The controller has a heavier feel to it than the issued one for PS3. What can I say that wasn't mentioned on other reviews. This product works great. My only gripe is that PS3 should have made the dualshock the issued controller.
The controller works beautifully, and the extra weight on the controller doesn't make much of a difference. Though it does feel a bit sturdier than the non-dualshock ones.

Better than Sixxaxis control
This control dos not have nothing special, especially if you had used the Dual Shock 2 in the past. It is practically the same Sixaxis control but the vibration mode has incorporated and the weight is slightly heavy compared to Sixaxis control. It is very sensitive and very comfortable. The battery has a long life (runs out after 6 hours of intensive use).

No complaints; much better than I expected
I'd always been an XBox guy. One of the things I preferred about the XBox compared to the Playstation was the controller. It's got a big, meaty controller that fills out your hands nicely, while I always felt like previous Playstation controllers felt light, cheap and flimsy. Well, a couple months ago, I bought a PS3. I needed a Blu-ray player and I figured I might as well spend a little extra and get a gaming system with it too. What I like about the Dual Shock Sixaxis is that it's a little heavier than previous controllers, and it just feels solid and sturdy in your hands. The buttons are nice and responsive, and they're well-placed from an ergonomic standpoint. Highly recommended.

Classics die hard
Who didn't cringe a bit when Sony unveiled the unsightly, boomerang controller with the PS3, oh so many years ago? So when it was revealed that the controller was going to be the same shape & function as the DualShock 2, I let out a huge sigh of relief. But my relief was tempered by the announcement that there was to be no 'shock' in the new wireless controller. "Oh well," I thought, "At least it still 'looks' like the dual shock." But then I heard that the reason for no 'shock' was that it wasn't compatible with the sixaxis feature. Now I'm no electronics engineer, but I know enough to know that there are ways to counter such incompatibilities.
I thought correctly when they released the DualShock 3, Sony's next gen gamer's Excalibur. Same awesome design that fits oh so perfectly in my hand, same game enhancing vibration function as the DS2, and now with the sixaxis control feature & it's wireless! What more do I need to say about it? Sure there are other after market controllers out there for less money, but why?

Excellent Remote.
Lightweight remote with rumble feature, which is what should have been included in the original packages.
The contact under the square button was messed up and degraded over 1 day till it eventually didn't work. Got it replaced and no problems with my current one.
This had the strongest vibration out of the next-gen consoles, and feels pretty cool when combined with the six-axis control. One thing that bothers me is the joystick placement; it doesn't fell natual, but I got used to it.
It's a Dual Shock 3 controller. It works and does what is supposed to. Yay!

Wireless Perfection
If you've used a Sony Playstation at any point over the last 10 or so years you pretty much know what to expect with the Dualshock 3. The size, shape and layout of the DS3 is almost identical to the original Dualshock controller that was released for the Playstation 1. Chances are if you liked using any of the previous Sony brand controllers you'll also enjoy using the Dualshock 3. Similarly, if any of the previous Dualshock controllers weren't quite right for you then you'll probably dislike the DS3.
Slight changes have been made to the shoulder buttons and the addition of a'PS' button allows for quick start-up and shutdown of the PS3 as well as access to the PS3 X-Cross Media Bar.
The L2 & R2 shoulder buttons are now less 'button' and more 'trigger'. Personally I'm mixed on the new layout. The trigger design works great in certain games such as racing games; but can be less than perfect for platforming or action games.
The DS3 features the exact same motion sensitivity featured in the Sony SIXAXIS controller for the PS3. The major addition of the DS3 being the rumble feature. In using the DS3 for approximately 6 months it has become my controller of choice. Simply put the DS3 offers a level of immersion into games that the SIXAXIS cannot offer. The actual amount of rumble varies from game to game and many games even offer the ability to adjust the rumble feedback.
Also improved over the SIXAXIS is the feel of the DS3 controller. Because of the added weight afforded by the rumble mechanism the DS3 feels heavier and more appropriate than the lightweight SIXAXIS.
Because the DS3 is wireless it relies on a built-in battery to power the controller. Battery life is comparable to that afforded by the SIXAXIS which is approximately 8-10 hours. In my experience charging the DS3 to a full charge takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
The DS3 relies on Blutooth technology to power the wireless feature. Range is excellent and advertised to be about 30ft. Suffice to say that I've never experienced a problem with regards to wireless range.
All told the DS3 is the premier Playstation controller. Well built and sturdy the controller will last through many gaming sessions. I highly recommend the DS3 to any gamer.

amazon.com does not back their sales.
I wasn't happy with it because I ordered a PS-3 and never received it. So now i'm stuck with some thing I can't use. What happened to the PS -3? I didn't get a review for that. I was not treated fairly on this. Why didn't I receive the PS-3 i ORDERED?????????????
Well, this thing is very familiar. The controller feels better because it's got a little more heft and weight. But the battery runs out probably twice as fast, whereas I charged my Sixaxis about once a week, I'm charging the Dual Shock 3 probably twice a week. And I thought I remember Sony and Immersion talking about how they had some "new and more precise" rumble technology, so far it feels like the old same stuff. The only reason I bought this thing was because of the amazing sale Amazon had.

Pretty much what I expected
If you had the ps2 dualshock2 controller then nothing is going to change that much. The dualshock3 gives pretty strong vibration for being wireless, comparable to the dualshock2. I know for a fact that a full charge will last at least 7 hours (I haven't tested beyond 7 hours). It's a fair bit heavier than the normal ps3 sixaxis controllers as you might expect. The only real cons I can think of is that Sony should have rolled these babies out with the release of the ps3, and the price.

GREAT CONTROLLER!
THIS CONTROLLER IS GREAT! IT WORKS WITH THE MAJORITY OF MY PS2 GAMES. I HAVE NOT REALLY TESTED IT WITH PS3 GAMES BUT THE NEW ONES COMING OUT SHOULD WORK WITH IT! IT ALSO FEELS A LITTLE HEAVIER THAN THE REGULAR PS3 CONTROLLER BUT THATS DUE TO THE BATTERIE IN IT AS WELL AS THE VIBRATING FUNCTION! GET THIS CONTROLLER, YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH!!!!!!

Where's the $*%&^# cord?!
Seriously? This thing doesn't come with a cord?! Thank you, Sony for finding a new source of revenue. And a special shout out to Amazon for never mentioning that THIS THING DOESN'T COME WITH A CORD. A USB cord is never even featured in the "Accessories" or "Buy With" or "Customers Also Bought" sections. Thanks a million.
This review is simple, a no-brainer. Buy this controller for your PS3. Feel the game. Sony makes great products and this is a quality controller.
I had the Sixaxis and after I got the dualshock 3, the way I felt about my games changed. Being able to feel explosions, falls, vibrations from driving, etc. is nothing short of a thrill. I played most of my games again after I got the controller and instantly enjoyed them more. Even after having it for a month, I'm still in amazement. The only reason why i didn't give this item a 5 was simply due to the price. I shouldn't have to decide between a new game or controller, it was $54.99 when I brought it. Anything under $45 is certainly reasonable

PS3 Wireless Controller
You will need this for two players, works GREAT, easy to charge and use
and Amazon does a good job on pricing and shipping
Wireless was the greatest idea for the PS3. It's so much better without the wires. You don't trip over wires and you aren't at risk of accidentally pulling your system off the shelf. Plus this controller has the Dualshock feature which allows rumbling. It's definately better than just the SixAxis plain controller. Plus I love the feature where you can turn the PS3 on or off with your controller plus ejecting the disk. Great Buy.

Great Controller!!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
That philosophy might not work on everything, but it definitely worked for the playstation's controller. I'm so glad Sony stuck with their previous design for their ps3 controllers, and the Dualshock 3 is absolutely wonderful.
The controller's design is more of a personal preference for individuals and personally, I like it. I've been playing the ps1 and ps2 for quite sometime now and so I've gotten very used to the controller's shape and feel.
The build quality is excellent. The controller felt solid and I like the extra weight it has in regards to the original sixaxis. The triggers feel pretty good as well.
The rumble feels good. Some people say it's not as strong as the ps2's controllers and I think I did notice a difference, but it still provides a satisfying shake when needed.
Battery Life: I didnt notice any significant change in battery life in the DS3 as opposed to the Sixaxis even though it has the rumble feature but then again, sometimes I just leave it attached to the cord.
A very good controller, especially when you play MGS4, you can feel all emotions that the game generate.

Selling this without the cable you need to use it is insulting. If you're paying $50 for this this you can afford the cable, but getting it out of the box and having to go back and find a cable is an annoyance. Be warned.

The PS3 Is Perfect And So Are The Controls
OK, now we're in the generation of gaming with motion sensitive controlling, which has become a worldwide phenomena thanks to the Wiii. With the PS3 Sony have utilised the motion sensitive gaming whilst keeping the conventionally easy PS3 controller. The SIXAXIS controls of the PS3 pad allow game producers to implement certain motion sensitive aspects to their games, without it becoming too much for those less active gamers.
The Dualshock controllers have been a part of the Playstation generation since the beginning and now they have the Dualshock 3. A controller that reacts with vibrations at certain instances within the game. Say if you're using the SIXAXIS while playing a driving game, you're steering the car with the motion sensing turned on, and you collide with a wall. The pad would vibrate with the same level of ferocity of how you hit the wall, in a sense giving you that additional level of realism.
The battery life and size are also something I want to touch upon with the wireless PS3 pads. A full charge can literally give you more than 12 hours of solid gaming, and when compared to the wireless XBOX360 pads, the PS3 version is minute. It's light and just generally easy to hold when compared to the bulky and annoying XBOX360 pad.
If you have a PS3, you should definitely own a wireless pad. So buy it.

Worth the price? No USB Cable included?
I purchased this controller to have a second controller for my PS3 to take on my friends.
It may be a small thing but ording this controller for the price it doesn't come with the USB cabel to charge the batteries.
May not be much but when it's promoted as:
"Can be charged at any time through the PlayStation 3 system using the controller's USB cable."
It's a bit 'CHEAP' Sony can't include another USB cable for $50+
Kind of like selling a $500 Playstation with only one controller in the first place.
I haven't been impressed with the "Rumble" feature in this unit in the first. Had metal gear solid 4 when it first came up and.
"Not a whole lot shakin' going on to be worth mentioning.
Good controller, it has rumble and sixaxis and its chunkier, which feels better. I prefered over the normal sixaxis.
By far the worst Rumble i have ever felt in a controller. my xbox controller, if put on a flat surface will jolt around everywhere and move around suggesting great rumble. I love my PS3 but this is the worst accessory the rumble is so weak!!!! This sits still on a flat surface compared to the wonderful rumble of the glory that is Xbox 360

Dualshock designed to fit the hands of a child, Not a man's hand
Background: I'm 30 and haven't had a console system since Super Nintendo, PC games were just fine and cheaper. This year I wanted one and I couldn't decide XBOX or PS3. I bought both.
Review: It does what is expected but I find myself having a hard time holding the controller, Especially when trying to use the lower Left and Right buttons(L2 and R2).
It barely fits in my hands. My hands hurt after a half hour from gripping it so tight it doesn't fall out of my hands. I can wear a medium sized glove, Large is a better fit, but you understand what I am trying to convey. I don't have abnormally large hands. It was NOT designed for American sized men.

Two major flaws... Get the Nyko Zero instead
The controller is great, if it were 5 years ago. It's not horrible but compared to good ergonomic controllers today, Sony needs to update this dated design ASAP. They addressed the 3rd major flaw which was the missing rumble, so there's hope they will fix the rest of the problems.
Spend a few hours playing with an Xbox 360 controller and you'll see what I mean. The 360 controller has a "in the slot" feel that is just natural and comfortable after many hours. Too bad the 360 controller, "best controller ever made", is paired to the worst console ever made, I'm on my 3rd 360, lol.
Problem 1:
Non-user replaceable internal Li-ion battery. Before you get all huffy and puffy about this, I am aware you can take apart the controller to replace the battery. But if you have to take apart something (and need instructions) to replace the battery that ain't "user replaceable" in my book. Sony should go the AA battery route. Rechargeable AA batteries are plentiful, have universal applications, and can go through 2x the charge cycle as Li-ions before noticeable degradation of performance. Also with the new Ni-MH Low Self Discharge (LSD) batteries (like the Sanyo Eneloops) the batteries can hold their charge, which was a big reason why manufacturers liked to use Li-ions. Contrary to what you read Li-ions only go about 400-500 full charge-discharge cycles before they start fading vs. over 1000 for the LSD rechargeables. I also read people complain about the weight of controllers, what? How weak can you be to be complaining about a controller being too heavy at a few ounces??? I like a controller that feels solid and the original Six-Axis was way to cheap feeling. People also complain that the battery compartment in the middle of the back of the 360 controller "gets in the way". Um, how exactly do you hold the controller for it to get in the way? Like a fan or something? Whatever.
Sony want to make it difficult to change the battery in hopes that you will just buy another controller. Don't let them get away with this.
Problem 2:
Erogonomics, it's just getting old. Not horrible, but not great. And for $55-$60 you're paying for a high end controller which you deserve but instead you're getting a mediocre one. It looks nice but that's about it, unless you really need that Sony label.
-The D-pad needs to be circular, games like Street Fighter work better with the circular pads, why do you think Hori makes dedicated Street Fighter controllers with circular pads for the Playstation?
-The analog stick needs to be concave at the top (indented) instead of the convex (mushroom like top). It's too easy to slip.
-The trigger button should be like a gun trigger, slightly curved outwards and thinner so your finger can sort of wrap around it.
-The handles should be a bit rounder or thicker. It's too flat and you can't really grab onto the controller like you can with the 360/Nyko.
-The buttons are too flat. They need to be rounded so you can tap them from sharp angles.
Basically Sony needs to get off their duff and copy the Xbox 360's controller design. I can't believe they actually thought that boomerang controller design was good. You gotta wonder who is heading their controller design department.
Sony did a great job with the console, now they just need to make a controller that is worthy of the PS3.
I gave the lowest possible rating because of the price of this controller and the fact that Sony has been sitting on this design forever and not willing to improve on it. Yes it was a great design when it came out many years ago, but now they have to get over themselves and realize they need to make improvements. I've use this design since the original PS1 and loved it until the 360 came out. There's much better alternatives out there at better prices.
The Nyko Zero (get the one with rumble) addresses all of these problems and is the best controller for the PS3 right now. It has a few issues of it's own but are minor compared to the fundamental problems with the PS3's controller. And it comes with a rechargeable battery pack AND a cover if you want use AA batteries and it's cheaper, go figure.
I'm probably going to angry response from the Sony faithful (I guess I am one too but I buy all the consoles) with this review but you really should try out the other controllers and not just for a few minutes. Buy one and see what you've been missing out on.
Great controller. I prefer it over the original Sixaxis. Feels heavier in my hands. Rumble works great too.

This is the Sony brand PS3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller. The design on this controller is pretty much the same style as the PS2 controller. The only difference is the AXIS function. Which will allow you to tilt the controller in 2D.
