[+] 10.0 Very cool remote
Just thought I would post a quick review for this remote. Although I knew that this remote was blue-ray technology I didn't think about it due to years of normal remotes, but this remote is cool because you don't have to point it at your system. Yes I know that is a DUH comment for plenty of people, but I think for the person who doesn't know much about how technology works that it is a pretty cool thing to know. It is bigger than the old ps2 remote, I wish it was a lot smaller. However I imagine this does a lot more. I don't use this remote for anything other than watching movies on my system but it's great for that. Responds well, looks nice, had no problems setting it up with my system. A good buy, I will however mention look for it online because I found mine much cheaper than in stores.

[+] 8.0 Only real choice
Since the PS3 doesn't have an IR port, a Bluetooth remote is the only option. Now I think that using Bluetooth for a remote is a great idea, but that means I can't use my great universal remote until Logitech develops a remote with Bluetooth. The remote itself works great and has all the functions you would need. It's true there is no one button for power off, so that is kind of a pain. However any button you press will turn your PS3 on. This can be annoying sometimes since it's Bluetooth and so doesn't need to be pointed at the PS3 or even have line-of-sight. It can be under a cushion when you sit down and all of a sudden you PS3 is whirring up. I guess in this sense it's good there is no one touch power off. Turning the PS3 off is a 3 button affair. Press and hold the PS button for about two seconds. Now press the OK button twice about a second apart from each other. You will see the hard drive light start to blink for a few seconds and your PS3 will turn off.

As it stands this is your only real choice for full functionality and thankfully it is not a bad one. It feels sturdy and does what needs to be done. If like me, you use your PS3 primarily for watching Blu-Ray movies then this is a must have.

[+] 10.0 Great
Comes in handy when needed, doesn't waste controls battery life when watching movies or just browsing the menus or the playstation store. The remote is very light and user friendly with a nice battery life.

[+] 2.0 Over-priced Under-featured Badly Designed Rip-off
Sony hs been making remotes for some time, so you think they'd come up with something servicable. But this is just a bad joke:

1 - the STOP BUTTON is between the PLAY and PAUSE buttons, and all three are the same shape and texture -- meaning you often hit it by mistake. Normaly no problem since most DVD Players have a resume function default. Not the PS3 -- it STOPS. It bails out of DVD mode and drops you into the system menu. Then you have to start up the DVD again, click through the start-up commecials on the Blu-Ray, and then find where you were when you first tried to pause it.

2 - No OFF button, so you have to go through the PS3 shut-down process.

3 - No backlight -- for the price they're asking, this device should have a back light, because...

4 - Text is too small, and buttons are often unclear.

It looks and feels like a remote made by gamers, not by people who actually want to watch a movie. Too bad, because the game controller that comes with the PS3 is a more funtional remote than this -- and far more robust. This feels like cheap plastic -- if Sony made their game controller this way, we'd all have XBoxes by now.

I can only infer that Sony had their trainee designers throw this dog together. And a bunch of sycophantic executives as product testers. It should never have been released.

Considering the price tag -- and the price tag of the PS3 you're buying it for -- this is just another of the many examples of Sony gouging the consumer.

Stick with your game-controller and save youself some money.

[+] 8.0 Does the job
I'm not sure why this review form is referring to this as a "game" and asking me how much fun it is, but the remote does what it's supposed to do. It's easier than using the onscreen controls with the regular PlayStation controller, but I wouldn't recommend gaming with it (if it's possible).

[+] 8.0 Great Remote, but Pause button in Wrong Place!
This makes the PS3 feel like a high end Blue-Ray player. It is nice that you do not have to aim the remote at the PS3, like for infrared controllers. One thing that dries me crazy is that the Pause and Stop buttons should be swapped. You know how frustrating it is to accidentally hit stop, which boots you completely out of the disk where you need to wade through all the startup stuff again before you can continue watching the movie? ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

[+] 10.0 Excellent Product
This is a steal for the price. The remote has excellent looks ,build quality and fit and finish. It performs flawlessly;and since it uses bluetooth to transmit you don't need "line of sight" to aim it !Highly recommended.

[+] 6.0 No power button
After reading the instructions carefully, I figured out how to connect this remote to "see" my PS3. It really should work right out of the box but no real biggie. One big complaint, no power button! The PS3 is a heat box and it's loud, so having to walk over and turn it off whenever I'm done is a real pain.

[+] 8.0 Great product, don't let incorrect information in other reviews influence decision
I saw many reviews claiming the remote does not have a on/off button - this is incorrect. The PS3 button at the center of the remote performs this function - just press and the menu to switch off the PS3 comes up.

Also noticed some other reviews mention is that you have to navigate many menus to switch off the PS3 - well there is only 1 menu to navigate, and it is very simple to do, even in the dark. You can feel for the PS3 button on the remote to bring up the menu, without needing to look at it, the menu comes up, then just click on "Turn off system" - very easy.

Setup/sync with the PS3 is very simple - in fact, it was so simple that I cannot even remember how I did it. I think it's just going to the Settings menu and clicking on "Add Bluetooth Remote" or something of the sort. Whatever it is, the 2 or 3 steps necessary are detailed in the remote packaging, and takes less than 1 minute to do. Couldn't ask for a simpler design.

All other functions on the remote are covered - no problems with any. Remote works very well, and I personally consider it a must-have for anyone who plans to use the blu-ray player a lot on the system, as I do.

What is correct in the reviews is that the only connectivity option is bluetooth. The bluetooth is great for use with the PS3, better than any other option in my opinion (IR, radio, cord) - but no IR to facilitate connecting up to a universal remote.

Physical design is good - long and slender, easy to hold and find, buttons well sized and nice solid feel to the build.

Also saw someone mention the remote eats batteries. Well I've only had mine for about 2-1/2 months thus far, but haven't had any problems with batteries yet.

4 stars, 1 star lost mainly for lack of options to incorporate into a universal remote.

[+] 10.0 Point it anywhere.
The fact that this remote is bluetooth has be its best feature. No need to point it at the PS3. If you are going to be using your PS3 as a Blu-Ray player it is the only way to go. Using a controller or buying one of the other remotes that uses infrared is just a waste. This controller has everything you need to control your movie. My only complaint would be that it is all black. This makes it hard to find the buttons in the dark. But I have the same problem with some of my other remotes that have colored buttons.

For those complaining about not having a power button. You DO have a power button. It works the same as a controller. Its called PS Button, Enter(X), Enter(X). You should be used to it from using your controllers to turn of the PS3.

It's worth the purchase price. Using the PS3 wireless game controller can be a bit cludgy and does not have all of the features that the remote controller does. It is an extra remote control, but definitely handy to have around.

[+] 6.0 Functional, but not phenomenal
Fist of all, I'm a little annoyed that I needed to buy a new remote to have some features unavailable on the Sixaxis. I'm also annoyed that it was incompatible with my current Logitech Harmony 880. But, on the other hand, I didn't want another dongle on the front of my PS3.

I do like the fact I don't have to point it in any particular direction, but still find myself pointing it at the TV. Hard habits are hard to break, I guess. The added functionality of the buttons are handy (e.g the Stop button takes you completely out of the movie and back to the XMB without asking you if you're sure).

My biggest gripe, perhaps I'm spoiled, is that the remote doesn't light up; nor are the buttons shaped much different from the ones next to them. Navigating in the dark is a pain. I don't use the remote enough to fully memorize the precise location of the pop-up menu button, for example. I suppose, in time, this will change as I become more familiar with the device.

[+] 8.0 very useful
This remote is very useful for control of the media functions of the PlayStation 3. I use it every time I watch a DVD, BD, or downloaded movie. It has plenty of buttons, very well organized. It syncs easily to the system, and runs off two AA batteries. I give it 4 starts out of 5 because there's only two minor complaints: the buttons don't light up, and it doesn't charge via usb like the controllers do. As I said, those are minor complaints and they don't bother me too much. Overall, I highly recommend this product to anybody who is using their PS3 as a media player.

[+] 8.0 Works like it should.
This remote works very good and links up with your system as controller port 7. It's definitely not a must have but it is nice to have if you like to watch a lot of movies and videos on your PS3. It would be nice if it had an auxillary IR transmitter so you could use it with your other home electronics but it doesn't. I mainly took a star off because of the stupid thing where some engineer at Sony thought it would be great for any button on the remote to turn on your system, but it isn't great. So if you accidently press any button, your system is going to turn on. I really don't get why they couldn't get the PS button to be the only on switch. As stated in other reviews it would also be nice if it had an off switch. Kind of like a Wiimote or any other remote you have lying around.

[+] 6.0 Good remote
The remote is pretty much necessary with a couple flaws. This remote should be included with the PS3 or at the very least an IR port should be on the PS3 to allow using a universal remote. This seems a stupid place to cost cut. I also really hate that there is no power button to turn off the PS3 remote. Yes, you can navigate the menu and shut down, but that is really poor design. On the same line, the PS3 should power down if not used for some time period, but that is more of a PS3 flaw than a flaw of this remote. Otherwise the buttons are small and hard to read, but the remote is still pretty necessary and useful.

[+] 8.0 Useful
If you plan to watch DVDs with your PS3, this remote comes in handy. As others have noted, it does not have a power on/off button and the buttons are difficult to see in low light conditions so I cannot give it 5 stars. However it is much better than using the dualshock controller for viewing DVDs which requires a few steps of button pushing just to pause, rewind or do other functions. It is a useful remote and well worth the $[...].

[+] 10.0 Great addition to PS3
This remote sealed my deal as purchasing the ps3 for blu ray capability. It is multifunctional (as remote and controler) and connects via bluetooth quickly and easily. It would have been nice to include it with the package, but the price was negligable in the big picture, compared with the controlers and the initial PS3 price. Pick it up, you will value it if you are a movie watcher!!!

[+] 6.0 You need something to make it a better Blu-Ray movie player
One of the main reasons we got the PS3 was to play Blu-Ray movie disks. While it is possible to run it from one of the wireless game controllers, asking everyone who walks in the house to learn what the buttons mean for playing DVD's is too much. This remote at least provides familiar symbols for play/pause etc. The only disadvantage so far is that it is the only RF (Bluetooth) device in my entertainment center, so it won't work with my Logitech Universal IR remote. (Not really the controller's fault, it's just the way the PS3 is designed.) Maybe I should have considered one of the IR/PS3 adapters?

[+] 10.0 Full-function Bluetooth Remote for your PS3 - Great Solution
If you are looking for a quality remote control for your PS3 this is a great solution for under $20. This Bluetooth remote works with your PS3's console to provide full functionality of the blu-ray disc player from across your TV room. Any function you can think of including on/off of your PS3 is possible, across the room with this solution.

I highly recommend this remote.

[+] 8.0 Nice!
Much better than using a controller. The only "fault" that bugs me is the "stop" button location. 3 or 4 times now i have inadvertently accidentally stopped the DVD/Bluray, meaning to "un-pause". Bluetooth is great!

Sure, backlit buttons would be nice, as would a real on/off button, but the subtitle and audio buttons are worth the hassles, and it was only $20. Happy camper here.

[+] 6.0 Way more complicated then it had to be
I'd bought my PS3 about four or five months ago. I have a pretty nice HDTV and really wanted a Blu-Ray player to compliment it. It also didn't hurt that I had a bunch of PS2 games I still wanted to play.

After everything was all set up and I started watching a couple of movies, it became apparent extremely quickly that I was going to need a remote for the Blu-Ray features. Using the controller was just overly complex to make it a real option.

When I finally grabbed a remote, there were a few things I noticed immediately. Namely, the simple fact that it was a Bluetooth device meant that there was no chance that I was going to be able to use this with any of my other devices like my TV or my surround-sound receiver. Some people don't really care, but I hate having a thousand remotes lying around. I'd rather just have one and forget about it.

Considering that the PS3 is the only device that the remote is able to control, I fail to see why it's covered with buttons. Outside the obvious 'Play/ Pause/ Stop' buttons, I don't understand the decision to make this look so much more complex then it has to be. I would have tried to make the button layout as simple as possible. If it's not going to be able to be used for another device, it (at least) could be easy to use. I would say that two-thirds of the remote's face, you'll never use.

Another reviewer mentioned it, but it bears repeating. If you touch any button on the device, it'll automatically cue-up your system. The PS3 is a wonderful piece of equiptment and I like it a lot, but man that sucker kicks out a TON of heat. Having said that, I do try to make a deliberate effort not to keep it on longer then I have to. When I'm sitting and watching TV, however, I tend to have both my remotes next to me. I can't even tell you the number of times I've accidentally leaned a little too much to one side and booted-up the system. This is complicated by the fact that there's not just a 'power' button anywhere. I actually have to toss my receiver over to the PS3 device and manually shut the system off. It sounds like a small deal, but it's REALLY annoying after you do it a few times.

I'm sure this was mentioned several times before, but I sincerely wish that the device was back-lit. I, like many others, usually watch TV in low-light. Between the (unnecessarily) complex button configuration and the simple fact that you can't read the thing, it makes simply watching a movie more of a chore then it needs to be.

Not an outright "bad" piece and certainly a better option then the controller. It's also better then any of the third-party devices that I was able to find. All that having been said, however, I'd still say that Sony's remote wasn't very well thought out either. There's a lot of issues that the smallest amount of consideration should have been able to change.

[+] 6.0 Solid remote for viewing videos with some minor annoyances
The remote works as described. Yes, it has far too many buttons than I think it needs to have but it does the job. I like that since it's Bluetooth you really don't have to point it at the PS3. The only thing I wish is that it had a power button on it since I have kids, if I forget and leave it out, an accidentally button press turns on the PS3.

[+] 10.0 Another Great Sony Product
Excellent remote for the DVD/BD function for PS3. Sony has produced yet another well designed device, and the Bluetooth connection is far better than typical infared. If you watch many Blu-ray or DVD titles, you need this remote to save the hassle of memorizing the buttons on the Sixaxis. One thing to watch out for though: touch any button on the remote and the PS3 turns on, not the best feature with little kids (we hide the remote so they can't bump the buttons).

[+] 8.0 PS3 Remote Control Review
With the PS3's main function as a game console, you wouldn't think of it needing a remote control. And you would be right if you thought that. And as a Blu-ray player, the remote control would come in handy, not that the game controller wouldn't work, it would just take a couple more steps to navigate through a DVD/Bluray disc like you'd expect a DVD Player or Blu-ray player to. If you can bear the extra steps, the game controller would suffice. But if you'd like to cut to the chase, like me, this remote is what you'll need.

[+] 8.0 Great remote for the PS3 system...
This is a very good remote. Way better than the old PS2 remote, in my opinion. I like that it's bluetooth because it uses low power consumption and the batteries last a while, but I guess my only complaint, which isn't really a complaint against this remote is that few aftermarket remotes support bluetooth yet. I have a Logitech Harmony Advanced Remote which works awesome with all of my A/V equipment, except for my PS3. Hopefully the bluetooth will catch on and more remotes will become compatible. It really would be nice to just have one remote (like the Logitech). All in all, this is a pretty nice remote!!!

This is remote is indispensible as the PS3 does not come with one. This is good to have if you're using the ps3 as a dvd player. Having the remote is more familiar than having to use the joystick to pick dvd menu items and such. This was a good buy.

Good controller; almost a must if you have a PS3. Control is by bluetooth, not infared, so it is kind of odd and fun to not have to point it towards the TV or PS3. Sony layout is not real intuitive; need to learn it; for example, "X" is the select.

Exactly what I was hoping for when I bought this remote. Works perfectly and the buttons are laid out very well. I would recommend it to everyone doing any blu-ray watching on their ps3.

[+] 8.0 Indispensible if you watch blu-rays
Very nice remote, works well. Wish that it could power off the Playstation 3. It seems crazy that it doesn't do this. Otherwise happy with it.

[+] 8.0 Better Experience for Movie Lovers
Movie Lovers like me can really appreciate this remote for the PlayStation 3. It makes using the PS3 as a BluRay capable home theater video device easy and more intuitive. Especially, if the PS3 is in a setting with non tech savvy individuals (aka your significant other or the rest of your family).

Highly recommended purchase.

[+] 10.0 Great Remote
This is a very handy option for the PlayStation. If you are going to watch movies this is a must. Once I paired it with the PlayStation it has worked great ever since.

My favorit feature is the dispaly button, it lets you know how long the movie is and how far you are currently in to the movie as well as chapter, resolution etc.

With this remote using bluetooth you don't have to point it at the PlayStation for it to work, you can almost point it in any direction and the thing still works.

[+] 2.0 BLUETOOTH Might Be a Pain For You
As a grown-up gamer and audio/visual enthusiast I was pleased to see that I could kill two birds with one stone and buy a new gaming system and BluRay player all in one. In one sense, the ability to combine things ended there though because this remote, and its PS3 mate, operate via BlueTooth technology. This sounds appealing because it can go through walls and all that (I don't often watch movies from behind walls) or at least you dont have to point the thing at the PS3 and you can hide the PS3 in a cabinet. But you cannot (unless you want to be Tech McGyver) combine this remote into a Universal remote because the PS3 cannot accept non-BlueTooth input. Most Universal Remotes operate on IR (Infrared), some feature RF (Radio Frequency) none that I know of are compatible with BT (BlueTooth). So you better like this remote if you intend to use the PS3 as your BluRay player, because youll be seeing alot of it.
