Samsung cust. service is horrible!
I bought this little camera approx. a year ago. Takes great pictures and is really easy to use. The Shutter started not closing approx. 8 months ago, so I assumed it was a battery problem. Over time, it started not closing and now it won't open, nor will it close. I emailed Tech support at Samsung, and they basically gave me the run around. I love this little camera and I do recommend purchasing it at such a low price, but I just hope it holds up better for someone else. I have since bought a new Canon camera. It is great, but I miss some of the features that this little jewel has.

A good little camera
First I will say that mine lasted for one and a half years before it broke (there is now something wrong with the lens and any picture I take is extremely blurry).
It was good for the price when I bought it, and I didn't need professional-quality images -- I mainly wanted to take pictures of my craft projects, and I also ended up taking many portraits and vacation photos. For these purposes it worked pretty well.
The battery life was pretty impressive -- recently it lasted for two demanding days touring Washington and a Smithsonian museum.
It's very easy to get used to using this camera, and the video quality is certainly not bad.
The zoom is pretty good, but its farthest zoom setting is hardly worth using as the pictures turn out very grainy.
Mine was the green one -- such a great color and I can't say it's not something I care about :).
If you're looking for a nice, cheap, reliable point-and-shoot camera, this is a good way to go. I'll miss mine a lot!

Great, but don't use Alkaline Batteries!!!
I have to give this product a fair review even though I lost some money on it.
I got this camera about two years ago and used it for a year, it worked great. Picture quality was excellent for the price and video was good too. But about a year ago the camera just flat out stopped working. It pretty much wouldn't turn on. The warranty happened to be expired as of that week too(of course). So the manufacturer says the reason is because I used Alkaline when it only takes NiMH, or rechargeable.
So deep within the instruction manual there is a little note about this fact. It was really my fault but I am sure plenty of others have made this mistake.
Great product, just use the batteries included even if it is a pain.
poor quality I cannot encourage anyone to buy this product from a shutter that fell off to a non working flash and poor customer service, this is not a reliable camera

Ok Camera~But wish I never bought it
This camera eats through regular batteries. I go through two in about a day of average picture taking. It also has this strange thing when you are finished taking a picture. Most cameras take about a second to process the picture. For some reason, this camera takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds per picture. So, if you are into fast picture taking, this is not the camera for you.
About the only good thing it does, is it takes really nice pictures. But, you have to have the flash on, have a steady hand, and be willing to wait for it to process. The steady hand thing on the camera doesn't actually let you take a picture with a shaky hand and have the picture come out clear. It just tells you that it is trying to take a clear picture. The picture will still come out blurry, just not as blurry as it would if you were using a film camera. The macro feature isn't the best. You are better off not even trying with it.
Now let's talk about getting the pictures off of your camera. If you have an SD card reader, that is great, use it. Otherwise, don't lose the cable that comes with it. If you do, good luck trying to find a replacement. It isn't your standard camera cord. The connection is much smaller than normal and must have its own cord.
The video feature is ok, it just doesn't work with VLC or Windows Media. The sound only works on the camera and be prepared to talk really loud to have the camera even record it. And no special features like high speed. It is just a regular video camera.
If this is your first camera, it is a good one to get started on. It will teach you to be patient and will help you get to know the standard camera features. But, if you are into taking pictures of anything, go with a different camera. This one will just drive you up a wall.
This camera stopped taking clear pictures for us in 8 months. Since it was a very inexpensive camera it wasn't a total shock and the good news was that it was covered under warranty. HOWEVER, dealing with Samsung trying to get it fixed, was nightmarish. They sent the fixed camera to the wrong person's home and I received someone else's camera. This is the truly amazing part: It took over 6 weeks to get the problem rectified. And during those weeks, I spoke with numerous customer service people who never knew what was happening in other Samsung departments. The reps couldn't just call them either. It always required emails and time for the depts to respond. No one was ever held responsible for fixing the problem. Sometimes my calls to Samsung trying to follow up on this were dropped. Anyway, this is the short version and as you can see, if you buy this low end camera, you risk dealing with Samsung and THAT is just too risky if you value your time. Buy a camera from a camera company like Canon. Our higher quality Canon was repaired once in 7 years and without issue.

I LOVE my camera!
I bought this camera last summer (08). This was my first digital camera and I didn't do much research so I really lucked out! I picked it up on impulse when it was on sale. The color I purchased is different than the current offerings; mine is bright blue. After owning this camera for over a year and using it several times a week I still have nothing but positive things to say about it. The LCD display is sharp and crisp both for image capturing and reviewing. I love being able to zoom in and out on my pictures in the camera. I also love being able to zoom out to 9 pictures at a time to be able to scroll through my many pictures more quickly. Even when we have had a few drinks, we still manage to take great pictures. It is so easy to use! It seems to not have a huge appetite for batteries even though I use it so much. I don't use it for anything too fancy just lots of fun snapshots so if that is what you are looking for I think it is a wonderful camera at a very affordable price.

BEST DIGITAL CAMERA I HAVE EVER HAD!!
I have never had such a fantastic camera!!
The zoom on this is AMAZING. I took a picture of a flower at least 20 feet away, when I zoomed in on the flower itself, it came out crystal clear! Every picture I take comes out clear and perfect as though it is 10mp instead of 8!
I took a picture while driving on the highway of a sign and it came out so clear you would think I'd taken it while standing in front of it!
Perfect for up-close pictures of things too!
You can take video with it and hear the sound because it has speakers unlike many other camera!
My Moms $300 camera with 9mp is as good as this! (Except the zoom on this cameras is 100x better!)
Best digital camera for the price you will EVER buy.
It didnt take pic so I sent it back and they will credit my account
This camera works very fine and it's pretty comfortable, small, you can carry it easily. All the features of the camera are in perfect condition, the only problem is that the pictures are hideously dark! This bothers me so much that I had to sell it and bought a new one. If you like bright, high quality pictures (who doesn't?) like me, don't buy this...

Peak and Drop-off
I received this camera two Christmases ago. I took really good care of it, keeping it in a case, and it worked beautifully. That is, until the first day of camp about a week ago. The screen went black, the shutter froze open, and the zoom stopped partially retracted. This is a frequent problem for this camera. This is not the most wear-friendly camera out there, but it was a good price for my first digital camera.
There are enough features to satisfy a new photographer. My complaints are concise: the batteries tended to wear out too quickly for my taste, so I always had to bring along PLENTY of spares. The "movie" feature is right above the "auto" button, which is what I kept my camera on most of the time. The dial would pivot in its case, resulting in frequent "accidental movies". Also, the flash has to reload before it will let you view your pictures. This is extremely inconvenient, because after a picture, you generally have people crowded around you, waiting to see the picture. Lastly, the flash loaded far too slowly for decent action shots, even though putting the camera on "child" mode helped a little bit. Lastly, the shutter would sometimes catch, resulting in a black shadow on the screen. Touching the shutter doors lightly with a finger amended the situation, but it was confusing until I figured out what had happened.
Ultimately, this is a good starter camera. It takes good pictures and is an unobtrusive device to carry with you. I always copied my photos over manually from folder to folder on my computer because it's simply faster that way. But I'm sure the included software works fine, too. Take good care of this camera and beware of its quirks, and it will take good care of you.
Samsung S860 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver)When i bought this camera it was my first experience with digital camera since than on my visit to Las vegas I took about 300 photos they came fantastic just remember you need 2g memory card which is must because without memory card it holds very few photos also you must use lithium batteries aa because if you use regular duracell it runs out within just couple pictures I was able to take 300 picture with just 2 lithium energizer batteries.

Well, it worked for half a year
This was my first digital camera and I had medium expectations for it. It is a very inexpensive camera and is suitable for taking quick snapshots of people about three meters or further. On the other hand, it is horrendous at taking pictures of things VERY closeup. About 1-2 feet away, pictures will look blurry when even using the correct camera options. Pictures at extreme closeups of less than a foot away will turn out completely blurry.
The flash is actually very good - I have taken pictures of quite small rooms in near complete darkness and you would think it was daytime if it weren't for the shadows. The flash also drains the batteries so be careful. I remember playing with it the first day and the batteries were done after only 25-40 photos. Though, batteries are cheap so no worries... And carry extras with you!!
It is very easy to copy pictures off the camera. All you need to do is plug it in to a computer using the included USB cable, and your computer should recognize it as an external drive. There may be additional software, but it is definitely optional.
I am giving this camera a rating of two stars. I first experienced problems on a long vacation where I took over 300 photos. About every 10 to 20 of them were corrupt jpeg images, but that may have been a problem with the SD card. One night I used it to take a couple more pictures, but the next day it wouldn't even cut on and the shutter does not come out, but a green light turns on if I hold the power button down (the batteries are new). So, the camera worked for about half a year and was good for roughly 1000 photos.
In conclusion, I would recommend spending a bit more money and getting a better digital camera. The parts must be very cheap considering it broke even when I was taking such good care of it.
I received when promised, loved the value that I paid for but would not buy this camera at full retail value, feels cheap but takes pictures well. Good enough for a teenager.

Very POOR Camera and Customer Service
My camera was a Christmas present from 2008. Had to pay an extra $59.95 to pay for having it fixed or replaced as it broke on the last day of the 90 day warranty in March 2009. They returned without following their own packing guidelines. Flash broke 2 weeks after returned on June 14th. Had to send in to replace. Two weeks later camera went back out of focus and would not retract lens on June 24th, 2009. Samsung tells me "The camera was fixed before it left the shop." Ok, if I have a broken chair leg, I can prop it up until someone sits upon it.
*I* would not purchase another camera with a Samsung label or any other product based upon how they have handled this. My $75 camera (on sale) has now cost me (not counting photos of Grand Canyon, San Diego, and Las Vegas that I cannot get back with my small kids), but also $139.95 and I still have a broken camera. *I* would spend my money elsewhere.

A very nice Pocket camera
Too bad they discontinued this camera... it is a really nice camera for a pocket point and shoot... very decent pics, it fits in a shirt pocket, uses only 2 batteries (get rechargable) - a 2GB mem card will yield 453 full rez images... if you can't find one new... find one slightly used and you will not be disappointed (unless you expect it to work like a DSLR, in which case, you shouldn't even bother buying a camera, you got the wrong priorities) Photography is MORE than the equipment.

Just what I need.......no problems here
I had absolutely no problem with this camera. I started to shake in my boots a bit when I saw the bad reviews AFTER i had ordered the product and what concerned me the most was the fact that the bad reviews of the product were all made in the recent months while the best comments were made last year all around the same time. It made me wonder if the camera was on sale only to get rid of the set of cameras that were known to be botched products. My worst fear was the problems that were reported in regards to the lens not shutting. I can say happily that I have had no problems with that at all.
The camera is the perfect weight and size and I was impressed with the images that were taken. I have issues with my images coming out blurry a lot of the times but i think I just need to practice some more. Overall I feel it is a great product
I bought this camera for my granddaughters 13th birthday gift. These are her words grandpa it works just great and takes great pictures I love my Samsung camera. What more could you ask for!

You get what you pay for.
My 2 cents:
For me this was like an expensive disposable camera - I bought it for a situation which I knew could get me in trouble to save the camera, and sure enough it was gone after 2 weeks, but that's another story.
Shutter speed is not particularly fast (long response time from pressing the shutter button to "actual picture taking."), and flash and image quality not very good either.
It can take videos though, so that could be an appeal for you YouTube junkies.
Ultimately, if you can save another hundred or so, there are some VERY good cameras in the $200-250 range, like a Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization (Silver).
Not really recommended.
perfect product for girlfriend, mom, aunt, any female or male

Nice Basic Camera
I bought this camera for my 8 year old son as a Christmas present. The display and the price were the two reasons I chose it. Overall I am satisfied with the camera since it is serving my son well but I have noticed that it has a distinct lag between pressing the shutter release and the actual picture snapping. I know it is a common occurrence with digital cameras, but it seems a bit more pronounced with this one. I would recommend this to someone looking for a beginner or first camera, but expect to out grow it in a year
If your looking for a simple point and shoot with stabilization, then this is it. Samsung has facial recognition which is a nifty little feature. Good battery life and compact! Hope this helps!

Poor customer service from Samsung! - Don't Duy!
This camera took OK pictures until it broke after only 3 months. Samsung customer service conveniently claimed "physical damage" so that they did not have to cover the repair. I appealed to their Case Management since I knew there was no physical damage that caused the camera to stop working. They had no interest in hearing anything I had to say and only rudely repeated "Samsung will not be covering any repairs". This process took 3 weeks and was a complete waste of my time. Samsung does not stand behind their products. Do not buy Samsung products.

You get what you pay for, if you can wait to take your next picture buy this camera.
Simply too slow at taking pictures for me to deal with. Between the time you push the shutter button down and when the actual shot is taken who knows what your picture will look like. Bottom line is the "processor" inside this camera is way too slow. Even if you manage to take your first picture its going to take you another 5-8 seconds to take another one because of the time it takes to save each image onto the SD drive.
On a side note this camera only lasted about 1 month because of my punishing nights out in boston. The first night out i dropped it. The second time i took it out it was freezing up, likely due to the first time i dropped it. It did not make it past the 2nd night and was found crushed the next morning. The SD card was recoverable though. Next camera is going to be the olyumpus 1030sw......

Pleasently surprised
I purchased the Samsung S860(silver) over a month ago. I've been pleasently surprised how well this little camera has performed for me. The value is well worth the price tag.
The little thing did have a few more functions then I thought I would ever need or use...but I've used a number of them including the video function(having bought a 2GB memory card first however.
After almost 2 months now of a lot of use and I'm still learning about this little giant...working out well!
I recomend this camera for beginners and for those that need a second or third camera to carry(even tho it's a shade larger then most in its class)You'll also want extra set batteries to carry with you...but having a good supply of rechargable batts works just fine!

Wow Have Electronic Camera's Gotten Better
The last cameria I got was in 2002, so figured it was time. After looking over the avaiolable ones, I picked the one with the features I wanted at a really terrific price (was looking for control and zoom in and out, got it, but got a lot more).
All the controls are great and I can even do a time exposure on it (took great pictures for Halloween of glow in the dark ghosts).
It is easy to use, small, stores lots of photos and has features that help you take better photos.
If there is any shortcoming it is the manual, I had to figure out how to take time exposures by myself (set on scene, be in dark, have a tripod and you got it) and a lot of the other features are not detailed for all the special things that they do, I suppose it's like a marriage, no manual, but every day you learn something that makes it special.

A very good point and shoot for a great price
I bought this camera as an addition to our Minolta digital SLR, just to have a small and convenient point and shoot for times that I don't want to drag the SLR around.
Samsung has put together a very good camera for this price, and it has a couple of nice things beyond the basics. I especially like the facial recognition feature, which makes sure that you actually get a focus on a person instead of sharp surroundings and a blurred human subject. The menus are very easy to use, and the camera itself takes very good action shots. There are eleven different photo settings from which to choose. It also takes small video clips. The photo quality is excellent and you can print up to poster size and maintain that quality. It is an 8.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 3x digital zoom.
The body of the camera itself is small and compact, and it easily fits into standard blue jean pockets. It has a nice, solid feel to it and since I have small hands, it's very comfortable for me to use. A person with very large hands may want something bigger for ergonomic reasons.
The only down side to this camera is that you have to use the LCD screen to take your shot. There is no standard view finder. The LCD screen itself, however, is very large and extremely crisp.
This is an excellent camera if you are looking for a basic point and shoot with a few added perks beyond the most basic category. If you are looking for a camera with tons of settings, features and major zoom ability, you need to look elsewhere. However, for basic everyday use, Samsung has really put out a great product in the S860.
