitting his stride and strutting his stuff.
My favorite tracks are 'Fever' (made famous by Peggy Lee) and the classic Van Morrison tune 'Moondance', both of which really swing with an attitude of excitement for a genre of music that seems to have been forgotten or ignored by an entire generation.

This CD spans several eras from artists like Lou Rawls, Dean Martin, and even The Bee Gees and Queen. There is no mistake that Buble takes these classic tunes from the 40's through the 70's and makes them his own as he belts out some original, catchy arrangements.

If you're a fan of the Rat Pack era music, or if you have just become a fan of the old standards due to the cross over success of artist like Rod Stewart you should really enjoy this album.
