Helps control my environment
I suppose I am one of those people who needs quiet in order to create. The people next to my office frequently listen to music while working or have loud office meetings. I bought these ear muffs to control my environment. I would say that it cuts out 99% of the sounds. If there is someone talking I can hear a distant muffled garble, very indistinct and generally not bothersome at all. Occasionally I will hear a distant bass note or a drum beat depending on the type of music he is listening to.
I would guess that these muffs would significantly reduce music you might hear in an apartment situation although I haven't tested them in that environment yet. My only complaint is that after an hour or so the muffs can start to seem a bit tight (even though initially they are extremely comfortable). I occasionally have to take a break for 10 minutes or so before I put them back on. I would imagine that if I were walking around it would keep the circulation going better (I sit at a computer). If I were going to study at a loud library or other public space these would definitely allow improved concentration.
Well worth the money and much better than the extremely uncomfortable brand I bought at my local box store.
The community I live in always has some racket, be it trucks, car stereos, hammering, doors slamming. These do the trick and are reasonably priced. I suppose the noise-canceling variety would be even better, but if you have a modest budget these will even block out the phone ringing.
You will occasionally need to take these off to let loose some suction pressure and get them comfortable again, but I have taken many a nap with them on so the comfort level is great if you sleep on your back.
Great value.

Great noise reduction for lots of uses
I originally bought these to reduce machine noise while I was mowing the lawn or using the leaf blower. When my daughter left for college she complained about dorm noise keeping her awake at night so she brought these along with her. Now she sleeps with them every night! I know it sounds a bit crazy but it really seems to work for her and lets her fall asleep even when it is very loud. In addition she says the slight pressure on her temples from these has a calming, soothing effect,,,kind of like a gentle massage. Who would of thought....
Amazing 30 db noise reduction. Comfortable, makes .22s sound like nothing and 9mm quite quiet. Vry highly recommended. They feel solid.

Peltor Hearing Protection
The Peltor H10A Optime 105 Over-the-Head Earmuff is very well-made. Quality material and easily adjustable for perfect fit and they remain where you set them without constant readjustment. Noise reduction is very good and overall, they are much better than the 'muffs found at most firing ranges.

For straight-forward, no frills, comfortable hearing protection, its pretty hard to beat these muffs. I recommend them.
I received these for Christmas and so far so good. They feel comfortable and do a very good job of blocking sound.

Peltor H10A Optime 105 Earmuff
I have used this brand of earmuff for more than 15 years. They are so effective and comfortable that I usually put them on just before operating a noisy power tool and forget to remove them for long periods. They also keep my ears warm when it's cold in the shop.

Amazing. The best thing I've bought all year.
Wow. I don't know how I lived before these. They are so quiet and peaceful. Previously I was using noise-canceling music headphones during my urban commute, but the suction on these makes anything else feel and sound like a joke.
Also, if you have music player earbuds and certain-shaped ears, you can put these earmuffs right over the earbuds and have pretty good sound. Doing that earbud-earmuff combo might make your ears sore after extended periods of time.
The only drawbacks are no music/audio port, and sometimes the earmuffs slip down on the wire frame.
This is my first customer review on Amazon, because I wanted people to know that this product can change lives.
I got these because of my noisy birds. They save my birds lives from my annoyance.

Silence is bliss.
I purchased this product primarily because I have a neighbor who loves to karaoke. His singing isn't good at all, and he sometimes sings at midnight. Based on this, I would have to say that these ear muffs work well for me. Once I put them on, I'm literally in my own world. The sound of my PC's fans become a distant faint hum, my neighbor's singing literally disappears, and all I hear is silence, and the peace that comes with it. I use these ear muffs when I need to pump out papers and I need to focus on the tasks at hand with great effort and minimal distraction. The ear muffs will not stop sound-waves with a high bass-content though. It does muffle it somewhat, but if your hearing is sharp, you'll still notice it. Also, please be aware that the "extending" mechanism of this ear muff is somewhat weird. It's actually on the muff itself, as opposed to what you might think to be a logical position on the black band at the top. If you're having difficulty finding it, look on each muff, where the two metal wires fit into their individual snug holes. Pull on that and you'll soon figure out how the extension works.
Overall, if you are one who needs to focus (i.e., no music, nothing) and is easily distracted due to sharp hearing, for 20 dollars, this will probably give you a huge boost in productivity.

I doubt if anything is better.
I have been using the Peltor H10A Optime 105 earmuffs for a couple of years now. They do not completely eliminate all sound, but they do a better job of achieving that perfection than any other thing I have tried, including other earmuffs and various ear plugs. They make my ears a little sore after extended usage, maybe a couple of hours, though that's not unbearable, and a little repositioning of the muffs helps. Also, after extended usage of headphones and earmuffs, I think my ears may have become toughened.
Their flaw, besides their imperfection, is that the padding wears down. Recommended replacement period is six months, and the available replacements are expensive. As far as I can find, the least expensive price is $8.95. Then there's $11.00 for shipping. Even for those, the foam looks different from that I presently have. So rather than take a chance with the iffy replacement kit, I feel more confident in buying a whole new set of earmuffs. At the moment amazon's price is about the same as the total cost of the replacement kit.

Comfortable and Effective
Earmuffs do what they are designed to do - block/dampen loud noises. They are very comfortable and the wire adjusters work great - they are pretty rigid and require a bit of effort to move them, which is great as this means they don't wiggle themselves loose when they're on your head.
Noise (I'm mostly using them when I'm running a circular saw) is greatly diminished. Voices are dampened to the point where I can hear that my wife is talking, but not what she's saying in a normal conversational voice. On a related note, we don't argue nearly as much anymore!

Only Reduces Very Little Noise
These are just ear muffs with padding, they DO NOT cancel out any noise. Probably better off using ear plugs.
With these on, the TV in the room is silent. And they're so comfortable, especially after overbending the band a bit. Well worth the few extra bucks over a cheaper model.

Not "noise canceling", but great for yardwork
I'm not sure why these are called "noise canceling", since there is no active noise canceling involved - just foam padding. However, they do a great job of reducing the noise from my lawn equipment while mowing the lawn.

Good as advertised and reviewed
Very comfortable and light. The only reason for a lack of 5star rating is the flimsiness of the bands, just something to be aware when handling and storing.

its like my neighbor's dog doesnt exist....
while these are great noise cancellers, i wouldnt buy them if youre looking for something to wear while relaxing/sleeping. They might be comfortable enough for work but not so much for laying about and DEFINITELY not for sleeping, they are too bulky and basically restrict any head movement while laying down
These are the first earmuff-style protectors I have had, and I am completely happy with them. Gasoline motors, loud shop equipment, and everything else are brought down to a comfortable level. I have used these regularly for a year or so, and they are as good as new in spite of some careless handling on my part.
I do have to agree with other reviewers that "noise canceling" is misleading. There is no active cancellation, just good attenuation.

Don't be deceived
The product description is total deception. Noise cancellation requires an electronic or mechanical negative feedback system, which these earmuffs do not have. These are nothing more than noise reducing ear muffs.

Very Comfortable, Nice and quiet
These babies are nice. They have a snug fit around the ears and a very soft ear cup that reduces fatigue. Putting them on the world is silenced. I use them every day for Carpentry work and shop work and they're tops. These days its hard to find earmuff's that don't break after a couple months due to plastic over the head parts and these ones are metal woohoo!

Order was placed on Sunday and was delivered the next day. Seller keep up this excellent turn around time, you have certainly exceeded delivery expectations. The product arrived in perfect condition. As for what the seller has no control over, the earmuffs themselves are about 70% effective at blocking ambient sound and are comfortable to wear on a small head with their padded ear pieces.

Don't work on power tools without it
I love this thing. Every power tool in my tool shed is noisy, epecially my Harbor Freight dust collector. This earmuff deadens pretty much all the noise. Works so well, my wife periodically gets frutrated that I can't hear her yelling at me from the house. :) I'll never have to worry about losing my hearing doing woodworking with these things. Every wood worker needs to own a pair of these.

They work, in spite of the misleading title
These do not have active noise canceling, but I knew that before I ordered them. They do reduce noise levels substantially. The wires that go over your head are quite strong and I didn't find the unit very comfortable until I bent them to a more gentle arc. Now they still seal very well without that "head in a vise" feeling. The ear cups are quite large and so when I slip the muffs down around my neck after I'm done making noise they are a bit obtrusive, but not overly so. Recommended.

Quality hearing protection for a reasonable price
I've used these earmuffs for over a year now and have been very pleased. They are comfortable to wear and do a very good job at attenuating load noises (lawn mower, shop vac, power tools, leaf blower, etc.) The padded seal on the ear cups does a pretty good job of accommodating my eye glasses, and doesn't noticeably impact the sound attenuation.

I got these noise cancelling ear muffs for the purpose of working on a story that I am writing in a noisy basement. These things work pretty good and they cancel out noise pretty well. for the person who said it doesn't fit, the size adjusts.
This headset does not fit a larger head and has poor ventilation.
I dropped them to the ground and they fell apart, not good for a product supposed to be of good quality. When working outdoors with noisy equipment you expect a product like this to be able to endure tough treatment. This headset clerly does not live up to the simplest standard.

I can't believe I waited so long...
I bought a new Scag Zero turn mower this year , a commercial unit, to cut my 5 acres. The engine sits right behind you and the foldable roll over protection system is right at ear level. These earmuffs block out enough of the noise but you can still hear just enough to know that the mower is still cutting and what not. These work great for me and makes my mowing time more enjoyable. God I can't believe I'm saying that mowing 5 acres is enjoyable. Buy these, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent ear muffs, comfortable, good sound attenuation
I work in a noisy datacenter where hearing protection is a must. After breaking a pair of ear muffs with a plastic yoke, I purchased these Peltor Optime 105's. The yoke is made of wire covered in plastic, which lessens the likelihood of a plastic-only yoke breaking. I've only used these for a day but hopefully they will hold up well and be durable. The Peltor Optime 105's are comfortable (worn for a couple of hours) and provide very good sound attenuation. I'd recommend them and purchase them again.

Peltor H10A Professional Noise Canceling Earmuff
The sound reduction capability of these earmuffs is phenomenal. The protection rating listed on the box is 30 decibels. The price is certainly right.
However, do not buy this product if you wear a ten-gallon hat. Only buy it if you have a half-pint head. The headband is not adjustable and is just too short for a man's head.
Many less expensive, less effective earmuffs have an adjustable headband so that anyone can wear them.
I bought two of these earmuffs. I will keep them and let the women in the family wear them.
I gave it four stars only because of the skimpiness of the headband. Otherwise, these earmuffs are perfect. What a shame! I am disappointed. I wanted to use them, too.

Works great for the price
Spent a day at the range with these, and for the price, they work excellent. My only cons are the bulk makes rifle shooting a little bit interesting when trying to lock your cheek into the stock. I quickly adjusted through. I also does not have any kind of functionality for allowing conversation level audio to come through easier. That said, this is an excellent value for the price.
Extremely comfortable to wear while it effectively blocks out the irritating/damaging noises.
What more could you ask for especially for only $20?
Another quality Swedish product.

Good noise reduction
I use these indoors with power tools and outdoors with string trimmers and leaf blowers. Your hearing is important, and this is a simple and inexpensive way of protecting your hearing. With a pair of earplugs, these also worked just fine on the long C-130 flights between Christchurch, New Zealand and McMurdo Station in Antarctica. When these comfortable earmuffs stop being comfortable (after a few hours) you still have the earplugs, and if those bother you can remove them and keep the earmuffs on.
Not true noise canceling, better discribed as noise blocking. Very good ear protection with very little noise leakthru.
It is comfortable to wear. The only improvement that I wish is to reduce the noise level further.

Works for our horribly loud weed whacker!!
We have a weed whacker that is so loud that we usually keep it on second gear. We bought the little plugs that you could put into your ear canal, but that ended up being more of a problem (sweat getting trapped in the ear and not staying in). We wanted a better solution. I found these Peltor H10A noise canceling earmuffs, and figured for the price why not give them a try. These work really great, and are very comfortable. If you want a product that is cheap in price, but is so worth your hearing protection I would suggest these.

Great noise cancellation, very comfortable.
I purchased the Peltor H10As for use when mowing my lawn as I've noticed that after mowing I'd have a rather audible ringing in my ears; obviously not something desirable. These earmuffs do a fantastic job. They eliminate almost all the noise to a very dull humm, but provide enough dynamic range to recognize things you might want to still hear like mower blades becoming disengaged. They surpassed my expectations. I very highly recommend them.

Absolutely Amazing!
First of all, forgive my bad English.
This is my first foray into the earmuff world. I live near a noisy area (in a developing world), with lot of vehicular traffic creating unwanted noise. I was exploring techniques about sound-proofing my home, but then considered a less costly and a more practical solution offered by earmuffs. Some of the reviews posted here helped me very much in purchasing this product. I have been using this for a week now and I must say these are fantastic. Following are my specific comments.
1. Comfortable to wear, given the type of product it is...(large object covering your ears).
2. It immediately shuts out outside noise (as advertised) and brings in much needed silence.
3. You can still hear people talking around you (unless they whisper). This is the best part!
4. The sound-proofing is about 70-80%. You can still hear noise, but nothing can shut out complete noise.
5. You will hear your own foot-steps and your voice through your body. Its a strange feeling.
6. Reduces kids (and wife's) yell's to manageable levels.
7. You can buy this product without worries, and its well worth the money. Thanks to Peltor for creating a great product.
8. The product description may be a bit misleading, in the sense its not an "active" noise cancellation device. It does not do any extra work in reducing the noise apart from hugging your ears very closely. But it works just fine.
Rating: 5*+.
Thanks for reading my (long) review.
I bought this earmuff to block out my noisy neighbors in their pool. It really does help. The muff doesn't block out the high-pitched screams of the kids but it does muffle it and makes it seem farther away. Helps me to concentrate so I can work and read, even when the neighbors are playing. My ears do get hot, though, when wearing the muff on a hot summer day. But I'd rather have that bit of discomfort as long as I can have a little peace.

Muffles just 'bout everything
I love these things. I got them to wear while operating a new lawn tractor at my wife's request. They silence out not only the vast majority of engine noise, and provide outstanding protection, but will silence people yelling at you whom you'd just as soon ignore. Great product! A very beneficial, yet selfish, convenient item.

Works the best of anything I've tried
I've had hearing loss & tinnitus since the 70's (Army vet). I've tried hard to protect what I've got left & prevent spells of increased tinnitus (ringing in the ears) caused by loud noise exposure. These earmuffs are light, comfortable and REALLY bring down the noise level! You can hear someone talking to you, but just enough to know you need to take off the muffs to carry on a decent conversation ;-}

Fell apart after just one use--later proved repairable
Original Review: I'd give it zero stars if I could. It's a piece of junk that literally fell apart after just one use.
Later note: My husband was able to put the thing back together, and it works well. I still think it's ridiculous to sell a product that has to be repaired before use, but I can't complain about the noise reduction. I bought it to reduce traffic noise from a busy highway, and it makes a big difference. You do have to be careful to tuck all of your ear into the hollow part of the ear muff, or it hurts.
If I hadn't received a poorly-assembled one, I'd have given it a much higher rating.

Must Have In Any Workshop
These are a necessity to have if you work around any loud tools to protect your ears properly.
They block out sounds effectively enough that there is no ringing or pain from pretty much every power tool you use.
Very comfortable and easily adjustable, and the best I have tried when taking into account the main things I was looking for - ability to cut out noise and comfort.
For those of you who want an affordable ear protection system without the hassles of batteries, this is the product for you. Comfort and noise cancellation at its best

Outstanding noise cancellation
I ordered these earmuffs to cancel out the endless barking of the neighbor's dog. I put these on and wow, everything went away. It's wonderful. I can read without the noise pollution, and without the constant irritating noise. I will occasionally put my iPod earbuds in, then these earmuffs and there is *no* noise intrusion. I also use these at my computer to watch movies or Hulu television with the earbud earphones and they work great. I used them with my circular saw and it cut the noise of the saw down almost 90%.
They are very comfortable and I often forget I have them on.
One note of caution though, these work almost too well and if a family member is calling you - you will not hear them if they are more than 8 feet away.
