[+] 10.0 Best Picture Quality
I had bought this DVD player for my daughter for our long road trips. The higher definition picture quality is the best compared to the many portable DVD players out there. The sound quality is average not having much bass at all. The online menu is intuitive and easy to use. The 6 hour battery life is a plus for the long road trips plus it comes with a charger for use in the car. Overall you get alot of value for the price.

[+] 10.0 Good Portable DVD player
Good DVD player. Long lasting battery. Excellent picture quality. Also good sound for a portable unit. Only con is that I ordered the blue player but their blue does not look like blue. It actually looks purple.

[+] 10.0 Sony Portable DVD Player
PROS: Excellent image; Battery life enough to watch 2 movies (2 hours each); Different positions for screen; remote control easy to use.

CONS: A little bit bulky; heavy; Sony does not offer an accessory to hold in the back of the car (at least I haven't found it)

OVERALL: Excellent quality an easy to use for a fair price... I recommend it!!!

[+] 10.0 Best ever
Compact design and exceptional screen quality. The clamshell design flips flat like a tablet PC and the DVD controls are conveniently located even when flat. Durability so far is good. Battery life is better than other units I have owned, but not six hours.

[+] 8.0 great dvd
This is a nice dvd for traveling. I only wish they make it so you need not use both hands to open. Other than that, i have no complaints.

[+] 10.0 Sony DVD Player
I have found NO problem with this product. It works great. The screen is just the right size, battery life is ok and the sound is ok. It works great with headphones.

[+] 10.0 Very nice portable dvd player
I think the other reviewers have done a great job reviewing the product. I just want to add the best case for this DVD player is the Case Logic PDVK-9. The 10-inch version is slightly bigger but the 9-inch fit perfectly. Probably too fit to plug in the power connector. For me, I was just looking for something as fit as possbile. With this case, you can have the player fully extended (open up 180 degrees) or folded with the LCD facing out (flip open), which are the features I looked for in a case.

[+] 6.0 First one is great, second one I bought is useless!
Well, I bought one of these for my 10 year old. She uses it when she travels, and is rough on it, drops it, etc. Still works great after one year of HARD use. So, I caved and bought one for myself...it will only work for 40 minutes at the most and then it will freeze up and I can't get it to work again until the next day! So frustrating! Can't even dream of getting through a movie. So, now, I have to ask my daughter if I can borrow hers!

[+] 8.0 Best Picture Quality
I love this Sony portable DVD player because it has awesome picture quality. If I had to find fault it would be sound quality. This seems to be a problem with all small DVD players because of the limits on speaker size. The solution is the purchase of a set of Grado open ear headphones for $60.

[+] 6.0 Vary bad sound
Good video, but sound really ugly. Speakers are useless - 1950 telephone was producing better sound. There is no way to adjust sound characteristics (bass/treble), or I was not able find the way of doing this after month of experimenting. Average $20 CD player has at least "bass boost", not sating about more sophisticated tuning (especially Sony products).

Fortunately, I have full drawer of headphones, and I was able to select one that provides good compromise between low and end.

[+] 10.0 GREAT Portable DVD
I purchased this dvd player in both red and white and am VERY impressed with it - especially for the price. The screen is great and large enough, very clear and sharp resolution. The cases are a pretty color and the battery life was also great. I watched a movie for 3 hours and only 1 of the 3 battery life bars was gone. I love the swivel feature and the ability to fold it up! Highly recommend!! Also - a LIFE SAVER for a 21 month old on a plane. Hello Little Einsteins and Backyardigans...

[+] 10.0 Perfect portable dvd player
I just received this dvd player in the mail about 2 hours ago (which consequently came very fast, and it was free shipping through amazon) and I couldn't be happier; the picture quality is great and the sound is great to. I bought this as a gift for my wife and I know she will love it. I originally wasn't planning on spending this much ($150.00) for a portable dvd player but after reading the reviews on cheaper models and comparing to the more high end I thought that might be a mistake and I didn't want to throw my money away on something that might not last long. I am very particular about what I spend my money on, especially when in comes to electronics, and I did a ton of research before I made the decision to buy this dvd player. If you are in the market for a portable dvd player I would definitely recommend this product. I just finished watching a movie on it and it was great.

[+] 6.0 A very good product, but..
The product is really good quality. Nice sound, nice image quality.. Everything is as nice as written in the specifications.

The ONLY big problem is that it doesn't play divx format, or any other encoded video format. So you can only play original DVD recorded in US(NTSC standard).

It is my fault I haven't read this in the spec file but I must say I am really disappointed with respect to this issue. Hope the future models will include such features like playing divx, mpeg and so on. Panasonic does that already, but the image quality is not so good.

[+] 8.0 it is worth buying a brand name....
This is my sons 4th portable dvd player and he is only 5 years old. In the past I would buy the cheapest one I could find but they never lasted very long or would skip in the car. I finally broke down and bought the name brand and it is worth the difference in price because it is durable.

[+] 8.0 its a good piece
Hi Every One,

Its a good piece to watch movies. Its got High resolution than any other dvd players. Its got 6 hours long lasting battery power.

Its very portable in journey. a car apdapter is given for continous power suply when you are in journey.

But One thing I hate in this is. If you want to watch video songs. You need to creat a dvd using roxio or nero. I cut a dvd with my favourite video songs and I tried to pay it in this piece. But It did not work. Because it can't read the format. In order to play your own dvd's. You need to create dvd through roxio or nero burner. Simply copy and pate of video clips and play in this piece doesn't work. But I could play the same copy and paste video clips in audiovox dvd players.

So you need to put extra effort if you want to run your own dvds. Make sure you create your own dvd using roxio or nero if you want to have your personalized DVD.

bye

[+] 10.0 Great Player for the Price
Used this on a recent flight - worked very well.
Prior to the trip - I charged up the battery but it only showed 2/3 full. None the less, I used it during the trip, then recharged and now it is showing Full.

[+] 8.0 Great Player - slow on loading
Great player - plays all DVD's that I have put in it. Has option for full screen and widescreen. Great display - clear! Sound is fine using headphones and low volumes from speakers. Love the swivel action on the display - can even turn it around and close it on itself and have the screen show up on the top side like a tablet PC. Battery lasted fine on two leg plane trip form East Coast to Texas.

Only downside that I have found so far is that it takes an unusual amount of time to load a DVD+R disk. But again - it plays great, great video quality. I would give it a 4.5 but could only give it a 4 or a 5.

[+] 10.0 Simple review. Simply great.
I originally bought the Toshiba SD-P91S 9-Inch Portable DVD Player thinking I would need the bigger screen. Got home, started it up and...
1 - Found that you don't need a bigger screen, especially if you just plan on using it on a plane, on your desk, etc.
2 - The resolution on the Toshiba unit was very poor, with the pixel lines clearly visible even to the point of annoying.

So, I returned it and bought this Sony unit. - Whoa, what a difference.
1 - The size is perfect and easily fits where you want it.
2 - The picture is crystal clear.

That's what I was looking for and I got it. Go get yourself one and see if I'm wrong. - Simple review, simply great.

[+] 8.0 Good product with few flaws...
Overall, a very nice product. The swivel feature is nice. As those with youngsters know, the ability to lock the buttons is key.

Negatives:
1. The button to open the disc compartment...it's too big, poorly placed (right where your thumb would be when carrying it) and not protected by the key lock feature mentioned above.

2. A slight squeeze on the case easily affects the playing disc and makes a nice noise. Seems like it would have been easier to fix with a couple of well placed little rubber stoppers.

[+] 4.0 No close captions?
This product is everything they say it is but it doesn't let you view the close captions. A big minus in my book.

[+] 8.0 Enjoying It And Great For Travel
I'm very happy I bought this portable DVD. I've never owned one before and wasn't sure what to expect. This has worked out well for me and my family. On a trip with the kids in the backseat, they were totally entertained for several hours! We bought a plug in to run from the car battery and it was nice. The battery though will last for up to 6 hours. It has a nice picture and sound quality. The remote is a nice feature and it is much easier to operate the unit using the remote rather than the buttons on the DVD. Not a bad price either.

[+] 10.0 Good player, solid sound and picture
Have had for about 1 month, used for several long car trips. Great picture, very good sound. Plays very smoothly. Nice rotating screen, although still only 8". Well built. Charges quickly. Overall, very nice player. I had reviewed many evaluations and reviews prior to buying this unit, and it seems as though most thought that this was one of the best players in it's class. You do pay a little more for the Sony name, but I have always thought that was well payed money, as Sony usually makes very nice stuff.

[+] 8.0 Disappointed, expected better from Sony
First the good news. The sound , the picture , the performance is great.
Bad news: Doesn't play home made DVD-R discs. That was a surprise to me. Olso it only plays Region #2 discs. I would have expected a portable DVD player to be global specially from Sony! (I was aware of this fact before I bought the unit)

[+] 10.0 The Sony DVP-Fx820
I have had this product for about a month or so. Because my eyes aren't so good, I had to get something that I could watch and enjoy and see. the picture on it is very clear, the sound is very good and so far i am enjoying this product. The size of the screen is perfect and the really great part of this is that I can carry it in my backpack. I would recommend this product. And also, the price was good.
Thank you

[+] 8.0 If you are buying this for airplane trips ...
Hi,

We just bought and used this for a cross country trip via plane. Here's the challenge.
If you are sitting near the engines, then no headphone will be able to overcome the noise of the jet engine. We brought two different Sony headphones, the Sony MDR-CD60, and the Sony MDR-V150. The CD-60 was unusable anywhere on the plane because it simply didn't have enough volume. The CD-60 had the volume but we really had to crank it up. Enough so that we worried about hurting our daughter's ears. This problem might be solved with some Sennheiser or Bose or some other $500 noise-canceling ear-enveloping headphone. But hey, most people are buying this for their kids right? None of those headphones will fit a small kid. Particularly those who cannot be entertained by reading they cannot yet do.
My recommendation is this:
Get seats far in front of the jet engines.
Get the best headphones you can afford.
Turn down the resolution as far as you can to save battery life for getting stuck somewhere because of weather problems.

[+] 10.0 GREAT DVD PLAYER
I love this dvd player. The clarity of the picture is wonderful, the swivel feature is terrific. I can find no fault with this player. The only feature I wish it had was a zoom -which my old Sanyo had. Other than that (and its no biggie) this is a super player and well worth the money. I've had it almost 6 months and its still doing a great job! You can't beat a Sony!

[+] 10.0 Pink Color has metallic sheen
I think everyone knows this is a great product. All I have to add is that this pink color is really cool. It is not a super bright cheesy pink. It is a nice color. Kind of the simulate silver color but in pink. It is better looking than the standard black.

[+] 10.0 Sharp Screen
I've owned 2 other portable DVD players. The only problem was the screen resolution was a quarter of what a DVD actually shows so subtitles and details are fairly poor. Sony has stepped up on this with a fairly priced true SD resolution portable player. One oddity is the sparse audio options but has an optical connection. The speakers are good, but the best sound would come from headphones. This is perfect for travel.

[+] 10.0 Great Item
Just got the player for my 2 year old daughter's birthday. We take it in the car for long rides and plan to use it on the airplane too. Fits great in the CaseLogic Case we bought seperately. I also got her kid sized headphones that make the whole thing perfect. The picture and sound are fantastic.

[+] 10.0 Great Portable DVD Player!
This is my first portable DVD player and I chose it based on the reviews. I bought it to take on long airplane trips and I think the size is perfect - not too big with a clear, sharp picture. Swivel screen is a real plus. I took the advice of another reviewer and turned the LCD brightness to 10 and as they said, it wasn't too dark and got me the full 6 hours of playing time! Another reviewer said that you could not turn unit on/off without using the remote and that is NOT true - there is an on/off button on the side of the unit (maybe that reviewer's button was in "lock" position so that's why it didn't work) and the other controls (volume, menu, back, forward, etc.) are located below the screen. I am so pleased with this unit and it will fit perfectly in my carry-on bag. Price was great and free shipping too! Can't go wrong with this one.

[+] 8.0 Sony DVP-FX820
Works great right out of the box. Plays DVD-/+R disks without a problem. Large beautiful display although fits very tight in the recommended travel case, not allowing the screen panel to open completely. Battery life and remote are very good. Great quality as expected from a Sony product. You defiantly get what you pay for in this product.

[+] 10.0 Sony DVP-FX820 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black
The unit arrived well packed in an attractive box. All of the bits inside were very easy to get at when I unpacked them. I took the DVD player out of the box, plugged it in using the connection provided, inserted a DVD, did what seemed obvious with hardly any need to study the instructions, (like pusing the "play" button) and it worked fine straight away. Total elapsed time from opening box to playing was less than three or four minutes. I have no complaints except that it would be nice to include a headset, even if it was only a cheap one, since operating the unit in public using only the internal speakers could be annoying to others. For the rest, I recommend this player highly based on quality, funtionality and comparable price.

i bought this unit as a replacement to our previous one that met it's untimely demise on the deck of a pontoon boat last year. we weren't looking for anything especially fancy, but we were very pleased with the picture quality and ease of use. i'm no techie, but compared to the unit it replaced, i'd say this stands head and shoulders above the other unit that originally cost me twice as much...

[+] 10.0 Sony Portable DVD Player review
This product works great and has the best picture that I've seen on various portable DVD players at this type of price level. The picture is vibrant, sharp, and clear. The sound works nicely as well.
We purchased it mainly for using in the car but I did try hooking it up to our TV and it did display and play fine on the screen and we also have plugged it into the wall outlet and played it and it works great that way as well.

[+] 8.0 Great DVD, but a little heavy
Great picture quality and I really like the fact that the battery is flat and fits on the bottom of the unit. The only drawback is that it is a little heavy. If you go to cnet.com, you'll find a review of this DVD player, and they mention the weight as a drawback as well.

[+] 6.0 6-Hour Battery Life is a deceiving feature
I read other reviews that the battery life is based on screen image - adjusting brightness and contrast but there should be some feature on this product to let you know at what levels you can set for 3 hour, 4 hour and up to 6 hour battery life. I took this on a 4-hour plane ride and it only lasted 2 1/2 hours. Quite a disappointment. Pivoting screen delights my daughter and the image is fine Overall, I'm good with this purchase.

[+] 6.0 Things you should know...
I purchased this player based on the good reviews on Amazon.com. Very first impressions were good. The red is a cool color. As I played with it and discovered what it does not do, I became more and more disappointed.
I have a lot of British comedy DVDs that I was looking forward to watching on Atlantic flights. I can confirm that this player is absolutely region one only. However, it gets worse. I have some region free British DVDs that also will not play on the Sony. It is NTSC only. No PAL.
There is some discussion about how long the battery lasts. I haven't tested this, but suppose you want a second battery. How much do you suppose a second battery for a $165 device would cost? $30.00? $50.00? $70.00? Nope, try $100.00! Check it out the part number is NP-FX110.
Suppose you want to connect this player to a TV. Your only option is composite video. The lowest video quality connection method. No S-VHS, No Component video.
Several other players in this price range have SD card slots. Some even have USB connectivity and can play still images/video from external sources. The Sony doesn't.
In all fairness, if all you are interested in is playing Region 1 DVDs on the built in screen and don't care about additional features this is not a bad choice. The picture quality isn't bad and it has a 800*480 resolution screen. But I'm sending mine back. The lack of PAL support was a deal breaker. I'm getting a Philips PET1030.

I've only had the DVD payer a short time, but to date it's great. Bought it for my bathroom so I could enjoy movies as I take a long bath. No problems. And I like that I could take it in the road it I wanted to... haven't yet but I can see doing it. I look forward to using it for the long term.
