I have not had this phone long enough to rate some categories. However, that which I have experienced I am very happy with. This phone replaced a 13 year old 2 line portable Panasonic that I was very happy with. From my short experience, I think I will be as pleased with its replacement.

[+] 10.0 Great Phone
First and foremost. I love Panasonic Phones. I think they make the best home phones. Even though no one really has a land line anymore, I still do. This phone is the best phone I've had and I love it. Only negative that I can think of is there is no "Locate Button" incase you can't find the handset. Other than that the thing works like a gem.

[+] 10.0 Love this phone!
I needed a phone to replace my very old 2 line phone with answering machine, and it was hard to find one. I finally found this one and it works great. The instructions were reasonably clear (I set it up myself) and it works as described. The sound is good, the answering machine can be set separately for each line, the buttons on the handset are well lit. At this point I've had the phone about 2 months, and I couldn't be happier with it.

[+] 2.0 Bad phone, bad service
Although it worked fine for a couple of years, this phone and the customer service from Panasonic turned out to be a headache, and I would not recommend that anyone buy this phone or any other Panasonic phone for that matter.

I own two of these phones; I have two separate bases, one with two handsets and the other with one handset. Around the same time, after being used for only two years, the answering systems on both phones began to malfunction. I could no longer delete messages or record a new voicemail greeting. The phone itself still worked fine, but it was of no use to me without a functioning answering system.

This product, which was supposed to be top-of-the line, obviously has some sort of design error or manufacturing error. I used the answering machine quite infrequently, so the problem could not be attributed to overuse. The fact that both phones are showing similar symptoms leads me to believe that there is a major fault in this model.

The only advice I received from the customer service representative from Panasonic was to a) send them in to get fixed for a service charge of $80 per phone, b) buy a new phone, or c) send them in and receive replacement, refurbished Panasonic phones. The "help"
they offered me was disgusting. There is no way I will ever touch a Panasonic product again, and there is no way I can go without a phone for a long period of time in order to send it to Texas for repairs.

Do NOT buy this phone if you are looking for a quality product.

[+] 10.0 Nice phone for the money
I read through the reviews here on Amazon, but personally, I don't have a problem with anything mentioned so far. I like the size of the handset... My last Panasonic 2-line cordless (KX-TG2480) has a huge bulky handset which, by the way, started having problems; keypad stopped working properly. I was a bit skeptical to buy another, but I like this phone and I've generally had good luck with Panasonic products.

Anyway, setup was a breeze. You can record different outgoing messages for each line which is nice. Outgoing message sound quality is typical...Not any worse than my Uniden at home. Speaker phone with handset or base; Keypad on base; Intercom; Check messages remotely; Conference call; Caller ID... What else do you need?

[+] 8.0 Good, solid phone
This is the 2nd one of these I've bought. Works well, good range. Took some manual reading on the first one to figure out the menu system. Minor annoyance is that the 'missed calls' counter seems to count all calls, but I'm not sure, and it doesn't matter to me anyway. Speakerphone on each handset works very well. Got the new one through Amazon at the same price as used ones were auctioning for on eBay.

[+] 8.0 wish buttons and handset were bigger
I bought this phone as a replacement for a motorola MD681 cordless phone that I loved (I still have the phone but after 4 years the "6" button is not working so well). I bought the Panasonic kx-tg6700b as it offered many of the features the my previous phone had.

Ok... here is my review of the GOOD STUFF... the phone has great range of about 400 feet in open yard area in a major city, it has light up buttons, speaker phone in the handset and very little to no interference heard while talking... even with DSL service and a filter. The dual antenna on the base does seem to provide for good coverage in all directions

Now my impression of the bad... the handset is slippery to hold by hand or on your shoulder, the voice enhancer so far seems to be a joke of a feature, the soft key buttons are hard to push with my working man's fingers, the base does not seem to be able to be used without power or battery backup, and if you do not need this phone for a second line look for another phone as the handset is always asking you to select line 1 or line 2 (initial settings can help with this problem but not eliminate the issue) . To be honest I only use this phone for 1 phone line but I bought it because the other Panasonic phones I looked at did not have light up buttons.

The price of $55.00 (refurbished) shipping included is a very good deal for the phone, especially if you need a 2 line cordless expandable phone.

I would recommend this phone to the "right" person, but I'll admit that I would have already returned this phone if it wasn't for the restocking fee of 15% and return shipping costs.

Hope this helps.

[+] 8.0 2 Line Phone with Answering Machine
I bought this to try it out. They are available with an accesory phone and base. I bought the single phone and was so pleased I went back and bought the accesory after the positive experience. I would tell you to price out a set sold together because its a great product and it would probaly be cheaper that way. By the way, I accidentaly clicked on 4 stars and there is no way to go back and change it to 5 stars. That is what I meant to do.....Good Luck.

[+] 10.0 Excellent for the price
First off, I bought this unit refurbed for under $70.00. (I see new is pretty good deal for $111.00 now.) For that price you really can't go wrong and the problem was already fixed since it's refurbished, right? Ok, just kidding, but I have had zero issues with this phone. I don't use the voice mail features, but do use a headset and speakerphone regularly which actually seems to work better than my professional polycomm speakerphone that I have. The range on this is also pretty good. I have had it up to almost 200 ft outside the house and still is clear. I like it so much I am about to buy a second handset for it, which ironically costs almost as much as i paid for the whole unit.

[+] 10.0 Maybe Not Perfect -- But What Is?
Having just bought and installed the TG6700B after hours of research, I thought my preliminary take might be helpful to others.

Where I'm coming from: I've owned cordless phones almost as long as they've been around. I was looking to replace a VTech model, bought just a few months ago, that truly sucks.

My needs: are pretty basic. Two-line service plus an answering machine, two extensions. I don't use Caller ID, Conference Calling, Call Waiting or any of the dozens of other advanced features of modern telecommunications, and I'm too polite ever to put someone on hold to answer the other line!

In the past, I've always met my needs with a three-box solution: two separate cordless phone systems plus a dedicated A/M. The TG6700B is what you might call a 1 1/2-box solution: a main base unit and A/M in one under its own handset, plus an extension handset that relies on the same base unit. I had reservations about going with an expandable system: I was afraid the integral A/M would be second-rate compared to a dedicated machine, and I was worried that the extension handset, not having its own hardwired connection to the phone lines but relying on the radio signal from the main base quite a distance away, wouldn't work well.

I didn't even know there were expandable systems until I did this research. I learned that there isn't a huge choice, these days, in 2-line cordless phones -- less choice than ever, it seems to me -- and that there isn't any one system that users are wildly enthusiastic about. I also discovered that RCA has just launched the first 2-line DECT phone, but I didn't consider it for long -- I'm not convinced DECT is the answer to cordless prayers that it's hyped to be. I know that, in countries that have had DECT a while, health concerns are beginning to emerge regarding the technology; I also know that the sound quality, incoming and outgoing, of the DECT phone my mom has had for a year or so is horrible.

In the end I went for the TG6700B because it seemed, overall, to be earning better online user reviews than most other models. Also, I've owned Panasonics in the past and found them reliable.

The TG6700B has a sleek, compact design and a digital A/M with 60 minutes of recording time, which is pretty much state-of-the-art. The A/M does NOT have multiple mailboxes. A year ago, when I bought my last A/M, I would have considered that a big disadvantage -- I live in a 3-person household, and also work from home. But in fact we'd found that most callers didn't understand -- or were too lazy to use -- the discrete mailboxes we'd set up on our AT&T machine, and that it was no big deal for any of us either way.

What the TG6700B DOES have is a sound quality that is the best I've ever experienced, both on the A/M (incoming messages and the computer-voice instructions) and on the handsets -- even the extension handset, which is parked on a different floor and about 30 feet away from the main base, and is typically 40-45 feet away from the main base in use. Assuming that holds up, it makes the TG6700B a winner in my book.

Finally, a few words about the typical criticisms of the TG6700B you'll find on the web:

"You can't turn the handset volume up high enough": I've had no trouble hearing callers at the default volume (i.e. without turning it up at all). Maybe the critics have hearing difficulties.

"The construction is cheesy": It's true that the base and handsets are compact compared to earlier cordless phones -- that's the trend in consumer electronics. But they're not unattractive, and they don't seem to me to be particularly fragile or prone to breaking. I have no trouble working the buttons on the handset, and no one has ever accused me of having dainty fingers.

"Setup could be easier": Perhaps. I can't speak about setting up the bells-and-whistles features; as I've said, I don't use them. There are one or two ways basic setup could be more user-friendly, but in the end the difference is between spending 5 minutes and 10 minutes on a onetime activity.

"The user manual needs improving": True. I had a problem with one setup issue, and couldn't find the solution either in the manual or on Panasonic's website. Had to call tech support. But I got a toll-free agent quickly, and she solved the problem inside of a minute.

"The handset is too small to hold between shoulder and ear for hands-free use": Maybe so. As someone who has never been big on getting cricks in the neck, I prefer to hold my handsets in my hands. This one does fit comfortably in the hand.

All in all, I'm very happy so far. I'd be surprised if there was a better 2-line cordless on the market. And particularly if you need more than one extension...

[+] 4.0 Disappointed over the long run
I've had this phone over a year now. It was always hard to balance between one's shoulder and ear because of the strange shape. The reception was good but I use it as a netphone and had some problems with the being able to hear people but they couldn't hear me. That was when I knew my connection wasn't so good so in fairness I don't know if it was the phone or the connection. But what turned me off big time because I have to dial long winded, long distance numbers, is that when you dial the same number twice in a row, the person or computer on the other line receiving the number thinks it is one number, not two. So, for example, if you dial 1,1 or 2,2 or 3,3 you have to pause distinctly between dialing and be careful of that all the time. If I speed-dial it's not a problem, but if I manual dial, it is a problem. A phone this expensive shouldn't have a problem like that. Then, just in the past few days the base station buttons stopped working! First the review message button...the circular one with the light...didn't work so I had to use the handset to review messages and now ALL the buttons on the base station do not work whereas the handset buttons still work. I had a panasonic 900MHz phone before this for 4 or 5 years and it's sound quality was better than this. Yes the recording playback quality of this is very good but I am really disappointed that this phone has failed after about 14 months. The buttons are good, however and show no wear after this time in the symbols. But ergonomically and the two digit glitch along with the base-station crapping out on me is surprising for a phone of this caliber.

[+] 6.0 Not bad, not great...
I've been using this phone for about a year now, replacing my old Siemens Gigaset setup, and find myself missing the Siemens phone more and more. While the call quality on the Panasonic is nice, there's plenty about it that has me searching for it's replacement. Their software isn't Mac compatible, the phone's screens stay illuminated while charging (wasteful phantom draw for the greenies out there, as well as acting as a nightlight in a darkened room!), and the handsets just feel... flimsy? It's a decent setup, and it does the job, but I'd look elsewhere.

[+] 4.0 range limited
Advertised as a "giga" range phone, you would not suspect range to be a problem. When you need range beyond 30-40 feet and don't get it, the phone system becomes worthless no matter how good the features are. I am back to my 2.4 ghz Panasonic which has range, but bad battery life and interferes with other wireless devices.

This may have been a simple fix if Panasonic had provided an external antenna port on the base unit.

[+] 10.0 great 2 line cordless phone
I've been using the phone in my home office about 18 months. It is awesome in that I can have good reception quality phones located anywhere and not worry about wiring costs, especially with so few options on the market for a two line expandable phone system. The only down side, is that Panasonic is replacing the base unit for the 3rd time because some of the number keys stop working. I have to say they have been extremely good giving the replacement a 90 day warranty and sending an advance replacement w/credit card guarantee so I won't be totally without a system. My father in law has the same phone for about a year and has not had any issues with it. I especially love my headset which gives freedom to type or go for a file, the caller id, missed calls list, and 2 separate voicemail boxes. The only thing that would be better is a wireless headset for the handset or base unit.

[+] 4.0 Good but failed in 6 mos
Bought base unit and 6 handsets. Worked fine, but the base unit stopped responding after 6 mos. Fortunately, I can still connect THROUGH the base unit to the outside. Panasonic says send it back for a ten day turnaround. That's 10 days without a phone or 911 access! So if you buy this, buy two base units so you will be able to use one while the other is in for repair!

[+] 8.0 Great audio quality
The audio quality on this phone system is very good. Clear audio on both the handset, and the base. The audio level on the handset could be just a littly louder (I use it a max). The manual is somewhat hard to follow and they need a "quick list" for the most likely items and functions. Deleting all voicemail messages (deleting one is not a problem) requires a journey through the menu system, and is way too difficult.

All in all, this is a well built and very good performance system, and at the time I bought it, was the best choice for a home/small business.

[+] 6.0 Good - But Not Great
As others have written, this is a reliable system and better than most. The CONs which are causing me to strongly look for an alternative is the transmitting microphone is poor. EVERYONE I speak with complains that I sound muffled or with low volume - even though I make every attempt to speak directly, clearly and loudly when using the handset. As a user, I like the phone's features however phone communications have to be good for both parties.

[+] 8.0 Panasonic is finally getting it right
This is nice phone and apparently an improvement over their last gen unit (they've added more phone expansion capability and the interface is easier). It does alot for the money and is the best made and most full function phone for its price-point. I checked into many others and there seemed to be too many caveats with them for my taste. This phone fits the bill. It was just a few quirks that kept me from rating it a 5:
1)The phonebook cannot be copied to the base station, but only to another handset (the base station itself does not have a phonebook-not great if you use the base speakerphone alot, as I do);.
2)The ability to switch from handset to base speaker phone (or visa-versa) or switch to calls coming in on the other line is clugey and invites mistakes which may cause losing one or both calls. You can do this, but it takes some practice and is not very intuitive.
3)The unit does not have a backlight on the message counter/base display, which would have been nice.
4)Does not indicate which line a message came in on, only that you've got one and it does not allow you to play messages from only that line (I guess this is the notorious "lack of separate mailboxes" everyone mentions), though it does have different outgoing messages for each line.
5)A word of warning to those using a fax machine hooked to a combined (4-wire) line: the fax will not work on a dual line, only single. I verfied this after finally taking a line from a single outlet and hooking up the my multi-fax machine. It worked fine. Use separate lines if you have a fax.

Overall a good phone. Great for a home business/dual line use. I plan to purchase one or two xpansion handsets for the other rooms in my house. I'm looking forward to using the intercom/paging function (less yelling!).

[+] 8.0 Excellent phone system
Overall, the Panasonic KX-TG6700B is a great step up from the earlier Panasonic phones. The design, functions and 5.8 Ghz technology are equal or superior except for a couple of changes from the previous version that we didn't like. The display in the handsets is not backlit and can be difficult to read. The redial button is no longer a dedicated button and is on a multi-function button indicated on the display. The directory list is no longer accessible from the simple up and down arrows. We also experienced some interference with one of the additional handsets that is far from the base unit. The style, dark color and small, light weight, antenna-free handsets are are the way to go.

[+] 2.0 Completely Broken Phone
This product has failed completely. Each of the two lines began to deteriorate within weeks and now the phone set is unusable. We had the phone compnay in to check every connection and phone, and it is the phones. I still have to connect with Panasonic about repair or replacement, and I might like to keep them if salvagable. But, caveat emptor.

[+] 4.0 Panasonic Falls Flat on UI and CallerID
Cr*ptastic!

I have had good luck with prior Panasonic phones, both corded and cordless. Unfortunately, I am now very frustrated with this unit and Panasonic's tech support.

First, the design flaw. I have four other phones/devices in my house that accurately read and display CallerID information. This unit refuses to display the CallerID information at all. The cause is likely the DSL that is also part of this line. Despite having the DSL filter in-line, as recommended in the manual, this phone just fails to display the info...even at the same time other phones are happily displaying CallerID during the same call!

Next, the UI stinks. Why, if the phone correctly gets time from CallerID data, doesn't the system set its own clock automatically? Dumb. My 4-year old AT&T phone does... Also, when idle, the handset displays the # of missed calls. Why not display a clock as well? ...again, my older AT&T and Panasonic phones do.

On one line and want to answer the other when it rings? Press HOLD *twice* (page 27 of the manual). What? That makes no sense!

I wish I hadn't thrown out the boxes when I first got this. I'd return it in a heartbeat...

Finally, when I called Panasonic to report the CallerID flaw, they wanted me to send the base unit to them *at my expense* after just 5 days of ownership. They would send me a refurbished unit 5-10 days later. No exceptions. What a joke!

[+] 8.0 Good phone
So far I am pleased with this Panasonic model. I had a similar model two years ago and it was a disaster -- the battery life was inadequate and I always had a dead phone. This one is much better.

The range is very good, not great. I think my wireless network creates some interference and I get a low hum in the background of my calls. My only real complaint is the lack of speed dial capability in the handsets. With my old Uniden I could call my voicemail to pick up messages by pressing two keys; this phone requires a combination of five or six to accomplish the same thing -- it is actually easier to just dial the number rather than trying to remember the exact sequence of keys required to get there via memory dialing.

It is a mystery to me why no one seems to be able to make a great cordless phone system.

Panasonic downsized the regular 5.8 ghz phone, and the Battery is Smaller. Range is not as good as the larger 5.8ghz but is ok sound is ok but not excellent. Big problem is that phone is too small and the keypad is more like a cellphone size.

How did panasonic let this phone get to development?

Not an Improvement. i am returning it and buying the older 5.8 Ghz Panasonic phone (the one with the external antenna).

I love panasonics, but sometimes More is More.

[+] 10.0 Love this phone!!!
I was very scared to purchase this phone after reading some of the reviews. However, I needed a new phone system.

When I set up the original phone system and the extra handset, I found it to be an excellent product. I have had no problems with the phone. The sound quality is excellent. The portability is excellent, and I have no problem with static anywhere in my home, and I have a lot of walls. Phone is easy to work. The digital recorder works well, and it's easy to listen to messages from the base or any handset. The speakerphone works well on both the base and the handsets.

I absolutely have NO complaints with this phone system and extra handset. I will probably buy a few more handsets, since I have teenagers in the home. Handsets are numbered and cannot be named. But, since I only have a total of two handsets, it is not hard to remember which number I need when paging. Yes, it would be nice to name the handsets, but not really necessary.

Overall, this is a great product!!!!

[+] 8.0 Nice Features , but thought you might want to know
Overall I find this phone works well. The progamming features are easy to understand and impliment, the voice clarity is great but... If you live in old style construction as I do where walls are plaster and lathe, not sheetrock, the signal from handset to base does not carry very well. I have 3 extra hansets of which 2 work exceptionally. This includes the phone that is part of the base unti. The one in my bedroom that is some 20 feet away but with 2 walls in between has an issue with humming and crackling call quality. True, my 3 computers are in the same room but this phone operating on the 5.8 giga hertz band should not cause interference or be subject to interference. I can only conclude ( perhaps the right word is guess) that the wall materials are such that they block effective transmission of voice and cuase amibent intererence on the line. Mind you, this is not true all the time.. only some of the time. My extension that is situated some 45 feet away in the pantry is clear as a bell until I turn a corner into the kitchen about 4 feet further on. At this point I loose the call altogether. I am not going to pan this product based on the construction quality of my apartment . I am sure this phone will work just as advertised in most situations.

[+] 8.0 Best 2-line phone I've seen for the price
Finally a 2-line phone that has most of the features I've wanted: Cordless, good sound, answering machine, easy set-up, intuitive features, no big antenna on each handset, and good mobile range. I'm quite happy with it and only have a few gripes: the lighted display on the handsets is hard for me to read and it doesn't stay lighted long enough; the Line1/Line2 buttons are recessed and hard to push unless you have very small fingers; no voicemail boxes. Overall, this is quite a good phone system.

[+] 6.0 AT LEAST THE #1 ON THE KEYPAD WORKS...A MIRACLE FOR PANASONIC!
Ditched an expensive Panasonic system because the #1 on the keypads failed. Panasonic was not helpful. They stopped making the product & replacement handsets increased in price x 3...figures. This system is adequate for a home or apt. Handset volume is an issue. Handsets are light & feel flimsy. Can't assign names to handsets. No separate mail boxes for handset stations. When on hold for any duration on the handset speaker, don't replace handset on charger or there goes your call. (What were they thinking?) Base station is nothing short of unattractive. Voice quality of msgs. is poor. Caller ID not working properly on base station. Range is adequate. Fairly user friendly. Definitely nothing to get excited about. With the exception of the well-known #1 button keypad failure of my prior Panasonic system, this model is a disappointment in comparison. It will be my last Panasonic phone system unless the company gives me one!! Good luck with yours.

[+] 6.0 Great Phone, NEEDS multiple voice-mailboxes
We bought this for our office and LOVED IT until we realized it doesn't have individual mailboxes for each user, just one for everyone. That simply does not work in our busy office. Had to return it even though we loved everything else about it.

[+] 10.0 it just works
Nice thing about this cordless phone is that you plug it in and it just immediately works perfectly, no hassle, no incomprehensible instructions, no complicated set up. I didn't even read the manual. "Plug and play". The range is great too, so far as I can tell in this one BR apartment. The old phone, not a Panasonic, would punk out a little past the bedroom -this phone makes it anywhere with NO degradation in signal. Order the one with two handsets - you will appreciate the second set.

[+] 8.0 All good.. except....head set talk volume is too soft
I got a bargain on this phone. All the features are great but lack of caller ID on the based. Speaker is working really well. But the headset on the cordless phone is unusable. The talking volume is too soft.

Overall, it is a good phone.

[+] 4.0 Disappointed
Purchased system figuring it would be better than my old Siemens 2.4 GHz system. Unless you live in a tiny house, forget it. Bad reception from as little as 20 feet away. Also, handsets cannot be named so you have to memorize where handsets are by number when paging or transferring calls.

[+] 4.0 Save your Money
I am looking for a system to replace a Siemens 8825.
The 8825 has, in my opinion, the best set of functions of anything
currently available but I have some reliability issues with it. I first tried the Motorola 7081 and found that unsatisfactory.
My next attempt was the Panasonic KX-TG6700B. This phone has decent volume and clarity at the base. The handset has good clarity and range but the volume could use a little help. The base layout is ok but the way you turn on the answering machine at the base is silly. The handset feels light and chintzy. The clarity of the outgoing messages on the answering machine is poor. The base is ugly; what were they thinking?
Anyway, it ok, not wonderful. But since I couldn't get the answering machine to save messages on either line (it's defective) I sent it back. Back to the drawing board.

[+] 6.0 I had higher expectations
I am an industrial designer, so I look pretty closely at features and design. I bought a 5.8 GHz phone because one of the other users has a very minor hearing impairment, and I was told that a 5.8 GHz will deliver the "best sound". I wanted cordless because I didn't want to be tethered during long calls.
First, the handset volume, at max., is not very loud, even for me. It is clear, but the handset volume is the most disappointing feature of this phone.
Secondly, these days, one is frequently placed on hold after making a call. I'm used to placing the phone back in a cradle or in the base station when this happens and placing the call on Speakerphone, so that the handset can recharge while I'm waiting. Panasonic tells me there's no way to do that without disconnecting the call. It can be left on handset Speakerphone, but not returned to the cradle for re-charging without disconnecting the call.
Thirdly, I was surprised at how small the phone and handsets actually are. There's certainly less to cradle in one's shoulder.
Finally, the silver coating on the round button with the arrows pointing if 4 directions is already chipped on the edge. Doesn't portend well for how that coating will hold up.
This is far from being an excellent product! I am tempted to return it, but I don't see another 5.8 GHz product that has received wonderful reviews.

[+] 8.0 Very Good System...minus a couple of points
Had this system for a week now. Almost Everything is great. The only complaints is that I cannot get the caller ID to work on the 2nd line. Panasonic is no help...just a generic trouble shoot from them. The other item is the display of all the missed calls. Besides that it is a good system so far???
