Product Specifications

The Samsung 906BW 19-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 19-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack.

With 16.7 million colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 906BW is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.285-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 2000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicColor to improve hue and saturation of colors. This function also adjusts mid-level colors to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. By enhancing the contrast ratio with MagicColor, fresh images with exceptional clarity spring to life, even on a darker screen.

Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 906BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future. Whatever the signal sources are, this monitor will process those signals to give you an optimal viewing experience. In addition, this monitor features a standard D-Sub 15-pin connection and a fast DVI-D connection for your high-resolution demands.

Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems (including Microsoft Vista's Premium standards) and an ultra-fast 2ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Plus, with Samsung you have Magic Technologies, such asMagicBright3 and MagicTune, right at your fingertips. MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment depending on the contents of the image you are watching, and MagicTune is Samsung's OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides a simple, convenient adjustment to the best image quality. The 906BW is designed to meet VESA standards to accommodate any display type. This monitor is both wall and arm mountable, so it fits almost any environment on your desk or the wall.

  • 19-inch widescreen monitor offers a 160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle
  • 2000:1 contrast ratio and 0.285-millimeter pixel pitch produce crisp, easy-to-view images
  • Dual interface (analog/digital) design also includes D-Sub 15-pin and DVI-D connections
  • Samsung MagicBright3 and MagicTune functions create an optimum viewing environment
  • Samsung MagicColor and 16.7 million colors deliver a clearer, brighter image

[+] 2.0 Fatal Flaws for Macbook
I bought this monitor to use as an external monitor to my Macbook, which runs Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard). The resolution is supposed to be 1440x900, but with my macbook, even after calibrating and setting the resolution through system preferences, the resolution is horrible. It appears that the same picture on my 14-inch screen has just been stretched to 19 inches. Samsung does not, apparently, offer a driver for Mac, and there seems to be no recourse.

In addition to this problem, I recently discovered, after a year of frustration, that the screen seems to put out a signal that interferes with my wireless signal. Months of desperate frustration finally came to an end when I realized that upon pressing the off button on my monitor, my internet suddenly and permanently worked. Makes the monitor rather worthless.

That said, when I hook this up to a PC (even Windows on Boot Camp, through my same machine), the resolution looks fine. I think the wireless works too, though I don't run it enough to know for sure about that.

If you are an apple / mac user, stay away from this product. If you are a PC user, pay attention to the effects on your wireless after purchase.

I would not buy a refurbished monitor again as you do not get the software that is with a new one. They are not all on the web.

[+] 2.0 Bad Back Lights
I purchased 2 of these monitors to run as dual monitors off of my primary computer. Within one year, the back-light on one of them went out and had to be shipped back to the manufacturer for warranty repair and was gone for a few weeks. Soon after the warrant expired, the 2nd monitor went out and is now nothing more than a paper weight because the repairs are about 75% of a brand new one. I usually am a fan of Samsung, not in this case.

[+] 10.0 Great monitor, clear picture, no glare
I've had this monitor for almost a year now, and the only complaint I have is that the stand is rather short. It works for me as I'm only 5'4, but if my boyfriend uses it, at 6'1, he has to look down. Otherwise, it's a great monitor and has served me very well. :)

[+] 8.0 A reasonably good monitor
I bought this monitor three weeks back and it adds beauty to my desk. Some pros and cons,
+ Wide screen
+ Sharp and clear display
+ Easy setup
+ Worth the money

- Fixed stand

Caution: Make sure your PC (motherboard) supports wide screen resolution.

[+] 8.0 Great LCD Monitor for the price
This thing is awesome.

Only negative thing about it is the blue LED light bleeds out the bottom right hand corner of the monitor.

The color is awesome, and playing games on it is great no ghosting. I would recommend this to any gamer.

[+] 4.0 Squat screen -- better for DVDs than work
This is a squat monitor -- more appropriate as a dorm room TV/DVD player than a work station. The resolution is good and the colors crisp as could be -- but know what you're buying. It's no taller than a typical 17" and everything looks stretched, even after adjustments.

[+] 6.0 Dead pixels?
First got this monitor and it had a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen.
So right away something is wrong with it.
Sure they give you a warranty but YOU pay the shipping, which today is around $40.
Just not worth it for 1 dead pixel. But hey SAMSUNG HAS LOST MY BUSINESS.
It does work fast and other than it hurts my eyes I have had no real complaints.
It gets 3 stars. I would personally buy this in a store and have it checked for dead pixels before i purchased or get a different brand monitor.

[+] 10.0 Nice screen, Great upgrade
I bought this monitor as an upgrade to a 15" Gateway LCD. I don't even think i can say "apples and oranges". The new samsung has beautiful brightness and is a good size widescreen for everyday use.

At work i use a 21" Dell Trinitron and thought I'd never want to get rid of it. If they got me a samsung, I'd hand them over the "boat anchor" pretty fast. Not necessary for space, like at home.

Back to the Samsung. It's beautiful. It's bright. It worked fine without the software for me. Once i got my DVI cable in the mail, i hooked up to my 5 year old Radeon and **boom** full resolution. I was amazed!! I had convinced myself that my video would have to be upgraded as well to push the higher resolutions allowed for this but it was not an issue.

The first issue I have is 1 single stuck pixel. it's off to the top-right. It's stuck blue, so it's not a huge deal. Hopefully it stays the way it is and doesn't kill off anyjmore pixels.

The other issue is i get a flicker on the bottom of the screen, from time-to-time. I don't know whether this is due to my monitor, cable, video card or what. There's so many factors and i don't have a second machine to prove it's not the monitor or cable. At this point I have to assume it's more due to the ancient machine.

No regrets, i love this monitor. It was recommended to me (actually, the 22 inch version was but i dont' have $$$ or space in my cabinet) and i'll carry down the recommendation.

Edit: Still working great, weeks later. Periodically there's some screen jump at the bottom of the screen. I honestly have no way to pinpoint whether it's the video card, monitor or cable-my PC and video card are 5 years old, so there is definite posibility that the video card would be the issue.
As for the dead pixel, well, I forgot about it until i was reading over my review a second time. It's not an issue.

[+] 8.0 Good Monitor - A tad bright
Purchased yesterday. Setting up from the CD was confusing as it didn't run automatically so I installed the driver from an exe file. I have a 2003 Dell with a GeForce MX 420 it was just able to handle the 1440x900 resolution (anything lower didn't look right, especially with the fonts). Setting up took 8 minutes total.

I'm using an analog connection and don't have the latest graphics card so I'm not sure if it is getting the best possible picture. Once the correct resolution was used and clear type fonts selected the image was quite good although very bright. Reducing brightness to 20% helped but pastels are still slightly washed out, deeper colors look great. I tried changing the other settings to see if that would help, it didn't.

The menu system is a little cumbersome, it takes some time to get used to pushing the little buttons. I thought this could also be controlled by the mouse but could not find that anywhere in the documentation. Have not tested the DVI and wonder if I can watch high definition on here from my Panasonic SD1 camcorder, which is very close to the same pixel resolution.

Color on the Samsung 906BW is absolutely amazing. Only complaint so far is that it doesn't always adjust the screen size correctly on XP SP2 boot-up (requiring a press of the "Auto" adjust button).

[+] 10.0 Beautiful Bright and Clear
This LCD monitor has made using the computer for my wife a better experience. She used to run at 800X600 so that she might read the web pages with more ease. With the Samsung 906BW the presentation is wide and clear. She now runs the resolution at 1024X768. She has no problems with brightness or clarity. Another great thing is that it does Analog/Digital which will be used on the next PC upgrade.

[+] 10.0 Good value!
This monitor seems to be the worth money. I haven't bought a DVI cable yet, but so far even the analog connection has a really good picture. I had a CRT before and I'm happy just not having all the radiation cooking my eyes and brain! The auto adjust button makes it very easy to adjust the picture for what you are viewing, whether it be text, Internet, games, etc. The only minus is not being able to adjust the height and tilt, but that hasn't been a big problem for me.

[+] 10.0 Samsung 906CW is an awesome monitor for the money
I am reviewing the Samsung 906CW 19" monitor I purchased from Best Buy last month. Do your homework at the CW is the better version of this monitor.

It was easy to set-up, no problems at all with the install CD, or with glare. I adjusted the text size through the Control Panel Display Settings (advanced). The software program that came with the monitor, Magic Tune Premium, controlled the brightness, etc. that others have complained about in these reviews. The stand is sturdy enough for my needs. Colors are brilliant and true. The power button is not bright and for those that are bothered by it, put a sticky note or a Bandaid over the button. This monitor is well worth the money.

This monitor is excelent, I'm very happy with it. I set up this baby at the native resolution (1440x900) and things look beatiful, great for playing. One of the things I like the most is the quick set up buttom for diferent modes, like gaming, internet, movies, etc. In conclusion get it now

[+] 6.0 Nice for movies & games, not so great for text
I received my monitor with two long scratches on the screen. This was disappointing.

The monitor itself is beautiful and setup was easy as pie. It's been about a month now, no problems with the stand or performance.

I like MagicBright, it makes everything look great when I play MMORPGs or watch movies on my pc. Nice of them to have pre-set monitor settings for Internet, Text, Game, Sports, Movie, etc.

I really liked the Auto-Adjust button because it meant less trouble on my part, but soon came to realize it didn't actually adjust itself that well. Small text was difficult to read even after numerous re-adjustments. When I gave up on the Auto-Adjust button and tried to do custom adjustments, it got confusing with all the extra options.

My room isn't a dungeon, but it's not extremely well-lit. This may be part of why the monitor seems a little TOO bright, especially on a white background. It hurts my eyes sometimes, even after I lower brightness & contrast. The glare feels almost as bad as my old CRT. I use an LCD monitor at work too, and that screen never hurts my eyes at all, as well as being much easier to read tiny text on.

I'm happy enough with this screen when I play games or watch movies, but otherwise I wish I'd gone for one that was less bright and easier to adjust. The reason I switched to an LCD was so that I wouldn't feel that I'm staring into a glaring light, but I still do with this monitor.

[+] 8.0 Great General use Monitor - Hard to Beat for the Money
Unless you're doing serious graphics work where color accuracy is essential, this is a truly great monitor. For less than $200 you simply cannot go wrong.

I added this to an older system I rebuilt for the wife and kids. Running XP, setup was an easy, straightforward process - I had no problems at all. I did have to upgrade the video card to get the native resolution, but this is a reflection on the age of my system, not the monitor. I simply stuck in a new video card, connected the monitor using the included VGA connection (since Samsung sees fit not to include a DVI cable) and the clarity and resolution was (and is) spectacular. I did need to adjust the brightness a bit, but the color representation has been fine. Text is crisp, images are bright.

The monitor is not used for a lot of games, so I can't speak to its performance in that regard. But for a general use monitor, I'd definitely buy this one again.

Pros:
Excellent monitor for the money
No dead pixels
Attractive design

Cons:
-Lack of an included DVI cable
-The stand is not as sturdy or as adjustable as I'd like
-It would be nice to be able to turn down the brightness on the power button - this would drive me nuts in a bedroom.

Summary: I love this monitor and would absolutely buy it again. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for the cons listed above. These shortcomings don't bother me, but could be an issue for others.

[+] 8.0 Great deal
I've had this for about 2 months, and despite a problem am happy with this purchase. A week after I first received, the monitor failed - first, display waivered occassionally and then went black; finally it stayed black: no diagnostics, nothing. I returned and got a second and this has been trouble free. Return was a simple process (I've done before with Amazon and it's always gone well). I've worked with pc's for 25 years, and a first week failure isn't a surprise.

I use the samsung with a standard 19" lcd - decided I didn't want a large widescreen so I could use two displays without overwhelming my eyes. You can see the difference in performance, with good colors and response time of the samsung compared to my older lcd. The screen is large enough to show alot of information, but works well with a second monitor - and the price for its performance was great.

We've had multiple samsung products, and except for the failure above have been satisfied with them all.

[+] 10.0 Samsung 906BW 19-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black)
The product has been great. Very pleased with a wide screen. Was sorry that I had no idea that its super clarity wouldn't be supported on my computer, which is only 4 years old - its internal workings cannot be changed. I specifically got one with better resolution, etc., wanting a crisp image and wishing to avoid eye strain, but its potential is wasted on the current equipment.

I have been very pleased with the product, tho its arrival was uncertain. I had looked for a way to make it a 2-day delivery, but cdn't find a way before I clicked order. I was to leave the country with it, and it BARELY made it in time. I was not happy with the inability to contact someone immediately before it was processed. I tried everything that first half hour, but to no avail.

[+] 2.0 Not user friendly
I had a lot of trouble switching from my old CRT (which had better color and clarity) to this new sleek model. Even after downloading new drivers and several phone calls to the Samsung Help Line I am not completely satisfied.

The monitor angle cannot be adjusted so I had to buy a little platform to get the monitor up to eye level.

The monitor is lightweight and beautiful to look at when it is turned off and I don't have to use it.
