[+] 10.0 Best Pet Ramp on the Market
The PetStep ramp is the best quality pet ramp I was able to find after much research. I had even brought one ramp home, and then returned it because it was poorly designed and constructed. It was the same price as the PetStep. The PetStep model has a rubberized texture on the ramp, which is fantastic. All other models I found had a gritty sandpaper for traction. This was hard on human hands when manuevering the ramp, as well as the pads on the dogs' feet. The dogs are not the delicate type (3 of them, each 100+ lbs). The ramp is very sturdy which helps the dogs feel secure when using the ramp. No wavy wobbling even for our hefty pups! And... Amazon's order processing is great. The ramp was delivered very quickly.

[+] 8.0 Worth the money; a bit heavy
This is the first ramp I have ever gotten for our arthritic German Shepherd weighing 90 lbs, so I have nothing to compare it with.
I would say the ONLY negative is that it is a bit heavy, but I am able to get it in and out of the trunk without a problem.
With a few snacks, my dog got this ramp easily. No slipping, I haven't caught my fingers in it as other people have mentioned. It has a nice rubberized end so it doesn't slip when you use it at the top of a step.
Today we went in and out of the car without a problem (I practiced at home with snacks for an evening). She obviously never used one before.
It could not support my weight easily (150 lbs) for long, but it's great for dogs around 100 or so.
It has an easy catch to fold it up and a hand-holding area. I'm glad I spent the money on a good well-made one. It is long and wide enough for any dog or situation that the general public would use I believe.

[+] 10.0 Alternative Use - No Pets Required
I purchased this ramp over 1yr ago to use for my large Yamaha 3500 Genset and am happy I did. This ramp is very sturdy and easy to fold and unfold. My large Yamaha genset rolls in and out of my tow vehicle. This ramp makes it a one person job.

[+] 8.0 reliable ramp
Our 90 pound husky just had ACL surgery and I bought this so he could get in and out of the SUV. It is a great ramp, easy to use, very sturdy, a cinch to unfold and very lightweight. The tread is very good and provides for sure footing. We have used it outside over a few steps for him and it has been left outside in the rain overnight. It is plastic, so being outside doesn't hurt it and the water runs right off it. I am really happy with it.

[+] 10.0 Love it!
Our older dog sometimes has trouble jumping into the SUV, so we bought this for him. It was very easy to train both of our two dogs to use this ramp. We have had the opportunity to use this when we go on our long hikes, we are out for hours and have two very tired dogs when we get back. They walk right up the ramp with no problems.I have had the ramp for about two months and I would recommend this ramp as it is easy to use and to train a dog to use it. We keep it in our back seat to always have it handy. I look forward to using this ramp for years to come.

[+] 10.0 AWESOME PURCHASE!!
We have a very old 20 pound rescue dog who has a terrible time with stairs. Very arthritic and has old orthopedic issues. We were lifting him constantly. Debated and researched ramps FOREVER.....finally settled on this one. We could not be more pleased!!!

First, I am a small woman, and this is EASY to lift; and I have no idea about where folks are getting this "pinching you fingers" stuff....I mean, yes, if something folds and you put your fingers in the way, you will get pinched, but you have to be stupid to do that! We carry over next door sometimes without even folding it.....very easy to manage BUT very well designed and sturdy. Love the rubber grips at the top and the ribbed ramp is just perfect. He learned to do it in 2 days and seems sort of proud that he can go up and down by himself now. We hear the "WOOF" at the door and there he is at the top of the ramp. BUY IT!!! It has changed out lives. And, Amazon is always excellent to deal with!!!!

[+] 10.0 Made Toby's last two years a lot better
Toby, our 90-lb "pup", got too old to get in and out of the SUV on his own. The Petstep saved the day. Easy to deploy, easy to fold and stow. You WILL crush your fingers ONCE while folding it up, but only once. Sorta like a child and a hot stove. Live and learn. I don't really see any way to redesign the edge to avoid this without making the Petstep more difficult to use. By the 3rd day I was able to deploy it from the back of the SUV in about 5 seconds, and stow it in about 10 seconds.

From a dog psychology standpoint, I found that even after using it for a year, Toby still wanted to leap off the ramp when he got halfway down. And his legs were not able to handle that, so I had to lead him down the ramp by holding his collar so he wouldn't try to jump off. In the end, it was prostate cancer that did him in. The Petstep is now stored in the garage and I'm sure we'll be using it again as soon as Lucy gets too old to jump in and out of the SUV on her own. But she's only 6 so she has a few more good years I think.

[+] 6.0 Not as sturdy as expected
When I read of the 500 lb weight tolerance, I was expecting a sturdier ramp. No way is this going to hold 500 lbs. I am a petite 127 lb woman and the ramp flexed and twisted as I tried to walk up the ramp spanning one deep step. This ramp is definitely not for human use. I don't think I'd trust it for a table with the leg kit. It would probably be fine for most dog purposes.

[+] 10.0 Great Solid Ramp
This ramp is very well made, sturdy and easy to use. I have a 60lb Terrier mix with arthritis that can not get in and out of our Nissan Pathfinder anymore without help. He was afraid to use the ramp at first, but I held his collar and coaxed him with treats. He navigates it with no problem now though I still always stand by with a hand on his collar. As others have mentioned, the non-skid surface is great! Though the ramp is expensive, I know it will last for years to come. Plus, it is worth every penny to have our best friend be able to enter in and out of the vehicle without fear or pain.

[+] 8.0 Rugged, supports the load
The plastic is thick enough not to flex or twist, and the shape of the end is good as it sits on the tailgate. Very stable.

[+] 8.0 Best Ramp Out There
The quality of this ramp is unsurpassed from everything I saw out in the stores. The rubber ledges to keep my 13yr old Golden from slipping will last a long time... Nothing stuck on here with simple tape and adhesive. I just wish they made a 10-12 foot ramp to go up more stairs for my back deck.

[+] 10.0 A Ramp for 3 Steps
I purchased this ramp for my almost blind, very arthritic 14 year old, 40 pound hound for use outside. It was very well constructed and easy to install. My dog just would not adjust to using it. I have used ramps before, having no problem with a shepherd or a lab. It had to be returned, since there was no way my dog was going to use it. I think mosly because of the blindness. Amazon graceously picked it up at my house and promptly gave me full credit. What a great company. I will continue to buy from Amazon with confidence and their customer satisfaction.

[+] 10.0 Had this for 10 years - love it!
I purchased this ramp a little over 10 years ago when I bought an SUV and did not want to lift my elderly 65 lb dog into the rear. He caught on right away and this worked so well he never missed his car. I got 2 puppies 8 years ago and still have the SUVs - didn't want to damage their puppy legs so have used this right along every single day into their older years! It has held up remarkably well and I can easily fold it and stow it in the back when it is not being used.

This has probably been the only item I have ever used on a daily basis and still have as much need as I had the first day I bought it! I have recommended this item to friends and they seem to think a ramp is ramp. Some of their ramps are too steep (short) for an SUV - some are too narrow for our 65 lb chows, and some get either slippery in the rain or hot in the summer. And some are hard to put away. This ramp doesn't have any of those limitations. I am pleased with this purchase and hope you will be too. And FYI - I paid about the same price 10 years ago!

[+] 10.0 Petstep is a great product
Sturdy yet lightweight and easy to use. Can set it up in seconds and from its construction will last many years. The ramp is skid resistant so the dogs have an easy time going up and down without slipping. Both dogs were on it at the same time adding up to close to 300 pounds and it supported the weight with no problem. One minor problem is if your not careful you can pinch your fingers in the hinge end as it can fold quickly as I found out.

[+] 8.0 Dog ramp
The ramp is very well made, it works great for my 100+ pound 12 yr old lab. It is quite large and heavy, so if your old like your dog it made not be the best choice and watch your fingers!

[+] 8.0 Used as "boarding ramp."
I am pleased with the petstep, though I don't think I'd trust it to the advertized 500 pound rating. Nonetheless, we use the ramp as a boarding ramp aboard our sailboat. It works nicely for this purpose. I did think the ramp came with a center locking device, however, such was not the case.

[+] 8.0 Helpful, but somewhat heavy
The PetStep ramp has a good angle and traction surface for our dog. It's sturdy enough for our 70 pound dog, but I find it slightly heavy and a bit awkward to fold and unfold. Allow for the storage space in your car when not in use.

[+] 10.0 Great for long-term outdoor use!
I searched for any ramp that mentioned it would be good for outdoor use. I could never find one that actually said so. But this one looked sturdy and durable and like it would hold up in the direct sun. I needed a permanent one for my senior dog to get down the back stairs. So far so good and I'm very happy. My boy still will not use it on his own, but if I point he will go up and down the ramp. The funny thing is, now he is running down next to the ramp, using it as a guide and isn't falling like he was. So it has a dual usage! I recommend this great product.

[+] 10.0 Great Customer Service
I ordered the ramp in mid February 2008 for my potbelly pigs because I'd just purchased a Dodge Caravan. It took several days for the pigs to get used to the new van and ramp but once they did it sure made life easy.

I work for a pet friendly company and my "3 little pigs" go to work with me each weekday and to the park on the weekends. They ride in the van everyday, so the ramp gets used at least twice a day.

After 5 months of use I thought I heard a crack as my 183 pound pig entered the van. I checked the ramp but didn't see any damage. Over the next few days it started to dip on the right side. I examined it again and found the crack.

I wrote to PetStep asking about it and they wrote back saying not to let my pigs use the ramp and they were sending me a new one right away.

The new one arrived a few minutes ago. I'm so impressed with both their ramp and their customer service that I thought it was time for me to write this review.

I've also posted a video of my pigs using the ramp.

[+] 8.0 Well-made but bulky to store in minivan
Our elderly Rotty-Lab is very large (160 lbs) and arthritic. Getting in and out of our Volvo Wagon, or our even higher Dodge Caravan, was very difficult for her. Nor was it a simple matter to lift her, as you can imagine.

Initially, she would avoid the ramp; if we tried to guide her up it, she would jump off. Our front door has one stone step so we put the ramp here for a few days and she walked up and down it without any problem. We then switched it back to the cars and she used it readily and easily. It is stable, sturdy, has a non-slip surface, and is easy to fold up. We had read the "squashed finger" review and were concerned that would be a problem. In fact, we had no problem like that.

The only negative is that the folded ramp takes up more space than we would like in the Volvo wagon. It is no problem with the Caravan, however. Given the size and weight of our dog, the fact that the folded ramp is bulky is a problem we're willing to live with--particulary to get such a strong well-made ramp.

[+] 10.0 How Do You Get a 120 LB Retriever into a Truck?
The dog was always apprehensive about getting into the truck. I'd try to lift him up while he was trying to jump in and somebody always got whacked. We were going on vacation so we needed something that was easy to use and would support his weight. I was worried that this might be too flimsy but this product worked great. The dog would start up the ramp while I was still trying to set it up. It folded easily and I never got close to pinching my fingers. I read that some people have had an issue with that but I didn't. I highly recommend this product. BTW, the dog is on a diet.

[+] 8.0 Does what it claims
We have a 9 year old lab mix who has terrible arthritis, making it tough for him to jump up into my Toyota Highlander. But he loves to go on walks. I recently pulled out my back trying to lift him up into the car (he weighs about 80 pounds), so I was looking for a solution to make it easier to take him to our local nature trails where he is allowed to run off lead. This unit works very well and I highly recommend it.

After reading review of this and other products, I chose the Petstep. There is nothing to do for assembly, although it was delivered with bracing that allows you to lock the unit in the unfolded position. It is slightly awkward to fold and unfold, but given what it is designed to do, I can't imagine any way to build it that would make it easier, except perhaps to add handles to the sides.

The unit folds and unfolds pretty easily. There is a spring loop catch to hold it closed. I don't know how long that will last, but it seems adequate. It is not so heavy that lifting it into the car is a problem. I usually put the dogs in the cargo area and then the ramp fits on the floor of the back seat.

The ramps is pretty solid when unfolded. The treads are rubberized for traction. The unit is rated for 250 or 300 pounds, so I decided to try it myself. At 200 pounds, when I walked up it, it felt a bit unstable, especially at the center. For the dog, though, it is perfectly adequate.

I did not find much merit to those who claim there is a pinching hazard. It would be odd to have your fingers placed anywhere near the crush points while folding this. And there are clear labels warning of the hazard.

[+] 8.0 great product
Our chocolate lab goes right up the ramp into his crate in the back of our Sienna minivan. It is long enough so that the incline is not too steep. The only negative feedback is that the spring that holds it together pops off sometimes and needs to be put back on. Other than that, it works fine.

[+] 10.0 Extremely sturdy and useful ramp
I was skeptical when I got this ramp that my two dogs would like to use it, or even be able to. Boy, was I surprised! This ramp is really wide, and has a great non-skid surface. The heaviness is actually a plus, because it does not move when the dogs walk up it. I led them up it every day for a few days, then just sat on the tailgate and watched them walk up the ramp on their own. No treats, they just like to get in the truck. I was surprised because I had previously tried steps, and they would not use them. But the ramp seems easy for them to walk up. Some people have said it is hard to set up and use, they are afraid of getting pinched, etc. My experience was, that I learned to use it TOTALLY automatically after a few weeks. I was careful at first. This is a very high quality, heavy duty ramp.

[+] 8.0 Juneau uses it!
Thank you for sending the PetSTEP II. Juneau is a 125lb, 8 1/2 year old male Alaskan Malamute. Juneau skittishly walks on tile or wood floors, so purchasing this product was a gamble. When I received the PetSTEP II, within days of placing my order, thank you for prompt delivery. I immediately unfolded the ramp and placed it on my patio deck extending down to the dirt below. Juneau who can be stubborn at times walked down the ramp cautiously and received a treat and some "good boys"! Walking him back up wasn't so easy, but he eventually got the hang of it. After several treats and "good boys", we moved the ramp to the truck bed and repeated the process. Months later he still needs treats and "good boys" to walk up the ramp, coming down is no problem.

In retrospect, I am happy with my PetSTEP II ramp and would recommend this product to others. I like the multi-use design and will be ordering some of the accessories. I now see the benefits of having pets use a ramp and wish I had purchased this years ago! Thank you!!!

[+] 10.0 very sturdy
We purchased this ramp for our 6yr old basset hound. His hind legs just couldn't get up the three steps to get in our house. (it's the only way, lol) so after much research we went for it. This ramp is solid it can definately hold weight, and my kids love it...the dog however was a little stubborn, but with some treats, coaxing, and a few bad days of aching, he began to use the ramp on his own. The rubber surface is great, we leave ours outside on the step so fred (the dog) can use it daily. It has held up to rain so far, and doesn't move around either. I will say if you are using in a car it is alittle cumbersome, but solid. So overall this is a great ramp, that has let our basset get up the steps pain free.

[+] 10.0 Bulletproof Ramp
This is one SOLID ramp. It performs as advertised. Being rugged and solid, it IS heavy but, much preferred to an aluminum alternative. Note to Boaters: I use this ramp with a pontoon boat to access the dock or shore. It works well either way. It's indispensable when our boat is nudged up to the beach. Everyone walks down with ease, including the dog.

[+] 10.0 excellent product
I am very happy with this ramp. I think the only negative comment is that it might pinch your fingers, but this has not been a problem for me at all. It is very sturdy and the rubber coating on the surface makes it easy for my Lab to go up and down without slipping. If you are looking for a ramp this is a very good one.

[+] 4.0 Great Stationary
This product is great if it will be stationary but I found it difficult to set up everytime I put my shepard into our suv. He goes with us everywhere. I found the ramp to be bulky and heavy. With twins in the car as well, there is not much room to bring the ramp with us - wherever we go.

[+] 4.0 Nice idea, BUT...
I bought mine 4 yrs ago, so I may have the previous incarnation. The handle broke off almost immediately, which made the ramp extremely unwieldy for a short plump middle-aged woman to work with. Then the cotter pin got lost. My English mastiff did like using it at first; now however, at 12 yrs old, he can't see the edges of the ramp & stumbles over the sides unless I guide each footstep. It needs to be wider for giant breeds; he's on the small side for a mastiff -- 160 lbs & 27" tall. So be aware of what the design drawbacks may be. I now can use only one half of the ramp & that's really too steep an angle for my boy getting in & out of my Honda Odyssey. And I'm sorry, but 19 lbs is NOT LIGHTWEIGHT!! Not when you're hauling it in & out of a van!

[+] 6.0 Pet Step
As far as I know this is the only product of its kind for pool use so alternative choices are limited at best. Overall the design is functional but there are a few big short comings: It's not truly stable just resting on the lip of the pool, we had to rig ours to keep it from tipping over or slipping off the edge. You must use the optional Pool Legs which already show signs of oxidation after a day or two in the water. The rubber caps on the legs are useless, they popped off immediately and we had to fit the legs with two tennis balls as end caps to protect the pool liner. So with some modifications it works but out of the box it comes up a bit short of expectations

[+] 10.0 TERRIFIC FOR EVEN AN OLDER DOG
Ok, I was worried that my smart golden retriever would be able to learn this "new trick." As with any command, gentle reassurance, praise and treats, our 10-year-old golden loves her new "toy." What a joy to not see her "worry" about trying to jump into my SUV!

[+] 4.0 Useful but a hazard to the user
It looked like a great Idea, just what I needed to get my older golden in and out of my jeep. Problem is, there is a serious crush hazard because of the weight and design. There is a finger "crush area" near the hinges where a user would most likely grasp the ramp to fold it. I have mashed fingers several times and sustained a moderately serious crushed finger the last time I used it. If I can't make it safe with a saw, then out it goes. It's too dangerous for anyone in my family to use.

[+] 10.0 Perfect for an older pet
We have a 15 year old Caridgan Welsh Corgi who can't do stairs any more because she has a bad shoulder and a bad hip. But we have two steps at the front door, where she needs to go out.

After shopping a LOT I found the PetStep ramp. I liked the fact that it's approved by the ASPCA, and ordered one.

The ramp is well made of very sturdy plastic construction. We leave it set up outside all the time, and it's clear that it will last. The instructions that come with it say that it will hold 250 pounds and I believe it. A very nice feature is that the center part of the ramp, where the dog walks, is a rubberized material, making it easy walking.

With a little training, our Kendall can now get herself up and down the ramp. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! We taught her by leading her up and down the ramp by holding a dog snack a couple of feet in front of her, then giving it to her when she completed the trip. Then we gradually replaced the dog treats with petting, hungs and congratuations--which she liked even better than the treats. These days a "good dog" does the trick.
