[+] 6.0 Service good, phone poor
Two separate comments on the phone and the service.

1) The Phone

I bought this phone, but am going to toss it. The screen display is very small (I've got old eyes, alas) and cannot be read without activating the backlight (unless you use direct sunlight). Another problem is that it doesn't have an extendable antenna for when things get marginal. I went back to the klutzier but better featured Nokia 2285 (available straight from tracfone for $9 plus shipping).

2) Tracfone Service

I have been using a TracFone for several years now. I use it for those times when I'm away from hone and need to stay in contact. I do not use too many hours since it can be rather expensive; however, for my purposes I can get this service for about $100 a year. The minimal service available from a pay-as-you-go cellphone is 2-3 times this much. If I need to yak on the road, I use a prepaid calling card and a regular phone (5 cents/minute versus the cheapest tracfone roaming charge of 20 cents/minute or double that if you don't buy a minute doubling card). For folks who really want to yak on the cell, you'll probably be better off finding a cheaper, traditional cell service.

[+] 6.0 okay
I purchased my 2126 over a year ago and it has done its job well. The only downer is the site, tracfone, which "offers" ringtones but in almost every area of the us I've had a phone in, they cite it "coming soon!"

It's compact for easy use and for those who can't afford much more due to limited incomes, the phone is better than nothing. It offers several nice ringtones with it as well as colorful wallpapers, but no real individuality. There are claims of the faceplate being changable, but, they do not HAVE any other plates to change it to, which is in my eyes somewhat false advertising.
In fact, half of tracfones promises are false leading since you can't acquire half of what they promise.

Tracfone is fine in a pinch or if you're low on money (can't get credit for a phone plan too!) and use it solely for traveling/emergency phone on the road. Beyond that, if you can afford or are able to get a phone plan (like T-Mobile/Verizon if they're available in your area) do so. Tracfone can tend to be more costly than others out there for less service.

[+] 2.0 Robbed!!!
I have owned a Tracfone for 3 years with OK service which included lots of "no service" areas across the US. This month they stopped serving my Nokia phone without notifying me. After trying to use the phone I called their customer service tech reps and after 1 solid hour on the phone they told me that due to age they were no longer servicing that phone. I will have to buy a new phone and a $20 activation card before they will transfer my 852.5 minutes (worth $130) to the new phone.
Their service reps are from Columbia and Bolivia and they hung up on me twice when I insisted on talking to someone from the US.
I don't want to purchase a new phone plus 20 minutes and then have them cancel my service again???

[+] 10.0 Great Basic phone
This is a great basic phone with a bright color screen and preloaded screen savers and wallaper. Tracfone is one of the better prepaid options for someone who doesn't talk that much with a cell (not more than a couple of hours per month). I used this phone briefly before switching to a plan with more of discount for more hours of use per month. If anyone needs an essentially new (no scratches) Nokia 2126 with all of the original accessories and open packaging for twenty plus shipping, please email movieshop(at)hotmail(dot)com .

[+] 2.0 Tracfone Customer Service is terrible
I've owned a Tracfone for 3 years. My old Tracfone quit working, so I purchased a new one. I've been trying for 4 weeks to transfer my old phone number to my new Tracfone. It's been a nightmare-after 4 weeks, 3 new sim cards, and countless calls to TracFone customer service reps, I've accomplished nothing. My phone is still not activated, I still don't have my old number transfered, and I've wasted 7 hours speaking to customer reps. I don't recommend TracFone.

[+] 10.0 I LOVE my phone
I just bought this phone for myself for Christmas :) after having the outdated motorola for years and OMG - this phone is AWESOME!! I can't stop playing with it, lol. It has so many features! I don't really use alot of minutes so I just have the $7.99/month thing through tracfone where they automatically add your minutes when they are due. If you would happen to get low on minutes, you just buy another card. As a matter of fact, my husband was going to take my old motorola to use but he liked this new one so well that he had me buy him one AND one for our teenage daughter. It really is a great phone.

[+] 6.0 Beware of Roaming Rate!
I have had TracFone and the Nokia 2126 for about ten months. It is a satisfactory phone, but service has deteriorated over the past several months because part of my home calling area (as mapped on their website) has changed from TracFone service to ROAMING, costing two units of airtime rather than one for each minute or fractional minute used. Customer service says the map is meaningless, and you can only count on non-roaming service in your home ZIP code. I believe the TracFone website misrepresents this situation!

[+] 2.0 Tracfone technical support is a joke
I never got to use the phone because I could not set the voicemail up. The instructions on the web site did not work so I called their "technical" support. It was clear from the start they are using outsourced staff who have no knowledge of the product and a less-than-adequate command of the English language. I spoke to 4 different people, each of whom put me on hold repeatedly as they tried in vain to find someone else in the call center who knew how to address the problem. I spent an entire day calling them (I was repeatedly told we need to reset something call back in 4 hours...). One person told me my local (Seattle)carrier had no email or phone number and they had to write them a note about my problem and Fed ex it to them!! I asked repeatedly if there was another level of technical support I could be escalated to and was told no. The last person I spoke to told me after a half hour on the phone with her that my brand new Nokia phone required voicemail to be set up AND RETRIEVED BY A LANDLINE ONLY!!! I could not believe this was correct but it was clear there was no one there who had a clue about how to fix what should have been an extemely simple problem. I find it insulting that a company would ask for my money and loyalty and provide this type of "support" in return. I want nothing to do with Tracfone, and have heard Net10 is also owned by them. If you care about customer service stay far away from these providers.

[+] 2.0 Service was way too expensive
I got this Tracfone as a gift, and it's an OK phone, but the service was very expensive. I did about 100 minutes of calling a month and was spending about $35. I ended up going to Virgin Mobile and got a great little plan that had tons of minutes for the same $35 ($34.99 for 300 anytime minutes and 1000 Night and Weekend minutes). Plus, my Virgin Mobile phone was much better.

[+] 8.0 Great secondary device and service
I had a relative visiting from abroad and wanted to provide them with a temporary phone. Tracfone serves well under these situation. I wouldn't boast of its reception ability but will say with confidence that it performs sufficiently well as a side phone. This is a good service if you barely use your phone or desire to be contract free.

Email me and I can provide us both 120 free minutes under "refer-a-friend" program. Email shrey at yojit dot com

[+] 6.0 Review of TracFone
My TracFone is actually the Motorola v170 which I have had for over a year. I use it only when traveling away from my home area and therefore find it very economical. If you would like 120 Free Minutes for your new TracFone which has NOT YET BEEN ACTIVATED, please request a "TracFone Referral E-Mail" which I will generate from the TracFone website. You MUST HAVE this referral e-mail BEFORE you activate your new TracFone (any model purchased anywhere in the USA) in order to get the Free Minutes. raycla@msn.com Thank you! Claudia

There were problems with his but each was resolved with patience & some time. Tracfone has the most polite Customer Service in the world!! This model phone really has a lot of features for a very small price. Great for anyone with limited cell phone useage.

[+] 10.0 Nokia 2126 Prepaid phone (TRACFONE)
I use my cell phone a maximum of 10-20 minutes a month, so my Cingular
postpaid plan didn't make economic sense. I figure the Tracfone will cost
me 2/3 less than the Cingular plan.

Also, beside the cost of the Cingular phone, it had no signal in
the places I would mostly be at, like at home. Now, with the
Nokia 2126, I have 4 bars of signal strength at home. I had
Tracfone previously, except at the time, the phone was not
digital, so the signal was not great in my area.

As far as the phone itself, it is lightweight, simple to operate,
and I really like the flashlight feature. The battery power seems
to last quite a long time.

I called Tracfone customer service 3 times in the past week, and
there was virtually no wait time to reach a representative. They
were each exceedingly polite, and always repeated my question
to make sure they understood what I was saying. It took only 3
days (they warned of up to a 10-day wait) to port in my old cell
number to Tracfone; however, they ended up giving me a new
phone number, so there was a delay in being able to activate the
phone because I really wanted the old phone number.

There is a lot of information at Tracfone.com. The new phone
comes with 10 minutes. If you activate it online, they will give
you an extra 10 minutes. I was also able to get 120 minutes
from the Refer-A-Friend promotion, and you can too! Just email me
(Tcn1446 at AOL.com--put Refer-a-friend in the subject line)
if you're planning on purchasing a phone, and I'll send you the
special email and link. We both win because we both get 120
minutes FREE! It's a great value in FREE MINUTES!

I have been using tracfone for seven months and I am satisfied with it. I have light cell phone usage and it costs me less than 15 dollars a month. The signal is good, no matter in the city of Boston or in the countryside of PA. I have not dealt with their custom service though. Tracfone has a promotion of 120 free minutes if you get an invitation from other users before you activate it. Let me know if you need one. I will send you an invitation instantly. And I can help you even if you have already activated it recently

And I can help you even if you have already activated it recently.

My tracfone has worked out good so far. Customer service is fine and the free voicemail was easy to set up and use. If you decide to get a tracfone, please email me for a quick referral before activating it- we each will get 120 free minutes from the 'refer a friend' program. I'll also send you the simple instructions to follow. I've used Tracfone for quite a while, so i should be able to answer any questions you might have.
ps even if you have activated in the last few weeks i should be able to get us the free minutes.

[+] 8.0 Awesome Phone!!
I have had my tracfone for 3.5 months now it was my first but I am very satisfied with the call and voice quality but I have noticed a decline in my battery life fast I have had it less than 4 mos and I only get 2 to 3 days on 1 charge and I only use it about 3 minutes a day average no more than 10. I love the flashlight and the fact that it has a color screen and that I can get customized ringtones and wallpapers via my new Nokia CA-42 data cable which suped up my tracfone. In fact I was so satisfied that I bought a year card on the 1st of july and plan on keeping it around. The only problem is battery life. Awesome phone!! Affordable phone and cellular service! congratulations tracfone you have another satisfied customer!! :-)
