Product Specifications

The Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer is an advanced, high-tech pedometer that--thanks to unique dual sensor technology--can be carried in your pocket or bag. Now you can just drop your pedometer in your purse to find out how much exercise you get in a typical day of work, errands, and other tasks. Of course, you can also attach it to your belt like a traditional pedometer.

The device's large, easy-to-read LCD display can separately display aerobic steps and minutes walked more than 10 minutes continuously, so you always have the information you need right in front of you. Meanwhile, a seven day history lets you review a full week of exercise, and there's also a 42-day memory for uploading past workouts to your PC. The device resets at midnight automatically so it's ready to go every morning. Of course, the device can also function as a handy and highly accurate clock. It also comes with a detachable belt holder and security strap so it's always close at hand.

The HJ-720ITC is powered by a replaceable lithium battery (CR2032) that will last six months when used for walking 10,000 steps a day. The pedometer also includes PC software for Windows 2000 or XP, which keeps track of daily, weekly, monthly and yearly progress.

The included Omron Health Management Software provides a steps graph that lets you see how your values are trending over time. View larger.

View pedometer and blood pressure data together (via a split screen) on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. View larger.
Omron Health Management Software
Take your health to the next level with the included Omron Health Management Software. This PC software provides a blood pressure and pulse graph that lets you see how your values are trending over time. A morning/evening comparison graph tracks your morning and evening systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate. You can also view your most common values and identify variations by time frame with the frequency distribution graph. The software is simple to use, and it supports multiple users. With just one click, you can download data via the HJ-720ITC's USB connection and see graphically displayed measurements on your computer screen in seconds.

What's the accuracy rate of Omron Pedometers?

[+] 10.0 Best I've ever used!
I've had many other pedometers in my life ranging anywhere from $15 to $60 and I have never come accross a pedometer like this one. It is very accurate, and easy to use. What I really love is that you can see your progress on your computer, cause it comes with a cd to download software to your computer.
I highly recommend the "Omron HJ-720iTC Pocket Pedometer" to anyone that really cares about accuracy and watching their progress!

[+] 10.0 Great
This pedometer is great - it is very accurate with the steps and mileage and is useful for weight loss. I have tried others and this is by far my favorite

[+] 10.0 Omron Pedometer
The only negative about this pedometer is that it does not correctly display steps taken during an aerobic workout that uses sidesteps, kicks, etc. Other than that, it works great. I put it in my pocket and it calculates my steps all day long. Never have to worry about it falling off my waistband and breaking, which has happened with every other pedometer I have used, because it is kept secure in the pocket.

[+] 8.0 Great meter, OK software, poor belt clip
I'm on my third one. In three months. The belt clip is poorly designed - it's made for a narrow belt, not an elastic band - the type found on 99.9% of sweat pants and shorts. The clip pops off easily. If you're on grass or a soft surface, you will NOT hear it hit the ground.

A clip with a stronger spring, or that looks more like a cell phone clip (with that hook at the base) would be a great improvement.

I did notice it immediately the 15 or so times it came off while on the treadmill, and a couple of times on the street. Not while on or near grass. A few times I noticed it was gone - only because I was in the habit of checking - and went back to find it. Two times, no such luck.

So with number three, it's in the pocket - no more belt clip. Too expensive to toss them away each month. So be warned - you WILL lose the meter if you rely on the belt clip.

Data transfer: easy - but the software is VERY basic. Also, you can NOT merge data files as the manual states. So of you have records on two PC's for example - say a laptop on vacation and your desktop at home - you can't merge the files. You also can't enter data manually - a huge programming oversight.

Setup was fast - but has to be performed on the meter - you can't set anything from the PC. This should be a programming no-brainer - pull the date and time from the PC' allow changing stride, etc. from the software. But no-brainer seems to describe the person involved in designing the software.

[+] 10.0 Great Motivator to Get Off Your Couch!
There are a lot of features built into this product. I have owned several pedometers that have ended up in the trash. Not this one. It is sensitive to each step--I have counted steps and checked. The software feature charts aerobic and regular walking with a graph layout of the entire week or month. I have a goal to reach 10,000 steps a day. You have to program the aerobic but if you are consistent (Enter when you are exercising), you will get an aerobic reading each day. I am on a wellness program at work and they require documentation of your exercise. That is done with the Omron. Thirty bucks is a deal!

[+] 10.0 Omron HJ-720ITC Pedometer
The pedometer works real well. I just stick it in my pocket and it counts all my steps. The computer program works well and is interesting to follow my progress. The only critizism I have is that it does not register anything when I ride my stationary bike.

[+] 10.0 Simply the best
I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. It's really top notch as is the included software. I love looking at the graphs each night. It breaks down for you how many steps you walked during each hour of the day, week and month. You really can't go wrong with this.

[+] 10.0 Pleasantly Pleased
This pedometer has really done its job. It is very accurate. I have used other, cheaper pedometers, but you get what you pay for. They count steps even when you are just moving your upper body. This one only counts "real" steps. If you are wanting a more healthy lifestyle, and motivate yourself to "get moving", then this is the pedometer for you.

[+] 8.0 50-50
I purchased this specific pedometer because it came with a CD with software. This would allow me to input the data from the pedometer into a program on my computer and monitor my progress. Well, the pedometer works great, does what it should by counting my steps. I like the different modes offered such as calories, miles, steps, etc. What I don't like is that I still cannot get the CD/software to work. I have contacted Omron through email and they sent me a link to download the software directly from their site. Still no luck. My next step is to call them in person to get a solution. I would not return the pedometer and CD because the pedometer does do what it should. If it turns out that I can never use the software, I will be disappointed - more towards 'modern technology' than against Omron.

[+] 4.0 stopped working 2 days past return window :-(
This thing was pretty cool for about a month. After that, it began resetting the count over and over and flashing a low battery sign (even minutes after a new battery was put in). Of course, this happened about 2 days after it was past the last day I could get a refund. Very unhappy and would not recommend. Just get yourself a plain old pedometer. If you have a calculator, you can figure out your mileage on your own, and save your cash for something else.

[+] 6.0 worth the price
At the price, which at the time I purchased it from Amazon, was about 50% less than retail, this pedometer is reliable. It falls from the clip easily; use the attached safety clip to insure that you don't lose it. Software had to be reinstalled; the software kept referring to the blood pressure unit, which is not a part of this item. Appears reasonably accurate, altho these items are not meant to be rocket science. Gives a general summary of walking effort. Prefer this mechanism to the "pendulum" devices that are generally cheaper, though some are as much or more than the cost of this item.

Great gizmo: especially with it having an 'aerobic' mode and 7-day memory. Don't use the computer tracking yet, but expect to. Have since purchased 4 more as gifts for family & close friends who saw it.

[+] 10.0 Good fitness aid
This is by far the best pedometer I have ever owned. It works reliably, can be worn on the belt or carried in a pocket, and has a heavy-duty leash with strong clip. It stores at least a month of data, although you can only review the most recent 7 days on the device. The pedometer has a mini-USB port for connecting to a PC, and proprietary software is included with this model. The software is adequate for data download and basic data display, but it won't do real analysis such as process description charting. For that you have to export the data file to a format (*.csv) that can be used by an external program. Examining the CSV file shows that there are over 100 data fields for each day! 48 fields are hour-by-hour breakdowns of total steps and "aerobic" steps. (Omron defines aerobic steps as those occurring during a period of continuous activity at 30 steps per minute or greater.) Another 48 fields have to do with capabilities of the pedometer that I have not explored yet. The rest are date, and daily totals. That level of detail allows a number of analysis possibilities whether you are using a spreadsheet such as OpenOffice.org Calc or Microsoft Excel, or professional statistical analysis software.

Some time ago I did use another pedometer with "data storage and analysis" features. That one required manual entry of daily data into a website, had only very simple charting ability, and had no option to export data. I lost interest very quickly. Since I have had this Omron product I have dropped 30 pounds, in large part because I can regularly examine the data and look for areas for improvement in my performance. (Yes, I am a data geek.)

[+] 10.0 Great little helper
This is a great gadget to keep you moving! I got it for my father how had a stroke about 18 months ago and now has came to some depression. Even though this is typical from medical point of view, it is heartbreaking to see your father unwilling to do anything. Now with pedometer he is moving/walking a little better and more with desire to see results. This pedometer comes with software which is great! Now we set every month new goals for my father and downloading results every week or even sooner. He likes to see how he does and software shows everyhting he wants to know. Pedometer itself is small, clip is good too. For the small price it delivers pretty great results.

[+] 10.0 Excellent pedometer and software
This lightweight pedometer is accurate, easy to read, and easy to use. It works well whether it is clipped to a belt, hung on a strap, or carried in a handbag. The software tracks your steps, differentiating between regular and aerobic steps, so that you can see whether you are meeting your goals. It also shows distance walked and calories burned. I'm glad I got the software because it is helping me to form walking habits that have the maximum benefits.

[+] 10.0 High Tech Pedometer
This pedometer is great. It accurately counts my steps and I can even use it on the elliptical. I actually haven't even installed the computer software yet. The safety string has kept me from losing it quite a few times. The only thing that would make this better is having a battery save mode.

[+] 8.0 Great for tracking
This product is tough, durable and excellent for tracking steps, and especially arobic steps. The only problem I have had with it is if you wear it to work, and you have any pudge at the waist, it get puched off your slacks or skirt. But small price to pay for watching your steps and getting healthy.

[+] 10.0 Great Buy
I have used several pedometers in the past with no luck. They would either over-estimate or under-estimate. This pedometer doesn't do that. It is exactly on the money. I did about 5 test counting my steps to see was the pedometer correct. It was correct every time. I love the extra clip. You can clip it to your pants/skirt and then attact the security clip to a belt loop etc. I have had it fall off of me twice (belt clip and all)when I was picking up something heavy. But both times it just dangled by the security clip. So far it has not just fell out of the belt clip by iteself. The software is great. It tracks steps by the hour. You can also set goals for yourself. Overall this pedometer is good for the price and great for beginners/imntermediate walkers.

[+] 10.0 Best Pedometer I've owned
I've been wearing pedometers for the last 6 years and this is the best one I've had. I goes in the pocket so not as obvious as on one's belt and counts steps at any angle. Definitely worth the price.

[+] 10.0 Great way to count steps
I've really found this pocket pedometer to be the solutions to all the problems I've had with other pedometers. Although I've never lost a pedometer down the toilet (which people in my walking program have done), the belt pedometers have fallen off while hauling brush, sawing logs, and even while hiking. With the Omron pedometer in my pocket, those problems are non-existent. Secondly, with other pedometers they reset themselves, often half-way through a walking session. This has never happened with Omron. Lastly, I wasn't very good about remembering to reset and record step counts every morning. The Omron does this automatically for you and not only resets, but keeps a record of the past seven days (visible) and more days in its memory. Having the ability to down load step counts to my computer is a great advantage. The price to utility value is very high and I've gone through many pedometers of varying costs to arrive at this point.

[+] 10.0 Everyone needs one
I have used other pedometers in the past that were of some use but nothing like the Omron. I liked it so much that I purchased one for my wife. You can set goals and track your progress on your computer. My wife and I use it every day and while on vacation, shopping or out of town enter all the data into the lap top to keep track of how we are doing. Has it made an impact on my life, you bet it has.

[+] 10.0 quiet and accurate
This pedometer is easy to use, makes no noise, and the software is also easy to use. I had been given a pedometer that clicked and it drove me crazy. Also the placement on your body was critical. This pedometer is quiet, slips in your pocket, resets every night, keeps a running log, and comes with easy to use software. I would suggest this to anyone serious about keeping tracking of the walking progress.

[+] 10.0 it works fine
You know, you need to stop this 'review my work' stuff. If I hadn't liked your product, I would have sent it back. There is no good reason you should be shilling me for commentary. It takes up my time and puts more junk mail into my mail box. So, print this out and take it to your boss and tell him to take it to his boss. Tell him this is stupid, self-agrandizing crapola and it needs to stop. If you want us to keep buying from you, your company needs to make things easier, not more complicated. We don't owe you any answers that buying your product and keeping it do not provide.

[+] 8.0 Omron HJ-720ITC
I purchased this pedometer with the idea I can put it in my pocket and not need to wear it. I have tried that, but it is not accurate when placed in a pocket. If it is supposed to count EACH step and when placed in a pocket it only counts SOME steps, then what good is it?

Also, the clip design is off. It is too low and falls off quite often. Fortunately there is a strap, so when it falls off the pants, the strap keeps it dangling until you can replace it.

I would not necessarily recommend this pedometer. I had an Omron round pedometer, that I liked much better. Unfortunately, I ran that one through the washing machine and it fell apart. :(

In retrospect, I would have re-bought the round one that I had in the first place.

I have owned this item for several months but just started to actually use it. After a set time the icon blinks that you need to download your readings to the software on your computer. It was easy to install, easy to understand and the software does all the work for you.

Any one can use this pedometer. It's functions are simple to understand. It even records Aerobic steps without you having to worry about it.

I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good pedometer.

I love this pedometer. I have not had a problem with it falling off, but I do use bothe methods of securing it to waistband. I wear it every day from the time I get out of bed in the morning until I come back at night(I keep it on my nightstand). [+] 4.0 This is NOT a pocket pedometer!
I bought this because it had good reviews for accuracy, and because I liked its features, but it has been a disappointment. My primary desire was a pedometer I could put in my pocket, rather than on my waistband, but when it's in my pocket, the accuracy varies tremendously. (It's advertised as working in a pocket, or in a purse or pack.) I've been putting my old pedometer (a Digi-Walker), on my waistband for comparison, and sometimes they're together, but they've also been as far as 3000 steps off in a day, and I *know* the Digi-Walker is accurate.

The other feature I liked was being able to download all my information to my computer. I have Windows Vista, and knew this did not come with Vista software, but I saw that it was downloadable from the Omron website, so I went ahead and made the purchase. The download was easy, but installation became a nightmare. It kept saying it couldn't find a certain file, but the file was there, and in the path specified. I finally called Omron support, and their solution was for me to pack up the pedometer and send it to them for them to check out. Huh? The issue was with either their software, my computer, or operator error. The pedometer was not at all involved, but the person on their help desk absolutely could not hear that, and would not back down. I gave up on her, and kept trying to do the installation, and after at least 10 tries, I did get it to install. (I might add I have a good computer, and a fair amount of computer expertise, so really think this was an issue, either with Vista, or with the Omron software.)

I do like the software and what it will do. If the pedometer were accurate while in my pocket, I would give the whole thing a 4, due only to the software installation issues, but it's pretty useless since I can't depend on it. I did try wearing it on my waistband, too, but I found it's really too large to do that comfortably, and I didn't see a lot of improvement in accuracy, as it's so large, it wouldn't lie flat.
Reviewer [A3NRNDIJCDYKKO] | Date [September 20, 2008]
[+] 8.0 Not bad.
What I like the most about this pedometer is that I can just keep it in my pocket. Not only that I can keep it in my pocket, but that it keeps an accurate count while it's in my pocket. The automatic reset at midnight is handy, so I don't need to worry about forgetting to reset the pedometer and inflating my counts for the next day. The other features are nice, but incidental.
Aerobic steps: I haven't figured out exactly what constitute an aerobic step, but it seems to be fairly accurate, counting the steps when I'm out for a walk as opposed to when I'm just walking around.
Calories burned: It's a nice gesture. But it's probably inaccurate. There are so many other factors when calculating the number of calories burned.
Distance: It's a nice estimate of how far you've gone in a day. But since it calculates distance based on your average stride length, if you're going out on a walk, your stride will probably have elongated, and whatever distance the pedometer give you will probably be on the conservative side.
Software: I suppose it's nice having the software track everything for you, but there's a certain satisfaction from filling in your own chart, which is quite easy since the pedometer itself will display your counts for up to a week. That being said, the software is easy to use and decently designed.

Overall: It's a very good pedometer. I would recommend it if you like a lot of frills to play with. But I bought the pedometer at a discount. I don't think I would have gotten it otherwise. The HJ-112 is cheaper and can also be placed in your pocket. It doesn't have all the other features, but I don't find those critical to a pedometer.

[+] 10.0 Best pedometer on the market
Although it is a little bigger than the average pedometer, making it a little harder to hide under your clothes, it is well worth the extra features. I wear mine a little further back on the on my side so I am able to hide it fine. I love that it tracks my progress for a month & that I can download it so easily & quickly into the computer & view my stats. The software is very user friendly. It also tracks the aerobic steps so that is even better. You will love this one!

[+] 10.0 Special K
I have purchased THREE of these...one for me, my husband and a friend. Several other friends have them too. We text and email each other constantly through the day revealing our step count as a competitive yet encouraging effort so that we all get 10K, 15K or sometimes over 20K steps each day. Our goal is at least 10K every day...and at least 20K twice a week. We LOVE it!

[+] 6.0 Omron Pocket Pedometer
The pedometer itself is very useful and user friendly and works great. The software that comes with it is however another story. I downloaded the software on my machine running XP. It ran great and downloaded all of my data for about a month. Then I kept having to put the disc back in and repair the software, EVERY TIME I closed the program and tried to re-open it, whether it was the same day or the next day. I had not added or done anything to my computer, so it was not that. Also, several people I work with also bought the same pedometer and some couldn't even load the software on their machines running XP also.

[+] 10.0 I own a drawer full of pedometers
I own more pedometers than I care to think about and none of them have ever been the least dependable on a long-term basis. I have cheap one and expensive ones but they are either inaccurate or fragile...or just poorly designed (the worst problem is bumping them and having them reset to zero in the middle of the day). In short, I know pedometers from a user standpoint about as well as anyone...

I decided I would buy one last pedometer and this time I'd shop online after doing my research. So after reading about them all I settled on the Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer and after a month I am thrilled. It resets to zero only when it should (at midnight and not when I pump or drop it), is very accurate and has an awesome download feature for my computer. The software could use a few enhancements (like being able to make physical entries when you forget to download) but other than that it's great too. I find seeing the graphs and charts of my progress a real motivator.Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software

[+] 10.0 Amazing Omron
This product is amazing. Just because I can see how many steps I take each day, it motivates me to move more! It's fun to see the charts and smiley faces you get with the software too! I recommend it to any and everyone!

[+] 8.0 informative
I like everything about this product except the carrier or holster. It comes free fairly easy and I've almost lost it a few times. It contains a great tracking program and is affordable.

[+] 4.0 Too big and bulky
I really liked the idea of this product, liked the upload, liked the added clip thinking it was a good idea, but I really wouldn't need it. Boy, was I wrong! Everytime I bent over the pedometer popped off my waistband. It slips very easily out of the waist clip. It may be great if you wear pants with pockets everyday, but with ladies wear it was conspicuous and too much trouble always reattaching it. I used it two days, and if the packaging hadn't been destroyed in opening, I would have returned it.

[+] 10.0 The BEST pedometer around!
I have had several pedometers most of which are very inaccurate and add steps even when you move around such as sitting down.. This device accurately keeps track of normal steps as well as aerobic steps and calories burned. The software that comes with this pedometer is easy to use and very functional. I have increased my actively significantly since my purchase as I am constantly reminded to keep up with my goal of 10,000 steps per day. I would highly recommend this pedometer!

[+] 10.0 Love it
After using it for about a month - in my pocket, on my belt, etc - this is the best pedometer I have ever found. Well worth the money. The software is also easy to understand and use. I didn't think I would but I've found I want to make it "smile". LOL Hey, whatever works sometimes.

[+] 10.0 Great product and works with Vista!
I saw several postings of folks that liked the product but said it did not work with Vista. I found Omron's support site and found Vista was supported. Received the product after a speedy shipment and great value. It worked with my Vista Laptop just super duper state trooper! Love it. Very cool. I am struck that it is a very good value based on what it can do with the software tracking vs. price. Highly recommend this if you are looking for a pedometer!

[+] 10.0 Very good product
This is a very good product if you are counting steps. The only drawback to it is that it does not track aerobic activity other than the treadmill. My aerobic activity is taebo and it can't track that activity. Other than that, I love it. I have started to park further from the building to get in some extra steps.
