[+] 10.0 gift to treasure
I received this CD as a gift when I was pregnant with my first child. She is now the oldest of three and is now eleven years old. I played this CD every week throughout my pregnancy. I found it very comforting during a period of my life that seemed like a roller coaster ride. Then when she was born, I played it during a time that I was not feeling well, and I saw my baby daughter turn towards the speaker. I realized that she recognized it and made me feel so good to know that she had a sharp sense of hearing. As a new mom, I was filled with anxieties and with one less was a ray of sunlight for me. Great gift for all mommies to be!

This CD is perfect - the pieces are well chosen and truly flow together. The music is neither cloying or jarring. Perfect soothing CD to fall asleep to!

[+] 10.0 Great Product for baby and parents who can't sleep
My wife is 7.5 months pregnant and I purchased this product to help stimulate our growing baby's brain. As soon as we started playing the music the baby would start kicking. I have read reviews that other parents have sent, stating that even after the baby is born playing the music still gets a great response. The product in my opinion is definately worth the price, if it doesn't help put your baby to sleep once their born it'll definately put you to sleep, I can never seem to stay awake past track 3.

[+] 10.0 Love it
I got this about a month ago and listen to it in the car and so enjoy my ride to work now. Its so soothing and I cannot wait to play it to my baby once she is born. I am sure it will help to calm and relax her to sleep since I have so enjoyed listening to it during my pregnancy.

[+] 10.0 Great for putting kids to sleep!
I absolutely love this CD! In fact this is our second one because we wore out the first since we played it so much. It is very soothing, and in fact we used it to help both our kids (now 4 and 18 mo) go to sleep since they were babies. I highly recommend it!

[+] 10.0 A Must Have for all Parents of Little Children !!!
I bought this when my first baby was...well, a baby. That was 8 years ago. Now I am on my 4th copy of this cd (Mozart For Mothers to Be) and my 3rd child. Nothing works better. I'm on here to buy my 4th copy becasue I've worn them out over the years and have to keep replaceing them. My 8 and 3 year old still use it, and now the new baby, also. Make it part of your nightly bed time routine and you'll have good little sleepers in no time. I swear by it. It is very soothing, calming and not distracting so it won't drive you bonkers if you can hear it a little from the next room.

A truely great gift for new parents, or if you have a sleepless little one at home. Turn on the cd, turn down the lights and let it sooth them to sleep.

[+] 8.0 Inspire the baby-within
Beyond sheer musical appreciation and enjoyment, Mozart's music in general is ideal for gently stimulating the "creative centers" as well as instilling a sense well-being. While there is much academic disagreement about the extent or reality of the so-called "Mozart Effect," it doesn't take a genius to observe how Mozart's music puts most people (and probably babies-to-be) in a happy mood ready to take on the day's challenges. There is a simplicity - yet elegance and musical brilliance - in his music that is also well-suited for the youngest of children.

The selections on this CD are all excellent and represent a nice range of Mozart's compostions, emphasising those that are ideal for creating a pleasant backdrop for leisure, dining and social occasions ("divertimentos"). The recordings are from the creme of musicians famous for their Mozart. Few works are as elegant and soaring as the Serenade #10 for winds - an astonishingly beautiful tune made famous from the early scenes of the movie, "Amadeus." Mozart supreme gifts of music are even seen in such humble "background music" as these pieces. And such continuity of warm, leisurely tones as these over 70 minutes is ideal for inspiring the baby to-be if that is why you are considering this CD. Better to expose a baby to the gentile, lyrical music of Mozart than to the dissonant, loud and disturbing tones of some classical music written well after Mozart.

As the reviewer below rightfully notes, compilation CD's of various unrelated works like this one is not quite how classical music is best meant to be heard. But in a way it is better for many to start with such collections like this - especially for those who just want the more quiet selections that are unintrusive. In that respect, this collection can be satisfying for most anyone (not just moms or babies). I have a huge classical music collection, but still really enjoy listening to one full CD of similar-temperament music like this one that flows easily and smoothly that doesn't demand my attention but only seeks to delight. And, in the end, that was the simple and primary goal of many of Mozart's compositions - to be purely enjoyed and delighted.

[+] 2.0 why?
Why do they keep making these "Mozart (and other composers) for..." CDs? I know I know. For idiots to buy them of course so the record company can make tons of money. But I feel it's an insult to classical music. No offense but Mozart didn't write this music for your unborn child. He couldn't care less to tell you the truth. I think he'd be pretty mad seeing how his music is being exploited these days. Why can't people just buy and listen to classical music as it was intended. Buy a set of Mozart's violin concertos or maybe Don Giovanni if you're so inclined. But not this "potpourri excerpts from his work" trash. Another option is to listen to the local classical radio station. Gosh, these kinds of CDs have gone too far. What's next - "Tchaikovsky for Taking a Dump"? Sheeesh....Don't suport this if you care about preserving an art...

[+] 10.0 Calms your soul.....
Just had to take a moment to write this review. I bought this CD 9 months ago right before the due date of my first baby. Being a new mom and nervous and trying to do everything right, I played this CD the first week home from the hospital. It would totally calm both me and baby and we would rock and rock until he was asleep. I've always loved all kinds of music but having such a peaceful CD to listen to helped me gain my perspective and take a deep breath and just enjoy this new little one I had in my arms. Music does that to me but this CD has something extra special.

[+] 10.0 Highly Rated Recordings. Excellent Song Selection
Too often classical music CD's for families or kids are poor in quality. But that is not the case with this excellent CD. The recordings on this CD were selected from the very best, previously released recordings.

The songs were carefully chosen for the theme of "mothers-to-be and young children," and then outstanding recordings by legendary artists were used. The quality and performances are outstanding.

You can find these recording on the legendary "Complete Mozart Collection" by Phillips. It's a who's who of classical music superstars. That's how regarded this music is.

Some people would not notice the difference between this quality CD and, say, new-age influenced synthesizer classical music, but the quality difference is important. This is just wonderful music!

What everyone will appreciate is the pleasant selection of music. This is pleasant music for parents and young children, or anyone. Mozart is like that anyway. Everyone likes this Mozart CD, and it's great for kids.

[+] 10.0 An Excellent Choice for Baby and Parents!
This is an excellent Mozart compilation CD. The selections are very relaxing, and my three week old baby loves nothing more than a walk around the house with "Mozart for Mothers-to-Be" playing in the background.

I greatly prefer this to the Baby Einstein products (e.g. "Baby Mozart"): the arrangements on this CD are much more complex (a bonus for parent and child, in my mind), the performances and sound quality are far superior, and the playing time is nearly twice as long (a much better value).

Baby seems to like it better the more loudly it plays (I think she enjoys the deep bass notes, but she's not saying!), but it works great at quiet volumes also.

I highly recommend it as a soothing, enjoyable CD for kids of all ages.
