The most amazing invention in the world!
This is the greatest invention in the universe!
You can play your own music, get fans and earn millions!
It's good for rainy days, holidays, and just a regular day.
It's fun, educational and it teaches you some music.
Well, this game has awful graphics. They look like Pacman! Awful. Very outdated. And the set list has too much oldies crap like Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, etc... However, it does have some awesome bands like Disturbed, System Of A Down, Linkin Park and Paramore. I can't believe they have some old Metallica sons on it! They should've included "Some Kind Of Monster" from St. Anger instead. Any why no Limp Bizkit?!
Why the heck are the set lists on these music games from the 60's, 70's, and 80's? 80's sure but barely any music is from the 90's or 2000's. I like playing these games but I don't think I'm alone when I say we need more recent music to play to. I know I'll never get my ALL metal Rock Band or GH with bands like Devildriver, Sepultura, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, etc., etc., but c'mon; Allman Bros., Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac, Los Lobos, Journey??!! Really!!?? What's up with the oldies? They're not really "Rock legends" to anyone under 30 years old. I'm fine with bands like 311, Filter, Disturbed, and even Blink 182 but there should be more of the "now" music. It seems that the newer these games get, the older the set lists get. If the set list was actual music I would listen to or at least listened to in the last ten years, my rating would be higher. I think instead of the up to date titles being few and far between, it should be the other way around. Basically, I found myself looking forward to the end of most songs rather then enjoying them because they were just plain boring. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the instruments themselves. They're fun to play but only until you get sick of playing your 56 year old fathers favorite music. (P.S. By the way, yes I know Machine Head and Lamb Of God have been in GH, I just have a dream of an ALL METAL HEAD version someday.)

Better than the first, but not quite as much new as I'd hoped.
They fixed all the problems with Rock Band and made it better, but the character system hasn't changed much at all, and some other things in the game don't look like they've had much done to them. It was still worth the buy, especially for those who don't own RB1. The new instruments are also much, much better.
Great new game, should have better songs selection & sucks that there are some songs on this game that are also on guitar hero world tour!!!!

Better than the first Rock Band!
I loved the original Rock Band. Rock Band 2 is even better! Lots of improvements and many more songs!
A lot like the first Rockband but with some new songs. I really liked the individual difficulty ratings too

Worthy Successor
Rock Band 2 is an excellent sequel to the original. Most of the minor quibbles with the first title has been solved. For instance, the band is tied to your account instead of a single character so you can use the band of anyone playing with you. More clothing options have been added, including the ability to add art to certain shirts, allowing you to really customize your look. The art in the game is excellent and the menus are all very quick. It doesn't revolutionize things the way RB1 did, it just cleaned up all the messy parts of the original. The training is much improved and the drum simulator is very cool.
Of note: if you have a copy of Rock Band 1 you can transfer all those tracks [...] for use in Rock Band 2. You can rent it, or borrow it from a friend, and all it requires is 400 MS points and the game will rip all the RB1 tracks to your HDD. You can delete any unwanted RB1 tracks at any time. All downloaded songs (even for RB1) will work with RB2. If you own RB1, I don't see how you could rationalize putting off this purchase. You know how good RB1 is, and this is better.

It's hard to make a sequel better than the original but they did.
I loved the first one and this one is even better.
They made selecting the songs easier. Now you can see the difficulty of songs per instrument.
Added band challenges for a third way to play the game.
If you like the first your really going to like this one. It's better.
I purchase this game for my son,and I have to say I love it just as much as he does, songs are great.
I have the first Rock band so when the second one came out I was so excited to get it. It is so much fun. You can transfer songs from the first Rock Band onto the second one. You can also use the instruments from the first Rock Band to the second. It is worth the money. Fun Fun Game.

This game rules !
The fact that you can play all the songs on rock band 1 on rock band 2 is amazing! thats why guitar hero is not doin to well in my book. If you have the first rock band, then this game is a must have because you dont have to buy new plastic instruments to play it! It has really good music on it too.

Improved Options
They simply made it more enjoyable. The Online Challenges encourage new music and practice, which have forced me to re-invent my approach to playing the game. Plus, they did it right. Allowing backwards compatability was the ultimate and the small fee for ripping old tracks was a brilliant ploy to get me to buy the 120GB drive.

Best game for xbox 360 hands down
This is by far the best game I own currently. I'm a drummer in real life (I even own my own drumset) and this game adds to everything I loved from Rockband 1. If you even sorta liked rockband 1 - this game you will love. Not only does it add 104 or so songs to your library but you can transfer almost all (all but 3) of your rockband 1 songs over for a small fee as well. Plus EVERY aspect of the game is improved. The songs alone are worth the sticker price. I could go on and on and on - but in short - if you're even thinking about it - GET IT!!! It's worth it.

A must for original fans or those new to the series.
By now everyone has heard of the game that swept the nation by allowing you to play as your favorite rocker or create an original one and play your favorite rock songs. Well, Rock Star is back and it improves upon its predecessor by offering a number of new features. Features like on line multi player. This is a much welcomed addition to the series. No longer are you bound to search for friends to experience this game - just find them on line. Rock Band 2 presents a fully loaded jukebox at your disposal (84 songs), plus you are able to download songs from their website. There is a tradeoff, however. You first must unlock the songs before you are able to play them.....you unlock them by playing through the solo instrument tours.
The gamplay has also been updated from its predecessor. By increasing the difficulties of the songs, your accomplishments in the game feel truly earned and the level of satisfaction you'll feel when you finally master songs from artists like Metallica, is truly something. Ah, gratification....it's such an overlooked feature in most games. Another great addition to the series are specifically oriented challenges. This feature keeps the game fresh and is an outlet when a tough songs is wiping you out. But the single greatest improvement is that you are no longer restricted to the guitar....you can play other instruments, or just go at it karaoke style.

Same as RB1, but still good
I had high expectations for this game, thinking that Harmonix would have learned from the first and improved. After playing the first song I was very disappointed to see that the gameplay is almost identical to RB1. I had hoped for some smoother guitar mechanics, because I believe that the Guitar Hero guitar blows this away, however it is exactly the same as the first, it is still hard to do things such as hammer ons, solos I can easily play in Guitar Hero I fail on this game.
The song list is very impressive, and I was pleased to see that the beginning songs are a little harder than RB1. It was also kind of cool that all of my downloaded songs automatically appeared on the song list. All of the game modes from RB1 return, and are exactly the same as on RB1. There is a new mode called battle of the bands, and there is a challenge mode which both seemed kind of pointless.
Overall I think that this game should have been called Rock Band 1.5 because it does not at all feel like a new game. There is almost no improvements, and the only thing you are really paying for is the new songs. I will most likely be selling this game after I beat it, to get money for Guitar Hero World Tour which looks much more promising.

BEST PARTY GAME EVER!
If you liked Guitar Hero or the original Rock Band, then this game is a must buy. And if you have never tried it, you owe it to yourself to unleash your inner rock star.
Mainly this game offers a ton of new music. It comes with 85 songs on the disc and a code to download 20 more. Plus for about $5 you can copy all the songs from Rock Band 1 over to play! They have plans to offer 500 songs for this game by the end of 2008. And the cost for downloading new songs is way cheaper than Guitar Hero.
It's a fun game to play alone, but it is a really fun game to play with friends or at parties. They have also added a no fail mode so you can get through songs no matter how bad one person might be!

Don't support exclusivity deals
Exclusivity deals like the 360 version of Rock Band 2 hurts the industry. Either buy Rock Band 2 for another console or hold off buying until the forced exclusivity ends. Purchasing during the 360 exclusive window will encourage deals like this and continue to hurt the console game market.

Best Party Game Ever, Take 2
Rock Band 2 is, in a nutshell, Rock Band 1 with improvements. Better song selection (no covers?!), better features (no instrument or band lock, for example), better graphics (the backgrounds and character selection are tweaked and improved significantly), better experience overall. My old drumset, mike, Rock Band guitar and GH3 Wireless Guitar all work FLAWLESSLY, and I can't imagine I won't pick up and try out the new drums soon. As with the previous Rock Band, the folks over at Harmonix know how to make you feel like you're actually playing the song rather than playing the game. This is why the Rock Band series is still the undisputed king of rhythm games.
Really, the whole of the review can be summarized as this - Did you like Rock Band? Yeah? Then buy 2. NOW.
