[+] 8.0 Targus 15.4 CVR600, not as pictured
Targus CVR600.. NOT AS PICTURED.. Pictured is the original Targus CVR600, however, this backpack model has been revised. That being said..
Heavy mesh on the outer pockets, rugged covering for those times u sit ur bag in the damp grass or whatever. My original CVR600 lasted over 2 yrs with heavy wear (books, laptop, 10 lbs of handtools). So thumbs on on the build quality and materials. Thumbs down on a less than innovative strap padding/design. These will wear out quickly.
As mentioned, Targus re-designed this bag. If I'm not able to upload the pics, csnoffice has the updated pics on this model.
New design only has 1 outer-side zipped pocket. They removed the other zipped pocket for a bigger open mesh pocket. ALL of the interior pocket layouts have been changed, much to my disappointment.

Targus CVR217 Neoprene Slip Case for 17"" Notebooks (Black/Blue)"

Bag had cheap feel and looked like the clips on the shoulder strap could break easily. I returned it. Be careful to make sure that the product review you are reading is for the bag you are looking at. I made my purchase based on a review for a different bag even though it was on the page for the CVR217.

[+] 10.0 Perfect for its purpose
I got tired of carrying my computer in one of those over the shoulder cases. Not very good for the back when you need to carry school books too. This backpack is perfect for carrying school books and a 15.4" computer. Only issue is the weight, but thats more the computers fault than the backpacks. I now carry around an Asus eeePC, and I can barely feel its there. Even though its a very small computer, it is very well secured in the computer compartment.

[+] 10.0 So fast and easy!
LIKE:

I own a 17" HP9000t laptop "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (which I really dislike, but this review is about the case so I'll stop here). It fits the Targus CVR217 Neoprene Slip Case, that I bought for $[...], perfectly with a bit of room to spare. I am able to take my cordless mouse and receiver, power cord, and extra battery.

The case has just enough padding to protect the laptop easily from low and probably medium level bumps, but not for major drops such as off your shoulder onto a cement surface.

Normally for travel I use a Mobile Edge Paris regular (not slimline) backpack. It's too large to put on your lap in an airplane and too large to put on the floor when traveling coach on most airlines. Amazon link to view Paris backpack: http://www.amazon.com/MOBILE-EDGE-MEBPW1-Paris-Backpack/dp/B000B54H6C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1255804426&sr=8-1

So, I bought the Targus bag which is perfect for travel and to toss the laptop into and go quickly for everyday use. I've found myself even using the Targus on road trips when I also take the larger Paris bag to hold computer accessories in the inside open styled pocket such as game keypad, large headphones with mic, extra cords, and the like. The bag does bulge from the cords and mouse, but doesn't look unsightly. I love this bag!

A prior reviewer mentioned that the shoulder strap wasn't robust enough. I haven't found that to be the case and I have long hair to constantly mess with getting it out of shoulder straps. The shoulder strap feels solid to me, sits snugly on my shoulder, and hasn't slipped off once.

DISLIKE:

My only complaint is that I wish the outside compartment had a zipper instead of a Velcro tab in the center to help secure items in the pocket.

[+] 10.0 Targus CVR217 Laptop bag
My son wanted his 17 inch laptop carrying case before he moved to UC Davis for his junior quarter. He previously bought his 15 inch laptop case from Amazon. I trusted his judgement in reviewing the Targus CVR217 laptop bag before making decision to purchase.

The bag was nice and both he and I liked it. It is light and fits very well on his HP laptop. No bells and whistles and that is what I liked. Price was very attractive.

I recommend this bag to those who want a well made, inexpensive and a good bag for their 17 inch laptop.

[+] 8.0 Great case; very tight fit for 15" laptops
I love this case overall; it is of excellent quality and the price of around twenty-five bucks is a steal. If you have a laptop with a 15" screen, it is a very tight fit. I have a Dell Latitude D830; the total width of this laptop when closed is exactly 14 3/16" - it just barely fits in the padded compartment inside this Targus case, but it does fit - the tiny bit of extra effort needed to get it in this tight-fittin pocket is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 starts.

If you ride a motorcycle and need a good laptop bag you can sling over your back whie riding, this is the one!

[+] 10.0 For the money you pay, this is an excellent bargain
Pros.
1. For the money you pay, this is an excellent bargain.
2. Perfect fabrication quality.
3. Sectioning, straps, padding, pockets placement are well designed.
4. Is lightweight and spacious.
5. This backpack fits inside a mid-size backpack.

Nice pockets:
1. Two letter-size pockets (without rigid support) for documents inside the main section.
2. Mesh pocket inside the middle section.
3. Mesh sidepocket for a bottle.

Imperfect pockets:
1. The size of the laptop sleeve (15"x1.75"x10.5") and the length of the strap are too big for a 15-inch laptop, so that the laptop is not fixed firmly. The only solution is to cut down the strap and put some 15-inch cushion into the pocket.
2. Closable sidepocket ("mobile phone sleeve") is nice for power cord but is too small for power adapter (the best place for these items).
3. "MP3 player sleeve" is too wide and too shallow for a mouse (the best place for a mouse).

What is absent:
1. No "card" pocket inside the small section.
2. No CD pocket, though you can use letter-size pockets.

[+] 8.0 Excellent backpack for the price!
Targus has always been renowned for the excellent (and pricey) laptop bags they make. Once I had a laptop or was given one by the company in which I was working, the first thought was always "I had to get a Targus bag". The problem for me has always been that Targus bags are expensive (justifiably probably), so when I realized that at my new job I had to carry my laptop around, I started to look at backpacks, that in my job as a teacher in more than one college, are much more practical than shoulder bags, at least for me. When I started to look at backpacks, the ones that could meet my needs where pretty expensive until I found the Targus. I was surprised by the price, so I decided to give it a shot. It is a really nice backpack; big and comfortable. It has nice shoulder straps and plenty of room. The internal pocket for the computer accepts a 15.4" like mine with no problems and is well cushioned. So far, it has performed well with no signs of rips or stretched stitches. I miss maybe one more external pocket and the one on the side larger and longer than it actually is. Very good price for the features and overall quality. Way to go Targus! Make more models in the same price range.

[+] 10.0 Compare - this matches up or better
For 2 weeks I searched all over town for a bag for my 17" laptop. No retail store had them [...] ! So I checked good ole Amazon, and here could be found the full line of Targus cases. Now, I don't go out very often with my computer since I'm not willing to pay extra to get on the internet outside of home (even at Starbucks), but when I do this case is perfect for my use, and I was so surprised at the price! That made it easy to purchase, and even at standard shipping, I ordered it on Friday night and I got the case Monday morning!

If you are a businessman who takes your computer to the airport often I would recommend something a little more durable with a hard case. And prepare to spend [...] since your computer needs bump-proof protection.

But for the occasional traveler or one who just wants to protect it in the car, this is the one for you. You will not find it in the stores, since 17" is not the popular size, but Amazon got um!

[+] 8.0 I did not like it
It is obvious that I did not know what I bought ... I wanted a case for my notebook but a hard one ... I knew later that "slip case" is the soft one ... so it is not a bad product, it is just that I was looking for something else ...

[+] 4.0 Targus Groove notebook backpack is not durable
The Targus CVR600 15.4 Groove Notebook Backpack was the corporate issue laptop bag at a large company i worked for. The IT department had a huge pile of broken backpacks of this model, mostly with the same problem--fraying and ripping where the straps attach to the top of the bag. Mine had the same problem after about two years of daily commuting.

The bag can hold a lot but has inadequate support, concentrating weight across the shoulders instead across the back. The straps are poorly padded and there's not much room for airflow for your back.

Padding for the computer is minimal, just half-centimeter thick padding. If you load up the bag, your laptop will get crushed.

[+] 2.0 Flimsy Targus Notebook Bag for 17 inch Notebook
I purchased this product after reviewing the positive reviews of others and wish I had not. The case is much too flimsy to prevent damage to the PC and there is virtually no storage space for any accessories. Especially the power supply that bulges on the outside. I would definitely not purchase this product again.

[+] 6.0 Targus CVR217 Review
The CVR217 Neoprene slip case that I ordered along with a Toshiba laptop is very well constructed and I have no complaints with that and it has a pleasing appearance. I would like it to have better accommodations to hold the power supply and a mouse--perhaps separate pockets. Putting the laptop and the peripherals into the slip case results in unsightly bulges.
Reviewer [A2U61NFE1NG54N] | Date [June 11, 2009]
[+] 8.0 Very lightweight, easily fits my 16" laptop
The neoprene bag is extremely lightweight, and provides ample room for my 16" widescreen laptop and a paper notebook (along with the power brick and mouse in the side pocket). The only two issues I have are that the strap connectors are not metal (they are plastic), and that there really is little protection for the laptop screen (no hard panel in there). I cut a piece of thin plywood and placed it in the bag for this purpose, and it works out fine. Would be nicer to have something already built in.

[+] 10.0 Super Backpack!
Purchased as a carryall for my computer and other electronics when travelling by plane. The quality of the nylon material is excellent. The zippers glide easily along the track using large nylon zipper pulls. The zippered openings are wide and I love the amount of pockets and compartments that this backpack houses. There are zippered pockets and separate compartments for your laptop, cords & adapters, mouse, hard drive, virtually everything you need to provide you with a mini office when on the road. There is even room enough for an extra change of clothes and a small toiletry kit. The bag easily opens up wide for inspections at the airport and so roomy that everything goes back in as easily as it came out. The padding in the bag that surrounds your laptop is sturdy and thick and provides you with a sense of security that your laptop is adequately protected. The straps are thickly padded for comfort and the bag is waterproofed to keep your computer safe from rain or spills.

[+] 10.0 Fits a Dell Studio 17 !!!!
WOW - I had my doubts about ordering this case!

I have a Dell Studio 17 widescreen with the 9 cell battery.
This case fits perfectly and I still have room for my charger, some papers and some other little things!

I've looked and looked for reviews that mentioned a Studio 17 and could not find one. The only thing that I'm a bit disappointed in is that the shoulder strap and the rings it hooks to are plastic. At least it has carrying handles if the plastic breaks. But other than that it's wonderful!
The price is an extra plus! I looked at a SwissGear 17 inch slip cover at a retail store while out of town it was nice (not a big as this one - it didn't have that much extra room) and it was $45! They've got to be kidding! It's hard to find an extra large slip cover but this was highway robbery!

It's a shame that this product wasn't in any of the local retail stores like Staples, Best Buy or even Wal-Mart! But then again - Amazon usually has them all beat on their prices regardless of the item anyway!!

[+] 10.0 Great Qualitiy for a Great Price
I'm not a "road warrior". That is, I have a 17" laptop I rarely take out of the house. But, sometimes I'll pack up and head to Panera and work from there having lunch, etc. For this type of travel, I wanted something simple to protect my machine. Originally, I purchased a neoprene slip case, but it had no strap. I quickly returned it after one trip of lugging my "brick" a few blocks to a friends house and set looking for something similar but with a strap.

I found this to be the PERFECT solution for me! It is NOT a big heavy bag with lots of compartments and bells and whistles. It's not much larger than my original slip case but it has a sturdy strap and my machine fits well and carries nicely. And it is less expensive than the slip case I originally purchased.

For me, when I take my machine, I don't take my AC power adapter (when my battery dies it's time to stop driking coffee and go home). I pack only my mouse in the side pocket. It would be bulky and buldgy if I put in the ac adpater, but would be ok if I needed and for the type of travel I explained.

I'm very please with this product - It fits my needs very well. If you are a "road warrior" and need to pack a lot of stuff (documents, books, gadgets and accessories, etc.) for your plane trip, this may not be the case for you. But, for light local travel, this is probably what you are looking for.

[+] 8.0 just what i wanted
This is the case just what I wanted in the reasonable price. My new 17 inches widescreen Toshiba laptop fits in well. As people have mentioned, this is not water-proof. The material made for this case is a little be flexible and may strech a little bit when I hold the handles. Thus, there is a little bit safety concern to me. Overall, I like this product.

[+] 8.0 Targus Notebook Backpack, fits 15.3" laptop
It really does fit a 15.3" laptop and has a Velcro strip to hold it in place; but as one of the other reviews mentioned, it is not waterproof. So if you're expecting to use this where it rains a lot, the pack is probably not for you. It's not terribly good at carrying things other than a laptop and its accessories. You might be able to fit a day's clothing into the same zippered area that keeps the laptop; or be able to lug around 1-2 textbooks in addition to the laptop. Ok, so why the 4-stars? I use it for work, it works as expected, the manufacturer shipped it out in a timely manner, and it's free from defects.
