Product Specifications

Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

This is my favorite music to listen to while meditating. Not distracting at all, but rather the haunting flute sounds lead to a very deep inner place.

[+] 10.0 soothing music
The music on this CD is wonderfully quiet, reflective, contemplative. I ordered this to help me sleep while going through the grief from the death of my husband. It provided a wonderfully peaceful ambience and helped a lot.

[+] 10.0 Massage Music
I use this cd when I am doing massage for clients. It is very relaxing and all of my clients can drift off to another place for an hour. Its pretty generic music so all can enjoy.

[+] 6.0 Lots of echo
I enjoyed this CD, but just to throw in a contrarian review, I found the echo mastering to be a little bit annoying. I kept thinking, that this is such beautiful flute music, and I wish I could hear it straight, without the artificial echo. I'm certain though that the echo is part of the reason many people love this disc.

[+] 10.0 A journey to the mountain top!
Nakai has produced a masterpiece for all of his listeners. This work is of unbelievable clarity and quality. The editing and mastering is superb and he is to be commended. The "canyon effect" is out of this world. A must-buy for fans of Nakai. Free Leonard Peltier!

[+] 10.0 A Must Have - Relaxing and beautiful music
The first time I heard this CD was at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Fl. They were playing it over the loudspeaker. The Zoo's store was sold out and I know why. I play this CD all the time. I'm surprised it's not worn out. It reminds me of the time I sat on the mountain top at the Grand Canyon and imagined all the Indians there with me. The flute music echos, just like you are in a canyon. It's beautiful. I highly recommend this CD. A very talented R. Carlos Nakai has outdid himself with this CD.

[+] 10.0 Hauntingly beautiful
I first heard of R. Carlos Nakai on the music channel I have on cable and I instantly fell in love with his music. This album is simply amazing, it's beauty is haunting and I can't begin to tell everyone how very pleased I am with my purchase of this cd. Every song is a masterpiece and the fact that each song is played in a canyon/cave adds to the mysterious quality of the music. This is a great album for anyone who is interested in Native American flute music and Nakai is the best in this genre.

[+] 10.0 AWESOME Native American Flute Music!
R. Carlos Nakai is the best of the best among those playing Native American flute, and this C.D. is his absolute best. It transports one into higher dimensions and brings peace. I can't say enough good stuff about this C.D. I had wanted it for years and I finally got it! It was worth the wait.

[+] 10.0 Musical peace....
The pure tones of this native American flute are beautiful and calming, transporting me to a place of peace and well-being. In fact, I sometimes listen to it at bedtime as I fall asleep. It is elemental music at its best.

[+] 10.0 Too lovely and too mystical to describe!
I like the dubbing on the equipment where the flute re-echoes on sound waves. It feels as though flutes were singing through out the ancient Anasazi dwellings and the peoples were raising thier arms as if to touch mystical beings. This music puts me into almost a haunting state and imagination where ancient spirits seem to revive. This is very tranquil and too rich for even verbal poetry.

[+] 10.0 A layer to add to nature, too
Normally I only consider reviewing something if no one else has done a reasonable review, and for this recording there are plenty good and accurate descriptions and endorsements for this album. In the other reviews I saw, there is talk about its use in places with massage, meditation, yoga, as well as at home to relax and so forth. I found that it is also a great replacement for most other kinds of music one may play when out camping or otherwise in nature. It can blend into nearly any outdoor moment so the part of our brain that is accoustomed to hearing a background of played music will be sated and the rest of the mind can open to the nature you are in at the moment. So if you're the kind of person that likes being in nature, give it a try in that setting.

Of all the Nakai recordings I have tried, this is my favorite.

Oh yea, and I saw a person review to say it was "boring, boring, boring" - it can get that reaction for sure if a listener's sonic taste palette cannot appreciate selections in the realm of ambient, new age, or native american flute, specifcally. So it goes. Meanwhile, this is one CD for which I get a lot of positive reactions from people that hear it for the first time.

[+] 10.0 Wonderful IntroTo Mehdi
I've always enjoyed Nakai and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of Mehdi (pronounced meddie). After an online search I found their site (SoothingMusic - Com) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times, I really must say that although I'm still a Carlos Nakai fan, I find Mehdi to be a great addition to this CD. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

[+] 10.0 Well worth buying
This CD is well worth buying. Out of all the Native American Flute Music CD's I own, this one is my favorite. The best word I can properly use to describe this CD is soothing.

[+] 10.0 A VERY SOULFUL SALVE
Whether I am looking for a soft silken background for massage, or for sitting down with a cup of a coffee in my balconey as the day decides to break, this mesmerizing compilation of native American flute sounds always manages to put the en in chanting. The entire collection is imbued with a peaceful spirit that transports me to another time and place, a place of simplicity, truth, and so much beauty. If I sound mushy, well that is how this leaves me. To be fair, if you listen to the entire album it may feel a touch monotonous, but that is not what you do with ambient music anyway. An absolutely worthy purchase. This will stay with you for a while.

[+] 6.0 Canyon Trilogy
I found that the music was slightly depressing and significantly similar in sound so that towards the end of the CD I was just as happy to have it end.
